mutuals you’re thankful for in 2022?
(I even did it on anon for you!!!)
thank you DEAR ANONYMOUS FRIEND whose identity i totally do not know lmao because its not like i asked you to send this to me whattt that would be embarrassing
here we go (in no particular order, this is the way it shows up in my following list)
@fonkeloog : thanks for going along with my nonsense and being open minded and supportive about everything i do even if it's not your thing. love seeing you in my notifications, always <3 your poems and photography are everything, i sincerely wish you all the success with that in 2023. here's to another wonderful year of football and memri memes and kilt smut and complete discord chaos.
@heartofspells : holliiiiiii where do i even begin. meeting you this year has been a fandom changing experience, truly. i love everything you create even if sometimes it makes me cry and kick things. i hope things get less hectic for you this year so you can rain on us with more angst and poetic porn. thank you for letting me rant and brainstorm ideas and you're always welcome to dump your thoughts on me whenever <3 i never don't enjoy hearing those. hope we get to spit even more this year together.
@tracingpatternswrites : mallllll my LOVE. i think you're my fandom soulmate. everything you write makes me lose my mind and i care about all your pieces as if they're my own. thank you for being the push and support i needed to explore new things and pairings this year (here's to more threesomes and incest in the upcoming year ahaha). ALSO. we should. totally co-write something this year. something horrific and ground shattering. (once i'm done with all my oneshots). the internet would never recover.
@soloorganaas : bestieeee. what do i even say? you're literally like the only one of two and a half people in total on this website (one of them being me lol) whom i trust blindly and completely with our boys and with wolfstar in particular. it either takes us 13 business days to get back to each other or we can talk for 3 hours straight non-stop. we should do more things like hanukka wolfstar this year. push our (correct) agendas in this fandom. co-writing something with you one day would be the dream. maybe sometime this year?
@sweetpeasandlilies : bruh with the amount of stuff you've been through this past year i'm surprised you're still on tumblr akjdgh so HUGE respect for that seriously. i'm still blocked by like 27 people because of you lmao but good riddance i guess. ain't nobody gonna stop us. i live for your writing and for your shitposts. honestly. its everything.
@padfootastic : dude what can i say?? a breathe of fresh fucking air is what you are on this hellsite. and i know you're busy as hell these days but seeing you on here and your ideas and your writing (and your tagsss bruh your tags i read all of those just so yknow) is one of the things keeping me from losing my mind in here. if we had fandom elections i would vote you in as the authority on everything james potter and sirius black. i trust no one but you.
@mxlfoydraco : serra <3333 i live for your tags. you put drarry and amazing (actually diverse) fanart and Correct Opinions on our dashes and i love you for that. this place would not have been the same without you. fandom is alive and flourishing thanks to people like you who comment and give reccs and keep older fics and fanarts alive (and ship jegulus without disrespecting Sirius the MVP Black) and i couldn't be more grateful. please keep blessing us with your presence and the legendary Queue.
@leogichidaa : your writing is honestly ground breaking, and the limitless creativity of your genius ideas never fails to amaze me. if i had to hire a team of writers for a canon marauders story, you would be the first on that list - we need more people who do reg and the others justice with their writing. i can't wait to see what else you will bless us with this upcoming 2023 <33
@artemisia-black : it's hard being a person with Correct Opinions(tm) on a site like tumblr in a fandom like the marauders but you are doing AMAZING. please never stop writing what you write and talking about the Blacks, people like you and your metas are the backbone of this fandom. wish i could make everyone sit down and read those before they touch our precious characters.
@sequinhaze : yazz! very excited and honoured to be calling you a mutual tbh, after i've been stalking your blog and writing forever now lol. you are Wrong about prongsfoot but i forgive you for that because you're Right about literally everything else and that's so much more important to me. i selfishly hope that you never stop writing for this fandom because you offer such a refreshing take on most characters and your characterisation is always on point. ily. wishing you peace and happiness this upcoming year (and wishing myself loads of unbreakable heaven porn w feelings).
@broomsticks : jackieeee you're one of the rare people in this fandom who is completely open minded to new ideas and dynamics, and is the definition of a multi-shipper. i don't think i know one single other person on this hellsite who likes both remadora and wolfstar and blackcest and peter and snape and isn't afraid to talk about it. alsoo! your tagging system. duude. i wish my blog looked like that wtf.
@elvendorx : (i forgot what your main blog is sorryyy) - we didn't really get a chance to interact much yet but i just wanted to let you know that your metas on the mwpp in general and james and sirius in particular are absolutely golden and i appreciate them so much. wish i could make it a legal requirement to fully read and sign those before anybody so much as thinks of writing about j&s. looking forward to more of you in 2023.
@roalinda : thank you for putting prongsfoot on my dash <33 we desperately lack content for them and even the blogs that do post about them are usually still centric around a different ship. we need more people like you honestly. and i looove your additions in the tags, always read those.
@squintclover : rorryyyyy <33 your microfics and your writing are everything. i love it. always appreciate seeing you on my dash. i hope we get more chances to interact this upcoming year and i can't wait to find out what you've got in store for us.
@benjamin-ovich : i just want to thank you for writing what is one of the most amazing and heart breaking prongsfoot masterpieces i've ever read. i still need to leave a proper comment on that which is not just me screaming incoherently but just know that i've gone back several times to reread some parts. especially the first chapter and the memories. ((the scene where sirius tries to roughly "fuck lily out of him" lives in my head rent free. literally. one of the hottest prongsfoot scenes in existence wtf)).

Got some of the photography from yesterday edited. Absolutely love the pictures of the new growth from the Mugwort and the Absinthe Wormwood (look at all the little hairs! They're so fuzzy !!!). Not too sure I'm happy with the photos of the Bridal Wreath Spirea this year, though. Ah well!

On Finding Oneself
Tumblr media
It seems to me that finding oneself usually requires some sort of journey. I wish more than anything that I could push through the coats of an overstuffed wardrobe and step into Narnia. Fall through the looking glass and embark on a mad adventure.
Or maybe find a wrinkle in time, a way to return and repair my past mistakes; to pass hard earned wisdom on to my younger self. But in truth I'm in my mid thirties and on a budget. So here I am with only a lantern searching in this unlit hour.
Sipping my Blanchard's Dark As Dark blend with the Gallow Dance playing quietly in the background, I sit with the acknowledgment that I will not step through some magic portal. Probably won't even take a trip to Norway to lay in the crisp snow beneath the Aurora Borealis, which would also more than suffice.
I google "how to find yourself" and the results are frankly disappointing. I'm too jaded for positive thinking, too cynical for manifestation, and too cranky for affirmations. I'm reminded of the meditation penguin from Fight Club. *Slide!*
While any sort of grand adventure may be off the table for now, recreating a similar environment to a time in which I was enamored with the world may be a possible step in the right direction. This tiny hope, is in part responsible for my return to Tumblr and to writing. To me they are both relics of 2008, and symbolic of better days.
So I start this low budget quest to rediscover myself by creating a simple list of things I was once inspired by and enjoyed.

[Disclaimer: this is a bunch of art history facts and tidbits masquerading as Midnight Pals fanfiction. I am so bored. Midnight Pals is by @bitterkarella , it's very good and you should read/listen. hello good day and I am so sorry]
Nièpce: Uhm. Bonjour. I would like to introduce you you all this new thing I made called a heliograph?
Caravaggio: who the fuck invited the chemist.
Hopper (looking at the heliograph): I like it. It reflects the tristesse and pointlessness of the world.
Genteleschi (talking over Hopper,to Caravaggio): who the fuck invited you.
Stieglitz: I like it and I'll argue your case but you must NEVER bring up the word "Kodak"
(A cartoonish brawl breaks out in the background)
Nièpce: What's a Kodak?
(scene)
Turner: I would like to introduce to you my painting Snow Storm – Steam-Boat off a Harbour's Mouth Making Signals in Shallow Water, and going by the Lead. The Author was in this Storm on the Night the "Ariel" left Harwich
(Everybody looks at the painting)
Hopper: but what's the painting called.
Turner (sarcastically): it was called many things by the critics.
Turner:...
Turner: you can call it snowstorm.
(scene)
Duchamp: I would like to introduce you to my painting "Nude descending a staircase"....
Gauguin (startling out of deep sleep): Tits??
Gauguin (squinting at the painting): .....
Gauguin: go fuck yourself Marcel.
Genteleschi (nursing a stab wound from the earlier fight) That's what you should do, then you'd stop making women sick.
(murmurs of agreement)
(scene)
Dramatis personae:
Nicephore Nièpce, an early pioneer of photography (his heliograph is today regarded the first photograph ever)
Alfred Stieglitz: American photographer, part of the pictorialist movement that heavily pushed the "photography is a form of art too damn it" angle after the Eastman Kodak company released the first commercially viable photo camera and photography went from a totally obscure nerd hobby that only a few people could even pull off to something that everyone could easily do.
Caravaggio: Renaissance painter. Most of the information that exists on him are court records of his stab-happy crime spree and that he once sued a guy for painting in his style which is a 21st century dick move. He got thrown out of two different cities for the crime of stabbing a guy fatally in the balls. This is really all you need to know about Caravaggio.
Artemisia Genteleschi, renaissance WOMAN and absolute badass. There were woman artists back then but not many and she could already paint at a professional level at age fifteen or sixteen! She got admitted to the academy of arts!! She sold her paintings internationally! She was really really good.
Edward Hopper, member of the school of so called "American realism" and probably clinically depressed according to my classmate who did the presentation on him. If it looks sorta realistic and exudes a sense of isolation and loneliness even if there is multiple people in the painting, it's probably one of his. (He was part of last year's art history final and I thank whoever looks kindly on highschoolers that I was able to retain some information from that presentation as well as.my classmate for picking him off the list)
William James Mallord Turner
British landscape painter. Regarded as Britain's Favorite painter (these days)
He was supposed to be the subject of my presentation but I begged my teacher to let me do Marcel Duchamp instead. I have since seen the errors of my way.(more on that later) Snowstorm is currently on loan to the Lenbachhaus, an art museum in Munich Germany, and I went to the exhibition and stood right in front of it. It's really something.
The things the critics said about Snowstorm were "soapsuds and whitewash" and "all of the contents of his (Turner's) pantry"
Now Turner had a certain "fuck off" attitude to artistic people pleasing but according to a contemporary source called John Ruskin (I think) he read that scathing review and went "soapsuds and whitewash! Soapsuds and whitewash! I wonder what they think the sea's like!? I wish they'd been in it!" which I think is hilarious.
And finally Marcel Duchamp.
What the fuck do I say about him? I have done the presentation. I got a 2 (that's pretty good!) And I still struggle to understand what the guy was even doing. His most well known contribution to art is an upside down toilet. Or well...a photo of that that was photographed by Stieglitz.
He was french I guess that's what I can say about him. I was like "oh he did Object art. I do object art. I'll like what he made" but it turns out that "object art" is a really vague catch-all term. :) who could've guessed. I like Tom Every more (look up the Evertron. It's the world's largest scrap metal sculpture and it is freaking phenomenal. THAT'S what I wanna do. Not Marcel Duchamp. I wanna make whimsical shit like he did or weird shit like Luise Bourgeois did. They're my art heroes. Not Marcel Duchamp. just wanted to make Gauguin look bad cause he was a thoroughly unpleasant person who I wouldn't touch with a six meter pole )

Le taux de pollinisation de la ronce est plus élevé la nuit que le jour, grâce exclusivement à la grande efficacité des papillons de nuit
See on Scoop.it - EntomoNews

Concept Brainstorm
Tumblr media
Through mind mapping and discussing with my group I formed a rough concept which was a photographic series on classism in the Baroque art style. Next I wanted to familiarise myself with Baroque, so I began my research there.
Into to Baroque
Baroque is an art and architecture movement which dominated more than two centuries in Europe, Latin America, and beyond. The style, taking place between the 16th to 18th centuries, following the Renaissance, grew out of Catholic reformation. Baroque inspiration includes seeking to engage the human passion; “from the mystical and ecstatic to the violent and erotic.” (Bailey, 2012). The recurring features of the style involve grandeur and a return to realism after the idealistic images from the Renaissance. Here are some of the key differences between Baroque and Renaissance in art and diagrams for examples.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Brainstorming Continuation - key words
My research interests include the divide between classes and covert forms of classism. I want to use documentary photography as a way to investigate this concept. This series may focus on domestic and family themes and examine the home and things one considers valuables. Through exploring one’s belongings you gain a level of intimacy and an understanding of their experiences. In order to convey the grandeur of this story, I want to use the baroque style of art.
Artist Models I started my artist model research on Magnum Photography by searching for documentary still life images. This week I focused on drawing links between these images and Baroque art to help me understand it better and to show me how I can incorporate it into my own work. Here are some artists that I found.
Max Pinckers I found two series by magnum photographer Max Pinckers which I found interesting. Firstly, Will They Sing Like Raindrops or Leave me Thirsty, depicts aspects of love and marriage from Pinckers four month trip to India. I chose two images from the series that I felt resonated with either my concept or Baroque.
Tumblr media
The next series from Pinckers that spoke to me, titled Lotus, was a collaboration with the photographer Quentin De Bruyn. The team intended to document the world of transsexuals in Thailand. In this series the photographer is meant as a “fly on the wall,” capturing aspects of the gender crisis that is faced by the subjects.
Tumblr media
Bieke Depoorter From photographer Bieke Depoorter I resinated with a series from her works which aligns with my theme: Bieke Depoorter’s journey across Russia for her project ‘Ou Menya.’ She’s captures intimate images of strangers’ homes as she traveled through forgotten villages asking locals for a place to sleep, changing each night. “For three periods of one month, I have let the Trans-Siberian train guide me alongside forgotten villages, from living roomto living room. Some Russian words, scribbled on a little piece of paper, allowed me to be welcomed and absorbed in the warm chaos of a family. Accidental encounters led me to the places where I could sleep. The living room, the epicenter of their life, establishes an intimate contact between the Russian inhabitants. For a brief moment, I was part of this. Their couch became my bed for one night.”

Mugwort
Beifuß
Artemisia vulgaris
Known as the mother of herbs, it was used against various women's illnesses as well as digestive problems.
In magic, it was used to help with long journeys and childbirth. It is also used in the Old English Nine Herbs Charm, where it is called "yldost wyrta" (oldest herb). Mugwort has a strong association with the solstices. Burning mugwort at summer solstice is supposed to rid you of enchantments or curses. Burning it as incense in the Rauhnächte (twelve nights of Christmas, starting winter solstice) is supposed to protect the house from evil. Wearing a belt of mugwort that was braided on summer solstice will protect from witchcraft. In folklore it is said that on summer solstice you can find a magic stone (Thorellenstein=Thor's stone/ Narrenkohle=fool's coal) under the roots of mugwort, which probably refers to the black older parts of the root itself. These are supposed to protect the house from being hit by lightning.
