An Asian vine snake in Vietnam. The snake was encountered while the photographer was working with a community living close to the habitat of the last two viable populations of the critically endangered Tonkin snub-nosed monkey

💚The Asian Vine Snake (Ahaetulla prasina), native to southern Asia, can grow to a length of 6 feet. They have a stunning geometric pattern in their scales, along with a long, pointed snout.

Uncharismatic Fact of the Day
While most snakes feed on mammals, reptiles, and birds, the Burmese vine snake has a completely different diet: fish! Their thin bodies allow them to hang out over water, mimicking the surrounding vines, and wait to ambush prey that venture too close to the surface.

Absolute worst first snakes?
Ooh, fun subversion on what I usually get asked! :)
Anything hot, definitely. Snakes with medically significant venom are bad pets full stop, but for a beginner? Yikes. We have a rattlesnake at my venom lab who was surrendered to us because he was bought by a guy who thought he looked cool, then almost bit him literally two days later. Talk about a wake-up call!
Giant snakes, like Burmese pythons or reticulated pythons.
Fragile, advanced-level species. Brazilian rainbow boas come to mind - I hear of some people getting those as a first occasionally and it always scares me, the adults aren't hard at all but the babies can crash very fast if their humidity isn't as close to 100% as you can push it. Dragonsnakes are another that really stand out.
Speaking of, really any snake with high humidity requirements. High humidity is so easy for beginners to get wrong.
Any snakes that are nearly impossible to get on f/t rodents. Asian vine snakes, for example.
Any exceptionally physically fragile snakes, like green tree pythons or Amazon tree boas. Nearly every ATB I've seen as an owner surrender had a broken tail.
Wild-caught snakes. They're not socialized, obviously, they won't be used to eating f/t meals, they'll come with injuries and parasites more often than not...just buy captive-bred!

Pink Dragon Box [IMG ID: A series of pictures of a wooden box, painted with a dragon-design. From top: A metallic blue sky melding into purple and pink at the bottom. Spiral-stylised clouds rimmed in gold float through the sky and there is a large snake-style / vaguely Asian-style dragon at forefront. The dragon has black horns, neon pink scales, white scutes rimmed in gold and black horns. It has a small mane and tail in pale green highlighted in blue. Two separate pictures depict the sides of the box, featuring parts of the dragon winding off the edge of the bottom. The last photo shows the inside of the box, which is painted in black with golden highlights including a stylised sun and sunbeams in the top, winding vines in the bottom and my initials. The edges are lined in gold ribbon. /END IMG ID]. A pencil box I painted for myself to keep my drawing pencils, erasers, sharpeners, pens, etc. in. Acrylic on wood with gold ribbon trim. Lots of metallics and neons.

kaiser blue lock is an asian dragon evidence.
—slitted pupils
—ch.218 isagi's imagined a two-headed asian dragon representing basmün, the same chapter draws attention to kaiser's hair being split in two suggesting the comparison between the dragon and kaiser is deliberate (kaiser has at other parts of blue lock represented basmün too)
—the cross-cultural element in kaiser's story: the blue rose (an impossible flower) was created by a team of japanese and australian scientists which changed its meaning from "impossibility" to "dreams coming true". since kaiser's blue rose ideal bloomed in japan, having his identity incorporate a japanese/asian beast is only fitting
—snuffy is a firebird. v.italy thematically is a battle of ideals between snuffy and noa+kaiser, with noa's rationality defeated the only two ideals left are "work" and "belief" both ideals created from the gap between dreams and reality and as king and emperor snuffy-kaiser are connected thematically by dreams as well. since snuffy is a mythical beast it makes sense for kaiser to be a creature of myth too
—dragons being creatures of myth fits with how kaiser's thing is denying "impossibility" he is in every sense an existence that should not be real
—asian dragons associated with emperors and the divine, kaiser being "emperor gifted to the world by god"
asian dragons being more snake-like in appearance could visually be similar to the rose vines that wrap around kaiser? either way kaiser is an asian dragon with the superficial appearance of the world's hissiest kitten
