About that ask about will joking about demon pox: while I agree STIs are heavily stigmatized, demon pox is kinda... different? I mean, HIV, herpes etc need awareness because of how they spread, but if you're getting an STI because you fucked a demon (not in fanfic, but 'irl', as Benedict's were in the Shadowhinter universe) you absolutely deserve to be mocked.
Firstly, I think we can all agree that having sex with demons is not okay. Like, don't do that, nephilim!
But the previous discussion was a little deeper.
For example, Barbara Lightwood (Benedict's wife) got demon pox from Benedict. She didn't 'fuck a demon'. But she still got affected - and took her own life because of 'stigma and shame'. Personally, therefore, I don't think it's something we should joke about or even write songs about.
More importantly, CC literally based demon pox on Syphilis.
"Demon pox is based on syphilis. Syphilis is something that can be cured now with penicillin, but it was deadly in Will and Tessa’s time. Syphilis would kill you, and like demon pox, had few symptoms for many years. It had the same heraldic rash as demon pox (the “astriola” in TID) and like demon pox it would wind up making you insane. Also like demon pox, because it was sexually transmitted it was rarely talked about."

Clockwork Prince - Cassandra Clare
( The infernal devices - book 2/3 )
15th February 2023
" When I think of you, and you are not there, I see you in my mind's eye always with a book in your hand."
Something in him was broken, and through that break spilled a blind cruelty, a need to hurt and to push away.
" ... if I were a man - would you have treated me as you just did?"
" Will, Jessamine, do try not to kill each other while I am gone."
" Reparations," said Jem very suddenly, setting down the pen he was holding. Will looked at him in puzzlement. "Is this a game? We just blurt out whatever word comes next to mind? In that case mine's 'genuphobia'. It means an unreasonable fear of knees." "What's the word for a perfectly reasonable fear of annoying idiots?" inquired Jessamine.
" Anyway, the last time I was here, everyone was living in mud huts and eating bugs. So I doubt he was around" -he pointed a many-jointed finger at Will -"unless Earthkind lives much longer than I was led to believe."
Will looked down at his bitten nails. "I will probably be reborn as a slug that someone salts."
" What is one person's pleasure is another's poison ..."
" You won't like it." Tessa was unmoved. "I won't know if I like it until I try it, will I?" "I've never swum naked in the Thames, but I know I wouldn't like it." "But think how entertaining for sightseers," said Tessa, and she saw Jem duck his head to hide the quick flash of his grin.
" ... It is me. I am poison. Poison to them. Poison to anyone who loves me."
" No one can live with nothing," he whispered. "Jem is all I have."
" I must play the part of another person all day, each day-bitter and vicious and cruel-"
" khalepa ta kale" ... " ... 'beauty is harsh.'"
" You cannot buy or drug or dream your way out of pain."
" Eggs," said Henry dreamily, looking at his plate. "I do love eggs. I could eat them all day." ... "You might be surprised to know," said Will, "that I saw something rather interesting in the opium den." "I'm sure you did," said Charlotte with asperity. "Was it an egg?" Henry inquired.
" ... the sins of the fathers should not be visited on the sons." "Or the daughters," said Will.
But all these were things he could not want, because they were things he could not have, and wanting what you could not have led to misery and madness.
" and as for him being a witness, well, everyone thinks Will is a lunatic as it is-". "Ah," said a voice from the doorway, "having your annual everyone-thinks-Will-is-a-lunatic meeting, are you?" "It's biannual," said Jem. "And no, this is not that meeting."
" ... I have important business to get to. I plan to sulk all afternoon, followed, perhaps, by an evening of Byronic brooding and a nighttime of dissipation."
" I've never minded it," he went on. "Being lost, that is. I had always thought one could not be truly lost if one knew one's own heart. But I fear I may be lost without knowing yours."
Better not to think about it; better not to hope and be disappointed.
" It is always better to live the truth than to live a lie."
" I cannot explain love," he said. "I could not tell you if I loved you the first moment I saw you, or if it was the second or third or fourth. But I remember the first moment I looked at you walking towards me and realized that somehow the rest of the world seemed to vanish when I was with you. That you were the centre of everything I did and felt and thought."
" You are home for me now."
" Astriola," he said. "That is demon pox. You had evidence that demon pox existed and you didn't mention it to me! Et tu, Brute!" He rolled up the paper and hit Jem over the head with it. "Ouch!" Jem rubbed his head ruefully.
" ... We live and breathe words. It was books that kept me from taking my own life after I thought I could never love anyone, never be loved by anyone again. It was books that made me feel that perhaps I was not completely alone. They could be honest with me, and I with them."

Demon Pox
CA page 128:
“Indeed. Perhaps if we’re fortunate, we can still catch syphilis.”
“Or demon pox,” Will suggested cheerfully. “There’s always demon pox.”
“Demon pox does not exist.”
“Oh, ye of little faith.”
CA page 174:
“Most diseases that affect demons are not transmissible to human beings, but in some cases usually through a bite or a scratch, the disease can be passed on. Vampirism. Lycanthropy-“
“Demon pox,” said Will.
“Will, there’s no such thing as demon pox, and you know it,” Charlotte said.
CA page 209:
“I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the elder Lightwood’s nocturnal visits to certain houses in Shadwell haven’t left him with a nasty case of demon pox.”
“Demon pox?” Tessa was horrified and fascinated at the same time.
“He made that up,” Jem hastily reassured her. “Really, Will. How many times do we have to tell you there’s no such thing as demon pox?”
“I think there is,” he said.
CP page 438:
“Demon Pox,” said Sophie. “Mr. Lightwood’s got it, has had it for years, and it’ll kill him in a right couple of months of he doesn’t get the cure. And Mortmain said he can get it for him.”
...Will appeared to be singing a song about how he had been right about demon pox all along.
“Demon pox, oh, demon pox,
Just how is it acquired?
One must go down to the bad part of town
Until one is very tired
Demon pox,  oh demon pox
I had it all along
No, not the pox, you foolish blocks,
I mean this very song-
For I was right, and you were wrong!”
CP2 page 20:
“Gabriel Lightwood is downstairs, and I have two words for you. Two of your favorite words, at least when you put them together.”
“Utter simpleton?” inquired Will. “Worthless upstart?”
Jem grinned. “Demon pox,” he said.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
– Great Expectations: a novel by Charles Dickens, and follows the story an orphan nicknamed Pip. the story focuses on the psychological and moral growth of the protagonist from youth to adulthood (coming of age), in which character change is important.
– demon pox, a story, by will herondale: a book written by james' father (lol) about demon pox, also known as astriola, wich is a rare but debilitating disease that affects Shadowhunters and is caused by sexual contact with demons.
– A journal of the plague year: this novel is an account of one man's experiences of the year 1665, in which the Great Plague or the bubonic plague struck the city of London.
– History of Oneiromancy: oneiromancy is based on the belief that dreams are messages sent to the soul by gods or the dead, most often as warnings.
– Trans-dimentional magic: probably talks about the different demonic dimensions (such as edom I guess) and maybe spells performed by warlocks (since James can travel through this dimensions, he's probably curious)
– demons demons demons: probably about demons (lol), inter-dimensional beings that travel between worlds, and their home dimension, the Void. probably includes the greater, lesser and minor demons.

Jem: "[Barbara Lightwood had] a shield-shaped rash, indicative of the heraldic marks of astriola, upon the left shoulder."
Will: "Astriola. That IS demon pox. You had evidence that demon pox existed and you didn't mention it to me! Et tu, Brute!"

6. A: zápis - Bruncvík - II. + III. + IV.
