Made a post about my 3 things I want to see with every Wonder Woman adaptation, despite needing to do some catching up myself. Related, do you have a link to a Wonder Woman reading list?
https://at.tumblr.com/paigeoforacle/1-keep-fights-to-a-minimum/k7nbubhe1qws
Nice list!
As for my Wonder Woman recs list....technically, yes. I made a Wonder Woman starter recs list way back in 2017 right after the movie came out. However, it's outdated, I've changed my opinion on some of the things I said there as I've read more Wonder Woman comics, and it also fails to include several good comics. So here's my current Wonder Woman recs list:
Starter comics: These are great comics to read if you're new to Wonder Woman comics or only have a passing familiarity with her:
Wonder Woman: Year One, by Greg Rucka
Wonder Woman (1987) #1-62, by George Perez
Wonder Woman: The Hiketeia, by Greg Rucka
JLA: League of One, by Christopher Moeller
The Legend of Wonder Woman, by Ray Dillion and Renee De Liz
Wonder Woman: Historia, by Kelly Sue DeConnick
Wonder Woman (1987) #170, by Phil Jimenez (the Diana-Lois 'Day in the Life' issue)
"Generations" from Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman, by Michael Jelenic (Issue #12 digitally, Issue #7 print)
Wonder Woman: Our Worlds At War, by Phil Jimenez (warning: this oneshot ties into the "Our Wolds at War" event, so the frame story will probably be confusing, but the majority of the story is a solid retelling of the collective Amazonian history up to that point)
Second-level comics: read these once you have a baseline familarity with Diana and her supporting cast:
Wonder Woman by Phil Jimenez, including Paradise Lost/Paradise Found (which I don't think are in the current Jimenez omnibus)
Wonder Woman by Greg Rucka (his first run on the title), with a particular call-out for the Medusa arc
Wonder Woman: The Circle and Ends of the Earth, by Gail Simone
Wonder Woman Rebirth (2016), by Greg Rucka (Rucka's second run; everything except Year One fits here)
Wonder Woman: The Twelve Labors (WW 1942 #212-222), by Len Wein and assorted other writers
Wonder Woman/Justice League Dark: The Witching Hour, by James Tynion IV
Wonder Woman: Lords and Liars by Mariko Tamaki
All of the comics on both lists are great; I have no hesitation recommending any of them. However, I will give a blanket warning for sexual assault in the Amazons' backstory, particularly during the seminal Perez run (which is very dated in how it handles the topic, unfortunately), and put a general note that while I can't think of anything outright offensive, various social issues are not always handled with grace (especially in the older runs).
Comics featuring the Wonderfam supporting cast:
New Teen Titans: Who is Donna Troy?, by Marv Wolfman*
Titans (1999), by Devin Grayson (for Donna)*
The Return of Donna Troy, by Phil Jimenez (collected in The Death and Return of Donna Troy)*
Wonder Woman: Lifelines (WW 1987 #105-108) and WW #109-113, by John Byrne (Cassie Sandsmark's introduction)
Young Justice (1998), by Peter David (for Cassie)*
Nubia and the Amazons, by Stephanie Williams and Vita Ayala*
Nubia: Queen of the Amazons, by Stephanie Williams and Vita Ayala*
Wonder Woman: The Contest (WW 1987 #0 and #90-100), by William Messner-Loebs (for Artemis of Bana-Mighdall)
Artemis: Requiem, by William Messner-Loebs (Note: this is not actually recommended reading. It's utterly cursed and I wouldn't put it on here if it wasn't absolutely necessary to understand how Artemis isn't dead after "The Contest." Read everything else on this list before you read this mini)
Wonder Woman: Gods of Gotham (WW 1987 #164-167), by Phil Jimenez*
Red Hood and the Outlaws Rebirth (2016) #1-24, by Scott Lobdell (for post-Flashpoint!Artemis, who's basically a different character)
Future State: Wonder Woman, by Joelle Jones (Yara Flor)
Wonder Girl (2021), by Joelle Jones (for Yara) (Note: this run is "just okay" and I'm reccing it with several reservations. However, it's also Yara's most prominent comic to date)
I've starred the ones on this list that I actually recommend as "good comics to read" and not just "decent starter comics for the character." Warning for depictions of sexual assault, bad art if you're looking at a pre-2000s comic, and being forced to engage with Scott Lobdell and William Messner-Loebs' writing.
I also recommend DC Bombshells by Marguerite Bennett; it's an Elseworlds comic set in WWII that co-stars Diana and it's delightful. There's certainly others that are decent, but I think this is a solid starter list if you want to understand Wonder Woman and how she should be written.

I have a great idea for where we could send Desmond next. We should send him to Yara (Far Cry 6). It’s tropical island where he could be a bartender and help out the rebels overthrow the dictator. He would love it there. What do you think?
Desmond would be in such a strange situation in this one. Yara would definitely not be welcoming to any foreigners, especially considering the current situation (unless we’re making this about Desmond getting reborn as a Yaran?).
He’d definitely be in everyone’s ‘watch list’, not just the government but even the rebels.
Desmond would probably either go full stealth mode and create a Brotherhood behind both the government and the rebels, serving as a third party to both the government and the rebels (although there’s an uneasy alliance with the rebels because of his Brotherhood’s secrecy) or he’s juggling two lives, one as a strange bartender who everyone has an eye on and as the secret mentor of a fledgling Brotherhood.
The second one is more risky but it does give the story the chance for Desmond to outsmart everyone by pretending to be just a normal ‘flirty’ bartender when, in reality, he’s been slowly making his own Brotherhood and setting up an intelligence network.
Gameplay-wise, Desmond could be the bartender who gives Dani daily quests to get materials or maybe even a new currency they can use for something else.
Desmond would act like a nice dude who can’t get out of Yara because, well, things are pretty tense at the moment so he’s making good with what he has.
In the shadows, there’s a secret organization that’s undermining the government, with its actions being pointed at the rebels.
And no one can find any connections between Desmond and the Brotherhood.

Now I can’t stop thinking about Jaime Yara and Jason all together 😭 I feel like Yara and Jason argue all the time and try to tone it down around Jaime but they don’t even realize that Jaime loves it and actively instigates their fights all the time just to see them get mad
Anon, you're my one true love.
Thing is, Jaime gets them to fight over the dumbest shit. Who's the best dinosaur? The book or the movie? Is it possible to survive the Purge with no weapons?
How long would you last locked up in a room with a conservative pastor? Best Barbie movie? Mario or Luigi? Are ghosts real? Is New Jersey just a simulation?
Yara constantly accuses Jason of mansplaining when she's losing, and Jason simply suplexes her on the bed. Yara's go to tactic guaranteed debate victories is to choke him with her thighs
Jaime's always having the time of his life. I think he took the designated damsel in distress role.
his way of helping them with conflict solving is paying Tim to kidnap him so they work together. They're all unhinged just on different settings

It’s from last week when I asked people to send me emojis so I can get art ideas, I don’t think I’m gonna take any more for now and I’ll keep the rest in my inbox until I can either think of something to draw it with or I just give up and delete them

I mean for MCs that are excited that Danzor is gonna be their new dad, good for them, but as far as I'm concerned Uncle Belahm is our new dad. I mean look at that guy, dude practically adopted us the moment he saw us.
He and MC have that abandoment traumabond and we all know how strong those bonds are *cough* Irus *cough*
Anyway if nothing else let this ask be a "I love Uncle Belahm" ask
Belahm is #1 dad material 😂 he will happily stand up for the MC, much like Zikar and is happy to take on a fatherly role towards the MC. Honestly, I think the MC would have benefitted a lot if they grew up with Belahm and Yara as their substitute parents 😅
Thanks for showing some love for our favourite uncle!

Hi Yara, what are the three things you love most about Ace?
Tumblr media
"Ah, picking just three is so difficult, but if I had to, I'd say...
One, he's incredibly kind. Just the sweetest person. He goes out of his way to do things for others that I never would've thought of. I watched this man spend like a week crafting a giant hat for Oars Jr. just because he was concerned Oars would get too hot from being too close to the sun, or something of the like. I hadn't the heart to point out that the sun is millions of kilometres away and would likely have no greater impact on Oars than it would on us, even though he's a giant. The idea was so sweet, and from what I hear, Oars Jr. really appreciated it.
Two, he's so silly and fun. He's not afraid to be a goofball and is always the life of the party. I never have a bad time when we're out together. And he knows how to put a smile on my face like nothing else.
Three, he's devoted. Whether it's to me or to his brother or to his friends or to Pops, he puts his all into everything he does for us. I trust him with my life and my heart, to have my back in battle and to hold my hand when I'm feeling down.
Ace is so much like the sun. He's bright and all-consuming and sometimes I fear that if I look straight at him, I might melt away. I know he really struggles with his self-worth, and I wish so badly that he could see himself the way I see him: as the best thing that has ever happened to me."

She surprisingly (because she usually don't do well with sea creatures) has a pet turtle that she and Carina rescued once

Painting, but not exactly pictures or the like, she usually decorates pottery and nice stones or shells she finds; exploring and collecting things she find in these explorations; and gardening.

so how did you feel about trial of the amazons 👀? -joeysmuttonchops
Omg hiii!!!
I actually liked it!! Not as much as WG 2021, but it was a fun, solid introduction to Amazon characters for me, esp with the inter-group beef and what distinguishes the Bana-Migdhall from the others. There were so many fun interactions and it made me realize I honestly misconceived the Amazon characters as being very strict and boring before I started reading their comics.
The plot itself and the *lowers voice* murder??? Actually took me off guard 😭 I saw Hippolyta and Phillipus kissing and I was like “Awww lesbians” and then THAT happened and it was like oh nevermind we can’t have peace around here
Cassie playing detective was cute though, but Artemis baby what are you DOING????
I also enjoyed the parallels between Nubia stepping up as Queen and leader versus Diana acting more impulsive out of understandable grief, but towards the end Diana using the lessons she learned in man’s world made me EMOTIONAL omg! She had a really interesting role amongst the Amazons that I appreciated. And it was so fun seeing Diana be upset, unraveled and making questionable choices as opposed to the voice of reason role she carries in the JLA and JLD.
YARAAAAAA <333 Ong I posted before that Yara made me SO SAD while reading because I also miss my mom and find it so difficult to be around “family” without her. The Esquecida definitely love her!!! But her loneliness was so understandable and heartfelt for me. And omg the end with her and Diana 😭 She’s right!! Why are we calling a woman in her twenties Wonder Girl lmfaooooo (THO I LOVE THE FORESHADOWING FOR FUTURE STATE OMG I CANT WAIT TO READ THAT)
Watching Diana, Philipus, Donna, and Yara work together during the trial was another fave moment for me, esp when they were bickering while running for their lives 😭
So yeah it was enjoyable!! But that might change with the more Wonder stories I read haha. Up next I think i’m gonna go through Nubia’s books and Future State: Wonder Woman. I’ve also seen WW Vol 2 Year One recommended but for some reason I can’t find it online!!! :( I’ll keep looking.
Oh and yeah there was a lack of Donna tbh, like she had screen time (page time lol), but I didn’t feel much connection to her in this story like I usually do (i don’t talk about her often but I do like donna!!) and Artemis was also a bit underdeveloped so I gotta find out what’s going on there too
