🌹 Just a heads-up that you can find me on other sites, always under the username niccillustrates - on instagram, comic fury, society6, and maybe some others in the future! 🌹
Why not both!! :) These days, social media is really important for getting your work noticed & for making friends with other fellow artists! I’ve met some of the coolest people I know through both tumblr & instagram, through mutual follows.
But, if you were to choose, I’d say it just depends on your workflow & what kind of things you’d like to post.
For example, if you cafe-sketch a lot, Instagram is good for this; if you do a lot of digital stuff, Tumblr’s easier & maybe better since you don’t have to deal with computer-phone transferring, and obviously if you want to jump into a fandom then Tumblr’s your best bet lmao.
I personally post more sketches/WIPs on instagram, like traditional work from my sketchbook & crop shots of stuff I’m working on (square format right), and my tumblr’s a little more filtered/posts are an aggregation of multiple things.
Hope that helps!
“The social media platform is not only launching the career of under-the-radar artists, it is providing the world with an entirely new way to access art. Where artists once had to first get support of the art world elite—critics, galleries and big name collectors, which would eventually lead to museum shows—before reaching the monied masses, today artists use Instagram as their own virtual art gallery, playing both dealer and curator while their fans become critics and collectors, witnessing the creative process in real time.
The power to expand access to art lovers and collectors without the intimidation that comes with buying the art on display, and the ease in which artists are able to harness that power themselves, is what Christine Kuan, the chief curator and director of strategic partnerships at Artsy, believes is “the future of art education and selling art” to a younger generation. Through Instagram, teens are able to train their eye and their minds in how they look at art on a visceral, rather than classroom, level; and as their career and therefore purchase power builds, there is a high chance they will remember that particular artist from their feed who influenced their taste as they were growing up. “It is about being able to engage with audiences around the world without requiring them to enter brick and mortar spaces to do so,” Kuan explained, adding that social media is slowly changing the “protectionist ideology” many art world insiders struggle to let go of. Longshore, who cites Instagram as a gateway for people of all ages to inquire about pricing in a “much less formal way,” agrees. “It makes it seem more approachable than walking into a gallery where someone rolls their eyes under a pair of black-horned rim glasses,” she explained. “There is no judgment. I’m not checking to see what kind of purse or shoes or how big their diamond is to qualify them as a buyer … It’s a really happy, judgment-free zone to cruise what you love.”

One of my favorite things about social media is that we get to discover wonderful artists, writers, and creators of all kinds.
I have found so many beautiful things amid the chaos. It’s like a light in the dark some days.
Thank you all for sharing your work. It means more than you know. ❤️❤️❤️
(Let’s call things by their name)
i’m really pushing to be kindest person possible while trying not to burn myself out because there’s a frighteningly low amount of kindness on the internet
Just wanted to point anyone who is new here to my little Instagram page! Things have been changing a lot recently in terms of events and in person pop ups and Instagram is where I do most of my event updates. So if you would like to follow me and my work and know when and where I’ll be next, feel free to follow along @sunahblairjewelry ! ☺️☺️☺️
