Transduction and a domestic cat's perception of a meow's meaning
Is it like binary to them?
Seemingly, a cat's meow triggers in the cat a response in a way that parallels the way the pores on CDs are read and converted into imagery and sound through transduction.
Cats are born knowing to meow to gain their own feline mother's attention, and seem to learn their meow-language automatically as they grow and age, suggesting that feline language is genetically encoded into a cat's brain from birth.
I've learned to mimic the meow of the rescue strays I took care of in my teenage years. I wish to test the above theory, but lack the infrastructure to conduct such research. I am disappointed...
Do you know if the ASPCA is reliable, credible, or ethical? I see commercials about them all the time but I’ve never stopped to think about it.
I haven’t done much research into ASPCA as a non-profit; however, I do know that they do some good work! Unlike HSUS, they do indeed operate an actual shelter in NYC, as well as an incredibly helpful 24/7 Pet Poison Control hotline. So, they are actually helping animals, which is more than a lot of these big charities can say.
The Elwood Dagmar Memorial Marathon returns in 2022! This time, we will be raising money for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and the Humane Society of the United States!
For those who don’t know, Elwood Dagmar was Kit’s boy; she got him while she was living in Milwaukee when he was just a little guy. He was a grumpy old man who would cuddle on his terms and loved to wander down the hall of our building and sit under the stairs until we made him head back to the apartment. On weekend mornings, he would come into my room and sit with me in bed until I got up. We sadly had to let him go in April 2020 when he developed major kidney problems. We miss him every day and now hold this marathon in his honor.
For this year’s marathon, Kit will be playing the Spyro Reignited Trilogy. We don’t have a set goal in mind for fundraising, but if we get to $1000, I will read something I’ve written on air. I currently have no idea what.
More updates as they come, including the link to the Tiltify page once it goes live!
I have been told by my motherly figure that I must tell the interweb of her new cruise ship idea
We need ASPCA Cruise Lines. They just go from port to port in the US, never go out into international waters so they don’t get in trouble, and have roaming pets
The whole idea started when we went on our cruise this past week. While at dinner we were lookin at our scrapes (like some fat off of a steak) and missing our cats n dogs because they always enjoy that part.
So, what if cat cruises. Dogs would be a little harder cause you can’t really train them to go to the bathroom in only one spot. With cats you have litter boxes and it’s not tHaT hard to get them to follow the rules. Just gotta get a herd of cats that can wander the decks freely. You could also build lil tunnels in the walls and from deck to deck so they don’t have to use the elevators n stairs if they don’t want to. (But you KNOW that there will be a cat taking up 1/4 of the elevator just for bath time).
I called it an ASPCA Cruise because it’d be a good opportunity for adoptable cats. If a cruiser just so happens to bond with a cat and wants to take it home they can go ahead and fill out the paperwork there. How that cat gets back to their home is up to them, whether they’re going to try to brave the car ride or attempt to fly it back.
I mean just imagine wandering around a hotel and there’s just some cattos wandering around, or when you get back to your room there’s a catto on your bed and you are their human now.
