Let's talk about... Poppy Ratchapong Anomakiti

(This post is inspired by @angelbesideme who didn't know who Poppy was when I rambled on about him in some tags on a post about Tankhun in Kinnporsche. The gist of that ramble is that I love that Tong is getting to play such a complex character with Tankhun since all he had been given before kp was very plain characterisation.

And it's similar with Poppy - in that Poppy is FANTASTIC at the slapstick comedy characters but I just know he would slay a serious role and I really hope he's given the chance in the future. So @angelbesideme this is for you.)

I first became aware of Poppy in YYY, in which he plays Porpla - a yaoi fan and owner of a boarding house...who is either trans or a drag queen (apologies for not knowing exactly).

And in my awareness of him I learnt he was also in Why R U? and Lovely Writer, both of which I had already watched and not really noticed him in...so I went back to see.

In Why R U? he plays Junior - a class clown character and friend of Zon...so with similar slapstick theatrics to YYY...(on the right below)

But in Lovely Writer, he plays Jap, Gene's brother - I think he's the older brother but with the characters' dynamic he sometimes acts like a bratty younger brother - but either way, it's a little more *ahem* 'straight acting'...

And then most recently he's played Foei in Cutie Pie - Lian's wonderful assistant. He's back in a slapstick role but oh my god he was so good. So cute, so darling, so upstaging.

BUT having said that, I really want to see him play something serious, deep, challenging, angsty, soul-destroying (mine), and H E A V Y.

Praying to the bl gods to bring this about...not that it has to be a bl...I would watch him in anything just to see it.

homeless disabled trans person needs help affording more nights in hotel while government housing program keeps delaying my move in-date

3/11/2024: hello, my name is equinox. i am a homeless severely disabled trans person who is living in a hotel. i have been working with this apartment complex since october, working through a program for low-income severely disabled people who will provide me a rent figure based off of my earned income. because i sell jewelry and accept donations online, they are extremely confused as to how much income i make and have been stalling and delaying the process this entire time.

i was promised a move-in date of Tuesday, 2/27/2024, then 2/29/2024, only to have it pushed back yet again. i already set up the electricity in my name as they requested it of me on the 27th. it is march 11th, and i have no idea of when i will be approved, now.

today, i received this email:

i have given them this information several times over the past few months. i have explained that venmo does not generate statements, and that gofundme does not hold a balance. now i've had to explain that stripe also does not hold a balance, and that tumblr is not a payment gateway.

i have been in a hotel for over a month because of this. i have had to explain this information over and over again and have made no headway. i broke down crying this morning because this has been psychological torture. my hotel room is only $38/night. i have tonight booked, but will need help saving up for future nights, as well as the deposit and if i'm ever accepted at this place:

This right here was the moment I realized that there wasn't going to be a love triangle with Hobie and Miles. Because Hobie tells Gwen she left her jumper at his place, and she also left one at Miles'. It's the one his mom picks up off of Miles' bed when they go to talk to him after the party.

Gwen isn't looking for romance right now, her entire life has fallen to hell. She doesn't have a car to pack a go bag in or an apartment at the Spider Society, Gwen is functionally homeless right now. So she's having to create and hide caches of her belongings in the places she feels safest. Hobie and Miles are on the same level in her mind, because they're the closest thing she has to home right now.

And as someone who had to run for their safety it's hard to put it into words at times, the effect it has on you. I kept a bag in my trunk for 5 years ready to drop damn near every possession in my life at a moments notice. It's so hard going through life so untethered, never feeling like you can hold onto anything or show that it has value to you because you have to be ready to drop it and run or it will be used against you.

So seeing Gwen do this, put this much trust in these two people to leave her belongings with them, because she knows that they would never use them against her is so telling. It shows that Gwen thinks the world of Miles. And to have that there, that show of trust for those of us who know what it means without it coming across as poor, pitiful Gwen is amazing. And there's never a moment depicting her as incapable or wrong for her home situation, she's struggling but it doesn't become the main focus of her story arc. Her safe places, her trust in Hobie and Miles is never compromised or lost due to a romance subplot.

I really love just how much depth there is to every layer of this film, how complicated all these characters are. They can be good or bad, have made mistakes and still be these fantastically compelling characters with so much driving their motivations and beliefs.
