Ok but Astrid breaking down and telling Rachel about her husband having an affair,,,,,,of course she would help Rachel with the fish, that’s who she is. But Astrid, beautiful, perfect Astrid, who walls herself off from everyone, who keeps her emotions hidden under the glamorous front she’s crafted for years, finally letting those walls come down? Finally exposing herself, her real self to someone, finally letting herself be vulnerable? When she very easily could have brushed it aside with a smile and soft assurances like she’s done her entire life? Like…Rachel was THE first person she told. And on-screen, she was the ONLY person that Astrid VOLUNTARILY told about Michael’s affair. I’m sure everyone else found out about it but Rachel was T H E first one. Astrid isn’t even this vulnerable WITH HER OWN FAMILY, or with Nick, who’s kind of basically her best friend? Or at least the relative she’s closest with? SHE AND NICK HAVE KNOWN EACH OTHER THEIR ENTIRE LIVES AND I DONT THINK HE EVER FINDS OUT IN THE ENTIRE MOVIE??????? “Honey, attending such an event is not part of your itinerary…”

Your mom’s worried tone from your phone echoed in your hotel bathroom as you got ready for Sweet September’s concert tonight. After tying your hair in a half ponytail with your white silk ribbon, you tried to curl the ends of your hair with your fingers.

“I know, I know, mom. But the band personally invited me,” you replied before looking at the camera to see your mom sipping from her morning tea. “They are great performers. I and Astrid enjoyed their concert when they went there in Zafiro.”

Even though you are already a grown adult, with you owning a title and a long list of responsibilities, you still have to talk with your parents before doing something. And that’s what you are doing right now. You would usually go straight to your dad. He is strict but your mom’s stricter. You tried talking to him initially but he’s busy with meetings. So you reached out to The Queen to let her know about the concert.

She squinted her eyes, “A personal invite from the band? How so?”

You paused, “Oh… Uhm… I had a chat with their vocalist last night at the Gala. We already met before that.”

“And can I know the name of this vocalist we’re talking about?”

The image of Jungkook kissing your hand last night suddenly played in your head, unknowingly putting a slight smile on your face.

“Jungkook.”

Then, a noise from your mother’s background snapped you back into reality. A thin line formed on your lips as you waited for a reaction from your mother. But she just looked at you for a minute. Like she was examining you, you can feel her gaze on you even though she’s on the other side of the world.

“YN…” she called for you in a specific tone that made your shoulders tense up.

“Mom.” you sighed. “I’m not dating him. I’m sure I’m not the only one who gets personal invites from him.”

“That’s great to know, honey. I know you’re smart enough with your decisions, including who to date. You know how we would always want the best partner for you as you will be leading Zafiro in the future.”

Your jaw tightened as you tried to focus on running the mascara through your lashes. Your shoulders suddenly bore this hefty weight. The same weight you feel every time you put a crown on your head. You tried to ignore it, clearing your throat before you spoke,

“Anyway, Mom, I’ll keep my attendance lowkey. Okay?” You plumped your lips before smiling at her. “I promise, no one would even notice I was there.”

“Is everyone having a great time?”

Jungkook asked with his wired microphone and the whole audience roared with screams and cheers. The bright lights pointed at him made it hard for him to see you in the crowd. He offered you a VIP Standing ticket earlier but you declined, opting for a seat more secluded. 

“Now, is there anyone here up for a surprise?” he wiggled his eyebrows.

Every member smiled with the excitement from the crowd. They don’t really do surprise songs at every stop of their tour. So it thrills them too when Jungkook brings up a surprise song idea last night for them to play tonight. They only rehearsed the said song this morning.

“Seems like everyone is up for it.” Jungkook turned his head to his bandmates, silently signaling them to get ready.  He looked back to the audience. His eyes stopped at a specific spot, “By the way, I would like to greet the beautiful lady in–”

Cutting him off, Woosung began playing the drums for the song’s intro and so did Carter and Mingyu with their guitars. They all smiled when they heard a small “aww” of disappointment from their fans. Jungkook combed through his damp hair with his fingers before singing the first line.

“You're just too good to be true. Can't take my eyes off of you.”

Crazy Rich Asians (2018)

While it would be nice for every story to be wholly new and completely unpredictable, there’s something satisfying about a film that uses genre tropes this well. Crazy Rich Asians is the best romantic comedy we’ve seen in a long time. It’s glamorous, romantic, gorgeous, hilarious, smart and expertly directed.

Economics professor Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) is travelling to Singapore with her boyfriend, Nick Young (Henry Golding) for his best friend Colin’s wedding. There, she learns that Nick's family is among the richest in the country. Dismissed by many because they don’t believe she will fit in, Rachel becomes determined to prove them wrong.

I watched Crazy Rich Asians on a double-bill with Monster-in-Law because of the two pictures’ similarities. Basically, they share a plot but the execution makes them so different it’s like they have nothing in common. You can probably guess the story’s beats but there’s a twist to them that makes Crazy Rich Asians so much more. When you see Nick and Rachel together, they’re perfect. She’s got a good head on her shoulders. He’s wealthy but isn't insensitive to the problems of the common person and doesn't flaunt his riches. The performers have excellent chemistry. They’re both beautiful people. The camera doesn’t shy away from showing you Henry Golding without a shirt on and Constance Wu appears in several glamorous outfits that make her look like a princess. You like them as individuals. You like them even better as a couple. There’s no reason for Nick's mother, Eleanor (Michelle Yeoh) to disapprove of them but she does. In her eyes, Rachel's upbringing means she will never fit in.

It’s not that Rachel grew up “poor” and that Nick didn’t. This film is deeper than that. Eleanor doesn’t approve because of the way Rachel was raised. Her parents were Chinese but she grew up in America. In Eleanor's eyes, Rachel could never understand the values the Young family hold so dearly. The opening scene shows Eleanor being discrimated against for being a foreigner. It generates sympathy for her. Seeing her judge Rachel later shows how much of a hypocrite she is.

You could dig deep into the film’s themes of old money vs. new money, of tradition and need to move away from them as well, the significance of the relationship between Astrid (Gemma Chan) and her husband, Michael (Pierre Png), or what it means to see a major theatrical release with an all-Asian cast, but ultimately, all of these are gravy. What you came for are some laughs and scenes of tenderness that will make your date want to hold your hand. That's what you get. The wedding Nick and Rachel attend is so beautiful and so glamorous. It radiates love so brightly it’ll bring tears to your eyes. It’s as romantic as attending a real-life wedding between two people you know are perfect for each other. You love seeing Nick and Rachel together. Seeing them having a great time with every luxury money can buy at their fingertips is rewarding.

There's so much going on with the cinematography, sets and costume designs you could watch the movie on mute and have a great time but then you’d be missing out on the comedy. Awkwafina (an actress who continues to impress with each film) delivers one big laugh after another. So does Ken Jeong - the funniest he’s been in years. Many of the side characters are quirky and memorable for their comedic values. The “serious” characterization is left to the main cast, with Eleanor coming off as particularly multi-faceted. She can afford to be. As in any fantasy, the leads have to be “perfect” to reinforce that anyone who doesn’t cheer for them is a villain.

Crazy Rich Asians is so enormously pleasing only those with a bone to pick against romantic comedies could dislike it. That said, I would agree with criticisms directed towards the conclusion. It’s a bit too long and does indulge a bit in some rom-com clichés. I'm mentioning this to show I'm not biased. The visuals, humor, drama and romance make Crazy Rich Asians a film you’ll be glad to return to over and over. It’s a terrific pick for date night. (August 7, 2020)

Kacy Drabble - Movie Night

It's team movie night and they're all at Jane's. The sofa is the prime spot for watching the movie. Jane gets a spot automatically because it's her house. Kate had snagged a seat at the other end because she'd been talking to Jane. Ernie goes for the chair and that just leaves the floor for Jesse and Kai. Neither one of them is fighting Lucy for that middle seat.

The movie of the night is Crazy Rich Asians. Kate had the books on a shelf in the apartment, but Lucy hadn't gotten around to them. At moment, she's halfway through one of Kate's other books. She can't remember if she's seen this one or not.

They're ten minutes in, as Rachel Chu and Nick Young are being led back to their private suite on the plane, Jesse calls out for it to be paused. Then he and Kai turn to look at her.

"What?" It takes a second for her to get it. "Okay, no. My family is not that comfortable. That's on a whole other level!"

"You're saying that you and Kate wouldn't be occupying a private suite on a flight to Dallas?" asks Kai. "... that's not how I meant it to sound..." he mumbles a second later. Kate turns bright red and stares down into the bowl of popcorn on her lap.

"First class is fine. It's the only way Kate will have enough leg room. Now watch the movie."

She likes the movie and is glad Kate meeting her own family won't be anywhere near as hard as Rachel meeting Nick's. Mainly, because she plans on skipping that. Kate's met her NCIS family. The family that counts. The one that matters to her. And she's been embraced by them that means more than any of them could know. She reaches over and steals a handful of popcorn from the bowl and snuggles in.

She catches Kai and Jesse wanting to turn and look at her at various points during the film. Probably wanting to ask if there's someone in her family tree like Bernard or Astrid. How big does her family go on parties and that kind of thing. Every time she sees them start to turn, she gives their heads a shove with her socked feet. She wasn't going to waste the popcorn by throwing it at their heads.

There's a small part of her that worries that if she were to take Kate to meet her family, it would end a lot like the movie does. With her chasing Kate through an airport and a plane. Feeling Kate's arm go around her shoulders, Lucy remembers she already left that life behind her. She doesn't plan on going back. Her place is here, next to her girlfriend and surround by her family. Nuzzling into Kate's side as the credits start to role, Lucy cuts them off.

"No! I am not answering any questions from you guys!" She smiles and buries her face into Kate's shoulder as the guys bombard her with them anyway. She loves it.

Hurts So Good

Summary: Why does being a rebound feel so good, is it because the pain is coming from you, the one I love?

Tamura walks into his house to find his parents Keiichi and Koshiro looking over blueprints from work as they are home realtors and renovators .  ‘Hello dads, have you had any buyers for the new homes you opened house for?  Yes, the Ayato family just recently moved into one of the houses we open house with on Monday, just a few blocks down. That’s awesome dads, I am really happy for you two, you’ve been wanting  to do this since you were teens.” They smile at their son with gratitude before he  heads up the stairs going to his bedroom. 

Tamura Pov

When I heard the last names of the new resident I instantly put on a blank expression hiding how shocked I was to hear my boyfriend was the one moving around the block. Well he wasn’t my boyfriend. I am just someone Yuri calls when he and his boyfriend Toru are having one of their many fights or breakups. This is going to be hell  knowing now I'll definitely be seeing him around more often and not just at school in our club. Knowing my parents they’re going to invite them over for dinner so we can formally welcome them to the neighborhood. 

Time skip

Later that evening Tamura was called to the kitchen so he could start setting the table for dinner. That's when he noticed  there were six  plates waiting for him to place onto the table. ‘Keiichi, are we inviting the Ayato’s over tonight? He asks his dad. Yes, we are. We don’t want them to feel unwelcomed; it's always hard adjusting to new surroundings. Tamura just nods his head going back to the task at hand as he finished setting the table he heard the doorbell ring. Tachii told him to  answer the door while he brought the food to the table. Tamura was dreading this but the sooner he answered the door the sooner it’ll all be over.

Yuri Pov

Tamura opened the door inviting us in. He was definitely avoiding eye contact with me  which didn’t necessarily bother me. I could tell he liked me yet I still used him at my convenience. He should in all honesty despise me. The reason I do keep toying with him is because I know he is someone I won’t lose, he’d never walk away. Which only entangles me more. My folks and I enter the kitchen seeing Tamura’s ecstatic parents who happily greets us. Hewooo, Mr.Itome Tank chu for inviTIng us over for dinner, I say bowing my head.(if any of you have ever read the manga or watched the show you would understand why I wrote it that way.) They nodded their heads to me in return. They made pot roast that had potatoes, carrots, and mushrooms. It looked absolutely delicious. My parents did most of the talking with Tamura’s parents since most people don’t understand my speech. Tamura glanced at me occasionally then he finally spoke when Tachii gave him a stern look. Were you able to find anybody to join the club? Most of the school is out looking for clubs to join to help with their grades, most being seniors who decided to flunk the year. Yes, I was able to find 6 members so far. I have a flyer up in every class and hall for those to see if interested. I replied. He just nodded his head in response but I could see he was a bit excited to have new members joining the club. 

Time skip

Tamura got up gathering the dishes as everyone finished eating dinner, he tossed the scraps into the trash before transporting the dishes to the dishwasher. He then goes to the fridge grabbing the Strawberry Shortcake Neko made for the Ayato’s. They all walk to the front door wishing each other a goodnight and giving thanks again before calling it a night. Tamura went up to his room doing his calculus homework when he unknowingly drifted off into a deep sleep. Tamura heard muffled voices coming from down the hall. He recognised one of those voices immediately, it belonged to Yuri. When Tamura makes his way to the room he finds Toru and Yuri in heated dialogue . He remained outside the door so as to notify them of his presence. 

Yuri- I think we should take a break from each other. All we’ve done is fight lately. You don’t love me anymore, especially not as much as you love your game of manipulating those around you. You think I don’t know about the other guy, it’s not that I don’t know I just turn blind eye hoping you would change your ways. 

Toru- YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT. I have done nothing but love and appreciate you yet here you are letting your own delusions and insecurities cloud your judgment. I knew it was a bad idea dating someone who used to be everyone's favorite toy, you did do one thing right though that head was phenomenal. So those many guys that took “advantage of you” knew you could amount to being someone’s gloryhole and nothing more. 

Toru leaves the classroom with ferocity rarely seen on animals as he slams the door . In his haze he didn’t even notice Tamura who had quickly leaned against lockers narrowly missing the door. Tamura then ventures on into the room where he sees a crying Yuri.  Tamura walks up to him giving him a comforting hug.

Tamura- Hey, Yuri are you okay?  You don’t really need a guy like him anyway he’s a douchebag  who only likes to see those around him bend to his will, obliging to his every beck and call. 

Yuri- I know that but you can’t help who you love sometimes. I’ve always fallen for the bad guys. Maybe it’s time I learned that bad isn’t always better, it’s just a persona one uses misfits someone who is different from the rest and usually gets them attention they feed off that to feel needed. Some of them are the good guys but I always get the bad one’s letting the good one’s go.   

Tamura-You’re someone who lights up the room whenever you smile, someone who draws the attention of everyone around, someone who always puts others first even at the risk of their own happiness. That self sacrifice though sometimes gets you into trouble because some people see that as an opportunity of convenience knowing you will never think anything of it. Yuri, I love you for who you are and were before that because flaws are just beautiful scars to remind us that we are just human, none too perfect. 

Hearing this Yuri leaned down bringing his hand to Tamura’s face stroking it gently before lifting his face towards his own placing a soft tender kiss against Tamura’s lips. I lo-

Tamura woke up with a jump, tears streaming down his face as he reached over on his desk where he had fallen asleep to answer his phone. Hello, Yuri, yes of course I’ll be right over he says as he sighs wishing his fantasy would become reality even though he knows it’s fruitless he’ll always be the second best.

Summary: What if Rachel ran into Astrid while trying to leave the wedding?

Inspired by my Rachel x Astrid brain rot and my question of how tf did she get to Peik Lin’s house. She didn’t drive herself to the wedding, Peik Lin obviously wasn’t there, and she didn’t see Oliver at all. I guess she could have Uber’d or something but it’s much more fun to imagine she ran into Astrid and she gave her a ride there

[Rachel’s POV. This is during the wedding, just after Eleanor showed Rachel the PI’s photographs.]

Her heartbeat roars in her ears. Everyone is screaming. Laughing. Laughing at her. They’re always laughing at her. She can feel it pressing in on her, crushing her under the weight of their expectations, forcing the air from her lungs. She wades through the crowd, desperately searching for an empty corner or an exit or something because if she doesn’t get out of here right now she will suffocate to death.

She pushes past a clump of people and comes face-to-face with Eddie. He says something. She can’t understand a single word. But she understands when he laughs in her face, and when the others around them join in. She stumbles in a different direction because she can feel her mask starting to crumble and the tears starting to fall, and she refuses to let them know they finally won.

The giant fans at the edge of the dance floor catch Rachel’s eye. There. She shoves some guy out of her way, beelining for the empty space, when Bernard comes crashing through with his pants at his ankles and his hands all over Alistair’s actress girlfriend. The piranhas descend, laughing and pointing while the photographers snap as many pictures as they can before Bernard hobbles off. Rachel backs away, trying to leave the way she came, but she’s caught in their net. A minnow in a sea full of sharks.

The tears are welling up faster than she can choke them down, and Rachel knows she can’t keep this up much longer. A narrow path opens, and she barely hesitates before she elbows her way through. A glass shatters behind her. She can’t afford to stop and look. Further and further she swims, but the sharks seem to multiply instead of thinning. She nearly runs into Auntie Alix and Auntie Felicity. They laugh at her the same way Eddie did, and she wants to be hurt, but she can’t even bring herself to feel surprised.

Shoving past them, Rachel all but sprints for the empty space she can see up ahead. A sob falls from her lips before she can stop it. She bumps into someone else—this time a woman in a bright pink dress—but doesn’t bother to apologize. Wait—pink dress?

“Rachel?”

She freezes. Astrid’s voice is as soft as ever, but it cuts through the chaos like an answered prayer. Rachel turns towards her, and the rest of the world falls silent. Astrid’s dark brown eyes are filled with concern, her face creased into the same worried expression she’d worn at Araminta’s bachelorette party. That time, Rachel had been able to keep herself together. She picked herself up and put on a brave face so none of Araminta’s idiotic friends would know how rattled she was. But now, staring at probably the only person at this entire wedding she can actually stand to be around, she can’t hold back the flood any longer.

Rachel bursts into tears and buries her face in her hands. “Oh, God,” Astrid says, wrapping her arms around her shoulders. “Okay. Come on, Rachel. Let’s get you somewhere quiet.”

Astrid leads her away from the party until the screams and cheers fade to a dull roar. 

[Astrid sits Rachel down somewhere quieter. Rachel cries for a bit before she realizes what a mess she’s making.]

“Shit, I’m so sorry,” she says. She leans back from Astrid, hurriedly wiping her face. Her fingers come away stained with mascara, mimicking the blackened tear streaks on Astrid’s pink dress. 

Astrid’s frown deepens. “What?”

Rachel gestures vaguely at the ruined fabric. “Your dress.” The words come out shakier than she would like. She clears her throat, trying to steel herself. “God, I’m sorry, I—”

“Don’t worry about that,” Astrid interrupts. Her satin voice is still gentle, but firm enough to know that this was not an argument Rachel would be able to win. She reaches for Rachel’s hand, twining their fingers together. “Please. It’s all right, I promise.”
