Summary:

He arrives on a boat during a particularly stormy day. Harry knew Astoria Greengrass had sent for a husband, someone to keep her company on the particularly dreary and dark winter days on this remote island. Harry didn’t know who it was she had arranged to be sent here. All he knew was that the weather was horrid today, and the Portkeys had never properly worked in this remote corner of the North Sea. The island was special, its magic working in odd and surprising ways.

The last person Harry expects to find on the beach is Draco Malfoy.

Excerpt:

He wants to wrap Draco in his arms.

He doesn’t think he has any right to do it after leaving him like that.

He feels a wave of guilt washing over him, thinking about the fact that he touched Draco when he’s not supposed to. Draco is meant to have a new chance at a life with Astoria, for Merlin’s sake. 

His white-blond hair is loose and soft, and Draco has that rumpled look he used to have when they woke up next to each other in the morning. Harry reaches for his hair and smooths it out, tucking a loose strand behind Draco’s ear and then remembering the elastic band Draco had left with him and giving it back, albeit with reluctance. 

“I’m sorry,” Harry confesses, looking at Draco’s lips, then up into his eyes again. “I haven’t…I haven’t been with anyone since you—there hasn’t been anyone else for me, and I—I’ve missed you like mad…I know you need to go. I don’t want Scorpius to get upset…” 

Draco observes him for a long moment before he cups Harry’s cheeks and leans in, closing his eyes. The first press of lips startles Harry, because he’s not expecting it. He finally remembers to breathe and then closes his eyes and just melts into it. Draco kisses him with abandon, something soft and languid, unlike their first kiss, that was all fire and passion. Harry reaches for him blindly, and Draco lets him thread his fingers through his hair once again and kiss him some more, slow and sensual, until Harry is shuddering with it, and Draco’s eyes have that special spark in them when they eventually part, panting and with wet lips. Harry reaches for his mouth again, sliding his tongue inside his mouth this time, and Draco lets out a soft noise, a little whimper, something precious and rare, and all the blood rises to Harry’s face, because Draco just made a noise, because of him. 

“Fuck…” Harry blurts out when they eventually part, his breath short and heart beating frantically in his chest as he rests his forehead against Draco’s and just breathes in with his eyes closed for a few seconds that stretch into minutes. “I know you need to go.”

When they part, Draco exhales shakily, then extracts a piece of paper from the pad hanging from his neck and scribbles something on it. He folds it in half and places it in Harry’s hand before he Disapparates with a loud crack.

Harry groans, banging his head against the door and feeling his lips tingle.

He can’t believe they kissed. He can still feel the ghost of Draco’s lips on his own, the warmth of his breath. 

He carefully unfolds the piece of paper and smiles.

I’m still mad at you for leaving. 

But thank you.

Our first work of the week is here, brought to us by MidnightStargazer! Let's take a trip down to the dungeons during Deathly Hallows :O

The Nymph of House Black - Tonks travels back in time to the Marauder era. I loved writing this story so incredibly much. Snippet below:

Dora stood gingerly and saw herself in the mirror – it was the vision she’d seen for years. Mousy brown hair, pale complexion, heart-shaped face, and dark grey eyes. She was ready.

“What’s going on, Dora?” Tonks said. “You don’t look very good.”

“Nothing, Tonks,” Dora croaked. “Do you remember what I said about love?”

Tonks nodded slowly, still looking concerned.

“No matter what happens, please remember who you love. No matter how scared you are, love for me, okay? Just love everyone for me.”

Cariad - a postwar, Remus and Tonks survive story. It's entering a new stage with a calmer life for the Lupin family, but writing Remadora going through the real pains of marriage was so rewarding.

“This isn’t working, Remus,” Tonks said, wiping her nose with the cloth napkin in her hand. A strange buzzing, quite unlike the catchy music, filled his ears.

“What isn’t—”

“We aren’t working. I know you want the kids at the house but I just can’t live there anymore,” she said, her chin quivering against the multicolored party lights. “I don’t know what I’m going to do, but I can’t…this isn’t working.”

Remus felt as if his heart had been ripped out of his chest. Hope slipped in his arms, but he caught her, holding her tight to his chest, scrambling to hold onto something that would make sense of what Tonks was telling him.

Call Me Edward - Teddy goes back in time from 2009 to 1997. I put that little bean through so much.

“All I wanted to do was meet them,” Teddy said bitterly. “But they’re nothing like what I was told.”

“Well, people don’t always want to tell you the worst about your parents,” Harry said. “Especially if they’re not alive anymore.”

Teddy rubbed his toe against the worn Persian rug in the library, at a loss for words.

“I don’t know what it feels like to get your parents back, but I think you should talk to them. They definitely don’t hate you. People who hate you don’t send Patronuses to ask after you. They don’t worry about where you are or what you’re doing. They don’t talk about you at work, either.” Harry offered Teddy a small smile.

The Death of Teddy Lupin - an exploration into the afterlife through the eyes of Teddy.

“Where’s home?” Teddy asked, almost afraid of the answer.

“Where love ends,” Gran replied simply, putting her hand on his heart. “As long as there’s love to give, we’re not home yet.”

Teddy gaped at them, confused. “Won’t that take forever?”

Nymphadora and Remus smiled brighter than anyone else.

“The more time you spend here,” said Nymphadora, taking Teddy’s hand, “the more you’ll understand. Forever is all the time we need.”

On Her Terms - an Astoria piece focusing on her relationship with her mortality. This one's rather personal to me.

“I wanted you to be happy,” Astoria says calmly, rocking Scorpius to sleep. “Do keep your voice down. My son needs to sleep.”

“Does he know? Draco?”

“I told him this morning.”

Daphne gave Astoria a reproachful stare. “And?”

“He didn’t take it well.”

Daphne bursts into tears. “You’re my only sister. How could you do this to me?”

“I gave you the life you always wanted,” Astoria replies softly. “I’ve got the life I wanted too. It’s all right, Daph.”

Harry works in the DMLE department and as part of the job rotation he lands in its investigative division dealing with cold cases of disappearances. A case he is trying to solve is the disappearance of Draco Malfoy from three years ago. In order to solve it he will need to painstakingly reconstruct the last days of Draco by talking to his family and friends, examining memories and looking thorough personal items. The Draco that emerges from this research is a very different from the one Harry remembers from his school days.

The pacing is unhurried, some events and facts need to be reexamined multiple times with the addition of new, small clues. Meaningless sentences suddenly gain significance in the new light. As Harry step by step unravels the mystery he confronts some difficult truths about himself and discovers similarities to Malfoy he never expected to see.

The story lets us question the nature of being and non-being and the state in between. The plot takes on journeys within UK without clear destination - rocky cliffs, blooming canola fields and hotels in the middle of nowhere. In these liminal spaces the borders between now and then, fiction and vision become blurry and lead to new revelations. The dilatory pace of storytelling add to the impression of waiting for something and being in transition.

Harry is flawed in this story, he is not a mastermind policeman nor does he have his life completely figured out. The search for Draco starts a wider search for meaning and as in travel in car through the UK, arriving at one destination does not end the journey.

A masterful story delivered with flawless technique.

When Harry finally slips, it’s in bed. “Charlie,” he says, from nowhere, while Draco’s distracted, disoriented, chin still tingling pleasantly from the scrape of Harry’s Sunday evening stubble, propped up on his elbow and sorting roughly through the bedside drawer.

He pauses, bemused. “No,” he tells Harry, voice careful, the way he’d talk to Vince on a particularly slow day. “Not Charlie. Draco.”

Harry sighs, immediately impatient. He looses his hold on Draco’s thigh, cold air taking his place as he rolls onto his back. “For fuck’s sake, Draco. You, and Charlie bloody Weasley!”

“Sorry,” Draco says, elusive lube finally in hand as he turns to join him, “what?”

“The two of you,” Harry says, face blotchy with frustration. “Outside Gringotts, just – just the other day. You were in your work robes too, and you were holding hands, Draco, I–”

“Which one is Charlie again?” Draco interjects, trying to picture the scene.

“What?!”

“Look, Harry, you know I’m no good with faces. Must we really have the whole Weasley discussion again? Now?” asks Draco, gesturing down at his poor, neglected cock.

“Oh, for – he’s the dragon-tamer, alright?” Harry splutters, outraged. “The short one! The fit – all the – you fucking know!” he says, holding up his arm in the universal gesture for muscles, his face so perfectly cross that Draco has to press his lips together tight to push down the hysteria bubbling up inside.

“Sounds sexy,” he says instead, reaching over to run his nails through the curls of Harry’s chest hair, thumbing hopefully at a nipple. It’s no use, though. Harry’s cock, which had, just moments ago, been making an excellent showing, is now curled plump and despondent against his thigh.

“At least, in that universe,” muses Draco, wriggling down the bed undeterred, “I get one of these to play with.”

“But – Charlie Weasle–” Harry tries again, until Draco takes him into his mouth and sucks him back to hardness, decidedly not thinking about muscular ginger dragonologists.

As the last of the survivors left the castle, and as the castle itself turned its wounded back on them all. The loss of Hogwarts has been felt by their entire community. hello, im actually really nervous because i am just starting to get involved with the drarry fandom. im trying to write a fic but it's my very first one. it has an accidental blood bind AND harry as a healer. in other fics it's usually draco as the healer so i thought it would be fun to switch it up. i just wanted to tell someone because i'm so excited!!! they make me so happy.

🌞 Look For Me In the Sun by @wolfpants (Draco/Harry, M, 9k)

Obviously a wolfpants fic had to be on this list but which one? *points at the whole catalogue* There is no way to go wrong there, what a year they had! I think I have screamed most about Pages of you (the number of times AO3 tells me I visited that one is embarrassing), Romp and Circumstance, and The Hollow (yes these are links, what of it, no it’s not cheating), so I’m going mention another favourite: Look For Me In The Sun, gorgeously atmospheric, achy, stunningly written.

🦦 Kept in Cages by @sweet-s0rr0w and @ihopeyoubothstaysafefromharm (Draco/Harry, E, 77k)

This has got to be THE fic this year for me. It’s fitting, because last year it was Nor All That Glisters, which got me into the drarry fandom properly, so of course it’s Sweet who just casually swoops in with another banger that won’t leave my brain, accompanied by the most incredible Joy art. I think this fic had me already at the tags but I was not ready for everything there is to love about the story - it’s impossible to do it justice in just a few short sentences, but if you haven't read it yet, it should be on your list for sure.

💍 Paper Rings by @lettersbyelise (Draco/Harry, E, 50k)

OTP: inevitable. Two timelines, both so exquisitely delivered: eighth-year drarry and grown-up drarry, both times so different and wholesome. This story is everything I love: nuanced, funny, full of pining and history.

🌙 Take the Moon by @tackytigerfic (Draco/Harry, M, 15k)

This fic grabbed me and squeezed, and I don’t think I’ve been able to catch my breath since. I’m actually lost for words here because the story makes me feel so much but I haven’t been able to name it yet and maybe that’s okay. It’s the Tacky way of reaching deep down into my feelings and letting me sit with them.

🍋 Preserving Lemons by @saintgarbanzo and @ihopeyoubothstaysafefromharm (Draco/Harry, E, 17k)

I think this might be the only time I managed to guess the author when this was still anon (and, well. The genius artist too). Such intimacy and longing, gorgeous food and so many layers to the story.

🌼 He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not by @sleepstxtic (Draco/Harry, Draco/Astoria, T, 5k)

I know that the infidelity tag might put some people off, but this is a stunningly written (devastating) Astoria PoV that absolutely clawed at my heart in the best possible way.

🍎 The Wrong Sort by @vukovich (Draco/Harry, not rated)

This fic makes me want to scream even though Vuk came back with a second part that patched up my broken heart. “I didn’t know how else to keep it” will forever be etched into my eyelids. Thank you, Vuk.

🥂 Nights With You by @the-sinking-ship (Draco/Harry, E, WIP)

Technically, this counts because Sly started posting in Dec and I’m obsessed! Flirting! Banter! Oblivious Draco! *screams*
