i actually hate talisa maegyr. i think her whole plot with robb was so stupid. like in the books robb’s marriage with jeyne is this tragic situation that’s really a culmination of the stress and grief that robb has been going through and unable to truly process because he is a child trying to lead his people in a war. he gets injured and then learns that his former best friend has just betrayed him, captured his home, and killed both of his younger brothers which adds to growing list of loss in his life. his father got executed, his sisters are being held hostage, his best friend betrayed him, and now his brothers are dead. so while he’s injured and kind of being consumed by his grief, jeyne westerling is there to comfort him and they do the deed and this only makes things worse because of how robb was raised and instilled with his father’s honor, as well as seeing how jon was raised, robb feels compelled to marry jeyne to preserve HER honor which ends up being his downfall. but nooooo in the show robb falls in love with foreign beauty talisa maegyr and dies because he’s an idiot and couldn’t keep it in his pants. like don’t get me wrong i love robb’s scenes in the show richard madden call me i just think the story could have been so much better and been true to the tragedy that it is in the books.

Explanations for why I did the Cinnamon Roll Meme this way:
Looks like a cinnamon roll, is a cinnamon roll — Emily, coz she's a genuinely caring person towards strangers & acquaintances & her loved ones (but can stand up to her loved ones if she knows they've done something objectively wrong); Charlie, coz she's a genuinely caring person towards strangers & acquaintances & her loved ones (but can get dangerous when she absolutely needs to); Angel Dust, coz he's loyal & (in his own way) nice to his friends; Mimzy, coz her friendship with Alastor is sincere; Carmilla, coz she's a good mum & (although harsh) a good teacher.
Looks like a cinnamon roll, could actually kill you — Adam, coz he gleefully committed genocide despite being an angel with a very human face; Lilith, coz she gives me the vibe of being a scarier & more socially savvy version of Charlie; Niffty, coz she's tied with Charlie & Emily for the position of most adorable fictional character in 'Hazbin Hotel' (2024) yet killed Adam; Susan, coz she reminds me of my granny 'til she opens her mouth (then she reminds me of my "Mister Perfect Golden Child" cousin by being a cantankerous bitch!! *grins in joy* I love Susan); Vox, coz he seems like a nice guy 'til he opens his mouth (oh look, another character who's like my aforementioned cousin; no wonder I love Vox).
Looks like they could kill you, is a cinnamon roll — Sir Pentious, coz he's an adorable dork despite his somewhat scary appearance both as a demon & as an angel; Lucifer, coz he's an adorable dork despite his somewhat scary appearance both as a fallen angel & as a demonic fallen angel; Husk, coz he's a tough love giving sincerely good grump who is unapproachable 'til you get to know him (1 of my aunts in a nutshell); Rosie, coz she's genuinely nice despite being a somewhat scary-looking cannibal; Velvette, coz she's ready to instigate a war & wears skull earrings yet is a good friend to the other two Vees.
Looks like they could kill you, could actually kill you — Lute, coz she was Adam's lieutenant & became the new leader of the exorcists and is a very violent person who gleefully committed genocife; Valencia (named Vaggie in canon, which I treat in my Hazbin Hotel Alternate Multiverse timeline fanfic as solely a name Adam gave her when she joined the exorcist army then she started going by her original name again when she met Charlie), coz she does seem unapproachable 'til you get to know her (the auntie I mentioned earlier would probably adore this awesome lesbian) yet is willing to kill anyone who she deems a threat to her loved ones & used to commit genocide; Alastor, coz he's the Radio Demon who broadcast his carnage of many overlords to all of Hell and anyone can tell at first glance he's not very trustworthy; Cherri Bomb, coz she has a troublemaker vibe that makes it unsurprising when she kills someone in front of you; Valentino, coz he (much like the other 4) doesn't even bother trying to hide how dangerous he is. Honourary mentions who aren't in the pictures — Katie (who threatened to kill Charlie in the Pilot) & Sera (who intentionally let genocide happen).
Almost all of these 22 characters are my Favourites!! Number 1 most Fave is a tie between Emily, Charlie, and Valencia; Nr. 2 is a tie between Niffty, Alastor, Lucifer, Sir Pentious, Husk, Angel Dust, & Cherri Bomb; Nr. 3 is a tie between Adam, Lute, Carmilla, & the Vees; Nr. 4 is a tie between Sera, Mimzy, Rosie, Susan, & Katie.
Anyhoo, I hope people enjoy the meme!!

Stark Sisters Appreciation Week: Day 3 - Paralleling Journeys (Identities)
I am not your daughter, she thought. I am Sansa Stark, Lord Eddard's daughter and Lady Catelyn's, the blood of Winterfell. But not for true, not in her heart of hearts. In there she was Arya of Winterfell, the daughter of Lord Eddard Stark and Lady Catelyn, who had once had brothers named Robb and Bran and Rickon, a sister named Sansa, a direwolf called Nymeria, a half brother named Jon Snow.

4 - The Feast pt 2
Tumblr media
Part 5
The Last Velaryon
Tag list @rise-my-angel @cdragons
Lord Eddard and King Robert Baratheon made their way outside of the feast hall. The laughter and loud noise could still be heard when they walked away out of earshot from others to have their conversation. Eddard paused in his steps. "You're grace, what did you wish to talk about?"
"No formalities, Ned. It's about that Velaryon girl." Robert eyed his friend.
Ned asked him. "What concerns you about her?"
"I think I might have made a mistake when I stripped Jaime of his white cloak." The king declared under his breath.
Lord Stark wasn't sure what to make of his words. "What do you mean?"
"I mean the Kingslayer doesn't seem to give a damn about her. He is hiding something. Only problem is I don't really care to find out what." He chuckled.
Ned clicked his tongue. "We cannot judge someone until we know whether they are a man of honor or not. But what does this have to do with you second guessing your own command?"
"I haven't done much research on the Velaryon house but I figured the lord would have fought against the man who basically helped me banish their house."
"If your house is close to being very small I suppose you would do anything to keep it alive." Ned pointed out.
Robert simply nodded his head. "I've been thinking about this, Ned. I am king and seven kingdoms declined loyalty to me so why not use that power to change one declaration I just wrote."
"Your grace, if you mean to go against the Lannister's I don't think that would be wise." Ned warns his friend and king.
Robert scoffs. "I don't care what they pay me not to. I am not blind Ned and I know you just saw it too. There's something between that girl and your son."
"It is a good thought, your grace. But that's all it should remain just a thought. I doubt Robb has even thought of a betrothed yet." Lord Stark shrugged his shoulders knowing his son and his young at heart nature. He was still a boy, even though he was very good at following the lessons he had been taught so far in life.
Robert moved closer to his friend, staring into his eyes with a serious expression. "You're his father. If he hasn't thought of the idea of marrying her then persuade him to. I'll deal with Tywin Lannister when the time comes."
Three years ago - Haelesa's pov
That morning I was dreading more than I care to admit to myself now. It was the day I had to say goodbye to one of my closest Joella Bridges. Picking up the ends of my nightgown I scampered through the hallways until I reached her chambers knocking three times on the door. "Joella, it's me. Open the dang door!"
"Enough with the shouting. We don't want to wake the whole castle staff. Once they're awake I'll have to start packing to leave." She shushed me by tugging me inside her room and quietly yet quickly shutting the door and locking it.
I admitted throwing my arms away from my sides. "I don't want you to leave. Why can't it be if you're lord father isn't dra yet then the man travels to live with the girl."
"I'm going to miss you too, Haelesa and Chezney too of course. But my parents already agreed to it." She opened her arms and we raced to embrace one another.
Her father had married my mother's older sister and so we we're cousins by birth. Now her father had decided to ship her off for marriage....the only real reason this happened was the tale of bettering one's house. And I had done my own research from what I could find on her soon to be new family. "You don't want to marry this man. It's claimed he has a mustache, Joella."
"Yes but I've also been told he is very cheerful." She added on slightly breaking the hug so we could see the other's face.
I made a noise sticking my tongue out to her. "It's still gross thinking you'll be kissing a guy with hair around his mouth...eww, Raynald Westerling!"
"Haelesa stop it okay. I am already nervous enough and your teasing isn't helping." Joella admitted dropping her arms at her sides.
I smiled at my cousin. "I'm just saying, Ella. You'll be kissing a guy with a full beard."
"Okay, let's change the subject. I want you to promise me something." Joella replied.
Taking her hands in mine I asked softly. "What kind of promise?"
"Promise me that even though we will be away from each other that you will tell me off your adventures. Whether they are big or small. If you find love or not. I want to know everything. So send me letters, cousin." She explained to me with that cheeky smile she always had on her face when we got to spend time together.
Squeezing her hands in mine I immediately agreed without hesitation of what she was asking. "Of course. As long as you do the same back to me.
"I promise." She hugs me gently and I wrap my arms around her hugging her with the same level of emotion.
Robb and I were still just silently walking around the abandoned courtyard of Winterfell. Everyone else was still awake enjoying the feast with the royal family. He paused in his steps outside a wooden cage canal looking at me. "I wanted to show you something."
"Show me what?" I questioned him wrapping my arms around myself and I had taken his other fur cloak that he had given earlier on the day.
He undid the locks of the pen and I gasped taking a step back seeing an animal exit the pen. The animal in front of me was a wolf from what I could by the pointy ears and the long wagging fur tail. "This is GreyWind. He is my direwolf." He responded by running his fingers through the wolf's gray coat.
"I've never seen a direwolf before. Where did you find him?" I asked, lowering myself down on a knee reaching forward and petting his fur when he sniffed my hand before I touched him.
Robb stands on the side of the direwolf. "My father had me and my brothers out hunting with him in the woods. Their mother had died and so each of the Stark children got to have their own pup. We just had to take care of them."
"Aww that's sweet. He seems like a good boy." I smiled still, moving my fingers through his fur and he began wagging his tail back and forth.
Robb smiled down at me. He had been enjoying your company from the moment you two had met. He wished he could spend more time with her. But unfortunately he figured that wouldn't get the chance. "I have trained him as best as I could. "
"You really are something, Robb. You'll make a good Lord of Winterfell one day." I praised him getting to my feet not caring about the mud stains on my dress.
He blushed but I couldn't tell how bad it was given that the only light was provided by some burning torches on the walls and the fact that it was completely dark. "You barely know me and you're already giving me praise, Haelesa. I am not sure how to take it. But thank you."
"You're welcome, Robb. Maybe if we're lucky we can know more about each other before I leave in a few days." I smiled, clasping my hands together in front of me.
Footsteps could be heard coming around the corner causing both of us to turn our heads seeing Lady Catelyn rushing over to us. I could see the annoyance in her facial expression. "Robb, you shouldn't have left the feast. This is for the royal family. Why in the seven kingdoms are you out here?"
"I'm sorry, mother. I was simply showing Lady Haelesa my direwolf." Robb apologized to his mother.
Catelyn shifted her head quickly over to me. "You're the Velaryon girl that is supposed to wed the Kingslayer."
"Yes Lady Stark I am. I am sorry if I have made any problems this evening." I bowed my head giving her a small curtsey.
She shakes her head focusing back on her first born son. "I am just here to say that your father went off with the king to talk about something. So you need to go back inside and represent your house in your father's stead."
"Of course, mother." He nodded in understanding, placing GreyWind back inside his cage. He walked past me and his mother glanced over his shoulder back at me. "I'll see you later, Haelesa."
I looked into his brown eyes waving bye to the young boy. "See you later, Robb....uh if you see my friend Chezney,  Lady Stark. Tell her I am retiring for the evening."
"Goodnight, Lady Haelesa." She responded watching me walk away and she could sense that something was between her son and the young woman.
Comments really appreciated ❤️

I love how GRRM made that mistake about Renly’s eye colour when the Baratheon look (and specifically Renly/Robert/Gendry’s looks) was a whole plot point back in AGOT but he remembered to mention that Lem’s nose has been permanently warped from Arya smashing a tankard into his face. Iconic.

Interviewer: So many of your characters are outsiders, they're either different or disabled in some way and they seem to be the only characters that are capable of true compassion, though they suffer for it. Is this something you're conscious of doing?
George: Definitely! I have a large cast of viewpoint characters, but, for most part, they all have something that makes them a bit of an outcast. Tyrion is a dwarf; Jon Snow is a bastard; Dany, who's beautiful, is a penniless exile who's being essentially sold off in marriage; Arya is born to a noble house, but she's kind of a wild child who doesn't conform with her proper gender roles; Brienne of Tarth, even more (doesn't conform to her proper gender roles), and because of that she suffers a lot of scorn and rejection, as she's not a proper woman in the terms of her society; Sam Tarly is fat and bookish when a lord is expected to be more warlike, strong, fierce and good with a sword, and Sam would rather read and dance and listen to music, so he suffers a lot of rejection as well. I could go on and on.

Ok speaking of changes GOT made… is there any changes you like? I struggle to find big moments, but there are small additions I love. Like Ned praying before he dies, Robb hitting the tree when he finds out, the chemistry that Kit Harrington and Rose Leslie have…. But there are very few structural changes I think improve the story.
hmmm so I can't lie there is a LOT I just don't remember anymore about the show, so wringing my mind a little to come up with something.....
I won't mention things that I think were adapted well (like Ned's execution) as those aren't adaptational changes. and I also won't mention things that I like the idea of (e.g. Jaime's dyslexia) but not the execution (they made out it was part of the longrunning 'stupidest Lannister' joke).
and like.... well I'm stuck already lmao?? I'm not even trying to shit on the show I just feel like it was a consistent exercise in either understating GRRM's work or butchering it entirely. so I can think of only a few things:
I can't find the link to where I talked about this at length but the scene in which Jaime and Ned duel in the streets of KL was a good one imo. I think it was more in character for Jaime to just recklessly fight Ned himself, and a neat parallel to what I suspect will happen between Ned, Arthur and Howland - in that when Ned is attacked from behind by one of Jaime's men in the midst of their fight, Jaime angrily ends the duel bc his man has essentially dishonoured it. I think Ned's fight with Arthur will end as it did in the show (with Howland stabbing Arthur from behind and Ned finishing the job, bc he needs to reach Lyanna), and this is like a parallel to show Jaime and Ned have the same principles, yet each have broken them in times of desperation. My personal theory is that this was a change GRRM recommended - the parallel seems notable to me, and not one that would've even occurred to D&D, esp. given they never gave any particular shit about Jaime's story. And this may sound spurious but I recall that GRRM remembers in an interview, saying the weather was different in the show version of the scene than in the books.... which makes me think he was maybe onset for this one, possibly because of the rewrite??
I'm v much in favour of ageing up the youngest characters. My ideal starting ages for the youngest characters in AGOT would've been Jon/Robb/Dany - 18, Joffrey/Sansa - 14, Arya - 12, Bran - 10. To me they all feel much too young for the roles they play in the story, and it occasionally kills my suspension of disbelief
I way prefer the book’s version of the Red Wedding but I do feel like Catelyn's single cry of despair works better than the book's manic laughter. maybe the laughter was a more vivid image for the books idk
I do actually like how we see Robb's grief onscreen it's very movingly played by Richard Madden. I also love Catelyn's expressions as Robb rides back from the Whispering Wood, like both these scenes are great reminders of their mother/son relationship in a setting where they aren't really allowed to be just that. and like just Michelle Fairley tbh I really like her work as Catelyn even though I don't like how the character was adapted more generally
Breaking the 'concept but not execution' rule just to say I think it was definitely a good idea to explore the High Sparrow as this weirdly charismatic figure so we can see how others might be taken in by him, even whilst we see the extremes of his faith. but that subplot was not executed well at all so fuck it
Yeah I agree that Jon and Ygritte having a slightly more charged romance also works. In the books Ygritte comes and goes quite quickly and I think there is something to be said for lending a bit more gravity to that relationship. I don't think they necessarily had to be the grand romance that the show makes them out to be but I didn't hate it
I might be forgetting other things that worked because some seasons I haven't seen since like 2015, but honestly it just doesn't work for me as an adaptation. things I liked in the show before reading the books feel completely naff in hindsight, knowing how they were supposed to play out, so..... eh
