Another favourite angst trope: When a character is so used to being treated badly that they don't see anything wrong with it and talk and think about it very matter-of-factly

Until they meet the other characters and see how HORRIFIED they are every time they reveal another detail from their past

I love that we all sort of unanimously agree that if Hob had found out Dream was being held captive, he would have stormed the Burgess’ basement with guns a-blazing and like 400 years of pent up fury to get his friend back, and then would have immediately turned into the most tender, most emotional mess because “oh god, how could they do this to you? How could I not have known?” while Dream would just melt into a puddle against his chest.

How's about a whumpee who desires pain?

A whumpee who wants to be stressed and panicked and hurt. Everything's been too good for too long, and maybe that frustrates them a little bit.

Why do they feel this way? They don't know. All they do know, is that that risky and/or hurtful scenario is looking quite tempting.

If nobody's going to make them worse, they'll do it themself.

Did you know Hasan hammered a nail through my arm once? It hurt and I had to walk around with my arm like that for way too long. I should've left a trail of blood out that damn store. There's my answer, I hope you're happy with yourself."

54. If you could say anything you wanted to Hasan without any consequences whatsoever, what would you say? "I'm pretty sure I already can. Fuck you, Hasan!"

"Do it, you coward!"

"Yeah. So that's about it. I don't know, sometimes I say worse and more detailed things, but that's when I have shit to complain about.

55. If you could do anything you wanted to Hasan right now, what would you do? "Oh… now that's a far better question. I'd handcuff them to this stupid ass pipe and turn the thermostat for this room way down. I'm thinking… 45 degrees Farenheit. Then I'll go upstairs, call the cops, and wait for them to arrive. I'll make sure to give Hasan a very friendly goodbye as they lead them away so I never have to see that person again as long as I live."

61. What was your childhood like? "It was… good. A lot better than what's going on these days, I'll tell you that. Listen, I really don't think going into detail is gonna be good for me right now, so just leave it alone, alright? I lived a pretty standard life.

65. Do you get offended easily? I don't think so… Hasan is another story because they say a lot of things I'm not used to hearing. Language barriers in Whump are still on my mind. Specifically, during or right after Whumpee is rescued by Caretaker.

When Caretaker tries to dress their wounds, Whumpee thinks it’s another attempt to harm them. So, Caretaker tries to calm them down using slow gestures, or demonstrating their actions before they get anywhere near Whumpee. They try to introduce themself, or to learn Whumpee’s name, and they have to hope all of this is enough to get the message—I’m trying to help you—across.

#no matter what type of Whumpee or Caretaker happen to be paired up #this trope doesn’t miss #Violent Whumpees who attack anyone who gets too close x Caretakers who keep their distance as they try to offer Whumpee basic needs #distant Caretakers doing what they have to do to keep Whumpee alive even though Whumpee is fighting every step of the way #it’s just GOOD SHIT okay #whump

Another whump prompt/idea: A rescued whumpee, who, despite the scars they have, seems to have little to no visible change to their personality... however they start behaving strangely, somewhat erratically, the longer they're away from Whumper. Caretaker shrugs it off, but eventually Whumpee breaks down completely, begging for them to let Whumpee go back because he doesn't understand anymore, saying that they tried to get used to it, they did, but friendships are so complicated and they are nothing but a mere posession, and suddenly, with one horrifying realization, everything makes sense to Caretaker about Whumpee's confusing behavior.
