Here's the official bio for Queen Genevieve!! I've been watching Quest for Camelot bc this year is the 25th anniversary and it's a guilty pleasure op mine even tho it has a lot of flaws So I had to make an OC XD

Quest for Camelot is owned by Warner Brothers. I only own Genevieve. Made in Doll Divine Princess Maker ver. 1.0. & Barbie movie dress maker

Appearance: Genevieve is a beautiful woman with long, dark and curly and dark brown eyes. She also has brown skin. Her regal attire consists of a light yellow dress with red shoulder pads, outer skirt, and gold belt. She wears a simple silver and tiara with a blue gem in the center.

Personality: Genevieve is a wise and goodhearted woman who devotes her time to overseeing the welfare of her kingdom. Like Kayley, she also dreamed of becoming a knight but were forced to set those dreams aside. While she sometimes regrets missing that opportunity, she doesn't regret choosing to be Queen. Genevieve encorages Kayley to pursue her dreams but warns her that the journey towards knighthood is not an easy one. It's implied that she and Lady Juliana were childhood friends.

Abitlities: Genevieve is adaptable, as when she spends her time in the enchanted forest. She also demonstrates her political prowess as when she tries to diffuse Ruber's attempts at invading the sea village, and later convincing the dragon brothers to help her.

The only magical ability Genevieve possesses is a mirror given to her by Merlin. This mirror can reveal a person's "true self", teleportation and some defense against dark magic. While it can deflect physical spells too much force leads to cracks, reducing the effective power of the mirror.

If Quest for Camelot was about King Arthur it makes sense for Guinevere to exist too! So here's my idea of what she could look like. I think Arthur would want a strong, caring person who is just as devoted to the light as he is. But also because I am sick of media that only depicts Guinevere to serve that stupid love triangle; there's so much more to Arthurian legend and Guinevere than the men she sleeps with. It wasn't even part of the original myths! -_-

Anyways I wanted a story where Guinevere gets to be the hero. As for her role in the movie she visits Juliana and Kayley but their party gets attacked by Ruber. The queen and Kayley escapes and together, along with Garrett, Merlin's falcon and the dragon bros, set off to save the kingdom. She also does battle with an old foe, the bitter Lady Lizabet, who wants to get rid of her and take Arthur as a trophy husband.

As far as design goes I gave her a warm color palette to contrast the blue tunic Arthur wears in the film. Plus the "Primary Color Protagonist" trope.

How did the Jetru Eruption of 2020 begin?

Look, we’ve all been asking ourselves the same question: how and why did the Jetru Eruption begin? The “why” is a given--Jetru is great and both characters deserve nice things--but the how is a question that has befuddled this corner of the fandom for *checks watch* two-ish(?) days. Let’s construct a timeline and work backwards.

Today, @nonbinary-crafter-aang posted the following:

“I’m going to construct a series of events as I saw it: I have been lowkey shipping jetru for months but only very recently became jetru on main once I found out that my pal @the-hot-zone also shipped it last week. Zone also says that @listless-brainrot had been jetru on main prior to the Jetru Eruption. I got on tumblr yesterday to post about lok only to find that @spookysukki and @bluberry-spicehead were blogging about Jetru. @zombiejune said that it was me and somebody named Ibaa that started it but I know for a fact it was not me bc the Jetru Eruption had already been going on for some time when I joined (believe me, if it was me responsible I would take FULL CREDIT I would literally never shut up about it in 2079 I would be telling my grandchildren that I started the Jetru Eruption of 2020….but that would be dishonest, bc it wasn’t me). However, Sonny also credited Ibaa with starting the Jetru Eruption, but unfortunately I don’t know who Ibaa is. I want to. I’m sure I follow them and this is actually so embarrassing. But I have been racking my brain and I still don’t know. Per my findings, I conclude that it was Ibaa and first of all I’m so sorry I don’t know who you are second of all you are my HERO can somebody please tag them thank you for your service“

Thus, the sequence of events from these perspectives seem to be the following:

> Arthur independently ships Jetru, unaware of Ibaa. > Arthur finds out that I ship Jetru. > The Eruption begins; Sonny and Ibaa are posting about Jetru.  > Sruthi says Arthur and Ibaa began the Eruption.

Additionally:

> Sonny heard of Jetru from Ibaa.

My findings have confirmed the common statement in both posts: Ibaa started the Eruption. To confirm this, we first need to examine my reconstruction of the events.

Around two weeks ago, I came across @listless-brainrot​ ‘s blog. There, I found some excellent analysis on Jet and Haru and how similar they are. I also found a post tagged Het. Intrigued, I replied to the post, and Mr. Brainrot posted this in response:

[ID: a screenshot of a tumblr post. The post contains a screenshot of a reply to a different post. The reply, from the-hot-zone, reads, “LMAOOO HARU AND HET ARE HET?” Underneath the screenshotted reply, there’s an image of a nervous-looking man in a green shirt. That was my first interaction with Jetru, and it was around 10 days ago. I assumed it was only Mr. Brainrot and me who shipped Jetru. Then, during Arthur’s live-blog of LOK, I saw a post tagged Jetru. Excited, I replied to the post, and they responded with something along the lines of “I thought it was just me!” (I can’t for the life of my find the @ mention. But it happened.)

I thought that was the end of it. Then--yesterday occurred, and I began to see a lot of Jetru on Sonny’s blog. The first post I can find is this one:

[ID: a screenshot of a tumblr post. The original post is from user zombiejune. It reads, “Haru just deserves love.” The original post has been reblogged by user bluberry-spicehead. The addition reads, “--jet, probably” and the tags read “#yep #that’s exactly it #jetru.” It has 61 notes. End ID.]

This was my first clue. Thinking that it was Sruthi who started the Eruption, I headed over to her blog to see when she began posting about Jetru. Lo and behold, I found a post reblogged from Mr. Brainrot. Above that was an ask from Ibaa-- @spoopykyoshi​ : 

[ID: a screenshot of a tumblr post. It is a response to an ask. The ask, sent by user spoopykyoshi, reads, “Aahhhhhh I’ve infected you with harujet propaganda I feel so proud now :crying emoji: :crying emoji:” The response to the ask reads, “Hell yeah you have :relieved emoji:. And you should be. :sparkling_heart emoji.” The tags read “#ibaa tag #i now ship harujet and haruteo.” The post has 4 notes. End ID.]

Thus, Ibaa was already shipping Jetru and brought Sruthi into Jetru. Further confirming my thoughts, two posts above that post was the original “Haru deserves love” post, and then a reblog of Sonny’s addition. This gives me all the information I need. Here’s what happened: 

Ibaa infected Sruthi with Jetru propaganda. This caused Sruthi to reblog Jetru posts. Sonny was also separately informed/infected by the Jetru propaganda from Ibaa, and reblogged Sruthi’s post. This was the match that lit the flame--but Ibaa (and Sruthi) had set up the fuel station. The reason why the Jetru Eruption happened when it did was because of Sonny--you can see this in the many, many asks they got after reblogging that post from Sruthi.

Conclusion? Thank Ibaa.

Almond milk is NASTY. Like, nasty. It just... does not hit.

I’m watching Cursed rn (2 episodes in woo!) and Nimue and Arthur actually aren’t that bad. I prefer ships with more development (like a LOT MORE) but they aren’t awful! I don’t exactly ship them like that, but they aren’t super bad. Still watching from a Nimulot lens because of a few posts that hit me in the chest though 🙈

Not technically an unpopular opinion but speaking of Cursed, NIMUE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE BLACK! If you look up the original illustrations from the book, her skin is colored brown. She has Afrocentric features, at the very least she was supposed to be SOME sort of POC. No hate or shame to Katherine Langford since she probably didn’t know about it, but nobody is talking about this for some odd reason and it’s actually hella important. Just watching the show, for me it would be more impactful and powerful to see a black actress portray Nimue. Not to mention the whole Netflix colorism issue but that’s just a whole nother rant waiting to happen diidjdsm

I don’t know if this counts but I will never watch LOK because of what they did to Katara and Zutara in general. I just can’t get over everything I’ve heard about her being sidelined to just the Avatar’s wife with NO STATUES, as well as everything with Sokka and Suki, not to mention Aang not paying any attention to his non fire bender kids. Just... no. Let me live in my non canon world please and thank you 😂

Jane Eyre (in its original form) is overhyped because of the BLATANT RACISM. I pretended Eliza Bennet was black with relatively no issues but I can’t get past the treatment/description of Rochester’s wife in JE. BIPOC deserve regency era aus and other things (dark academia, mythology, etc) without it being tainted.

Tiktok is overhyped compared to Vine. Speaking of, Addison Rae and Dixie and Charli are also overhyped. You shouldn’t write bipoc characters if you’re not bipoc IF the focus of the fic is centered in racism. PLEASE write bipoc characters as JUST characters, as people, not as stereotypes or means to an end.

More soft Bruce Wayne. Gotham’s Bruce is my favorite because they dug into the vulnerability. Like yeah he was a kid but omggg it hit so much harder when he became Batman because you could tell that he still cared about his actions. Like Batman isn’t about just brutalizing people and beating them up, he as a superhero and as a person is so much more than that.

Not an unpopular opinion technically, just a reminder that Scott McCall was the protagonist of Teen Wolf.

Mal (from Descendants) is HELLA overhyped. Disney villanized two black girls for wanting equality/their life back, and to be honest that says a lot about them.

Bonnie Bennett deserved better. Not exactly unpopular but OH MY GOD! She never got to dress up as much as the other girls, Julie Plec made her the Magical Negro stereotype, and right as she was about to be okay, STEFAN RIPPED HER ONE CONSISTENT L.I.’S HEART OUT IN LITERALLY THE SECOND TO LAST EPISODE. Like are you kidding me? At the VERY LEAST, we should’ve gotten Bonkai, especially with Post Merge Kai in his right mind with emotions. Bamon would have hit so hard though, Klonnie too. Justice for Bonnie Bennett, please.

How They Handle Jealousy - Kingsman

Merlin

Merlin would never acknowledge feelings of jealousy. He considers them unhealthy and a sign that a relationship is lacking trust. He has no problem with you having male friends, having dinner one on one with others, or when you dress up and go out with the girls. Why would he be jealous when he knows you’ll always return to him, that your wants are more important than any person who might decide that flirting with you is a fun idea?

But those are all just words if a particular kind of man approaches you. Merlin’s one major problem is believing he is worthy of your love. In his mind, he is a bit of a stick-in-the-mud, a bit too stoic, a bit too, well, boring. And so when someone he deems a better fit for you comes along, he has a hard time not imagining that you might be happier without him.

And when he is feeling jealous, he closes himself off, guilty for having the emotions at all. He’ll avoid the topic altogether until he has time to process his feelings and do something to remind himself of his value in the relationship. But he will always intervene if someone gets too handsy or makes you uncomfortable. Those moments actually build him back up, proving to himself that he can be the man you need. And when you tell him how much you appreciate him for it, he swells with pride, unable to resist drowning you in kisses.

Harry

Jealousy? What is that? Harry has no sense of the concept, at least not when it comes to your romantic relationship. He trusts you implicitly and isn’t remotely intimidated by anyone else in your life. You chose each other for a reason and he trusts that nothing can come between the two of you so easily. If a person flirts with you, you’ll often come home and tell him the story, you both laughing about it before you cuddle together and sleep.

It isn’t that he doesn’t feel any jealousy, he just doesn’t feel it in regards to your relationship. He feels jealous quite often when things go well in your life and not his. He finds himself feeling resentful of your easy relationship with Arthur, when you get the best missions, and when you get promoted. He is happy for you, but there is a bitterness underneath that he brushes off as playful competition.

When you are particularly successful, he tries his hardest to own the other parts of the relationship to make up for his feelings. He’ll cook you the best meals, give you the best gifts, blow your mind with amazingly passionate sex. If he can’t be the best spy, he sure as hell will be the best boyfriend. In that sense, sometimes it’s nice to have Harry just a little jealous.

Eggsy

“You got a problem, bruv?” is a common phrase from Eggsy when the two of you are out together. Often Eggsy jumps in one stage earlier than you wished he would, interpreting things you might just see as someone getting friendly as someone getting fresh. He’ll fling an arm around your shoulder or your waist, pulling you so you are flush against him, preferably so your face is against his chest, as he growls at whomever is talking to you at the moment. Given his build and confidence, it is a very effective way of warding off any unwanted advances.

After such an encounter, he needs to confirm that you are there and his, kissing you passionately, holding you closely, making love to you deeply. He needs the physical contact to fill the void that the fear of losing you gives him.

But when you are feeling jealous of some woman, he is very receptive. He’ll listen to you intently, apologize for any of his behavior that might have made you feel that way, and reaffirm your importance in his life with so many words of adoration between the most gentle and loving of kisses. He hates to see you doubt his love for you in any way. It is almost more painful than experiencing those feelings himself. And when you find yourselves in those situations in public, when he sees you tensing at the way someone may be talking to him or touching him, he’ll always caress your hip and lean over to whisper sweetly in your ear just how much he loves you.

Tequila

Tequila is confused the first time he feels a tinge of jealousy as a result of your relationship with your best male friend. He’d never felt such a thing before. That being said, he had also never had a serious relationship before you, either.

He wants to be your best friend, and the fact that you might choose to go to someone else with your problems hurts him. Any secret messages you might share leave him curious. He’d never go so far as to sneak, but he definitely asks you often what you are talking about and if he can be helpful instead. It is kind of cute to be honest, but sometimes you just need to talk to someone about him or want to talk to someone who shares an interest you two don’t. When you explain, he understands, but he’ll still silently brood.

The other thing that sets him off is when you have a different partner on the field. He hates when you are assigned to work with someone else, hates when you have inside jokes, when someone else gets to protect you and praise you and support you. He hates the most when you spend days away from him enjoying the company of another. He fights Champ often to get to go with you, even if it doesn’t make sense for the mission. And he will definitely have big talks with whomever is your partner to make sure they know just how precious you are and just how much their ass is on the line if they let anything happen to you. And you know he will be watching you from afar, just to be safe.

Whiskey

Whiskey enjoys making public displays of his relationship with you. Before anyone even has the chance to approach you, he has his hands all over you, arms slung around your shoulder, you face littered with kisses. He publicly uses phrases like, “my girl,” to make it clear that you are spoken for even before a problem arises. He claims he does it because he is so damn proud to have you on his arm, but it is also partially to ward off any undesirables that might try to win your favor.

Whiskey is possessive in every sense of the word. In the bedroom, it can be such a turn on. In the field, it can mean the difference between life and death. But in social settings, it can be such a nuisance. But he is willing to take the criticism, to bite his tongue and allow you the freedom and space you need, though he’ll always have a watchful eye on you, ready to jump in when you give the slightest indication, excited for the opportunity to smother you in love and gloat to any onlooking man that the best catch in the room is willingly and happily his.

Despite his possessiveness however, he is very relaxed about your friendships. He isn’t worried about your texts or your lunch dates. He makes a point of being friends with all your friends and assumes, rightfully so, that if they hadn’t scooped you up before he did, there is no threat there.

UNIT SIX// PROJECT: FILM// REFERENCES

Salut Les Cubains- Agnes Varda (1963)

Salut Les Cubains is a 30 min short documentary film made by Varda during her visit to Cuba in 1963. It explores Cuban society and culture post revolution. The most interesting thing about this film is that is made entirely out of a compilation of still images. They are edited together to create the illusion of movement while still retaining a jerky low-frame rate effect. This effect works extremely well when edited to match the accompanying music- to which the people appear to dance. The jumpy tone of the visuals along with the upbeat music creates a comic, light-hearted tone. 

I thought the idea off using still images as frames for the film was a highly effective and original way to produce tone. However, I don’t think this would be appropriate for my work, as I don’t think it suits the darker tone I am going for. 

Mechanical Principals- Ralph Steiner- 1930 

Mechanical Principals is a short silent film which documents the movements of mechanical parts. We see close up how pistons move up and down or side to side and pendulums sway, but never the larger machines that they are a part of, nor what they are manufacturing. 

I found the focus on single parts of machinery, in silence, forced me to think about their movements in different ways than I normally would. The longer you look, the more mesmerised you become with the rhythmic repetition of the parts, and the more you see the beauty in them- where you would usually ignore or dismiss them. I really enjoyed this technique and think that perhaps zooming in to remove context may be something I’m interested in doing for my film. 

Snow- Geoffrey Jones- 1963 

Snow is a short documentary film made by Geoffrey Jones for British Transport Films in 1962-1963. The 8-minute-long film shows the efforts of British Railways staff in coping with the 1963 United Kingdom cold wave. An example of "pure cinema", it was nominated for an Academy Award in 1965.- Wikipedia

This film was one of my favourites that was shown during the briefing. I thought that the gradual speeding up of both the music and the visuals shown in the film was very effective in portraying a feeling of resolution and engaging the audience in a semblance of a ‘plot’ despite disconnected images. Fast cuts were made in the editing to create a real feeling of  frantic plot movement in the film. I think I am going to look at this one further and use it as close reference for my own work. 

Inner Passage Excerpt- Bill Viola- 2008 

In this excerpt from a video installation piece by Bill Viola, a man embarks on a psychoactive journey across the Mojave desert. The film focuses on the physical body as it confronts extremes of endurance. 

I found watching this film to be quite the visceral experience. Sensory images and sounds are combined along with quick cuts and a lack of music to create a disconcerting atmosphere which you can’t help but watch. A vertical format is use- which adds to the sense of realism because the modern day brain associates it with being filmed with a phone (or I did anyway) which added to the effect. The experience of watching this film was far from comfortable, and I was very interested in just how effective the editing was as inducing a physical reaction of of the audience. I think will look closer at this one and try to use some of the techniques in my own work. 

An Ecstatic Experience- Ja’Tovia Gary- 2015 

Brooklyn-based Ja’Tovia Gary’s six-minute film An Ecstatic Experience (2015), fuses an account of nineteenth-century slavery in the US South as recalled by a former slave in 1937, reenacted in 1965 and reedited for the twenty-first century. Black-and-white TV footage shows the American actress, poet and civil-rights activist Ruby Dee channelling Fannie Moore (a former enslaved woman) describing the revelatory moment at which her mother declared that their enslavement was over: ‘It troubled her in her heart, to know the way we was treated.’ -https://artreview.com/features/jan_feb_2019_future_greats_jatovia_gary/

The most interesting thing about this film stylistically is the fact that lines and shapes are drawn, or seemingly scratched straight into the film, and animated around the central figure. The film is also duplicated multiple times on screen to convey points of particularly high emotion. I really enjoyed the aesthetics of the animated lines, however I’m not sure if it would be appropriate for my piece. It was pointed out in the briefing that the lines actually distract from the actress in this film, making it hard to listen to what she is saying-which is a problem when what she is recounting is a story of great emotional and cultural weight. Although I liked the lines aesthetically, I didn't think they worked that well with the film- I thought they distorted the tone too much, which I think would also be the case if I used this technique in my own work. 

Way of Ozu- Kogonada- 2016 

Way of Ozu is a short film by ‘essay’ filmmaker Kogonada, which examines the repeat motifs, relationships and use of space in films by the Japanese master filmmaker Yasujiro Ozu. 

This is done by comparison using three separate video frames within the piece, which allows Kogonada, and the audience to view three separate Ozu films at once and directly note their similarities/differences. The footage is perfectly timed to often give a domino/transitional effect between the three frames which I thought was particularly effective. 

I am really interested in this style of filmmaking and my give this style a go for my film. 

Grosse Fatigue- Camille Henrot- 2013

Grosse Fatigue is a short film intended to be displayed in a gallery space, showing a dense amount of video information presented in the form of Internet browser windows opening over the top of each other to form connections between imagery. The film is based off of found footage from Google searches and so ids very similar to the archive I have been trying to create for this project. 

Henrot uses quick imagery and editing to create an overload of information. I found it very interesting that she uses the format of browser windows, it almost makes the film feel interactive- like it would be something you could do on your own computer, but at the same time presents pairs of imagery that I would have never grouped, but they work perfectly. I also found the idea of layering lots of video imagery on top of each other in different sizes to be an interesting technique. I don;’t know if it is appropriate for the tone I want in my film, but even so I thought it might be valuable to my project. 

Sans Soleil (trailer)- Chris Marker- 1983

During the briefinf we watched a 30th anniversary trailer for Chris Markers film ‘Sans Soleil’. The film is a feature length experimental essay piece which compiles a series of thoughts, images and scenes mainly from Japan. 

The trailer played many different clips from the film through the template of the text ‘sans soleil’ as a frame- so you were viewing the film directly through the title. This was an interesting way to see the film and an excellent idea for the trailer as it keeps you constantly aware of the name of the film. The saturation/contrast was turned up on some of the clips also, giving the elements an intense effect. I have not seen colour played with in any of the other references so far, so that opened up more ideas for my own film in terms of colour correction! 

Trilogies- Susan Pui San Lok- 2015

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to view this film online- I think it was shown in a gallery space only during its exhibition. However, I did read about the film on the website linked in the brief. Trilogies uses clips from various TV adaptations of The Condor Trilogy produced between Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. It condenses 400 hours of footage into 195 minutes. 

Looking at pictures of the film- it was displayed in three separate frames to be viewed as a single piece- similar to the Way of Ozu by Kogonada. I think this set of three is an excellent way to display dissonate information/clips/imagery. I’m seriously considering trying this for my own work. 

Apex- Arthur Jafa- 2013

Apex is a 800+ photo collage of abstract imagery which attempts to share and build on what Jafa considers  vocabularies and methods central to black cultural production. 

The images play in quick succession accompanied by a beat that matches the cuts between images. This makes the viewing experience rhythmic and mesmerising. The quick cuts allow the film to feel as if it is moving forward and not some much like a slide show which is an interesting effect.  I’ve not seen many films made of only still images like this so it was interesting to consider this style as a possibility. 

Love is the Message, the Message is Death- Arthur Jafa- 2016

Another of Jafa’s films- this one focusing on a montage of music, video clips and  historical recordings to paint a picture of black experience in modern day America.

I thought this one was an excellent example of the style of film I want to make- the combination of mute videos overdubbed with a soundtrack, and videos with sound combined with the soundtrack, as well as text on screen really emphasises the montage aspect of the film. I was really inspired by this one and intend to use some of the techniques. 

H20- Ralph Steiner- 1929 

H20 is a seven minute silent film portraying liquid in various forms. I found it really interesting to sit and watch water in black & white in silence because it almost becomes something else. You can't attach any of the normal sensory attributes to it, and so you notice other things- like tone, reflection and movement. 

Similarly to mechanical principals, which was made by the same person, I found it useful to consider zooming in on a subject to such an extent that it becomes abstract. 

Actuality Picture/ The Magic Lantern- Tom Ireland- 2009-17

This film is 244 minutes long and consists of thousands of images of Saturn taken by the Cassini space probe from 2004 to 2017. The film references early cinema and ‘actuality films’ which documented everyday life. 

The images from the space probe allow us to examine a single subject from hundreds of different perspectives, which is very interesting when viewed in quick succession- allowing the viewer to build up a three dimensional awareness of the planet and its surroundings in their minds. I also found it interesting that this film is said to mirror ‘actuality films’ of everyday life- these are image of space- the very opposite of everyday life, and yet they are displayed in so much detail, and in a relevantly mundane fashion, that Saturn somehow becomes everyday! 

Dreams Rewired- Manu Luksch- 2015

I have only watched the trailer for this film (its feature length) but am very interested in it and will pursue watching the entire thing soon. 

This film uses rare and unseen archival footage from nearly 200 films to create a montage, narrated by Tilda Swinton, to trace the desires and anxieties of todays hyper-connected world/technology. 

I absolutely adore the use of interesting/unusual archival footage combined with a modern speculative message which can also be found in the old video material and becomes clear when linked in this way. This is the exact thing I will be trying to do in my own film. 

I have become more interested in trying to find some archival footage for my own project after viewing this film trailer. 

Arrangement Series- Jin Angdoo- 2013 

In Angdoo’s series of arrangement films, objects such as books, cutlery and flowers are arranged, accompanied by classical music, to represent certain moods. The book arrangement below is ‘timid’. 

I liked the simplicity and abstraction of the imagery shown in these films- and appreciated the set design which shows the artist is self-aware to the passage of time in her film. I wasn’t sure how I could pally any of these techniques to my own work however. 

Miles from Anywhere- Gary Carpenter- 1997

This film, similar to both of the Ralph Steiner films I have already covered, examines surface textures in the extreme close-up. It is an exploration of environment and landscape. 

I found this one easier to watch for the modern eye than the similar Ralph Steiner films because of the inclusion of temporally edited music and ambient noise. I found the textures to be hypnotic the way they are run though the film, and thought again, that seemingly ‘boring’ imagery can be brought to live through sound and editing. 

Samsara- Ron Fricke- 2011 

I watched the ‘food sequence’ clip from the feature length non-narrative documentary film Samsara. The films name means ‘continuous flow’ which sums up the Buddhist belief in birth, life, death and reincarnation. 

I found the sequence I watched from the film, which focused on food production, specifically the meat industry, and then the consumption of the food, absolutely mesmerising. The clips of the production lines and supermarkets where sped up to show the idea of a ‘continuous flow’ of production, and really made the scale of the human food production industry to clarity. 

I thought the order of clips and the pauses between sped up and normal speed ones was particularly effective in allowing the sequence to get points across about what you were seeing without being overtly obvious or needing any narration.

I just watched a YouTube review of *Legend of Korra* and one thing that struck me was when the reviewer said he was actually a bit thankful the studio and producers behind LoK made sure it’s for general audiences and aired in an American network.

For a second I was puzzled until the reviewer explained how LoK has absolutely no fan service-y sexualization of Korra.

And then it hit me: this is true.

Unfortunately anime culture is so skewed heavily *for* male gaze and what a Japanese otaku thinks is attractive. So women characters in anime are in an unnecessary sexualized clothes and presentation

Badass women are slowly being pushed into cutesy helplessness – Fate T. Harlaown is drawn helpless and cutesy in Vivid to elicit the “Moe” response from the audience, to the point people forget she is badass*.

Also noticeable: there are hardly any girl/woman who are drawn as muscular as Korra even when it’s called for.

Heck, Arturia Pendragon (King Arthur) used to be described as having a bit of muscular arms (because broadsword!) and suddenly years later Nasu is all: No Saber (Arturia) is as weak as the other girls without her magical strength.

I guess this is the reason why I love Shiki Ryougi because her clothes are a kimono and a goddamned leather jacket with combat boots.

(Seriously how is younger Nasu better at this than older Nasu?)

Even little girls are not safe from male gaze. These are the moments I remember the words: anime was a mistake.

Seriously if you look at the trailers for animes that will be airing there are a *lot* of pandering to the male gaze – a sports anime where women volley balls with their breasts (or was it ass? Or both?) is one example that come to mind.
