Inspired by your thoughts on tea, since we know Soap makes fun of Ghost during the Alone mission for asking for a cuppa... do you think Soap would make tea for his wife? Tease her about it but always make sure her favored brand is in the pantry?

Umm...I might have gone a little overboard with this. Oopsies. (But I loved it so much!!)

Johnny would absolutely tease his love for your certain affection and acquired tastes towards tea.

Always muttering little quips under his breath as you meticulously scrutinize the herbal tea aisle of the grocery store for the better part of half an hour.

"Steamin Jesus, gonnae be growin' roots inta th'floor if this takes any longer."

You roll your eyes at him. Too lost in mulling over whether to go with the tried and true chamomile tea bags you've been using for years, or venture out and take a chance on the loose tea you've been reading so much about.

You decide, after much internal deliberation, to go with both.

Once at the checkout lane, you survey the ever growing line of products and can't help but notice that two of your newly cherished items seemed to have miraculously disappeared.

"What's th' bloody difference?" Soap's sudden interjection pulls your eyes towards him. Holding both boxes in his hands, eyes shifting back and forth to give each parcel a quick yet thorough inspection.

"Th's ones tea in a bag. And th's ones loose. So what, ones caged and th'others free range?"

"It's basic chemistry, smartass," you snap back. Snatching both boxes out of his hands, adding them back to the line along the grocery belt.

"You should know something about that, Soap. Being a demolitions expert and all."

"Aye, I am. Rarely havin' to deal wit botanicals though, sweetheart."

An amused sigh escapes your lips, shaking your head as you point to each box and explain in lamens' terms the difference to the ill educated Scot.

"Tea bags are good for quick steaps, inexpensive and easily accessible. But they also grow bitter quickly, are only good for one-time use, and generally have one dominant aromatic note."

You give him pause, narrowing your eyes and gander whether he's understanding your descriptive breakdown or altogether lost like a deer in headlights. His cocked eyebrow indicates the former, allowing you to continue.

"Loose tea has numerous aromatic tones, a longer shelf life, greater variety, and one scoop can be brewed multiple times. Yes, they're quite a bit more expensive and take longer to steap, but the pros outweigh the cons pretty unanimously."

"So why ya buyin' both then, bonnie?"

"The same reason you buy two bottles of the same whisky? One single malt and the other blended. Different brewing styles bring out different keynotes in taste. It's simple chemistry and, why are you looking at me like that?"

You question abruptly. His cerulean eyes gazing upon you with the warmth of a summer's dawn. And carrying with it a smile that would make any young mare weak and tremble at the knees.

"Yer so fuckin' cute when ya go on a tangent like that, bonnie. Cannae help but get lost in ya," he whispers. His thumb gently wrapping around the curve of your chin as he leisurely closes the distance between you.

"Um. Excuse me?"

A sudden, unfamiliar voice tears you both out of your enchanting eye lock, forcing you to break from his gaze and focus on the somewhat embarrassed expression of the young cashier.

"That'll be $78.95, ma'am."

Not even two months later, you turned John MacTavish into a class act tea brewing connoisseur. Something about the chemical intricacies of it seemed to pull at the explosive alchemy that flowed so easily within his mind.

Boiling the water to the perfect alloted time and temperature. Pouring it carefully over the filled infuser that he measured out like an artisanly skilled brewer. He even had an app that would indicate the steeping time for each distinct batch of tea leaves.

And as he brought the expertly steeped brew up to you in bed, you couldn't help but give yourself a theoretical pat on the back to turning the once tea scoffing Scot into a true master brewer.

"Simon would be proud, John." You teased, bringing the porcelain rim of elegantly decorated cup to your lip.

And Soap answered first with a icy glare, followed quickly by his typical brogish banter.

"Donnae fuckin' dare, lass."

Armand question: who’s Armand’s endgame? (Daniel or…?) Does he even have one?

Hi Anon!

Your question actually goes into a theory I've been starting to have, so I'm going to throw that in at the end of this answer.

So, within the first three books in the series, at least, you can say Armand's larger goal usually is, at its core, finding a companion that'll help him connect to the world.

Armand actually wanted Lestat to be his companion when they encountered each other. Lestat turned Armand down, basically with a "you and I wouldn't work out together," which more or less pissed Armand off. (And it's been antagonistic between them ever since. But don't get it twisted - if Armand could have Lestat in that way, if Lestat was at all interested, Armand would jump at the chance.)

When we meet Armand again in Interview with the Vampire, it's Louis Armand gets eyes on for a companion. Which he ends up getting for a time (a long time). By the time Louis gave his first interview, he and Armand had split up though.

Armand encounters Daniel after that first interview happened and, after a time, Daniel becomes his companion and his connection to the modern world.

Armand is basically the story's main antagonist within the first two books, only starting to not be one by the third. And my guess is the show is going to have him in a similar role here, especially for S2, since it will for sure be covering the latter half of the IWTV book at the very least. Which is when Armand goes hard in his endgame to make Louis his companion.

As in the book, I think Armand has lied to both Lestat and Louis that the other is dead. All to keep Louis with him.

Where Daniel fits into this, I can only guess. But I don't think it's a coincidence that the show has Armand's book-canon endgame companion/lover in the story here. And that Daniel clearly has missing memories about Armand, as was confirmed in that final scene.

In Queen of the Damned, when Armand had Daniel by his side, his full obsession was with Daniel. He even saw Daniel as a gift to him from Louis.

As far as the show goes, I think Armand's goal has been to keep Louis by his side. I don't think he's BS-ing about Louis wanting to kill himself. But I'm also not sure that Daniel is even going to be allowed to publish this book now, at least to the wider world, that would have Vampires coming to try and kill Louis for it. Because there was clearly a set narrative that was supposed to be told to Daniel for that book. But Daniel is way better at his job than he was back in 1973, and he was able to crack through that set narrative.

My feeling is that Daniel is for sure not leaving that tower penthouse apartment. He's as much trapped in that gilded cage as Louis is now.

And this is where my theory/speculation comes in:

Armand, in the book, would keep humans as pets. And I think we're going to see his character doing that in Season 2. Daniel himself was pretty much a pet at the start of his entanglement with Armand in the QotD book, before Armand fell in love with him.

And I think show-Daniel was that very thing at one time too. Back when he was younger. A very beloved pet - "our boy" - but a pet nonetheless.

But, unlike Armand's other human pets in the book, Daniel was never killed by him. And Armand, due to his love for Daniel, eventually turned Daniel when he was dying.

In the show, Daniel was clearly not killed or turned. I think he was let go instead, with altered memories. Because I think Daniel was with Armand and Louis for longer and more than just that failed interview night in 1973.

I think for sure that Louis and Lestat are endgame on the show. But I do not think there is going to be any sort of extended love triangle between Lestat, Louis, and Armand. Louis chose Lestat over his beloved Claudia. If in full possession of himself and knowing Lestat is alive, Louis would choose Lestat over Armand every single time. Which is why Armand even has to manipulate to have Louis with him now.

So, I'm pretty sure, at the moment, that Daniel is Armand's true endgame. Even though I don't think Daniel nor Armand know that themselves yet. (Daniel because his memories have been altered, Armand because he's still locked in with Louis.) But that is the course I think they, and the show, are headed.

just thinking that billy would love it if his partner was a passenger princess hdkdjsj 🫠 he very obviously loves his camaro and driving for him is a way to relax so he’d drive you everywhere even if you didn’t ask for it. midnight cravings from a restaurant across the city? he’s waiting on your driveway. got a meeting w your friends? he’s driving you and picking you up to make sure you get there safe. just made myself cry

so i'm going to answer this two different ways actually... the first being a partner that would fall into the passenger seat easily. and the second more reluctantly... (because i think it will be kind of comedic and much like myself... and i'm a wee bit selfish sometimes 🤫)

so first off. i couldn't agree more babe. this boy is 100%, hands on a hardbody with his car. he's touching that thing even if he's not driving it. leaning on it. sitting on the hood. reclining against it to smoke... it's the closest thing to a security blanket as he can get. and now that he's got you? well, he's gonna wrap you up in it. make you feel as secure as he does with it.

the small smile that pricks the edge of his cheeks when he catches you waiting expectantly by the passenger door. the way you kick back and snuggle into your seat as he revs the engine and turns up the music. the contented look in your eyes just makes his heart swell.

he loves the little looks you get when you're itching to go somewhere. when you've had a bad day. the sulking pout that sticks to your lips, as you dig your hand into his jacket pocket. thumbing at his car keys. the subtle stomp to your walk if he's not quick enough to the parking lot.

maybe you've become a little too dependent? but oh does he love feeling wanted. holding your hand out across the console until he takes it. entwining your fingers. you humming happily. having learned the melody to many of his tapes by now.

now for version 2.

being billy's passenger 'princess' is not something you easily gave into. you had your own car. and your own mind about things...

you agreed to being picked up for your first date, because that's customary. but for many other events you didn't want to rely on him. you didn't like the idea of being a passenger. of being driven and taken places. you were used to doing everything for yourself.

the occasional little comments he'd let slip. how "women can't drive worth shit..." as he'd blow a stop sign, or broadside a curb on a turn. and you'd have to suppress an exaggerated eye roll.

billy probably didn't recognize he was pushing or overstepping at first either. he knows what he's comfortable with. and that's his camaro. his tapes. the heat cranked when the temp drops below 50 because he doesn't want to wear anything over his denim in the car. or admit he gets cold... so he insists he'll drive. he'll come get you. you'll take his car to the debate tournament, or the habitats for humanities outing, or god forbid... to see the spring musical.

you give in bit by bit. because you want to keep the peace. but you begin to miss your own ride. you don't get to touch anything. too hot? too bad. music too loud? you can forget about it. you didn't need your hearing anyways. wanted to adjust your seat? illegal.

you feel like a stiff display dummy riding in his whip sometimes. not relaxed. and moody.

eventually he starts to catch on to his own rigidity. and lets you claim a station presetting. 86.9FM. that's yours. button 6.

suddenly a couple cassettes you like make their way into the tape deck. and they stay on standby in the center console. along with a pair of your shades.

things start to feel easier. when one day you ask "can we go for a drive?" his keys clutched in your fingers. he looked shocked. lips slack, perking up into hefty grin. "yah, we can do that..."

Im a longtime Ethan Ramsey stan and love your take on his personality. It's more realistic based on what we know about him in canon but still uniquely yours. Some creators make him seem like he's in his 50s when he's only mid to late 30s. I'm roughly the same age so it annoys me because that's not what being in your 30s is like. Now my ask: do you think there are OH creators that don't like him (or were anti-Ethan before) now create Ethan content because it will get notes?

Hey Nonnie. Thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate it.

I admit I struggled with the renditions of Ethan when I first joined the fandom. I don't think it's too bad now, but since you're a longtime stan, you would've seen more of it than me. I'm in the same demographic and/or know guys in their mid- to late-30s. They're not grumpy old men, for sure, in attitude or looks. Rather, they're reaching the prime of their lives when there is more confidence intellectually. Even physically, they're in the best shape ever (if they choose to be, of course). We know Ethan exercises regularly and eats a healthy diet more often than not, the odd Nigella dish notwithstanding.

I've always likened Ethan to an older Millennial. That generation embraced technology like no other because they were at the forefront of it. But they also know the risks. So, Ethan in Lia Land is not a Luddite. He's just busy and a private person. He'll scroll through his phone for news and research (and to spy on Cassie), but isn't rushing off to share his life on social media.

As to your ask, notes don't equate to dollars. So, I've never understood people who would write a certain story just for that. Writing is a creative endeavor, and you have to believe in the character and their arc. So, if there is anyone like that (and I'm not aware of any fandom creators who are, so this is not a dig at anyone), then I wonder how authentic their portrayal of a character or pairing could be. As a reader, I can always tell when a writer genuinely enjoys the world they've created for their pairing / MC / OC. And that makes me enjoy their stories more because I get sucked in.

Hi! You seem quite knowledgeable in this, so I though you might be the right person to ask: I'm trying to find some nice heart pirates fics with them as family doing shenanigans/general stuff. Most of the fics I've found in the Heart Pirates tag in ao3 revolve around a ship involving law and the hearts are just background characters who barely do anything, which isn't what I'm looking for. Do you have any recommendations? (I've already read some of your works, but if you want to recommend those that's good too!)

Platonic Heart Pirates Fics Rec List

Wow! huge compliment.

Yeah, I wouldn't classify myself as a Hearts Pirates writer, but I do write them. I think my best characterisations of them are in my multi-chaptered works, but they're super dark, and the Hearts aren't the focus (but boy do they shine when they get the chance!).

You've probably come across my Bepo's one shots and drabble collection. There's a few shippy pieces in there, but they're clearly marked. Most are just the crew, although focus on the main four. This was also done for the Hearts' Pirates Week, so covers all named crew members (up to that point). This one shot is surprisingly popular: Dark like the North Blue Sea (aka The Sea-Hill you Die On), and you might have come across the Straw Hat and Heart Pirates crews intermingling in this fic featuring Bepo and Chopper. I'm also guessing that you probably saw the piece I wrote for the op summer festival zine: Sun Path Ozoni. An earlier version of that is in Bepo's collection! There's also Bepo's Beptober, which features everyone, but I wouldn't really say explores them in depth!

Okay, RECS!

Any of the fics with the Hearts Pirate tag by @op-sheepy Here's a link to their AO3 dash. There are quite a few Heart Pirate drabbles on their tumblr page too.

@itsxandy 's work, stormy weather, is criminally under-read. That's 22,2221 amazing words on Law's dynamic with the crew in the polar tang in close quarters. Not necessarily happy families, but, oof, it's good. Even a very plausible theory put forward for the recruitment of Clione, I think! Or maybe Uni.

Dragon_in_a_Cypress_swamp has 6 amazing Hearts & Trafalgar Law fics too. Really good (I haven't read all, but what I have read just blows me away).

This is not a place of honor by Hyperbolic Reverie (I'm not guaranteeing that all the fics are sweet). And you've probably come across

the devil knows how to row by fab_ia, is set in Law Novel land, but with flashbacks to Law's time with the Donquixote Family. It's a work in progress. But very good. The author is keats on twitter, and I think one of the guest writers for the up coming Hearts zine. Their AO3 actually has a few Hearts' fics I want to pick through.

Dunno if this counts, but the Scrubs AU with Penguin and Shachi as Law's interns, and Bepo as a trusty nurse is both hilarious and poignant. @thegrimshapeofyoursmile

Cal14's recently been uploading some of their tumblr pieces.

@slashseeker (not getting their blog come up) has some platonic stuff on their AO3 page (their slash is pretty good too though!).

And that's about all I know for now. I'm sure you've read / been pointed towards the big collection: Tales from the Heart.

Almost forgot! If you go through @purplehairedwonder 's page, towards the start of beginning to write OP (so second page), there are about 5 fics that I'd classify as Heart centric, or the Hearts seen through Law's eyes. Not necessarily shenanigans though.

It is a ship fic, and it started before a lot of the Heart Pirates were named, but razbliuto's Methyl Nitrate Pirates really builds character and crew (and it's funny). @fablecore

What drew you to Victor's skating? Why were you such a huge fan?

OOH OKAY I am down for this question anon. I could talk about my husband all day.

So, anyone who knows about me knows I was a massive fan of Viktor's before we started dating. He was my first real crush. I remember the first time I saw him, really saw him. I'd heard the name, of course, but I hadn't really paid much attention until then.

It was the 05 Junior Worlds, his last and the one he won. I was blown away. He was incredible, even at so young an age. The way he moved, jumped, and spun was something no one had ever seen before. He won the Olympics the following year, and for good reason.

My friend Yuuko and I used to gush about him. I'm sure Takeshi (our friend and her now husband) probably got sick of it. I copied him long before the viral video of me skating to Stammi Vicino. I looked up to him a lot.

He brushes it off, but there's a good reason he's considered the GOAT. What he had - and still has - was something that will never be matched. At least in my opinion. That's the good thing about sport being subjective; there are many opinions! Many of today's top skaters - if not all of them - looked up to Viktor, and for good reason. He was special. He was great at everything and brought it together in a way no one had before.

He was the youngest Men's Singles Champion in history. Yuri would beat, but that was a team event medal, so for Singles Gold, that record still stands and is unlikely to be beaten. His Russian Nats and Euros records will probably never be beaten. He has others that have been beaten or are tied, but it still doesn't change what he did for the sport. None of the skaters who came after him - myself and even Chris included - would have been the same without him.

When he first started coaching me, I had to learn who Viktor the man was, as I thought he was a literal god on ice. I'm so glad I did. I'm honored to not only be his husband but to be his co-coach, so we can help guide the next generation!
