TMA where everything is exactly the same except halfway through Jon starts using she/her pronouns. No one bats an eye, her voice is exactly the same, and no one mentions it. The only exception is that Martin is allowed one (1) fond comment about how she waited to socially transition until she wasn’t really human anymore. Jon gives him a stern glance in response and Martin starts panicking and reassuring her that everyone has their own journeys and so long as you’re safe there’s never a wrong time to come out (except for maybe that time he blurted out that he was bi to his mom over a vegan burger, she never did quite forgive him for that) and everyone is thoroughly supportive and his feelings haven’t changed and- Jon sips her tea calmly, pleased at making Martin scramble for words. It’s her favorite type of ace flirting.

all I'm going to say to the collective TMA fandom tonight is a large, unironic THANK YOU for being normal about Jon's asexuality. By "normal" I mean openly portraying and embracing ace-ness in each and every flavor. Creator after creator in this fandom has their own unique interpretation of Jon's sexuality, and I truly, legitimately feel that this group has created one of the most nuanced and healthy environments for discussing different kinds of attraction

It's Ace Awareness Week!!!

Jon is on the surface the stereotypical ace character- completley depraved of humanity, cold towards everyone around him and too busy for relationships, but through the story we watch him grow as a person, struggle with his own humanity and his disconnection with people around him. We see not just that he cares, but that he loves all those people around him and that he latches onto them till the very end.

I'm not that good at putting my thoughts into words, but I belive it goes without saying that, to me, as an ace person myself, who has struggled for so long with my own humanity purely because I've never seen a character like Jon, and to many other ace people, having a character like this, in somewhat-popular media, who has the same struggles as many asexual people (though ours don't feature the Eldritch horror, I hope), is SO important and so humanizing.

I don't know if Jonny Sims knew what impact making a main character of a horror podcast asexual would have on ace listeners - he probably didn't. But I hope that he found out.

Representation matters, you are not alone and stay safe.
