PLS GIVE ME ARTIST X SURVIVOR!FEM!READER THAT BEFRIENDS HER CROWS ON ACCIDENT BY SAVING ONE AFTER ANOTHER SURVIVOR HURTS IT
The reader beats tf out of the other survivor because she's VERY much against animal abuse, so after she patches the crow up and gently plops it in the nest with a little forehead kiss. Then she hunts that other survivor down for sport. But around the artist, she's all shy and sweet (aka bi panic)
Essentially they meet/get close bc of this
I love this woman. I don't know how to function around her. I have also always loved birds and befriended the crows in my neighbourhood, so when she was added to the game I short-circuited.
Thank you.
HIII yes absolutely queen 🫡🫡 i made this so the reader is a newish survivor if thats ok? i just felt it fit a lil bit more for the story but lmk if not and i’ll fix it!
warnings: minor violence, almost implied nsfw but its more just specifying the reader is female, yun-jin kicks a crow, vv long read, my shitty ass english 😭
NOT PROOFREAD/BETA READ
Carmina Mora/The Artist x Crow saviour!Reader
the trial had been going as most do, repair the generators, unhook and heal teammates, try not to be hooked yourself. you were waiting to go unhook Adam, hiding in a particular corner in the realm with the stacked cars (autohaven? you hadn’t been in the entity’s world long enough to remember), when Yun-Jin Lee came sneaking over to you. just as you had decided to sprint over and heal Adam together to get it done faster, a crow appeared seemingly out of nowhere, the small mass of black feathers cawing loudly and alerting the killer of your location. you heard Yun-Jin curse softly in Korean under her breath and then ready herself to sprint away and grab Adam, but not before giving the crow a hard kick to the side.
you were never a violent person, but in this moment you saw red. had it not been for the pained caws of the poor bird, you would’ve immediately taken chase after Yun-Jin to get the crow’s payback with murderous intent. fortunately for the poor thing, you stuck around to help, not even caring if the killer does come to attack you.
you began your approach to the creature slowly, softly trying to communicate you’re not a threat. before you were taken by the entity you had befriended and helped many crows in your neighbourhood, so this shouldn’t be hard.
“hey-shhhh its ok, im here to help you”, you whispered as you took off your jacket to wrap the poor thing in. from the looks of it, the sweet creature wasnt hurt too bad yet rage still flooded your being. its not like it has a choice after all, it just had a job to do. deciding then and there you were going to get revenge for this, you hid for the rest of the trial, making sure that your new friend was safe and comfortable with you all the way back to the campfire.
due to the strange abundance of medkits back at the survivor camp, it was easy for you to get your little pal all fixed up. it was clearly scared at first, but it quickly relaxed, forming a connection with you and feeling you were someone to trust. after a good bit of throat-tearing yelling at Yun-Jin, you took some time to think about where to bring the bird. leading to where you are now.
the eyrie of crows was not a realm you had found yourself dropped into a trial in, yet you had heard the other survivors speak of a monstrous bird woman, turned and twisted by the entity until it was hard to tell where human stopped and ink began. you’re scared, but curious too. you know your friends often exaggerate the horror of the newest arrivals in the fog, so you wonder if The Artist (as she had been assigned by the ones who had faced her most so far) is really as terrifying as you expect.
turns out, you wont have to wait long to find out.
as you finish making your way to what seems to be the main building of the sandy realm, you take a moment to stare in awe at the magnitude of the tower before checking your feathered companion is still ok. climbing over a window to get inside, you find yourself in awe once again, but for a completely different reason.
from the paintings scattered around the bottom floor, to the large messy bookshelves, it is made clear that this place does not belong in the fog. its far too cozy, too welcoming. infact, so welcoming that you dont even notice the tall, nimble figure sneaking up on you.
the only warning you receive of the killer is an angry caw before inky hands wrap around your neck and slam you into the nearest wall. as you wince in pain and surprise, The Artist turns you around to face her.
this… this cannot be the same killer that your fellow survivors had talked about. she’s so gorgeous. too pretty. as her warm, angry breath fans across your face, you feel butterflies rise in your stomach. she almost seems to be carved out of marble, perfect cheekbones and jawline complementing her sharp eyebrows and sharper gaze. as she caws again, as if to ask what you’re doing in her home (or as close as someone can get to a home in the fog), you cant help but notice how soft her lips look too, a sudden desire growing for her to paint your lips black with the ink dripping from hers. her grip tightens, and you remember why youre here.
“i h-have a crow. was injured,” you barely manage to wince out against her tight grip, while softly taking your small buddy from your makeshift carrying sling, “h-here.”
you seem to have made the right decision bringing your companion here, as The Artist’s eyes immediately soften upon reaching your hands. letting go of your neck, she trails her hands down to yours in a way that immediately brings back those pesky butterflies, but you focus on your feathered friend.
cawing affectionately, The Artist softly takes the bird from your hands into hers, making her way upstairs. she doesn’t get too far though, because when your buddy realizes you aren’t following, it immediately starts cawing and flapping its wings in your direction in a panic. confused, The Artist pauses, holding the bird up the stairs and then back down towards you, then repeating as if confused. she coos to the bird quietly and it responds like they’re whispering to each other, and after a bit of back and forth, The Artist turns and gestures for you to follow her up the stairs. you walk behind her slightly, not completely able to keep up with her long, pale legs covered by her swaying dress and- “no. not the time,” you think to yourself, face reddening.
so enamoured and distracted by the presence of The Artist, you hardly notice the large crow’s nest in front of you. however, a sudden inky hand to your torso prevents you from colliding with it, almost making you jump in the best way with how dangerously close her fingertips are to your breasts. removing her hand much too quickly, The Artist beckons another crow over, as if telling it to take care of the new addition to the group. you pat your friend on the head on more time, wishing it luck and promising to see it again, and then its off with the others.
already missing your feathered buddy, you turn to find The Artist staring at you, reading you. her beautiful black eyes are so sharp, yet the anger from just before has faded, replaced with something softer. cawing once, she takes your hand in hers and leads you to the balcony on the same floor. amidst becoming a mess over the feel of her hand wrapping yours so perfectly, so fittingly, you worry for a moment that she’s taking you out here to push you over the edge (though she doesnt seem like she’d do that from what you’ve learned so far). yet, you are soon proven wrong as you round a corner and are met with a painting clearly belonging to the woman who had done all the ones downstairs, the same woman who is now weaving her ink fingers between yours and reaching for the bottom of the canvas with her other hand. she wants your opinion?
“its lovely! youre very skil-“
you’re cut off by a hard shake of her head. The Artist is pointing at something more clearly now: small letters at the bottom left of the canvas, hardly even noticeable if not pointed out. leaning in to read properly, you softly gasp when you realize. its a name. no, its her name. The Artist’s.
Carmina Mora.
“Carmina… that’s so-“ you have so many words to describe, all positive, yet you settle on “-gorgeous.”
turning away so she doesnt see the growing blush on your face (and luckily for Carmina, so you miss her red tinged cheeks at your compliment), you introduce yourself in return and offer your hand out to shake. only for Carmina to take it with both of hers, and hold it to the middle of her chest while nodding her head. a thank you.
“god,” you think to yourself, “im so gay”
the two of you then spend the next few hours or so together, getting to know each other. you get along so well, so naturally, that you wonder to yourself if you were destined to meet outside the fog as well, if you had not been taken. Carmina is so drawn to you, unexpectedly comfortable around you in a way she’s never been with anyone she’s known. you both soak up each other’s presence so much you hardly even notice the sun beginning to set.
you dont want to leave, yet you know the other survivors would endanger themselves and go looking for you if you dont get back before nighttime, and you cant risk that (though you wouldnt mind if Yun-Jin went missing). wishing Carmina goodbye, you begin to walk away slowly, needing to spend as much time with her as possible. however, you dont get very far before pale ink arms are wrapping around your waist and a warm chest is pressing into your back. Carmina coos into your ear, as if asking you to come back soon, and of course, you will. you promise.
relieved to know she’ll see you again, Carmina lets you go and watches you until the fog consumes your figure. you’re a welcome surprise to her, she had never expected to meet someone in her new home that she’d tolerate, let alone enjoy the company of. the other killers were loud and cruel, and the survivors were awful and often obnoxious. except you. you’re different, you understand.
making up her mind, Carmina decides she will send crows for you soon, make sure you visit quickly. you’ve caught her attention, and she has a strange feeling like this was meant to be 🖤

it is a truth universally acknowledged by your community that monaco is the playground of the rich and stupid.
monaco is curated gardens and high palm trees; it is fancy cobblestone streets and luxurious sports cars, but above all, monaco is ‘le casino de monte carlo’.
high, ornate ceilings, lavish décor, and artificial bright lights mixed with the incessant fading music in the background are your home and your extremely competitive workplace.
in a business in which predators far outnumber preys, it is vital to assert dominance and to have clear in mind what the goal of the hunt is. the reward one wants to take home.
it is essential to individuate the competition and to always watch your back. always.
that’s why, when you enter the big fancy doors of the casino or ‘arena’ —as your fellow con artists like to call it— you take your time to scan the lobby and the adjacent bar, letting your trained eyes wash over the group of business magnates sitting on the plush sofas on your right and on the few bent heads hovering over refined drinks on your left.
every time you catch a hard pair of eyes already staring at you with a competitive ferocity, an imperceptible hand movement of someone of your ‘area of expertise’, you let a finger elegantly tap on the small bag you’re mindlessly holding.
tap. tap. tap. tap. tap. tap.
seven, including you.
they’re all eyeing you warily but only one worries you tonight.
the suffused lights of the bar create a coppery halo around his dark hair and with his perfectly ironed white dress shirt, his elegantly pierced ears, and his small waist you reluctantly understand how his targets always fall for his charms so easily.
you look at him from afar with contempt and you miss a certain pair of unfamiliar eyes following your every move.
when you reach your self-appointed nemesis at the bar he fakes surprise and with slightly raised eyebrows he puts the drink back on its coaster and turns his body to look at you. amused eyes take you in and you have to resist the urge to scoff at his flirty antics.
he clears his throat and offers a small nod, taking your hand and helping you onto the stool beside his. “L/N.”
“han.”
when you met han jisung for the very first time you were under all aspects a child. and he was too.
watching from the sidelines monaco’s fauna come and go from the casino was confusing, especially for two orphans without anything in their name in one of the most disgustingly lavish places ever.
at age twelve you were running in the streets swindling unaware tourists, snickering away in the warm night, and splitting everything in half. it was fair and organized and you were incredibly proud of the little business you had going on.

at fifteen you started to put up a little 'con show', more complicated, more cunning. he talked the victims to death and at his signal, you came into action leaving your target with empty pockets and a sour taste on their tongue. it was thrilling and you were so good at it, you managed to put aside some money for the ‘ji and Y/N leave hell’ fund.
unfortunately for you, you were not the only one to see your great potential.
as soon as jisung hit legal age, your modest two-bedroom-one-bathroom apartment was stormed by official recruiting letters from the main groups of con artists in the city. they wanted him and he desperately loved that feeling of being wanted, of being needed; it made him feel powerful.
when you started to find in his eyes the same desire for ‘liberation’ you saw in the eyes of your mother when she left your six years old hand on the steps of the decadent orphanage, you made the decision that would have protected your heart in the most jealous way possible. you left him first.
you still remember how he looked: confused, lost, angry.
but the next day your side of the apartment was completely empty, your keys were left on the hook on the entrance wall and he had wasted no time accepting one of the most well-paid jobs in monaco’s illegal life.
you think about your shared past every time you look at him, even now, as he signals the bartender to make your usual and he does it with such confidence that you have to look away from a mix of annoyance and nostalgia, regret, longing.
“didn't see you there, colleague.”
“didn’t see me? you’ve been staring at me from the moment i stepped foot in here, colleague.” your tone is mockingly sweet but you know he can’t (or won't) understand it.
he winks.
always, always so flirty, and for what?
“maybe i was but can you really blame me? coming here looking like this… who could resist such a vision?”
you scoff tiredly. “hopefully not my target. i kinda want to get home early tonight.”
he nods in acknowledgment and swirls the dark content of his glass with mellow boredom.
you take a peek at the time on his expensive watch and sigh. just a few more minutes and your prey will walk into the casino. just a few minutes and you clock in for the evening.
“who are you here for today?” your lack of interest must not be that evident because his eyes sparkle with mischief and excitement.
he finishes eating an olive and smiles to himself. “music prodigy, genius producer, got even a bunch of big names lining up for him. got rich really fast and wants to spend everything he has in here tonight.”
he takes a sip of his sickening sweet drink and licks his lips; dark gaze never leaving your eyes. he’s got your attention and not only for his shameless seduction tactics.
he’s dangerously close to describing the man you’re waiting for tonight.
“he was here for the grand prix but i’ve asked around,” he gets closer and you can feel his sweet cherry breath tickle your nose, “and he’s going back to seoul tomorrow morning so it should be a quick job.”
“a music producer?” the more he talks the more you feel that familiar annoyance bubble in your chest.

it’s not unusual for mishaps like this to happen but why do you always have to choose the same target as han fucking jisung? or way better: why does han fucking jisung always have to choose yours?
“yeah, he’s pretty young and a little bird told me he just broke up with his girlfriend so…” his sing-song voice tells you he’s waiting for you to finish his sentence.
you turn away from him and set your tense eyes on the main entrance. “so what? are you trying to find love? you know that no one loves a liar, right?”
he scoffs out a laugh. “it’s not that.” he’s starting to get up from his stool and you feel the urge to follow his actions, getting into position before someone can take advantage of your high heels and sweep your ‘date’ for the evening right from under your nose.
“all i’m saying is that he’s sad and alone and more malleable than ever. i bet i can make him give in in less than an hour-“
“what’s his name, han?”
his smile reaches his eyes and you kinda want to wipe it off with a well-placed slap. “why? you wanna join us?”
“han.”
“okay, okay. chill… his name is bang christopher chan.”
the soft music coming from the grand piano crackles like a broken vinyl and you wish that looks could kill because you are right. again.
“jisung.” you feel your angry voice echo in the small space between you.
wide eyes and a burst of nervous laughter is all he can muster when you stare at him like you want to wipe him off the face of the earth. “what? what did i do? why are you looking at me like that?”
you lower your voice lest anyone hears you. “what did you do? are you sure you want me to tell you what the fuck you did? because i won’t be cute about it.”
he rolls his eyes like he always does to de-escalate with you, the initial worry, fades into a smug nonchalance. “just tell me and stop being so dramatic, Y/N. also, be quick, i have a job to do.” he’s looking around expectantly. it’s mostly for dramatics —you know it— but you’re getting antsy.
he goes to leave but you grab his arm and squeeze it so hard that it hurts. “wanna go toe to toe with me, han? he is my fucking target, i’ve been gathering information on him for days and i won’t let you take him away from me, understand?”
and there it is. that horribly attractive smirk. the one where a corner of his mouth is more raised than the other, the one that’s always there when he makes you lose your shit, the one you remember all too well. “but sweetheart, he’s not yours.” his lips come in a pout. “he’s actually free real estate for everyone in here and i bet my ass, he’ll be far too gone for me before you even have the time to get him with your little dirty tricks.”
you’re about to bite back but before you can threaten him more, the most stunning man you’ve ever seen in your short, mediocre life, takes a hesitant step into the golden hall.
he looks completely lost and his innocent dark eyes look around nervously, softening his sharp features. his platinum hair frames his face perfectly and reflects the artificial light of the hall making him look like an angel.
beside you, a blushing jisung tries to regain his signature charming composure before diving in the crowd and chasing after the unsuspecting music prodigy.
and just like that, the dance of the thieves begins. again.
you’ve been sitting at this poker table for what feels like hours and your target has lost each and every game, but still finds the motivation to keep taking out of his pockets what seems like infinite fiches; an ever-full flute of sparkling million-dollar champagne in reach and hands softly moving up and down yours and jisung’s thigh.
the evening is fading into night more quickly than you would have liked to if you were under normal circumstances. ‘fantastic, you’re going to have to work overtime again’ is what you would have thought if the company you had was horribly uninteresting but that —fortunately or not— is not the case.
when you and your unintentional ‘hunting mate’ attacked what you both thought was an unsuspecting prey with every sweet word and praise in your modest arsenal, you didn't take into account that bang christopher chan was a huge and terribly skilled flirt.
how can a single man make two of the best con artists —actors, if one will— in the city feel like flustered teenagers talking to their crush? you can’t really understand it and more often than not you just have to exchange an unbelieving look with jisung to see if he is actually seeing this shit too and you’re not just hallucinating in the middle of the casino.
you’re lost in your conspiracy theories when chan’s warm hand taps you twice just below your chin. “something on your mind, baby?”
you gulp and try to hide your blushing face from your sworn enemy into the blond’s shoulder. “no chan, just… i don’t understand why you keep playing if you haven’t won anything.” your tone is mellow, sweet. you see jisung slightly cringe from the other side of the prey.
chan lets out an airy laugh. his cheeks are flushed with the shade of alcohol and you swear you’re being hypnotized because you can’t recognize yourself as you smile fondly at the soft dimples that appear on his angelic face. “you know what they say, baby: ‘lucky at cards, unlucky in love’, and we wouldn’t want that, right hannie?”
jisung almost chokes on his saliva at the slightly slurred nickname and sticks to nodding his head no. it makes him feel giddy having the man’s hot breath tickle his neck. he’s always been sensitive there, you would know, he thinks.
you both watch in awe and, admittedly a little worry as chan elegantly drowns his fourth or fifth glass of champagne of the night, and you and jisung seem to be thinking the same thing because he glances at his wristwatch and then smirks at you in a way that assures you that he’s convinced he’s about to take home the drunk price without breaking a sweat.
“he’s mine, accept it,” he whispers when chan focuses on losing again at the table.
“you really wish you could take him, right?”
“alright, try to see it from my point of view: he’s been all over me the entire time and- ‘hannie’? do you expect him to choose you over me? like for real?”
you unceremoniously kick him under the table. “i’m really trying my absolute hardest to see things from your perspective but i just can’t get my head that far up my ass, i’m sorry.” he fakes offense. “one useful thing you can do is help me get him out of here, c’mon.”
you manage to get chan’s massive, statuary, greek-god body out of the cushioned armchair not without any struggle. he’s now hanging between the two of you, arms slung over your shoulders and you’re trying your best to drag him towards the garden maze, away from prying eyes.
“do you two need a place to stay tonight? you guys are so hot, you know?”
jisung chuckles softly. “are we now, channie?”
you almost lose balance as the blond abruptly stops in his tracks and pins han against the bushy walls of the maze. “i really do think that, baby and you can’t even begin to understand what i would do to the two of you right now if i could.” the last part is breathed out as a promise and at this point, you’re too hot and bothered by the way he possessively holds your waist that you’re ready for everything and anything he has in mind. “you would like that, wouldn’t you Y/N?”
“i- uh, yeah?”
“good girl, i knew you would…” a sentence so unimportant, so utterly insignificant as he slowly starts painting a trail of wet kisses down jisung’s neck, and in response, your colleague lets out a breathy moan.
then chan is laughing again and you know he’s not yet sobered up.
“what the fuck is happening to us!?”
you can see the center of the maze and he starts dragging chan’s body again but it’s evident he’s as shocked as you are. “i don’t fucking know! i just know i want him to do… unspeakable things to us.”
you choke on spit. “us!?”
eyebrows raised to the sky, eyes that look like they’re going to pop off any second now and he raises both his hands, shrugging his shoulders. you don’t even hear the deaf thump of chan’s body dropping dead on the grassy trail. “i guess!? if you were having a hard time noticing, i like you! love you even! since I was old enough to understand what these feelings meant!”
“ji, w-what?” you called him that a lot when you were partners and you can see on his face that he remembers.
“yeah… and- and you hurt me Y/N. you hurt me so much and despite that i still-”
you grimace but you have to stop him. “jisung i’m so sorry but where is chan? where did he go?”
“-what?”
you get back to back with jisung as the lights of the maze shut down for a second and are immediately switched back on, pointed straight at your faces, constricting you in a prison of spotlights.
from the bushes, in the dark, you can vaguely make out seven silhouettes approaching you slowly, menacingly.
“by the way i just told you that i love you and you didn’t even acknowledge me,” he mutters as to not draw too much attention.
“oh, sorry i’m not reacting to this news with appropriate excitement but i’m really freaking out right now!”
“you don’t have to worry as long as we’re together.”
you throw a surprised look over your shoulder. “oh wow, so now you’re staying?”
“why, what did you expect?”
“i expected you to run, jisung! to leave me just like you did before!
“did i run Y/N?! or was it you? you told me you didn’t need me anymore and i didn’t want to be the weight that kept you from living the life you wanted!”
“you say you loved me but you accepted the job! you didn’t even ask me to stay!”
“because you left our apartment before i could even try anything! i didn’t want the job before you ran away from us!”
a loud and mocking laugh reveals the first of the looming figures from the bushes “my god, chan they’re hilarious, you were right.”
and then he emerges from the shadows in all his sober glory. “now, now minho, you know i don’t lie.” he stares intensely at you and smirks. you can’t even form a coherent thought.
another figure comes into the light. this one is blonde like chan but is dangerously swinging a bat in circles and jisung is sure he doesn’t like that. “i like the chick but are you sure i can’t punch him in the face?”
“yes, i’m sure hyunjin. calm down.”
“what if i break his nose just a little bit? i mean, it’s not like i’m killing anyone!
a deep voice from the back echoes in the air. “what do you want? a gold star?!”
you drop your arms from the fighting stance you had. “i’m sorry but who are you all?”
silence drops. the only thing that resonates in the small center of the maze is chan’s feet crunching the gravel under his elegant shoes. when he’s close enough that you can smell his cologne he opens his arms and six shadows spread out on his sides like wings. “we’re stray kids,” he pauses, “and you’re going to be working with us from now on.”
“and like i already said, i don’t lie. i do want to do things to both of you.”
“to us?” jisung’s voice is high with excitement.
“to you, with you, we'll see where this journey takes us, won’t we baby?”
you can’t stop yourself from letting out a little squeal and he smiles.
“see, you two are too much fun to rot in this city.”

SIX MONTHS LATER.
you wish you could stay like this forever. you really do. but you have a job to prepare for and they know it too even if they're blatantly choosing to avoid the truth.
the bed sheets smell clean, the tropical sun is warm on your skin, a soft breeze makes the white curtains fly around the room, and you can hear the sound of the waves crashing on the shore just outside the beautiful beach house with the occasional loud laughter of changbin who's playing some stupid game with the others on the porch.
so, yes. it's hard to get up from the white-lined bed especially if you're basically head-locked into the strongest and bulkiest chest you've ever had the pleasure of sleeping on.
you shift slightly and chan whines from under you. he can be such a baby when things are not to his liking and you honestly love this drowsy part of him.
you prop yourself on his chest and start to leave on his smooth chest little pecks, bites. some are harsher and you can feel him tense. "channie, baby, i have to get things ready for tonight." he stirs. "and you and ji should too, you know?"
at his name being uttered with such affection, the other man slowly blinks and fondly stares up at you from his sheltered position under chan's arm. he watches you as you talk to your lover and can't help but smile. just smile at how happy and calm you look despite the uncertain past he knows you both had.
you catch him watching you and he's happy you don't keep to yourself the airy chuckle that leaves your parted mouth.
you lean over chan's body to reach your old nemesis. one kiss on the forehead, one on the nose, and the last -the most important, jisung thinks- on his mouth. sweet, long.
at the commotion, chan releases you from his hold and turns to hug the other man.
now you can prepare for what awaits you all this evening.
the all-time greatest heist of your life.

Media Consumption Habits/Responses That Need To Die 1
I'm bored, angry, and a studying creative writing major. So here's some mob mentality responses to consuming media that make me want to hunt down audiences for sport
Next Episode Now! (Rushing Creators)
When the audience demands announced continuation of a piece of media be finished as soon as possible, all while expecting the quality of the previous.
Examples
"Queen Elizabeth died before Hollow Knight: Silk Song released"
"Jzboy! Terraria vs Stickman [inset boss] when???"
"Day 357 without the release of the next season"
The Problems
Bish there is thousands- No, millions of shows, movies, video games, comics, books, ebooks, fanfiction pieces and more out there to consume. Just pick one. You're not going to run out.
Anyway
Rushing the creators and demanding another episode does not give creators motivation, it's not a compliment at all. It ends up rushing creators, and increasing unobtainable community expectations far past the reasonable extent.
It often acts as an incentive to companies to rush the production of things, release projects unfinished, and okay unethical work practices for creatives in big industries.
To smaller creators it becomes a major deterrent. It puts immense pressure on their backs, which only leads to creators halting projects, losing their confidence in their own work, and rushing their creations.
Are you happy about?
How the yearly releases of Call of Duty, Pokémon, and Assassin's Creed have affected their series' quality? Or the quality of Marvel shows/movies?
The results of rushed endings like the final season of Game of Thrones
How Disney treats their VFX artists
No? Then shut up, and go enjoy a beautiful piece of lost media that deserves another audience member.

I watched The Clawdeena9 "documentary" with parts fast-forwarded. Thought it might be an insight into another side of the hobby.
It's hard to put into words how I feel but half of it felt like an ad read and the other half made me feel ill, it was unwittingly exploitative.
First things first, the documentary is him setting the goal of buying all 800 Monster High dolls brand new in box. By selling his unboxed dolls and raising money by being a youtuber and doing brand sponsorship and promotions.
Now... I don't know how to convey the horror a complete BNIB collection of Monster High evokes. It's not only sterilized of the emotions put into putting together your slow imperfect collection, the hunt, the thrift finds, the childhood faves with the bad haircuts. A complete set doesn't tell me which dolls you didn't feel fit you or just weren't as good quality in design or theme. Might as well be watching someone whitewash a home into a greige rental.
It's also the opposite of an investment because most of those particular dolls are chemically disintegrating if you're not treating them. This is a case where they are physically rotting. I am looking at gorgeously displayed stacks of bills with sticky melty resin seeping into them.
-------------
I don't want to be rude about the way people bond to a brand, universe, hobby, sports club, band or even religious rite for bringing meaning, connection and joy into their life at rough spots but ultimately it should serve you not the other way around or it feels maladaptive.
I understand special interests and that's how some people communicate and interact - I have trainspotter type friends for whom their love language is their passion which is their hobby & their work. I wouldn't present their life as entirely healthy because burn out happens and it's hard to find something else if one thing has been all consuming.
IDK. His life isn't terrible. It's not a soul crushing data entry or assembly line work with friends who only connect because you have the same boss or the same sports club. It still felt like a bunch of blurred personal vs professional lines, conflicting interests and a lost soul looking for some sort of goal or closure in the wrong places.
Here's what I really *really* wanted to hear at least once in the 2 hours:
"I enjoy performing"
"I've decided to set myself strict work hours and work boundaries"
"I have a new goal" (any goal but preferably one that can translate to other options such as marketing or beauty school)
"I have friends who don't get it at all but who are supportive in other areas".
It's supposed to be little pieces of art that bring comfort or spark creativity not a lifestyle. Not work is play and play is work and friendship is both and earn to buy more and connect to get more job opportunities to earn to buy more.
If there's one thing that I want to tell him and other fandom folks it would be:
For all the transformative power of stories and representation, you don't owe artists devotion. You paid for the art - that is good enough. The stories and the lessons and the songs and the things to look forward to... Those helped but YOU did that. You saved your life, you picked yourself up, you made changes, you survived.
-----------------------
As for the documentary style? I don't watch reality shows. I follow many artists on both personal and art accounts and often unfollow if I feel the personal is colouring or clouding the work too much. I have very mixed opinions about biopics, preferring memoirs. Both personal and art are valid but the blurring between personal and "content" is deeply uncomfortable and feels like the pimping of both. It's also a very obvious part of the story that Clawdeena9 has been a persona on the internet since Matt was a child, the two are intertwined. He's a grown man who makes his own decisions and yet I oscillated between feeling like a voyeur and feeling like I was being played. Personal TMI just before an ad read? That's the deeply uncomfortable boundary blurring that's at the heart of what people are just calling "cringe".
Many documentary and biopic makers fail at turning "a year in the life" into a narrative arc because life doesn't unfold in a three act structure ending in triumph. Attempting to tie it to a theme of resilience falls flat because life doesn't work like that, it sets an uncanny tone for what is a shopping quest on a backdrop of grief, breakups and mental health issues. It makes Mattel and Youtube out to be life preservers in this narrative instead of welcome distraction goals in life's struggles. The framing is terrible, especially given the young audience being sold what is literally referred to as "the dream".
If this feels like an overwrought critique of some small youtuber's docuseries, yes it is but it also applies to documentaries about Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, the Elvis film, the films about filmmaking, the books about being a writer, the influencer creep of people feeling entitled to personal life details about artists or artists feeling they need to sacrifice more personal details to get a chance.

Today's translation #26
A couple of funny comments mostly from Mitsurou about production of the show, again from the Go Yuri go!!! official fanbook.
Production notes Part 1.
Ep 1.
Titles of episodes
We had to come up with the titles for the episodes first, so before I started to work on storyboards, together with Yamamoto-director we wrote them all at once. The title of first one is like this because we liked how it sounded. But oh well, there's no use in trying to appear cooler that you are, so I think it's not bad (laugh). (Kubo)
The location of the story: "Hasetsu"
In the past, Hasetsu was a very prosperous town thanks to coal mines. Ice Castle Hasetsu was built in that period and at that time quite a lot of people were going there. But now, the coal mines are gone and depopulation is getting worse and worse. In visuals, the artists kindly added for us here and there in the design of the town relics of that prosperous period. Also, there are squid motifs on street lights on the Hasetsu Bridge and squid reliefs on the fences - this idea came to me because when we went to see Nationals in 2015 in Sapporo to collect information for making Yuri!!!, there were reliefs of various species of frogs on one of the bridges on our way from Sapporo Train Station to the venue were the Nationals were taking place, and I thought they were really interesting. (Yamamoto)
Hasetsu is a fictional town on Kyushu. Hasetsu Castle was added, because we thought that foreign fans would like it. After the Grand Prix series started, we didn't go back to Hasetsu at all, but in the first part of the show we portrayed "inaka life" with great attention to details, so you could think about Hasetsu as "the town where they had a lot of fun back then". (Kubo)
[Notes: Inaka means "countryside", but in Jp everywhere that's not a ultra big city like Tokyo/Osaka/Nagoya can be described as inaka. Here, it's "a provincial life", "life in a small town".]
Ep 2.
Communication between Yuuri and the others.
Yuuri and Victor communicate in English most of the time. Yuuri was a foreign student in Detroit, so he can speak English very well. Isn't he incredibly cool? (laugh). (Kubo)
Social media
Just like the characters in the show, real life figure skaters also love social media and there's plenty of competitors who are very active and post a lot. Yuuri also has social media accounts but he's the type that doesn't post at all and also doesn't look at other's people accounts that much. He doesn't want to receive hate, and he thinks that his fans' support is troublesome - he's really bad at fanservice. But a lot of people around Yuuri really like social media, so it's like you know that "Ah, Katsuki Yuuri is there too!" from their posts (laugh). (Kubo)
Ep 3.
[Nothing here]
Ep 4.
Location hunting
We went to see competitions in China, Russia and Spain, and at the same time we were location hunting there. It was tough, because we couldn't get any appointments. For example, when we were in Russia, we went to one famous sport club, Yamamoto-director went to ask for permission to see how it looks inside while knowing that they wouldn't give it to us, and of course they didn't… We also couldn't get backstage access to any of the venues where the GP series competitions were taking place. But in case of competitions abroad, you can have a camera with you, so I, Yamamoto-director and our manager each took a seat in a different part of the venue and we were filming, how it looks inside and everything, on our own. In Russia, we also saw how little children training various sport disciplines were dropped off and then picked up by their grandfathers - we also tried to include this in the show as much as we could. After the show aired, we once again went to Russia and this time thanks to Asahi TV we were able to see that club inside. The perks of being famous (laugh)! (Kubo)
Ep 5.
The background of that famous line
I came up with the "[I decided to call it] 'love'!" monologue early, for it to be used in script written for voice actors' auditions. The version from that script was then used in the show, without any changes. (Kubo)
Ep 6.
[Nothing here]
Ep 7.
Victor's hair whorl
In episode 4, Yuuri had touched Victor's hair whorl, but I'd say Victor's rather worried about his hairline (laugh). It's very charming and humane that he has this kind of a weak point. Even if the world in Yuri!!! is realistic, here I wanted to make them do something that you wouldn't do in real life. It was a very fun scene to write. (Kubo)

10, 12, 25, 32 (off your third shepard ama questions list) if you’re taking asks! 👀♥️
AHH YES I WILL!! and yes I'll do it off the fourth list ;) also im gonna to include truce too since I’m finishing this so so late I hope that’s ok!!
10. Favorite drinking buddy and why:
Mercy never met a homebrew they wouldn’t sample. like, oh shit you made it? yeah I’ll take a sip of that. They don’t drink much (that was their teen years), but they do want to taste something locally made. And mercy loves being someone’s drinking buddy. hell yes, sit next to me, gimme the DL. can always rely on them to be the dd and cover the bill. Didn’t get drunk on the sr1. On the occasions they do get close to shitfaced—well. mercy’s alone shut away somewhere. The ones that have a pass to drop by are Kasumi, Thane, Edi, Jack n Vega. (crime lord: wrex, kasumi. sports coach: vega, nihlus. white collar: samara, edi)
Stellan doesn’t want just a drinking buddy—they want a whole party! as many people as possible. On Mindoir, Stellan was raised in an artists farming commune that had large gatherings to celebrate a harvest and the gifts of the season—sharing fresh cheeses and bread, vegetables on the grill and fruit for smoking later, jars of jam and pickles and butter, honey wine and fruit beer. eating under the big tree. dancing and music around a bonfire, watching the sun (and for some, the moon, too) sink down into the lake. that being said they have a wine night or two doing some board games/group activity. oh you know their citadel party was just. spectacular. joyful
As for Truce? hmmm. Well since I’m still figuring them out their answers are gonna be shorter than mercy n stellans. First instinct? Joker. The two of em have a lot of shared history, even before me1
12. Where do their thoughts linger? The past, present, or future?
Mercy’s solidly in the present. the here and now. what counts is the time between each breath and what they’re gonna do with it. kasumi’s grandmama taught them and mercy’s kept up a regular yoga practice since akuze
Stellan is always looking to the future. thoughts skipping ahead, strategizing, making predictions… what is the next move? How to get there? there’s a reason Stellan was known as a galactic kepesh-yakshi talent first
Truce is hunted by their past in a way mercy n stellan’ve never had to suffer with. A legacy. fuck, a lineage. There’s a ghost already haunting their next footstep
25. Does Shepard dream of the starchild, or does it take a different form?
OKAY so I’m stupid and was a uhhhhh lil high when I wrote this list of questions, so I’m gonna articulate it a bit better n split it into two and maybe go edit the list: Who are they chasing after in their nightmares? Does the starchild/reaper take this form for the final confrontation?
So in Mercy’s nightmares, it starts out as strangers, acquaintances then loved ones revealed to be indoctrinated and consumed by reaper tech until barely recognizable. And inspired by @angstyastro’s big brained Isani idea that gripped me by the throat and hadn’t let up, is the starchild takes mercy’s image, flickering randomly between ages, from younger than they remember to older than they’ll ever be
Stellan’s first dream has the kid, Anderson and the alliance room they were in blasted to bits. They start having nightmares about the mindoir raid (they hadn’t had one in nearly seven years). And the starchild flits between all their siblings, many parents, grandparents and cousins. It hurts, makes them angry at first, but with the slurry of pain, concussion and adrenaline, it’s not too bad seeing their faces again
Ahhh I can’t come up with anything for Truce yet, I gotta rotate them some more
32. What kind of drunk is Shepard? Affectionate, weepy, belligerent…?
Mercy is… honest. They have opinions—in a way that others belatedly realize that until that moment, Shepard’s been holding them at arms length. And for all that mercy knows just every detail and decision that shaped their lives, and like, even after saving the entire galaxy together (twice!!!!), mercy rarely talks about themself. when they’re drugged with a psychedelic (a self-indulgent tropey abduction fic I’ll finish some some day), they are deeply affectionate and weepy
Stellan is a flirt. It’s so unexpected because hoo boy. The commander does not have game. after a pina colada though? Smooth criminal. Fetching blush all across the cheeks, their nose and ears pinking. Big velvet pupils, white teeth biting down on reddened lips. Clever timing, a charming laugh. Leans all up into your space. And with Shiala! Positively handsy. It’s a sight to behold for sure, of spritely little Stellan Shepard leaving tall beefy Shiala with a dropped jaw and a hot stare. Big dancer
Truce, I can’t decide if they go quiet or go out pickin fights
fifty (last) questions for commander shepard

Why does every Chase Atlantic song make me want to write very thinly veiled explicit wangxian content with lyrics in parantheses as a title???
List of ideas i got that i may or may not write:
I'm about to show you (baby, slow down) - lwj gets wwx a new shiny sports car and they try it out in more ways than one
2. Fuck me like im famous (i said okay) - rockstar/famous actor/musician/artist/idk au in which either half of wangxian is the famous one and the other is a very dedicated fan
3. But stranger things have happened (in the night time) - vampire au but both of them are vampires and have fun hunting prey and... "hunting prey"
4. It's not just a figure of speech (you got me down on my knees) - oral. Thats it.
5. The drinks are all gone (but thats fine baby so am I) - drunk confessions and messy makeouts at 3 am that they fall asleep in the middle of
6. Tell me your confessions (baby what's your worst?) - wangxian talking and negotiating kink but its that scene from 50 shades with the submissive contract written properly
7. I need you to show me love (cause I'm getting numb to the feeling) - the "wangxian get together before the ssc au" but they have one (1) last kiss some time between the two parts ive already written idk
8. Ask me how i'm doing (yeah, im coping) - yllz wwx and lwj have A Proper Conversation...kinda
9. Baby take a look around (im the only one that hasnt walked out) - wwx realizes that lwj loves him in a modern au in which everyone walked out after he was framed for some kind of crime he never commited
10. My head's a mess (but im trying regardless) - lwj notices how Not Okay wwx is after returning from the Burial Mounds and wants to find out what happened out there
11. Tell me we weren't just friends (this doesn't make much sense) - wangxian fwb au but they both catch feelings while thinking the other didn't. Angst but its fixable through Communication

December’s event will feature notable BC lawyer, mediator, and conflict resolution expert Sharon Sutherland who will share her story of how creativity has shown up in work and life through the lens of the global theme ‘pain’.
Sharon was one of the first Project Managers of the BC Court Mediation Program (1998-2003). From 2000-2014, Sharon was a faculty member at the University of British Columbia Faculty of Law where, in addition to a range of substantive legal courses, she taught an intensive clinical mediation program and supervised the Faculty’s Judicial Externship program. From 2006-2010, Sharon worked with Mediate BC to develop a province-wide Child Protection Mediation Practicum aimed at increasing the number of child protection mediators in under-serviced parts of BC. From 2014-2016, Sharon worked as a Knowledge Engineer in the development of the Civil Resolution Tribunal, focusing on both Strata and Small Claims streams.
With her background in practicum design and management, Sharon has a special interest in mediation mentorship. She has been a mediation mentor in a variety of programs (Small Claims, Child Protection, community mediations) since 1997. She is a founding Board member of CoRe Conflict Resolution Society where she manages the Speaker Series.
In June 2021, Sharon received an honorary doctorate from the Justice Institute of BC for contributions to conflict resolution through practice, advocacy, and the training and mentoring of mediators. Sharon also was honoured with the 2011 Susanna Jani Prize for Excellence in Mediation.
In addition to an LL.M. in ADR from Osgoode Hall Law School, Sharon received a M.A. in Drama and Theatre Studies from the University of London, and completed all work but her thesis towards a Ph.D. in Drama from the University of Toronto. This theatrical background continues to inform her teaching and practice. Sharon has participated in a variety of academic and practice-oriented projects in applied improvisation, Theatre of the Oppressed, and other theatre tools for conflict resolution.
Sharon is keenly interested in games as a tool for supporting team building, conflict prevention and conflict management. She has hosted several Collaborative Game Jams, and is a member of PignPotato Games. She is one of the designers of Zombie Fight or Flight, a collaborative card game, and designs and hosts Scavenger Hunts for team building.
Every month we ask our speaker a handful of probing questions to give us a deeper glimpse into their life and relationship with creativity:
How do you define creativity and apply it in your life and career? Margaret Boden’s definition of creativity as the ability to come up with ideas that are ”new, surprising, and valuable” resonates with me because it’s wide-ranging and captures possibilities in all areas of life. I try to appreciate creativity in all of its forms - artistic endeavours, cooking, strategic planning, games, team sports, etc.
Where do you find your best creative inspiration or energy? I’m energized by new experiences, change, and (unfortunately, perhaps) deadlines.
What’s one piece of creative advice or a tip you wish you’d known as a young person? Creativity applies to everything, including creating the work you want to be doing.
Who (living or dead) would you most enjoy hearing speak at CreativeMornings? Tahmoh Penikett, Rachel Bloom, Baba Brinkman.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done? Captained a GISH team to victory! Essentially 8 days of making 223 of 227 impossible tasks and goofy acts of kindness happen. Personal craziest tasks would include acting as judge on the diving board of a literal jury pool, setting up a giant game of red rover with 53 wedding guests, re-enacting the pottery scene from “Ghost” using cement, public maple syrup and glittering a teammate, and zombie slow-speed tag at the mall.
What are you reading these days? Fanfiction - endless creativity and, occasional guilty pleasure, combined.
Where was the last place you travelled? Last non-work travel was to Greenland, and now I want to go straight back!

Stray Kids Reaction | Going All Out For Pride Month [Request]
Tumblr media
Stray Kids x GN!Reader
A/N: I’ve never been to pride month despite being apart of the LGBTQ+ 🥺 So you’ll have to bare with me if things aren’t spot on, I wanted to get them as different from one another as possible xx Hopefully if Lockdown is lifted I can go to this years, my favourite Drag queen is going to be at the event closest to me!!
CHAN:
As soon as Chan walked into the dorms he was greeted with the smell of baked goods flowing through the entire apartment as well as giggles and laughter coming from the kitchen.
"Babe?" He called out as he realised one of the voices he could hear was yours, he placed his work stuff down in the hallway and headed into the kitchen where he saw you and Felix standing together at the table. Both of you were covered in icing sugar, flour and who knew what else.
"Hi baby, you're home early," You greeted him as you walked over to him, leaning forward to kiss him carefully since your hands were covered in food dye.
"What have you two been up to?" Chan chuckled as he looked down at the table to see that it was covered in baked goods all decorated with rainbows on them.
"Baking for Pride. We're going to take them to work tomorrow," Felix announced proudly as he picked up one of the rainbow cupcakes for Chan to try. It was a recipe you had been working on perfecting all month wanting it to be right for Pride month. It was a simple confetti cake only with more sprinkles and rainbow icing on the top.
"This is amazing," Chan moaned out as soon as he bit into the cake, you smiled brightly hugging him tightly as he wrapped his arms around your body embracing you not caring that he was getting covered in ingredients.
"I'm proud of you," He told you as he followed you further into the kitchen, watching as you wash your hands off.
"Proud of me?" You asked, confused as to where this was all coming from but Chan just wrapped his arms around you, placing his head in your neck and kissing your shoulder softly.
"Proud of you for being open about your sexuality and happy about it. It's nice to see you this happy," He smiled again before kissing your shoulder and heading off for a shower.
Tumblr media
MINHO:
For the last week leading up to the start of pride month, you and Minho had been hunting for every single decoration you could potentially find. Together you were decorating the entire apartment you shared with one another, having flags in the windows, a flag on your front door as well as a doormat that announced that you were out and proud.
"Perfect!" Minho said as he clapped his hands together, looking at the flag you had just put in the window of your apartment, smiling as you came out to join him to take a look.
"It's not too much?" You questioned, you had been worried he would think all of the decorating and going all out to celebrate would be too much but you couldn't have been further from the truth.
"It's not enough." He whispered as he chuckled softly, he was proud of you for being out and proud about who you were and he would do everything to make sure you knew that.
"Well Felix is baking those cupcakes with Chan's partner, we can steal some tomorrow when they take them to work." Minho told you as you turned around to face him, wrapping your arms around his neck and kissing him softly happy that your boyfriend was proud of you just like you were.
Tumblr media
CHANGBIN:
It had been Changbin's idea to throw a party for Pride month, nothing too big but something with some close friends and family to come along to in celebration of Pride. Changbin had gone all out on everything, ordering decorations months in advance, hiring professional caterers to provide some food fit for Pride. He knew how much celebrating your sexuality and being proud to be yourself meant to you and he wanted to do everything in his power to show you he was the same. Supporting you in any way that he could.
"Changbin, this is insane," You laughed as you joined his side, the party had been amazing so far everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. There were some games in the living room, music in the kitchen where all of the food was, it was incredible to see how much thought and effort Changbin had put into this.
"Anything for my babe," He whispered as he wrapped his arm around your waist and took you into the living room, watching as Seungmin and Jisung attempted to play beer pong together both of them failing to even get one ball into the cups.
"You guys suck," You laughed picking up one of the ping bong balls, throwing one ball and getting straight into Seungmin's cup,
"Drink up pup," You called out happily as you returned to Changbin, getting a kiss on the cheek as he began leading you through the party again.
Tumblr media
HYUNJIN:
The whole thing was Hyunjin's idea, since lockdown was still in effect the two of you couldn't go to parties or pride parade's since most of them had been cancelled. Instead, Hyunjin gave you the idea of supporting LGBTQ+ artists, going out to purchase books, artwork and other items from creators who were a part of the LGBTQ+ community. Ending up in owning so many books neither you nor Hyunjin had space for them but it didn't matter, you were just happy you could still celebrate and take part in Pride month despite there being a worldwide pandemic happening around you both.
"You need to read this one next," You said as you showed Hyunjin the book you had just finished, he glanced up from his copy of "Red, White and Royal blue" and smiled as he nodded.
"Only if you read this one," You agreed with him, switching books as soon as he finished letting him read Carry On which you had just finished.
Tumblr media
JISUNG:
When you asked Jisung to attend a pride parade with you, you had no idea he would be as excited as he was until the day. He'd picked you up at your apartment and he was dressed to the nines in rainbows, sporting a bag which he said had an outfit for you.
"I didn't know if you had a flag so I got you one," He said as he pulled out a flag you could wrap around your body to walk around the parade with and he smiled. Jumping up and down as he waited for you to get changed, he was excited about going to his first pride parade and had been doing research on what would be happening and what he could look forward to.
"I saw that one of your favourite drag queens is going to be at one of the bars local to the parade, shall we head inside and see if we can meet them?" He quizzed you as you headed into the streets where everyone was out in full pride gear, smiling and cheering in celebration.
"Sure!" You yelled out over the music, taking his hand in yours as you both headed out for the day full of fun activities.
Tumblr media
FELIX:
It would be your first pride month since coming out and Felix wanted to do something with you to celebrate but he wasn't sure what there was to do. He'd done a bunch of research leading up to the month and found out there were some workshops happening in the town centre so he booked you both in for a few of them. The first one was a t-shirt workshop where you would both design your own pride shirts and then get to wear them home.
"This is more fun then I imagined," You laughed as you looked up from your paper, you'd been designing four t-shirts but Felix was still struggling on his first one. He figured designing a t-shirt would be fun and easy but it was proving to be harder than he thought to come up with a design for the front of his shirt.
"Here, babe." You laughed moving closer to your boyfriend and taking his hands in yours, he closed his eyes and you smiled.
"Take a deep breath, relax...It's just a shirt...A shirt you want to wear, whatever you want on the front to express yourself on it..." He nodded along with everything you were saying and as soon as you let go of his hands he began drawing designs down, smiling at himself when he pulled away from the paper to show you his idea. A small pride flag embroidered into the top left of the shirt and on the back was all of the different flags that were part of the LGBTQ+ with the quote, "I'm an ally," above them.
"Perfect." You told him as you leant forward to kiss his lips softly.
Tumblr media
SEUNGMIN:
You'd been in Korea since lockdown began which meant flying home wasn't an option, you were going to miss out on Pride and Seungmin knew how much it meant to you so he decided to surprise you. He'd gone out shopping while you were in the dorms one day and he bought a bunch of arts and craft items, canvases, paint and more.
"What's all this?" You questioned as you walked into the kitchen one morning to see Seungmin getting everything ready for you both, two blank canvases on the table as he stared up at you.
"Since we can't go out for Pride and you can't go home I figured we could celebrate our own way." Your mouth fell open as you stared at him, smiling happily as you walked over to hug him tightly.
"We can make our own flags, I also go a bunch of LGBTQ+ Movies that we can watch while we're painting." He explained everything he had planned for the day, even if it wasn't a party of parade it was perfect. Getting to celebrate with someone who loved you and was proud of you in every sense of the word.
Tumblr media
JEONGIN:
"What are you doing?" You laughed softly as Jeongin kept his hands over your eyes, leading you through the park he'd brought you too. He'd told you he had something special planned for the day but that was all he told you before bringing you here.
"You'll see, sit," He chuckled as he knelt own on a blanket, letting you sit down in front of him, once you were comfortable he slowly lifted his hands from your eyes and you gasped out. The boys were all in the park with you, small pride flags painted on each of their cheeks, surrounding you all was a picnic blanket with food. The blanket was a huge rainbow flag and you let out another happy gasp, turning to Jeongin who was having a flag painted onto his cheek.
"You're next," He laughed as he caught you staring at him. It was just the other night that you were telling him about how upset you were about not getting to celebrate Pride month back home with friends and he knew he had to do something special for you in order to make you feel happy again.
"Felix and Seungmin had been baking all night. Minho and Jisung went out and got everything ready this morning when I came for you." You inched closer to your boyfriend, laying your head down on his shoulder as you thanked him for everything.

A Personal List of Lietners, or Book Recs for Each TMA Entity
These are not all horror novels (although some of them are), but I think they speak to themes that will resonate if you’re particularly into one fear or another.
Feel free to add your own recs! I’m obviously limited by what I’ve read (ie I suspect that Wilder Girls is a good corruption book, but I haven’t read it yet).
Books with canon queer characters are marked with an asterix!
The Eye
- The Children’s Hour* by Lillian Hellman. An accusation made by one of the students brings scrutiny and heartbreak to a girls’ school. OG queer tragedy. (CW: suicide)
The Spiral
- Finna* by Nino Cipri. Two exes working at fantasy!IKEA must find a lost customer by travelling through even-more-fantasy!IKEAs.
- “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gillman. Imprisoned by a husband who thinks he’s helping her, a woman sees a figure in the ugly wallpaper of her room. You read it for English class, but read it again.
- Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman. Caden’s a normal teen whose friends and family are starting to notice that his mental health is not quite ideal. Caden is on a ship heading for the Marianas Trench, torn between loyalty to the captain and the allure of the deep. (You know that song Ship in a Bottle?) (CW: forced institutionalization)
The End
- They Both Die at the End* by Adam Silvera. Two teen boys get a call that they’re going to die (this is normal in the world). They meet, and decide to spend the day really living.
- Scythe by Neal Shusterman. In a utopia that has moved past natural death, two teenagers learn to kill for the greater good.
The Stranger
- The Murders of Molly Southborne by Tade Thompson. Every time Molly bleeds, her blood creates a perfect clone of her that wants to kill her. This is inconvenient to say the least.
- The Call by Peader Ó Guilín. In a fantasy future Ireland, teenagers train for the day they’ll be transported to the fairy realm, where they’ll be hunted for sport.
- Coraline by Neil Gaiman. Coraline finds a secret passage to a house just like hers, but full of delightful, magical things--and another mother who wants to keep her forever.
The Lonely
- Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel. The food Tita cooks make those who eat it feel her emotions--it’s the closest anyone comes to understanding her.
The Desolation
- The Fifth Season* by N K Jemisin. Geology-magic causes an apocalypse, but it might also keep a grieving mother alive.
The Slaughter
- The Lamb Will Slaughter the Lion* by Margaret Killjoy. A spirit summoned to protect a commune starts killing people. Queer and punk rock af
- The Light Brigade by Kameron Hurley. “They said the war would turn us into light.”
The Vast
- To Be Taught, If Fortunate* by Becky Chambers. A group of astronauts jump from planet to planet, cataloguing the life they find. But then their updates from home stop arriving...
- Into the Drowning Deep* by Mira Grant. Killer mermaids, hard science, and genuinely every kind of rep you can think of! (also has some Stranger stuff going on in it)
The Buried
- The Unfortunates by Kim Liggett. Teens are trapped in a cave while hiking, and something is hunting them through the dark. (Ok, I couldn’t actually think of a book for this fear, but I asked the inimitable @acesaru and she recommended it. She hasn’t steered me wrong yet!)
The Dark
- The City in the Middle of the Night* by Charlie Jane Anders. Humanity struggles to survive on a tidally-locked planet: one side is pitch dark, the other blazing with light. Sophie, a student, is exiled into the darkness.
- The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau. Ember is the one bright spot in the darkness, but blackouts are becoming more frequent as the city falls apart, and only Lina and Doon seem to be paying attention.
The Corruption
- The Hot Zone by Richard Preston. Ebola!  It’s the only nonfiction on the list but Oh Boy. (CW for graphic depictions of illness)
- Code Orange by Caroline B. Cooney. Can you get smallpox from a book? Mitty isn’t sure, but these terrorists seem to think so...
The Web
- The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. “No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream. Hill House, not sane, stood by itself against its hills, holding darkness within” (It really does have themes about, like, manipulation, but also join me in mixing Hill House and Hilltop Road up 100% of the time)
- Jane, Unlimited* by Kristin Cashore. An orphaned artist goes to a spooky house. She has to make a choice, and we see every possible consequence for that choice. Genre-bending and bi!
- Middlegame by Seanan McGuire. Psychically-linked twins, Rodger and Dodger, are manipulated by the alchemist who created them and controlled (almost) every aspect of their lives. Weird timeline shit!
The Flesh
- The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton. Girls with the power to mold bodies and make people beautiful vie to become the Queen’s favorite in the beautiful, dangerous court of Orleans.
- Unwind by Neil Shusterman. Three teens scheduled to be “unwound” and have all their organs sold to other people flee their fate. Some really gnarly body horor.
The Hunt
- Vicious by V. E. Schwab. Victor and Eli used to be best friends, but after years in prison, Victor will stop at nothing to get his revenge on Eli. Also, they both have superpowers.
- “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Cornell. A long short story about. the hunter becoming the hunted. Spoiler: the most dangerous game IS man.
The Extinction
- Borne by Jeff Vandermeer. The Company destroyed the world, and then a giant bear destroyed the Company. Only a few survivors remain, including Rachel, a scavenger, who finds a creature called Borne and decides to care for it, even as it grows increasingly stronger and more terrifying.
- Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler. A girl who literally feels others’ pain quietly develops a religion while America crumbles around her. (CW: sexual relationship with a really big age gap)
- All the Birds in the Sky* by Charlie Jane Anders. A witch and a mad scientist fall in love at the end of the world. The most real-feeling apocalypse I’ve ever, ever read. (Not really a CW but if reading things that remind you of Current Events makes you uncomfy, beware, because Charlie Jane really nailed it)

Filiodon – Tiny humanoid, neutral good
Primeval and warmhearted – Living in communal camps, the never forgetting filiodon usually settles near fertile hunting grounds, such as shores, forests or steppes. It strives for absolute harmony with nature and therefore only takes what it needs to survive, honoring the spirits of its prey. One of the filiodon’s most remarkable features is its prominent baldness resulting from the numerous head-butting duels it has – a tradition the filiodon literally elevated to an art form. Not only does it exercise head-butting to settle occasional rivalry among individuals but also in greetings, for sports and even in dance routines. In this manner bald visitors are admired as artists of great vigor and commitment, often finding themselves in the position to demonstrate their prowess.

Since it’s Pride Month, I decided this year I wanted to raid the library for a bunch of different queer books to read. Mostly graphic novels in this case, because I’ve had a hard time settling into much reading lately... thought hopefully now that it’s summer and I finally have my second shot I’ll be able to relax a bit more and dig into some heavier novels again. For now, enjoy some light, queer reads that I indulged in this June.
Tumblr media
A Wolf Called Wander
A beautiful novel I had been hearing lots about. This story follows the young wolf Swift, who grows up knowing that he and his pack are the mountains, and the mountains are them. It’s in those mountains that he grows and learns and loves… until disaster strikes and he finds himself viciously torn apart from his family and forced out of the mountains that have always meant home to him. Forced to survive on his own. Swift then begins a gruelling journey that makes him face injury, starvation, and the everpresent danger of humans as he seeks a new place he can call home, and new people with whom he can form a pack.
This is all based on the true story of a tagged wolf known as OR-7, following the unbelievable route he took through Oregon and northern California! It was a very neat read, and I’d definitely recommend it if you enjoy stories told from an animal’s perspective because this book is a master class in it.
Tumblr media
Bloom
I decided for June to try to read a handful of different queer books, and this was one of the first graphic novels I picked up. It is a super sweet story and the art is lovely. It’s about Ari, a boy who has just graduated high school and is now desperate to move away from his small town and his family’s struggling bakery, to join his band in the city where they hope to make it big. An agreement is finally reached: Ari’s father will let him leave, if he can find someone who can replace him in the bakery, which is how Ari meets Hector, someone who sees artistry and peace in baking. For anyone that’s read Check, Please, it gives off those types of vibes!
Tumblr media
Boule et Bill: Bill est Maboul
Another book of Dupuis comics, because I can’t get enough of them! This one I just stumbled across and ended up reading on a whim but it was very cute. Geared younger than the others I’ve read, but still quite funny. It’s the charming hijinks of a young boy, his dog, and the family they live with. Each page or so is a different stand alone joke, a bit like Calvin and Hobbes except expanded beyond a single strip.
Tumblr media
Chicken Run: Chicken Pies for the Soul
This was a ridiculous urge I got and had to follow. I recently rewatched Chicken Run (which is, of course, one of the best movies ever made) and felt the need to see if it had ever been novelized. Well, I found something better than a novelization! This is a chapter book with “advice” and stories written by the various characters, post-movie. It really does a good job with grasping the different characters’ voices and making something simple and funny out of it. It was very cute (and available on The Internet Archive if anyone else feels like reading something ridiculous!)
Tumblr media
Doodleville
I picked this up on a whim and honestly, I shouldn’t have bothered. It was not very impressive. Very mediocre, awkward feeling artwork, and a story that only slightly manages to redeem it. The concept was kind of neat, and I did like how the ending came about, the rest was rather… plodding. I did not like the main character at all, her friends felt very Intentionally Quirky Aren’t We Cute :3 in a way that just tries too hard, and… yeah. Meh. It technically gets the “queer graphic novel flag” but it’s so in-passing that it feels rather excessive to give it that.
If you are interested, it’s about a world were doodles actually exist as living creatures that can be drawn into existence (the rather unsettling implications of which is never fully explored). This is all well and good, until the main character draws a monster and takes it with her to her art club... where it begins ravanging not only her doodles, but those of her friends. Together they need to work together to figure out how to stop this menace.
Tumblr media
FRNCK v4
Phenomenal. I adore the FRNCK series, and book four wrapped up the first “cycle”, revealing several of the big secrets dogging the series so far, and changing how things are going to be able to run in the future.
If you haven’t seen me talk about it before, FRNCK is a graphic novel (a franco-belgian bande dessinée) about a young orphan, Franck, who’s chafing under the constant parade of uninterested foster parents that visit the orphanage he lives in. Determined to learn about his mysterious abandonment instead, he flees the orphanage… but finds himself tumbling through time, landing among a family of cave-people who rather reluctantly take him in and ensure this modern boy doesn’t die in the strange, dangerous new surroundings he finds himself in. You can get these ones in English as e-books, so if you want a really kickass graphic novel series to read please try these.
Tumblr media
Haikyu!!
I’ve heard so much about Haikyu!! that I finally gave in and picked up the first book from the library. And I gotta say, it’s well worth the hype! This series really does capture the best parts of a good sports manga -- which is to say the team is filled with interesting, enjoyable character who all need to learn to pull together, boost each other’s strengths, and cover for each other’s weaknesses. Love me some found family tropes and this series oozes it in the best possible way. And then you also get some very cool action scenes as it makes high school volleyball seem like the most intense thing on earth. I can’t wait to continue it
Tumblr media
Queer Eye
I haven’t been keeping up with Queer Eye but I was watching it ravenously when it first came out, and this seemed like a very cathartic book to read… and it really was. It had the same gentle, loving encouragement as the show. It doesn’t expect you to change your entire life, but to learn to embrace who you are, and take small steps to enhance those things. There a segment written (presumably) by each member of the Fab Five, explaining the mentality behind what they do on the show and how you can grow in those areas too. It’s very zen.
Tumblr media
Spinning
I got this graphic novel out at the same time as Bloom, but it was the one that interested me less of the two... though that’s just because I have less interest in “real world” slice of life as a genre and this one is meant to be autobiographical. If you’re into that, you’ll probably love this because it really is stunning. Very pretty, and the format and pacing is all really well done. It’s a coming of age story for Tillie as she grows up dealing with a crosscountry move, complicated friendships, a burgeoning attraction to girls, and attending competitive figure skating classes.
Tumblr media
This Place: 150 Years Retold
A stunning and heart-wrenching graphic novel told by a collection of different First Nation’s authors/artists, recounting oral histories about the 150 years since the colonialist formation of the country known as “Canada”. In other words, this is a post-apocalypse story, but one that really happened and that entire peoples are still fighting to survive. It’s very eye opening and beautifully told. Very strongly recommend the read, especially if you’re at all interested in history.
Tumblr media
Torchwood: Serenity
Whoops, not technically a book. I had thought these were technically audiobooks at first, but rather they’re audio dramas that were played on the radio. Still, I decided to include one because I’ve been listening to them like a person possessed and they’re too fun not to at least mention. Let me indulge in my obsessions.
If you don’t know Torchwood, it’s a BBC series that spins-off from Doctor Who, focusing on the enigmatic and flirtatious Captain Jack Harkness, who is running the covert organization known as Torchwood, which is tasked to protect humanity from and prepare them for alien contact. It’s goofy and campy but also more adult and heavy than Doctor Who tends to get, so it is (in my opinion) a really fascinating series. Though it also has content warnings coming out the wazoo so maybe make sure it’s for you before delving in.
Serenity specifically is possibly one of the best Torchwood stories I’ve ever experienced. The Torchwood team concludes that there’s an undercover alien hiding in the idyllic gated community Serenity Plaza, and so that means it’s up to Jack and Ianto to go undercover as a happily married couple and flush out the alien without being discovered first. Even if it means being sickly sweet together, pretending to care about the local neighbourhood barbecues, and actually caring a bit too much about the Best Front Lawn competition. What is truly magical about this one, is that it manages to make it a Fake Dating AU despite the fact that Jack and Ianto are actually dating in canon. But they’re both used to dating as a pair of alien hunters with insanely dysfunctional lives, and who now need to figure out how to deal with domesticity. It is marvellous.
Tumblr media
Wilderlore: The Accidental Apprentice
A middle grade novel that felt a bit like a cross between Harry Potter and Pokemon. It’s about orphan Barclay Thorne who wants nothing more than to be accepted in the rule-bound village of Dullshire, and live up to his apprenticeship as a mushroom farmer. He certainly wants nothing to do with the fearsome Beasts who live beyond the village, deep in the Woods or the sinister Lorekeepers that bond with them. It was, after all, a Beast that had killed his parents all those years ago. But when he finds himself at the very edge of the forest, hunting for an elusive mushroom, he is suddenly unable to avoid any of that. Not when a wild girl and her bonded dragon appear to summon a horrible Beast and end up getting Barclay bonded to it instead. Now, if Barclay ever wants to be welcomed back into his home, he has no choice but to venture into the Woods and find a way to sever the bond imprisoning him to the massive, monstrous wolf now imprinted on his body as a living tattoo.
I honestly can’t decide how I felt about this one. I feel like it’d be a really fun read for maybe a grade 5 to 7 student? I was a bit more meh about it. It was fine, but it was very hard not to draw unfavourable parallels to Harry Potter. But for a kid who’s never read Harry Potter? Or even an adult that has but is looking for something different to scratch that itch, this might be a good book to try. I’ll probably try reading the second book when it comes out.

random question but what's your favorite show genres and what's your favorite show in each?
Oh, I love random questions! Huh. Okay so full disclosure I do not know what really counts as "genres", so... let's go by the categories I use to distinguish between them! :D
1. Supernatural: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Supernatural shows are my favorite genre - vampires, werewolves, witches, hunters, demons. There's so often found family in it, I love magic, I love supernatural creatures. And among them all, BtVS absolutely takes the crown, no other comes close.
2. Fantasy: Relic Hunter
Okay, so... don't ask me to explain the difference I draw between supernatural and fantasy as a genre, since they can greatly overlap - both have witches and werewolves in this case. But... there's a difference, for me? Supernatural shows are usually darker, often with a hunt or be hunted element, with a hefty focus on the supernatural creatures. Fantasy are slightly more whimsical with more focus on the magic and magic users - elves, witches/sorcerers; I'd sort a "Harry Potter" into fantasy because the supernatural elements like werewolves are more a side note and the focus is on witches and a magical world, while "Buffy" has the witch-part more on the sidelines and the focus on the creatures of the night.
I prefer low fantasy over high fantasy, because most high fantasy is just... medievial AU but with dragons... So if I can add dragons to things, I'd prefer to see how they'd affect modern times.
I love Relic Hunter and shows like it - searching for magical artifacts. Childhood favorite that still holds up.
3. SciFi: Stargate SG-1
Okay, this genre is actually tougher. For one, because technically I distinguish it into two categories like I split supernatural from fantasy too, because there's a vast difference between a time travel/alien scifi show and a dystopian future on Earth kind of scifi show. Not too big on the latter, more a fan of the first. And then there are many.
For the longest time, I would have said Doctor Who and while I still very much cherish the 10th era and am enjoying 13 right now, I think that on the overall, the bad outweights the good at this point and if I had to choose only one singular scifi show to watch for the rest of my life, I wouldn't go with this anymore.
It's honestly Stargate SG-1 and I'm kind of surprised by that. Back when I watched it for the first time in 2018, I honestly meant to just waste a bit of time and I wanted something scifi and remembered my parents watching this when I was growing up. I never expected it to be as good as it is and while the last two seasons were a slight overstaying their welcome, it's honestly already impressive that there are 8 thoroughly solid seasons?
4. Comedy: Community
There are so many comedies and I guess you can sub-genre them with all other genres too, but if I had to pick, on the overall of comedy shows, I would pick this one, especially now that I've just finished my rewatch earlier this year and it's still hilarious and holds up.
5. Doctor Drama: Grey's Anatomy
Drama is like the vaguest genre possible, so I always split it up into the different categories - doctor, police, lawyer, fire fighter, family. Among them, medical dramas are my favorite and the clear victor here is Grey's Anatomy, I fell hard in love with the show when I watched it last year.
6. Con Arists: Leverage
This is such a nieche little genre and I only know a handful of shows that even fit into it, but there is something very particularly enjoyable about con artists and Leverage is definitely the best of them all.
7. Lawyer Dramas: For the People
I am so mad they cancelled this show after two seasons already. But yeah I love lawyer shows. And I am hoooping the upcoming one with Dom Sherwood is going to be so good it'll take my number one spot for this genre. Until then, the unique look into the different sides of lawyers and the dynamic among the characters makes For the People my favorite.
8. Magical Girls: Sailor Moon
This just ain't a competition. There have been many magical girl anime, but this is like... the OG. The big one. I will always love Sailor Moon.
9. Sports Anime: Haikyuu!!
Though I still harbor very strong frustration about the way the manga ended, after Sailor Moon this might very well be my most rewatched anime.
10. Cartoon: Recess / DuckTales (2017)
Recess has been my favorite cartoon since I was a child and even on repeated rewatches as an adult it still held up (though it's been a while since I last rewatched it), so I can not dethrone it in good faith, but I'd be lying if I didn't put DuckTales onto the top spot, the love and talent that went into that reboot are insane, the story is so good, it is so much fun and so engaging. Though, as with comedy, you could apply all the genres onto cartoons and do their own whole list honestly, but I generally go by my mood, what I want to watch, and when it comes to that, I've never gone for a fantasy cartoon when I was in the mood for fantasy. I have a specific cartoon mood and that can be satisfied by pretty much all sub-genres.
