saw someone on here the other day say that we don’t need aromantic and asexual representation in media because that’s a “sanitized” identity like BITCH WHAT????? IF YOU CAN ONLY SEE ASPEC PEOPLE AS CHILDREN THAT IS A YOU PROBLEM.

If you're alloace you need to understand that you enjoy more rep than aros. If you're aroace you need to understand that you enjoy more rep than non-ace aros including alloaros! If you're alloaro, you need to understand that rep for non sam aros, neu aros, etc. Is practically nonexistent. And so on.
If you're aro and/or ace and allotertiary you need to fucking understand that atertiaryspec ppl like aplatonics are also not represented at all despite being part of the aspec!! Yes we all need rep. Yes aspec rep as a whole is needed more regardless of the identity! But please don't erase the fact that some of us literally have way less rep than some other aspec identities and respect that we are allowed to be upset about how we are ignored in favor of another aspec identity all the fucking time.

Aromantic Awareness
February is Aro Awareness month! In both characters and cast we have aro-spec people from all different backgrounds! As usual I like to highlight our character's who fit under such labels:
Yen (she/her) Aromantic Asexual
Zenith (he/him) Aro-spec unlabelled
Dylan (he/they) Aromantic

Well, The Charm Offensive successfully convinced me that it would not, in fact, be a fun idea to go on a dating show ironically as a generally romance-averse aromantic

you know... I was still being able to hold myself together. kind of. but not after this scene. oh no. that guy made this speech and the leaves started appearing as Isaac smiled and oh my god. and then crush culture started playing on the soundtrack. and then I started singing along. and when I realized I was crying. and laughing. and I had to go back a few minutes and rewatch this beautiful scene. the second time around I didn't even try. I actually just cried, laughed hysterically, put my hands on my face and cried some more as I screamed along to Crush Culture. I realized I was literally shaking. the feeling of being seen this much on a screen... it's something I had actually never experienced before. this means much more than just a scene on a TV show. this feels like the beginning of something. this feels like actual representation. the things I just felt right now are simply indiscribable.

Okay, fine, so I'm never getting polls, but there's still a deadline. Which short-short story (under 500 words) should I submit to a local LGBTQ+ group's zine?
Three - a more serious story, pansexual polyamorous fmc ruminating on how her partners (who run the gamot of queer identities) are her real familiy. Brief mention of panphobia, polyphobia, slutshaming, and unsupportive family.
A Tale of Two Sapphics - more lighthearted, a humorous scene between three friends where the lesbain and the sapphic-aesthetic oriented aroace are attracted to the same girl

Aspec rep - Lesson 2 - Jaiden animations “Being not straight”
Hi and welcome back! After covering youtube animation with the last class, I thought it would be a good idea to follow suit with Jaiden animations' video.
youtube
Before we start tho, i want to make clear that we are going to respect Jaiden’s petition of not trying to guess more about her than the stuff she said, so this is not going to be about that.
Instead, I want to take this as an example of why aspec representation is important.
Jaiden’s video is really good, it covers in detail the basic information about the aro and ace identities, and it provides examples out of her own life to help people understand better. She acknowledges the fact that aspec people are different and that the identity is an spectrum, and how different experiences can coexist and still be valid.
She explains the complicated and subconscious process of questioning and struggling to understand what is going on inside aspec people, and how that can take so long and make people do stuff they don’t want to do but feel they should.
She explains the pressure of being a romantic/sexual being in a romance/sexual obsessed society, and how that doesn’t really help with the discovery or acceptance of one's aspecness.
And she talks about the loneliness that aspec people may experience. How it can originate from feeling left out of the LGBTQIA+ community since the experiences are different, or how it can present in more personal ways.
And all of that is neatly laid out on a 15mn video.
Now, one of the most important parts about her video is the impact it had on people, and how useful it has been.
It has helped people realize new things about themselves and start researching about it.
It has helped allos learn and understand about the community, and thanks to the personal examples, be able to relate to it.
It has helped so many members of the community to explain their feelings, because it’s easier to share this compact video than give an hour-long lecture trying to explain an identity that nobody has heard of.
And if one youtube video has done so much, more aspec representation could do so much more.
Homework
Send Jaiden love

I just finished binging Wednesday and it’s a very solid 9/10 for me.A friend recommended me to watch the trailer today, and * before that * on the very same day, it came up on my Tumblr feed in the #aro tags. The trailer itself was pretty good, and it being only 8 episodes made it the perfect weekend binge.
Spoiler warning
Right from the very start, the vibes were all over the place, and I was rushing to pick them like jacks before the credits rolled. The first episode also featured the banger cello cover of Paint It Black, which is how I found out why it was trending.
My favourite character has to be Wednesday herself, the aro rep. In second place would be the roomie, Enid Sinclair. I really liked their contrast and relationship. The key character development of Enid becoming unapologetic in how she wanted to live her life resonated with me. Just reading that one can be unapologetic about who they were was something that helped me realise I was aro. I also liked the reverse analogy between coming out and wolfing out.
I am hoping for a second season, definitely. I am also curious how the world of Wednesday deals with Hydes, being outcasts in the very sense of the word.

The Kind of Aspec Rep We Want to See
Hi everyone! I'm sure you've all probably forgotten I existed, which is very understandable because I haven't posted in literally multiple years, and I don't even have a particularly good excuse.
Regardless, I always intended this blog to be more community-focused, rather than me lecturing people on aspec issues in fiction.
So, I invite all aspec people, writers or not, to share what they, personally, want to see in terms of aspec rep in fiction! (And yes, this applies to an an-attractiona
I'll go first:
More characters actually canonically declaring themselves to be some kind of aspec identity! Whether it's directly ("I'm asexual, actually") or indirectly, due to time period/other world ("I just don't think it's possible for me to fall in love and I'm happy without it, to be honest").
Feel free to reblog and/or put in the tags and/or the replies!

as an arospec asexual gal I can very much appreciate famous aroace icons that aren’t human like Spongebob, Sonic the Hedgehog and Barbie while ALSO wanting more aroace characters that are HUMAN and not seen as less than because of it, which is ANOTHER REASON I’m excited for Isaac’s arc in season 2

Wish more people understood the difference between "shipping this aro character because i want to explore their aromanticism and where they stand in the spectrum" and "shipping this aro character because i don't care about their orientation".

"we need more aroace characters" actually we need more aro characters. like just aro because every time a character is aroace the aro part of their identity is conveniently forgotten

I think queer stories would be better if people stopped assuming that queer representation hinges on if two characters are romantically involved at all. Like the moment you accept characters as being queer without needing romance to prove said queerness then i think we'd find ourselves with a lot more unique, nuanced, and interesting queer stories. but by limiting queerness to only romance you are stifling queer stories.

just saw someone say Rick Riordan making a TV show is just as bad as anything JKR has done. BFFR you're comparing Rick Riordan trying to make his world more inclusive, changing some parts because of money/time constraints, or just making changes cus he thinks they're needed, to JKR being a terrible person!
