i’ve noticed that a lot of people view opposite classpects as being inverses, as in, they cancel eachother out. sort of like 1 and -1. but i’ve noticed they’re more complementary, like colors, or yin and yang.

for example, take a Seer of Light and a Witch of Void. a Seer of Light Knows Light for others, and a Witch of Void Changes Void for themself. these aren’t mutually exclusive at all, in fact, one follows the other! Knowing Information Changes what is Secret. Changing what is Secret requires Knowing Information.

i think this is relevant due to homestuck’s nature as a creation story. opposites needing eachother to exist is a common theme in multiple religions, so going “oh, someone with the opposite motives, themes, experiences, personality, etc of rose would be a Witch of Void bc Witch of Void is the -(Seer of Light)” is not only wrong, but ignores a core thematic element.

in addition, i think this could provide some interesting insight into how classpects work. though Passive players can be very directly involved, and Active players can be very discreet, there does seem to be a pattern of Passive players being more discreet, and Active players being more direct. why? wordplay! just like how Pages get Served in more ways than one, perhaps a Seer of Light not only Knows/Learns *for* Others, they also Know/Learn for *Others*. Changing what is Secret, even for yourself, will change what Information Others Know.

Oh, yeah no, Classpects ARE Complimentary instead of opposites, I thought that was the general conception of them around, honestly. The imagery of complimentary counterparts IS kind of prevalent through the entirety of Homestuck, I feel!

Though to say entire Classpects are complimentary in that way, I feel, is also somewhat reductive! It's better than outright dismissing them as in complete opposites, and it is true, individually, they represent a 'counterpart' to certain themes and ideas... But Classpects can be So Many Different Ways and be parsed, power-wise, in so many different ways too, that you'd be hard pressed to ACTUALLY feel two Counterpart Classpects that actually mirror each other that clearly.

I know some people may feel a little sad about Normal’s epilogue moment but yknow I thought it was nice. He and the others went through such an intense series of events. He clearly was struggling with self image issues and likely more. And he still is.

Growing up didn’t fix that. And that’s okay. That’s something a lot of people grapple with long into their adulthood. Something about it was kind of refreshing to see that shown. Things aren’t perfect. They likely never will be. But for that night, he allows himself let loose with his friends again.

I like the concept of life series curses being something self inflicted rather than some divine curse of the universe. As in its something that can be worked through if they just learned how, if they just spotted the pattern and moved to correct it. Not that it’s as mundane as Going to Therapy, but it’s magic that reflects a truth about themselves

The Canary Curse is a reflection of Jimmy’s foolhardy determination. The Widow’s curse reflects how Grian holds tactic above connection. 777, the angel number for luck, reflects how Skizz’s friendship is a boon for others at the expense of himself.

If Jimmy just considered how he is doomed, he might take more cautious steps. If Grian just opened up more he could act to protect people instead of damning them. If Skizz recognized that his nature is what ends him, he could protect himself at the cost of others, lasting beyond session 7.

But Jimmy won’t, Grian won’t, and neither will Skizz. And so they are cursed

Sometimes, I'm sad about the hobbies I have abandoned or have been too intimidated to pick up. But... what good is it, to just beat myself up over that? My bass is sitting in the corner, patiently waiting, and so is everything else. My life isn't over, and I've got nothing to answer to. I'm wading through a sea of time, and I'll pick up the seashells that interest me, and it's okay to put one back in the sand. The current's waves will bring it back to me if that is to be destiny. I can not hate myself into productivity, so I must swim on.

I think the same can apply to anybody. It's okay if you have dropped something, such as a hobby or passion. Human beings are like that sometimes, it isn't reasonable for you to beat yourself into submission. You, too, can not hate yourself into being a well-rounded person. You must cultivate it like you would a garden - with patience, time, and care.
