LOL at what point do Asians have friends and love interests that aren’t completely white? It would be nice to see us interact with other people of color.

I'm kinda :/ on the skye to daisy name change. (my thought and feelings, not a discourse thing, I love my girl no matter what)
.. I guess it feels like reclaiming her heritage. 1/2 Asian and disconnected from my roots, she is the only character I have ever felt I can identify with. I understand wanting to honor the people her parents were. she came from a place where she was called daisy. she found a lost part of herself, and she can't just erase it bc it's not perfect or good. it will always be a part of her, and she can't run from it or leave it completely behind
but also, she built herself from the ground up and chooses to call herself skye. she chose that. (my trans ass over here still can't choose a name lol) she had a sucky name and she chose to give herself a better 9ne. and as someone with..mixed feelings about my own parents, i understand she would want to cling to those moments when she was wanted and loved but, ultimately they were bad people.
I wish we could see her process season 2 a bit more. because trust me, moms that love you to death and also want to dead are..... a lot to deal with. was she mad at them? sad, disappointed, confused? SHE SHOULD HAVE EXPLORED THAT!! I wish we could see why she choose to change her name, and the process
also, if u could rb with ur opinion that would be cool. I just wanna see what other people think. also be nice btw pls.

not saying anything new but it bugs the shit out of me as a researcher when an article talks about "asian filmmakers in hollywood" and then the filmmakers in question are (almost always) exclusively east asian. like......asia is more than east asia. do americans know that? like it's a 3rd of the world's regions, including the "middle east." i really think the term "asian" is just unhelpful on every level other than as a label for a continent, and should be retired as a term denoting ethnicity or culture, etc

this was made especially for those of us who cut ties with our shitty families, huh

i cried so much this whole episode. i know that i can't be in that house and be who i am at the same time, but the guilt and shame never really go away. i love that this episode said, wholeheartedly: fuck what society says, you should be wherever allows you to be happiest
anyway! you always hear that family estrangement is rare in asian communities, but i did it! and you can do it, too! dump your shitty family! i believe in you~

I’ve decided to try to counteract the racism against Pavitr by unleashing as many in-character takes about him as possible. Is it gonna work? Probably not. I just refuse to have racists take another good thing away from me.

It's a wonder they got away with the human zoo episode of SU at all. It should've received enough backlash to be canceled the moment they conceived of it.
Honestly that stuff being aired doesn't surprise me
TV shows will push a lot of violence towards poc, regardless of the age range for the targeted audience
LGBT+ content though? Can't show two women kissing or anything, that's too much for the kiddos
And I guess that's part of the reason people don't want to hear any criticism of these shows, because they brought LGBT rep to kids' shows. Thing is, that doesnt excuse the racism

okay so.
i have seen a pattern lately and i am not gonna let it slide. i know that fancasts in general are a way bigger debate than they should be in this fandom, and i’ve loved the spike in diversity between them thats come up recently! i genuinely don’t care about fancasts or have any real faces in mind when i picture these characters, but if you like to, good on you.
here is where i have been very frustrated lately: some of y’all seem to really struggle understand that asian ethnicities are not interchangeable. its become a really popular (and very lovely!) hc to picture sirius and regulus as asian. i love to see it! but i have seen people throw together a korean and a vietnamese person and go: “ta-da! sirius and regulus!” i have seen them defend their choices to asian people by saying some variation of “it doesn’t matter” “they look similar enough” or even just straight-up “well, they’re both asian” and like. it makes my fucking blood boil.
it’s one thing if it’s an honest mistake. it is entirely another if an asian person calls you on it and you decide that it truly doesn’t matter to you.
i could get into the harm that the cross-race effect has, but really i just need to say that perpetuating the idea that all asians look the same is inherently problematic. if you are the kind of person to declare that you see no difference or that there is no difference between different asian ethnicities: you are promoting a long-standing racist ideology and i’m sick and fucking tired of seeing it.
i (again) genuinely do not care about fancasts. picture whenever you’d like as whomever you’d like! but the moment that you cross the line into “whatever they’re both close enough”, that is where i will take issue with it. if that’s an idea that you carry with you outside of fandom spaces: THAT is what the problem is.
japanese people, vietnamese people, chinese, korean, philippine, desi, north south east west fucking ALL OF US have deep and rich cultural backgrounds and distinct features that differentiate us and make us all beautifully unique.
it matters to people. it matters in characters. in the media. in life in general. don’t fucking erase that because you can’t differentiate. do not knowingly and willingly erase us.
either take the time to learn and recognize that or stay in your fucking lane.
