🧐 Do you spend much time researching for your stories?

this... very much depends on the story. generally, for fanfiction, i don't do too much unless it's necessary. i kind of let myself just fall into the story and i often keep timelines sort of vague for that reason, though i will check chronology and facts about characters as necessary.

but for something like helping hands (and all the historical romance aus), i do some perfunctory research sort of throughout. like, what kind of clothing did people where, how did they travel, what did they eat, that sort of thing. i've done some research on the japanese military history (which is bolstered by my martial arts background, tbh, because it's something we often discussed in our studies), and the police force particularly for scent of a camellia. i also have watched a lot of weapons demonstration videos to figure out how a kyoketsu-shoge moves so i could describe it in fight scenes, lol.

as for my non-fanfic writing, i have done a lot of research on a bunch of very strange topics ranging from the prices and customization of caskets to the history of ice fishing and how long a brown rat can hold its breath. i like learning totally useless stuff for no reason whatsoever, lmao. i once watched a medical school autopsy video just so i coud make a halloween costume.

lately, most of what i've been listening to has been my running/workout playlist because i am training for something asdlfjasdf my fave songs from it currently are hot girl bummer by blackbear and good morning sunshine by the narcissist's cookbook. that second one def helps get my ass moving at 5AM when i would much rather be sleeping.

however, i do often listen to music while writing. either that or sometimes i will have an asmr video going in the background because it helps me focus. generally, i have some "mood" playlists that i will listen to when i'm writing specific types of things. like, i have a longing playlist and ones for melancholy and action. just stuff that generally has the vibe of what i'm trying to write.

some of my larger projects actually have soundtracks that i make for them, but don't typically share since they probably only make sense to me. some of them stay in the rotation long after the project is over, depending on how much i like the music i chose to fit it.

Very Short Stories

Underground (not started) - did you ever dream about digging yourself out of a grave?

Most boring job in the world (title will probably be changed, currently working on it) - everyone moves on in life but you nothing changes for you. Do you even exist?

(Some fun stories without a deeper meaning, currently both have romance elements)

Bloodthirst (not sure about the title, currently working on it) - Vampire master utterly obsessed with her fledgling. Neither of them can let the other go. (fxf - toxic romance)

X Files (not started) - exactly what the tile said, a short piece inspired by X Files, but both are women. (slight romance just like in the show)

Longer Series

(Smaller novellas, will turn into series. Maybe episodical)

Private detective J. Carver (in working, first instalment almost ready) - ex-policeman turned private detective Julian Carver works on cases police are deliberately not able to solve.

Amateur Detective Club (title to be changed, not started yet) - a group of young adults and a dog cruise around their town solving mysteries. Very clearly inspired by scooby doo but with adult themes + queer

oh, they are silver, my bad there is too many characters in TR that wear earrings ;-; what do you think of silver as a colour? apart from fanfic/cosplay, have you ever tried making anime edits? i started making youtube anime shorts yesterday and i like it where i do upload them online.

oh, loving vincent! i’ve heard of it, but haven’t watched it (yet?), no. it kinda sounds like something i’d enjoy though.

personally i only know three people who play genshin on their phone, but two of them are samsung users lol. my old laptop would heat up like crazy (i mean... it’s like 8 or 9 years old at this point) but with my current laptop i hardly have any issues regarding that. that said i’ve still got to play on low graphics settings because it just lags a ton otherwise, but i hardly mind that. (tho i haven’t been able to play genshin in weeks bc it keeps crashing for some reason :( i’m waiting it out & hoping an update of my laptop will fix it but who knows. i might get a ps5 for christmas though so i’ll at least be able to play it on there ig? and maybe sooner on a phone bc i definitely need a new one even sooner.)

ah, my meds. i’ve got a prescription now, but they’re out of sale until at the very least january :') i really like studying with classmates/friends bc i hardly have the motivation to study alone tbh but if there’s at least someone else i do. i’ve p much got a study bestie tho and for most subjects we study together :D

well where i live i’m pretty sure you can’t study marine biology since there is no ocean lmao. so i might just study biology & then move somewhere for the specifics? idk. but i’ve got lots of time to figure it out still lol yep, hopefully it’ll get better,, medicine is 5 years here too! forensic medicine is p much examining dead (human) bodies, either bc they died in the hospital/in an accident (so for science) or because they died an unnatural death (criminology). tho the forensic medicine field entails more than just forensic pathology (doing autopsies), e.g. you could be working at a lab doing dna testing.

ngl i hardly know anything abt the few kpop bands i listen to, i just enjoy their music lol. but yeah i’m sure she knows more.

no no i get it, there truly are a lot,, i like silver as a color, especially in jewlery! tbh i prefer it over gold in most contexts.

ohh edits,, no, i haven’t done anything apart from cosplay attempts, making merch, writing fic & doing art for fandom so far lol. i don’t use tiktok & hardly use youtube for fandom stuff though (i usually listen to asmr or hour long explanation vids on yt, not much more adhkgdfjf) but if i do come across edits somehow, i’m always excited :D imo they’re very fun, but i don’t have the right apps or space on my phone for them to make any.

Workshop with Noel and Dan, I really enjoyed this, it was nice to just put my focus into arranging the pieces and playing around with the screwdriver. Really refreshing to not feel so stressed and uptight for once, for the Demo exhibition I think I’ll enjoy the process and display it like this. I’ve been so stuck for so long and I realise that the perfect solution was to just preoccupy myself with a task (as simple as cutting, bending, and screwing in nails), it’s so enjoyable and doesn’t need to be stressful.

Some helpful feedback came out of this too, everyone agreed that this made it easier to actually see the images because there are no tiers blocking and disrupting the view. It allows a clearer way of reading the work, and it still retains that board-game aesthetic. Focuses more on design layout.

Feels as if you can grab any piece off the wall to play with it- has this gameplay connotation. Like a ‘Selection menu’ in video games, or an inventory for boardgame collateral.

Appeals to my desire of following a logical system of arrangement, assembling puzzle pieces, a dissected diagram- why I’m really interested in medical/ autopsy diagrams and museums displays of dissections

Symmetry- artificial perfection, logic, design and packaging principles. Overall just appealing to our desire for ‘satisfying’ content on social media, like ASMR and restocking/ arranging videos, gaining a sense of control through the deliberate arrangement of things in an almost obsessive or compulsive way. I want to ‘ground’ my work (which follows a lot of ‘floaty’ concepts of fantasy and imagination etc) to reality by sticking to a methodology of logical, systematic and intentional arrangements. This is something I’ve always been interested in and this workshop helped me to realise how I can incorporate this

For some reason the feedback from this workshop enlightened me on how sci-fi esque my work is? I’ve been aware of it but I’ve never fully realised it until now for some reason. It’s probably because I have a love-hate relationship with sci-fi and I’ve never been too fond of the aesthetic, but I can’t deny that it’s a massive influence for me. I like when I get these contradictions though, and I want to move forward embracing (but also critiquing) this sci-fi aesthetic.

Also really really happy that Dan and Natalie brought up how it reminded them of Renaissance and classical art and architecture, a period of art that I will forever admire and adore!! When I am working on building my worlds I am constantly thinking of my experiences in Greece and Rome, the art galleries and architecture I saw remains so influential to me, so I am very happy that it shows through! Eg, my ‘Overworld’ board: The Pantheon in Rome- embodiment of Renaissance principles of ‘ideal architecture’. The Oculus, sundial, symbolising the union of the earth and the sky, humans and gods, architecture and the cosmos. Neoclassical architecture
