since ash never married in the epic, i like to think that it’s because he was very much focused on his duty and ALSO because his participation in the war was out of loyalty towards king dhritarashtra and hastinapur so he was... perhaps planning on getting married once the war Ends ??? HE WAS OUT THERE FIGHTING !!!!!!! but we all know what happened to him (sheds a tear)

anyway i think he’d be a bit of a masochist. (the room falls silent and you all look at me)

OH also i wrote a Thing for kamash/ashkama !! I DONT... write fics often but i wanted to slap a certain dialog on paper :thinking:

They've decided that their bullying shall cease for an instant.

Seeing this man, a mere residue of Shiva, look so vulnerable right next to them, made a feeling rise in their chest that they refuse to acknowledge.

Kāma closes their eyes. Their relationship has always been an indescriptible mess.

They would come onto him, hiss and growl, rile him up and make him rage. And he would accept it every single time, he would give in to their pestering, teeth bared and guilty. He didn't want to refuse.

Maybe it's because it almost felt like a gift.

So when the tension would finally drop and all that was left was this strange shame and silent feelings, Kāma would look away. They'd always look away first. He got used to it. Not like he'll ever admit how much this loneliness hurts.

But this time again, they had shared a bed. And he was visibly hurting in his sleep.

Kāma slowly props themself on their elbows, scarred hand beginning to reach out towards his face. They stop midway, though, the instant their mind becomes plagued with a singular, heavy thought.

They watch as his frown intensifies, a laboured breath escaping the Mahabharatan warrior as he painfully muttered in his sleep.

"Father…"

Ah, well. They suppose they can somewhat understand. The boy's been through a lot, hasn't he ? They'll have to pester Ganesha about it though, but Ashwatthama had been--

"Your divinity…"

They look at him once more, eyes wide and a slight tinge of pink on their cheeks. What was he suddenly dreaming about ?

... Actually, they'd rather not know. Not that part.

Kāma lies back down next to him, just a little higher this time, enough so they could hug the man to their chest. His breathing's pacing tells them that he was close to properly waking.

"... Your grace-- ?”

"Quiet now." they whisper, fingers kneading his hair, gently caressing his scalp. "Go back to sleep. Forget this in the morning, and consider it a dream." they grow a little irritated once they can feel his smile against their naked skin.

He seemingly complies, his arms wrapping themselves around the smaller God's waist and back. This position was amazingly comfortable, almost as if their bodies fit each other perfectly.

The mere thought of it being the case annoys the white haired assassin.

How dare he look that relaxed so quickly ? Wasn't he having a particularly rough nightmare ?

Their fingers apply pressure on the warrior's shoulders, massaging his muscles, lulling him to sleep. He had no need to see the unfamiliar face Kāma was making.

One of embarrassment. A luxury.

"You're quite the light sleeper."

Ashwatthama's eyes slowly blink open. He was never a good liar, and he's even less of a good actor. "...You ordered me to sleep."

The God chuckles.

Reassured, he continues. "I'm dreaming though, so it's fine ain't it ?"

He watches as they brush his bangs back, lifting his face so they can lock gazes. Something they'd do often.

"You've grown annoyingly cheeky. Is it Shiva's influence turning you into a little rascal, I wonder..."

He glares, gripping on their wrist. That one was uncalled for.

"Such a mean look you're giving me..." Kāma smirks, a familiar expression of arrogance plastered all over their face.

It's this damn look. Ashwatthama rises, pinning their smaller frame underneath his own, the kiss they proceed to share feeling like a bite. Surprisingly, Kāma is the first to slightly pull away, gasping for air with a moan.

"Ashwatthama--"

Their eyes widen when he collapses on top of them. Instinctively locking their legs around his waist, they lean forward a little bit. "... Ashwatthama ?"

"Sorry. I'm still so fucking sleepy."

...The God comically grits their teeth, feeling somewhat irked. The mood had suddenly gotten so great ! "So that was your way of punishing me ?" they hiss.

"...Dunno what you're talking about." his sole visible eye blinks slowly, observing their face. Red suits them. Both their eyes and cheeks. He sometimes felt like such a creep when he would stare. But he really couldn't help himself for some reason.

He had this urge to just... grin, whenever they would glare at him. When they’d show faces no one else got to see.

...Let's not think about how Kāmadeva turned him into a total weirdo.

"Your divinity." he mumbles, watching how they'd calm down.

"...What is it ?"

"Let me hold you this time."

"Excuse me ?"

Ashwatthama towers over them again, lying on their other side, his hands sneaking around their naked body.

"--Feel like i won't be able to sleep unless i do it."

His hug feels like he's lovingly holding onto a plushie and Kāma knows that if this goes on, they might explode. Goodness, this was embarrassing.

They were definitely awake now. His embrace being so gentle, and his soft skin pressing against their back did not help. This arrogance of his...!

They really had to punish him for this one.

But, for now... they shall allow him to enjoy the feeling of cuddling his deity. Yes.

"...What were you dreaming about ?" they ask after a little while, forgetting that he could've fallen asleep in the meantime.

"My father."

Relaxing in his embrace, they close their eyes. "Do you miss him ?"

"Sometimes, i guess. But I'm a servant now, so, thinking about my parents doesn't cross my mind very often. I'm busy fighting, you know. Sorry if you heard me in my sleep, I... uh... didn't know I sleep talked." he speaks slowly, gentle glows emanating from Kāma's hair reassuring him like a night light.

"It's fine." their voice grows weaker and this next pause is a little longer than usual.

"...Ashwatthama."

"...Hm?"

"Do you regret what you've done ?"

He has a bit of trouble breathing, all of a sudden. Of all the people, that could've asked him this question... ! This singular question. His mouth hangs open a little, eyes blinking as he stared down at their face he could barely even see.

Inquiring such a thing... Kāmadeva asking him this question now, of all times is...

His chest feels warm.

Ashwatthama leans back a little, turning them so he could face them, desperately fighting back the urge to hug his God again. He had no idea why he felt like this. This was so foreign. But he would always act before thinking.

"Your grace--" he whispers, feeling like he was about to say something so important the sky would fall.

A gentle sigh escapes them.

He freezes.

...They were sound asleep.

He feels like an idiot. They got him so damn good. They got him real good. All he can do for a few seconds is chuckle like every embarrassed adult does. Ashwatthama leans forward, shyly pecking their lips, observing the endless dark of their hair until his eyes begin to close.

It's fine.

They'll talk again some other night.
