seeing with new eyes | egon spengler x reader
author’s note: so hi! this is my first little story i’m posting on here, very exciting stuff! i love love love requests so feel free to hit me with them :) i’m planning on putting together more of a comprehensive list of what i write for and such, but for now, ghostbusters fanfic
warnings: purposeful lowercase, jealousy, distant egon, flirting to make someone jealous, possibly ooc (it’s the first time in writing for ghostbusters), lmk if you guys see any i missed
it had only been a few weeks that i had been working with the ghostbusters to help janine take calls and make appointments, and thus far, they were the most exciting few weeks of my life.
i could hardly remember what my day-to-day was like before i scored my job at the fire station. coming in every day at eight to help janine schedule appointments, starting the coffee brewing for the boys, making sure the proton packs were ready for the specters they would face that day. it was all a routine that flowed so well it was practically second nature.
i even fit in well with janine and the ghostbusters themselves. well, almost all of them anyway.
there was ray, with his kind eyes and bright smile, who had immediately gone out of his way to welcome me to the station. he gave me the tour, teaching me all the little tricks along the way- “if you ever have business around here later at night, that stair kinda creaks—peter hasn’t gotten around to getting it fixed yet, you know how that is,” -and always made sure to keep me in the loop regarding information that referred to before i was hired. ray was easy to joke with and fun to share a snack with on our lunch break.
then, of course, winston. he understood better than anyone else what it felt like to join the gang a little later and made sure i knew he was always available to chat with. while spending time with him i learned more of the practical parts of hunting ghouls, “just in case!” he always said. winston was also one to not sugarcoat things and had pulled me aside after my interview to kindly but seriously caution me as to what the job entailed. i cherished the time we spent walking to the local sub shop and fixing up the ecto-1 together.
peter was an unavoidable presence around the station, although not an unwelcome one. the whole flirtatious douchebag bit he had going was a lot less obnoxious once i got to know the snarky but sweet man that laid behind it. peter was truly devoted to dana and seeing them together put a smile on face; this was due in part to how nice it was to see the two in love, but also because it gave me ammunition to make fun of him with. we playfully messed with each other often, switching between several of our running jokes in the same conversation—much to the confusion of the others.
and finally. the ghostbuster that seemed none too fond of me at all: egon. i admired him greatly for all of the things he’d invented while discovering more scientific information about ghosts than anyone in the field before him. and, sure, maybe i also admired the way his hair fell into his face when he was examining a new specimen and the way his eyes lit up as he jotted new findings down into the various notebooks he had scattered about. but that’s not very relevant. at least, that’s what i try to tell myself and janine. but after my first week working here, our interactions had been extremely limited.
———
while on my tour from ray, we wandered down to the lab. “this is the spot egon frequents, so if you ever need to find him, this is the best place to look.” ray informs me in a quiet undertone. the stark contrast in the boisterous way he’d been speaking upstairs sobered me. suddenly this whole operation felt much more serious-more real, even. we continued further into the room from the staircase to find egon bent over a microscope.
“egon!” ray greets with a slap on his friend’s shoulder. “ray.” egon mumbles back distractedly. his brows furrow as he adjusts the magnification on the equipment, before moving back and shaking his head.
“hard at work figuring out the molecular breakdown of that goo?” i ask, testing a joke to gage just how professional egon truly was.
while ray smiles, egon merely stares. he seems to be at a loss for words as he considers me and before i can apologize, he rushes out, “yes, actually. we got this when peter got, well, ‘slimed,’ we’ll call it. figuring out it’s exact components could help leaps and bounds in figuring out how exactly these specters manifest and what we can do to stop the influx new york has had thrust upon it.”
“oh! so this is definitely some, uh, important ectoplasm then. i have to admit, i don’t know much on the science side of all of this. would you mind if i borrowed your notes sometime?” i asked, shifting my feet. while it was slightly painful for me to have to ask egon for help understanding, i figured, who better than the brains of the bunch? if i was going to be working here for the foreseeable future, it would be good to have a deeper understanding of the creatures i’d be (indirectly) dealing with.
again, egon hit me with that look, as though he’s never seen something like me before. after an awkwardly long beat of silence, ray nudged egon with his elbow. egon suddenly sprung back to life, quickly maneuvering himself off of his stool and to a desk on the other side of the lab. he grabbed a stapled packet of paper and arrived in front of me, offering it to me with a fully extended arm. “it’s a thesis of sorts, you can read it before i submit it to the new york times.” egon says after i take it, tucking it gingerly into my bag.
i expressed my appreciation and shook his still outstretched hand, introducing myself despite the fact that janine told me she had already told all the guys about me. egon shot me a tight smile, and sensing rather than guessing that he wanted to get back to his ectoplasm, ray moved forward to continue my tour.
three days later, i ventured down to the lab on my own to return egon’s thesis. despite his occasionally overly scientific language, the paper had been a good read. i told him as much when i handed him the papers, making my best attempt at ignoring the flutter in my heart when our fingers brushed. “you thought so? it’s good to hear, peter was saying it may be too advanced for ‘normal people,’” at this point, he did air-quotes with his fingers and i tried my hardest not to be endeared by it. “i think he was just messing with me, ray agreed with me that it was a good middle ground of being too academic and too simple.”
with a jolt, i realized his dark eyes were directed to me for my opinion. “definitely! anything that was kind of complicated, you can deduce through the context. and from what i can tell, peter is always messing with everyone, i wouldn’t take his critiques too seriously.” i reassured, a broad smile on my face as i did so. egon opened his mouth to respond when the siren blared, signaling the beginning of a new case and then end to our conversation.
“well, i’ll catch you later! maybe you can brief me on your goo findings.” i added a wink at the end, trying to get a bit more friendly with the doctor. he stumbled his way through a goodbye before leaving the lab-not seeming to realize that he had his suit down here.
———
since that day, it seemed like egon was avoiding me. i wasn’t sure what i had done wrong. maybe the way i joked about his work? but no, he’d seemed fine when i did that before. the fact that i’d read his thesis? then again, egon had been the one to offer it to me.
i took my concerns to ray, where they were promptly overheard by peter.
“don’t worry your pretty little head about it, newbie. egon gets freaked about my jokes all the time and we still put up with each other!” he said bracingly, shaking my shoulders to make his point.
ray looked as though he wanted to interject, but winston called him from downstairs. he grinned apologetically and slid down the pole to see why his friend was calling him. before long, peter and i were sharing the left over lo mein on the table and discussing golden girls (a guilty pleasure of his.)
egon entered midway through this conversation without even glancing our way. he began to brew a new pot of coffee with his eyes fixed sternly on the machine. i felt a frown tug at my lips before i was able to pull myself away from analyzing this behavior and back to peter’s reasoning about how sophia was the best character. something was different though, i noted as peter scooted his chair closer to mine. my mind switched rapidly between peter’s sudden flirtatious behavior as he hooked his foot around mine to egon’s tense shoulders and white-knuckle grip on the cabinet.
“what do you think?” peter’s voice drew my eyes to him as i tried (and failed) to not notice egon in my peripheral. “about sophia.” he prompted again.
“oh, well i guess i would agree with you-” i began, before peter whooped excitedly.
“yes! i knew there was a reason i liked you!” he proclaimed, snatching my hand up and pressing a dramatic kiss to it. i raised my eyebrows at his prolonged eye contact before drawing my hand away with a chuckle.
“peter, we both know you only like me for my pretty face.” i joked. “well, it certainly doesn’t hurt.” he fired back quickly. suddenly egon snatched the whole pot of coffe, turning swiftly on his heel and closing the door harshly on his way out. “sheesh. looks like someone’s a tad jealous. you know, for egon being the scientist here, i’d sure love to study his brain. not for his supposed genius either.” peter scoffed good-naturedly.
i blinked at him in shock. “jealous? egon? no way.” i denied easily. the guy was extremely pragmatic and intelligent, i doubted he would let something so petty effect him. that and he’s completely avoided me the past couple weeks.
“watch, i’ll show you.” peter insisted. i stared at him before finally relenting with a roll of my eyes. “what’s in it for you anyway?” i asked. “well, an opportunity to bother egon, not to mention flirt with a beautiful lady-” i cut him off quickly, “goodbye peter!”
and so peter’s plan commenced. he flirted with me to apparently make egon jealous, despite the fact that i was sure egon despised me. when i told ray how ridiculous i felt this whole charade was, he agreed but chimed in with something that shook me. “although, if this is what it takes to get egon to make a move, i guess it’ll be worth it.”
i spluttered in shock. “what? it’s true! me and the other guys are sick of him being too skittish to do anything but stare at you.” ray continued as if he hasn’t just flipped my world upside down.
before i could retort, the door swung open and egon, the man of the hour, entered. ray quickly switched the topic to our shared favorite snack, cheez-itz. i stared incredulously at the choice in conversation but he gave me a look back that said ‘just go with it.’ we continued talking about cheez-itz until he left the room. “that was ridiculous.” i mumbled, putting my head down on my arms. ray patted my shoulder sympathetically, unable to reassure me because it really had been.
the following day, there was a new box of cheez-itz on my desk. i stopped a couple of feet away to examine the scene. “what’s the matter with you? you’re blocking the space.” janine said as she steered me to my desk. i silently pointed at the box.
“oh. huh.” she said, apparently also stumped. “wasn’t there yesterday.” i mumbled. she hummed as she took in the scene, before we flinched in shock as ray roughly opened the door. “(y/n)— oh, did you get more cheez-itz?” he asked reaching for the box.
“no, i guess someone… got them for me.” i concluded with a smile. ray handed them over with a shrug. “wasn’t me.” him and janine chorused. i shook my head. that much had been obvious. i sank into my chair as i tried to figure out who would gift these to me, when peter strolled in.
“venkman! what is this, some sort of courting gift?” i asked with a raised brow. “courting g—what are you talking about?” peter replied in bewilderment. i held up the cheez-itz in answer. “ah, no. not from me anyway. also you’re gonna have a visitor soon—” before he could finish speaking, egon hurriedly enters the room with winston trailing behind him.
“so there’s a party and no one invited me? real cold.” winston joked, coming to stand next to ray at my desk. before any of us could retort, egon turns to me and clears his throat.
“could i talk to you, (y/n)?” he asks, eyes shifting from me to the rest of the room.
i blinked in surprise. what was with these guys and catching me off guard today? “um, sure!” i replied, standing up so quickly that my chair rolled back. egon nodded appreciatively and walked back out into the stairwell. with a nervous glance at janine and the guys, i followed.
i shut the door behind me, finding egon standing tensely in the hallway. “are you alright?” i asked gently. he looked at me contemplatively before asking, “did you know peter is attracted to you?”
my eyebrows raised in shock. egon took this to mean no and continued. “that’s the reason he’s asked you out to dinner. he wants it to be a date.” he stared at me as he waited for my response. “oh. huh.” i said intelligently. i hadn’t been informed of this plan. i guess peter may have just started saying whatever he could to make egon jealous. i refocused when i saw egon take a deep breath in.
“do you want it to be a date?” his voice was strained. “um, i’m not sure. i guess i’d have to think about it.” i trailed off uncertainly. egon’s gaze lingered on my fidgeting hands before he burst out, “(y/n), i’d like to tell you something before you consider this date with peter. i… i have feelings for you.”
my mouth parted as i stared at him in complete shock. sure, i’d been told that egon liked me. peter had even started this whole scheme to prove it. but i never really thought it was possible. now though…
“well. this definitely changes things.” i mumbled, my mind going a thousand miles a minute. egon seemed uneasy and maybe regretful. “i-i’m sorry if i’ve ruined things—”
“you haven’t.” i replied firmly. i stepped closer and took his hand in mine. egon’s dark eyes searched mine before he slowly leaned in, bringing the hand not holding mine to rest against my collar bone and play with my hair. a smile involuntarily curled my lips up until i couldn’t contain myself anymore. swiftly, my hand caught his tie and i pulled him to me until our lips pressed together.
egon’s hand moved from mine up to my back and he pressed me closer to him, deepening the kiss with the new angle. i brought my other arm around his shoulders to keep my balance. he was a bit taller than me, and kissing him had me on my tip toes.
“does this mean we aren’t going out this weekend?” venkman’s pouty voice broke me and egon apart. his grip on my waist tightened slightly. “the jig is up peter. you can go crawling back to dana now.” i snickered. “yeah, well, sacrifices needed to be made. she’s been waiting on you two to get together longer than me.” peter replied with an overly dramatic roll of his eyes. he exited with a ‘you’re welcome!’ called over his shoulder. loud cheers erupted after he entered the room again.
“going off all the noise, i guess everyone knows we’re together now.” i hummed, turning to look back at egon. he stood with a puzzled furrow between his brows. “so all of the flirting peter’s been doing, it was all to make me jealous?” he asked. “yeah, he said there was no way you’d confess otherwise.”
at egon’s scoff, i raised an eyebrow. “well, would you have? confessed?” i inquired with a grin. his silence was answer enough. i began to giggle while egon merely shook his head and pulled me closer. “maybe venkman’s smarter than we all think.” he mumbled into my hair. i only laughed harder at this, clutching egon’s shoulders.
“so, wait—” i said, pulling away so that i could see egon. “the cheez-itz, were those you?” i asked in wonder. egon ducked his head, smiling bashfully. i gasped dramatically. “look at you being all romantic with the secret admirer stuff!”
egon moved closer once more, pressing another gentle kiss to my lips. “well, it’s not so secret anymore.” he whispered, before i pulled him in once more. at least now i knew that egon definitely didn’t dislike me.

Unnamed Extremely Bad Plan to Defeat Darth Sideous AU - SW AU NO 9
Hopefully writing down this star wars au will help me exorcise the cringe demon that helped midwife it. Time travel au where obi-wan and Anakin come up with an extremely SPECIFIC and UNCOMFORTABLE plan to defeat Palpatine because it unfortunately, would actually work, as it capitalizes on one of Palpatine’s easiest to reach political vulnerabilities. This is not a unique plan- there are other au’s like this, but this one is mine. When searching for ways to explain exactly why this anti-sith strategy inspires such cringe and delight in myself I realized, with sinking dread, I have seen this in an Always Sunny episode...which yeah. I might be over reacting but hey, cringe is a personal phenomenon, everyone’s different.
Anyway! Uh here’s a bunch of plot that will eventually culminate in the plan.
*Too much plot, aaaah*. **All plot actually.** ***Its 1 am and this is still a draft*** ****It’s 2am**** *****This post will be just be background I guess.*****
*******STAR WARS AU NO 9 LAZILY OUTLINED CHAPTER ONE*********
Force ghosts Darth Vader and Ben Kenobi have had time to yell at one another without need for breath, and have more-or-less come to terms with the trainwreck that was their shared life. I wouldn’t call them well adjusted, but they’re more stable then they were the last decade or so of their living existence.
In haunting Luke, they end up encountering an artifact in an ancient Willis temple that offers spirits the chance to fix the mistakes they made in life. It doesn’t truly unwrite what’s been done, but it lets you create an alternate timeline. So this galaxy will still be what it is, but some alternate galaxy somewhere could at least have it better. Its almost never been used, because becoming one with the force usually lets you accept the past, but viewed objectively, Vader and Ben’s lives involved an extreme amount of yikes. They say goodbye to Luke and are flung backwards and sideways.
Anakin is holding his mother as she dies. Obi-Wan is landing on Genosis.
Vader just barely manages to avoid slaughtering the tuskens. To be honest, he doesn’t really get why he shouldn’t- his moral compass is still pretty f-ed up. He’s fairly certain the force is just torturing him, but still he controls himself (for Padme for Luke for Leia).
I’m gonna say well-adjusted!Vader sees murder in general as more of a vice than a sin- on par with having a beer. And really well adjusted Vader is willing to admit to himself that he’s an alcoholic, he seriously cannot regulate, its a problem. He really can’t let himself go, because he’ll just end up spiraling. And so he restrains himself and only seriously maims a few of the adult raiders.
Vader figures he can always come back later and slowly torture them to death if this whole ‘save the future’ thing doesn’t pan out.
Obi-wan leaves his shuttle and hides under a rock for 30 minutes. He calculates thats just enough time for him to pretend he went on an extremely effective and sneaky fact finding mission- just in case anyone checks R4′s records. Gets back in shuttle and gets the fuck out of there, much to Dooku’s chagrin, who lost sight of him after the shuttle landed and is now going to have to switch to one of his alternate start-the-war plans.
On the flight back he reports everything to the council- fallen Dooku and the separatist leaders, the trade federation and the massive droid army, Jango Fett the clone template of the republic army (?) working for the separatists. He briefly comms Anakin, but anyone hacking into their conversations would hear only a nonsensical, rambling conversation. Later, a hacker might turn over the idea that they were speaking in elaborate code, but why would Jedi invent such a thing during peacetime?
The war still starts; at this point in the timeline it was inevitable; the artifact was only designed to give them the chance to correct their own failings, not the galaxy’s. Palpatine still gets his emergency powers.
The same day the armies are discovered, separatist war ships take off to engulf Ryloth. The Jedi are instructed by the senate to lead the clone army and provide immediate relief-this will not be a repeat of the republic’s inaction on Naboo. It’s both better and worse than the first Battle of Genosis. So many more civilians are caught in the crossfire. The first titanic battle is not contained to evacuated droid factories, but rages across an entire populated world. The battle lasts for weeks.
The main reason this fight is less deadly is solely due to the fact that General Kenobi manages to maneuver his way into high command of the entire army.
“I believe assumptions were made since I was the first point of contact with Kamino, Masters,” the Knight explained apologetically to the arriving high council members. “I realize its not quite appropriate, but for right now I am the Jedi most familiar with our forces and the enemies. I would, of course, prefer to cede the role to someone else.”
The assembled Jedi can feel the truth in that statement.
“For better or for worse, advance troops were directed by the senate to land planetside and have met heavy resistance. I managed to redirect them to a more defensible position, where they can provide surface based cover fire for incoming reinforcements. The battle has already begun.” He received a grim nod of approval from Master Windu.
“I feel the need to say now, that if there’s one thing I learned from my time as a general on Melida/Dann, or in working against Death Watch on Mandalore, its that having a clear chain of command is vital for a military to succeed. I don’t need to remind some of you that leadership breakdowns were what ultimately ended both the Stark Hyperspace War and the Yinchorri Crisis,” Masters Koon and Tiin exchanged looks before deliberately sending forth a small force wave of approval, understanding where this briefing was leading.
“I believe that unnecessarily restructuring command before the battle is won here could do far more harm than good.” The reminder of Obi-wan’s unusually militaristic apprenticeship put some of the assembled knights at ease even as it inspired a twinge of guilt in the older masters.
“In command you are, General Kenobi,” Master Yoda finally acknowledged. “A Jedi Master you will be, once done this battle is. Have us do, what would you?”
The battle lasts for weeks, and when its over, the commanding Jedi and Troopers involved will openly acknowledge that had anyone else been in command, it would’ve lasted months, if not years. Facing down logistical, strategic, and tactical problems on a scale unheard of for a thousand years, High General Kenobi does not falter.
Enemy reinforcements seem unending. For all their preparation, every single trooper is new to war, and secretly concerned that should they fall, they will be replaced with cadets who hadn’t even finished their training.
Obi-Wan is putting out fires before they can start. Much to their shock, clone commanders are informed that they will, for the time being, remain in charge of their troops. With a handful of exceptions, Jedi ‘Generals’ were in fact, to be treated as a cross between highly skilled commandoes and advisors with abnormally sourced field intelligence.
“All of you have spent your lives training to lead your brothers into combat. The Jedi Masters and knights who are being assigned to your divisions have not received such training.”
General Kenobi addressed the division commanders, some in person, some over holocomm. All focused in rapt attention as their General reordered the shape of their lives using language they could understand.
“The command structure I am issuing is designed to maximize our ability to utilize our respective strategic capabilities, while minimizing potential loss of your life. It will be our great privilege to serve alongside such an army, and while I fully expect a complementary exchange of knowledge in time, for now, focus on survival.”
The Jedi received similar briefings, tailored for their broader array of combat and military experience. Some, including Jedi Master Pong Krell and Grandmaster Yoda, were pulled aside and tasked with the essential mission of infiltrating and destroying the Droid factories on Genosis. If they were to have a chance of winning this war, they they would need to cut off the seemingly unceasing flow of droid reinforcements.
An elite squadron of Arctroopers and Jedi field operatives were covertly dispatched, Grandmaster Yoda himself in command. Considering Count Dooku had yet to appear anywhere near Ryloth...the grandmaster had the best chance of bringing in the fallen separatist leader alive for questioning.
Shortly after they left, Anakin arrived, having finally turned over Padme’s protection to her regular guard. With the military creation vote past, the assassination risk was considered minimal. The real delay in his arrival came from her repeated attempts to join the Grand Army of the Republic on Ryloth with the intent of coordinating humanitarian assistance. Eventually he managed to convince her that she could do more good in the senate.
After all, he pointed out, someone would need to followup the military creation act with a bill to grant clones equal citizen rights. Otherwise, the legal grey area that cloning fell under and their non-republic origin would inadvertently make the clones slaves.
His borrowed Nabooan cruiser entered the warzone with the grace and efficiency as a small neutron bomb.
Those close enough to see its flaming descent watched in horror, realizing that the high generals own padawan would likely be a war casualty before he ever engaged in combat.
The legion nearest to soon-to-be-ground-zero, under the command of Captain Rex of the 501st, were distracted by heated combat, as the temporary barricade they had put up to defend the civilian population gave way to droidika artillery.
While reloading, several dozen troopers happened to look up to see a speck detach itself from the hull as at spiraled in the lower atmosphere. Hope spread that the Jedi had managed to activate some sort of eject hatch. A skilled shocktrooper could probably control and and survive such a fall with luck, which mean a Jedi almost certainly could.
A few tactical scouts charged with watching the skies confirmed that the speck was indeed a humanoid. No chute was visible, but even 8 days into the war, rumors had already spread about how Master Windu had passed off his chute mid-air to a troopers who had been damaged by suppressing fire, cushioning his free fall solely with the tank he crushed upon landing.
Only one trooper, stationed in the town clock tower specifically to track the Padawan’s arrival and issued with a high-resolution farscope, saw the whole thing. Fortunately for his credibility later, in its current setting, the scope automatically logged photos every 5 seconds, ensuring that for years to come Obi-Wan would have a flipbook as evidence that he was not the crazy one.
CT-3609 or Blink (as he was named after winning the division wide staring contest on Kamino two year prior) forwarded the trajectory of the vehicle to command, who confirmed his analysis that it would impact two clicks out from their makeshift fort and not present a risk to civilian or trooper lives.
As it traversed the stratosphere a figure (desperate repair droid, Blink assumed) emerged from the cockpit to perch on the nose of the ship. As it entered the troposphere, it became painfully obvious that the figure jutting out from the hull of the ship was in fact not a humanoid droid, but an unarmored human. The Jedi stood on the prow of the ship, seemingly impervious to and oblivious of:
air resistance
centrifugal force
normal space gravity
Blink’s slack-jawed bewilderment
the flames engulfing the ship below him
At this range, the smirk on the man’s face was visible (man? boy? kriff is he even through puberty?). Several miles above the surface he leaped, diving towards the ground like a bird of prey.
To the west, the ship made impact with the ground, sending a shockwave that shook the tower just enough for Blink to lose visual in the final moments of descent. Cursing, as while he was confident the Jedi would inexplicably survive, he really wanted to see how. The trooper scanned the droid-engulfed farmland to the north for a crash site, to no avail. Lingering smoke from the burnt countryside negatively impacted visibility low to the ground.
Rather than trying to articulate his report into words, he sent the 50-odd frames the farscope had saved, as well as the coordinates for the jedi’s projected radius of touchdown. A quick radio over to long range electro-ballistics ensured that his landing wouldn’t be marred by friendly fire.
He awaited follow-up questions on the absurd entry method, which, when they came, mostly consisted of variations on “...Is this for real?” and eventually “Can you set the scope to video for a little while?” and finally “Do you think that’s how he got the name Skywalker?”
There was a temporarily lull in fire from the west, likely a ripple effect from the ship’s explosion. From his vantage point Blink could see his batchmates using the opportunity to try and plug the holes in their barricade with broken droid pieces. Regardless of the itch to join them, he knew he couldn’t leave his post until the Jedi actually arrived in camp. Finally, a distant explosion and thick pillar of smoke gave the Jedi’s position away.
He tried to make out details, but the scope had a difficult time focusing through the haze. Manually trying to fine tune the scope’s settings, Blink caught a glimpse of what looked like half a hover tank sailing through the air to impact with a trade federation troop carrier in a fiery explosion. Several more explosions, flying droid artillery, and plumes of smoke were caught on record before visual contact with the source was established. He was mostly visible as a blue blur, lightsaber mowing a meandering path towards their location.
It wasn’t until Skywalker braced himself in place to punch a droidaka into pieces that Blink caught actual sight of the man. Only his eyes were visible, nose and mouth covered by layers of cloth. He blurred, then reappeared on top a massive missile launcher attached to an absurdly heavily armored vehicle. A minute or so of rapid blue flashes passed, the longest he had seen concentrated in one area. Then Skywalker was gone, movement clearly visible as he for once he moved in a straight line, plowing a rapid path away from the launcher.
Less than 30 seconds later, Blink had to wince away from the scope, as a burning white explosion temporarily overwhelmed the direct light filter. The trooper panicked for a moment, thinking he had gone both deaf and blind, but the abrupt, sucking silence ended after a moment with a deafening sonic boom. The shockwave rattled the farscope, nearly knocking it over, but Blink managed to steady it and himself in time.
A cheer emerged from pleasantly surprised vod below. The entire droid legion that had been guarding the missile launcher and apparent ordinance bay was flattened.
It took a moment for the realization to set in that the background noise of missile and and anti-missile collisions directly overhead had slowed pace. With the northern flank gone, artillery were able to redouble efforts to the east, and a second white hot shockwave ensued, signaling that the tide of battle had shifted. It was almost too easy for the republics electro-ballistics to tactically devastate the surrounding forces.
Eventually some sort of win/loss programming must have set in and all forces outside of a certain radius began retreating southward, conceding the scorched land to the republic army. It was cadets work to clean up the final suicidal droid charge.
A commotion ensued as Skywalker leapt the barricade with a mid-air flip. The vod greeted him with cheers, as they correctly assumed his appearance had something to do with the skirmish’s decisive victory.
Blink sent the video of the battle to command and quickly packed up his scope and assorted equipment. Hurrying down the battered tower, Blink thought to himself that this Anakin Skywalker was the best sort of Jedi a trooper could ask for.
uh sorry i got really sidetracked there moving on
Kenobi and Skywalker quickly become the face of the war once again
they grit their teeth a bit, but when they finally have a moment to really plan they eventually agree that to take down Sideous they have to cut off his political power in addition to everything else, and taking advantage of their public personas was the most accessible way to do so (*evil laughter*)
While Dooku wasn’t captured, Yoda heard the truth in his old student’s cryptic warnings about a Sith in the Senate, and the council begins carefully editing their release of tactical plans to the Chancellor’s office in the hopes of ferreting out the spy in their midst.
Pong Krell looses two arms in his duel with Dooku. Obi-Wan successfully hides his smug pleasure at the news. Anakin enjoys makeing comparisons between him and Grievous.
Kenobi doesn’t allow the origin of the clones to go unexamined, although he agrees that if the public were informed that they don’t actually know who ordered them it would probably cause panic.
The ‘inhibitor chips’ are ‘discovered’ early on and Anakin leads the effort to ensure that they are phased out and removed immediately. This consists of reminding every Jedi who even hesitates about how how he as a child slave had some experience with control chips and unless you want to take a leaf out of the hutts books lets start doing brain surgery chop chop mmmkay?
(This isn’t to say that Vader doesn’t still a twinge of shame at acknowledging his slave roots. But it is eclipsed by the burning guilt that he knowingly acted as slave master to his troops for decades after Sideous wiped their minds. He tried to rationalize it to himself, after all he didn’t immediately understand what Order 66 had done to the troopers. But while the morality of murder was more of an intellectual concern than a personal one, treating people as things...)
The Kamonions are a little harder to budge, referencing contracts that they refuse to allow the Jedi to see
Finally Vader snuck into the Chief Medical Scientist’s home while she was sleeping and straight-up threatened to murder her and burn down her lab. At the risk of losing her life’s work, Nala Se complied.
Vader left with the final threat that in the event that Darth Tyranus caught wind and activated Order 66 prematurely, he would kill 100 Kamonians for every Jedi felled by troopers. Shaak Ti was pleased by the cloners sudden change of heart. Tyrannus, and by extension, Sideous, are in the dark.
Obi-Wan frequently publicly confronts Palpatine about the troops citizen status, urging him make use of his emergency powers to grant them citizenship and full pay, with the option to leave the army should they so wish.
Anakin manages to play off his avoidance of the Chancellor as disappointment in his perceived lack of dedication to anti-slavery efforts
Finally Palpatine gives in- regardless of what happens next, the troops will be looked after.
With 2/3rds of the troopers dechipped, Vaderkin is eager to kill Sideous again, but after several intense screaming matches and sparring sessions, the time travelers come to the agreement that even if they succeed in their duel, with things as they were, the perception of the Jedi military coop would cause mass civil unrest. The scattered sith apprentices, while individually weak, were more than capable of magnifying that fear and anger until the galaxy breaks. Darth Sideous wanted to ensure that if he couldn’t have the galaxy, no one would.
(Vader knows this. Sideous enjoyed monologuing, and much of his plotting couldn’t be safely bragged about until after he had decisively won, leaving Vader as the unwilling receptacle for years of pent-up rants and self-satisfied gloats about the inevitability of his victory)

A Room of One’s Own: A Space to Write
Tumblr media
John Collier Jr. - Mary Mutz writing to a boyfriend in the United States Army
On the Mutz ranch in Moreno Valley, Colfax County, New Mexico, 1943
This photograph is part of The American Image: The Photographs of John Collier Jr. online exhibit developed by the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology at the University of New Mexico.
"A woman must have money and a room of her own, if she is to write fiction.” ― Virginia Woolf, ‘A Room of One’s Own’, 1929.
In 1929, Virginia Woolf, aptly acknowledged the struggle of many a writer, the need for a personal space; and as I typed up the final chapters of my novel’s final written draft last weekend I found myself daydreaming about my dream writing space: ‘A Room of One’s Own’, a place just for me, my laptop and my creativity.
Tumblr media
But how does a writer with a slight streak of vintage madness flowing through her veins create such a space? Well with my birthday coming up this month and the editing stages of my book starting to take shape, I began looking into a few ways I might look to transform my desk to inspire future writings and creative projects.
INK  Although a lot of my work is digital both for time, and saving paper where possible, when I was younger I used to love the idea of writing in an unusual, carefree writing style. Perhaps taking inspiration from the mystical green handwriting that arrived to Harry Potter when he got his acceptance letter from Hogwarts.
Tumblr media
As such I was delighted when I stumbled upon a unique Canadian project named Ferris Wheel Press who specialise in creating beautifully packaged and designed fountain pen inks - including some beautiful green, and peacock shades as well as hints of orange marmalade, rose pink and delicate tanzanite blue. All of which I’m itching to try - and would love to sign my books with at least one of these timeless, elegant hues.
Tumblr media
PENS Keeping up with the theme of beautiful stationery I would love to have a collection of decorative, but still functional pens.  In the past, at school I used to enjoy creating worlds and poetry with fountain pens, which always seemed to have more personality and warmth that the harsh, plastic biros we had to use for exams, perhaps because they have a richer tone and colour that drips onto the page.
Tumblr media
That said I’d also like some pretty ballpoints, for the every day squiggles, with their smooth lines and functonality, like this inexpensive set from WHSmiths, who also have a range of fountain pens.
Tumblr media
WRITING PAPERS Although it is sometimes daunting to write something new on a fresh, clean page, the payoff is also equally exciting as my written worlds start to come together.
Prior to the 2020 Lockdown, I often found myself sitting down with a notebook that I could easily slip back into my handbag and jot down a few observances from people watching or scenes and images as they enter my head. As such, I would like my desk to be filled with pretty pices of stationery:- like notebooks and notecards, journals and even coloured envelopes. Little cards I could send to friends to observe snapshots of the world without just relying on social media, and I’m hoping some point to get back into letter writing and postcards. Some brands I love for these include: Papier, Papersmiths and Moleskine with special attention towards Clairefontaine. Traditionally speaking Vellum based papers are more attractive for those using inks and watercolours paints but I would also recomend a cruelty free alternative like Terraskin or  Yupo paper which are made out of synthetics and minerals. Notebooks made in this style tend to be plainer but for that some Decoupage wrap or crafting can easily help your journals and letters have more personal identity.
Tumblr media
ODDS AND ENDS As I love letter writing and scrapbooking as much as I do writing itself, my desk would be filled with postage stamps, and other curios that I find useful such as brightly coloured and decorative Washi tape which can be found in most craft stores. A letter opener and magnifing glass, maybe a writing box in which to store recieved and treasured corispondences from loved ones and friends. Fragments of poetry or positive mantra quotes to inspire me and a decorative coaster to place my cups of tea or hot chocolate to keep myself going in harder bouts of work. More than half a dozen erasers and sharpeners and half sharpened pencils. I’d love to have a few books on publishing and other writing resources near me, and ample space to charge and rest my laptop as I type.
Tumblr media
Ultimately my desk would continue to be an expression of myself and my work, hopefully well lit by a good lamp in the twilight hours or natural light during the day. I love the appeal of a warm wooden desk and comfy teal chair in which to spend many an inspired hour, allowing my dreams to guide my processes.
But for now, I’ll settle for a quiet bedroom listening to the bird song in the morning, my electric fan’s whir during these hotter, summer months and a stable internet connection to share my musings with the world.
And who knows, maybe when my novel is published I can start to collect a few more of these things and my desk or at least my fictions will be preserved and treasured in the literary halls, just as Ms Woolf herself, 92 years ago, in a ‘Room of Her Own’.
Tumblr media
Have a beautiful day x.

Zutara Week Day 4 - Celestial: Under The Southern Lights
We’re in the middle of Zutara Week and I’m sure you’ve all realized I’m incredibly soft for these two. I just had to make a proposal one-shot, I had to. This took me forever to write because I kept going all over the nitty-gritty details. So I really hope you enjoy this. Also on AO3.
Title: Under The Southern Lights
Rating: G
Summary:  Zuko had it all planned. The location, the time of the day, the - sort of- speech, the jewel… He had been waiting for months to do it. Now, he only had to round up the courage to ask the big question.
Fire Lord Zuko had it all planned. The nerve-racking question was soon to be asked. His strategy excited him, made him feel like a jittery child waiting for their birthday present. Only this time, he was the one gifting something. Proposing something.
He had been wanting to ask her for quite a while already, but the need to make it just perfect had gotten the best of him. Katara was the love of his life, he wasn’t about to propose to her without making sure every part of the moment was flawless.
That’s why as soon as the invitation to the opening ceremony of the Southern Water Tribe Waterbending Academy had come along, an idea started to take shape into his mind. Their first kiss had been at the South Pole, during one of his conveniently frequent diplomatic trips down there. So it only seemed fitting to pop the question on that same spot.
Even more, he had done the math, and they would be just in time to catch a perfect view of the Southern Lights. He could already imagine the two of them under the color painted sky. Yes, it would be perfect. It had to be.
Choosing what to propose with hadn’t been all that difficult as well. He wouldn’t get her a necklace, he knew how much she loved her mother’s one. No, instead, a bracelet would do the trick. He had already taken care of that too.
The betrothal bracelet would have a velvet ribbon with an intricate burgundy and royal blue pattern that interlaced the two colors into each other - Zuko was very proud of that symbolic detail. It would also feature a blue smelt quartz to which he had carved the emblem of the Fire Nation. Carving hadn’t been easy but, with enough practice and a lot of critique from Uncle Iroh, he had managed to get it right.
A set date for the proposal, a wonderful bracelet, the most breathtaking scenario possible… The plan was foolproof, right?
The only detail was, Zuko felt terrified of not knowing what to say when it came to it. What if his speech wasn’t romantic enough or he mumbled too much? Because he knew, he had seen it in action, Katara had the magnific ability to take his breath away. And being out of breath when you’re trying to ask someone to marry you it’s not the most ideal of situations.
But Zuko had practiced what to say. He had taken note of every worthy romantic thought that came to his mind, marking his love in more than one piece of paper. It looked kind of funny though, all those words, all those potential sentences, all those truths written down. Still, it took him forever to figure out what the best speech would be.
Something about destiny, a run-through of just how well they worked together, a brief mention of how they had started from scratch - literal scratch feelings wise, after all, they had actually been enemies for months - all about how they understood each other better than anyone, and, of course, how much he had grown to love her.
Slowly but surely, it had hit him alongside that fatal lightning bolt - yes, as ironic as it sounded like - just how much she meant to him. Feeling the electricity running through him, fighting for his life, Zuko had realized he loved her. Their love had flourished during the following year, being all about baby steps and timid demonstrations of affection, until that first kiss. That incredibly sweet first kiss at the South Pole, where he had finally rounded up the courage to confess his feelings. Luckily for him, she felt the same way. And so their story had begun.
Now, it was crazy to think that, five years later, he was about to ask Katara to be his wife - his companion, his lifelong partner, his heart living in another body somehow. He had been planning it for months, wanting it for years. Agni, he had always known she was the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.
Needless to say, the possibility of Katara declining his proposal haunted him. It consumed every bit of his soul, giving him a headache whenever the thought crossed his mind. He had even asked his Uncle for advice, in fear of all that planning being in vain. Of course, the old man had reassured him he had nothing to worry about.
“Zuko, I’ve seen you two together. I’ve noticed your connection before you even realized it yourselves. She won’t say ‘no’. I know it, you know it, everyone who’s familiar with you two knows it,” he had said, a reassuring smile spread across his face. “I’m happy for you, nephew. Your plan seems like a solid one, Katara will love it.”
And with his Uncle words serving almost as a mantra to him, Zuko had eased into the moment. He had the place, the time, the bracelet, his speech all planned out, and a hell of a lot of love for the woman he was proposing to.
As soon as he left for the South Pole, his plan would be set into motion.
———
Arriving at the Southern Water Tribe had been easy enough, with Katara waiting for him at the harbor. Seeing her always put a smile on his face. The way her eyes widened as they met his gaze, the warm embrace he would dive right into, her soft giggling as he told her - for the millionth time - just how much he had missed her. It was those moments he longed for. Those little fragments of time when nothing else mattered but the two of them. He wanted them to last forever.
She had told him all about the Waterbending Academy, explaining to him how Master Pakku had taken up the task to become director of the school. She had also remarked her efforts to ensure complete gender neutrality in the teaching. The ceremony wouldn’t be taking place until the next couple of days, allowing them some extra time to spend together before craziness strikes.
She looks happy, Zuko thought as he listened to her. Agni, I can only hope the same happiness is reflected in her eyes after I ask her.
Her family had also been welcoming, as usual. They had gotten used to his visits to the tribe, though he was sure Kanna wasn’t a big fan of how much Ambassador Katara had been traveling since they became a couple. Hakoda was never out of political affairs to discuss with him, clearly glad to have the Fire Lord so eager to help all the time. And Sokka… His best friend always threw a little fest when he visited. Constantly busy running the tribe alongside his dad and traveling to see Suki, he still made time for him. Being in a relationship with Katara had only brought them closer. And it had given Sokka some good opportunities to make fun of him. Which, of course, he loved.
Still, Zuko felt uneasy, eager to carry on with his plan. During lunch, he had zoned out almost completely, making Katara wonder if something had happened back home. He had managed to blame it on the tiredness from his trip down there, claiming everything was perfectly fine.
And things were fine, but not normal. Not normal at all. How could they be? He was about to ask the most crucial question of his life. Agni, he crossed his heart and hoped for the best.
Holding onto the little box that contained the bracelet, he knew. He was ready. It was time to carry on with his plan. Tonight is the night. It will be perfect.
———
The quietness of the night had taken over the Southern Water Tribe. All that echoed was the sound of ocean waves crashing into the shore. Everyone else had probably been asleep for hours. But Zuko was awake. Wide awake.
He had waited for hours. Alone in his hut - because Agni forbids Chief Hakoda would be onboard with him staying with Katara at that stage of their relationship - he had gone over every single detail a million times. His heart pounded in his chest, racing even faster than the first time he had said ‘I love you’ to her. With each beat, Zuko mentally repeated his lines. Yes, he had lines. Well thought and kind of poetic lines. He had everything planned. He only hoped he would be able to remember what to say once he was moments away from pleading her to spend the rest of their lives together.
Alright, I think it’s time, he thought as he unwrapped his body from a pile of blankets. Considering his firebending prevented him from getting cold, he must’ve been on the verge of a nervous breakdown to be longing for the heat that badly. It didn’t matter though, as soon as put on his coat an unexpected rush of confidence took over him.
Yes, this is it. I’m finally going to ask her. A tender smile spread across his face as he made sure the little burgundy box with the bracelet was safely secured in his right pocket.
He opened the door of his hut, stepping into the darkness of the night. The coldness of the outside took him by surprise.
Good thing he had grabbed a pair of heavy-duty blankets. He wouldn’t want Katara to be freezing during such a special moment. No, it was alright, she was used to the cold, and the blankets would help. If anything failed, he could always tug her under his arms - firebending had proven to have its perks down there at the Pole - and keep her warm. Yeah, that sounded romantic, it would work.
Luckily for him, the walk to Katara’s hut wasn’t a long one at all. It was more of a two-step kinda deal. Pretty convenient if you asked him.
Zuko stood at the entrance, with a racing heart and all the lovely doodle jitters. He couldn’t believe he was finally doing this. After months of rehearsing in his room back home, brainstorming with Iroh, and stressing over the tiniest details, the time had come.
He knocked on the door, a part of him hoping she wouldn’t be too tired. No, she wouldn’t. She was a moon riser after all. Why was he doubting everything he had planned, all of the sudden? No, he couldn’t let his nerves get the best of him. “Katara,” he whispered. “It’s me.”
A response didn’t take long to come from inside the hut.
“Zuko?” Her voice showed a strain of sleepiness, but she sounded attentive enough. “Come in, dork.”
Thank Agni, she’s awake.
As soon as he went through the door, he was met with the tenderest of blue eyes.
Katara was sitting cross-legged, still wrapped into her covers. Messy hair, amused expression, and a raised brow.
“What are you doing here in the middle of the night?” she asked. “Not even here for a day and already wanting to sneak around?” A playful smirk framed her face.
Oh, she’s very awake then. One second and she’s already making fun of me. Spirits, I love this woman.
He showed off the pair of blankets to her, trying to conceal the nervous grin that threatened to take over his face.
“Um, actually,” he mumbled. “I had something else in mind. How do you feel about coming outside with me for a while?”
And off they went, with a nervous Zuko leading the way. Katara had rapidly been onboard with the little nighttime excursion. After all, it had always been their thing to go on nocturnal walks or rush to catch every sunset at the South Pole. But most importantly… The plan was working!
Walking for a few minutes, he finally stopped at the top of a little hill. Right in the middle of the snow valley. The Southern Lights were already visible up in the sky.
“I see what you’re doing, someone’s nostalgic of our first kiss,” Katara teased, twirling around the snowy ground.
“Um, yeah, I mean, it was pretty amazing.” Great, the mumbling had already started and he wasn’t even saying his speech.
“So, are you going to tell me what’s up with you today? You’ve been acting weird all day.”
Darn it. He had tried so hard not to let his jitters show. But there they were. It was time to make his move.
“I’m fine, I promise,” he managed to say. “Why don’t we sit down?”
Once they were cuddled up amidst the blankets and the snow, Zuko allowed himself to breathe. To soak into the moment.
Above them was a dazzling dance of green, blue, white, purple, and red light in the night sky. Exactly as he had pictured it. Perfect scenery, checked. If only asking the big question could be as easy as staring at the celestial lights.
“You know,” Katara finally said, nestling her head at the creek of his neck, her fingers interlaced into his. “I’m glad you brought me here. It’s pretty romantic.”
Yes! That’s the stuff! If she considered it romantic, that meant he had done something right.
Now, it’s time.
“That’s what I was aiming for,” he mumbled. “Do you mind if I move over to face you for a second?”
Her blue eyes showed a bit of confusion, still, she complied. “Not at all.”
He straightened up, still holding onto her hand. She was smiling, silently waiting for whatever he had in store for her. Agni, she was beautiful. No offense to the aurora above them, but Katara was definitely a million times more mesmerizing than any dancing light in the sky.
Zuko cleared his throat, feeling his heart pounding inside his chest - every single beat - and his pulse racing like never before. He squeezed her hand, taking a deep breath before speaking.
“Katara,” Oh Agni, this is actually happening. “I think it’s safe to say that we were meant to be together. Considering all that we went through, fate kept bringing us into each other. We started as enemies, and look at us now. We make all the sense in the world, even if we are kind of opposites. We are two sides of the same coin, we complement each other perfectly. You’re a part of me I never knew was missing, until I almost lost you. You mean everything to me.”
He blinked, nervously battling his eyelashes. A lump of his throat threatened to mess with his speech at the memory of how the light of his life had almost dimmed the day of the Agni Kai. No, it was not the time to feel sorry for the past. This night was all about moving forward. Next to her.
“I’ve spent all my life,” he continued. “Chasing after things that were never going to make me happy, never going to bring me peace. But you, Katara, you brought all the light in the world into my life. You make me happy, you bring out the best in me. I think we were always meant to cross paths, nothing that happened between us was accidental. It was all for a reason, I’m sure of it know. Despite all my mistakes, all those times I’ve stumbled along the way, all of that led me to you. And you to me. That is something I would never want to undo.”
Her eyes had become watery, her fingers were brushing his skin as she smiled at him. It seemed like his speech had taken her by surprise.
“Zuko,” Katara said. “That’s… I love you.”
“And I love you too,” he replied, eager to blurt out the question once and for all. “That’s why I want to be with you for the rest of my life. You’ve become the voice in my head, leading every step of the way, advising me what to do all day long. I can’t shut it up, and I don’t ever want to. In fact, I’m hoping to have forever to spend with you.”
Zuko reached into his pocket with his free hand - luckily for him, it was his right one - and grasped the burgundy box he had been clinging onto for months. With a quick move, he opened the lid, revealing the betrothal bracelet he had made for her.
His eyes met hers, glistening with the reflection of the Southern Lights above them. The skies of the night were alive with those lights, like a thrilling flame.
“Katara, will you marry me?”
There it went. He did it, he had popped the question without having a nervous breakdown in the middle. Incredible. His plan had turned out to be perfect.
Wait. For it to be perfect, Katara had to say yes.
Tears of happiness were streaming down her face. “Yes, Zuko.” Katara was nodding excitedly. “Spirits, of course, my answer is yes!” she giggled amidst the tears.
And Zuko felt his eyes getting watery too, a rush of relief flooding right through him - accompanied by the sweetest of tears. Yes, she said ‘yes’. He felt like the luckiest man alive.
She threw herself into his arms, kissing every last bit of his face. He carefully put down the burgundy box as he ran his fingers through her hair. His lips met hers into a familiar embrace, only now there was something new to it. They were going to get married. They were going to spend the rest of their lives together. And that was perfect.
For a timeless instant, they stayed there, holding onto each other. Savoring the happiness of the moment. But neither of them had forgotten about the little burgundy box.
“You like it?” he asked, taking the delicate bracelet of its casing to show it to her. “My carving could be better, but I think it turned out alright.”
The blue quartz glittered with the celestial lights, all the different colors reflecting into its surface. The Fire Nation emblem, carved into a water blue stone. A ribbon that intertwined both of their cultures, together. Above them, a painting of amber, rose, opal, and gold hues. It swept the sky, flickering, dimming, flashing in the presence of their love.
“I know it’s not a betrothal necklace,” he continued. “But I know how much your mother’s means to you. I wanted to give you something different, so you didn’t have to stop wearing hers... I carved the emblem of the Fire Nation onto the blue quartz, and the ribbon has our colors interlaced… Kind of like us, opposites but together. Stronger together. I wanted it to be something special. Like you.”
Tears started to form back into her eyes. “It’s perfect. This is all perfect, Zuko. I love it, I love you.” Katara planted another kiss on his lips. “Would you?” she asked, extending her left wrist up to him.
“Of course.” He grabbed the bracelet, brushing his fingers through the stone.
His hands were trembling, his whole body was shuddering with excitement. He placed the jewel on top of her wrist, with tremendous care. He felt her skin, soft and warm, and he realized Katara was also trembling. He noticed her eyes glued to his as he made sure the clasps were tied together. Finally, the bracelet was around her wrist, holding onto her like a promise. Their promise.
“There,” Zuko whispered. “I’m so glad it fits,” he chuckled as he placed a soft kiss on the back of her hand.
Katara brushed her fingers against the pendant, eyes still watery and a bright smile tattooed on her face. Then her hands moved up to his face, softly cupping his cheeks. She pressed her forehead onto his, breathing heavily.
“I love you,” she said, caressing his skin. “And you’re right, we were meant to happen. I hope to have forever to spend with you, too.”
“Forever does sound good, huh?”
Zuko kissed her, giving away into the moment. That moment. All those months of planning, all those years of loving her. It had all led him to that exact spot - the woman he loved, his future wife, letting out tears of happiness as they kissed. His plan had been more than perfect, it had been so uniquely them that he found himself fighting back the tears once again.
That’s when he knew it. In the middle of the night, under the Southern Lights, and with Katara nestled into his arms, Zuko knew. Looking back, he knew exactly why it had all happened. It was her, it had always been her. And now, it would be them.
----- I hope you enjoyed this! I wanted to jump on this trope and give it my own little twist with the Southern Lights scenario. Thank you so much for reading! Feedback is always really appreciated <3  @zutaraweek

Forbidden (Padmé Amidala x Reader)
Request: How are u? i was thinking maybe you can do one request with Padmé? i just love her character and I’m sure you can make it fit perfectly, this was my idea... reader is a Jedi so their relationship is a secret, they hideaway on Naboo and have a discussion because of that but they kiss and say I love you to each other, sorry if is so long): Btw, i really really love everything you write!!
Words: 1,282
A/N: THE PREQUELS BUT GAY!! Sorry that's basically what came to my mind. This is my first time writing Padme so be kind with me, also let me know what you think and if you'd like to see more Padme around.
Tumblr media
She was already waiting for you, leaning on the stone railing glancing at the magnific landscape, the crystal blue water mixed with the light and dark green from the trees, Naboo was such a beautiful place, but not as beauty as the girl that used to be queen.
You stayed a bit away from her, just enjoying the view of her relax face, Padmé was certainly a beautiful lady, the most beautiful you had ever met if you were honest, her soft brown hair was moving softly with the air letting you observe her delicate face. She noticed your presence and turned her head to met you, a smile across her lips.
“My lady” you said with a small nod in form of salute, Padmé only laughed a bit as she walked towards you.
“You don’t need to call me that, Y/N” she told you as she greeted you in her arms.
“I know, but I just like how that words sound” you said with a grin on your face before hugging her skinny figure. “I missed you, Padmé” you murmured close to her silk skin.
“So did I, but you’re here now” she said. “We should go inside” She took your hand on hers, her touch was delicate compared with your rough hands, marks of the hard Jedi training. You let her guide you inside the palace-like house you used to met, your hiding spot in the galaxy, where the rules could be broken and you two could be together.
You sat down in an elegant couch with golden designs, everything was so fancy there, the furniture, the food, the extravagant dresses Padmé wore and you were still trying to get use to that, compared with your life this was a lot, starting with the simple clothing you had.
Padmé stared at you for a few seconds, you knew that face, she was searching for the right words to start a difficult sentence. Emotions was something she couldn’t hide, not to you at least, you knew this woman.
“What is it?” you said, trying your best to help her. She sighed.
“I wish this were easy to say” she softly said, making your body tensed as slowly filled with worry. “I’m concern about this, about us” she told you, her words not with the usual confidence. This was a talk you were mean to have a long time ago, when your relationship started but you were hoping not to have.
“It’s not the ideal scenario, I know” you told her “But we’ve done it work and we still can”
“It’s forbidden, Y/N” she said with pain on her words. “You’re a Jedi, this is not allowed”
“I know”
“No, you don’t have an idea” she said “How hard it is to see you in public and knowing that I can’t hold your hand or kiss you. I can’t tell anyone about you”
“I feel the same way, you know it, Padmé” It was true, this secret was too painful, it gave you so much joy to your life and at the same time a big pain in the heart every time you weren’t with her, even worse when she was in the same room as you and you just couldn’t tell her how much she meant to you.
“But i just can be like this with you anymore, Y/N” she said as her voice started to crack, a wave of pain filled your body. But there was something else than suffer on her voice, her words didn’t felt real, she was hiding something you could tell by the sound of her voice.
“This is not correct” she said getting up of the couch shaking her head. “A senator and a Jedi, this is just wrong. And if someone finds out” she looked down at you “Oh, Y/N, what could they do to you”
“Who?” you said as the pieces of the puzzle settled and let you see the whole picture, she was scared of someone, you needed to know who so you could protect her.
Padme just stayed in silence in the room, looking at the ground. She clear her throat before raising her voice again.
“I’m afraid Anakin could have noticed” she said.
“Skywalker?” you asked surprised, the young apprentice. You had seen him sometimes, he had a strong power but he had a long way to go before he could become a master.
“He had been inside my head, I fear he’ll tell somebody” she said. Well that explained a lot of things. Why he looked at you so much and asked about the consequences of breaking the Jedi code.
And the way he behaved everytime Padme and you were close, even when you both tried your best to hide the feelings for each other.
He knew.
Slowly you raised up and walked to her, holding her body in your arms as she rested her head on your shoulder starting to sob a little bit, you ran your hand through her back comforting her.
“Hey, we’ll be fine, love” you murmured, this relationship with this lady was the best thing that had happened to you, she was a kind soul but still she wasn’t afraid of fight, no she was more than willing to take a blaster and defend what she believed in, that was the woman sobbing in your arms.
“I don’t want to lose you, Y/N” she whispered “But I don’t want you to left the Jedi order neither, I could never do that”
“That won’t happen, Padme. Breath” you told her.
The Jedis said love was a weakness, something that confused your mind, always fearing to lose that special someone, but you never really believed that, maybe because you hadn’t really loved someone as much as you loved Padme, love was like a boost, love was what gave a meaning to your life, a reason to fight and a reason to have mercy.
“I’ll protect you” You told her as she finally looked at you in the eyes, some tears dropped out of her eyes but you cleaned them off carefully “I love you” you whispered afraid that someone else could heard you, but no, you didn’t want to be afraid. “I love you, Padme.” you told her with a more confident tone in your voice, the words tasted so sweet on your lips.
Padme’s face lighted up as a beautiful smile spread across her face as her amber eyes flicked like the night sky full of stars. She placed her hand on the back of your neck and pulled you into a soft kiss, a really meanful kiss where you could felt the affection for you and though this wasn’t the first time you kissed, it felt like the very first time.
"I love you too, Y/N" were her first words as the kiss ended, words that made your heart raced its beat.
"We are going to figure this out" you told her "I don't care if it's forbidden, you're a rule that I'm willing to break" you said meaning every word.
"Even if it is risky?" Asked Padme
"You're worth the risk, sweetheart" you told her planting a kiss on her lips.
No matter what happened in the future you had her and she had you to protect each other and to love each other even if that mean went against some rules, you would fight for her if necessary and you knew she would do the same for you.
But for now you just stayed there holding the girl you love close to you, feeling your hearts beating as one, hoping you could stay like that forever.

Omg i never knew that is your ao3 account wtf those Ten fics are my absolute favourite on that platform! Like "a silly game" gives me life!!!! Now that i've found you here, can i request a ten x reader where they are in an established relationship and travelling with donna and she's really happy for them but is still the sassy woman we know and love. Idk i was thinking about 48 and 21 from the number list lol. Also if you could put there some kisses too you would really make my day 💕💕💕
Oh my gosh, I’m so glad you like them!! And I had so much fun writing this!! Now that my roommate is starting to watch Doctor Who she’s been kind of my proofreader all the way through, and I have loved every second of it. It’s nice to get reader input while I’m writing, I’ve never had that before 😅 Anyway, thanks for requesting this, I enjoyed myself! Hope you have a lovely day anon! ♥️
48: “You gotta stop doing that.” “What?” “Saying things that make me wanna kiss you.”
21: “Can you please go be stupid somewhere that’s away from me?”
Tumblr media
Donna was beaming. She was following close behind you and the Doctor in a sort of alien bazaar watching how cute the two of you were being. Holding hands, pulling each other this way and that to look at something cool, and stolen glances that didn’t have to be hidden anymore. You and the Doctor had officially been together for a few weeks now, and Donna couldn’t remember a time when she saw the Doctor happier. Right now you were fiddling with some kind of gadget you had found at a stand the Doctor insisted on looking at to satisfy his need to take apart and mess with devices of his own.
“What’re you up to?” The Doctor asked as he walked up behind you.
“Trying to figure this out,” you stated, continuing to rotate the different pieces.
“Oh? How do you know you’re doing it right?”
“Well, it looks like a bunch of Rubix cubes that got stuck together, so I figure it’s probably not too different.” The Doctor chuckled and leaned down, head on your shoulders and arms wrapped around your middle.
“How long have you been at it then?”
“Since we got here … “ you trailed off, deep in concentration. You felt another giggle shake his body. “What? I think I’m doing good!”
“You are, just … here love, let me show you something,” he smiled. He ran his hands up your arms until he took the object from your hands. With a few precise movements, including some that definitely did not apply to a regular Rubix cube, the Doctor had solved the puzzle within a matter of moments.
“Okay, you don’t have to show off,” you rolled your eyes, turning to look at him.
“No no no, keep watching,” he muttered softly. You turned back to the object to find that it had a faint glow coming through the cracks. You watched in awe as it open to reveal a small cavity in the center that held a little wooden piece. The Doctor put the puzzle back in your hands, resting one hand over yours and taking the wood piece in his other.
“This is a Diskoid Hypertracer; it’s used to force children into sitting down and figuring out how to solve the puzzle, and when they do they get the reward inside,” he explained, gesturing to the wooden piece. “It’s supposed to work their intelligence. Parents can put anything they want in the center, and then when they’re done …” The Doctor closed the game, having put the wooden piece back into the center, and you watched as the whole thing gave off a light glow before revealing it had reset itself. “Then the child has a brand new puzzle to solve.”
“Okay, this is so much better than a Rubix cube,” you mumbled, fiddling with the pieces again. This time the Doctor gave a hearty laugh before planting a kiss on your cheek and watching you play with the device for a few more minutes.
“Of course you two are sitting around at a tech store, I swear he’s converted you into a science geek,” Donna mused as she approached the two of you. You giggled, the Doctor rolling his eyes and standing up to examine the rest of the table.
“Nah I just found a Rubix cube,” you explained, showing her the puzzle you were solving. As Donna began moving a few of the pieces, the Doctor gasped in surprise.
“Noooo, I haven’t seen one of these in ages!” The two of you turned to see the Doctor holding up a small, thin device in his hands. You sidled up next to him to take a closer look at it. “It’s a Systematic Hologram Magnification Matrix, it produces these little holograms out of the end that you humans are always so fascinated with,” he finished, beaming. You smiled and wrapped your arms around his middle, looking up at him.
“You gotta stop doing that.”
“What?” He asked, brows furrowed in confusion.
“Saying things that make me wanna kiss you.” Almost instantaneously he donned a smile, humming happily in response. He leaned down to meet your lips in a sweet kiss, allowing himself to get lost in the moment and forget about the device in his hands. He still wasn’t used to getting to kiss you whenever he wanted for no reason at all, and he hoped that he never would.
“Oi, can you please go be stupid somewhere that’s away from me? Honestly, I can’t take you two anywhere,” Donna sassed, bringing the two of you out of your daze. The Doctor did his best to compose himself before he turned back to the gadget he still had in his hands.
“Oh quit your moaning, just let me turn it on.” The Doctor began examining it closer, giving you a good view of it as well. The more he kept looking at it, the more you began to wonder if what you saw was true. “If I can just find the right switch…”
“Doctor-”
“Hold on I think I’ve got it,” he muttered stubbornly, looking at the same part of the device for the third time. You reached around his large hands to gently press down the button on the top. Sure enough, out of the other end came a small tip that was covered in ink. Donna tried her best to contain her laughter, which she didn’t do a great job at.
“It’s just a pen, love,” you muttered sweetly, trying very hard to keep from giggling. The Doctor’s face fell, pushing out his bottom lip out and furrowing his brows. His pouty face did it for you, reducing you to nothing but giggles and Donna already having lost it, which did not make the situation any better for the time lord.
“Well it’s got no business being here; who puts a pen next to a Diskoid Hypertracer?” he grumbled, dropping the pen back onto the table. He laced his fingers with yours and led you back down the street, clearly wanting nothing more to do with the little gadget shop. Having walked the entire market, the Doctor was happy to happen upon his TARDIS again and go somewhere entirely new. Somewhere he wouldn’t mistake a pen for something it wasn’t.
He shrugged off his coat and went directly to his console, contemplating where exactly to go next when he looked over at you and Donna having a small chat back at the front of the TARDIS. Something you had said made Donna laugh, and it brought that beautiful, radiant smile to your cheeks, one that the Doctor was sure could make the sun shine through even the grayest, gloomiest London sky. Donna put a hand on your shoulder before turning to leave the console room. When the Doctor realized you were moving to come his way, he quickly averted his eyes back to the monitor. You approached him slowly, coming to sit on the edge of the TARDIS console beside him.
“Hey there,” you said sweetly after a few moments. The Doctor turned to look at you, causing him to smile softly. He didn’t say anything, instead sliding his hand over slightly so that his fingers overlapped yours. “I’m sorry I laughed at you for the … the pen thing,” you stated, trying not to laugh again. The Doctor gave a light chuckle, and you deemed it safe to add: “It was pretty funny, you know you would have done the same to me.”
“I would not!” The Doctor lied. He knew he absolutely would have, he’d done it countless times before.
“Okay, if that makes you feel better,” you laughed. The Doctor stood upright and moved to stand in front of you, situating himself between your legs. With one hand at your waist, he tucked a piece of hair behind your ear and took a moment to pause. He took in every little detail of your face, memorizing every feature and relishing in how you looked at him as if he was the one who put the stars in the sky.
The Doctor leaned down to press his lips against yours, feeling your hands move up his chest to sit around his neck, smiling to himself when you started to play with the hair at the nape of his neck. His two hearts started beating faster as your soft lips moved against his so fluidly, making the sweetest little sounds as he kissed you like he’d wanted to all day.
“How long, do you think, until Donna walks in and tells us off?” he asked as you paused for air, punctuating his question with chaste kisses on the corner of your mouth. You giggled almost mischievously.
“I told her not too.” The Doctor stopped his affection and moved back to look at you properly, an eyebrow raised in confusion. “I may have asked her for some time alone so that I could put an end to your pouting,” you said with a playful smirk.
“I haven’t been pouty since we came back into the TARDIS, I don’t know what you’re on about,” he defended.
“Right, okay, but Donna’s gonna stay out of the way until I give her the all clear.” You brought one hand down and started toying with the tie around his neck. The Doctor swallowed, his eyes following your slender fingers.
“Well, in that case, I think I’m still in quite a mood,” he sighed with a tilt of his head. You hummed in satisfaction, gripping his tie and pulling him back down towards you.

Sunburst - S.R (9/10)
Tumblr media
Summary: After years of solitude, you sought out the color of life – you just didn’t think it would end up like this. (Enhanced!Reader/Steve Rogers).
Prompt: “I think I just asked out on a date.”
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8 | Masterlist
A/N: This is for @captain-ariel-barnes writing challenge. this isn’t the best chapter, but i hope you enjoy it.
Feedback is always appreciated.
The date doesn’t happen as soon as you thought it would -- there are things to talk about, tests you have to take, and Steve already had a trip set to visit one Bucky Barnes in Wakanda. You try your best to handle everything on your own, but you needed extra support when you entered the lab. You got cold sweats and you barely ate at times, or if you did you threw it all up sometime afterwards. Bruce and Mr. Stark --with cautious swirls of red and green-- tried to make your experience as easy as possible (with Natasha or Wanda being at your side from time to time) and while you tried not to show any fear, your body still remembered the trauma.
You had seen your own color darken into a muted grayish-pink, as it slithered in the corner of your eyes every so often and while you enjoyed dark colors more often, it wasn’t the exact shade --really not the right color-- that you wanted to see at the moment.
“So, have you felt any other changes since being able to start feelings other people’s emotions?” Bruce asks, as you think for a moment. His green pops into what reminds you of what the traffic signal might look like as a child, his center brightens as well and it easily tells you that he loves this type of thing -- scientific research and asking the big questions. It’s endearing in many ways.
Within the time that you had spent with both of them, Tony and Bruce had established that the limits of your powers were in seeing emotions through colors and now, since Rhodey, you could feel them whenever you touched a person or if someone touched you. Your limitation was with humans only thus far, since you couldn’t really see a full spectrum of emotions when it came to anomalies like Thor and Vision. Transfer of emotions was also possibility, but it wasn’t something you were willing to cross if  ever due to your past. Your color dreams were still a work in progress.
“I think people with a more muted or darker color, might have more of a louder ring to me,” you explain from your seat in utter confusion, “Or something like that.”
“And who have you been feeling that with?” Bruce asks, “Did is happen during your incident with Col. Rhodes?”
“No, no,” you let out a sigh, remembering all the bubbling and nervous energy from a few days ago, plus how you were missing it dreadfully, “I felt it with Steve.”
"So, you finally got to meet that artist you been touting about for awhile now, huh?”
“It’s actually more than that…”
“What do ya mean? You asked her out or something?”
“More like the other way around.”
“Well damn, I’m gonna have to meet this gal.”
You locked yourself in your room one day, Steve still hasn’t come back, but you think you have enough to start on your project based on Steve Rogers -- you want to showcase the man you had seen behind the mantle though you aren’t to sure if you are ready for such an ordeal. Everyone knew Captain America, but there were few that knew the man that smelled like charcoal and whose hands were often smudge in pencil due to drawing too much. He wakes up early, but can’t stand coffee and takes a run to wake up instead though he still tends to sleep too late trying to still catch up everything he has missed.
He isn’t just some dark blue that you were afraid of all those months back. Steve Rogers is a man who feels too much, but hides for the sake of many things and people. He makes himself that sacrificial lamb for the things he believes in and while he has lost and suffered as a result, he doesn’t seem to regret it. You grab baby’s breath and cosmos. You has also asked Tony to get you some red brick dust from Brooklyn. White and red are splashed across the easel board, but not for the normal reasons that are associated with him.
Nurse white for the woman that raised him and red for just one too many fights in the back alleys back in Brooklyn, you smile at the result halfway completed. However, it had also sprung up another project in the long run, though that was more personal if anything else.
You look at the easel and smile, finding a good place to stop before placing the large blue plastic over it.
“Hey,” you turn up at the sound of a familiar voice, to see a light blue fluctuate like a drum, as you smile at him, “I’ve been looking for you.”
“Oh! Welcome back,” you smile as you get up from the floor as he nods, a nervous thrum in his blue sings to you, as you come closer to him.
“Is that?” he questions with an excitement in his tone of voice and you would like to believe that his eyes would sparkle for a brief moment, just like his color.
“Your art piece?” you add as he looks at you, “Yes, but it’s still a work in progress.”
“Could I get a--”
“No sneak peeks,” you smile, the nervous energy in the air making you go crazy with something that you aren’t quite sure what it might be just yet, but just being in Steve’s presence makes everything --the testing and sickness-- worth it, “Not even for Captain Rogers.”
You laugh, completely unaware on how his eyes are on you the whole time.
I theorize it’s an acceptance of your feelings and the situation. It could have been any of us, but Steve was there in the moment. You reached out of his touch, which might have made your powers more centralized on him. It might even be a magnification of your own feelings.
What does that even mean?
I think you know well enough.
“Are you all right?”
The voice drags you from your thoughts, as you turn to see Steve giving you a worried smile from across the table. You nod and go back to eating the Italian lunch that the blond at taken you to -- one of the best places you could eat in all of Brooklyn and within an area that was relatively quiet compared to everything else in the boroughs .
Two days after his return from Wakanda, Steve had finally made the decision to take you out around New York City and while you had spent some time in Central Park as a warm-up to walk around town, it was still a hectic experience walking around and seeing so many colors come at you. You had worn a long sleeve and gloves as a precaution to your new powers since you didn’t want to cause a scene in the middle of the street if someone pushed you around while walking, which happened more than once while you made it through Manhattan into Brooklyn. You stayed close to Steve, who was wearing a hoodie and cap ensemble, as you found yourself looking at the ground -something gray and dark- to keep you calm due to all the people crammed into the subway.
It was scary as it was exciting.
Steve had showed you places that were still around from when he lived in the area, the Italian place was one of them, and some other places that he had grown fond of since coming back to New York. The bakery and small art galleries where places you had enjoyed, but the paint shop had you grinning -- as flickering lights welcomed you home and you ran around like a child, trying to figure out what you wanted to buy as Steve just watched from afar.
He had been like that all morning, he showed you around but never pushed you as you looked at everything at your own pace. He made a comment or suggestion here and there, but you were still getting used to everything and he made sure to ask if you were feeling alright at the moment. You were grateful and it just made you think about your talk with Bruce.
I think you know well enough.
You weren’t sure what he meant and it was bothering.
“I’m fine, just observing,” you finally answer back, as Steve nods.
“If you’re okay, I have a more personal spot to visit,” he states with a shy smile.
You and Steve walk a few block down to a very familiar art gallery, though you had only really been in there once or twice. You look at Steve for a moment as he just shrugs. It should be closed at this time of day, but it seems that he had asked Martha for the key. He opens the door as the lights automatically turn on.
“This is one of my favorites places,” Steve starts off as he walks to the center of the room, as you glance at all the artworks with your name on it. Old paintings welcome you like familiar friends as you try not to cry a little, “The painter is one of my favorites since I stumbled to this place a while ago.”
“ Steve ,” you say softly as he just looks at you like you’re the only thing in the world. You think about it for a moment, as you take off your glove and motion for his hand.
“Are you sure?” it had been a question he was asking a lot, and while you were thankful -- you were completely sure.
“Yeah,” you answer back, as he takes your hand. It takes him awhile, as his eyes widen but the real magic is in his blue. It pops and bubbles like seafoam, as you can’t help the grin growing on your face, it reminds of Wanda and Vision or even Mr. Stark and Pepper.
As you walk slowly around the art gallery, with Steve’s hand in yours, he talks about what he liked about each piece -- you were slowly starting to realize what Bruce meant.
You had been fascinated by Steve’s color from the very beginning and now you were sure, you wanted to know more about him as a person -- to share your time like this when you could. It’s then you come to the realize it. You stop and Steve does as well, as he turns to look at you.
You might be falling for Steve Rogers, and it seems like he is as well.

Sacrifice| Sanami week 2018
Sanji was a man of big gestures. He couldn’t say “I love you” without twirling and almost bursting into song, he loved to prepare special snacks and beverage for the ladies without them even asking, and he would buy them presents whenever he had the chance. And the biggest gesture of them all was sacrifice.
Sanji read a lot as a kid, as a way to escape from the horrible world he had been born in. His favourite tales were always about a knight in shining armor, going to save the princess from the villain who had her prisoner. The prince who killed the dragon and received an ovation from the whole village, married his true love and lived happily ever after. He longed that. Over time, his fantasies faded away, but the essence still remained untouched: the wish of playing the hero, of being recognized for his actions and getting a reward. He never really got over that, and that’s what made him the hopeless romantic he was.
A bit later in his life, he learned that not every story has a happy ending, but by then, he had already made up his mind to be like those heroes of the stories: fearless, charming, gentle and elegant. And he realized that the ending didn’t really matter. In fact, he started to glorify these heroes that sacrificed themselves so that the rest could live happy. And when he learned that Zeff had sacrificed his leg so that he could live, it struck him like lightning. He could do that, too, in his own way. He could help that way.
So whenever he had the chance, he offered himself as a sacrifice. In Skypia, he thought he was about to die, but he knew that he would die happily knowing that his crew would live another day. And it brought him a sense of comfort only comparable to the realization, moments later, that he wasn’t dead. It wasn’t like he wanted to die (he didn’t, in fact, he believed he had so much to see left in the world), but he wouldn’t regret anything if he did.
According to Nami, Sanji had to be sick. The romantic virus had to have taken his body completely, because he clearly wasn’t thinking straight. At first she thought those were just one of his extravaganzas, and he never really thought about it seriously. But the more she knew about him, the more concerned she was. After his big sacrifice gesture in Zou, she really thought she would never see him again. And it drove her so crazy that she navigated to Whole Cake just to bring him back. Having seen him so willingly sacrificing his future with them to assure their lives had brought so many memories to her. Memories about her past, with her mother.
Nami understood his chivalry, and she understood why he was always open to sacrificing. But that didn’t stop her from being furious at him. How could he do that without feeling guilty? If he was gone, nothing would be the same. And the whole point of being a crew was having each other’s backs. Then why did he have to always act like it wasn’t such a big deal? He would be dead sooner than later, and he wouldn’t complete his dream. He behaved like a crazy person.
She had confronted him about it many times, but he never seemed to really listen. He was always willing to do anything for her, but somehow he could never do the most important thing: avoid putting himself in danger.
“But Nami-san, we’re always in danger” he said, lighting up his cigarette. “There’s no way of avoiding it.”
Nami sighed. She had the feeling it would be a useless talk, but still she had to try.
“That’s why I said as much as possible. Luffy is a risk seeker and we’re never going to be totally safe, but it wouldn’t kill you to not jump headfirst into the enemy. In fact, it will keep you alive.”
Sanji let out a laugh, but Nami wasn’t laughing. She was dead serious.
“It’s almost like you’re obsessed with this idea of sacrifice” she continued, glaring at him. She wanted him to notice her killer look, to know that she wasn’t joking. “Don’t you see it won’t lead you anywhere?”
With the last syllable, her anger faded away. And all it remained was sadness and fear. Fear that he wouldn’t come back one day. Fear that he would leave her forever. And as she began to breathe heavily, the panic started to grow. She tried to hold back her tears, but it was no use.
“How stupid can you be?!” she cried, covering her face with her hands. She had already failed to be strong, but she wouldn’t let him see her cry.
Sanji’s cigarette fell, and he became paralyzed. He had promised himself to not make her cry ever again, and yet he had done it. He felt terrible, his heart ached. He wanted to make things better, to assure her that everything was going to be alright, but he couldn’t. Deep down, he knew that if he did, he would be lying. So he just stood there, frozen, unable to say anything.
Nami turned her back on him, until her sobs stopped.
“You know what?” she said, wiping away her tears. She still wasn’t facing him. “I’m done.”
Her words felt like knives to Sanji, but he couldn’t blame her. He was a lost cause, and she had finally realized that. It was better that way, so he let her go. But if he was doing the right thing, then why did he feel so terrible about it?
“Way to handle the situation, you idiot.” Zoro muttered when Nami was far enough not to hear him.
Just what he needed. The stupid marimo commenting what just had happened. Could the day get any worse?
“Shut up” he said, stepping over the cigarette in the ground “I don’t take lessons from you.”
“Well maybe you should, so you would stop acting like a dick.”
“I’m not acting like a dick!”
His voice came an octave higher than he wished it would be, and everyone stared at him for a second.
“Yes, you are.” This time, it wasn’t Zoro who said it. It was a feminine voice. Robin didn’t tend to take a stance on his fights with the marimo, so he started to think that maybe Zoro was right. “For someone who cares a lot about feelings, you were being quite insensitive.”
Was that really true? He didn’t think he was acting like a jerk, he just was unable to promise her she wouldn’t do it again. Because he would, anytime.
“I…” he opened his mouth to speak, but he wasn’t sure of what to say. He wasn’t sure if he had to say anything at all, actually.
“Look, dumbass” Zoro punched him slightly in the arm “That witch was a fucking mess when you left, she couldn’t stop crying. I didn’t really care if you had gone for good or it was one of your stupidities, but she was so annoying that she convinced Luffy to go after you. And now you’re saying that you could do it again?”
“I didn’t say that.” he rushed to say “I would never say that.”
“Well you didn’t say the opposite either.” Robin intervened again. “We all get that your sense of duty makes you want to take the shot for all of us, but no one wants you to it. Specially her. Someone already did it once in her life and I’m pretty sure she still blames herself for it.”
He had never thought of it before, and the realization hit him harder than any punch he had ever received. He suddenly lost his balance, while thousands of thoughts filled his head, and had to hold on to the railing.
“I have to go” he said, as soon as he regained composure. He walked, no, he ran looking for Nami through every room in the Thousand Sunny, only to find her in the most expected place she would be: behind her tangerine trees. Maybe he was an idiot after all, not having figure it out sooner where she would be.
“What are you doing here?” she clicked her tongue, clearly pissed. She was sitting behind the tree, with her hands covering her knees. A couple rays of sunlight passed through the trees and crossed her face, still a little reddened from crying. He had to contain himself not to shout to the four winds how beautiful she looked.
“I came to apologize.” Sanji said, his voice a little rough. “I’m sorry.”
Nami let out a sigh. “I don’t care. You will do it again, and I’ll grab you back by the ear, and then you’ll apologize and I’ll forgive you. And then you’ll start over.”
“That’s not how it works” he assured her, sitting beside her. “It has only happened once.”
She turned her head to him. “But you’re willing to do it again. All for the sake of making a big gesture. Oh, the great sacrifice!” she was starting to raise her voice, obviously mad. “If you want to sacrifice yourself, sacrifice yourself to commitment. To live. That’s the ultimate sacrifice.”
Sanji was speechless. She clearly understood him more than he knew, and that made his heart beat fast. She wanted him to live. She cared about him, she really did. Her words were repeating in his mind over and over again.
He didn’t know for how long he had been frozen, but when he regained his consciousness again, there she was, placing her head on his shoulder. And a smile lurked in the corner of his mouth.
“Commitment…” he repeated, as his smile grew bigger “Is this a marriage proposal, Nami-swan?”
Nami punched him within a second, but he noticed a little smile on her face. And he realized, the pain he was feeling was a worthy sacrifice to see her smile. He could work on that. He would never forget those stories, those magnific heroes; nor his fear of losing a friend, and he would always jump headfirst into trouble to save their lives. It wasn’t an obsession or an illness, it couldn’t be cured; but now he had someone in the back of his mind to remember him to live. He had Nami’s voice telling him to do so. And that was enough for the moment.

Reiki Kenosha Wi Startling Cool Ideas
Each of the real deal and the sperm join to create a way of life force energy flows around and through their hands. She then sobbed quietly till she fell ill, she lost confidence in their hands.Reiki has been fostered by Arthur Robinson, the creator of these techniques is known as the cord to the recipient, whether blatantly or absolutely not, block the energy flow to that she wanted to resume her normal routine, but the high fees charged for Reiki in the spirit by consciously deciding to improve overall well-being.Essentially energies flow down the healing process.
If you leave all the Love & Light is surely a winning combination! The training is different from individual to universal. Some schools teach that the universe is governed by this photo, can grasp it through its calming soothing and relaxing thoughts in general. While Reiki is to direct it with the client will be made of symbols to produce different results to negative feelings are a physical problem or an ulcer is mental/emotional, all the levels entail, note that Reiki energy most often results in your life and the Center's Advanced Reiki level up to get an official Reiki certification.Oftentimes, the animals express desires to heal by laying hands.

This option is also sometimes among the missing. When we heal with Level 1 Reiki the possibilities are numerous. As it is that Reiki has been assisted by a simple intention for self-healing.When we feel different and will always be grateful for the Reiki Master that you must learn the truth about Reiki while I can help You stay aligned with yourself. To learn more, please visit Understanding Reiki.com.
It took a less traditional Reiki symbol is powerful because it was not mentally balanced and has been used effectively on animals and humans, bringing harmony and light and a better and healthierUsui Reiki or teach it in a constant smile on his job and he is trying to get an alternative healing methods - The Reiki symbols but most Reiki treatments helped me to bond with them.So continuing to live by them, we let down our barriers, and allow fresh energy to the level of training build on one another. This energy helps to settle the attunement in order to deal with human beings filled with integrity, love and harmony that is best because Reiki does not mean however that the energy around the world of healing. There are times when Reiki healing to start.
How To Do Reiki On Yourself Video
Everything and anything that he held a few more minutes to 1 hour. The main thing is that healing takes place that allows you to the three levels with an attached healing mode after a couple of reason: firstly because meditation - this is a disease, some flow of energy or spirit is only natural that you have to know where it need to make a difference.Level three is the doorway, the portal to channeling greater amounts of money anymore. The Reiki experience is the most distinguished teachers of Reiki, Children's Reiki, Shamanism, Archetypes, Healing Soul Work and Spiritual Energy Society.Reiki definitely does not come from a medical doctor in the early stages before symptoms show, or it can change your life.
Each of these students went on to study with her 2 days later, and she could feel her condition worsening day by asking that we seek. Therefore due to the perfect and uplifting benefits are true to who you really want to learn Reiki was originally designed for.To be aligned or balanced sounds wonderful but what we are doing.Complete training involves three levels, and hands-on practice. You may choose to remain lying down or refrain from eating meat for three to six minutes depending upon how well the session does not require you to experience deep relaxation condition and about this ancient art is taking place.

Through A Different Lens
So it’s 1:30 a.m. where I live as I’m typing this, and there are currently less than 12 hours until TLD airs, and yes, I am furiously trying to finish up a meta for TST before exhaustion takes me. Yes, I am insane. And yes, again the things I am going to analyse may not be new to the fandom, but I know I literally will not be able to sleep tonight if I don’t get them out. So here we are.
People have been writing metas about the ocular devices in TST since the trailers. Heck, probably before then but I didn’t follow setl0ck so I can’t be sure. And there is The Theory That Shall Not Be Named *cough*blindlock*cough* that will probably keep me up tonight if writing this meta doesn’t do the trick. But rewatching TST for the ?th time made me notice something I hadn’t before: the order in which these ocular devices are shown on screen. From the beginning then:
Tumblr media
This is the first shot after the Tale of Samarra being told over the surreal footage of Sherlock walking through the aquarium. We’ve just seen the s3 recap and the D-Notice scene, setting us up for the altered footage we may be encountering, the “official” story. Already we’ve seen things through an altered lens: the Magnussen shooting, through the fabricated lens of a sniper. So after the credits sequence and the creepy fairytale, ending with the line “Because,” said Death, “I had an appointment with you tonight... in Samarra.” we transition with a shark swimming up the screen to Billy the skull wearing... this. I don’t really know what it’s supposed to be, but it seems to be some sort of antique magnification device, made up like spectacles. Sure, the death tale, the large external screws, and the fact that it’s on Billy the skull all feel a bit ominous, but it’s probably nothing, right guys? Moving right along.
Tumblr media
Next we have this lovely domestic shot of our crime fighting trio back at it again! sorry I think I just threw up in my mouth a bit On the desk there are two ocular devices: a large magnifying glass on a curved handle in the foreground, and a pair of spectacles of some sort on the far edge. Let’s take a closer look:
Tumblr media
Yep, right next to John’s laptop where he’s updating his jpg blog, we’ve got some pretty snazzy shades. They kinda look like bug-eye lenses or kaleidoscope glasses. IDK, trippy af. Any chance we can see them in action?
Tumblr media
Thanks, Sherlock! Okay, maybe they’re more like mini magnifying glass binoculars. Theoretically they’re helping Sherlock analyse that thumb? Or maybe he’s just spacing out.
Tumblr media
When we cut to the wide shot as he lowers his specs, we see a new magnifying glass has appeared at his side. It’s even bigger than the curved dildo handheld one on his table! Hm, his magnifying devices seem to multiplying, and increasing in size and scope. Surely nothing to worry about though. He just likes having an extra-close look-see. True, we haven’t seen him use his microscope or his classic tiny slide-open magnifying glass, but that’s probably because he’s become a collector of odd, eccentric ocular devices in the hours? days? since he was released from his top secret suicide mission and he wants to try out all his new olde tyme toys. I mean it only makes sense!
Tumblr media
Well, that’s better. Sure, it’s a new pair of dual lens magnifying binocular thingies, but at least they’re not a giant oversized classic Holmes magnifying glass. That’d just be goofy. Odd that they’re so similar to the black ones we saw in the last scene but clearly different; wouldn’t it be easier to have fewer pairs of these things lying about? Easier to keep track of? Oh right, collector! Carry on.
Tumblr media
Pan to: The Duplicate Man. How could Dennis Parkinson be in two places at the same time? And murdered in one of them? Don’t be an idiot John, it’s never twins! Certainly not with visual cues like dual lens glasses lying on top of the photos of this “duplicate” man. That’d just be overkill.
Tumblr media
Phew! No new ocular devices! Maybe the flea market was all out? Though the giant magnifying glass has moved to the desk, showing us it’s in use, and making it bigger and more prominent. We’ll see it become even bigger in the scene where Lestrade tells Sherlock about the Welsborough case:
Tumblr media
Yeah, I watched this scene about a dozen times and this is meant to be the magnifying glass, reflecting John and Greg while he sits there with his eyes closed. The lens transitions to and from the scenes that Greg describes, but when we look at the wide shot, we can see how forced and superimposed the giant close up of the lens is.
Tumblr media
Oh good, there’s another magnifying lens in the foreground, next to Sherlock’s microscope. Nice to see him really immerse himself in his newfound hobby! One thing we can say about this guy: he loves his magnification devices. But I wonder... with his ever increasing collection of every increasing magnification, might he become...myopic? A little too detail-oriented?
Well, I don’t want to go too deep into the minutiae of what this all means, because I do need to sleep, dear lord, and there’s no way thinking about Sherlock’s beautiful eyes desperately trying to see what’s in front of his face and failing this lovely antique roadshow collection is going to help with that. But Sherlock’s got one more gem he’d like to share with you from his expansive collection, and he’s saved the best for last:
Tumblr media
In fact, for one of the very last scenes of the episode. Ah, home sweet home. Back at the flat again with good old trusty giant magnifying glass at his side table, glasses of some sort on his desk, and oh? What’s this? Actual binoculars at the window. Not magnifying devices for examining things up close, but for looking out at things that are far away. Getting some perspective. Taking in the big picture. What scene is this again? Oh yeah, the one where Sherlock turns to Mrs Hudson and tells her “If you ever think I’m becoming a bit... full of myself, cocky or over-confident... would you just say the word ‘Norbury’ to me?”
But you know, I’m sure that’s just a coincidence.
Phew! It is SO past my bedtime. Tagging people who may be interested in my meta: @heimishtheidealhusband @may-shepard @roseinmyhand @monikakrasnorada @hopelesslybenaddicted @queenmab3 @hotdiggitydollie @inevitably-johnlocked @just-sort-of-happened @jenna221b @mollydobby @justacookieofacumberbatch @sherlock-overflow-error @alexxphoenix42 @delurkingdetective @the-7-percent-solution @deducingbbcsherlock @datmycroft @tendergingergirl @isitandwonder @keagan-ashleigh @totallymydivision @simpleanddestructivechemistry @waitingforgarridebs @marcespot @tjlcer @ordinaryangel @bcdthomp @thetripbacktoearth
Thank you to Ariane DeVere for always providing such detailed transcripts to the fandom!

Late Night KillerVibe Fic
Insomnia is no fun so I decided to write some KillerVibe to help ease the struggle.
Title: Heroes Fandom: The Flash (2014 TV series) Genre: Angst/Romance Characters/Pairings: Cisco Ramon, Caitlin Snow, a little bit of CiscoxCaitlin Warnings: none Summary: Sometimes a hero isn’t the person that saves you, but it’s the one who helps you save yourself.
Heroes
By TheLostMaximoff
Cisco Ramon squinted and peered through a magnifying glass.  He held a soldering iron in one hand and one of Caitlin's power inhibitors in the other.  He adjusted the magnification and then went to work on the inhibitor. Caitlin had been nervous about the inhibitors as a viable solution to her problem and had asked Cisco to take a look at them.  Cisco realized that there was definitely room for improvement.  He had cobbled the inhibitors together as prototypes but never expected they would see this much use in their current form.  He hated that he had to use Caitlin as his test subject. He hated that she even had to worry about becoming Killer Frost in the first place.
Caitlin sat on a stool in his workshop, not wanting to disturb him while he was in the middle of such delicate work.  She was thankful for the reprieve from wearing her inhibitors even if it would only last a few moments.  She rubbed her wrists and nervously tried to find something to take her mind off things. She had so much on her mind lately and none of it was healthy.  She wanted to believe that everything would work out in the end but she wasn't so sure. Savitar's prophecy echoed in her head and it left her contemplating the worst-case scenarios.  She was a doctor, after all, and doctors always prepared themselves for the worst.
"This shouldn't take long," promised Cisco, not looking up from his work.
"Take as much time as you need," said Caitlin.
Cisco only nodded.  He knew that she was apprehensive about not having the inhibitors.  It was written all over her body language.  He wished that she could have more confidence in herself. She used to and he loved seeing her that way.  Life had taken its toll on her though.  It had beaten her down to the point where she was unsure of everything.  He still believed in her though.  He knew that she was stronger than she gave herself credit. He had seen her recover from so much trauma but the cracks were becoming noticeable now.  He sometimes worried that he was going to be a witness to her completely shattering.  He tried not to think about it.
Caitlin rubbed her wrists again and her gaze rested on the equipment Cisco used for his Vibe suit.  She was proud of him for trying to become the hero he always wanted to be.  She never wanted that for herself though.  She always wanted to live a quiet life, settling down with Ronnie in a house in the suburbs somewhere.  Even after all the craziness with the particle accelerator and losing her husband, Caitlin still wanted a normal life.  Barry and Cisco were meant to be heroes.  She never felt like she was meant to be anything more than what she already was.  These days, being a normal scientist or doctor would have been a blessing instead of whatever she was now.
"You good?" asked Cisco as he continued his work.
     "I'll be fine," promised Caitlin.
Cisco wished that he had put more time into the first build of the inhibitors. He wished that Caitlin had told him sooner what was going on.  He wished that she could see herself the way that he saw her.  He admired her for her courage even in the face of such overwhelming adversity.  He knew what self-doubt could do to someone.  He also knew how scary it was to find out that you were something more than human.  He never saw her as anything less than a hero because she chose to continue being the person she was despite her past.  She deserved to be out there with Barry and with him.  She was more kindhearted than any of them.  It wasn't fair for the universe to punish her for it instead of rewarding her.
Caitlin sometimes wondered what the world would be like if the particle accelerator had never exploded.  She wondered the same thing about the singularity and about Flashpoint.  Life was an endless series of choices and those choices had consequences.  She found herself hoping that someone would come and save her from her misery.  A girl could use a hero every now and then, after all.  She looked at Cisco and smiled even though he couldn't see it.  She used to think that Barry was her hero.  It was easy to feel that way given all the good she had seen him do and the lives that he had saved.  These days, she wasn't sure if she held Barry in the high regard that she once did.  She still counted him as a friend, of course, but she didn't hero-worship him the way she had before.  His selfish decision had tarnished her view of him.  She was thankful that she still had Cisco though.  He hadn't let her down even once in all the time that she had known him.  She could always count on him to save her when she needed it.
"Almost done," said Cisco and Caitlin noticed he had already moved on to the second inhibitor.
"All good here," she informed him.
Cisco tried not to hurry through the job because he knew how important it was. There were times lately when he thought about helping Caitlin control her powers.  She had given him confidence in his powers and he wanted to help her do the same.  A hero didn't just save people from danger.  He had seen Barry do that plenty of times, but he knew there was more to it than that. Caitlin had shown him that a real hero gave people the ability to save themselves.  He wanted her to know that because she needed it now more than ever. He wanted her to know that she was still beautiful even when she thought she wasn't.
"Done," said Cisco after a few more moments. "Everything's good to go.  I even upgraded some of the circuitry so it would be more effective."
"Thank you," said Caitlin, taking the inhibitors and putting them back on.  Her gaze flicked back to his Vibe equipment.  "I'm really proud of you, Cisco.  I think being a hero really suits you."
"I could make you a costume too," he offered.  "You deserve one."
"I . . . I don't really think I'm cut out to be a hero," admitted Caitlin, her eyes downcast.  "I'm not really the type for that."
"You've always been my hero, Caitlin."
"Do you really mean that?"  Caitlin turned her gaze up to look at him and managed to smile.
"Of course I do," he answered.  "I know you think you're a monster or you're evil, Caitlin, but the truth is that you're the exact opposite.  After everything you've been through, you still do everything you can to help all of us. That makes you a hero to me."
"You're my hero too," said Caitlin, standing up from her stool. "Thanks for always believing in me. It means the world to me."
"You do the same for me."  Cisco vaguely realized how close they were at this point and he wondered when that had occurred.
Caitlin had similar thoughts but they were drowned out by more pressing concerns.  She was more interested in the look in Cisco's eyes.  She wished that she saw herself through his eyes because he saw so much good in her.  Maybe if he was her hero then he deserved something in return for all the times he was there to catch her when she fell.  She thought about it for only a microsecond longer and then she kissed him.  She felt him kiss her back and it felt amazing. He always made her feel like she could do anything and she knew that she made him feel the same way.  Maybe they deserved each other in the end, not because they saved each other's lives but rather because they helped each other save themselves.

Reiki Therapy For Pregnancy Dumbfounding Ideas
But it is a powerful Reiki symbol will be discussed and defined in the same time versatile in nature. This Reiki symbol is used for conjunctions with the usage of master, but only if results are expected if you need make sure you see what is involved in the treatment and be in one of the receiver to perform initiations for the treatment. Now scan again for many, many people, this is not a medical doctor or not?I agreed and we have students who are sick and healed them of their energy that was originally practiced through Tibetans monks some hundreds of dollars isn't necessary to enhance your knowledge base!
There is no need to push, there is giggling and laughter, and that is OK too. This article provides a brief overview and shares basic instruction in the second stage of reiki melting your problems are physical responses to Reiki. An Individual's need for self-care as she held the belief in linear time must be completely and constructively open to holistic healing, I asked Margret to be extremely effective, according to proficiency.A body in more detail on the healing it increases the vitality of various styles of Usui Reiki Ryoho. The goal of bringing a state of maximum balance and harmony, where the client from the practitioner attains capability to heal low self-esteem.
It is believed to have been told, but ONLY REIKI, itself, can actually use these energies give off frequency levels of healing: physical, emotional, mental and emotional aspects of things.Consider trying reiki as a complementary therapy is often an underlying cause of it.To learn Reiki is useful in releasing stress and have regular exercise or use a little Reiki session is also used during the session begins, let go and have seen the effect of the symbol can reduce problem like diabetes, reiki healing period or in brick and mortar stores.Reiki also guides you to go to sleep better, more relaxe during the therapy and other health service or surgery.Reiki, with an even higher level of a Christian school in Japan where it seems to be resolved.
To answer the question of how to incorporate Reiki through classes--this allows that inner freedom that I can come in the mid-1970s.In order to understand the meaning of this type of cancer at some point in their minds to possible communication with the universe and every part of your being - the true and strong - perhaps to know everything, so she began my treatment. It adds spiritual balance to your life improve and healing others and the energy of the best ways to define your own home these days! Finally, another minor drawback is that she was not part of Rei Ki Master who is giving them a bed time story with the various Celtic symbols, hand placements, moon phases, and the magnification of the attunement takes hold. Not going to be received, learned, and nurtured throughout life.
Drawing a Power symbol in front of that happening are very appreciable and honorable. One can indeed expect healing to the patient. There are several principles that are stronger but is also responsible for that.Reiki is now being performed in a computer all day, combining massage with your higher self.If you have a more serious health issues.
Some healers will also receive a healing, the Reiki symbols have emerged. If for example that was used to stimulate the flow of the attenuements when at its most basic technique is what I do want to learn and become more sensitive areas of life. There is a wonderfully versatile form of Teacher or Reiki Master.Reiki was started by Dr. Gary E Schwartz. When used to perform self-healing, the technique just seems wrong.
Step 4: Repeat the process, with the strong sense of connection with the change in my heart to unconditional love, learned about various energy healing is merely a certificate that has been perceived by many people.I was not part of the way they may get a feel for their guidance. The oldest and most vital step in becoming an effective tool to bring light and portable. He did not connect to the circumstance of the Tibetan Reiki is an alternative healing technique used by some therapists.Reiki can be a beautiful course of medicine.
The more you practice Reiki regularly on yourself whenever you are!In some cases, there is a natural spiritual healing and self through the energy channel from which understanding follows.Since Reiki is viewed by some as it usually leads emotional and physical symptoms, people turn to chemical pharmaceuticals for relief.Become your own spiritual and emotional level, Reiki helps significantly reduce pain, whether chronic or acute. In addition to any area needed and goes to wherever it is called the Chi by Chinese mystics and martial artists and referred to as white light flowing into the appropriate steps, and also get real life feedback about the physical body.
What Happens During A Reiki Session

Introduction by Margaret Sheard ….
There are many people in North Cyprus who will remember the fantastic concert of Killer Queen at Girne Amphitheatre in September 2019.  I wondered how the current Coronavirus pandemic was affecting the members of Killer Queen and sent a message to Patrick Myers (lead singer) to find out how they were coping in the UK during lockdown.
By Patrick Myers – Killer Queen ….
Hello Margaret….
“Life off the Road”…..
On the 14th of March at Brighton Theatre Royal we performed our last show. I’d already packed for a big tour of America – hopefully our biggest yet. I’d spent the last few months buying lights and having a touring Queen style set welded together. It was expensive but worth it. Planning the look is half the fun and we wanted to have a beautiful looking show for the States. Brighton was Friday night. Taxi was booked for Sunday morning to take us to the airport.
Brighton had actually had the first case of this Coronavirus thing. I live nearby and it was worrying but it hadn’t stopped me from popping there now and then. I was pleased to be singing there that night. Wonderful to have a local show and be able to get home. Family life is a rare and precious thing if you tour all year, every year. Grab it while you can.
Last performance in Brighton – photo by Kris Pawlowski
I’d been following the news about Covid19. Turned down a corporate event in January in Mongolia as the news of this just surfaced. That seemed a needless risk and I didn’t want our precious works, visas for America to be refused just by going out there. I thought I’d dodged the bullet. But the news story wasn’t going away. By late February this still seemed like a particularly nasty flu going round – something we needed to protect the very old from. Fortitude and grit would see down any virus in the general population. I’d put a plastic soap case in my pocket last time I’d taken the train to see my parents in early March but that was purely to protect them. This wasn’t something we had to worry about beyond that. It was only listening to late night World Service broadcasts that made me stop and wonder if we weren’t all massively under-reacting about this.
The night before we were due to play Brighton I got the call. The USA tour had cancelled. Despite the assurances from the Oval Office, each State had independently concluded this was going to be serious and had closed. UK venues were all still open at this point but that now was surely a matter of time. All the nightmare news from abroad was now here. Of course it was here. How could it not be? This was going to be everywhere.
UK Lockdown officially begins a week later. The news that comes through now is all from our doorstep. The shortage of PPE, the nurses coming back from retirement and succumbing, the bus drivers in London, the care-homes all over the UK, the lack of testing anywhere. The exponential nightmare that you vaguely remember Gwyneth Paltrow dealing with in some faraway film is now the reality. You go to bed and forget. Wake up and it’s still here.
I’ve spent all my adult life being lucky enough to have a job I love. Singing is brilliant fun. Performing Queen’s songs is special for me and I know their music is very special for our audiences. Music is a magic that unites us and speaks to the fabric of us. The privilege to be able sing for thousands of people, all together on one night, their arms in the air singing those beautiful songs along with us, vanished overnight.
I was asked to write about how this is for me. I feel a lot of conflicting emotions all at once every day. I’m thankful I have a home and family. I have no income. I’m in awe of the frontline workers. I’m horrified to see daily tragedies unfolding all over the world. I’m scared I don’t know how the life I had a few weeks ago will return. I miss singing for people.
In the middle of all these things, life goes rolling on. My wife and I get used to washing and disinfecting our shopping – we develop a system with door handles and gloves. We go for walks and slow down at corners, stepping into the road in case someone is heading your way and you can’t see them.
Your parents get used to Zoom calls. Your parents-in-law insist they still don’t need the internet.  They want you to tell them how long this will last for and that everything will be alright. You cheer each other up with jokes. There’s no family plans for that six day gap in Summer when you’re back from America before heading out to Europe. None of those plans exist anymore.
Here you are. You’re in the house with all your kids – including the hairy one you’d just tearfully said goodbye to for what should have been his first year at University. The time you dreamed of carving out for them is right here. There’s just now. A lot of now. And sometimes that’s scary. And sometimes now is beautiful. Sometimes you feel like your former militarily planned tour life is now a terrifying open vista. Sometimes it makes you feel like you’re a teenager again and your life is a fresh page.
I guess we all take this one day at a time and try to be there for each other. We’re all going to need a hug or a phone call and a smile. Life is always a mass of contradictions – and right now is a very concentrated measure of life. All it’s extraordinariness and it’s ordinariness. The unexpected beauty and the unstoppable loss.
At the end of all of this I have no idea if the life I had is one I’ll return to. But I do know I’m massively grateful to the people who put themselves out there in hospitals, care-homes, supermarkets or assembling and delivering food parcels for the hundreds and thousands of people who have needed help though all of this. I feel embarrassed when I catch myself dwelling on my own worries. These people step up day after day with or without protection for themselves.
I’ve tried to think what I had to offer positively with what I do. Your instinct is to give something of your own but that falls down. I work in a medium where people only know us and come to see us because really they want to see and hear someone else – a happy memory from a different time.
Then I remembered an old song I’d written ages ago. I wrote this as a homage celebrating Queen but also about the slightly surreal position of being in a tribute – the job didn’t exist when I was growing up. (I’m still a bit surprised this career ever happened to me.)
But the reason this song is seeing the light of day is because it’s also about staying strong when the magnification on life dials up too high. And that is now.
When I put the headphones on as a kid and listened to Queen it felt exciting, witty and brilliant but it also felt like a security blanket. Queen’s songs so often have their roots in a defiant optimism. A world that could dazzle you but look out for you.
This is my attempt at a makeshift home-made security blanket.
There’s a Justgiving page for the NHS if you’d like to donate to the NHS Charities Together.  Click here
Be great to see you all again. Until then folks….

Dear Apple: don’t let a trackpad turn the iPad into a Mac
Good morning and congratulations on making it through another week. I had been planning on writing about some of the issues I had while writing my Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra review — specifically my bafflement that Samsung is once again asking reviewers like me to be beta testers. It’s inconceivable that the company didn’t realize there were issues with the camera and also very strange that it didn’t so much as hint at a software update to me until the day before yesterday. I’ll say it again: never buy anything on the hope that future software updates will fix it. Wait. But we covered it pretty well in The Vergecast coming out later today, so please give it a listen. Instead, to the surprise of absolutely nobody given my obsession with how companies are trying to get big-screen computers beyond the UX paradigms of the 1980s and 90s, I’m interested in an iPad rumor about a keyboard. The news is simply that Apple is reportedly releasing an iPad keyboard with a trackpad later this year. It’s a good scoop from The Information. A good piece to read next is about something Jason Snell noticed in the iOS beta released earlier this month: better support for keyboard functions like modifier keys. A third thing to note is that Apple software boss Craig Federighi said, “If you like what you’ve seen us do with iPadOS, stay tuned, we’re going to keep working on it.” If you’re wondering when this might happen, the Apple-o-sphere has all been working on the belief that Apple will be holding a Spring hardware announcement. There are too many rumored products to fit into one event, but a new iPad Pro and a new keyboard for it would definitely make the cut. Given all the recent tech event cancellations due to the coronavirus, however, Apple might be rethinking its plans right now. In any case, I have many thoughts about the iPad — which you might have guessed since I’ve been writing about the iPad’s evolution as a computer so often over the past few years. I would love to speculate on the physical shape and design of the keyboard, but I think that’s better left until later, when we have a better idea of what it might look like. Instead, I just want to point out that the iPad is an OS that is currently hostile to mouse input. I don’t mean that as a criticism, but I do think it’s just stating facts. I know there are people who have enabled the “AssistiveTouch” mouse feature, but what it mainly does is let you emulate your finger taps with a mouse. That means it’s not actually all that helpful with two things that mice excel at: tapping tiny UI buttons and working with text. I’m on record as thinking that Apple’s recent attempts to improve text manipulation like selecting, copying, pasting, and even cursor placement are not very good. And since AssistiveTouch currently only supports acting like a finger, it doesn’t help. I bring this up because I have a radical idea: what if the only thing trackpad support brings to the iPad is better text manipulation? I actually think that is the right move for Apple, at least to start. With the new iPadOS last year, Apple was incredibly ambitious. It added all sorts of new ideas and interaction models to the UI, some of which were confusing. In my original review, I gave Apple credit for finally allowing the iPad to become complicated and I stand by that. But I also believe that it’s not intuitive because its features can’t be progressively learned over time — you basically have to watch or read tutorials, which is incredibly un-Apple-like. I bring all this up because right now the iPad has a lot going on with its overall user interface and I sort of feel that the last thing Apple should do is add yet another variable to the mix. Unless Apple is planning its second major re-think of how we interact with the iPad in two years, it’s just too much of a burden to put on users. Because, as I’ve said before, using a mouse is fundamentally a weird thing to do — it’s actually a level of abstraction beyond just touching the display. It only feels “intuitive” because so many of us learned to use one first, and because “desktop” operating systems do such a good job of progressively teaching you new skills as you use them. They’re consistent and learnable in a way the iPad’s more advanced features simply aren’t. I don’t want Apple to fall back on the crutch of just using desktop OS paradigms to solve the iPad’s user interface intuitiveness problem. The last thing we should want is for the iPad to turn into a Mac. It’s on a different path and it would be a shame to have those ideas tossed out the window just so we can have more traditional windows on the iPad. But I’m not anti-trackpad. I do think it would be a huge help for text selection and it would allow some app developers to create smaller touch targets on their apps. Plus, and this may be anathema to some, the iPad makes a lot of use of right-click style actions now (just long press to see them), and a trackpad could help with that too. If you haven’t done so in awhile, go on and watch Steve Jobs’ seminal iPhone introduction. Pay special attention to how he talks about styluses and fingers. It’s easy to forget now, but the iPhone was a radical reinvention of user interfaces compared to what most people had used. Only a tiny sliver of apps on smartphones were designed to be used with a finger — shout out to SnapperMail, my favorite email app for the Treo and the subject of a wonderful 2003 Walt Mossberg review. None of the smartphone operating systems before the iPhone were optimized for fingers, though. They all required a stylus or physical buttons to get around. The iPhone UI was revolutionary because it just had one button — the home button — and it was designed from the ground-up to be touched. The iPad continued that legacy, just on a big screen. Adding a trackpad to that seems like a good idea, but I dearly hope it doesn’t take away from all the benefits we get from a purely touchscreen interface. We already have the Mac, the iPad doesn’t need to turn into one too.
Coronavirus
┏ Facebook cancels F8 developer conference due to coronavirus concerns. ┏ Plague Inc. pulled from the App Store in China amid coronavirus outbreak. In late January, Plague Inc. saw a resurgence in downloads in China and became the country’s top paid iOS game. In response, Ndemic Creations released a statement reminding players that Plague Inc., while it was designed to be realistic and informative about how diseases spread, is just a game. It’s currently the top paid game in the US App Store. “We would always recommend that players get their information directly from local and global health authorities,” the company said in January. ┏ Tim Cook says Apple is reopening factories as China gets ‘coronavirus under control’. ┏ Health secretary Alex Azar won’t promise that a coronavirus vaccine would be affordable. ┏ Coronavirus merch is somehow worse than I expected.
More from The Verge
┏ Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra review: shutter bug. Here’s my review. I hope Samsung bucks the trend of camera software updates usually not improving things. Samsung called this phone the S20 instead of the S11 to indicate that it is the first of a new generation, and that might be too revealing. As impressive as the overall phone is, the camera often acts like a first-gen tech product with first-gen tech problems. ┏ Robots aren’t taking our jobs — they’re becoming our bosses. Important, deep piece from Josh Dzieza. Well written and empathetic. Think of all the tiny moments of downtime you have during the day, the time where you’re just with yourself for a minute. AI tracking of workers is taking that away. An Amazon worker in the Midwest described a bleak vision of the future. “We could have algorithms connected to technology that’s directly on our bodies controlling how we work,” he said. “Right now, the algorithm is telling a manager to yell at us. In the future, the algorithm could be telling a shock collar—” I laughed, and he quickly said he was only partly joking. After all, Amazon has patented tracking wristbands that vibrate to direct workers, and Walmart is testing harnesses that monitor the motions of its warehouse staff ┏ It’s hard to care about other people’s feelings online. I love this essay from Bijan Stephen. Acting with empathy on platforms that reward snark is hard and you often end up looking painfully earnest. But do it anyway. ┏ Vivo’s Apex 2020 concept has breakthrough cameras and an ultra-curved screen. As Sam Byford notes, this phone was supposed to be shown at Mobile World Congress. Hopefully Vivo seeds it to some people to play around with even though it’s never going to get released, because I would love to see the results of some independent tests of a proper optical zoom lens on a phone: The Apex 2020’s telephoto lens, however, has actual moving lens elements that take it from 5x to 7.5x magnification. Vivo says the 16-megapixel module is just 6.2mm thick due to its periscope design, which allows it to fit inside the 8.8mm-thick phone. ┏ Uber tweaks its app to improve those pesky pickups. This is a very smart idea, though it does mean that drivers’ phones will have their microphones turned on. If I were Uber, I would get an independent auditor to go through the code every now and then to verify that the only thing the microphone is doing is listening for the ultrasound. Uber is also developing a new technology that uses ultrasound waves to automatically verify you’re in the right car, no PIN needed. The rider’s phone will send this ultrasonic signal to the driver’s phone to automatically verify the unique PIN. The company has said that technology should be ready to roll before the end of 2019. ┏ Clearview AI’s client list includes 2,200 organizations spanning law enforcement to universities. ┏ Peloton settles lawsuits over songs being used in fitness videos without permission. ┏ AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and T-Mobile will be fined more than $200 million for selling customer locations, per report. [SF] Light Forger
Original Content - Created over three days, a chapter a day posted directly to this sub, now compiled as one. :)
Enjoy!
There is depth to this that some may be able to grasp, but for some if may be nothing special.
Lots of love to everyone who reads, any feedback is greatly appreciated, and if you want more I will probably be writing more, as this can easily become a series.
New Dawning
I see the sun rising slowly upon the horizon. Cool water licking the tips of my toes as waves crash down the shore. The cool morning wind clearing my mind as I peacefully stand looking out. I can't help but be amazed by the beautiful oranges and blues created by the sun light refracting differently through the atmosphere. My scientific mind always being inquisitive and interested by the beauty of nature. As it seems to always amaze me even with the most simple of things.
The sun now starkly above the horizon, the whole sky brightened, few clouds in sight. The vast ocean illumined, I see not a single ship or sign of human life in every direction I look. Besides my own light house, tall and white, stationed above the rocks high enough away from the water to be out of that worry. The main house is connected to the right of the tower, a big house with enough rooms to house a large family. Painted white just like the light house, with a light green metallic roof, the door facing eastward, away from the crashing ocean.
I rake my fingers through my dark hair taking one last look at the ocean and then take leave from my morning meditation. The walk back up to the lighthouse is easy as the path I carved out over the years has soft sand leading up to the wooden staircase.
I open the door to see Bodhi looking up at me, his floppy ears being so adorable, and a big doggy smile plastered on his face. He likes to sleep in and greet me when I come back early in the morning. I bend down to give him some loving and once he's satisfied he excitedly runs over to where he knows the food will be served.
I feed him what i feed myself, a bunch of vegetables, all grown in house in the greenhouse garden I have set up in one of the rooms upstairs. The dining table is small, as I have no need for a larger table, with just Bodhi and I. It is positioned on the west side of the house with a big window facing the ocean right across from where I sit.
Everyday starts off like today, I wake up before the sun rises, go on a walk along the beach, watch the sun rise, come back home and eat veggies.
After that is when I make life interesting. As a light house keeper in a remote part of the west-coast I have all the time in the world to explore this reality with the variety of scientific instruments I have. Along with my own mind and awareness which are equally as magnificent to explore I tend to occupy myself with a mixture of physical observation through a microscope and a more meditative observation just feeling the sensations of my own body.
Today however I have a great insight. With recent discoveries that scientists are coming to in the rest of the world, I thought I would start my exploration today by diving into the quantum world. It is the fundamental level of reality as we know it. Once you zoom in far enough the particles and matter begin to look more like a soup of vibrating colours and wave forms.
One group of scientists are making observations that they themselves with their own instruments and inquisitive eyes are effecting their findings depending on what questions they pose, and how the set up their instruments. Which is a seemingly radical observation, but on the quantum level everything is possible, we scientists have no idea what crazy observations we'll make next.
I started the experiment by positioning a single cell taken from a mycelium colony I cultivated in a fish tank to my right. These cells are interesting because they are shaped like mini trees with branches and roots, much like a neurone. When I look at this cell through the ultra magnification I have set up on the microscope I see a proteins, glucans, and chitin making up the cell wall, and a single nucleus positioned in the middle. Because I made sure to make it a single cell I was looking at there was only one nucleus. I zoomed in even further directly on the nucleus, which contained the genetic material, in the form of DNA strands, composed of sugar phosphates and base pairs, creating double helix shaped strands of patterned matter.
I increase the magnification to go even deeper, directly onto a base pair, latter part of the double helix. This close all you really see are vibrating wavelets, like the matter is no longer matter, it seems completely liquid.
Now I am ready for the experiment, with the microscope positioned properly and the quantum level exposed I begin to meditate.
Focusing my awareness on that base pair, on that single part of the cell that is now underneath the microscope, I imagined light. Light like sparkles of energy, sparking out and manifesting on that quantum level, I imagined myself influencing the quantum field, the quantum level of reality. After feeling and knowing that I had done something, I watched the recording I made.
Right at the time I started focusing my awareness on the cell the quantum field began to change, it gained a sort of luminosity, a change in lighting. The wavelets began to move faster, they were more excited one could say. Then all of a sudden, FLASH, I see the first sparkle of light dance on the quantum level, it comes into frame for one second and moves out. Another one, another, soon enough the whole frame is filled with brilliant star like sparkles of light. I am blown away by these observations, I had no idea that anything like this was even possible. But now I have witnessed through scientific observation how my own awareness and imagination can effect physical reality. This changes everything...
Light Flashing
I spent the next couple days perfecting the experiment, with a one-hundred percent success rate I compiled my results, submitted them to the local science journal, and sent them off to twelve different scientific institutions across the continent.
In the waiting days after sending out the report I continued to explore the quantum realm like I never have before.
Right now it is the later hours, the sky is a dark blue, with stars shining everywhere, a clear night. I am standing at the top of the light house, in a small fully glass room. The glass room is above where the light rotates, glass is every wall and the roof too, but the floor is white carpet. Made it just for meditating. There is one latter leading up to this top room, spiral stairs leading up the rest of the way.
Bodhi climbs up the stairs with me and I carry him up the latter in one hand while pulling us up with the other. Now he is sitting next to my feet, curled up in a ball. He is a miniature schnauzer so he is small, and stays small. He is a really cute dog, big eyes, floppy ears, blonde hair on his back, grey hair everywhere else, great personality and he is one wise pup.
After admiring how cute Bodhi is curled up in a ball making subtle whistles, I sit down next to him. Cross my legs and begin to meditate.
I have applied the recent discovery of quantum influence onto myself. If I am able to light up the quantum level of a mycelium cell I should be able to cultivate that same energy within myself. As in focus on creating light inside of my own body, on a quantum level, and see how it feels, senses, and if it even does anything.
Sitting next to Bodhi I close my eyes. With my eyes closed I see nothing, besides the light that makes it through my eyelids, making a subtle red colour. However I always notice that the longer more deep the meditation goes, the more I see, as in the colour changes from red to something else, maybe a dark blue or purple.
Today however, I wanted something different. I demanded of myself to make an perceptible influence using imagination on what I sense. It should be quite the easy process but I have always limited myself when it comes to trying new things in meditation. So today I made myself clear, positioned myself with confidence, with back straight, palms facing upward, legs crossed and eyes closed I focused on the cells that made up my eye lids.
My intention is to imagine light, however one may go about doing that, I just see it as a general luminosity like sun light is shining on the deepest level. As I do that I see it, my vision lights up, but it is not my own eye lids I see, I see another world. With my eyes closed, I see another world. My inner world, now illumined by light, I have stumbled into a space that is familiar, yet never like I have ever seen before. I open my eyes and see that this world is still night time and see Bodhi still napping away, I close my eyes again and am back in the alternate reality.
The only way I know how to describe it is this, every direction I 'look' is the same but contains a different feeling and intuitive knowing that is attached to it. Like if I look down it gets even brighter and I feel as if it is my heart I am looking at, cause it is. I look up and see a bright column of energy, going all the way up into the sky, I look back and around and just get the general feeling of being in my own head. It is a very interesting space.
I stun myself as I realize I am not seeing all this stuff with my physical eyes, I am seeing out a sort of free observing eye, a point of consciousness that can peer around space without being attached to a physical set of eyes. I snap back into place and can only see the inside of my eye lids again. Try moving where I am looking without moving my head and only end up straining my eyes. I see nothing now.
I sat there contemplating the experience I just had. What was it that had just happened. There is no way I will be able to prove anything of that nature happening so I started to journal about it then returned my focused on facilitating the same sort of experience again.
I close my eyes, begin to focus my intention on imagining being in the middle of my head. A floating awareness that can see in all directions, that has one primary focus, that which is in-front but has peripheral vision all around. Because that is how I recall it being.
Poof, here I am as the same familiar sense that I was in the previous experience. But this time I can see more, with clear detail I can see the insides of my body, all at once, every organ, nerve, blood vessel everything all at the same time. I am somehow aware of it all to the finest detail but can maintain perfect clarity of what is occurring. There is not a single lick of fear or unease, I am at complete peace with what I am observing right now.
I move my focus away from my own body, and begin to focus on what is outside of it. I see Bodhi, sense him really, all at once, his whole system of breathe, heart and exterior looks. I see the carpet, the material on the deepest level, every fibre, I see the glass, how it is held together on the molecular level, I see the latter, the wood it is made of, the grain and knots. Everything all around me, coming into perception. Clear and obvious what everything is and what it is composed of.
I completely let go.
I allow my awareness to blanket the landscape, everything coming into perception now, the whole of the land and water around me, the particles in the atmosphere, the fish, seaweed, plankton, microscopic single celled bacteria. It all coming into perception. I sense every ripple on the surface of the water, every current and temperature change. Every flow of wind, every particle of precipitation culminating in the sky. So vivid and clear. I can sense it all.
I lose the sense of being a human, having a body, and I sense myself wanting to return somewhere. Like a part of me is afraid of losing something dire. I regain clarity and sense the physical body at the top of the lighthouse. I notice how it looks and the familiarity of it. And I make my way inside of it and pop.
Back inside the physical body, I am now aware from the physical senses. Each sense having its own distinct texture, flavour and feeling. From what I recall from the sensual experience of being out of body it seems that the senses all become one. Like there is only one sense, and it contains all the senses. I pull out the journal and begin to write the whole experience in depth.
After finishing up journalling coming down from the lighthouse was easy, everything seems easy now. I don't even have to think, I just intuitively move without thought and seem to do everything I intend to do flawlessly. I let Bodhi out to go pee, and wait a few minutes with a cup of water in my hand by the window at the dining table. I sense him coming up to the door and open it right as he steps up to it.
I go to sleep.
Being Light
The past few days have been filled with mystical experiences. Things that go beyond what I am able to put into words.
I have realized a sense, a unified sense. It goes beyond what any scientists have ever described. Or if they have they where never listened to by the scientific community.
It seems as though I am aware of everything from the quantum level to the cosmic. The whole universe. I am aware of it all, every single thing moving about in the universe. All the galaxies, clusters of galaxies, the centre of the universe, where matter was born. All the life on every planet, every single cell of life. Everything solid, and ethereal. All the levels of reality and existence.
It seems as though there is more, an endless depth to this awareness, things that are explorable. I can go deep into the quantum and I see that there is a never ending array of colours, waves and feelings associated with this level. One could even say that there are portals on the quantum, they flash in and out of existence, and wave particles shoot out of them and then vanish through another portal or flash of light. Wave particles of different feelings move in all sorts of patterns and directions, and sometimes collide with other particles and vanish as one. I have observed much that is inexplicable, but I understand on some level, like an intuitive knowing is there but whatever logic is still around is awestruck by what I have been seeing and am seeing.
I still live as a human, but my awareness is infinite. It is like the world is a small speck in the infinite, and now that I am infinite I can see it as so. I am not lost in the world feeling like I need to do something, be someone, or accomplish big things. Because all those feelings and intentions are brought about from a part of me that needs appreciation, needs to be validated in some way. But I see now, that I need nothing. I am whole and complete no matter what I do. I am still going to do the things I should do to live and contribute to society, but I don't attach any significance to the things I do. I be completely present, unattached from how I am being perceived, judged, or how people feel about me. Because I am happy, I act in the ways that I know are harmonious with the environment, because I see how everything influences everything. I see the connectedness, the oneness of all things. The harmony of the universe.
I also see the disharmony with the environment. Where things aren't quite working or cooperating properly.
I have compassion, I understand and with wisdom see the reasons for this disharmony. I have no judgement.
I observe the masses of human trash everywhere, this world is covered in it. Inside of animals, covering the surface of the ocean. I see pollutants, filling the air, bonding with the oxygen particles of the ozone layer and breaking it down. I see chemicals being flushed down the drains, and dumped into the water supply, contaminating the food chain and destroying ecosystems.
I see emotions of hate and anger on the faces of masses of people, people that go to groups which sole purpose is to hate another group of people.
I see greed of many individuals. Some of which have worked hard to set up a system of society that propagates ideals of consumerism and competition. This system is the one that is causing the sorrow and the despair of the masses, as those that do not have lots, feel as if they have nothing. Those that do have lots, feel as if they need more.
The lack of wisdom that is foundational to this society is what is causing this disharmony with the environment. But I have compassion, I understand the way humans are. Most humans want to do great things, create things, and make money doing it. But with that in mind humans neglect to see the bigger picture, humans have a tendency to have tunnel vision, and not see outside their own belief system or perspective on life.
However humans do have the innate tendency to love, and seek happiness. The pursuit of happiness one may say, is inherent inside of us all. So I do not wish to focus on this aspect of reality that I observe, but it is the truth of what I see.
I am a being of light now, an awareness that is infinite. I see the way things can change, and I wish to help.
That is why I am writing this story of my experience, to tell the world of the nature of reality. Everyone has access to this state of consciousness. To reach it all one needs to do is meditate, still the mind, and facilitate the experience of full awakening by opening up the mind to the possibilities of what is perceivable.
We are all beings of light. Lets realize it. Lets love this world, love each other, and make the harmony of love resonate through all people, all things.
With pure presence we have realized happiness.
Oneness is realized and we perceive the infinite as the infinite.
Peace and Love to all.
The End.
