So, yes, I'm still alive. A lot of things have happened and in the last two years, especially this last year, I've faced a massive art block. In 2021 there were so many things I wanted to show that I ended up not posting a single thing, and in 2022 my mother died during the pandemic. Ironically enough it was not COVID that killed her; it was cancer, but it is even more likely that the chemotherapy itself was her undoing in the final stages of her life.

The cancer was a quintuple metastasis one, starting from the liver, but in the beginning, things didn't seem so dire. A little more than half of her liver had to be removed via surgery; originally the hospital didn't want to let the doctor do it, saying "It's too risky for him", but the doctor responded that "he alone will decide what is too risky for him". This was just a little part of my mother losing her fight for life. Things somehow deteriorated quickly. With her death, a whole sh*tton of problems were unleashed upon my brother and me; quarrels about the inheritance with our maternal grandfather, disputes with mother's friends, and I could just watch as the family was falling to pieces. Even my brother and I began to become distant, and it was just horrific...

Well, fortunately, this is all in the past now, and I got my brother back. :) The maternal branch of the family not so much, but I don't really mind that as my relationship was never such a splendid one with them. I'm sure it was like a surprise for them because, on that part of the family, we could never properly discuss things on the emotional side, so me relaying my feelings to them was quite nonexistent altogether. That is if we don't count the occasional outbursts on my part, which were met with equal vehemence, but never with understanding.

So, these are my kitsune OCs, the silver fox is the father and the other is his son. The silver fox is called Soutenmaru (宗典丸, "law of essence"), but later he is just known as Kyoushi (佼志, I won't translate this 'cause there are too many possibilities) and the ash brown haired one is named Souma (颯磨, "quick to improve").

They were characters from my original story 'The Giddy Fox and the Reticent Blossom' written in Hungarian, my mother language. It's about the romance of a kitsune and a human woman; Souma and the woman meet due to the kitsune making a bet with his teacher, Kyoushi. Souma was Kyoushi's best apprentice and feeling ready to prove this, he wanted to distinguish himself. Kyoushi, on the other hand, opposed this idea, but then they eventually wagered: if Souma is able to seduce the younger twin of the Tougou brothers, then he earns the right to do as he pleases, but should he fail, Souma will have to study even harder under Kyoushy extended tutelage without a complaint. The plot twist is that this mentioned younger twin brother is actually female(!) who, due to some circumstances unknown even to her, was raised as a man. I suppose it's obvious that in these settings it's only natural that drama ensues...

Do they look like characters from Hakuouki? I bet they do, since the time I drew these I was pretty much into Kazuki Yone's style, the one artist who designed Hakuouki's characters.

The girl is called Kazusa (冬桜, "winter cherry"), but initially is introduced as Kojiro (子白, "child of white"). Her older brother is named Kazushiro (冬白, "wintry white"). Although he laughs freely, he is also angered more quickly, but despite this, he prefers to be around people. Kazusa is just the opposite: she is quiet by nature and rather would be alone. Her smiles are usually displayed because of politeness, nevertheless, she has way more tack when it comes to dealing with people.

When I first began to flesh out Soutenmaru, he was part of my InuYasha fanon. He was the young Sesshoumaru's teacher and his original design was very different. He wasn't even a fox, but a youkai of youthful appearance who was just known as the 'Genji amongst youkai'!

Okay, perhaps not so different from the current Soutenmaru. Oh, and look! A cute, little Sesshoumaru. By the way, these are from 2012. I think this will be enough for now...

I usually don't want to diss the new(er) Hakuouki art, especially since it's been like 10 years since Kazuki Yone hasn't been the main artist. For the appreciation see this stunning visual for the new OVA Kazuki Yone has done:

There have been pretty pictures for Hakuouki even after the original artist left, but however year by year there just seems to be more and more.. plasticy, odd pics too. I'm not a fan of that but usually I don't particularly have a problem with it either. But this picture for the new Hakuouki OVA ending theme, it just looks.. rushed.

It kinda bothered me the first time I saw it but lately it's been a lot on the OVA songs on youtube and I have had to see it much more, and now it really bothers me. I don't want to blame the artists in any way, and given that this was for the OVA and not for a new game it's understandable that the quality isn't on the same standard as for the game CGs, but there's just so much wrong going on. The guys look really bad copies of their actual appearance (see the beautiful visual Kazuki Yone did, you can really see it on Harada and Okita).

And it has some really rookie mistakes like on the guys' heads and Hijikata's asymmetric jaw. I mean I'm not a professional artist but minus the coloring I'd say this was fan art. So I ended up playing around with older CGs, just kinda trying to see what the picture could have looked like if it had the effort and time it needed(and the original artist).

This is what I ended up with, I had to change Okita’s whole hair because I couldn’t help but feel like he looked like Iba if I didn’t. Now I’m not saying I “fixed” the ending theme cover, nor I’m claiming this is somehow better. I just did this for fun, to see how cool the pic could have been. And I'm mildly scoffing at the decreasing quality on Hakuouki's offical art.

Sengoku Night Blood & Twisted Wonderland Comparison: The Game

Twisted Wonderland and Sengoku Night Blood are Mobile Games. However, Sengoku Night Blood is an Otome Game, while Twisted Wonderland is a Gakuen Adventure Game.

Both games are collaborations between 3 companies each. (SNB: Marvelous, Kadokawa, and Otomate. TW: Disney Japan, Aniplex and Square Enix.)

*sigh* As much as I love seeing my fave kings Leonidas and Xander in the same wyrmprint, I can’t be entirely happy about it because of the artist who drew the print...

If you guys aren’t aware, last year Hanamura Mai was accused of being a “chimera tracer”. She takes bits and pieces from other artists and makes it her own. Two of who she took from were fellow otome game artists (Yuiga Satoru and RiRi), and the other is a fellow illustrator from FGO (Pako). If you’re a beginner artist, tracing from your artist inspirations is a good way to learn and help you figure out what you want to draw. But Hanamura is a professional, and this is unacceptable. She makes money off of this, and it’s not even by her own capabilities.

Did she trace to make this wyrmprint? I don’t know. She may or may not have. She may have changed in within the months since she was accused and confronted by her “victim”. Or she may have learned from her mistakes, moved to another artist, and became more discreet about her tracing habits instead. Before I unfollowed her Twitter, she showed no shame about what she did. Whether she changed or not, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth to see her work in the game... 

If Cygames wanted another otome game artist, I would have preferred they brought back Kazuki Yone, who already drew Dazzling Duet last year.

About the artist for the Poolside Bar CE: Rei, the artist, is a pretty well known artist in the China fandom. Because yes, her art is great. But also because she openly hates Karna, has been known to diss Type Moon, and other FGO artists like Wada Arco, pako. On Twitter and pixiv, she's all nice to them, but on Weibo, she keeps insulting them. Even saying that Yone Kazuki is copying her coloring style. CN Karna fans are understandably upset that someone who hates Karna was paid to draw him.

I mentioned a while ago that I wanted to do a list of my favorite and hate CEs and here it is, my top 10 most liked CEs. I’ll do my most hated at a later date.

Please note that these lists are based off of appearance alone as I’m judging them based off design, composition, and content of each chosen CE’s art and not for each CE’s effects.

10. Memory of Qualia

Not only do I love how much Mochizuki Kei’s art pops out with bright colors and bold lines, but what I love most about this ce (aside from the adorable tea party these sweet babies are having) is that it’s the only ce where Jack is wearing not only a cute outfit, but it’s actually age appropriate and not uncomfortably skimpy in the slightest.

9. Golden Wings

I can’t believe they hired one of my favorite otoge artists (Usuba Kagerou) to draw Arash/Ozzy in a Gundam/Legend of Galactic Heroes-esque AU and it turned out great. 

8. Phantom Night

The focal point of this CE, being Euryale and Asterios is a perfect example of their very sweet relationship. 

7. Afternoon Party

My favorite Olda Marie CE because of the artist’s gorgeous painterly style and that Olga Marie genuinely looks happy.

6. Chaldea Anniversary

I love this soft family portrait, nuff said.

5. Victor/Another Ending

I am both a huge sucker for Arco Wada’s art and for matching/contrasting compositions. 

4. Gateau (&) Fondant au Chocolat

Once again I love matching/contrasting compositions and how tastefully horny these are.

3. Count Romani Archaman’s Hospitality

This is THE ce that awakened so many Roman fuckers as this art showed us that Dr. Roman was in fact sexy this whole time. Say thank you to Komiya Kunihara everyone.

2. Detective Dantes Series

Not only do I adore the living heck out of Kazuki Yone for drawing Dantes so lovingly, but I also dig how she told a story with each ce as well.

My most favorite soft and tender Mash potato ce, this ce is so dang cute and iconic that Good Smile Company made it possible to recreate this scene with Mash’s latest nendoroid and figma.

Hello! I've recently observed that you modificated your old blog (hanayoi). I can't find arts of Suika and other Hakuouki arts. Did you delete them? Why? I (and not only me i guess) really love them, so I'd be thankful if you ask me :з

Yea! I deleted it since it was no longer needed. I’d rather keep my art in one single blog (this one actually) plus i’m not interested on Hakuouki any longer due to the terrible treatment that the artist, Kazuki Yone, has gotten from the company. I hope this is understandable!
