after several weeks of deliberating, i think i've settled on a name for my khml keykid
for khux, i named my player Kay, partly because it's a diminutive of my own name and also because it has an association with keys thanks to arthurian literature. Sir Kay, whose coats of arms are keys, was a knight of the round table, so the name felt fitting for my chibi child soldier <3
but at the start of the game, the player doesn't have much of a personality or history yet. they haven't made the choices that will define the rest of their first life or the next. but now that they've gone through multiple globetrotting, globe-ending adventures, and become someone entirely new (both figuratively and literally) i think it's important to bestow them with a name that is more fitting of the journey they've been on
however, being me, i still wanted their name to have a connection to who they were in their past life. and after lots of time spent making lists and researching etymology, here's where i've landed:
Fay
thought to derive from the latin fata, meaning fate. i love the idea of player carrying destiny in their name, the way they've shouldered the destinies of so many others
also, as is more well known, it can derive from the french fée, meaning fairy, referring to the supernatural creatures of european folklore. in khml, player appears in the form of a falling star and possesses powers they don't understand, so the association also feels appropriate
it also has a connection with arthurian lore! interestingly, the character Morgan le Fay was also a sibling of King Arthur, just like Sir Kay. fun! unlike Sir Kay, she was a morally ambiguous sorceress, which rules
rhymes with Kay :) it might be silly, but it was important to me that the names sounded like two sides of the same coin

WELL YOU CANT LEAVE A BRUH ON A CLIFFHANGER?? Keep the oc talk train going WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
KJAFBHSKDFJ HELLO OMG OKAY UM JUST
I decided that Grace is somewhat a Yuu. But you know, not following traditional game lore. She goes to the ceremony and actually gets sorted into Diasomnia.
The whole thing with Grim does go down just... as an isolated incident with Crowley being the one to keep watch over the him until he figures out exactly what to do.
But Grace? Sorted into Diasomnia. If I recall correctly, Diasomnia is a dorm where they value those with strong magical power and honor? Don't quote me on that, I do believe I read it on an analysis on here once. I ran with that analysis though.
Arthurian Mythology tends to follow the chivaric code, which can often be seen in Lilia, Silver and Sebek! Knight's honor and what not. Besides, it just makes sense. It'd be the perfect dorm if only they didn't scoff at her at every turn simply because her magic isn't all there at the moment. When reading the theory and everything, it makes sense. But in practice? It's lacking, comparable to a child that's just starting and can't even levitate a spoon.
So they scoff at her at every turn. Her fellow first year, Sebek berates how she'd bring shame to the dorm as a human, others simply shame her and try to reason that the mirror made a mistake. That she probably shouldn't have been accepted into the school. (Call back to how in the novel others tend to scorn Yuu because he's magicless and still an alumni.)
→ These are her first two weeks of school until she sighs and goes to Lilia (since Malleus is MIA) to discuss changing dorms. Not to please the others but more-so because she's just so over it lmao
She got used to the training grounds there for her sword fighting though, and Sebek and Silver are both great sparring partners but FUCK if people aren't annoying. Lilia ever the father figure decides to make a compromise. They speak to Crowley and Crowley reasons that if she simply doesn't want to be in the dorm she couldn't switch (the other dorms aren't appealing, maybe Savanaclaw because training sessions, but Diasomnia is the best in her opinion) which is WHEN Ramshackle is brought up.
And until she can basically jump start her magic to where it used to be, she gets to stay in Ramshackle Dorm.. despite it being abandoned and well... Ramshackle. Crowley also gives her the task to watch after Grim. Maybe figuring how to tame this dire beast will help her do somethings here and there.
→ THIS. Is where the game begins! Basically!
She's already a student when the [Prologue] where she meets Ace + Deuce officialy happens. She still accompanies them to the mine and Deuce is the one to make note of how not-afraid she is despite lacking proper magic. Ace kinda shrugs him off about it, but like she's literally about to throw hands with a stick. Actually I wonder if she has a sword/baton like Silver?
She doesn't use the Diasomnia uniform actually! She uses some random vest she found in Ramshackle when cleaning out and doesn't really wear the Diasomnia Dorm uniform either pffft. Has it though. The little Dorm ribbon? She has it in her bag, just doesn't use it.
Deuce and Ace stick with her after that, though she kinda side eyes Ace often because you know.... Ace will be Ace. And some of the shit he does really grinds her gears, but she does have a soft spot for Deuce especially after book 1. Something about how he does everything to make his mom proud really resonates with her... though she doesn't know why.
Ah, she doesn't remember anything from before waking up in the lake. Haha.
My favorite thing about working on Grace has GOT to be how I worked with each overblot scenario fixing it to match her character. How to honor these knightly code values that stay in her mind, instincts at this point. Why she reacts how she does. So let's separate each book in like... conflicts and how they affect those around them. Is it within the dorm? Is it an internal conflict? Does it affect the whole school? External conflict.
→ Book 1 (internal conflict)
At first she kinda... sides with Riddle. Ace's ridiculous excuses and she'd be like "yeah, kinda serves you right." But then Deuce comes in and talks about how ridiculous some of the rules are and she goes "Huh. Let's go see then." Meets Cater, sees how utterly stupid these rules really can be and well- we all know how Book 1 goes down.
It's called The Rose-Red Tyrant for a reason. And that kicks her chivalrous ideology into play. She's gotta help sort out this internal conflict before it gets out of hand. It's great.
Of course that's... internal conflic, just imagine when it's external and concerns more than one dorm.
→ Book 2 (external conflict)
Leona's whole thing practically affects everyone. Hurting players in other dorms already irks the living hell out of her, foul play and what not. But going as far to involve her actual dorm? I think... at the end is when Ace and Deuce kinda find out that she's in Diasomnia. Like.... I'm just saying as someone who did those types of ceremonies where they drone on calling people one by one like graduations... you zone out at some point.
Anyways, I DO HAVE WRITTEN DOWN WHAT SHE SAYS TO LEONA. Because yeah Lilia goes off at him but like so does girly. I think it was.
"It is a good thing that you are the second Prince. if this is how you behave as the Leader of a Dorm, then I can not fathom to imagine how you would be as the Leader of a Country."
Which, you know.... is a dick move and DOES add to his overblot. But also Lilia follows along with his Malleus speech. Silver watches amused and Sebek agrees. Ace and Deuce are like "holy shit" but Deuce lowkey is like "that's kinda-" (I'm bringing Deuce up alot, aren't I? :) That's an important detail for later. Keep in mind, she was meant to be with Silver, at first.)
Anyways, those are like two of the best examples of how it comes to dealing with overblots, it's pretty fun actually!
An important detail is that I don't... think she's in any club right now. When she was a Yuu I had noted down that she used to be in a fencing club, which I would like to include but the closest thing is the training/sparing sessions Sebek and Silver often do. So she often can be found in Diasomnia sparring with Silver which leads to... the rumor mill rumor milling haha

the mirror world. (Loser's bracket)
When a sibling loses in the Tournament, they get one more chance...
they are sent to the Mirror World.
In the Mirror World, they will face off against every other contestant that has lost, up to and including the semifinals. How the bracket works:
Round 1 losers will retain their place in the bracket. They will face off against the loser in the adjacent bracket, as if they had both won the first round and moved on to the second.
The winner of this round will face off against a loser from Round 2, from the opposite side of the bracket. (So for example, when Yukio gets obliterated by Luigi in round 2, he will face off against either Ame or Malo, whoever wins that)
The winner of that matchup will then face off against the winner from the adjacent bracket like normal.
And then the winner of that will face off against a round 3 loser, from the opposite side.
And so on...
This totals to nine rounds of the mirror world instead of six in the normal poll. Mirror World rounds will each be a day long, as opposed to the normal rounds being a week. (so this doesn't take like half a year...)
Once a contestant is eliminated in the Mirror World, they are eliminated for good; no more chances. The winner of this bracket, of course, gets to revive to the finals of the normal round, making the finals between three characters. So it's pretty important!
Without further ado, let's look at the bracket.
Tumblr media
[Image description: A tournament bracket with an unusual bracket format. In between brackets that advance the tournament, there is a bracket that branches off to what is currently nothing, indicating an intermediate round with contestants as-yet undecided. in honor of bargaining for my new job's first contract starting last week here are Arthurian characters ranked by how much I would want them to be on a bargaining team with me:
The Lady of the Lake: lead negotiator. This one is a gimme. She knows the rules of the game in intimate detail, and knows exactly when to follow them to the letter and when to ignore them. Also I feel her gravitas would really lend moral support to the union team.
Brangienne: a skilled political operative, a trusted advisor, a fixer. At least in Gottfried manages to be trusted by both Isolde and Mark, while being completely loyal to Isolde, and can be helpful to have at least one person who can convincingly charm management
Guenevere: a strategist, a beloved queen, levelheaded when the issue is not hot, mentally ill knights. Helpful both for crafting table strategy, and motivating and rallying the bargaining unit
Dinadan: the token knight on the team. Pragmatic, eloquent, would probably not fuck things up too badly and would be excellent at making signs and chants at rallies
Kay. His organizational skills and administrative knowledge would probably be quite helpful. This could easily be cancelled out the first time he opens his mouth, especially if some version of “be civil” was agreed upon in the ground rules
Gawain. Depends on the Gawain, but French Gawain would maybe strike a pretty good balance of remaining calm when necessary and going apeshit when appropriate. Maybe.
Arthur: this man has no gears in between “start a war with Rome” and “believe the best in all sides and try to urge everyone to get along”. Neither position is particularly helpful here.
Morgan le Fay. “No, Morgan, we cannot roofie the management lawyer. Or throw him in a dungeon. No, not even a nice one. Or steal his notes and draw dicks on them. Or send him a cloak that bursts into flames.”
Lancelot. No.

Midnight Suns Wish List
I've been playing Marvel's Midnight Suns for the last few weeks (no spoilers, still haven't finished it yet), and I'm super enjoying the game. I know we're probably not going to get any more characters after the current batch of DLC is out, but I have some characters I'd LOVE to meet/play as, and I want to put them somewhere, so here they are.
Dane Whitman - the Black Knight
Tumblr media
Mostly because the color palette would fit right in, but Whitman's connection to Arthurian Legend (most notably, his sword, forged by Merlin himself) would make him a perfect thematic fit with the more mystical aspects of Midnight Suns. Plus, the man's struggle with his Ebony Blade gives him a lot of narrative significance in the story. Maybe Midnight Suns could see him finally overcome his old arch-nemesis, the Bloodwraith.
Lorna Dane - Polaris
Tumblr media
Yeah, two Danes. Weird, I know. But Polaris is so much more; as the secret third child of Magneto, she has a similar magnet-themed powerset, giving her a unique toolkit we don't see elsewhere in the game. Polaris' status as Wanda's half-sister and occasional X-Men ally would make her a natural fit (although I could also see her in a more antagonistic role, a la Johnny Blaze).
Pietro Maximoff - Quicksilver
Tumblr media
And while we're on the subject of Wanda's siblings, I'm not sure if Pietro's still alive in Midnight Suns canon, but if he is, it's really strange to me how we never actually see him. Pietro and Wanda are really close, and I think a super-speedster like him has a lot of room for creative design. I'm envisioning a suite of Quick cards that let him perform crazy combos every turn.
Jean Grey - Phoenix
Tumblr media
Midnight Suns deals a lot with characters struggling with their dark side. Dane Whitman up above has a lot of that, but there's no way we can't discuss the queen of "struggling with your evil impulses" herself, Jean Grey! The Phoenix can be a powerful ally and an even more powerful enemy, her psychic powers an imposing threat even to master telepaths like Charles Xavier.
Viktor Von Doom - Dr. Doom
Tumblr media
Screw it, let's get ALL the green people in here! Dr. Doom is a natural fit for the melding of science and magic prevalent in Midnight Suns; his dynamic with Dr. Strange and Tony Stark would doubtless be hilarious as three brilliant and egotistical men butt heads, and he's already gotten a few name drops in the game, like a book authored by him and a mention in Deadpool's side story! Plus, I just really like him, okay?
Emma Frost - the White Queen
Tumblr media
And as long as we're talking villains, who better than the matriarch of the Hellfire Club herself, the White Queen? Emma Frost might have a little too much overlap with Jean Grey for both of them to make it in, but I couldn't not put the living manifestation of "gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss" on this list now, could I? And anyway, it's not like there's no overlap in power sets elsewhere in Midnight Suns, what with all the magic-users around. Emma Frost has a lot to offer from a narrative standpoint, too much to be overlooked in my opinion.
And that's about it! Feel free to join in with your own hopes for inclusion in the game (or perhaps a potential sequel)! Or else just yell at me for the sexist pics. I swear, I tried to find the ones that framed the women in the best light, they're just all Like That.

Finally caught up on Guinevere!
After I don't know how many weeks, I am finally up to date on Guinevere in time for the penultimate chapter on Friday.
It's been really interesting seeing this take on Arthurian legend and how the characters have been interpreted such as Merlin ending up as the villain rather than Morgana. Also as a side note, I absolutely love how Morgana has been written in this. I'm interested to see how these last couple chapters will play out and where it will all lead.

Avengers U.N.I. Reports: Charly Rogers
So, I was writing my vampire!Tim Drake that I had left on the side for a week, in favor of the Among Us AU for the Arthurian Legend. When, SUDDENLY, A dream I had about a next gen/Daemon AU/Some Isekai non-sense for Marvel decided he was to be written. Being at over 3500 words and missing at least a third (maybe half) of the shenanigans needed for the plot AND TWO MASSIVE PIECES OF WORLDBUILDING. Might be the first time I do a second draft of a story. Absolute carnage.
Anyway, I realized quickly than, as usual for me, a story focused on a few characters (4 main heroes were planned) has turned into a ensemble cast story where three GROUPS have their own storylines, and one of the original planned heroes is now a recurring character that is part of none of them.
So, I’ve decided that i would write some characters sheets for everyone is this AU. For now, for each day where I didn’t finish the first chapter, I will do a sheet for a character from the universe I haven’t written yet! And to start with, here is Captain America’s (Steve Rogers) son! (When this was just a dumb idea in my brain, he was supposed to be a major side character. now? I don’t know when he’ll even get MENTIONNED, and he has a whole different costume. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh....) :
CIVILIAN
Name: Charly Buck Ferdinand Rogers
Age: 17 and a half (birthday on the 7th of January. IN third year of training)
Height: 1m87/6′1 feet
Eye color: Brown
Hair color: Honey Brown
Skin Tone: Light cofee
Other distinguishing features: Eyebrow scar. Often found wearing blue, white and red combos.
-
HERO
Codename: Protector (despite multiple asks from his teachers, he has refused to use a name related to patriotism or his country)
Suit: All white suite with red hoot, boots and gloves. A golden thread makes a dove on his chest.
Super-powers:
Super-Strengh, can lift up to 1000 pounds (454 kg) without breaking a sweat.
Advanced Stamina: Can hold his breath for 7 minutes, average speed of 32 miles/hours (52 km/h). Actually faster than his father, whose peak speed is 30 miles/hours (48 km/h)
Durability and agility enhanced to the highest human potential
Enhanced Human Physiology: While impossible to test without his consent (or his father crashing down the Avengers C.A.M.P.U.S), previous people with the super-soldier injected in their veins reached what his physical perfection for a human male, and will keep this physique no matter their life-style. it is presumed it is the same with protector, even if it might be slightly weakened by the blood receive from his mother.
Enhanced Human Reflexes: Reaction estimes at eight time faster than a normal person
Peak Human mental Processing: Can learn any weapon/Martial Art training in a matter of a dozen of minutes. Always thinking. Hard to mentally influence.
Peak Human Senses: Protector’s sens of smell, taste, hearing, sight and touch are enhanced to nearly the limits of human potential.
Equipment:
Gantlets that produce force field. He can project those force-fields over anyone he wants by pointing at them. Can create a bigger dome around him by putting a glove to the ground. Unfortunately, can’t shield himself if he is shielding someone else, or the other force-fields protecting the others will dissapear.
Gun filled with tranquilizer gas. Knows to use it very sproadically, and never for crowd control, for reasons uncertain.
-
Personality: There is a strak divide between Charly Rogers’s actions and how he presents himself as the Protector.
Charly Rogers is a well-known social activist, whose extra-curricular lessons in politics have led to becoming a well-known public figure on social medias. He is known for advocating radical decisions, like changement of amendements of the constitution or the dissolution of the current Supreme court, that he calls: “anti-democracy”.
His classmate call him “a very convincing dude with strange opinions”, “ awannabe ally”, “a true friend”, “A very protective dog who got into politics but doesn’t get how the world works”, “the most trutstworthy man alive”, or “a wild mess that somehwo feels like you’re too dirty to touch his purity. Not that he does it intentionally”.
Protector is a lot less provocative. A strong leader, he still decided to follow the actions of his team leader, the second Madame Masque. He is ready to lend his life to protect anyone, and is well-known for being generally one of the heroes with the less collateral damage responsible for. While he is sympathetic to the plight of many common criminals, he is known to not care much for the safety or health of anyone suspected of connections to A.I.M, H.Y.D.R.A or other terrorist organizations. Has refused to work for S.H.I.E.L.D. or  S.W.O.R.D, stating “I prefer to not work for any group whose leadership I can’t rely on to be just or abled of mind”, in one of his rare case of open political anarchism.
His teameantes called him: “A genius in denial” (Madame Masque), “The guy you want on your team” (The Totally Amazing Hulk), “A strange guy, but reliable” (Salem’s Spirit) and “The heart of the team” (Tempest).
-
History:
On the 13/01/2002, Steve Rogers entered the Avengers Tower with a baby less than two weeks old in his arm, declaring it his son. DNA test proved that he was indeed the father. The other DNA has never match with any woman in the S.H.I.E.L.D. database, and Steve Rogers always refused to give any answer to anyone. Suspicion than Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson have an inkling of a potential mother have been raised, but if they have an idea of this mystery’s explanation, they are very good at keeping it down.
Raised pretty openly after an incident where the two years-old Charly was seen crawling in the background of a press conference after he broke the barrier of his playground, Charly became a source of intense speculation and public attention, whitch lead Steve Rogers to home-school the young Charly, who already had a 7th grader knowledge at 9.
In february of 2017, Charly applied for Avengers C.A.M.P.U.S. without his father’s knowledge. Once warned, captain America declared that he would accept only if all ressources were put to make certain than Protector’s identity would never be discovered or revealed without his explicit permission.
Growing up with many members of the faculty, Protector immediately got many positive attention from students and teachers for being the ideal of the cape archetype: always following rules, generous, humble.
Starting with August 2018, however, Charly Rogers, in his civilian idenity only, started to make loud political statements that don’t fit with C.A.M.P.U.S’s beliefs. however, as he never once stated those opinions inside the faculty and few even know Charly and protector were one and the same, it was accepted than protector would be allowed on the grounds, in a plausible deniability kind of way.
No known association with any radical group was found, but agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are listening all his conversations 24/24 h. Thanks to the popularity of his father, he is for now protected of any ingerence by the FBI or the CIA.
-
His true identity is known by: The Upper-levels members of C.A.M.P.U.S, Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, Madame masque II/ Ygraine Bloodstone, Danny Rand and Stephen Strange.

“Weeping was her most common expression, So strongly was her heart set on him.” -- A Selection of Verses Concerning The Maiden of Ascolot, the Stanzaic Morte Arthur (trans. Lou G Gringolet)
It’s Elaine day! I have a very special place in my heart for Elaine, and @gringolet Lou’s translation of her bits in the Stanzaic Morte is AMAZING. But also :((( so tragic. This piece is kind of a mesh between the Morte story and Tennyson’s story.
also a bonus Elaine and Gawain that i did as a warmup sketch because their friendship is VITAL to me:

OK! SO! wow, I did not have the chance to do all the reading and research that I wanted to do, but one thing that really stuck out to me was that Palamedes, essentially, being forced to convert to Christianity. He had to give up his wordly desires and wants in order to fulfill his lifes goal. To reach ultimate peace. Sound familiar? I don't expect the text to expound upon the feelings of doubt and pain that was sure to plague him, converting is no small matter, or rather leaving your religion for another is no small matter. But that's what I wanted to convey and focus on. If I had more time in patience in me I would have tried to set the scene more. Anyways.
