It's taken a little bit, but we're finally going to be releasing Aswang At Berdugo on June 12, 2021, or Philippine Independence Day!

The story tackles themes of police brutality and EJKs (extra-judicial killings) set in Metro Manila.

Young superhero Bernardo Carpio, "hero of the people", investigates supposed “aswang attacks” in a Metro Manila slum, encountering the masked “Aswang Killer”.

What he learns, and the decision he must make, might go against his values- but may just be what the people need.

This issue is the first of three in which the superhero trio, the Young Bayani, deal with issues plaguing the people they strive to protect, but must deal with crises they never thought they'd have to take on their shoulders when they first began as superheroes.

Help me fund a Filipino-made comic in English, “Aswang at Berdugo”!

Hello everyone! I’m very excited to announce a 3-part komiks project involving characters from the Project Bayani Komiks. 

Each story will have some darker themes, some horror or horror-adjacent (just in time for Halloween), and each issue will star one of the three Young Bayani or superheroes! 

Bernardo Carpio, or Boy - Issue 1 - ASWANG AT BERDUGO (monsters and executioners)

Adarna, or Dara - Issue 2 - BANTAY TUBIG (guardians of the water)

and Patrick, formerly known as Lastikid - Issue 3 - KURAKOT (corrupt)

This will take place with each former teenage hero now in their twenties. 

The first story in the lineup will star Bernardo Carpio, and will be entitled “Aswang At Berdugo” (roughly translated - Monsters and Executioners)

The story sees “hero of the people” Bernardo Carpio called by police to investigate supposed “aswang attacks” in a slum in Metro Manila, and encountering the so-called masked “Aswang Killer”. 

It will tackle themes of police brutality and EJK or extra-judicial killings in the Philippines.

I’m hoping to raise funds for this project so that I may be able to supplement the amount I will be paying this comic’s amazing artist, Gener Pedriña.

Aswang At Berdugo update - 21% of goal

So happy for the amazing support by people over on Ko-Fi! Thank you so much for helping us get closer to our goal for Aswang At Berdugo (Monsters and Executioners), the first of three issues featuring the characters of Project Bayani Komiks, the Young Bayani.

The komiks will feature each character in their early twenties, each dealing with current issues in the Philippines’ sociopolitical landscape. 

Aswang At Berdugo specifically deals with police brutality in the Philippines, with elements of the supernatural (superpowers, monsters, etc). 

It features Boy Makadiwa, aka the "hero of the people” Bernardo Carpio (with powers such as super strength, flight, and early stages of geokinesis), as he’s asked to investigate the many gruesome deaths plaguing Barangay Katarungan in Metro Manila. 

All proceeds will go to the amazing artist, Gener Pedriña, who has created amazing komiks such as Sanduguan.
