i dont mean this in a hostile way at all, im just genuinely curious, but why is it a *bad* thing to (as that post puts it) have fandom brain? and only focus on shipping? i dont really understand why you should *have* to engage with a series a specific way /genuine question /light hearted you dont have to answer this at all, feel free to delete

It's not a bad thing, and you shouldn't have to engage with the canonical text of a piece of fiction if you don't want to.

It'd just be nice if there was like, a better way to separate the people who want to play ships with the characters without paying attention to the actual canon of the source material, and the people who want to ship characters and create fandom material that interacts and engages with the actual meaningful canon of the text.

It really sucks that the people who want to play paper-dolls with the images of characters have to see the stuff by people who want to seriously discuss the often ugly and unpleasant ideas that are in canon.

And it sucks the the people who want to seriously discuss and engage with the often ugly and unpleasant things in canon aren't able to separate out the stuff by the people who just want to play with paper dollies.

It sucks because it's hard to tell at a glance who is playing paper dolls, and who is trying to meaningfully engage with the text, and that very often leads to unfortunate infights and misunderstandings by people who are having two very different conversations.

I don't want to step on anybody's playtime or make people feel bad about playing imaginationland with characters from a series I like.

But I also don't want to be punished and hated on for actually interrogating the text of that series and the things that happen in it.

heyy!! i was reading the switcheroo comic’s on tapas again and i became a little confused about the timeline:

In the canon universe, when Pink died, the Diamonds immediately used your demage on eath. In the AU Spinel get out of the garden after she knew that Pink died, but Jasper mention that Spinel fight in the war.

Sooo, in your AU, The Diamond’s Final Attack happed really after Pink False Death? Because Spinel won’t turn a “monster” in the war just in a silly time, right?

Personally I don't feel the Diamond attack happened immediately after Pink's "shattering". I imagine it had to be reported and confirmed first and the Diamonds would have reacted in grief before deciding what to do. So there could easily have been a few years, even decades or more between Pink's "shattering" and the corruption wave. The war timeline is pretty vague in show (and has a major plothole if you take some characters at their word.)

I drew up this little timeline for the AU before, but these days I'm starting to think the "1,000 years" of war Pearl talks about is the time from the colony starting to the time the war ended, the war itself could have been a few centuries for all we know.

You blink at her for a second in confusion and drop into your own chair, trying to member the name. It vaguely rang a bell. Maybe-

You blink a few more seconds and half shrug, "He was cute I guess but... weird."

"Weird how?" she asked smiling a little. She could tell you were being polite. Something rubbed you the wrong way. Wrong enough that you were quite frankly offended.

"I don't know I just- maybe he was having a bad day or something/"

"Rude?"

"Abrupt."

Barbara nodded and took a bite of her yogurt, deciding to leave it alone for now. "You were right, the Cotton Candy and the Vanilla are nice... I still don't see how you can eat cold gummy bears."

"I fucking love ice cream," you answer shrugging, "If I put gummy bears in it makes me slow down so I don't get brain freeze."

"You could just eat it slower," she snorted.

"That requires impulse control," you answer. "And who has room for that."

And not for the first time, Barbra wondered how Dick had this unerring radar for people who had each other's WORST traits and trying to put them together.

"I understand," Tim replied coolly, his nerves well masked as he feigned inspecting his nails, "you think you're better than this." Tim waved his hand airily, gesturing around the windowless room. "After everything you've done, all the people you've hurt- you'd at least earned going out with a bang, right?"

Tim smiled, a grim little thing. The Clown glared harder at him from his spot in the chair. He watched as the man shifted slightly, attempting to loosen his bonds-

It wouldn't work. Tim was nothing if not incredibly, terribly thorough. It wasn't arrogance to say he had the Clown exactly where he wanted him- it was a result of preparation.

Joker seemed to pick up on his predicament, the longer he went on letting him struggle. Eventually he spoke up again, usually shrill voice heightened in panic.

"Batsy's gonna swoop in and stop you, you little pest! He'd never let me-"

"-Batman is on an off-world mission for the next two days." Tim interrupted, stepping further into the room. "That gives us plenty of time."

Her tail is huge its absurd and really anyone would think it's uncomfortable but surprisingly she's used to it her other tail was cut off a long time ago from a battle in a time long forgotten yet its still long enough for it to move/ wag

She usually wears boots or a more advanced model of shadows air/rocket shoes

But she most often wears a scientist outfit

A good example of her prostetic ,is a gold bronze like color, yet it is made from a metal far stronger than the known strongest metal

Nah, I agree with you, there should be a separation between canon related content and fanon related content. And that Headcanons aren't actual canon and cannot be imposed onto others.

I remember when my partner had to leave the fandom bc they didn't think that Apollo was trans or bc they hced Miles as aroace. The amount of hate and threats they got just bc they didn't abide with the popular fanon material was wild.

Yeah, anon that is the actual problem. There's nothing wrong with headcanons-- it's pushing them on other people who don't share them and treating them like they're canon, and treating people who don't share popular headcanons like they're scum that's the problem.

I'm sorry your partner went through that. I hope together we can all build a fandom that is more welcoming and open for fans of all kinds to enjoy.

In honor of StrickLake month, what are your favorite headcannons about their relationship from the show?

Okay. I was working on answering this, but it all got deleted. 😭

Anyway. I do have loads of HC's about Stricklake. But I'll keep them short, anyone else is welcome to add on their own headcanons, I like to see them!

I am a firm believer that the only reason Barbara allowed Strickler back into her life was because he didn't come back to win her favour again, he came back to help in whatever way was needed. And he apologised. (I refuse to think he didn't apologise to Barbara off screen).

This doesn't probably need saying but Barbara was the first to fall in love. For Walter it took a while to realise his feelings were true and by then he thought at the time he was too late.

Barbara and Strickler's relationship was firmly based on friendship first. That strong bond was more important to Barbara than their romantic relationship, and that is probably why they ended up together again.

Walter has a lot of insecurities around his troll form, and it took a while for Barbara to convice him she loved him for who he really was, not what he was pretending to be. After a few months, Strickler began to truly be comfortable in his actual skin.

For a long time in the early days of their relationship, Strickler thought it was taking Barbara out and showering her in gifts that made a relationship. Only after the Eternal night did he realise it was small, domestic things that actually mattered. Cooking Barbara breakfast, cleaning the house, caring for the familiars, caring for JIM.
