i love the stars! - oda was a somewhat famous astronomer that taught dazai about it. he carries the memories of that with him a lot - armed detective agency? more like stargazing agency haha (they're a team of astronomers) - 15skk met eachother on the same rooftop (they both wanted to look at the stars) and they got intoa scuffle because no that's chuuya's personal stargazing spot no it's dazai's no it's - shibusawa is only called a collector because he sews constellations and planets onto some of his clothes - the hunting dogs are just a famous team of astronomers that have discovered some constellations and planets

on one hand, i totally get why people hate “[modern] AUs” and i do find most interpretations tend to be obnoxious and reductive almost by design. but i do think they can have value, within the “character first” framework of fandom, at least. like, it’s fun to ascribe symbolic meaning to fictional characters through locating their core, fundamental traits and transposing them into a contemporary scheme by designating them a field of study or career or hobbies or whatever. it simultaneously requires an understanding of the character(s), understanding of both settings (canon and AU), and an understanding that either way the point is so have fun and get a little silly with it.

Sometimes I think about an 80s diner au… and they’re all like. Freshly out of highschool or college. Mumbo hasn’t even upgraded to a suit yet, but he’s in a white longsleeve button-up and slacks that are entirely too formal for the job.. and he flips burgers as Grian gives Scar a milkshake “on the house” with a wink… bdubs is also there, decidedly milkshakeless and Live Slug Reactioning from his spot right next to scar… and tango is there in the corner with Jimmy and Tango’s wearing a letterman and Jimmy just spilled some ketchup on his shirt and they’re both sharing some fries and a milkshake… and they’re making fun of Mumbo as he flips burgers for his endless pining and also for being absolutely oblivious to his endless pining… Xisuma is at the counter trying to stop Cleo from murdering martyn because he ordered a cheeseburger with no meat, only cheese and a vanilla milkshake with no vanilla just to piss her off… meanwhile scar is trying to weasel more free food out of Grian and Grian pulls scar’s hat over his face as he tells him to get lost, and impulse comes in and assumes that grian’s just handing out free food now and asks for a burger on the house and bdubs, who ordered ten minutes ago and still hasn’t gotten his food, shoves him off his barstool, but immediately fusses over him like a mother hen when impulse complains that he hurt his arm, and. Yeah I think about it a lot.
