I have a coworker, let’s call her Monique. Monique and I almost immediately built a friendship because we were the only two women in our group of hiring. This started about a year and a half ago. I believe maybe 6 months in she moved to another location but remained employed. So we began to only communicate about work things and some personal. Within 3 months of her move we almost entirely stopped talking. She would call once a few months to ask a question regarding work and throw in some personal chat. This summer I rarely heard from her at all.
Now come fall she’s started calling me a bit more. And revealed the deep hole of shit she has gotten herself into. We have all kinds. Threats to her employment by her baby daddy’s side chick because she was doing things she wasn’t supposed to using work resources. Why the bd had to know these things I don’t know, but he then told the side chick which is wild but not surprising. So when Monique and her bd decided they wanted to try and work things out, the side chick got pissed and wanted to stop it from happening so she threatened to get Monique fired for the things she did. On top of that get her fired for having a second job that she sometimes goes to during her main jobs hours. Again why the bd and side chick know this, I have no clue. Clearly Monique hasn’t realized she shouldn’t trust or talk to her bd like that. I mean personally, I’m a cynic so anything I say or do to or in front of people is generally calculated. But if I already found out a first time that my bd was telling someone all my business, he would get no more information from me after that. (I do not have a baby daddy, just so we’re clear on that).
For her to just come clean to the man. I don’t get. I’ve seen the man, he is not adonis. And he has proven to her time and time again that he will never be serious about her and also does not respect her. Now, just yesterday she revealed to me that the situation I thought could not possibly get worse. Has gotten worse. Well it was bad to begin with she just decided to tell me more yesterday.
She slept with a coworker. A handful of times. Even revealed to him the mess in her personal life. This coworker then got also upset when she decided to try to work things out with the bd. So he stopped communicating with her regarding personal matters. He basically cut her off. And has been doing great at treating her as usual like a coworker. Monique now takes issue with this. Guess her and the bd’s trying was short lived. 😂 so she wants to either rekindle what she had with the coworker or at least get the chance to apologize for the mess but he is not allowing her either. Kudos to him. Messy situations are not worth it. Also especially with a coworker. Just don’t fuck your coworkers people.
Especially in a position that is very well your career. Food service is a sea of sleeping with your coworkers. But office jobs really shouldn’t be. Food service is more of a revolving door of people. But anyway, I advised her to let the coworker simmer for a bit and attempt whatever her goal is with him again at a later date. Cause currently she is basically harassing him. And I can see this quickly turning into an HR nightmare. In fact, let me go read our handbook and see if there’s a policy on fraternization.

‘Is this the right place?’ You thought to yourself while glancing down at the sheet of paper in your hand.
650 Gongman St. You look up at the address on the side of the building. 650 Gongman St. Well, this was where you needed to be. And this is where your new life starts from here on out. You were to be Bang Chan’s new stylist, for some reason he’d specifically asked for YOU instead of any of the other candidates who asked to be his stylist. “Why me?” You’d asked your best friend who shrugged her shoulders in response.
“Maybe he finds your shyness attractive? Who cares. Go get you some Bang! Everyone knows he’s the best idol out there to his stylists. He pampers the shit out of them. You’d get such nice things!” She replied with a grin, wiggling her eyebrows suggestively, “maybe you could give him something in return.” She snickered. “Like your vir-” “AND WE’RE DONE WITH THAT!”
If only you knew just how true her words would be after your first day working for him.
Tumblr media
“Chan, this is Y/N. You met briefly during the interview, but now she’ll be your new stylist. Have fun you two, I gotta get the set ready.” Your boss commented lightly before disappearing through the dressing room door.
Chan stared at you with a slightly tilted head, then gave you a bright smile. “Well hello there! As she said, I’m Chan. It’s nice to officially meet you Y/N.” He said, giving you the smallest of bows before offering to shake your hand.
You gave him the same courtesy and only managed a small grimace of a smile in response. “N-Nice to meet you too.” You mumbled softly, your right hand gripping your left arm in your worry of making a decent first impression; or second impression in this case.
While you glanced down to the ground in your tiny embarrassment, you missed the look Chan gave as he watched you. His eyes darkened while his gaze seemed to take on a predatorial look, his canine sinking into his bottom lip at the innocent and naïve impression you were giving him. Oh how much he enjoyed seeing you looking so….so…..pure in that moment. How he wanted so badly to change that. “S-So then. I know this is your first day, but what were you planning on doing first? Makeup, or wardrobe?” He asked you, hoping you didn’t hear the stutter in the beginning of his sentence.
With that question though, your demeanor changed immediately to a stylist, and you got straight to work. “Sit down in the chair for me please. We’ll do your makeup first and then move on to the clothes.” You told him seriously, moving into your work mode to the point Chan wasn’t sure if he was looking at the same person who was shyly greeting him not even a minute ago.
He did as told, mainly because he was in shock at how your personality did a complete 180. He shouldn’t have been surprised. His personality did that a lot too; especially when he was onstage or, ahem, in his bedroom. But the sight was definitely a minor turn on for him as you stood in front of him, right in front of his knees where he could easily pull you in and trap you if he really wanted to. But he wouldn’t….no….he’d wait just a little and reel you in slowly. He was going to have a lot of fun corrupting you.
He gave you the smallest of smirks as you focused so hard on getting his makeup and hair just right, not even paying attention to him staring at you. You’d then spent the next hour preparing him for his first part of the set going on outside his dressing room, trying your hardest to focus on getting as much of the concept correct as you could. “Hmmm, that should do it.” You finally muttered, stepping away from your masterpiece of a man, trying your hardest not to blush at the smile he gave you as he stood up off the chair to look in the mirror properly.
He nodded his head in satisfaction before turning to you and opening his arms up, making you assume he wanted to give you a hug. You stared at him in confusion for a moment before he chuckled. “Isn’t it time to pick out my attire for the shoot? I don’t think I can walk out in this clothing and call it alright.” He mentioned, causing your cheeks to flush crimson.
“R-Right! Oh, I’m so sorry.” You squeaked, rushing to grab the clothes for him to change into.
Honestly, he didn’t even mind all that much that you made such a minor mistake. It was your first day, you were trying to do everything perfect, and his presence could be a little intimidating-he’d been told that a lot. Maybe it was the alpha in him roaring to come out around others, or maybe it was just you found him that attractive. Either way, the sulky expression on your face definitely made his pants get a tiny bit tighter. “Actually, before I get changed, do you mind if I slip out to the bathroom real quick?” He asked, pointing to the door sheepishly.
You stared at him in surprise, cloth grasped in your hands. “U-Uhhh no? You can go, do you need to ask me?” You wondered, tilting your head in confusion as his frame all but ran out of the room and down the hallway.
You went back to looking at the cloth in your hands as your brain went over the concept again and again. “This concept is going to kill me.” You whispered softly, a crimson flush to your cheeks once more at the thought of your bias and the man you’re currently working with being dressed up in the pieces you picked out.
While you were whispering to yourself these things, Chan had managed to put air back in his lungs, and calm his raging hormones enough to soften the semi hard on in his pants. He was still close enough he could hear you talking to yourself, and hear the blood pumping through your veins at an elevated rate. Oh? Just what exactly were you thinking about to get you so worked up? You’ve been a little excitable since he first met you in the morning...or at least until you got in your work headspace. “What are you thinking about Angel?” He asked himself, his alpha purring in his chest as he thought about you.
He realized the moment he met you in the interview...that you were his mate. It was just instinctual that he would hire you to be closer to you. And the fact you seemed so innocent and pure just stirred his inner wolf something fierce to the point he wanted you constantly. Ergo, the issue he was currently dealing with of calming his hormones on his way back to you. He could hear your mumblings still as he made his way into the dressing room, quietly watching you in surprise and fascination at the fact you were bouncing around the room looking at all the clothes and makeup you didn’t get a chance to see at first. “Oh my gosh this stuff is so good! But so expensive, what?! Oh my gosh-OH!” You were twirling around so much, you stopped in the middle of the room in shock when Chan’s figure leaning in the doorway caught your attention.
You immediately bowed in embarrassment. “I’m so sorry! How long were you standing there?! L-Let’s get you into these clothes!” You gushed quickly, rushing over to the garments you carefully laid on his chair for him to change into.
He could only smirk and give you a small nod of the head while you both prepared him for his shoot.
Tumblr media
And that was how it would normally go for the first few months you worked for him. The way he so patiently waited for you to do your work, and even waited after the shooting was done to walk you to your car. He treated you so carefully and gently, you were positive his actions were slowly making you fall for him. And that terrified you greatly.
“Y/N! You okay Doll?” His familiar voice caught your attention and earned a surprised squeak from you.
You quickly nodded your head and then shook it a little to break out of your thoughts. “Y-Yeah, I’m fine! Sorry, just got lost in thought I guess.” You replied, scrunching your nose a little in confusion.
He could hear your heartbeat quicken, and glanced over at you with a small frown, wondering what could be going through your pretty little head to get you so worked up. “You sure? You seem a little flushed.” He commented, standing up off the seat to step closer to you.
He didn’t like knowing something was bothering you enough to send your heat in a panic, and god did he wish he could read your mind to see what it was. Anything at all he wished for so he could help you calm down and relax. Without much thought, he gently leaned down and kissed the crown of your head, his large and warm hands cupping your cheeks affectionately. He could feel your face heating up and pulled away from you, looking at you in concern. “Do I need to take you home? I can cancel the shoot today.” He offered quickly, pushing small strands of hair away from your reddening face as you ducked your head in embarrassment.
He rolled his eyes. “Y/N, you know what I am now...you know I can hear your heartbeat and feel the heat of your face. What’s wrong?” He muttered softly, fighting his wolf’s urge to make you answer him.
You bit your lip and hid your face in your hands. “I-I’m just trying to….I don’t know...I-do you mind if I go home? I’m not feeling too well.” You whimpered out finally, one hand resting against your temple to ease the headache forming in your brain.
Before you could even look up at him, Chan had disappeared to go speak with the director and managers, telling them he wasn’t feeling all that good today and to just postpone the shoot until next Monday. Something everyone was not happy about, but still understood nonetheless. It was rare for him to call off such a large shoot, and the fact he played the part of “not feeling well” so well, they thought he might need to go to the hospital. He just shook off their concerns and told them he just needed a bit of rest.
The moment he reappeared behind the door-about to walk in, you were slowly packing your tools up and putting everything away while mumbling to yourself how ridiculous this whole thing was. “So what if the guy who hired you is a werewolf. You can have feelings for a werewolf….right?” You asked out loud, halting your movements once the thought was out in the air.
Chan felt his heart stop at the words you uttered, and a large grin broke out onto his face before he quickly opened the door. “Alright Doll, time to go.” He told you with that huge smile.
You jumped at his sudden appearance and squeaked loudly, dropping the brushes in your hands. “Ch-Chan! Wh-you can’t just yell like that. We don’t all have your hearing.” You chuckled awkwardly while bending down to pick up the brushes scattered along the floor.
He grabbed the couple that managed to make it to his feet and gave you a sheepish grin in response. “Sorry I just got excited. Sometimes the wolf likes to take over.” He replied quickly, handing you the brushes in one hand while the other scratched his neck awkwardly.
You slowly took the objects from him, and gave him a tiny smile in response, tilting your head. “So the wolf likes to act like a puppy?” You asked back, hiding a snicker at his surprised look.
The whining from his wolf made it hard for him to disagree with you in that moment, knowing you were the only one able to bring this side out of both him and his inner alpha. So he could only sigh and shrug his shoulders weakly at your giggle, finding more joy in your laughter than trying to prove you wrong. “Okay okay, stop laughing at my pain. You can do that over lunch.” He suggested, holding his hand out for you once he saw you finished packing up your makeup.
It was your turn to smile at him as you immediately took his hand and let him pull you out of the whole building….and to his red motorcycle parked on the top of the parking garage. “Oh my god. This is YOURS?!” You squealed, rushing over to it in excitement.
He grinned and nodded his head, straddling the vehicle quickly before handing you a helmet. “Ready for the ride of your life?” He asked you, to which you nodded and jumped on behind him, reminding him to stop by your car to drop your makeup off first. It was way too expensive for you to just LEAVE OUT in the open.
Tumblr media
Cue a few months later with you now DATING the alpha wolf sat in your chair. Yes the company knew, along with most of the people who worked with you. They all tried doing something about it, by either sabotaging your station, starting rumors, or even taking it straight to the boss; who laughed in their face. Because Chan was their pride and joy of the company. He was the best, and always brought in excellent revenue for everyone. Why would they want to take away something from him if you were the thing making him happy at work now? A mad Chan equaled terrible things happening, and a weird growly sound always behind the humans who seemed to piss him off. It just made more sense to keep you around for him. Plus, according to him, you were pretty to look at which made him happier than ever.
He wasn’t really surprised when you’d finally put in your two week notice and explained to him that you were ready to move on, and find another job with the new experience you’d gained from working with him. And the newfound confidence his alpha instilled in you just by being in his embrace made him purr in satisfaction. He’d explained everything to you, from the imprinting to the fact that you were his mate. The only concern was that you weren’t sure you were ready to give him the one thing still keeping you part of the human world. Because once you mated to him, you’d be unable to be away from him again, and that terrified you more than liking him in the first place. You’d tried bringing it up with him, but he’d always change the subject to keep you from going into a panic about the whole situation. How could he ask you to uproot yourself entirely just for him? He thought you would want to stay in your own little world for as long as possible, maybe a few years at least.
So he was quite surprised when you caught him after he came home late one night in the hallway and practically attacked him with a kiss, your arms and legs attaching to his frame as your tongue tried poking through his lips to play with his own. “Well hello to you too Angel.” He grunted, smiling into the kiss when you nibbled on his lips.
You huffed and hid your face in his neck, nipping his skin while trying your hardest to pull yourself against him. You didn't want any space in between you two anymore. “Channie. I missed you.” You whined out with a pout, licking your lips when he stared at you in complete adoration.
He gently set you on the ground and wrapped his arms around your waist, kissing the crown of your head. “I missed you too Doll.” He chuckled.
You shook your head and leaned up to kiss his jaw, about ready to suck a welt into the skin before thinking better of that and nipping his skin instead. As much as you wanted to leave a mark on him, you had a feeling his new makeup artist wouldn’t appreciate the dark spots all along his face and neck. “I-I…” You started, biting your lip as you thought about how to get the sentence out properly.
He stopped immediately and stared at you in concern. “What’s wrong? Are you hurt? Did someone hurt you? Did you try breaking up one of the boys’ fights again?” He jumbled out, pulling away from you to look at you from an arm’s length and spin you around for any injuries.
He sniffed the air around you for any unfamiliar scents and heard his inner alpha howl the moment he scented the issue in your pants. He smirked and trapped you against the wall, leaning down a little to look into your eyes. “Ahhhh. I see what’s going on now.” He practically purred out finally.
You whimpered and reached for him, biting your lip awkwardly. “I-I just…..It started this morning and all I could think of was...y-you...and….p-please…” You shuddered as his hand trailed along your body while you tried explaining yourself.
He hummed in response to let you know he was listening, and slowly rested his body against yours, allowing his right leg to slip between yours and gently press against your core. You hissed and opened your mouth to say something when his mouth caught yours and swallowed your sounds. His tongue immediately found yours and gently started wrestling in playfulness, wanting to see just how needy you were. Your soft mewls gave him his answer quickly after and he rested his large hands on your hips, guiding you to start grinding down on his leg. You wasted no time following the rhythm of his hands, nipping at his lip and gently tugging on his shirt to pull him even closer to you. “That’s right Angel, keep going. You’ll feel so good.” He praised, letting his left hand run through your hair as his lips trailed down your jaw and neck as light as a feather.
You shivered at the feel and felt your hips stutter in their rhythm of grinding. You tilted your head back and bit down on your lip, gripping the cloth of his shirt in your hands. “Ch-Channie I-mmmm!” You tensed at the feeling of his thigh muscles tightening against your core, and felt him smirking against your skin.
He chuckled faintly and nipped at your neck, just barely letting a canine brush your skin. “You feel so good Doll. So good for me.” He mumbled lowly, almost purring in satisfaction at the whimper bubbling on your tongue.
Your hips started moving quicker on their own accord until you were a mewling, whining mess about ready to come undone on his thigh alone. “I-I’m gonna….Channie….” You repeated over and over, breathing a little heavier the more you tried talking.
The hand in your hair slowly moved along your head and down to your neck, right where he’d just nipped the skin. “So close Doll, so close.” He whispered in your ear, softly nibbling the lobe as you feverishly continued grinding against him.
You leaned into his neck and bit him a little bit, earning a grunt of surprise. “O-Ohhhh….Alpha please.” You mewled while burying your head in his chest.
Without a second thought, Chan pressed you back against the wall with his hand gently grasping at your neck, his eyes flashing a shade of gold you’d never seen before. “What did you just say?” He growled out, giving you a narrowed eyed look.
Being too far gone in pleasure to understand what you’d said, you could only whimper and weakly move your hips against him. “A-Alpha...p-please.”
He pulled you into his chest and wrapped your legs around his waist, quickly walking you both into the bedroom where he laid you down and crawled on top of you. Before you could say anything to him, he captured you in the most heated and lustful kiss the both of you had shared yet. You were so lost in the desire and feeling of it all, you thought for sure you would pass out. He growled lowly and slowly pressed himself against you, his hips slowly started to rut against you as you ran your fingers through his hair. “That’s it Doll. S-So good.” He groaned, attacking your neck in open mouthed kisses and soft nibbles.
You gasped softly and felt yourself press up against him, a knot starting to form in your stomach from the buildup of pleasure coursing through you. “I-I’m close Chan. I-....please.” You whispered breathlessly, letting your head fall back against the bedsheets.
He continued to grind against you, a little bit harder this time while sniffing at your neck, his hand quickly moving towards his face to gently wrap around where he was sniffing. “Can I make you my little bitch, Doll? I’ll make you feel so good forever.” He groaned against your skin, opening his mouth to let out the most beautiful moan you’d ever heard.
In that moment you knew you wanted to hear it again, and again. Of course when you were about to answer him, the slight squeezing around your neck brought you back to the present and caused you to moan loudly to the best of your abilities. “Alpha I-I…!” Before you even knew what had happened, your back had arched off the bed as the most delicious feeling ripped through your body tremors shaking you as you mewled and whimpered uncontrollably.
Chan’s hand disappeared from around your throat then and instead his lips were kissing along the sides of your neck, praises being whispered into the air as he slowly and gently continued grinding against your core. Once you calmed down from your high and were able to stare at him through your tired eyes, you smiled a little and tried your best to sit up. “Channie.” You whispered out, getting pulled into a sitting position and pressed against his chest immediately.
He stroked a hand through your hair and along your side soothingly, humming quietly so you know he heard you. You sighed and kissed his neck, leaning heavily against him. “W-Will you...um...will you bite me?” You hesitantly asked, biting your lip afterward in wait for his response.
He pulled away from you in surprise and cradled your head in his hand. “You know what that means Angel. Are you sure?” He asked you, staring at you in wait as you tiredly tried coming to a decision.
You just nodded your head and kissed his wrist. “I’m positive now. Please.” You sighed out, trailing your kisses up his arm and across his chest.
He grunted in surprise at your boldness and hummed a little. “Alright then.” He whispered, pulling your head up gently to kiss him.
You sighed and tilted your head a little to kiss him easier, your hands moving up his chest and into his hair. “Channie please.” You whispered across his lips.
He kissed you one more time before going for your neck, quickly latching onto the skin and leaving a large purple mark along the junction of your neck and shoulder. You could only whimper at the feeling as he took his time marking your neck with small and large hickies in random areas. “That’s right Doll, let me hear you. Tell me how good I made you feel.” He mumbled over a large mark, licking it gently and making you squirm in his grasp.
You whined and moved to straddle his lap, quickly starting to grind yourself against him for friction. “Oh Channie. My Alpha.” You purred.
He growled at the tone in your voice and accidentally bucked his hips into yours roughly, earning a yelp in surprise from you. He didn’t think much of it as his mouth latched onto a particular spot on your neck that had you seeing stars, your small cry giving him just the spur he needed to hold you against him. His hips began rutting against yours quicker and harder than before and you were only able to weakly latch onto his shoulders. “That’s it Doll, call me like that again.” He grunted, his arms encasing you while his hand gently moved to the nape of your neck to guide it to the side.
He kept his hips grinding against yours to bring you that much closer to your high, waiting for you to tilt over the edge again before he could give you what you wanted most today. And if what he was smelling was anything to go by, with your wonderfully sweet arousal in his nose, you were close again. He could feel your hips stuttering against his as you opened your mouth to say something, only letting out a small cry in bliss. “M-my Alpha!”
The feeling of your orgasm hit stronger than before the moment you felt his teeth at your neck. With your core throbbing and contracting around air and your breathing coming shallowly, you could see spots behind your eyelids as he bit into you, the endorphins from his saliva mixing into your bloodstream to give you such a high, you were positive you wouldn’t want anything else with anyone else as long as you had him with you. You mewled your happiness and smiled blissfully as he allowed himself a moment to bask in the feel of your skin in his mouth. But after a few seconds he gripped you tighter and clenched his eyes shut, knowing it wasn’t going to last much longer before you were begging him to release you.
It was a good thing he did too, because a couple seconds later you were whimpering for a different reason; the burning sensation in your neck proving to you just what it meant to give yourself over to him. “Ch-Chan...Channie please….it….it hurts.” You cried, clawing at his shirt for relief.
He pressed your head into his chest and bit his lip at hearing your cries. “I know Angel. I know. It’ll be over soon. I love you. I love you so much.” He whispered, stroking your hair softly as you continued to thrash around in his grip.
As a last ditch effort, you went as far as to bite him in the chest, just above his heart. Something his inner wolf was entirely enjoying if the howling was anything to go by. He groaned softly and held you closer to him-if that were possible-until you were calmed down from your fit. He could feel your body slump against his chest and sighed softly when he heard your heart rate return to normal. “Angel?” He whispered gently, looking down at your face to check on you.
You tiredly hummed in response and nuzzling your face up into his neck, giving him the perfect view of the bruised mark he left on you. A perfect, beautiful little mark he knew was going to be on your skin forever. He sighed a little at feeling your body curling up against his that little bit, and picked you up to rearrange you in his lap until he was able to lay back on the bed with you cradled perfectly to his chest. “You did so well for me. So well Doll.” He mumbled fondly, kissing the top of your head.
You could only hum in response and unconsciously nibble his skin; something he found you both really enjoyed.

The Life of A Mobster's Wife || Arvin Russell
Russell || Main || Taglist
Mob!Arvin x Reader (Modern AU) Requested? Nah 9,818 words (pls send feedback bc this is the longest mob fic i've done and i want to know if it's alright or if i should just leave the mob au alone sksk) W: asshole!arvin, doesn't follow canon, curse words, killing, cheating, so many fucked up shit
* * * *
Being married to a mobster wasn’t easy. Everything has to be kept under wraps whilst having a lavish lifestyle. But when you’re young, you’re naive and you think that everything will work out and you’ll live happily ever after like some Disney fairytale. Everyone seems to forget that Disney princess stories were adapted from the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen. You didn’t know that your life would take such a dark turn the moment you met Arvin. The second he smiled at you, you were a goner. You were hooked on him; addicted. Everything should’ve been a red flag and the people around you told you that something about him seemed off. That should have alarmed you, but you took what they said personally. One by one, they all left you and only Arvin was left by your side. That should have been a sign too.
You told yourself that you’d be happy and you were. You were together for six months and then you got married. Now, six years later, you have a son who just turned six and a husband who doesn’t even sleep in the same bed as you anymore. You didn’t know what went wrong, but everything suddenly changed.
Arvin made sure you and your son were away from him, so he bought a big apartment in the Upper East Side for both of you. Arvin would stay there sometimes, but most of the time, he was working; killing, kidnapping people for ransom, selling weapons, selling drugs, etc. He wanted you away from those especially, Hayden; your son.
You wanted for things to change because Hayden hardly ever sees Arvin and they don’t have a connection. You also wanted another baby and you felt like Arvin was too busy for that. Wanting to focus on your husband, you decided it was best to hire a nanny to attend to your son’s needs. However, it was difficult to look for a nanny when you’re keeping everything a secret. You were lucky enough to hire a personal doctor.
Amelia Avery Hudson is a trauma surgeon, but you hired her as your personal doctor to treat your husband and his men if they have wounds. The other doctors you asked turned down your offer. When you asked Amelia, she immediately agreed. Amelia didn’t really have a choice. She applied because she needed to pay her student loans back. Plus, she needed to keep a roof over her head and rent was expensive in New York. She’s a fresh graduate and she had trouble finding a job that fitted her career path. Your offer was perfect and she saw it just in time. She hoped that no one took the job yet and luck was on her side because she’s been your personal doctor ever since.
Amelia’s only there during the evening from 7PM until 12 midnight. Having signed an NDA, she had no one to tell about the things she’s seen. She knew that if she even tried, Arvin would somehow find out and kill her with no mercy. She didn’t want to risk it.
Amelia’s feisty, but she was nice. The poor girl had a terrible life. She kept moving from one foster home to another when she was younger. Because of that, she grew up strong. She’s a remarkable woman and you were glad that you met her. You weren’t close, but you had a good relationship with her. Sometimes, she’d entertain Hayden which meant a lot to you.
You put up a poster for the nanny position and a few applicants were interested. You looked through their resumes and interviewed them one by one. Out of everyone, only one person stood out. Her name was Celeste.
“Tell me more about yourself, Celeste.” You smiled at her. You didn’t feel comfortable interviewing people in your apartment, so you always made sure the interviewees met you in your favorite restaurant in the upper east side.
“I-I’m Celeste Regina Dela Cruz. Eighteen years old. Um-”
“I know those things.” You laughed. “It’s on your resume. Just loosen up and tell me about yourself. Would it make you more comfortable if I went first?”
Celeste nodded, clearly intimidated. You smiled and said, “I’m Y/N Russell and I never finished college because I got married. I dropped out and left everything behind to be with my husband. I was also pregnant when we got married, so we never really had a decent alone time. I volunteer a lot for my son’s school and I make sure that my son has everything. Right now, he’s on a waiting list for multiple colleges.”
“Wait, how old is he?”
“He’s 6 years old.” You said before taking a sip of water. “It’s nice to be prepared, though. At least we know that he has a slot when the time comes.”
Celeste nodded and you motioned for her to start talking about herself. She widened her eyes and opened her mouth to talk, but the waiter arrived with your food. You both thanked the waiter and began eating.
“Please continue, Celeste.” You said as you took a bite of your food.
“I’m Celeste and I’m from the Philippines.” She said. “No wonder your accent is thick.” You pointed out and nodded for her to continue.
“I was able to come here because my tita- ay sorry- aunt; my aunt brought me here a year ago. I graduated high school, but I can’t go to college yet because my aunt is sick and she’s the one who pays for my schooling. College is very expensive and we can’t afford it anymore because of my aunt’s medicines.”
“I’m sorry to hear that.” You frowned. You felt bad, truly. Here you were, a college dropout but you’re living a luxurious lifestyle. Of course, that’s all thanks to Arvin. You were just lucky that you married a rich man. But as you sat in front of Celeste, you felt the need to do something nice for her. After all, in your mind, she was hired already.
“Oh, it’s okay.” Celeste smiled. “We’re getting by. My friend told me to apply to you and that’s why I’m here.”
“I understand.” You said as you folded your hands on the table. “When can you start?”
“Ha? What?” Celeste furrowed her eyebrows.
“You’re hired, Celeste.” You chuckled. “When can you start?”
“Um… as soon as possible!” Celeste exclaimed and you nodded.
“Pack your things and I’ll send for Pemberley to pick you up at your home address. I’d just like to confirm that your address on your resume is still your home, yes?” You asked and she nodded quickly.
“Okay. I’ll give it to Pemberley. He’ll pick you up at 9:30AM sharp.” You grinned. You both shook hands and continued eating.
The next day, you welcomed Celeste in your apartment and gave her a tour. She looked amazed at everything and it was entertaining to see. You told her that she wasn’t allowed in the master bedroom unless told and she wasn’t allowed in Arvin’s office.
You looked at your watch and gasped, “Oh, my! I’m late for a meeting. Make yourself at home and don’t forget to pick up Hayden from pre-school at 2:15. I have a note for you in your room. Please read it.” You quickly grabbed your bag and coat and left.
Celeste stood there and made her way to her room. After roaming around for 2 minutes, she finally saw her room and read the note.
Hello, Celeste! These are the rules:
Hayden can’t eat seafood. He is allergic.
No sugar-y or chocolate-y drinks before bed. Only one glass of milk with no sugar.
Sandwiches are not allowed to be eaten in his room because of crumbs.
If Hayden has no classes, you may take him to the park or the museum. As long as there are only a few people.
Stay away from crowded places. I beg.
Give Hayden a bath before bed.
Call me only when severe emergencies happen.
Your laundry schedule is the same as Hayden’s; TTh.
Always bring a small first aid kit in your bag and make sure you have a full container of hand sanitizer AT ALL TIMES.
Keep an eye on Hayden. He is your main priority.
P.S. Have fun! Eat whatever you want and if you need anything, please give Jose your own list before he goes grocery shopping.
Celeste taped the note on the wall next to her bed and started unpacking her things. She looked at her watch and realized that it was time to pick up Hayden from school. She quickly grabbed her small bag and ran to the front door.
Hayden’s school was just around the corner, so it was easy for Celeste to pick him up. There were many nannies waiting for kids to be picked up and Celeste was a bit overwhelmed that her job was actually starting. She never had training or anything.
A few more minutes of waiting, the door opened and out came a plethora of running and screaming children. During the apartment tour you gave her from hours before, she remembered you showing her a family picture that was recently taken. With that in mind, Celeste was able to remember what Hayden looked like.
Celeste looked around and saw a young boy by the steps, looking around. “Hayden!” Celeste shouted, causing the boy to look at her. Celeste walked over and said, “Hayden Russell?”
The boy nodded. She smiled, “I’m your new nanny. My name is Celeste.”
Using his manners, Hayden shook Celeste’s hand. Celeste grinned and took Hayden’s bag from him. She held his hand and they walked home. The walk home was short and quiet, but it was comfortable. When they walked into the fancy apartment building and into the elevator, Hayden spoke up.
“Can I call you ‘Celie’, instead? Like a super agent secret name? It’ll be cool.” Hayden said, causing Celeste to smile at him.
“Sure!” Celeste said.
When they arrived in the apartment unit, you were already home. Hayden ran up to you and you bent down to pick him up and hug him.
“How was school?” You asked as you kissed his forehead.
“It was fun! We learned so many things and we had arts and crafts and we-”
“That’s great, sweetie!” You smiled before putting him down. “You can play sudoku in the living room.”
Hayden made a face, “But I hate sudoku.”
“Yes, but it’ll help you stimulate your brain. Think of it as a mental exercise.” You grinned before softly nudging him to the living room where his sudoku book was waiting for him on the coffee table. Hayden begrudgingly walked to the living room and you turned to Celeste, “We need to talk.”
You turned around and walked to your husband’s office. He wasn’t there anyway and you had the freedom to speak business there. “Follow me.” You said without looking behind you. Celeste was scared shitless. She did the sign of the cross and prayed on her way to Arvin’s office.
“Aba Ginoong Maria, napupuno ka ng grasya, Ang Panginoong Diyos ay sumasaiyo. Bukod kang pinagpala sa babaeng lahat at pinagpala rin naman ang anak mong si Hesus. Santa Maria, Ina ng Diyos, ipanalangin mo kaming makasalanan ngayon at kung kami’y mamamatay. Amen. (Hail Mary, Full of Grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you amongst women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners. Now and at the hour of our death. Amen.)” Celeste muttered under her breath. You opened the door to Arvin’s office and was immediately met with the darkness due to the closed curtains and lights that were not switched on. The only light present was the sun’s light peeping through the spaces between the curtains. You walked in and Celeste followed suit and closed the door behind her.
You sat on Arvin’s chair and read the papers that you previously laid there on the table. “Please, sit.” You motioned for her to sit in front of you and she did.
“I told you that I had a meeting earlier. I met with important people and we went through your records.” You told Celeste. Celeste knew that she didn’t do anything wrong and that she had a clean record, but that didn’t stop her from worrying.
Was she in trouble for declining her father’s call from the Philippines? Or perhaps she was in trouble for cursing her cousin. She wasn’t sure.
“And I’d like to applaud you for having remarkable and outstanding grades. Straight A’s?! I didn’t know you were smart. You didn’t put in your resume that you were a valedictorian.” You smiled sweetly. You were impressed.
“I didn’t put it because I don’t want to be hired because I’m a valedictorian. I want to be hired because you want me for the job.” Celeste said and you nodded in understanding.
“That’s very humble of you.” You smiled. “Anyway, I submitted your records to multiple colleges and they immediately got back to me.”
You opened the drawer and took out at least ten envelopes from well known universities. You handed the envelopes to her and motioned for her to read each one.
Yale University
Stanford University
Harvard University
New York University
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Cornell University
Brown University
University of California, Los Angeles
University of Pennsylvania
Columbia University
“I want you to look through those and read each one. You also have the freedom to check each university’s website to see what they look and what they offer and if what they’re offering is what you want, tell me.” You told her.
“That’s very nice of you, ma’am.” Celeste said, clearly overwhelmed with what you just told her. “I can’t afford it. It’s too- mahal. Ang mahal po kasi.(expensive. It’s too expensive.)”
You stared at her as she spoke to you in a foreign language. Not just any foreign language, her native language. She quickly realized what she said and said, “The tuition fee is too expensive.”
“You know, for a valedictorian, you’re kind of slow.” You joked. “Sweetie, you don’t have to worry about it because we’ll pay for your tuition fee.”
She gasped and squealed, “Thank you!”. She jumped out of her chair, did a small dance, and went up to hug you which took you by surprise. You smiled brightly and patted her arm as a sign of affection. It felt nice to do something good for once even though your husband does a lot of bad things. Sometimes you think that all the good things you’ve done are payback for all the bad things Arvin has done.
Celeste quickly let go of you and went back to her seat. She cleared her throat and apologized and you waved your hand and said that it was nothing. You debated with yourself on whether you should tell Celeste about your husband’s mob or not. You decided against it and told yourself that you’ll tell her when she asks.
“I’ll enroll you in any university you pick and I’ll make an arrangement that your tasks during the day until you pick up Hayden, are done face to face. Meaning, you’ll physically attend classes at the university of choice. Of course, that only applies here in New York.” You explained.
“Should you choose a university that isn't in New York, you'll be enrolled in online classes." You told her and she nodded.
"Yes, ma'am. Thank you so much!" Celeste said sincerely which made you smile.
"You're welcome. Study well and you can join Hayden in the living room now. I'm sure he's done with his sudoku. He should be reading his French book now." You said as you looked at the time on your phone before standing up. Celeste stood up too and held the letters close to her chest.
"I think my husband is coming home tonight, so we'll eat dinner at his favorite restaurant. Get ready at 6PM. Knowing him, he'll be late." You said and left the office with Celeste following behind. She closed the door and quickly went to the living room to check out the letters.
You went straight to your shared bedroom with Arvin and quickly went to your walk in closet that Arvin built for you. You scanned through the rack for dresses and scanned through multiple shoes to match your dress. You knew it was still 3:30PM, but you liked being prepared.
Your phone rang and you immediately answered it without looking to see who it was. “Hello?” You answered while grabbing a cerulean colored cocktail dress from the rack and holding it against you and checking it in front of a mirror.
“Y/N, honey, it’s me.” Arvin said. His voice was raspy and there’s no doubt that it’s because of his smoking habit. He’s trying to lessen it because according to him, he didn’t want to have cancer and he didn’t want his life cut short. Despite that, he still smoked… less than before. He was really trying. Key word: trying.
“You’re smoking right now, huh?” You asked, already tired of his shit. You loved him so much, but you didn’t have the energy of being his wife anymore. Probably because he doesn’t treat you like one.
“Mind your own business, woman!” Arvin hissed. You knew he didn’t mean it, but it still kind of hurt. “I’m just worried about you and you said that you’ll lessen the smoking.” You said calmly. You didn’t want to fight with him; it’s useless.
“I am. This is my third stick today and it’s late in the afternoon.” Arvin said, pushing his hair back. “Anyway, I called to tell you that I’ll be coming home tonight and I’m sleeping there.”
“Wow, it’s been a while. How long will you stay here?” You asked, hiding your excitement.
“I’m taking 7 days off. Starting tomorrow.” Arvin said. He gathered his things, got up from his seat and walked out of his office. “I’m leaving The Hamptons as we speak.”
“Alright. I’ll be waiting for you.” You said.
“What’re you up to right now, darling?” He asked, exiting the mansion and went straight to the limo. The door was being held open by Jeeves, the chauffeur. Arvin got inside and Jeeves closed the door before quickly getting in and driving.
“I’m picking a dress for tonight. I made reservations because you’re coming home.” You told him and he smiled.
“That’s sweet of you, darling. I’ll text you when I’m almost home, okay?” Arvin said.
“Oh, ok-”
Arvin hung up the phone and you sighed. You put the phone on top of the small chair before picking another dress.
Hours later, you received a text from Arvin saying that he was already around the corner and that he’ll just wait for you in the limo. You quickly finished getting ready and walked out of your room wearing a steel blue dress that you knew Arvin loved. You wore heels that matched it and wore dangling earrings that you wore on your wedding anniversary.
Celeste was wearing a polka-dotted blouse and a skirt that ran until her knees. She was wearing an old pair of Mary Jane’s and her hair was neatly combed. She had a hairpin to clip it back and on her shoulder, was a ‘nanny bag’ that you gave her. Hayden was wearing black pants and a button up that you bought last year. He was wearing black sneakers to match his outfit.
All three of you left the apartment and quickly made your way to the elevator. The elevator ride was short and before you knew it, you were in the lobby. Seeing the limo from afar, Hayden ran towards it causing Celeste to run after him. You walked quickly knowing that Arvin hated waiting.
Hayden opened the limo’s door and went inside to give his father a hug. “I missed you, daddy!” Hayden said with a smile and kissed his cheek. Arvin hugged back tightly and kissed the top of his head.
Arvin loved Hayden. The boy was like a copy of him and Hayden was Arvin’s most prized possession. He was the reason that Arvin worked hard and he was the reason that Arvin is sane. Although he doesn’t mind having more kids, Hayden was more than enough for him and he was content with that.
“I missed you too, buddy!” Arvin smiled widely and sat Hayden on his lap. Hayden started talking about what happened while he was away and Arvin was listening. Celeste went inside the limo and sat across from Arvin causing him to glance at Celeste up and down with furrowed eyebrows. You quickly got in the limo next to Arvin and closed the door. Jeeves asked if everyone was ready and you said yes. Jeeves started driving and he turned the music down a bit.
This caught your attention and you internally groaned. You looked at Arvin and quietly said, “Really? You’re playing this music again?”
Not leaving his gaze on Celeste, he said, “My limo, my music.”
You rolled your eyes and looked out the window. Arvin’s music played through the speakers and you decided to help yourself with a glass of champagne just to get through the night.
“Are you washed? (Are you washed?) In the blood (In the blood) In the soul cleansing blood of the lamb?”
The music filled the quiet limo, Hayden stopped talking a minute ago, finding the scenery more amusing than his own stories. Arvin nudged you and whispered, “Who the hell is the chick?”
“Hayden’s new nanny.” You whispered. “I hired her yesterday. She’s from the Philippines and-”
“You know what? I’ll interview her during dinner.” Arvin cut you off. “I already interviewed her and she’s qualified.” You hissed.
“Really? Doesn’t seem like it.” Arvin said. “I’ll do the talking. You already got to know her and it’s my turn now. I want the best for my son.”
“She’s very intelligent, you know.”
“I don’t give a shit, Y/N.”
“Daddy said a no-no word.” Hayden said, his eyes not leaving the window. “Also, can I get a puppy? Jason’s daddy bought him a new puppy and I want one too.”
“Tomorrow.” Arvin answered. “I’ll pick you up after school and we’ll buy a puppy.”
“Arvin, babe, he’s not responsible enough for a puppy yet.” You told him, but Arvin shrugged you off. He didn’t care what you thought. If his son wants a puppy, he’s getting a puppy.
You arrived at the restaurant and immediately got out of the car. You went down first and Hayden followed after. Arvin glanced at Celeste and motioned for her to get out first and she did. Arvin was last and he closed the door behind him. “Buy yourself some food, Jeeves.” Arvin said as he handed $200 to Jeeves through the driver’s side. “Pick us up when I text you. Don’t be too far, alright?”
“Yes, sir.” Jeeves said before driving off.
You all waited for Arvin and all four of you entered the fancy restaurant. The hostess led you to your table that had a small card that said: ‘Reserved for Mrs. Russell’ in cursive. All four of you sat down and the hostess provided menus for you, Arvin, and Celeste. A kids’ menu was handed to Hayden and he smiled and thanked the hostess. Holding a menu made Hayden feel like a real man. He wanted to be just like his father and that scared you because Hayden doesn’t know about Arvin’s job. Neither did Celeste and you felt sick to your stomach knowing that you brought two innocent people in danger. If things get worse, you’ll fire Celeste and let her go back to her family while you make sure that traces of her are gone. After all, if they find Celeste, she might get killed. Chances are, her family gets killed too. It’s all connected.
Anyway, all Hayden knew was that his father takes down bad guys. To him, Arvin’s a hero. But you knew better. Hayden will find out when he’s older. One day, he’ll understand that not all people who take down bad guys are heroes.
You all ordered and handed the hostess back the menus. Arvin took a sip of his water and cleared his throat before turning his attention to Celeste. “What’s your name, and where are you from?” Arvin asked.
Celeste stared at him in shock, “A-Are you talking to me, sir?”
“Who else would I be talking to? Of course, I’m talking to you.” He scoffed which made you slap his arm lightly. “Introduce yourself to me. We haven’t met and if my wife thinks you’re qualified for this job, it is also my right to see if you’re qualified as well.”
“U-Um, okay. My name is Celeste Regina Dela Cruz and I’m from the Philippines. My aunt brought me here last year. I only graduated high school and-”
“Alright. How did you find out about this job?” Arvin asked.
“My friend told me about it, so I applied.” Celeste said. A waiter came by and poured champagne on yours and Arvin’s glasses while he poured water on Celeste’s and Hayden’s.
Arvin nodded, “Alright. Were you a nanny before this?”
“No, sir.” Celeste answered.
“So, what makes you qualified for this job? Why are you here?” Arvin questioned.
“I’m here because… I want to work and I think that being a nanny is the only way.” Celeste answered and Arvin nodded before turning to you.
“Have you discussed her salary?” He asked and you shook your head. He nodded and turned to Celeste, “Will $100 a day be enough?”
“Yes, sir.” Celeste nodded furiously.
“Alright, then. $100, it is. I’ll give you extra if you’re good.” He said before taking out his phone and kept himself busy. You gave Celeste a tight lipped smile and did the same.
What Arvin said struck a nerve on you. You knew of his affairs and ladies, that’s why you never visited your mansion in The Hamptons. You knew there’d be a plethora of girls who are throwing themselves at your husband. You also knew that he wasn’t faithful and you knew that because he smelled like women’s perfume and sometimes he’d have a smudge of foundation on his white shirt. You stayed with him anyway.
“Thank you, sir.” Celeste said with a small smile. She turned her attention to Hayden and entertained him with stories from back home.
“How was work?” You asked Arvin and he shrugged.
“Nothing special. Rodriguez finally paid back what he owes, so that’s that. Also, dad visited me this morning. He said that he wanted to see Hayden. I told him I’ll think about it.” Arvin said with no emotion.
Arvin’s relationship with his dad, Willard, was rocky. It was no secret that Arvin preferred the company of his mom rather than his dad. Charlotte, Arvin’s mom, was the sweetest lady you’ve ever met. She helped you with your pregnancy and she’s the one who told Arvin to keep you away from the mob things. She didn’t want Hayden to grow up in such a bloody environment. Besides, it wasn’t safe. She’d occasionally visit you and Hayden when she’s not busy.
“How were things while I was gone?” Arvin asked.
“Same old. The only new thing was hiring Celeste.” You told him and he nodded. He moved closer to you and asked in a low voice, “Does she know?”
You shook your head and he nodded, “Good. It should be kept that way.”
“We’ll be paying for her college education.” You said quietly and Arvin’s head quickly turned to you as he glared daggers at you. You paid him no mind as you took a sip of your champagne. “We’ll talk later.” Arvin said sternly.
The waiter arrived with your orders and all four of you began eating in silence. Celeste was too awkward to start a conversation, Hayden didn’t know what to say, Arvin will talk to you later in his office, and you didn’t want to engage in a conversation nor start it.
After that, you ordered desserts. You initially didn’t plan to order any, but Hayden wanted the strawberry cake that he saw at the other table. Therefore, Arvin ordered four slices of that. As Arvin took bites of it, he chuckled which made you look at him through your peripheral vision.
“What’s so funny?” You asked, before eating the cake that was on your fork and chewing it. Arvin shook his head, “Nothing. I just remembered our wedding cake. It was similar to this.”
You smiled at the thought and nodded, “Yeah, they are similar.”
Your complicated marriage with Arvin made you stressed. You didn’t know how to act around him, but he was a great actor. He acted like he wasn’t cheating on you, he acted like he wanted the domesticated life, he acted like everything about his family was normal, and above all, he acted like he was still in love with you.
The truth is, Arvin isn’t in love with you anymore. But he loved you; he still does. He will never stop loving and caring about you. He just doesn’t get the same feelings as he used to. Before, one look at you gave him butterflies in his stomach and the world turned into slow motion. Now, he looks at you and he feels nothing. In his mind, you’re just his wife and the mother of his child. He didn’t know what to do anymore, but he knew he couldn’t leave you. Leaving you would ruin him because he knew you’d take Hayden away from him.
Being unfaithful wasn’t part of his plan, but it just happened. Then it kept happening with different girls and he hated himself every time. He knew that you knew. After all, he wasn’t discreet about it either. Both of you just pretend that nothing’s happening, it’s all swept under the rug and it’s killing you.
After dessert, Arvin texted Jeeves to pick you up as you called a waiter for your bill. After paying, Jeeves was already outside. Celeste got up from her seat and carried Hayden, who was falling asleep already. You and Arvin followed.
The ride home was shorter and quicker. When you arrived in the apartment, Celeste went straight to Hayden’s room with him fast asleep in her arms. Arvin cleared his throat which caught your attention. You looked at him and he nodded his head towards his office. He went there and you trailed behind him.
When he opened the door, he switched on the lights and went straight to his desk. You entered and closed the door. You sat in front of him and waited for him to talk.
“Since when were we paying for someone else’s education?” Arvin asked.
“Since now.” You answered boldly. He bit the inside of his cheek and nodded, “Why?”
“I’ve seen her records. She’s a valedictorian and she deserves to go to college. Her aunt can’t pay for it and I volunteered. It’s a little ‘thank you’ for taking care of Hayden. Taking care of a child isn’t easy.” You explained.
“That’s her job. Her little ‘thank you’ is her salary.” Arvin said with his thick accent.
“She deserves more than that.” You told him. “We have so much money, anyway. Paying for her college education won’t even cause a dent in our bank account. Besides, you told her that if she’s good, you’ll give her extra cash. Now, what do you mean by that?”
You and Arvin stared at each other in silence. The tension was thick. It was obvious that you both have problems that you refused to bring up.
“Let’s go to bed.” Arvin said after a minute. He stood up and you stood up too. Both of you left his office and he turned the lights off. He went straight to your shared bedroom and you went to Hayden’s bedroom. When you peeked inside, Hayden was already asleep and wearing his pajamas. You took off your shoes and walked to his bed. You laid down next to him and hugged him as tears streamed down your face.
Being Arvin’s wife wasn’t easy and it wasn’t like the fantasy you had initially thought. You wanted a happy family, but Arvin doesn’t even lay with you anymore. Your day was tiring and chaotic with a mix of high and low emotions. You knew that it would repeat the next day and you already dreaded it. For now, you’ll just cuddle your 6-year-old son and try to get some sleep.
The next few days consisted of doing your daily tasks. The only difference is, Arvin was home and he joined in various tasks. He accompanied Celeste in picking up Hayden at school and true to his word, Arvin bought Hayden a puppy.
Now, the puppy is part of your daily tasks too. Hayden named his puppy 'Jack' and he loved it. Part of his new daily life, Hayden always made sure that Jack was nearby whenever he did anything whether it be sudoku or reading his French picture books.
Arvin loved Jack too. He even swore to Jack that he'd come home often. You rolled your eyes at that, but chose not to say anything. While you thought that nothing in your marriage will surprise you, you thought wrong. After his 7 days off, Arvin came home every night solely because of Jack and Hayden.
'Perfect.' You thought. 'At least he's coming home every night.'
It was now Sunday which meant that Hayden had horseback riding lessons at the back of your mansion in The Hamptons. Celeste was watching over Hayden with her cheap sunglasses on. The skirt of her dress was slightly lifting up due to the wind. You offered your hat to her, but she declined. She said that she was used to the sun because of the weather in the Philippines.
You and Arvin were in his office looking over Celeste’s university of choice. You were making calls and Arvin was checking out the university’s website on his laptop. You were currently on hold and you grabbed Celeste’s acceptance letter from Arvin’s desk. The envelope was open and you sat down on Arvin’s desk as you took out the letter from the envelope and read it.

You finished reading and before you knew it, you weren’t on hold anymore. You began talking to the person in charge and Arvin glanced at you from time to time while scrolling through Cornell’s website.
“I think she’ll enjoy Cornell, darling.” Arvin said, exiting Cornell’s site and you glanced at him and gave him a thumbs up before turning your attention to the call again. After an hour, you end the call and turn to Arvin.
“They agreed to let her do online classes and occasionally attend classes physically.” You informed him and he nodded.
“Do you think Hayden will get into Cornell? It’s a nice university.” Arvin asked. “I don’t really care where he gets in. I’ll be proud regardless.”
You gave him a small smile and said, “That’s wonderful. Speaking of Hayden, his horseback riding lessons should be done by now. Let’s go.”
You left Arvin’s office and he quickly followed behind you. “Is there something wrong?” He asked and you shook your head, not saying anything.
Days went on that way. You talked to Arvin less and less and he was starting to catch on to that. He also noticed that you don’t sleep next to him anymore and that you always made sure that you weren’t home when he comes home from the mob business.
-
The party was in full swing and the children were having so much fun. Arvin wasn’t a fan of parties, but he decided that it would be nice to have other children around the apartment. Hayden’s friends and classmates played around and the nannies were all huddled in one corner as they watched the children. Some of them even played with Jack.
You were with the parents and you couldn’t find Arvin. It was time for Hayden to blow the candles and you wanted you and Arvin to be there beside him. You looked for him everywhere and you forgot to check his home office. ‘He’s most likely in there.’ You told yourself.
Without knocking, you walked in and gasped when you saw the sight in front of you. The back of Arvin’s chair was facing you, but you didn’t need the chair to fully face you to know what they’re doing. A young woman, in her early 20s, was sitting on Arvin’s lap and you could see her bouncing up and down. Arvin wasn’t even hiding the fact that he was enjoying it. You quickly left and closed the door.
You knew he was cheating on you, but seeing him in action made it so real. You told yourself that you weren’t going to cry, but the tears you held back were freely streaming down your face. You quickly wiped them away and Celeste saw you.
“Ma’am, are you okay?” She asked. She was worried about you. You faked a smile and nodded, “Yeah, I’m alright. I just can’t believe that Hayden is 7 already! Time flies by so fast.”
Celeste nodded and smiled, “Okay. Hayden wants to blow his cake now.”
“Okay. Tell him to get ready.” You told her and she nodded, quickly leaving you alone. You glanced at the door of Arvin’s office and debated on calling Arvin’s attention or not. You decided that you weren’t going to call for him. If he cared about the little family you made, he would have the decency to not cheat on you on your son’s birthday. With that in mind, you held your head high and walked to the kitchen where everyone was waiting. Hayden was sitting on the bar stool while his cake was placed in front of him, on top of the countertop.
You smiled brightly at him and stood next to him. You kissed his cheek and gave him a side hug. “Where’s daddy?” Hayden asked you, looking up at you with innocent eyes.
“He’s busy cheating on mommy, sweetheart.” You wanted to say so bad, but you held back. It wasn’t nice to bring personal problems to parties. Especially your 7-year-old son’s party.
“He’s answering an important call for work, buddy. He’ll catch up later.” You lied. Hayden frowned, but his mood changed when everyone started singing ‘Happy Birthday’ while some took pictures of you two. Celeste lit the candle that was shaped like the number 7. After the song, Hayden closed his eyes and made a wish before blowing his candle. Everyone clapped and you gave everyone a slice of cake.
When everyone was eating, Arvin finally walked out of his office with the young woman with him. He gave her $100 and whispered, “This is for not telling anyone and for spending time with me.” He winked at her and she blushed before quickly walking off to the kid she was watching.
Unbeknownst to them, Celeste saw the whole thing. She looked at you, Hayden, and Arvin and she looked torn. She wanted to tell you, but she was scared of Arvin. She thought that he was sketchy and she didn’t fully trust him. If she doesn't tell you, she’ll feel bad. So she quickly went to her room, called her sister and sat on her bed.
Toni, her sister, answered, “Oh, bakit ka napatawag? (Why did you call?)”
“May chika ako! Tangina, ‘di ko alam kung ano gagawin ko. (I have tea! Fuck, I don’t know what to do.)” Celeste said. She was panicking in her room and she truly didn’t know what to do.
“Ano ‘yon? (What is it?)” Toni asked.
“‘Di ako sigurado pero parang nambababae itong tatay ng alaga ko. Sabihin ko kaya sa asawa niya? (I’m not sure, but I think the dad of the kid I’m taking care of is cheating on his wife. What if I tell his wife?)” Celeste bit her nails nervously. Toni was quiet and said, “Ikaw bahala. Kung sa tingin mong kakainin ka ng konsensya mo, sabihin mo na. Kung kaya mong magkunwari na wala kang alam, edi ‘wag mo sabihin. (It’s up to you. If you think that your conscience will eat you alive, tell her. If you can pretend that you don’t know anything, then don’t say anything.)”
“Kung ikaw nasa pwesto ko, ano gagawin mo? (If you were in my place, what would you do?)”
“Wala. Kunwari wala akong alam. Saka ko na lang sasabihin pag tinanong ako. (Nothing. I’ll pretend that I don’t know anything. I’ll just tell her if she asks me.)” Toni answered.
“Sige. Chat nalang kita mamaya. Kailangan na ako sa labas. (Okay. I’ll chat with you later. I think they need me outside.)”
“Okay, bye!” Toni said before hanging up. Celeste took a deep breath and walked out of her room.
Some people were already leaving and Celeste immediately grabbed a big garbage bag to pick up the paper plates and paper cups that were left behind.
“Where have you been?” You asked Celeste sweetly. She jumped at the sound of your voice which was weird because she wasn’t jumpy.
“I-I went to my room to talk to my sister.” Celeste said. It was true, but she didn’t tell you why. You nodded and said, “Send her my regards.”
Celeste nodded and proceeded to clean up. You walked away and thanked your guests for coming to Hayden’s party. You’ve been avoiding Arvin for hours now and it was like he wanted to talk to you alone. You didn’t want to.
When everything was clean, it was already time for Hayden’s nighttime yoga routine. He quickly went to his room and started getting dressed in his yoga outfit. Celeste went to her room to grab her books, so that she could read while Hayden did his yoga. Jack went with them and Celeste was more than happy to know that the dog was joining them.
It was only you and Arvin in the living room. The tension was thick. You closed the door after the last guest left and Arvin started talking, “Why didn’t you call me when Hayden blew out his candle?”
“Was I supposed to?” You snapped and gave him a death glare which he seemed to return.
“Of course you were supposed to! I’m his dad and I should be there for him!”
“Why weren’t you present for most of the day, then? Where were you when I needed you? Where were you when I needed help with Hayden’s gifts? When I needed someone to give drinks to the adults, where were you? You weren’t around, Arvin. You were busy with God knows what!” You raised your voice.
“What are you saying?!” Arvin shouted.
“I’m saying that you’re not there for me and you haven’t been for a long fucking time!” You shouted back. This started a screaming match between the two of you. You didn’t even notice how loud you were shouting.
Hayden stopped doing yoga and looked at Celeste, “What’s going on?” Celeste looked at Hayden while listening closely. She sighed and told him, “Stay here. I’ll be right back.”
Celeste walked out of Hayden’s room not knowing that Hayden followed her out. She only realized that Hayden followed her when she heard Hayden shout, “Stop fighting!”
You and Arvin stopped to turn your heads to Hayden who was already crying at the sight of his angry parents. The sight of Hayden crying made you cry too. You walked towards him, but he ran away to hide in his room. He locked the door and Celeste was just standing there awkwardly.
You wiped away your tears and to your surprise, Celeste spoke up. “Ma’am, sir, um, please don’t fight anymore because Hayden will not like it. If you can’t stop fighting each other, do it for Hayden.” Celeste said softly as she looked at both of you.
“Hayden is a very nice kid and he’s very smart and he’s very obedient. He does everything you tell him to do even if he doesn’t like it because he knows that it will make you happy. He doesn’t deserve to have parents that are fighting all the time and he doesn’t deserve a family that has problems. If you have problems, just talk about it. Don’t yell.” Celeste told both of you. She was trying to be a peacemaker and both of you commended her for it. It wasn’t her job to be a peacemaker, but she’s being one right now.
“Sir, I saw you a while ago at the party with a girl and you gave her money. Being unfaithful is not nice. You should be faithful to your wife because she’s doing her best. If you don’t love her anymore, why are you here?” Celeste said. You knew she didn’t mean anything wrong, but Arvin took it the wrong way.
“Excuse me?” Arvin asked, offended. “I’m offended that you had to ask me why I’m here. I’m here because I live here. It’s my money, it’s my apartment, and everything here is from me! So don’t ask me why I’m-”
“She’s right, Arvin.” You said and turned to look at him. “I’m tired of all this fighting and all this pretending. From now on, I’ll sleep in Hayden’s room. If you enjoy sleeping with different women, you’re surely going to enjoy sleeping alone.” You snapped before leaving the living room to go to the bathroom to wash up.
Arvin glared at Celeste angrily and she said, “Sir, I understand if you fire me. It’s fine. I’m sorry for disrespecting you in your house. But before you fire me, think about what I said, sir. Also, think about your son. You can’t take care of him because of your job and your wife can’t take care of him because she’s busy with different things. If you fire me, no one else will look out for Hayden. Thank you for listening, sir.”
Celeste looked down and went to Hayden’s room in hopes that she could coax him into unlocking the door and letting her in.
Arvin sighed in distress and rubbed his face with his hands before going to the master’s bedroom and slamming the door.
-
Arvin didn’t know what happened. All he remembered was going to an event that was attended by his mob allies when all of a sudden, his rival mob attacked them all. A lot of shooting happened and he was sure that his mob friends were killed. He hoped they weren’t.
People were screaming and he heard someone crying at some point. His people were scattered everywhere and he didn’t know if they were alright. He didn’t get out scott-free, though. He got shot on his side and he was shooting his rivals all while trying to get out of the venue to get in the car and go back to his mansion.
When he arrived, Amelia was already on her feet and doing her tasks. She was the only doctor, but she pushed through and it amazed Arvin how Amelia could help them. He admired her and thought that she was strong. Her job isn’t easy, after all.
A few hours of taking out bullets from bodies and declaring one person dead on arrival, Amelia was finally finished with her job. She was in Arvin’s office to get her paycheck while Arvin wrote her salary on a check.
“$20,000” Arvin wrote before handing it to her with a tight-lipped smile. Amelia took the check gratefully.
“Thank you, Mr. Russell.” Amelia smiled before grabbing her bag and leaving. Arvin sighed and leaned back on his chair. He hasn’t been home for a while and Hayden didn’t want to speak with him whenever he called you to talk to Hayden. It broke his heart.
He put a hand on his gun wound and closed his eyes to rest for a while to think about his life. He never really thought that his life would turn out like this, but he knew that someday he’d have to take over the mob. When he took over, that’s when he met you.
In truth, he didn’t know how or what to feel when it comes to you. He’s confused. His thoughts were interrupted by his phone ringing which made him groan. He opened his eyes, grabbed his phone, and answered it without looking at the caller ID.
“Hello?” He answered.
“Hello, Russell.” His rival, George, said. Arvin could almost imagine the smug look on George’s face. Arvin gripped his phone tighter, “What do you want? You killed one of my men. Isn’t that enough?”
“Quite frankly, no. I would send my condolences to the deceased family, but I don’t really give a shit. Besides, it would teach you a lesson from stealing from me!”
“For the last time, I didn’t steal from you!” Arvin shouted.
“Your men joined my mob and stole from me!”
“It’s not stealing if they’re getting what’s rightfully ours.” Arvin hissed. “If anything, you stole from me!”
George scoffed, “If you really think that way, fine. Just know that you’ll pay for it.”
“I’m not paying for anything, George.” Arvin chuckled bitterly before pouring himself some scotch with one hand.
“Not even for your family?” George asked. “Wow, that shit’s cold.”
“What’re you talking about?” Arvin asked with furrowed eyebrows as he took a sip of his drink.
“Oh, you’re not informed?” George said sarcastically. “Your wife and son are here with me. If you don’t give me back what you stole from me, I’ll kill them. You know where to find me, Russell.”
George hung up and Arvin yelled in frustration. He sat up and winced because of his wound. He ran a hand through his hair and thought about how he’ll save you and Hayden. Him and his men talked about plans and when they were able to finalize, they wasted no time in going to George’s place.
The plan was going to George and giving him a duffel bag filled with rocks, so that he’ll think it’s the thing he was looking for; the thing he claimed Arvin’s men stole. Arvin decided that it’d be best for his men to ‘give it back’ to George while he and a few guys would look for you and Hayden.
Arvin heard George shouting about everything being fake and he heard gunshots. In a span of a few hours, his mob was shooting people again. He heard Hayden’s familiar cries and followed it while being covered by Javier, one of his men.
When Arvin found the room where George kept you and Hayden, he gasped when he saw you lying in your own blood, unconscious next to a weeping Hayden.
“Daddy!” Hayden cried and it made Arvin’s heart break. He had so many questions running through his mind. How long have you been unconscious? Why are you unconscious? Did they hurt both of you? Where’s Celeste?
Arvin quickly untied Hayden and he didn’t hesitate to wrap his arms around him. “It’s okay, buddy. Everything’ll be okay.” Arvin whispered and kissed the top of Hayden’s head. He lets go of Hayden and knelt beside your body. He untied you and panicked when he saw multiple gun wounds on you. He knew that if you stayed longer, you’d die.
Arvin turned to Hayden and said, “Listen to me, okay? Take care of mommy and don’t go anywhere. Got it?”
Hayden nodded and wiped his tears. “Are you coming back?”
“Of course, I’m coming back.” Arvin reassured him. He stood up and quickly left the room and shot every person from his rival mob. When he saw George, all Arvin saw was red and started beating the shit out of his rival.
George didn’t get a chance to defend himself because Arvin just kept throwing punches and hits. Arvin wanted George dead for bringing his family into their problems. Arvin didn’t care about George’s bloody and bruised state. Arvin pushed George to the ground and whipped out his gun.
“This is for my family.” Arvin panted. He looked at George in the eye and shot his head mercilessly. He looked at his surroundings and saw that almost everyone in George’s mob was dead and the few that were alive, are either unconscious or terribly bruised.
Arvin ran back to the room and picked up Hayden. “I told you I’d be back.” He said as Hayden rested his head on the crook of Arvin’s neck.
Arvin ordered one of his men to carry you and immediately drove to the mansion. Arvin called Amelia and said that he needed her ASAP.
“Mr. Russell, it’s late and it’s not my schedule.” Amelia said groggily. She was already deeply sleeping and Arvin disturbed her greatly.
“I know, I know and I’m sorry. I need you ASAP, Amelia. It’s my wife this time.” Arvin said frantically. They arrived at the mansion and rushed you to the medical room where Amelia was hours before.
Hayden was asleep in Arvin’s arms and he went to his room to let Hayden sleep there comfortably. He hears shuffling around on Amelia’s end as he did his best to tuck Hayden in.
“I’m on my way.” Amelia said.
“Okay, please hurry.” Arvin pleaded before hanging up. He looked at Hayden and smiled a bit at the sight of his son fast asleep. He quietly left the room and rushed to the medical room where you were being kept. He wasn’t a doctor and he didn’t know what to do. Time was running out and for the first time in years, he finally saw you.
He finally realized how important you are in his life. He finally realized that it would hurt him deeply if you were gone. He couldn’t imagine going on with life without you by his side. He didn’t notice Amelia walking in the medical room and he only acknowledged her presence when he was being escorted out of the room by her.
“Wait, no! I want to say, Am-”
“You know you can’t.” Amelia said sternly. “It’s protocol. You can’t be here. Just wait outside.” Amelia pushed the mobster out the room and locked it. The whole time he waited, Arvin was pacing back and forth. He was restless. Who wouldn’t be? If your spouse is undergoing a procedure, you’d want to know about them, right? Arvin had no clue how you were doing.
Three hours later, the door opened and Amelia stepped out of the room. She was clearly tired. Arvin stopped pacing and stared at Amelia who only said, “She’s okay.”
“Thank you.” Arvin sighed in relief as he walked towards the room.
“You don’t need to pay me. Consider it a freebie. I know what it’s like to grow up without a mom at a young age and I don’t want that to happen to Hayden. Take care, sir.” Amelia smiled softly before leaving.
Arvin went into the room and pulled up a chair to sit next to your bed. He held your hand and stared at you. It’s been a long time since he’s seen your face. You were beautiful. You always have been and always will. Seeing you unconscious scared him greatly and it made him realize how much he still loves and cares about you.
“Y/N, I’m sorry this happened to you. I mean it.” Arvin said softly. “I love you. I’m sorry it took me almost losing you to realize that. You don’t know how sorry I am, sweetheart.”
“I can’t imagine the pain you must have felt when Celeste came clean about seeing me and some other girl on Hayden’s birthday. But I know you, Y/N. I know that you’ve always had a feeling that I was unfaithful and I can’t imagine your heartbreak when you found out about it being true.”
“When we first got together, I promised I wouldn’t do anything to hurt you. I’m sorry for breaking that promise. I’ll be better for you, Y/N. I’ll come home and I’ll stay with you whenever you need me. I’ll be present for Hayden and I don’t want to argue with you anymore. I want us to go back to normal and I know it’ll be hard for you, but I’m willing to try.” Arvin said with hope in his eyes.
“I also know that you’re awake and that you can hear me clearly.” He added as he looked at you. You slowly opened your eyes and looked at him, “I hate that you know me well.”
“I actually love it. It makes me feel like I’m still in touch with you. Lord knows I’d be heartbroken if I can’t read you anymore.” He chuckled lightly before pressing a light kiss on your hand.
“Did you mean what you said? Trying again?” You asked and he nodded. “Then, I’ll try too.”
However, some relationships work out and your marriage turns into something better than before. It happened to you and Arvin. He kept his promises and soon, you were blessed with a second child. Celeste was alright and you treated her like a sister you never had. In return for sending her to college, she did well in her studies and made sure to show you her grades which made you proud.
Everything was coming together and you were thankful that things took a nice turn. Your life as a mobster's wife wasn’t so bad, after all.

kim seokjin
Tumblr media
The first thing that Jin noticed about you was how hardworking you were, desperately trying to prove to everyone that you were here for a reason and that you were serious about this. An attribute that he appreciated greatly.
However, there was also this other side to you that he loved even more. He loved how bubbly and cheerful you always were, even if they didn't have a good day, you always tried to keep the mood up and make everyone happy (again), something that he could relate with.
But it was also your kindness and that youthfulness that made him fall for you.
“What's that?” he asked with a chuckle as you had handed him a drink.
“They call this the 'volcano of flavors'. Honestly, I'm not 100% sure what's in it, but it looks freaking cool and so I thought of you and wanted to know what you think.”
“You value my opinion that much?”
“Are you kidding me? You're the only opinion I can trust when it comes to something to eat or drink. You're the master of that.”
He was flattered. More than that, he loved compliments such as this one. And he wasn't sure whether you were just really good at making someone feel good about themselves, or if you genuinely meant it. Whatever it was, he was just really glad that BigHit had decided to hire you.
Life would be extremely dull for him these days otherwise.
You waited to apply his base so he could try it first, beaming happily when he obviously liked it.
“Yes! Mission successful!”
My god.. he really found his soulmate, huh?
min yoongi
Tumblr media
Sometimes the artists liked to pretend as if the make-up artists were invisible when they did their make-up.
They never hid what they were doing on their phones when you guys were around, because most knew not to say anything.
But you were new and you couldn't keep your mouth shut when you saw him play a mobile game and fail at it, again and again and again.
“Shit, you're bad at this,” you muttered, mostly to yourself.
But he heard.
Yoongi was so perplexed, looking at you from under his eyelashes through the mirror, “Excuse me?”
“I said you're bad at this. Wasn't tongue technology one of your verses in a song? Guess 'finger technology' isn't in your skill book.”
Yoongi wasn't used to this anymore. Someone talking like this, so straight forward and brutally honest, without holding back. He was used to being pampered and people lying to him to make him feel good, people treating him like he was special, so instead of taking offense to it, he actually decided to play this game with you.
“So you want to talk plainly, yes? Alright then,” he straightened his back, looking directly into your eyes when you applied some blush, “How about I show you my finger technology? There's a really quiet room next door we could go into. I’m sure I could convince you how good I actually am.”
“Oh yeah? Sure,” you shrugged, “I'll be nice to show you the ropes and how it’s done these days. My generation has a lot up their sleeves, you know?”
He loved this. Oh, he loved this more than he could say.
“I don't think you'll show me anything. It'll be the other way around. Experience comes with age, you know?”
“You'd wish,” you snorted.
That was probably the moment that Yoongi had found his favorite make-up artist ever. And... fell in love a little. It’s been too long since he’s had a relationship like this and he immediately never wanted to lose it.
“Where's Yoongi and (Y/N)? They should be done by now,” a make-up artist asked into the room at one point.
“Don’t know. They walked out fifteen minutes ago and haven’t come back. Maybe gone to eat something.”
“Hm, must be.”
Yeah.. must be.
jung hoseok
Tumblr media
It was the annual BigHit party that every staff member and artist was invited to.
It was spread out over every floor, the party was in full motion, with people playing games on some floors and just talking on others.
And then there were those few on the rooftop, that including you and Hoseok as you were sitting on a bench next to each other, watching the stars with the music faintly being audible.
Suddenly, you could feel his hand on yours, you whispering, “Not here.”
“Why? Let them see.”
This wasn’t the first time the discussion had come up and you were sure it wouldn’t be the last.
However, your answer hadn’t changed since the last time you talked about this.
“And then what? They will make up rumors, how I only got to the point where I am because I'm sleeping with you.”
Hoseok sighed heavily and turned his body to really look at you, “Or maybe they will be happy for us. Have you ever considered that?”
“I can't. Not when there is so much on the line for me and so little for you,” you sighed just like he had, “I know you mean well, Hoseok, but right now, at this time, I can't risk my career, not even for you. You know how much you mean to me and I know how much I mean to you, it is not something I take lightly. So just.. leave it like it is for now. Because I don’t want to lose what we have. Career and relationship wise.”
He loved you. Not just a little, but very much.
And he wanted to tell the world just that.
But that was selfish, especially when what you had said was true. It would probably cost you your career, but it would cost him absolutely nothing but – at worst – a scolding.
If he really loved you as much as he thought and you said, then he'd accept that and do what you asked.
"I promise you, my love.. one day,” you smiled at him.
“I’ll hold you to that,” he smiled back.
kim namjoon
Tumblr media
Out of all the members, Namjoon would have been the last person you had suspected to do this. Not that you had suspected any of them to pull a stunt like this, but him? The most responsible one out of all of them?
No way.
“I.. don't know what to say,” you were holding the strap of your bag tightly, staring at him with wide eyes as he was standing in front of you with a bouquet of flowers after just having come clean about his feelings for you.
Feelings, that he had developed over the last couple of months and the many deep and heartfelt conversations that you two have had. After he had opened up to you and you to him, he started to realize that this wasn't merely a friendship anymore. He wanted.. more.
“You don't have to say anything if you don't feel the same.”
“No, that's not what this is about. I just don't know.. how you think this is going to work out. I'm your make-up artist and probably not even that yet. I'm just someone who helps out when one of the others is busy. I'm a nobody that worked really hard for this position, even if it sucks sometimes. If we were to date and they'd find out.. I'd be fired immediately.”
Namjoon nodded, immediately understanding your concerns, placing the flowers on a table nearby and then approaching you slowly, gently taking your hands into his and looking at them, “I've spent the last few years hiding my relationships and my feelings for people. I've become quite good at it and so has everyone else in this company. It is.. one of the skills that you’ll have to develop once you start working in this industry,” he finally looked up into your eyes, “I wish it weren’t like that, but that’s the truth.”
“I’m scared, Namjoon.”
“You don’t have to decide right now. I just wanted to be honest with you about my feelings,” he hesitated for a second, but then he settled for a small kiss on your cheek, “Think on what I said. I will wait for you.”
He didn’t pressure you that night. He gave you the choice on what would happen next. And you couldn’t thank him more for that.
park jimin
Tumblr media
This was extremely unprofessional in any situation, with you working for him and not just that, but having only started working for him four months ago. You were the rookie that still had to prove herself. And to top it all off, you were seriously doing this on concert day.
“Don't!” you stopped him when he wanted to kiss you, “I just applied your make-up, don't ruin it.”
Jimin chuckled darkly, “You'll need to re-apply it anyways,” he turned you around, pushing you against the stall in the bathroom, “I don’t intend to go slow.”
You wished you could resist him, but you simply couldn't.
This attraction between you two had started out the moment you walked into the room and introduced yourself as the new make-up artist and had only grown within the last few months.
Now, it had come to the point where you couldn't keep your hands off of each other anymore, not even on concert day.
And so here you were, having sex in a bathroom stall with Jimin for ten minutes, because he had to go up on stage soon and if you turned up any later, people would be angry at both of you.
“Where the hell were you two?!” one of the make-up artists asked, inspecting Jimin's make-up and being.. rather impressed.
“He needed some.. touch-ups. I finished it real quick, so that you wouldn’t have to.”
“Hm.. not bad, rookie. You were good.”
And as she walked away, Jimin whispered into your ear, “So fucking good, baby girl.”
And you got chills all over your body.
kim taehyung
Tumblr media
You looked absolutely gorgeous.
That was the first thing that he noticed when you walked into the room, bowing to every single person in the room, because you were the youngest and wanted to be respectful.
Taehyung beamed happily when it was his time, “It's nice to see you.”
“It's nice to see you too. Did you have a good weekend?” you smiled as brightly as he did, taking off your sunglasses and brushing your hair out of your face to get ready for applying his base make-up, so that the older and more experienced artists could do wonders to his eyes.
“I did. Very relaxing.”
“Ah, that's good to hear that you actually didn't work for once,” you chuckled.
Taehyung watched you silently as you gathered everything that you needed, but that smile never faltered. He just let out a dreamy sigh, like a teenager that was in love.
Which was exactly the case, minus the teenager part. He had fallen hopelessly in love with you, or maybe just with the idea of you. He made up scenarios in his head of what the future might look like and even more of ways of telling you what he felt for you.
But as of right now, they were only imaginary scenarios.
“Okay, here we go,” but even as you continued applying the base, he never looked anywhere other than your eyes, until you eventually asked, “Do I have something on my face? Is it.. mascara?”
“No, just.. I really like your eyes.”
“Oh..- well, uhm. Thank you,” you could feel your cheeks heat up and quickly turned around so he wouldn't see the effects his words had on you.
As the newest and youngest member, you had to prove yourself to everyone. That you weren't just here to get with one of them. Them letting you do Taehyung's make-up, the one that everyone yearned for, meant they trusted you a lot. You didn't want to break their trust.
However, you've noticed that this had become harder and harder in the last few weeks. He'd make you compliments, he'd stare at you and what you thought was simple niceness at first, had made you wonder nowadays, if maybe, he had something else in mind.
“You're welcome,” he smiled once again when you turned back around to look at him.
Maybe one day, when your position would be more secure, then he could figure out how to make this work. Until then, he’d just keep showering you with compliments to see your beautiful smile that brightened his day.
jeon jeongguk
Tumblr media
Normally, Bangtan would get their make-up done at the BigHit building if they had a mere video conference, but one of the staff members had shown symptoms of the virus and now no one was allowed into the building for the next week, until everything and everyone was cleared.
But because Bangtan hadn’t been to BigHit in a while and they had a video conference scheduled today, some of the make-up artists had to go to their dorm to do their make-up there, you being one of them.
And as the youngest, you were assigned to do Jeongguk's make-up.
In his room.
Alone.
While the door was closed.
And he could feel how nervous you were.
“It's this room, isn't it?” he asked with a cocky smile, “Gives you flashbacks.”
“Don't,” you just continued applying his base with a slightly trembling hand.
“What furniture is it that makes you most nervous? The bed? The chair? The rug?”
“I said stop.”
Jeongguk let out a chuckle and leaned back when you walked over to his desk to grab something else, cocking his head to the side, his eyes on your butt.
“I bet it's the rug. It's still ripped by the way. And you haven't paid me back for it.”
“I tried giving you money, you didn't want it, what else do you want me to do?”
He was quiet for a moment and when you could feel his arms around you from behind and his mouth right next to your ear, he whispered, “I want you to stop lying to yourself and admit that you loved it as much as I did.”
You had started out as colleagues, then friends, then you blurted out that you liked him and the next thing you remembered was being in his bed. That had continued on for weeks, with you two not really dating, but not being nothing either. Until you had called it quits because you just couldn't focus on your work anymore whenever he was around.
Not that it was any easier now.. actually just harder. But you tried telling yourself that it was better this way.
“I still like you. A lot,” he whispered when you hadn't answered him, “And that won't suddenly go away. And I know you feel the same way.”
You turned around in his arms, his eyes had become a little sadder, hoping you'd say what he wanted you to say.
But just as you tried to, a knock on your door from one of the other make-up artists interrupted you, both of you jumping away from each other.
One day, you'd talk to him about this. But today was clearly not the day, even if he wished it were.

Captain Rogers looks awkward in your living space - broad, large, and imposing where he sits on the couch. He sits stiffly, feeling out of place in your personal space, your private space, observing the tiny glimpses of who you are. He doesn’t feel he deserves it, doesn’t deserve the chance you’ve, to his own shock, given him.
Your rigid posture, hands behind your back, imply you’re expecting orders. And despite his attitudes toward you, you’d obey without question.
It makes his mouth twitch sadly, and he shakes his head. The gesture draws your eyebrows downward. Confusion, perplexion - he can’t blame you. He’d stood outside your door for thirty minutes and he’s still unsure of what he’s actually going to say.
How about, I’m sorry?
He knows you’re losing your already waning patience with him the longer he remains silent. Swallowing heavily, he forces himself to meet your eyes.
“I… I owe you some apologies.”
You almost succeed in masking the sheer shock your expression morphs into, but you aren’t quick enough. He huffs through his nose, a bit amused by you.
“I know it isn’t what you were expecting to hear but… I’d been doing some thinking - a lot of thinking, actually - and the way I’ve been treating you is far from fair. Or right. I haven’t been very accommodating to you since you first interviewed here, and for that, I’m sorry.”
It’s deathly silent between the two of you, and you’ve managed to school your features back into that quiet stoicism that kind of unnerves him. He can’t tell what you’re thinking, and each second you don’t speak drags by like a lifetime.
“What game are you playing, Captain?” you finally retort, terse and clipped. Even from across the room he can see the suspicion in your eyes, the mistrust. He hates that he’d been the one to put it there.
He spreads his hands, a gesture of innocence. “No games, I promise. I know I haven’t given you any reasons to trust me but, I sincerely hope you believe my sincerest apology. My treatment of you...it wasn’t intended to be personal…”
“It sure as hell felt personal,” you snap, and Captain Rogers winces, nodding in understanding. “I mean, what’s your angle here, Captain?”
The title is said scathingly, mockingly, a sneer curling your features. A look that’s so familiar when it’s directed at him it makes his stomach sink, makes it feel like it’s full of rocks. The guilt and disgust with himself puts a wrinkle between his eyebrows.
“What are you getting out of this? There’s no way you’ve just happened to have a change of heart.”
“And if I have?” he questions sincerely.
“Then I don’t believe you,” is your immediate reply. Muscles in your jaw jumping, you continue, “From the get-go you have been nothing but a self-righteous asshole to me, ridiculing me in front of the other agents, second-guessing me, making me feel like I’d chosen the wrong career. You make me feel small, Captain Rogers, and like I don’t belong here. That being said, if your opinion of me actually mattered as much as you think it does, I would have put my notice in months ago.”
He knows the feeling of not being taken seriously, knows the pressure of being underestimated, ridiculed, taunted, pushed until he thinks he’s going to break. The fact he’s pushed you to this point puts nausea in his stomach.
You, meanwhile, can see every emotion as it plays out across his face. The furrow in his brow has grown more prominent, his frown deeper, fingers tightening into fists where they rest on his thighs. He squeezes his eyes shut and for a moment, he looks like he’s going to be sick. A small part of you realizes he’s actually disgusted in learning how he’s made you feel, but the angrier, less rational side of you is quickly stomping it back down.
He doesn’t deserve your forgiveness - not yet. Too many months had been spent questioning yourself, your training, your confidence. Your resentment of him for making you feel such a way is nearly palpable.
“You’ll understand why I’m having trouble believing a single word you’ve said to me.” Not a question, but a confident statement, and he can only nod. He’s done a lot of that in the time he’s been here, but he deserves every biting remark and question of motive you throw at him.
“So...where do we go from here?”
A valid question, but you aren’t sure of the answer, not right away. A few more moments’ pause and then:
“Give me time. Treat me like a human being, like an agent. Like I belong here because you and I know both know that I do. Start with that, and we’ll see. I can promise to remain professional - but only that.”
“I understand,” he says, and he stands because he’s getting the feeling he’s beginning to overstay his very reluctant welcome. “I know you don’t trust me, but I hope I can earn it back. You are a good agent, Y/N, truly. One of the best I’ve seen.”
He departs after your sharp inhale, a compliment that staggers you, honest-to-god nearly brings you to tears. Because even though he’s been a royal pain in your ass, it’s all you’ve ever wanted to hear him say.
You’re sure that makes you some kind of mental case, but you can’t find it in you to care. Once the door closes, your knees buckle, dropping you into the armchair. A few tears escape your eyes, emotions in overdrive - first the incident with Bucky, and now this? Your head is spinning, a pulse behind your eyes that warns of an oncoming migraine.
You groan, dig your fingers into your eyes because while dealing with the typhoon that is Captain Rogers, you’d forgotten about Bucky. You’d kissed him, or he’d kissed you - you aren’t really sure how it happened, only that it did.
And it shouldn’t have.
As comfortable as you feel around Bucky, as addictive as his presence is, this can only spell trouble - for you and for him. For one, he’s a higher rank, a commanding officer right underneath Captain Rogers. If anything were to happen between you, it’d be so deeply frowned upon you’d probably have to find another job.
Slamming your fist into the couch feels counterproductive and not nearly as satisfying as punching a wall, but you doubt Director Hill would appreciate having to repair it. So you settle for a hot shower and some Bailey’s in a cup of coffee, a book in bed once you’ve rubbed your skin raw. You have a mission debrief later this afternoon, your second mission, and you can’t help the swell of insecurity - will you fuck this one up like you almost did the last one?
Cursing under your breath at the endless bout of tug-of-war in your head, you abandon the book and rifle through your files for the mission summary. You’re determined to do this next one right.
A part of you, a tiny, miniscule part that speaks up against the crowd, wants to do this to prove Captain Rogers right - that you are a good agent, and that hiring you had been a benefit to SHIELD. You’re determined not to let your blunder on your first mission become your legacy. It bothers you that you feel this way - after all, you’d asserted to the Captain himself that you didn’t give a shit what he thought of you.
It clouds your concentration - your insistence that the Captain’s opinion doesn’t matter, yet your determination to earn your place amongst the ranks. Growling under your breath, you force yourself to memorize the mission notes front and backwards, shove the Captain and his opinions to the back of your head.
You take the stairs down to the conference room, give yourself a little more time to pour over the debrief. When you get there, you’re surprised to see Sam Wilson amongst the six other agents chosen for this mission.
“Agent L/N,” Hill greets, standing at the forefront of the room in front of a projector screen. She waits for you to take your seat before launching into the mission.
A drug kingpin who grew a little too curious about sense-enhancing substances. A bit too close to HYDRA territory, and it’s a simple extraction job. In and out, cease and desist.
Sam’s sent for supervision, to act as the senior agent in case things go awry. To your delight, they don’t. In fact, things go very, very well. Instead of being ordered to stay behind, Sam assigns you the lead position, lets you map out the plan to the other agents. A few heated glares, others envious of the responsibility you’re given, but overall, your plan comes to fruition neatly and quietly. Minimal hand-to-hand, zero injuries or deaths on either side, and you’ve successfully pilfered the scientific documents for the new substances.
You’re congratulated by Sam back on the jet, a bright grin against his dark skin. You like Sam, respect him and appreciate that he hasn’t seemed to judge you for the last time you worked together. In fact, he seems to recognize completely your desire for redemption and he sings your praises on the ride back to the tower, to your embarrassment. Some of the other agents warm up to it and join in, while others roll their eyes and turn away.
It brings heat to your cheeks as he rests a hand on your shoulder and says, lowly so as not to be too overheard, “I can see why Barnes likes you so much.”
A cold panic washes over you, but you just manage to keep it off your face. “What are you talking about?”
A simple disbelieving glance from Sam, a nervous shuffle on your end, and it tells him everything. He smiles knowingly.
“I won’t tease you about it, but you got our resident Iceman all tied up in knots.”
He chortles heartily while your face flames, and you have to look away. Though you feel the twitch of a smile trying to get through. It shouldn’t make you feel as giddy as it does, considering just that morning you’d run away from him.
But knowing you make him feel the same way he does you puts a lightness in your chest, and you resolve to talk to him, apologize for running. The flutters in your stomach intensify as the jet nears the tower, and if Sam picks up on your sudden urgency, he doesn’t say anything.

royal pain in the ass - chapter 1
Chapter 1: Era of the Wilds Queen Zelda rebuilds her palace.
[first] - [next] read it on ao3!
  △ ▲△
Three months ago, Link started this time travelling journey. Before he left through that portal, with eight heroes waiting behind him expectantly, he held onto Zelda’s hand and promised he’d tell her everything.
They were a good bunch, by Zelda’s judgement. She was relieved knowing that the Hero of Twilight was looking out for her former knight. And the Hero of Time and Hero of Warriors seemed to have good heads on their shoulders, so she certainly shouldn’t be worried there. And Link was even friendly with the others, like the Hero of Hyrule and the Hero of Winds! She was glad there were at least some people there to indulge him, once in a while.
One of their visits landed on a beautiful day, right on the edge of summer. As a bit of a treat, Zelda let the Hero of the Four Sword and Hero of Legend loose on what remains of her library. She idly watched as her Link—Wild, the others called him—disappeared into Castle Town with Wind in tow, both of them giggling.
“We should probably follow them,” Twilight grimaced.
Zelda startled, caught off guard by Twilight’s suggestion. They were sitting against the wall below the castle’s observation room, comparing and contrasting their respective monarchies when he’d abruptly changed the topic.
“What for?” she questioned. “There’s not much trouble for them to get into. Let them have their fun.”
He sighed. “Wild’s idea of fun usually involves explosives.”
She rolled her eyes. “You’re exaggerating. He can be very responsible.”
“You were there when he launched himself halfway across Hyrule, right?”
Zelda paused for a moment, glancing back to the palace gates Wild had disappeared past. Their last visit, he had wanted to show off to Hyrule just how far he could launch himself with his bombs, and, somehow, he’d made it all the way to Hateno.
“Perhaps I’m a bit lenient with him,” she relented. “I suppose I just like seeing him happy.”
Twilight said nothing, but he arched an eyebrow at her. Something about his scrutiny made her heart drop, and for a split second, she wondered how much he knew about her and Wild’s shared past. What happened to him, how she couldn't save him before-
“I mean, he deserves as much, doesn’t he?” she hastily explained. “He’s got a second chance, now.”

Queen Zelda Sarya Hyrule awakens for the day, leaning her hands on the balcony as she looks over her kingdom’s sunrise. It’s a bright, fresh morning, the smell of last night’s rain still in the air. This morning marks three months, officially, since Link's last visit.
Zelda sighs. She supposes she ought to be used to this. She’s got a hundred years’ worth of experience waiting for Link, she can survive however long it takes him to finish this mission. She could spend her time worrying over her friend’s safety, but really, eight other heroes from eras past? He couldn’t be in safer hands.
Its only a shame they had to halt their weapons training, for the time being. Zelda’s getting tired of sparring with dummies.
She steps away from the balcony, stretching her arms out. She’s been using the observation room as her temporary quarters. And it’s not that she wouldn’t rather stay in her old room, if it weren’t for the broken bridge and collapsed roof, it’s just…
Well, Link always referred to his life as a new beginning. Maybe this can be one for her, too.
First thing to do, get dressed. Yesterday was laundry day, so her clothes are nice and clean.
Second, get some breakfast. What she wouldn’t do for some coffee-
Splash!!
“Oh shit!”
“No! The pallets!”
Upon further analysis, it appears Zelda won’t have any time to get dressed before her day begins.
She shows up to the moat wearing an old, plain shirt and shorts, her pajamas since she’s woken up. Her hair is messy and tangled, and she’s still having trouble keeping her eyes open. But when Bolson and Karson notice Zelda, the latter bows to her as though she were the picture of beauty.
She has to resist rolling her eyes. What would her father think of this?
“What’s the issue?” she asks them as Karson rises. “I heard something about palettes?”
“Ah, well-” Karson stammers. “You see, your majesty-”
“Our horses,” Bolson explains, mercifully cutting Karson off. “They were carting pallets of material for our work today, when something spooked ‘em. Knocked the pallets into the water, ‘n Karson and me were trying to figure out how to fish ‘em up.”
Zelda raises an eyebrow, glancing at each side of the bridge. Aside from the rushing water and the slight breeze, all is still.
“What could have possibly scared your horses? There’s nothing up here, and-” She peeks down at the river. “The Zora aren’t supposed to arrive for a few more hours.”
Karson speaks. “I’m sorry, your majesty, I don’t know-”
She holds up a hand. “I’m not blaming you, Karson. I’m simply confused.” She sighs. “Don’t worry about your supplies. Do whatever else you can for now. When Prince Sidon and his guard report to the palace, I’m sure I can convince some of them to scavenge your belongings.”
“Thank you, Queen Zelda,” Bolson responds before Karson can make a fool of himself again. “Hudson went after the horses. Karson, we should see if he needs any help.”
Zelda watches as the two of them leave. Link had personally attested to the quality of work Bolson Construction could do, and truth be told, she’d hired them on his recommendation alone —though the fact that one of their members had built an entire town by hand had been particularly alluring. Her father would have thrown a fit at Bolson’s “manners”, or lack thereof, but that very trait was the reason she enjoyed working with him so much. He understood that she was in the same boat as the rest of them.
But that story about the horses had her worried. On such a calm morning, when most of the kingdom had yet to stir, she couldn’t help but fear that whatever had spooked them so bad had been malicious.
She looks back over the bridge, trying to peer down into the dark water. It wasn’t so long ago that the castle had been teeming with monsters, after all. Sure, they aren’t quiet, but is it possible some of them were missed?
Well, whatever it is, it could at least wait until she’s dressed.
  △ ▲△
“I’m worried about excavating the Great Hall.”
Zelda is enjoying her breakfast (buttered bread, Hylia, how she misses Link’s cooking), when Yunobo approaches her. He, along with several other young Gorons, volunteered to help clear the debris from Hyrule Castle and its adjoining town.
At first, Zelda had been a bit concerned about having not only Vah Rudania’s new pilot, but Daruk’s direct descendant working so closely with her. Daruk had been a dear friend of hers, after all, and she wasn’t sure she could bear having a reminder of him walking around her home.
But right away it had become apparent that Yunobo is nothing like his grandfather. He’s innocent where Daruk had been optimistic, hesitant where Daruk had been a leader. It was easy enough for Zelda to pretend that there was no relation at all.
Wordlessly, she motions for Yunobo to sit beside her, which he does.
“Link got your slate to you, correct?” she asks, pulling out her own.
Zelda had been quite shocked when Purah had presented her with a brand new slate, a replacement for the one she’d given to Link. Apparently one hundred years of research and a now-peaceful world meant technological advancements could happen fast. And with the correct payment, she was willing to make a few more for the rest of the new Champions.
Yunobo nods, shyly taking his slate out. His is much larger than the ones provided to the rest of the Champions, on account of his larger hands.
“Perfect.” Zelda pulls up a file, a diagram of the castle’s interior, and taps their slates together. “Did that transfer work? You should have a copy of the castle’s blueprints now.”
“Oh wow!” Yunobo holds his slate to his face, marvelling at his screen. “This is amazing, your majesty!”
Zelda can’t help but smile along with him. “I thought the same thing when I first started playing with the first one,” she admits. “You can use this to show me what’s troubling you.”
“Right.” He points to the main entryway to the Great Hall. “See, we’re focusing on this part here, because it’s easier for us Gorons to move around. But I’ve been noticing a lot of rocks in the rubble from further up the castle.” He sighs. “It’s unstable. If we keep going as we are now there’s going to be a hole in the rock right up to the Sanctum.”
Zelda frowns, eyes fixed on the blueprints. So far, they haven’t had any issues like this. Most of the ruins have been from the stone lining the hallways, not the mountain itself. And, despite being a researcher, she’s not exactly an engineer. Can something like this even be fixed?
“Well, first of all, we’re stopping construction on that area immediately,” she instructs. “Make sure the rest of the Gorons know that. Then, go to Bolson with your concerns. His work has been temporarily delayed, so I’m sure he’ll be happy to help you figure out this problem.” She tucks her slate at her side. “Does that work for you?”
“Thank you!” Yunobo beams, and isn’t that a sight? Link told her he used to be very anxious a while ago. “I’ll get on that right away, your majesty.”
What she wants to say is ‘No need for that. Call me Zelda.’ But something about it gets caught in her throat.
“If there are any other issues, let me know,” Queen Zelda says.
  △ ▲△
There have been talks, lately, of turning Castle Town into a trading hub for the rest of Hyrule, and Zelda thought it was a wonderful idea. It was, after all, how the capital had been established many years ago, and returning to its roots would be a good way to build it back up again. She’s already gotten the word from several villages that they’d be willing to send merchants. The only thing left to do is to strike up a deal with the Gerudo.
Lady Riju is wise beyond her years, and Zelda can’t help but see herself in the girl. Forced into a role of importance at such a young age, carrying the burdens of loss and leadership on her shoulders…
“Using Castle Town as an in-between for your trades with the Gorons would make for shorter journeys in the long run.” Zelda and Riju are seated at a table in the dining hall, which the Queen has converted into an office of sorts. Both are flanked by several guards, yet their attention is focused on the slates in their hands, displaying a map of the kingdom.
“We would get our gemstones faster,” Riju reasons.
“Exactly,” Zelda says. “Not to mention, this would also open up opportunities for you with Zora’s Domain. I’m not sure whether you would appreciate their fish, but one of their other major exports is Luminous Stones.”
Hearing this, Riju raises her eyebrows. “Now that is interesting.”
The Gerudo are lucky to have Riju, Zelda decides. She knows there’s only one jeweler in Gerudo Town—aside from a few hobbyists—and yet, the chieftain was clearly interested on her behalf. Now that the Calamity is gone, the Gerudo may as well expand their horizons a bit.
Urbosa would be proud.
Zelda immediately shakes that thought off like a dog out of the water. “Of course, you’ll have to work the details out with the Zora themselves, I’m just offering the venue. But Prince Sidon is supposed to come by later today.”
Riju hums to herself. “Buliara,” she says, turning to the guard by her side. “Make sure we get a meeting with him before either of us leave.”
“Yes, Lady Riju.”
With that assurance, Riju faces Zelda once again, standing. “Well, Queen Zelda, it looks like we have a deal, then.” She offers Zelda a hand.
“Thank you, Lady Riju.” Zelda takes her hand, and the two shake. And that’s where Zelda assumed it would end.
“Actually,” Riju clears her throat, and suddenly it isn’t Riju, Chieftain of the Gerudo standing in front of her. It’s Riju, the thirteen year-old child, eyes wide and pleading, awkwardly holding onto one of her arms. “I was wondering, if you’re not doing anything for a while…”
Zelda winces, and in that instant she sees Riju avert her gaze. “Oh, Riju,” she says. “I’d love to, but…”
Riju holds up her hand. “It’s no matter, your highness,” she claims, displaying strength as if Zelda didn’t just see her put a wall up. “I should discuss the changes to our trade routes with the Gorons, anyway.”
Some other time, Zelda promises herself. She’ll make time for Riju soon. But as Riju beckons her guards and leaves, she can’t find it within herself to say it out loud.
  △ ▲△
Zelda really thought she could do it this time.
Ever since she’d gone through the process of selecting new Champions, new pilots for the Divine Beasts, Zelda has spent quite a bit of time with them. Training, maintenance, everything to help them move along as smoothly as possible. And it’s been fine with all of them!
Well, with the exception of one.
Riju and Yunobo are both generations removed from their ancestors, and if Zelda doesn’t remind herself, she can almost pretend there’s no connection at all. And Teba isn’t even related to any of the former champions. But Sidon…
Zelda storms into the makeshift infirmary, a large tent just outside the castle, to find Sidon having a wound wrapped by a nurse. Noticing her arrival, the nurse offers a bow before sliding out of the tent past the Queen.
“Prince Sidon,” she fights to keep her tone diplomatic. “Please tell me Captain Bazz lied to me.”
Sidon is so Mipha.
“Queen Zelda-”
“Stop,” she commands, and some part of her mind recognizes it as one her father took often. “You-” She points a finger at him. “-the crown prince of the Zora, a race known for their weakness to electricity, decided to take on a Lynel, of all things. Is that correct?”
Somehow, in all her five-foot four-inches worth of glory, Zelda has successfully gotten Prince Sidon, a fish towering over ten feet, to cower under her glare.
“Yes, Queen Zelda.”
Of course, Mipha wouldn’t have been nearly as brash as her brother. She knew her limits, knew the risks of facing a Lynel head on, especially a Silver one. She knew she wasn’t the one to take on that task.
Sidon, for some reason, didn’t.
“Okay,” Zelda sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose. “Why?”
“Why?” Sidon echoes back at her. He finally meets her eyes, matching her own harsh gaze. “Your highness, that Lynel was too close to Helmhead Bridge! If I hadn’t stopped it, it could have gone on a rampage throughout Castle Town!”
But he had her passion, that’s for sure. Where Mipha had been drawn to healing the injured, Sidon found himself drawn to battle away every danger that could befall the innocent. In that sense, the two of them were the same.
Sidon, like his sister, is a protector.
“You were under orders to clear out the Military Training Grounds! That’s it!” Zelda counters. “That Lynel was not your responsibility!”
“Hyrule is my responsibility! You made it my responsibility when you gave me Vah Ruta!”
Sidon is Mipha in every way that Mipha wasn’t. And how dare he come to her castle, acting the brasher, braver Mipha?
How dare he, Mipha’s most precious brother, risk himself for her?
“I’ve already led one set of Champions to their deaths, Sidon!” Zelda shouts, tears forming at the corners of her eyes. “I’m not going to let you die as well!”
Sidon reels back, looking at Zelda with wide eyes.
Zelda covers her mouth, and her spine goes rigid, like ice. She turns on her heel, making a beeline out of the tent.
“Your highness!” Sidon calls after her. “Zelda! Wait!”
But Zelda ignores him. She pushes the flap out of the way, and once she’s finally outside the tent, she runs.
  △ ▲△
Of course it’s her old room. Zelda hadn’t even realized it was her destination until she arrived there, eyes blurry with tears. She slams her door shut behind her and sinks to the floor, finally letting herself cry. Sobs rake through her body, and she’s reminded of the times a hundred years ago, when she would lock herself in this same room after yet another day of failing to unlock her powers.
It’s been a century since then, and she’s right back where she started.
The Champions, all of them, deserve this future much more than Zelda does. She failed them all.
She’s not sure how long she sits there, curled in on herself, crying like a toddler throwing a tantrum. Seriously, what’s wrong with her?
Suddenly, there’s the sound of wings flapping from the literal hole in the room, rattling Zelda out of her sorrow enough to look up.
It’s Teba, because of course it is. Who else would fly all the way up here? His expression is difficult to read, but he’s focused on her.
“There you are,” he says, landing on the ruins of her wall. He hops down. “You scared Sidon, back there.”
Zelda looks back to the floor, head turned away from Teba. Her face and chest burn with shame.
“I’m sorry,” she mumbles.
There’s warmth next to her, Teba sitting by her side. “Now, why are you saying that?” He drapes one of his wings over her shoulders.
It’s disgustingly casual, certainly not the image a distinguished queen should be projecting. But Teba is concerned for her, and Zelda can’t remember the last time she let someone do that. Even Link, her closest friend, she’s kept at a distance. He’s been struggling so much, how was she supposed to burden him with her own issues?
“I keep ruining everything,” she admits, choking back a sob. “His sister is gone because of me. I let Hyrule fall.”
“Zelda-” and how great it is to hear her name. Not your majesty, your highness, the great and wonderful queen who could do no wrong. Just Zelda, the person. “It’s not your fault. You couldn’t have known what would happen.”
If only it were that easy.
“I should have,” she retorts. “How stupid were we to believe that pig would fall for the same trick twice?”
“You’re a kid.”
Zelda can’t help but laugh at that, though it isn’t particularly funny. Some of her loose hairs fly away from her face as she does so.
Teba, unamused, sighs. “What are you doing here?”
She rolls her eyes. “I came to my room to cry, obviously.”
“No, I mean-” Teba tries again. “Why are you at the castle?”
“To rebuild Hyrule,” Zelda answers automatically. “To lead my people.”
“Who told you to do that?”
Zelda blinks, and she realizes she doesn’t have an answer for that. Rarely does she ever find herself in this situation.
“Well, no one, but…” she struggles. “It’s what my father would want.”
Teba points at her. “There’s your issue,” he says. “You’re putting yourself in this box, trying to be the person you think everyone wants you to be. And in the process, you’re ignoring yourself.”
“Teba-”
“The reconstruction effort doesn’t necessarily need you, Zelda,” he tells her. “We’re glad to have you, but if you need to go off somewhere on your own, we’d get along just fine.”
Zelda scoffs. “Where would I even go?”
“I don’t know.” Teba shrugs. “Maybe you could check out what Link’s been up to?”
  △ ▲△
Teba’s suggestion rings in Zelda’s mind. She tries to sleep, truly, she does. But she ends up kicking her way out of her bedroll in frustration.
So, just as her day began, Zelda finds herself standing on her balcony, staring out at Hyrule. The night is cloudless, the vast sky full of twinkling stars. Hyrule Field is still, save for the breeze that passes through it. It catches her hair, long and golden, bringing it to sway.
Maybe she should cut it.
Hyrule is large. She’s heard from Link of his journey and saw much of it herself. Their initial tour had been half a year ago, when the Calamity had finally been defeated. Sadly, they’d been limited to the main settlements, focusing on making peace with their leaders and spreading the news that, yes, it was over. They hadn’t had much time to divert from the path, to see the little wonders Link spoke so fondly of.
Zelda knows Link would want to show her these wonders himself, but perhaps she could find some of her own to show him? Do something nice for him, for once.
If he ever comes back, that is.
Once upon a time, Zelda told the Hero of Twilight that she was happy for Link, happy for his second chance. Oh, what she wouldn’t give for a second chance of her own.
Behind her, she hears it. The sound of reality tearing, ripping at its seams. It’s a sound she’s heard before, everytime Link and the other heroes dropped in unexpectedly. She turns around, and there it is, the oval portal glowing a soft, golden light.
She leans against her balcony and waits, patiently, for Link. It’s rude of them to show up so late, especially when she’s so underdressed, but she can make an exception for the heroes.
But nothing happens. Instead, Zelda feels a tug in her own chest, an instinctual pull that says ‘Hop in’. And she’s reminded of what Link told her about how the group finds their portals:
They’re drawn to them.
  △ ▲△
When Zelda doesn’t show her face the next morning, they go looking for her. They find the observation room scarce of most of Zelda’s belongings, her bedroll and clothes all missing. The queen herself is also gone, and in her place is a note.
Dear all,
I went to go see Link. Keep up the work without me. I will return sometime soon.
Your friend, Zelda

Imperial Agent Storyline: Drunk History Version
Since people really seemed to like the last one! Y’all’s collective wish is my command. Spoilers for the Imperial Agent storyline, obviously. Enjoy!
- so you start out with your agent on Hutta, a little polluted slimeball of a world that literally everyone but the Hutts canonically hates. there's lore but we're going to ignore it. the important thing is that you're here to con a Hutt, always a dangerous gambit, into working with/for the Empire.
- you sneak into a corner to space facetime your boss, a guy we only ever know as Keeper because Intelligence is weird about names. sneaking into corners to facetime people is a repeating theme throughout the story.
- you are informed that you've already got a cover story set up, and you'll be posing as an infamous pirate called the Red Blade who'll be able to get in close to the Hutt in question, whose name I've forgotten. Nethro or Nefro or something.
- "wait, what about the actual Red Blade," you ask your boss, probably
- "he's halfway across the galaxy, you don't need to worry about him," your boss replies, in a textbook example of what we in the writing business call “foreshadowing”
- (spoiler alert: you need to worry about him)
- but we won't worry about that for now. bada bing bada boom, you stroll on into the Hutt's place. you are immediately confronted by a guy who, shock and horror, actually knows the real Red Blade and knows you ain't him. (one would think that all-seeing Intelligence would have known about him, but nuance.) this is a problem for a number of obvious reasons.
- your options are as follows: bribe him, kill him, or sleep with him. (this is also something of a recurring theme throughout the story.) whatever option you take, he's dealt with. (yes, this is the man eris fucked five minutes into her storyline.)
- (I didn’t want to pay him money, leave me alone.)
- anyway, the mission progresses smoothly. meet the Hutt, do some jobs for the Hutt, betray the Hutt's right hand and stab him in the back right after convincing him you were friends, invade the Hutt's rival's palace, McMurder the Hutt's rival, you know. your average day at the office
- most of the way through, the Hutt's other right hand starts to be suspicious about you. this is Kaliyo Djannis, and she will be Plot Relevant™.
- by which I mean she shortly thereafter walks in on you facetiming your boss and gets hired by Intelligence to help out for gods know what reason. welcome to your first companion
- (or possibly you walk in on her facetiming your boss in your room, I.. don't remember, honestly. something like that.)
- anyway one Hutt is dead the other is working with us bada bing bada boom this is going great and hey remember when I said you needed to worry about that guy you're impersonating this whole time? yeah, about that,
- so the real actual Red Blade comes sailing in to Hutta and Intelligence immediately calls you up like "hey, hate to bother you, but your cover's about to get blown in a big way and we need you to murder the guy whose identity you've stolen before he can expose you.”
- "so, just like that training mission last week. gotcha, boss, no problem."
- murder time™
- congration you done it! go home to Dromund Kaas.
- "You're on Imperial soil now, agent. Welcome home." [nonhuman Agent immediately experiences 27492738957 microaggressions] (this joke isn’t mine, for the record)
- first off, Intelligence HQ has a bomb aesthetic, as does the entire Empire in general
- second off, you do walk in on your boss talking to - by which I mean "being given a speech by" - a Dark Lord, which is less than optimal for a number of reasons, first and foremost that speeches by Dark Lords of the Sith quite often immediately precede someone getting killed
- said Dark Lord is one Darth Jadus, who will proceed to be a thorn in your side for approximately the next three hours of gameplay
- (don't worry, after that three hours you'll get a worse thorn)
- Darth Jadus decides he likes you and declares you "his" agent, which you immediately get the gist is about the worst thing that can happen to an Intelligence agent from the way everyone around you treats you like you've just had a ticking bomb strapped to your back for the rest of this meeting
- you're sent on a handful of missions, including one to the Dark Temple which, you know, Force-deaf people aren't supposed to be in, but Jadus Does Not Care
- Jadus calls you into his office at one point and tells you he's going to do some ritual to bind you to his service or something, it's not really clear, but it's clearly Not Optional and also terrifying in concept
- now, quick sidebar. there are basically two paths to take here: one where you suck up to the Sith and treat them with the utmost care and respect and fear like you're kind of supposed to, and one where you mouth off at every opportunity. Eris is mortally terrified of Sith, so she just kind of.. submitted knowing she was going to die if she didn't.
- my second run, however, was just a "hey how bad can I fuck this up" character because I already knew the story.
- I decided to mouth off to Jadus at every opportunity, including adamantly refusing this ritual.
- "What can he do to me?" I asked the person I was playing with. "I'm the protagonist! It's not like he can kill me!"
- Jadus: *kills me*
- me:
Tumblr media
- (mechanically, anyway; story-wise I'm sure he just. put her on the brink of death. but mechanically speaking he literally actually did kill my toon)
- (this should be a warning for exactly how much this storyline is willing to put its usually-heavily-plot-armored protagonist through.)
- anyway.
-  do some missions, blah blah blah, Sith possession in the Dark Temple, blah blah blah, you know the drill
-  well, turns out Jadus is going on tour with several hundred Imperial civilians, military, and Sith, allegedly all hand chosen, to share his ~vision for the Empire~. that's all well and good, whatever I gue-
- sorry what do you mean his ship exploded
- what do you mean a member of the Dark Council just blew up in orbit
- cue Kill Bill sirens
- Panic! At The Intelligence HQ
- this throws everything into chaos; not only was Jadus more directly involved in Intelligence, but he was a Dark Councilor so now there's a massive power vacuum
- the Sith who ends up filling this power vacuum? Jadus's daughter, Darth Zhorrid.
- remember when I said you'd have a bigger thorn in your side after Jadus?
- so yeah. so Zhorrid is, for lack of a better word, fucking terrifying
- she's sadistic and completely careless of others' lives or wellbeing and oh yeah she also instantly latches onto you even harder than her father did and demands you find his killer
- a lot of your meetings with her aren't really plot-relevant so I'll sum them all up here:
- Zhorrid was horribly abused by Jadus, completely broken. She tells you a story about how she used to sing, and her father hired a tutor, then had her sing at a Kaas City performance until her throat was so damaged she could never sing again. He tore every scrap of joy out of her life, completely failed to teach her what she needed to know to survive the rigors of the Dark Council, and instilled every ounce of hatred, sadism, and complete lack of pity he could in her.
- She kills people for no reason other than a whim, because she was listening to a Sith opera and the aria was "very moving" (an actual literal thing that happens).
- She acts like a complete spoiled brat child. At one point the other Dark Councilors literally beat and torture her, presumably for this reason because she's insufferable and arrogant and way out of her depth, and she cries to you about it
- If you’re like me, your response to all this is basically “cool motive, still murder”
- I have sidetracked  very hard. where was I
- so you spend a while trying to hunt down the people who blew up Jadus's ship. There's a bunch of rebels, you hunt them down, they've got biotech weapons called Eradicators set up to destroy cities on multiple planets, skippity skip to the big reveal
- Jadus is alive, and he organized the whole thing so he'd be able to remake the Empire into the image he wanted. He tortured and enslaved the survivors of the Dominator's destruction
- Jadus gives you a whole speech about how fear is a gift to be shared and "Through victory my chains are broken" but there must be chains to break and blah blah blah holy shit this man is genocidal
- you have three choices: join him for real, pretend to join him so you can sabotage his ship and then kill him (at the cost of hundreds of thousands of Imperial lives), or refuse outright and save those hundreds of thousands of lives but Jadus escapes (and you know he's allegedly likely to return and do even worse damage later).
- (Quick sidebar again, for those who haven’t played it: Eris chose the second option and has nightmares about it for the rest of her life. It's actually extremely haunting in-game - as you're running through Jadus's ship to sabotage it as fast as possible, you can hear the distress calls from various colonies and planets being attacked, the screams of the dying that you doomed. It's horrifying.)
- so yeah there’s really no winning that situation but hey! at least Chapter One’s over. surely in Chapter Two things can’t get worse.
- Chapter Two: Things Get Worse
- there's this guy, Ardun Kothe, an SIS agent. he's a huge threat for some reason I don't remember. you're supposed to infiltrate the SIS to get close to and eventually kill him. not an easy job, but okay, we can do this.
- Intelligence sets up the meeting; months ago they sent the first word to Kothe that there was an Intelligence agent ready to turn and they've been building up from there, sending him a steady stream of information
- enter Hunter, aka the worst bastard in this entire storyline and that is an achievement. He's the one you meet first on Nar Shaddaa.
- you do some missions for the SIS, whatever, it's not important. You finally get to meet the rest of the team - and Ardun Kothe.
- Kothe wants to speak alone, which is p typical tbh. He expresses some doubts, which you assuage as best you can; he gives you your code name: Legate. It's from a form of sabbac, he explains, you'll have to play with him sometime.
- (It is difficult for me to make what happens next funny instead of horrifying, so forgive me if the tone changes a bit here.)
- Everything is going fine.
- "I'm sorry about this, Legate."
- What?
- "Keyword: onomatophobia. Engage Thesh protocols, phase one."
- Everything is not fine.
- You black out and have an extremely rude awakening.
- So it turns out whatever happened with Jadus, the Dark Council decided you were too dangerous (usually for doing your job too fuckin well) and that you needed to be leashed. So not you have mind control programming in your brain, and anyone who has your keyword can take complete and unequivocal control of your body. this is, in a word, not great.
- (This is, as I mentioned, actually extremely horrifying. You have dialogue options and they don’t change what you actually say. You have an opportunity to shoot Kothe and even if you try to select it nothing happens. But we’re not here for the horror take (not today, anyway) so let’s just This Is Fine that and move on)
- Tl;dr you can’t harm Kothe or any members of his team, you’re forced to obey anyone who has your keyword, and this wouldn’t be that much of a problem because we’ll just tell Watcher Two what’s happened and oh wait you can’t tell anyone about your programming either. well, shit.
- You go on to work double agent, like it was planned, with this new, uh. twist
- about a third of the way through the chapter, your mind kind of cracks and you start having hallucinations - seeing things you know can't be real during a holocall, passing out in the middle of your ship and waking up in medbay.
- After that, a new voice lives in your head! Watcher X, someone you either killed or let flee on Nar Shaddaa, has sort of joined the party. Is he an AI in the spinal implant the real Watcher X gave you? is he a figment of your broken mind trying to process its situation? Who knows! Not you! either way, this is not optimal but at least he seems to be being helpful this time
- so anyway we should probably try and figure out how to undo this programming bc Intelligence is being Wholly Unhelpful
- (ASAP, please, especially with how horrible Hunter acts toward you - let’s go with “uncomfortably leery,” which I promise is generous.)
- by the way, your companions still have no idea what’s going on during all this, although they try to be varying levels of supportive (thank you vector I love you bug husband)
- Good news! The Intelligence Archive almost definitely has information on what they did to you and how to fix it. Bad news! You’re definitely not authorized to look that up and crashing the power mainframe to make sure they don’t see you do it sends the security droids after you. whoops.
- Good news! There’s a way to fix you. Bad news! You have to make and inject yourself with a still-kinda-experimental cocktail of chemicals and it may or may not give you permanent brain damage. it’s fine. this is fine.
- also it takes a while to kick in which is Less Than Optimal and by the time it finally does you’ve just been left with a binding order to stay and guard the door on what is, for you, a suicide mission. there’s some incentive to “break your chains” for ya.
- You fight and kill Kothe. Who, shock and awe! is an ex-Jedi! this was in no way painfully obvious by how he kept talking about “sensing” things, I’m sure. definitely not.
- Hunter escapes, because of fuckin course he does. Hunter, who suddenly seems far more in control of everything than he had before. Hunter, who knows far more than he should. Hunter, who ends up leading you to a much, much larger conspiracy.
- End Chapter 2.
- Hate to disappoint, but Chapter 3 is honestly the least interesting to me personally, so this’ll be brief compared to the previous chapters
- You spend a lot of time hunting down this much larger conspiracy, including Hunter specifically. There's a lot of betrayal and secret reveals. (It's not tedious by any stretch of the imagination, but the story beats definitely don't stick in my head as well as the first two chapters, even after two playthroughs.)
- you go to Voss and, in order to get into a Voss-only archive, get married to a person you just met before almost immediately leaving the planet (and your new spouse) behind. this is never mentioned again.
- you get hold of a holorecording from the Star Cabal, the big conspiracy. problem: the holorecording contains a trap for the brain-enhanced Watchers, and now half of Intelligence is in a vegetative state. this is not optimal.
- partially as a result of this, Intelligence basically gets dissolved, which is Not Great because it puts you right under the thumb of yet another asshole Sith lord
- the Watchers are recovering, though, so that’s something. Watcher Two, now Keeper (the old Keeper got promoted), contacts you so you can keep working on this Star Cabal thing.
- you get intentionally captured so the Star Cabal can torture you and you can “break” and give them false information to lead them into a trap. you are immediately afterward expected to get back to work like nothing happened. this is never mentioned again.
- You track the Star Cabal to their base, way out in the Unknown Regions iirc, and infiltrate it during a meeting of the top agents.
- murder time 2: electric boogaloo (well, more like murder time 45, to be honest, but shh it’s fine)
- You fight the Star Cabal guys, chase Hunter through the whole place, and finally corner him.
- (Salt warning ahead on my part for the next story beat, if you can call it that.)
- Hunter, when beaten, reveals what I personally think is the most bullshit stupid reveal in the entire game: he is actually a she, and has been using a stealth field generator (or something similar) to change his/her appearance the entire time. There are multiple interpretations of this - "he's trans" is my least favorite, sorry-not-sorry, because a) it's pretty clear she still considers herself a woman and Hunter is just a convenient persona, and also b) a clearly predatory man is absolutely horrid representation as far as playing into harmful stereotypes about trans people, thanks. Personally, my rather cynical interpretation is that they wanted one more shock value reveal at the end of the storyline and I guess couldn't come up with anything better. It's my least favorite thing in the whole IA storyline.
- anyway, that's not really important. I just needed to be mad about it for a minute. ignore me. moving on
- The important part is this: what you gain from the Star Cabal's base is an item called the Black Codex, an ancient piece of technology with the power to erase all records of a person's existence.
- Unless you are very stubborn about it the Agent’s reaction to this is basically “oh thank fuck I’m freeeeeeeeee” and you fly off into the hyperspace sunset with your crew, giving middle fingers to the Sith whose grip you’re escaping all the way. which, really, who can blame you.
And that’s the Imperial Agent storyline, folks. Roll credits. I’ll probably do the Bounty Hunter storyline next while it’s still fresh in my mind, but I could also do the Sith Warrior storyline probably if y’all’re more interested, vote now on your phones.

Can we get the rest of the ball destroying story?
This is a very long and probably anticlimactic story about how I destroyed an attorney's metaphorical balls by not letting him get away with being a toxic pile of shit. I hope you enjoy.
So, the first thing you need to know is that my old boss (whom I will call M) is a real fucking asshole. 1, he voted for trump; 2, he's a creep; 3, most obnoxiously, he treated his previous lead paralegal like a freaking wife.... or actually worse than a wife really... like an object. like a trophy wife. When the lead paralegal left, he basically treated her like she was divorcing him, as if she was an object of his possession. And he was like "you'll NEVER have it better than you have here, and i'll never let you come back." (Funny story: i am one of 5 paralegals there who put in their 2 week notice during June, and they were so panicked that they called this exact former lead paralegal and asked her to come back. -_-)
Okay so anyway, let's cut the story back to about 2 months ago. I have been M's lead paralegal for about 8 months now since the previous one left, and I'm hating it. I'm actively job hunting because M is becoming toxic to me the same way he was to the last paralegal. I needed references, so I asked another attorney who also worked there to be my reference. We will call him T. So T is my favorite attorney. T is the first person I came out to as having a girlfriend at the firm, and he never once betrayed me. He is everything that M is not. He gives positive feedback like he gives out candy, but he's also honest and real in a way that not a lot of ppl are.
So anyway I secretly ask him to be a reference on my resume, and T is like "sure! but well funnily enough, I'm actually leaving the firm in 2 weeks. I can't ethically recruit people while I'm here, so I'm going to end this conversation here, but.... wink wink, nudge nudge, call me in 2 weeks." So I'm like COOL COOL. And we don't speak of it again.
So 2 weeks pass, I continue job hunting, T leaves the firm. He calls me literally the next day, and he immediately is like "I wanna hire you" and I'm like "okay cool, I wanna be hired." So boom I got a new job. Ethically. (I'm serious though, T is a very ethical guy and he did nothing wrong.) So anyway, T is okay with me waiting until my NYU program in June is over, so my start date is July 1. 1 month from then. T also asks me very politely not to tell M where I'm going because it would sour their "friendship" (a.k.a. the attorney world in utah is a small world and he doesn't want M to get his feelings hurt). And I want to be clear, T did not pressure me at all - he asked for a favor, and I decided to do it for him, because I care about him, that's it. If at any point it became a burden for me, I would have changed my mind, and T would have understood.
So, I wait a week until I'm in New York to tell M i'm leaving him. I come up with a brilliant excuse for why I don't want to tell him where I'm going - "I have a few offers and I don't want to talk about it while I'm still deciding" (which wasn't even really a lie). So I call my boss and I tell him I'm putting in my two weeks. And he treats me like he always treats people - he interrogates me. Except this time, he's shocked and upset, so he SUPER interrogates me. It's super inappropriate questions like "why are you quitting???" and "is it because of money???" and "this is SUCH bad timing" - but it's frustrating because he's an attorney and he knows how to dress up these rude questions with politeness. In a way that if I call him out on it, I'll be the one who looks inappropriate. :( It sucked. But luckily I had spent 3 days researching how to approach this, and.... I gave him nothing. He was desperate for fuel to try to convince me to stay or guilt-trip me into working overtime, and I just didn't give him any because I was prepared, and also.... I'm good at this. My mom says I've been good at this since I was 3-years-old lol.
Anyway so unfortunately during the conversation, he asked the question "Where are you going?" and I immediately gave him my excuse. And I expected that to be done and over with. Idk why I thought it'd be that easy... He immediately started trying to guess where I was going. And at what point, he said "are you going to work for T????" and..... honestly guys... I panicked. I lied. I said, "uh, no." flat out lmao. Like, I was just so shocked that he was asking me in the first place. :( But weirdly, he believed me and that was that (or maybe he filed away the lie for later use as you'll see). I also want to make it clear here that I, at first, wasn't telling M where I was going because T had asked me to... but at this point, with how nosy and inappropriate M was asking, I didn't want to tell M anymore either. It wasn't for T that I was hiding it; it was for me. Like, no M, I don't want you to have any personal details. You're being 150% more of a creep than usual which is impressive considering.
Anyway so I never tell anyone where I'm going except 2 ppl whom I trust on my last day (and yes, one of them betrayed me, which kinda sucks D:). I told T that I had lied to M, and T was like "it's okay, if he finds out, I'll have ur back" and also... I told T I go by Echo instead of my legal name/dead name, so I'm fine with the lie because M will probably never find out anyway. and T was delighted and super supportive of my enby identity. ^_^ It's cute because he never called me by name, but now all of his texts and statements deliberately start out with my name as if to remind me that he supports it lol.
Anyway so flash forward to my new day at the job. It's going great. I love it there. And then I check my phone and I see this fucking text:
M: "I hear you work for T now. I wish you the best, but I specifically remember asking you if that's where you would be working, and you said no."
Like.... what the actual fuck? He never texts me, and also I've been gone from his firm for like a day.. max... have some chill, lmfao. like. At first, I was REALLY upset. Not in a "i feel bad for lying" kind of way. I couldn't care less about that. More in a "i feel like i'm being stalked, one of two close friends betrayed me, and also what the fuck, why are you texting me this??" #yikes. But then that night, I was talking to my dad about it. And I became super amused? Like. What is he going for here? What does he want me to say? What response does he hope that I'll give that will make him feel better? Does he want me to call him crying and begging for forgiveness and for my job back? Like? I genuinely sincerely want to know what the fuck he was expecting me to say. I want to understand what was going through his head lol.
And of course, because I am a passive aggressive bitch, I immediately catch on to the fact that he is Butthurt (shocking, I know). His feelings are hurt. An object of his, his very own lead paralegal, lied to him outright and he didn't see it coming! How dare she! He wants to make me feel hurt like he feels hurt, and he's a lawyer, he knows how to interrogate people and manipulate people and get them to suck his dick, idk. So he should be able to use those skills to make me feel bad for lying. He wants to one-up me. But see, what he didn't realize is that....
1, I don't feel guilty for lying to him... at all... like, it took me a couple hours to realize this, but the only negative emotion it made me feel was discomfort and fear. not guilt. the same way i feel when a strange man asks me for a hug, and i feel like refusing would look "rude." Like, there's nothing guilty about that. So yeah. His goal is to expose my guilt to make himself feel better, but... my guilt doesn't exist, so good luck
2, um, like I said earlier, I've been a passive aggressive bitch since the day I was born, unlike this bitch who had to go to college to learn how to do it, and not only that - I'm better at it than him. lmfao. His pride is gonna take a hit.
so I toy with the idea of ignoring him because I know that will really fuck him up and make him constantly think about it and check his texts to see if I've responded. But then T tells me that it's probably better to not burn a bridge because again.... super small world here.
So anyway lol, my response ends up being pretty simple but painstakingly constructed:
"Thank you! :) It wasn't an option at the time - it was a new development after you and I had already talked. I wish you the best as well."
The "Thank you! :)" to seem like I am utterly oblivious to the hidden accusation and passive aggressiveness. The middle sentence to be like "uh, are you really accusing me of lying right now?" and the last sentence, my favorite, to shut down the conversation forever. Now, if he responds, he already lost. Because there's no way to continue this conversation without exposing the fact that his "I wish you the best" was completely insincere. I've stripped away his ability to respond fake-politely (which is his modus operandi), and I've forced the last word on him.
Also, even better... (and no one has any way of proving this, least of all him, but) that statement (the "it wasn't an option at the time - it was a new development after you and i had already talked") is completely a lie on my part, and he knows it. T offered me the job the Monday after he left. There's no way he doesn't know that. So not only did I show obliviousness and not only did I shut the conversation down, I outright stonecold lied a second time. And there's no way for him to call me out on it. Like what could he even do? Send me a screenshot of my hire date? Send me a screenshot of an email I sent to a coworker? If he tries that, he's already lost again because like ... obviously super immature... it would be so easy to crush him with niceness like "Wow, I can tell this has really bothered you!" hahahhaha. Sadly he's smart enough not to do that, but it must be infuriating to know I'm lying and not be able to accuse me.
As an attorney whose literal job it is to catch & expose people lying, he literally watched me flat out lie to his face. Twice. And I didn't feel bad about it. And there was nothing he could do about it either time. He went to law school for this shit, and he still can't out-passive-aggressive me, the classic bitch.
Anyway so T apparently he showed his wife M's message, and she was like "oh my god what an asshole!!!" which I must admit was extremely validating!! And then he showed his wife my message, and she made a shocked face and said "wow she's good." And I always thought T was kinda just flattering me to be nice when he complimented my use of words in defusing angry clients and conveying info about a sensitive subject... but apparently his wife thinks so too, so I guess he's been more serious than I thought. I feel so.... complimented.... it's weird.... but I"m very happy and squeeing.
It's been like almost 24 hours and M has yet to respond to me, and if he does, he's already lost. I'll eviscerate him.
So like I know this story is probably disappointing and might not seem like I shanked his balls, but ... take my word for it because if u knew what a chaotic insecure pathetic mess he was and how he desperately claws for control by trying to intimidate and upset all of his employees (and pretty much always succeeds), then you'd understand that he's NEVER encountered something like this before. Someone literally just not giving a shit what he thinks about them. And from what I know of him, I promise you that this has certainly fucked him up for a good long while. And that makes me happy :')

Strange Love (Part 1)
Tumblr media
Title: Strange Love
Featuring: Johnny (NCT) x Reader
Rating: Mature. Future updates to include BDSM themes
Summary: Your job is finally recognizing all the hard work you’ve been putting in, and assigns you to a special project that includes travel. The only downside is that you have to team up with your cocky co-worker. In the process you learn about his predilections and what he does to relieve stress in his downtime, and how they might come to benefit you, too.
The copier spluttered and buzzed as it spit out page after page of the same report. Sometimes it jammed and you had to tap it just right for it to start up again, you knew it like clockwork now, not even having to shift your stance or your gaze to do it. You had made friends with the piece of equipment ages ago, this thing was older than some of the new hires in the office.
You had been there for 3 years now, but it felt much longer. You found the job out of college because of its promised upward mobility and company culture, and after a while neither one of those things mattered anymore. You had only had one partial raise and “company culture” really just meant there was cake in the break room once a month.
You didn’t know why you stayed. Actually, you did, but didn’t want to admit it to yourself. You were afraid.
You had always been timid, knowing what you wanted but too anxious to go after it. You could be stubborn and even stand up for yourself, but often you fell by the wayside, worried about making too much of a fuss. You developed a fine-tuned talent for painting on a smile, seeming agreeable, then grumbling under your breath and to your friends over drinks. You would convince yourself things would change, but they never did.
When the copier stopped with its signature grinding halt you snapped out of your reverie, piling the papers in arm to hand them out around the office. Busy-work, per usual.
When you stepped out of the room you immediately looked across the hall to the windowed room of your manager, able to hear his muffled laughter, head tossed back as he slapped his hand on another mans back. Your eyes set into a narrow glare at the other person.
John Suh had only shown up 9 months ago and he was already 2 positions ahead of you, with his fancy degree and family connections. They liked to pretend they didn’t play favorites but it was obvious from the moment he stepped in the door that he had something the rest of you didn’t, connections and his daddy’s money.
Plus, there was just this air of overconfidence he carried that enraged you. Not only did he have an advantage, he liked to act like it was his savvy business sense and charm that got him there.
The most annoying part of all is that no one else felt the way you did.
He was clearly attractive, the only person in the office who didn’t get shit from the boss for growing his hair out or not buttoning up his jacket. Every girl in the office from the 19 year old receptionist to the 67 year old accountant practically swooned when he talked to them. This, of course, made you look like the asshole to your colleagues. They called you distrustful and told you to be a little more open-minded, but you didn’t have patience for nepotism and unearned praise.
If you thought about it too long, the frustration built up and where did that leave you? You went about your business for the afternoon, intent on ignoring his presence like you usually did.
As you neared the manager’s door, he suddenly poked his head out and smiled at you.
“Hey there, can I grab you for a second?”
And then he disappeared inside, through the glass you could see him speak to your nemesis once more. Your stomach dropped, what could he possibly need? You set the stack down on your desk and returned to the office, clearing your throat as you entered since they were chatting and laughing like you didn’t exist.
“There you are, have a seat.” He said as he went to his desk, gesturing to the chairs in front of it. You were surprised when John took the seat next to yours, but chose to pretend he wasn’t there.
“I’ve had this project brewing for a few months now, and whilst going over potential candidates your name came up.”
Project? Your name?
“You’ve been loyal to the company for years, your workflow looks great, and I’ve never heard a fuss out of you. You’re honestly a prime worker for this position.”
“What position would that be, sir?” You asked gently, knowing he had a habit of going on tangents if you let him. Plus, all of this was lip service you’d heard since you started. They were always quick to praise, but never do anything that actually showed that it mattered in a way that helped you. Empty compliments.
“This is our main office, and the system we have here is the best in the business, but unfortunately that’s not the case in some of our smaller offices. They’re falling behind and their technology and practices aren’t getting updated in a timely fashion. Basically, they need help, and that’s where you two come in.”
Two? You peered over at the man next to you from the corner of your eye, and quickly back again.
“I’m not sure I follow. Aren’t these offices spread out all over the country?” You asked.
“Precisely. We’ve opened up a position for trainers, someone who is free to travel and can help these places get set up. You would spend about a week or less in each place, we would make sure you have proper accommodations and a stipend, of course.”
It dawned on you what he meant and you felt a mix of emotions. It was about time someone realized your potential and the hard work you had been putting in, even if you were still confused on how your name got brought up. You didn’t have any problem traveling, there was no relationship or particular thing that kept you tied down in one spot.
“Oh, and the 30% raise.”
You perked up at that, then quickly tried to make yourself appear neutral again.
“That does sound enticing.”
“What do you say? I think you both would be great at it.”
You fully looked over now, and made brief eye contact with the man who offered you an encouraging smile.
“We would be working...together?”
“It’s a two-man, excuse me, two-person job. I can tell you now I think you would make an excellent team.”
You didn’t even know him like that, and everything you did know you weren’t particularly fond of.  You had maybe spoken a handful of words to each other, in passing.  Things like “excuse me” and “here’s that report you needed.” The idea of having to spend so much time around him didn’t sit well with you, but how could you pass up such an opportunity? it was strictly business, it’s not like you had to be best friends.
“Okay, then.” You nodded and forced an uneasy smile.
“Fantastic! I’ll draw up the paperwork tonight and get you on your schedule within the week. In the meantime, I encourage you two to get to know each other.”
You left the office, intent on going straight back to your desk, but your new partner stopped you.
“I don’t think we’ve ever been formally introduced, I’m John, but everyone just calls me Johnny.”
He stuck his hand out and you had to fight the urge to cringe, there was no way in hell you were going to call him that.
You were cordial, shook his hand and told him your name, avoided eye contact. Being this close to him you didn’t realize until now how tall he was.
“You want to grab some lunch with me? My treat, we can hammer out some details.”
“I’m a little busy this aftern-”
“It’ll be fine, the boss insists we form a game plan and I know a spot around the corner.” He cut you off and started to walk away as if you already agreed. You wanted to fight him on it, but that wasn’t the best way to start out a brand new position. You sighed and followed.
The “spot” was basically a sports bar, that was practically dead, save for a few people at the bar watching a baseball game. You sat at a table near the back and wished you could get a beer, but you still had a whole work day ahead of you.
“So it’s like, part trainer, part teacher, part IT. Do you have any experience in IT? I actually started out in computer science before I switched to business, my dad thought it was the best for my career path. I mean, I guess he was right because here I am.”
He was….different, than you thought he would be. You only saw him in the office, turning on his charm and worming his way into things. Here, he was talkative and friendly, and it was throwing you off-guard. The casual humble-brag about his background wasn’t making him anymore likable, though.
“No, I majored in English.”
I swear to God if he says-
“English? Aren’t you already fluent?”
You closed your eyes for a second while his stupid laugh rang in your ears.
“Anyway, I think this is going to be an awesome opportunity for us. I mean, how lucky are we to get picked for this?”
“I wouldn’t call it luck.” You grumbled before taking a drink, not really intending him to hear it.
“What’s that?”
“It’s not luck.” You said as you met his eyes fully for the first time. “Not for me. I’ve worked my ass off for this company for years, it’s only luck for people who got a head start.”
You sank your teeth into your tongue just as the words left you, and you could see the smile fade from his face. You suddenly felt flush and thought about apologizing, but he spoke up.
“Ah, so you think I had a leg up?”
“I didn’t mean-”
He waved a hand and laughed. “It’s fine, I know everyone thinks that, you’re just the first person to say it to my face.”
You couldn’t tell if he was offended and playing it off, or if he was really this nonchalant about it.
“Look, no offense, but I don’t think we need to be buddies for this to work. I would rather just get in the field and work things out from there.” You explained as directly as you could.
“That’s fair.” He nodded, to your surprise.
The small-talk ended and when he tried to pay for lunch, you insisted on giving your share. The rest of the day was uneventful, except for the twinge of guilt you had when you thought back on how you spoke to him.
When you got home, you collapsed on the couch next to your roommate, a graphic designer who worked from home and was always in her PJs. You envied her.
“Another rough day at the office, sweetie?” She asked, patting you on the head, condescending but still sincere.
“Remember that douchebag at work I told you about?”
“Oh, the cute one?” She asked with a smile, having seen him when coming to drop off some lunch for you once.
“Whatever, anyway.” You sat up to face her. “The good news is that I got a promotion to a position that lets me travel.”
“Hey, that’s great!” She beamed.
“The bad news is that we have to do it together.”
She looked to consider it for a moment before her lips curled into a devious smile. “On the road for work? Hotel stays? Working in close proximity? Ohh, this is like a spicy romance novel!”
“Ew, stop.” You scowled.
“Only if you stop pretending he’s not hot.”
“Someone can be objectively hot and I can still not like them or be attracted to them. He’s arrogant and he seems to think we’re on the same page somehow. He’s oblivious to his own privilege.”
“Okay, I get that, sorry for teasing you. But hey, this is the break you were looking for, right? Focus on the positive.”
“Thank you.”
She opened up her arms and you hugged for a long moment.
“Maybe while you’re traveling you’ll finally get laid.” She said suddenly into your ear, and you pulled back and glared at her.
“Sorry, sorry! I just know that lately you haven’t really been-”
You stood up from the couch as she spoke. “I’m going to my room now.”
“Let me know if you need help packing!”
You closed your bedroom door and sighed. She meant well, but she had a way of saying things so bluntly that it didn’t quite help. She was right about that, though. Your career wasn’t the only stagnant thing in your life.
You hadn’t had a steady boyfriend in 2 years, and in that time had only experienced a sprinkling of dates that never went anywhere and the 2-3 times you randomly hooked up with someone to great disappointment. Frustrated was an understatement, and you knew part of it was bleeding over into your professional life.
You didn’t expect to have any sort of passionate tryst while out for work, but maybe simply getting into a new scenery would make you feel better?

Pairing: Ally Mayfair Richards x Reader
A/N: this has been in my drafts for quite some time, so enjoy!
“Last order of the night folks!” one of the line cooks called back. Other employees hooted as the night came to a close.
“Thank god, I’m ready to call it a night!” Carla, your coworker, said with a wide grin.
“Me the hell too!” you added.
The evening had gone by relatively slow at the restaurant. Perhaps that was the benefit of working a closing shift on a Sunday night. For the most part, you loved your job. Ally, your boss, was a well established business woman and you respected the hell out of her. She really cared about the restaurant and it truly showed through her work. Not to mention you loved all of your coworkers and genuinely enjoyed making carefully crafted dishes. You had to admit, this restaurant had become a part of you.
Though things changed when Ivy disappeared. Without a culinary manager, Ally couldn’t keep up with all of the work on top of her campaign. The only thing she really could do was hire a new manager to help alongside her.
You could hear a faint whistling sound coming from around the corner. Carla groaned to herself at hearing the familiar tune.
“Ugh, what is he still doing here?” she muttered.
You knew exactly who she was talking about.
Chris took over the culinary manager position months ago in place of Ally’s former spouse. Everyone could agree that he changed the vibe of the restaurant, and it wasn’t in a good way. When Ally wasn’t around, he acted as if the restaurant was his. He treated everyone here like shit and it was obvious that he didn’t care about this place like the rest of you did. Everyone hated him.
“Hiya, ladies! How are we doing back here?” a weasley voice called out. You could feel a chill run down your spine.
Luckily for you, Chris had taken a liking to you. A very extreme liking.
You did your best to keep your eyes on your work as he appeared. It wasn’t that he was ugly. He always kept his reddish brown hair tidy and made sure his beard was well trimmed. He always dressed professionally and had a deceivingly beautiful smile. You’d admitted that he was alright looking. Though he seemed to completely disregard the fact that you were a lesbian.
“We’re fine, Chris. List’s almost done.” Carla piped up.
Chris completely ignored her statement and walked over to where you were standing.
“Miss Y/N? How’s the list coming?” he asked, standing so close that you could feel his breath against your cheek. You tried hard not to choke on the smell of his cologne.
“We’re nearly finished. The only thing left is getting the soup ready for tomorrow morning.” you replied reluctantly.
“Oh, that’s nothing!” He exclaimed. “You can handle that, can’t you?”
Carla rolled her eyes. “Of course we can. Now, can we please finish up?”
Chris turned to Carla, flashing her a passive look.
“Actually, Miss Williams, I won’t be needing you any longer. Why don’t you clock out and take off early tonight, hm?”
“But Ally scheduled me to close-”
“I understand that, but I think Y/N can handle taking your closing shift. Besides, I need to get you off of the clock anyway so you don’t run overtime.”
Carla’s brows furrowed as your blood began to boil. You had been scheduled to open, then asked to stay an extra five hours. Now he wanted you to close by yourself?
“Chris, I’d really prefer it if Carla stayed.”
“You’ll be fine! I know you’re capable. Carla, I’ll clock you out.”
As he walked away, your coworker growled under her breath.
“What the hell is his problem? I’m not even close to over time!”
“It’s okay, it’s not your fault.” you muttered. “I’ll see you on Monday, yeah?”
“Are you sure you’re going to be okay? I can call Ally,”
“It’s fine… Really. Go get some sleep.”
Carla nodded before getting her things.
The rest of the night went painfully slow. Chris continued to keep adding items to your list, while others left. One by one, employees were leaving for the evening. The last dishwasher waved to you right before he went out the back door.
“Night, Y/N!”
“Night.” you mumbled. You were so tired. You were the last one in the kitchen but you had finally finished your list. Beginning to clean, you made sure to rush so that you could leave as soon as possible.
Just as you were taking off your apron, you heard the faint whistling begin once again. Your heart was racing. Chris was still fucking here.
He came around the corner and gave you a sly grin.
“Done?”
“Yeah… Is it good enough for tonight? I was supposed to leave hours ago.”
Chris raised one of his brows. “Did you put the lids on the sink?”
Shit.
“No, I forgot. Let me take care of that…”
You quickly rushed over to the sinks and placed the lids over them. As you placed the last one, you felt firm hands upon your shoulders.
“Woah, woah, woah… Why don’t you slow down? You can take your time, you know.”
Chris was standing directly behind you, his mouth inches away from your ear. His thumbs began to gently rub into your skin. Your body was completely paralyzed.
“I-I’m just trying to get home, that’s all.”
“It’s okay, Y/N. I see how jumpy you get whenever I’m around.” One of his hands brushed your hair back gently. “I know you want me.”
Your eyes widened as you wriggled out of his grasp. You took a step away from him.
“Chris, look, I think maybe you’re reading things wrong-”
In an instant, he cornered you so that his body was pressed against your own. The edge of the counter hit the middle of your back.
“You don’t have to play hard to get, sunshine. We can keep it a secret…” His arm wrapped around your waist and gripped you tight. You tried to push him off of you, but his hold on you was too strong.
“Chris, get off of me!”
“Come on, sweetheart, just one kiss. I promise you won’t regret it.”
“Get the fuck off of me!”
He leaned his face close to yours. You could smell liquor on his breath. His lips barely touched your own as he gazed deep into your eyes.
“Naughty girl… Give Daddy a kiss.”
From behind you, someone cleared their throat rather loudly. You weren’t the only two here. You couldn’t see who it was, but you could see a wave of panic sweep over Chris. He immediately stood up straight. You turned your head to see the person standing there.
“Christopher Martin, do you care to tell me what’s going on here?” Ally said in a rather stern tone.
You had never been so happy to see your boss in your life. She must have come from her campaign, for she was still dressed in her pantsuit. You didn’t think she would be in tonight though you were completely grateful that she’d come when she did.
“I… I was just trying to help Miss Y/L/N close-”
“That’s not what it looked like.” She folded her arms in front of her chest as she slowly made her way closer to Chris.
“It seems like you were trying to sexually assault one of my employees.”
“N-No,” he began, “It’s not like that at all-”
“Where in the fuck do you get off?” Ally shouted.
You bit your lower lip. Chris was absolutely speechless.
“I trust you with my restaurant while I leave to give my speech to the press, and I come back to see you pinning one of my female prep cooks down and asking her to call you Daddy.” The corners of her lips twitched in anger.
“Honestly, Ally, she brought it on. She’s been leading me on for weeks, she was begging me to do something-”
“I do not give a flying fuck about what you have to say. Y/N has never once tried to lead you on, she’s a fucking lesbian for christ’s sake. Did that ever occur to you?”
“I… I..”
“Of course it didn’t, because you’re a fucking prick.” She towered over Chris as her eyes filled with rage.
“If I EVER see you so much as glance at one of my female employees again, I will fucking DESTROY you. Is that clear?”
Your hand was covering your mouth. You had never seen Ally so heated like this. All Chris could do was nod his head, he couldn’t even speak.
“Get the fuck out of my restaurant. You’re fired.”
Chris’s mouth dropped open.
“You can’t do that! I’m the culinary manager!”
“Not anymore. If you don’t leave now, I’ll call the cops and we can make this a bigger deal than it should be. I’ve beat a whole fucking cult before, I won’t hesitate to ruin your life.”
Chris angrily looked at you, then at Ally. She stood close to you, almost shielding you from him. You couldn’t believe what was happening right now.
Without saying anything, he got his coat and stormed out the back door. Ally turned to you before taking your hands into her own.
“Are you okay? Did he hurt you at all?”
Her skin was warm against your own. This touch was much more welcome, more genuine. She made you feel so safe.
“No, I’m okay.” you replied. “Thank you… It would’ve been so much worse if you hadn’t been there.”
Ally cupped one of your cheeks in her hand. “You don’t have to see him ever again, okay? I’ll make sure he never steps foot in here.”
You nodded but you were a little flustered. Ally had never been this close to you before. You got the occasional pat on the back and she would always come back to talk to you in a friendly way, but this was much different. Her eyes were gazing deep into your own as if she was putting you in a trance. You hadn’t even noticed the bright pink blush that had rushed to your face.
Ally was lingering much longer than she had planned to. Her heart was racing. She wasn’t entirely sure why seeing Chris trying to hit on you filled her with so much rage. If it had been any other female employee, he still would’ve gotten fired and she would’ve been just as angry at him. Though seeing him touch you in such a disgusting manner gave her nothing but the desire to slit his throat. Holding you close like this was the only thing keeping her calm.
“Uh… Why don’t you go get your things,” She muttered as she pulled away from you slightly. “I’ll walk you to your car.”
You didn’t question her. Immediately, you went to the back to grab your purse and your jacket. You took a moment to inhale slowly. Tonight had been an absolute rollercoaster.
When you came back out, Ally placed her hand on your upper back and began to guide you out of the restaurant.
“What about the closing work?” You asked.
“Don’t worry about it, I’ll take care of it.” The politician replied.
The parking lot was dark so you were thankful that Ally insisted on coming with you. Chris’s car appeared to be gone, but you could never be too sure. Ally didn’t leave your side once. As you pressed the unlock button on your keys, she opened the driver door for you.
“Now, I want you to take the week off. Regroup. Take some time to recover from everything.”
“But I have a shift tomorrow morning-”
“I’m aware of that.” She glanced at her surroundings to make sure you were completely safe. “I’m going to cover for you, so don’t worry about it.”
“Ally, seriously I can come to work.”
“After what you went through tonight, I feel personally responsible. I cannot believe I hired such a creep.”
“You couldn’t have known he was going to do that.”
“Either way, I want you to stay home this week. You’ll still be paid and I’ll make sure of that. No one should’ve had to go through something like that.”
You were so shocked at her generosity. She was a great boss, but she was more than that. She saved your life tonight. You owed so much to her.
“Um… Thank you. For being there…. I’m not sure what I would’ve done if he had actually done something.”
“Anything for you.” Ally said with a small smile.
“Is there any way I could make it up to you?”
Ally wasn’t one for others repaying simple favors. Instead, she saw this as an opportunity. There was a short silence as she pulled out a business card from her pocket.
“You can let me cook you dinner. Tomorrow night, eight o’clock sharp. Are you free?”
“Yeah, I should be. Are you sure I shouldn’t be the one cooking?”
“Positive. You can repay me by giving me some company, does that sound fair to you?”
A wide grin was plastered across your face. You sat down in your car and turned the key in the ignition.
“Sounds pretty fair to me.”
“Good. Get home safe, okay?” Ally closed your car door carefully before moving to walk away.
You held the wheel tightly. Tonight had been horrendous, that was for damn certain. But now the Ally Mayfair Richards had offered to dinner at her house. Were you stuck inside a fever dream?
A loud knocking sound rattled your window. The sound caused you to jump as you turned to look out. Ally was waving from outside as if to ask you to roll your window down. As you rolled it down, she stuck her head in the frame.
“Sorry to scare you! I was gonna say, make sure to text me when you make it home safe, okay? I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself if something else happened to you.”
“Of course. Good night, Ally.”
“Good night, honey.” She squeezed your hand tight before making her way back into the restaurant.
This wasn’t a fever dream whatsoever. You swore you could kiss Chris right on his disgusting lips for he’d scored you a date with the most influential lesbian in town.

Early on, Severus learned that life wasn’t fair.
He knew that he either had to accept it or drown in things he couldn’t control. Life was hard and unforgiving, but he was a stubborn kid. He refused to accept his circumstances at home and refused to back down at Hogwarts.
Nothing was handed to him in life. Severus had to work for everything, which was fine by him. No one could ever say he wasn’t deserving of anything he earned.
He arrived in Norway with not enough money for food and board. Slept under a bridge until he got his first paycheck, and then rented the poorest, dingiest accommodations he could find with his first paycheck.
He grew up in poverty. What he lived in now was better than where he came from.
But it wasn’t easy.
Living on the streets and looking for a job.
Without an address, many didn’t want to employ him. However, he was determined. He didn’t leave his home and Hogwarts behind to die on the streets in a foreign land.
Severus applied for every apprentice position he could find. Every single one turned him down. Refusing for that to dissuade him working, he offered to do maintenance work. Clean the shop, put away items, and whatever miscellaneous work needed to be done.
He was hired on the spot.
Admittedly, Severus was severely underpaid, but it didn’t deter him. This was only temporary. He’d find something better.
Within a few months, something better found him.
He’d heard a group students arguing about the ingredients of a potions brew. One of the students lack confidence in their answer and the other had 100% belief that they were right. The group went with the confident person, which infuriated Severus.
“Idiots,” he spat. “If you’re the best Durmstrang has to offer, no wonder many parents are sending their kids to Hogwarts. Don’t worry about failing potions, you’ll be dead before the professor can even assess it. He may be a spineless fool,” Severus nodded to the kid who initially disagreed with the overly confident teen. “But at least his brew won’t kill the lot of you...unfortunately.”
Storming out of the deli, Snape prepared for a duel as he discreetly got his wind. Sourly, he chastised himself. This was the first day in weeks he treated himself out to eat because he had to penny-pinch to make ends meet. If the original brew wouldn’t have resulted in death, he would’ve kept his mouth closed. Now he had to fight a group of boys, which gave him a flashback of his time at Hogwarts.
As predicted, the boys attempted to attack him. As Severus prepared to defend himself, someone intervened.
“Hey, what’s going on here?” The man looked at the six of them.
“Nothing,” the man repeated. “Well, the six of you will be doing nothing or SOMETHING in detention with me for the next month.”
Severus pocketed his wand. “I don’t go to Durmstrang,” he said. “I won’t be doing shit with you.”
Assessing him, the man raised an eyebrow, and then glanced at the guy he’d been walking with. “You’re not a student and you’re not a local, there’s no accent. What are you doing here?”
Inwardly, Severus sighed.
When the school term started, he realized he was in the vicinity of where durmstrang was located. Although he didn’t know where the school was nor did he attempt to look, it was quite obvious. The shops that primarily existed for students, the crowding every weekend, the adults who appeared to be monitoring kids.
Naturally, since no one knew where Durmstrang was if they weren’t a student, teacher, or anyone directly affiliated with the school, those who were were suspicious.
“Looking for an apprentice position. I didn’t finish my seventh year, so no Master was interested in taking me on,” he groused.
“Ha,” one boy exclaimed. “You couldn’t even pass your seventh year and you’re calling us idiots?”
Fuming, Severus said, “I did not fail my seventh year, I left. Besides, there was nothing left to teach me that I hadn’t already taught myself. Your potion brew solution is pathetic and if you want to die as a result of incompetence, perhaps they’ll include you in lesson books as to what not to do.”
The other man spoke, “How was their brew pathetic?”
Severus noted the time. “Ask them yourself, they’d love to dazzle you with their stupidity.”
The man scoffed. “Just like I suspected. A bloke full of himself who has nothing to show for it. No wonder none of the masters wanted you as their apprentice.”
Scathingly, Severus explained how and why the potion brew was incompetence at its finest. That him brewing with dirty utensils would be a safer option than whatever this group of boys could do in perfect conditions. Severus cited his Hogwarts issued potions book, which he pointed out was outdated, and said that he’d trusted that over what he heard the boys discuss (and he’d stopped using the books as a source to brew from after his fourth year).
Smiling, the man said, “My name is Rodolphous Sweeney. I own the potions shop two blocks over. I’d like to talk to you more about your potions knowledge.”
“I need to get back to work.” Severus began to walk off.
“How about this?” The man spoke loudly. “If you come back to the shop with me and make three potions without any assistance or mistakes, you can be my apprentice. If you’re successful, you can start today.”
Severus stopped. “Why would you do that?”
“Because you’re right,” he said. “Their potions brew was pathetic. And a wizard that can thoroughly discuss the finer points of potion making based off of a passing discussion is someone I want as an apprentice.”
Severus followed him to the shop.
“What’s your name, boy?”
“Severus Snape.”
Without breaking a sweat, Severus completed each potion with time to spare. In amazement, Rodolphous assessed each potion.
“They’re...perfect,” he complimented. “You’ve completed these in less time than any published books states.”
“I told you, the books are outdated,” Snape said.
“Or they haven’t been updated because there wasn’t anyone brilliant enough to modify any of these instructions to merit an update.”
Blankly, Severus stared at him. “It was obvious.”
“No. It wasn’t.” Rodolphous put the potion down. “What’s obvious to you isn’t apparent to most. You have a brilliant mind, Severus. With that being said, you do have a lot to learn. School only sets the foundation of what it takes to fine tune our knowledge and skill.”
Severus’ black eyes followed Rodolphous as he walked.
“We can learn from each other,” he continued.
As promised, Severus was immediately hired. Rodolphous explained the ins and outs of his business and what he expected from him. It all sounded reasonable to Severus as he shook hands with the potions Master.
In no time, he was Rodolphous’ top apprentice. Frequently collaborating on projects with him and trying experiments.
Severus lived in his dingy quarters for a year until moving into a modest apartment. Bought actual food, still cheap, books, and saved the rest. Unlike with his former employer, he was being underpaid. His time and skill was valued as he learned more about potions and how other disciples connected to it.
He felt like he belonged...somewhat.
When his mother became sick, Rodolphous gave him time to tend to her and promised he’d have a job to come back to when he took care of his personal business.
As he took care of his mother, his father was died. Tobias Snape was violently mugged and choked on his own vomit in an alleyway. His mother died little under three months later.
Complicated feelings swirled within Snape. His tormentor was finally dead. Although his father never put his hands on him, Severus still carried emotional scars. The baggage that continued to weigh him down even though his father was dead.
A weight was not lifted. He didn’t feel better or free.
He just was.
His mother was different and more complicated. He loved and resented her in equal measures. She could’ve left. Why didn’t she leave?
Why didn’t she get them out of there?
He held her hand as she laid dying in her bed. He hurt and wanted to forgive her. His anger pent up ready to boil over.
His heart breaking as her heart failed her.
What was the use in being angry?
At her at least?
Instead, they reminisced over the few happy memories they had. Severus got read his mother books and watched her favorite shows with her.
She died before the episode was over.
Another funeral in less than three months.
Severus was emotionally exhausted in a way he couldn’t deal with. In a way he didn’t want to deal with.
As he did years before, severus kept very little personal items. He sold what he could and threw away the rest. With the money he made from his sells, Severus fixed up the house and contacted a realtor about selling.
Keeping this house meant holding on to memories. Unpleasant memories.
Months later, he came back to Spinner’s end to finalize the deal.
He ran into Lily Evans—Lily Potter.
“Hi, excuse me,” she said.
For a moment, Severus was taken aback. Still beautiful. She always had kind eyes.
Ever since he left hogwarts, whenever he was at Spinner’s end, he used poly juice potion of Rodolphous. He didn’t want to risk anyone (Lily, really) recognizing him.
“Yes,” Severus said.
“Are you the new homeowner?” Severus looked at the sold sticker slapped on the for sale sign.
“No. Afraid not,” Severus said, carefully.
“Do you know what happened to the Snape family,” Lily asked. “I haven’t been around these last few years. I went away and...” she shook her head. “So, I haven’t been up on what’s been happening.”
Severus saw the wedding band on her hand. She couldn’t have married Potter, could she? And so soon?
“Unfortunately,” Severus began. “Tobias and Eileen Snape have passed away.”
Lily clutched her chest. “Oh my God, really?” Severus nodded. “Poor Severus. How is their son holding up?”
“No one has heard from him,” he said. “Apparently he disappeared a few years ago. Without a living family member to claim the house and no one paying the mortgage, the bank seized and sold the house.”
“That’s horrible,” she murmured to herself, tears welling in her ears. Lily wrapped her arms tightly around herself. “Their son and I used to be friends. We ended on a bad note before he disappeared out seventh year. I sometimes wonder where he is. If he’s safe. If he has anyone.”
“Maybe he doesn’t want anyone to wonder after him,” Severus said.
Lily furrowed her brows. “Everyone wants someone to wonder after them. Everyone. I knew Severus was having a hard time at school, but —“
“Lily, my dear, we have to go,” James said as he walked up to them with a baby boy in his arms. “You said it’ll only take a moment.”
Lily wiped her eyes. “Severus’ parents are dead and no one still has heard anything from him.”
Shocked, James looked at lily. “Snape’s a smart guy, he probably—“
“I have to go,” Severus said, walking away before they could speak.
When he returned back to Norway, Severus was quite and kept to himself when work was over. Seeing lily again was a surprise, but he still was grappling with the death of his parents. Why didn’t he feel any different? Well, better? His violent father was dead. Instead, he felt worse and aimless.
As Severus inhaled his cigarette, his co-apprentice Chorus joined him in the alley. Stealing the cigarette from his mouth, she inhaled.
“I was smoking that,” he grumbled.
“I know,” she said. Once again, she puffed, and then handed him the cigarette. “We’re having drinks tonight, join us.”
“I’m not in the mood.”
“I wasn’t asking.” A smile played on her lips. Chorus looked at Severus sympathetically. “I know you’re having a tough time. I get it.” Chorus was very open about the unexpected and tragic loss of her parents. “But you won’t feel better isolating yourself from everyone. Have one drink. If you aren’t having fun by the time you finish it, you can go home. My orders.”
If Severus could smile, he would.
Three beers in, he managed to laugh. Privately, each apprentice spoke to him and expressed remorse for his loss. They appeared to be genuine and offered to help if he needed anything.
Throughout his entire ordeal, they consistently reached out to him while he took care of his mother. Looked in on his apartment. Didn’t touch his station.
Didn’t laugh at him.
Calling it at night, Severus said, “I’m heading out.”
“Can you walk me home?” Chorus walked beside him.
“Uh...sure.”
They chatted on their way to his apartment. Chorus wasn’t just easy to talk to, she had an interesting mind.
“For a world filled with possibilities, wizarding society has such a limited viewpoint,” she said. “Dark magic. It’s a fascinating field of study, but people think that just because you find it appealing it means you’re evil. Or the bullshit categorization what is it isn’t evil.”
Severus arched an brow. “Such as?”
“I understand that there’s levels to this shit,” she began. “However, shouldn’t there be more strict guidelines other than ‘you have to mean it?’ That’s a pretty low bar. Why can’t there be ‘grey magic?’ On a purely academic level, dark magic is interesting as hell. It’s a rich subject because of how intense, unpredictable, and powerful dark magic can be. Who wouldn’t want to study that?”
They moved on to lighter topics.
When they arrived to the front of Chorus’ apartment building, she said, “You should come up.”
Baffled, Severus said, “why?”
Laughing out loud, chorus covered her mouth. “I told them you were bad at this.”
Humiliated, Severus began to walk away when chorus grab his jacket and brought her mouth to his.
She waggled her eyebrows. “You should come up,” she repeated.
“I, um—I,” he stammered.
Chorus kissed his again. “It’s okay,” she promised. “Just follow my lead.”
Slowly, she led Severus upstairs and into her bedroom.
Chorus took her time and was patient with Severus to which he was appreciative of.

Can’t Do This Anymore
Pairing: Yoongi x Reader
Genre: Angst with a hint of fluff if you squint.
Summary: You both notice your relationship falling apart, the love fading. The only difference between you two is that you actually tried.
A/N: This is a oneshot based on a request from anon. Please don’t send more requests to me, I just wanted to do one to get my motivation and inspiration back. This oneshot felt too real for me.
Tumblr media
What makes a relationship last? Make a relationship the relationship? Was it not as simple as forming a strong bond with your partner, choosing them every time, committing to them?
If only that was enough.
They say someone in a relationship will always love more than the other person, and for all the relationships in your life, you were that person. You gave 110% to everyone in your life, and maybe that’s where you failed.
When you first started dating Yoongi, it finally felt like you found someone who was meant for you. Someone who adored you and treated you the way you knew you deserved. Someone who put in just as much as effort as you did.
You met him when you got hired as BTS’ new choreographer. You worked extensively with the boys and thats when the love between you and Yoongi had bloomed.
The first 6 or so months were amazing. Despite the both of you having busy schedules, you both made the time for each other and constantly talked over text or phone calls. You both knew everything about each other and the whole time you felt like you were on cloud nine.
But when did things start to change? Maybe you only noticed when it was too late. Maybe you both got too comfortable? Or was it just him?
The time you spent together became less and less, the texts and phone calls became less meaningful, and the affection just seemed...forced on his part. You now just felt like you were an obligation for him.
But you were anything but a quitter and your relationship with him meant too much for you to just give up on. So you swallowed your pride and you put in the effort for him.
You gave it your all, and he seemed to just absorb that and take it for granted. You scheduled your time together, you cooked for him, you were his emotional tampon, his friend, his lover, and everything in between.
But you gave so much of yourself away that you failed to see that you didn’t get any fulfillment in return.
At one point, you felt like friends with benefits at best, but you still loved him. And he surely felt the same right? Because you gave it you all.
But sometimes, even that isn’t enough.
One day, you again made plans to hang out. You hadn’t seen him a while and he had to cancel the last few times you made plans since he had something come up, though he didn’t really explain what.
You had dressed up and got all excited as you drove over to his place. You knocked on the door, and you could hear Yeontan barking on the other end of the door, which immediately put a smile on your face.
Yoongi opened the door with a small smile, and you noticed that the dorm seemed rather empty but you didn’t think much of it and went straight to Yoongi’s room. Yoongi sat on his bed as you played with Yeontan for a bit before also sitting down on the bed.
And that’s when he said it.
“I’ve been doing some thinking and I think we should break up”
You just looked at him in shock.
“W-what? w...why?” you asked.
“I think right now, I really just need to focus on my career. I feel like I don’t really have time for anything else. I barely even get to see my friends and I just don’t want us to resent each other in the future. I can’t give you what you want, Y/n” he said.
“Have I ever come in the way of your job? Or your future?” you asked, sadly.
“No, no Y/n don’t think that. This is all on me, ok? This has nothing to do with you” he says calmly. “I hate that I’m doing this to you”
“Then why are you doing it? Why are you breaking up before things even get bad?” you ask.
“I just have a gut feeling, Y/n. And I want us to keep each other in our lives. I hope we can be friends, I hope that we can still share our accomplishments, I’d hate to hear about you from someone else other than you” he says.
You spent the two hours trying to reason with him, but if there’s one thing you can’t be in a break-up, it’s logical.
He had made up his mind. He mentioned he also didn’t believe in people getting back together, so this was it. This was the end.
“Sometimes, I think I’m just meant to be alone. I feel like I’m hardwired to be alone. And I’m a piece of shit and I truly hope you find better” he says. “I know you’re strong, and confident, and resilient. You’re an amazing person, and I hope you find someone better tan me” he says, as you stood to leave, teary eyed. “I understand if you hate me. If you want to yell and scream at me go ahead” he says, getting ready to face you.
“I could never hate you. You may think that you deserve to be alone, but I hope you find that someone Yoongi. The person you can depend on and love, you deserve the world. I don’t hate you” you say again. “I want to be friends, but not right now. I need time apart. Goodbye Yoongi”
You opened the door, only to find the rest of the members in the living room. You hadn’t noticed when they came back, and they all greeted you cheerfully as they saw you emerge from the room, only to be quiet when they noticed your teary and red eyes. They stayed quiet as they watched you leave, the only sound in the dorm was Yeontan whining when you didn’t pay him any attention and just left.
“Hyung, what happened? Is everything ok?” Jimin asked.
“We broke up” Yoongi says, bluntly. No emotion on his face.
“WHAT?” some of the boys say in unison.
Yoongi doesn’t explain as he retreats back into his room.
The following week after the break-up was hell. You cried everyday and cried yourself to sleep. You didn’t have an appetite what so ever and your heart just felt so heavy, starting the second you woke up. You felt, empty.
It took you passing out during the middle of dance practice that you finally had enough of your own pity party. Your coworker had taken you to see the doctor and your doctor had mentioned how concerned he was with the lack of sleep in food.
From that day on, you decided that you were going to put yourself first. For the first time in a long time, you put yourself up on a pedestal instead of someone or something else.
You started to eat better, exercise more, meet more friends, and just simply do all the things you loved doing. You were slowly getting back on your feet.
It didn’t really help that you worked together with your now ex, but fortunately you were just working on new choreo and didn’t have to interact with the boys for another few weeks. As far as you have come in the weeks following the doctors visit, you simply weren’t ready to face Yoongi again.
Yoongi on the other hand felt a little free after the breakup. The boys had grilled him about it and he finally told them why he broke up with you, and he could see the disappointment in their eyes. They were all fond of you, and they all thought you were the one for him.
At first, he felt a weight off of his shoulder. He no longer had the burden of a relationship. He didn’t want to keep you waiting and have you resent him in the future and he found some comfort knowing you still wanted to be friends.
But as each day passed, he felt that become more and more uncertain.
It had now been over a month since the break-up and you hadn’t reached out to him. He didn’t see you at BigHit anymore, and he was itching to see you, which was ironic since he couldn’t even be bothered to make plans when he still had you.
He wasn’t active on social media and though he followed you on various platforms, he didn’t want you to know that he was still following up on you, though he was dying to know what you had posted on your story.
The boys still kept in touch with you and they’d mention your name around the dorm sometimes, but Yoongi just pretended like he didn’t care. His friends had joked before that you were too good for him, and now those words sometimes haunted him at night,
One day at the studio, Yoongi drowned in own thoughts. He thought he was getting over you, but his thoughts just naturally wondered over to you. How were you doing? Were you eating, sleeping properly? Did you move on?
He reached for his phone and pulled up your contact. Should he call you? what was he going to say anyways? A tear slipped past his eyes without even him realizing.
It was then he realized he fucked up. He gave up on some one truly fucking amazing. He missed you, and he wanted you back. No, he needed you back.
It was another few weeks before he saw you though. You had actually texted him first. when he saw your notification on his phone, his eyes almost popped out of his head, and he felt his heart race for the first time in over a month.
“I just a little kitten by my apartment like the one we fostered a year ago! It made me think of you. Hope you’ve been well, Yoongi!” your text read cheerfully. It immediately put a smile on his face, and one that wasn’t forced like all the ones he put on for over a month.
He had sent you a reply, and just like when you both first started talking you both had spent hours talking after.
It just came naturally, and Yoongi just felt happy.
He then asked if you could meet him for some bubble tea the following day for which you agreed.
You both then spent hours talking and walking around the small park near your apartment after getting boba. He hadn’t felt this light and happy in so long, and it warmed his heart. Not to mention, you looked amazing. You had that “post break-up glow up”. Yoongi had a hard time looking away from you.
“I should probably get going, I have some work I need to get done” you say, glancing at your watch. “It was nice seeing you again, Yoongi. Good Night!” You smiled as you turned but you felt him grab your arm and turn you around.
He pulled you into a hug.
“I’m so sorry. For what I did, to you. To us” he said.
“Yoongi...” you started.
“I missed you. I miss you still. I miss the way you call me Yoongs. Do you have any idea how many times I had to stop myself from calling you? I thought I made the right decision at the time, but I’m not so sure anymore, Y/n”
“What are you trying to say, Yoongi?” you asked, confused.
“Give us a second chance”

A/N: this one hit kinda close to home. I’m sorry, this is kinda trash LOL but It feels good to write again. Hope you look forward to the other parts of my series!

After reading your "ultra-long postivity post", now I have kind of a weird feeling because i relate a lot to pretty much everything you said, but i ended up approaching the "not everyone can x" from the opposite side, being the "gifted kid" teachers used to hold everyone to unrealistic standards (that i knew most couldnt achieve in the given timeframes), and now i get frustrated when i dont develop skills immediately, because i have done it before and feel like i should be able to and aaaaaaaaaa
Funny story: when I was a kid my parents had both my sister and I tested for learning and developmental disabilities. This testing included IQ testing.
It identified that we were both “gifted” kids* and that I’m dyslexic.
It totally missed my ADHD, though!
The problem with that is that my parents. Hm.
Okay my parents both grew up in very poor families. VERY poor. And they both wanted to go to college and knew the only way that they could was through scholarships. So they became debaters. They met at a tournament in high school.
Debaters are weird. You need an efficient working memory and strong recall and the ability to think quickly on your feet. Being witty and kind of an asshole are also good traits for debaters. Basically you’ve either gotta be really fuck-off smart to be a competitive debater or you’ve gotta at least *seem* really fuck-off smart.
And my parents were champion debaters at a national level. The Whittier College debate trophy has my mom’s name written directly under Richard goddamn Nixon. My dad was on the USC debate team and competed against Harvard and won. Not only that but he ended up coaching debate for USC and Cal Tech.
So as kids who grew up in extremely poor families and were able to go to college and get middle-class jobs and buy a house because of intellectual ability my parents placed A LOT of importance on intellectual ability.
So that IQ score became a large part of my life.
First we attacked the dyslexia. The approach was basically teaching me a bunch of sight words because sounding out phonics doesn’t work when the letters get screwed up. And because I was *gifted* we did a lot of really BIG sight words.
It took about six months to get me up to speed from “memorizing the pages of a story to match the pictures because I couldn’t read along in class” to “the first book I read on my own was The Hobbit.” I guess that counted as “cured” because that was the last time I got any kind of educational assistance.
At that time I was at a gifted school, a really tiny private school that was also an after-school daycare where we did full-day classes and then did gymnastics and swim from 3-6pm. I also was there over the summer because my parents worked.
So going from “tiny private school where the teacher has you stand up in class to read your failing grade in front of everyone so that she could shame you into performing better” to “fine public school in a suburb wealthy enough to have arts programs” was a major, major change. They did an aptitude test because I was transferring in from a different district and there was much discussion about whether or not to move me directly from the second to the sixth grade.
The district refused, thank fuck.
The public elementary school didn’t *have* a gifted program so it took very little time for me to become the Certified Weird Kid. My third grade teacher had me read aloud to our class for twenty minutes a day. I taught the class the multiplication table.
When it got to be time to go to the junior high school my mom went to a meeting for the school’s gifted kids program. APPARENTLY one of the kid’s dad’s basically said “I don’t understand why you’re wasting school funds on field trips for the stupid kids, the school should spend more of its resources on kids who have a chance of actually meaning something to the world” and my mom decided that while being gifted was important it was less important than making sure I wasn’t exposed to assholes of that caliber on a regular basis.
(thanks mom, I actually do really appreciate that reprieve)
Several teachers pushed me into advanced classes - my math teacher insisted that I take the advanced algebra classes in the seventh and eighth grade.
The GATE kids *WERE* assholes and were extra bonus special assholes to me because math was the only advanced class that I was in. (At my junior high school you had to pick your elective based on what level of classes you were in - to take the GATE classes you HAD to take a music elective; if you took art, drama, shop, or home ec you couldn’t take the smart kid classes. The algebra class was a new, separate addition to the program so *some* of the kids in the “electives for dropouts” program could take algebra. Schools are really fucked up, guys, in case you didn’t know schools are really fucked up and that was BEFORE No Child Left Behind).
I got a C in that algebra class and sat in my room for literally an hour screaming at myself for being such a selfish, distracted idiot that I let myself read my books instead of studying harder for the class. (clearly very healthy, normal twelve-year-old behavior)
When it was time to go to high school my teachers made a united plea to the district to transfer me into honors/IB/AP classes.
The kids in the honors/IB/AP classes continued to be kind of awful to me. I got extremely depressed and basically started doing the lazy-but-brilliant thing of completely ignoring homework or in-class work but performing spectacularly well on tests or essays in the classes that I wasn’t catastrophically failing
I was the only person at the school who got a perfect score on the vocab part of my SAT. I was the only honors kid who hadn’t been in SAT prep classes. There was only one other kid who graduated with the same number of units as I had, we’d outstripped the valedictorian and salutatorian but three classes each. I only applied to one college - I got accepted for painting but my interviewer urged me to move to the writing program and I got accepted for that too.
My financial aid didn’t come through and my dad wasn’t willing to cosign for loans on “an art program at a trade school.”
I got accepted to Pratt Institute on their Writing for Publication track which included an internship with the New York Times for third-year students in the program.
At that point I had a Columbia Scholastic Press award for my work on my high school yearbook.
Let me tell you, the community college that I went to and spent five years variously failing and succeeding at had a fucking *killer* newspaper and magazine when I was there. The local community newspaper that hired me when I was 21 was also much better designed and edited than it had any right to be for the three years I worked there (getting paid a whole eight dollars an hour and sometimes working 20 hours straight to get it in to the printer on time).
When I transferred to the state school I got perfect grades and worked full time and won every contest offered by the school’s English Honors society (which I couldn’t join because I was a transfer student and hadn’t done honors classes my freshman and sophomore years). I started a literary magazine with some friends when I graduated; we published four full issues online before it fell apart.
You know what’s also funny?
Even the food-service job I had to pay my way though the community college I felt terrible about attending was a skills test. I was a barista, so of course for a while I was a competitive barista.
I disappointed my parents a lot. I heard a lot of “we know you’re better than this.” I got told I was too smart to be screwing up this bad. I mentioned it a couple weeks ago but my results from that IQ test got compared to my sister’s and that was the justification for holding me to a higher standard. “You’re measurably brilliant, why aren’t you acting like it?”
Here lies the corpse of a gifted kid. Look on my works ye might and despair.
I am the perfect picture of a twice exceptional gifted kid and the reason I wrote all of this out is to tell you one thing:
“Gifted Kid” is a label that someone applied to you, it has nothing to do with who and what you ARE.
It’s very, very unfair that the adults in your life used you that way. I have an exceptionally terrible memory of being singled out as the only one who passed the first test in my IB World History class; “Why is Alli the only one of all of you who is writing at grade level? You’re supposed to be the smartest kids in the school, why did you all fail?”
That’s awful for the kids around you, that’s awful for you. It doesn’t do anybody any favors if people around you are being informed that you’re setting the curve they’ll be judged against. And it really, really doesn’t do YOU any favors because it doesn’t take long *at all* for your brain to learn that that’s all you’re good for. If you aren’t the best at a thing then what’s the point, you HAVE to be best because they already SAID you were best and if you aren’t then all these other people hate you for setting a standard that even you can’t keep up with.
You end up competing with past versions of yourself and focusing on those things that make the grownups in your life praise you because the grownups in your life has praised you in such a way that it’s turned all the other kids against you.
You know who bullied the fuck out of me? The kids I taught the times tables to, the kids I read to for half an hour a day.
Those kids were MEAN to me but the teacher who told me to read Boxcar Kids to the class after lunch everyday was NICE and she told me not to worry, they were just jealous and I should be proud of my gifts.
“Anon did this in three minutes. What’s taking the rest of you so long?” - what a terrible weight to put on a child. You’re right. Not everyone can do everything.
Fucking hell.
Adults what the everloving shit is wrong with us? Please don’t treat kids like that.
Okay.
Okay.
But here’s the other thing:
If there’s any time in your life that it’s easy to acquire skills with no apparent effort it’s when you’re a child surrounded by a support system that is engaged in making sure that you can acquire those skills.
It took three adults, two dictionaries, and several hours a day to teach me enough sight-words to throw me into “look at baby genius*” territory but from my perspective as a little kid I was just reading cool stories.
I spent four hours a day in the yearbook room and ditched and failed other classes so that I could work on the yearbook. I collected hundreds of magazines to get an eye for layout. But from my perspective as a teenager it was a fun activity that I did with the closest thing I had to friends.
I’m sure that there are some skills that you had a natural aptitude for, some things that came naturally. But I’m also sure that you didn’t learn those skills with no effort, it’s just that now as an adult with a life and other shit going on it takes more effort to learn to do things.
In all likelihood you weren’t a savant who did everything perfectly the first time you tried. It just seems that way because even really smart kids don’t know when they’re bad at things and are mostly being compared against other kids (with the few rare exceptions of music prodigies or math prodigies or those kids who end up in science grad programs at 12 and boy howdy do I think there’s a whole other can of worms when it comes to the way child prodigies* interact with the world).
You wanna know what probably saved my life in the last few years?
That “anti-capitalist love notes” tumblr post.
Tumblr media
You are worth more than your productivity.
You are worth more than your productivity.
You are worth more than your productivity.
I was actually kind of offended the first time I saw that post on my dash. “No I’m not,” I thought. “You’re only worth what you can do, everyone knows that. People care about what you do for them.”
And why the hell would I think anything else? That’s what I’d learned for pretty much my whole life.
It took me a really long time to understand that I was wrong. I matter outside of what I can do for people or how well I perform. I matter more than being able to perfectly recite poetry from memory or do calculations on command or sit down at a piano and play a piece I’ve never played by sight-reading it.
And you matter outside of that too. You’re more than your performance, you’re better than being gifted. There are people who love you for the way you make them laugh and how you listen to their stories and for the simple joy of your presence.
It’s nice to be clever, it’s handy in a lot of situations even if it does come with a lot of baggage for some people.
But god damn, it’s important to be kind.
* Personally I have issues with the way that society constructs the concepts of giftedness, genius, and prodigies. There are a lot of “gifted” kids who were the kids who scored in the top 5% of their class in school but there are also gifted kids who were doing high-level math or reading novels as toddlers; there are prodigies who showed an aptitude for music young and who were then schooled in that instrument to the exclusion of all other activities (and I bet there are a fair number of kids who might be considered prodigies if they were trained to play flute for nine hours a day and didn’t have friends but thankfully we don’t *do* that to very many people - side note, ask me my opinion about olympic athletes some time). Words like “genius” and “gifted” are very nearly meaningless and almost *never* accurately reflect skills proficiency or long-term success or are reflected in income or respect. People think that geniuses are hypercompetent robots with their shit together but literally every adult I know with a genius-level IQ is some variety or other of total fucking tire fire.

“What is love you ask? Love is a lot of things. It is the feeling you get when one smiles at you, the butterflies dancing around in your stomach. It is a jolt of electricity that shoots through the part they touched, sometimes even through your whole body. Then, when your lips touch, it is as if fireworks have gone off in the distance. It is like you two are the only ones alive on this earth, just the two of you. Do not forget the way your heart races as they tell you they love you, or when they just speak to you because you love hearing their voice so much. That warm feeling you get when you are able to smell their perfume or cologne they always wear. You begin to think home is no longer a place, but it is a person and sometimes maybe it is. Sometimes, the feeling you get is the feeling of warmth and security. Security being a feeling every human being needs.”
When Steve got to a hotel to stay overnight at to give his wife some space, he pulled out the paper with his wife’s vows written on it from his wallet. He always kept it with him, no matter where he went because it warmed his heart and reminded him he had a wife at home waiting for him and that she loved him deeply. He paid for a few nights thinking that’s how long his wife might need to let what happened process. It was still processing through his mind that him and Y/N are now separated. He really screwed up and Steve did not think it was fixable.
Steve got a call on the third night of his stay at the hotel from his best friend, Bucky and when he answered with a groggy voice, Bucky’s was frantic and full of panic. “Steve, you have to get over to your house. The team is already there.”
“Bucky?” Steve sat up, rubbing his eyes while trying to wake up a little bit more. “Wha-what’s going on?”
“Y/N was taken. By H.Y.D.R.A. and they want what’s theirs back in exchange for Y/N.” It took no time for Steve to jump right into action and tell Bucky he was on his way all the while he was throwing on jeans and boots. His phone was put in his front pocket, grabbing his wallet and keys off the side table and he was out of his hotel room.
~
When Steve arrived, he spotted Bucky talking to Natasha and Tony on the front porch and he turned his motorcycle off, hopping off it to quickly jog over to them. He immediately questioned them, “Have you found her? Do you know where my wife is?”
Natasha was the first to speak, but her statement was short and cold. “No, we haven’t.”
“Shit,” Steve’s hands dug through his sandy blonde hair and was pulling hard while tears pricked his eyes. He could’ve prevented this. He could’ve done anything. This was his fault, he cheated on her with Sharon- “Why the hell is Sharon here?” Shit, this is gonna go downhill really fast, Steve thought to himself when he saw the woman standing with Nick Fury. Steve turned on his heel, trudging back to his motorcycle with Bucky hot on his heels yelling for him. Snatching his helmet off the seat, Bucky threw it quite a few yards away from them.
“It’s time to own your shit, Steve. You cheated, everyone knows that now. But right now, you can’t leave. The team is trying their best to get Y/N, Steve. Now, come back and help us instead of running like a little bitch.” said Bucky.
Of course everyone knew. His wife probably confided in Tony after Steve left considering that is her best friend and Tony has a knack for telling people things he shouldn’t. Not like it surprised Steve, he just wanted to be the one who said something about it, owned up to it. Steve nodded and walked with Bucky back to Tony and Natasha with a guilt hanging by his shoulders. Natasha’s glare and Tony’s look of disappointment was making him feel worse which he knew was what he deserved but he felt a little angry for them not seeing his side. Then Steve realized he had no side, or at least no good one. He’d broken his wife’s heart, his teams really good friend and asset’s heart. He deserved every hateful thing that came at him.
“Rogers? Can we talk for a minute?” her sickly sweet voice made his blood boil and he didn’t want to lose it in front of his team but he also didn’t want to hear her voice at all. “Steve, please,”
“No, Sharon. Go away.” said Steve without turning around to face the blonde woman.
Sharon sighed heavily, “Please, Steve, we need to talk.”
“Talk about what, Sharon?” his whole body whipped around so fast, Sharon jumped from the sudden closeness and the angered appearance. “About the fact I lost my wife three days ago because I fucked your slutty ass a month and a half ago? It was one time. You need to leave. I’m having Fury get you off of this case and I don’t want you near me. Or my fucking wife. Got it, agent Carter?” Steve hadn’t bothered to censor himself and he didn’t care about the devastated expression painted on her face, the one he caused. It made him feel good to say that but also, horrible at the same time. It wasn’t a way to talk to a woman yet he did. He treated a woman wrong before this; his wife. Steve strolled away, Bucky by his side, and left Sharon there with a broken heart that was beating for only him. He fueled that fire and all he could do was let it burn out.
~
Meanwhile, Y/N was tied to a metal chair with a piece of clothing tied around her mouth and head in an extremely bitter room with no windows and every wall was a bland white, no furniture besides the chair Y/N was tied to or from what she could see.  Her vision was blurry and her head pounded with a strong pain that was coming from the spot she was hit. She blinked a few times to clear her vision and she saw a table a few feet away from her covered with weapons; daggers, pistols, machine guns, grenades, knives, butcher knives, shotguns, and so many more. What caught her eye was the small bottle of chloroform and a rag next to it. Shit, she cursed to herself. The rope was rubbing her skin raw making it painful to move even a centimeter. How long has she been out?
“Ah, good morning, sunshine,” her e/c eyes shot to the man with a thick Russian accent who came in through the steel door on her left. She winced at the slight movement. “Have a good night's sleep?”
She tried to speak but it only came out muffled and the man chuckled deeply before making his way to her to take it out the cloth from her mouth. “Who the hell are you?”
“Oh, got a potty mouth, do we? That’s not very ladylike, miss Y/N,” said the man. “Let me introduce myself, I’m Vadim Ivanov. I’m an agent in H.Y.D.R.A. and you vill be staying vith us for a bit vhile ve vait for your little teammates. There’s no choice in that, krasotka,”
“What are you talking about? Why are you waiting on them? What do they have that you need so badly?”
The man got uncomfortably close to Y/N tucking a piece of hair back and she was able to smell his breath that stunk of raw fish, and he had nasty, yellow teeth that were rotting. His hot breath got next to her right ear sending a chill down her spine and he spoke, “That is none of your business, printsessa. All you need to vorry about is if they vill get here in time to get you out alive. Hopefully, they do. You are a very pretty woman, liybimaya. It vill be devastating for me to have to kill you. If I could, I’d take you for myself.” Vadim let go of his hold of her cheek and sauntered over to the table. Y/N watched him as he took a peek out every gun making sure they were all loaded and Y/N couldn’t help but really fear for her life. She’s been kidnapped before, it should’ve been mentioned in the interview with Nick Fury when she was getting hired as an agent that it’d happen a couple times. This time felt different to her though. Something felt off about this whole situation and she was beginning to feel deep down she wasn’t going to make it out alive.
Salty, warm tears started leaking from her eyes without any warning and she hadn’t realized she was crying until she felt a tear fall onto her bare thigh. Her eyelashes were sticking together with the wetness from her tears, tears falling into her mouth and onto her thighs. She sniffled as she felt her nose beginning to run. Y/N had never felt so scared.
“Please, let me go, Vadim. Please. I can get you whatever you want. There’s no need to do this. Just let me go. Please…” she begged. Vadim continued what he was doing until he got to the knives and daggers when he picked one up to examine it. Y/N felt like such a coward, she’s never done this on missions but everything was different, everything felt different. She was vulnerable thanks to her husband and the Ectopic pregnancy and it was making her this way. Y/N dropped her head with a loud sob escaping her lips, was this what it felt like to let go? This was how it felt like to be cheated on. She felt a hand lifting her chin up and she was met with the dark green eyes of Vadim’s along with a sweet smile of his. A gasp fell from her lips when the coldness of the dagger touched her knee and the immediate pain when he cut her knee. “No, no, no, Vadim, please. Don’t do this. Don’t do it anymore. Stop, please, Vadim.”
“I can not do that, printsessa. I vas given orders and I am to do as I am told. Now, say cheese.” Y/N’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion until the hammer she didn’t even know he grabbed was swinging at her knee. The break of the bone travelled through the room and she let out a shriek just as Vadim took a picture of her. “Идеально (perfect),”
“Как, черт возьми, это так Идеально (how the hell is that perfect)? Ты только что сломал мне чертово колено (you just broke my damn knee)!”
Vadim looked at her in surprise when she spoke back to him in Russian. “Ты можешь говорить на русском (you can speak Russian)?”
“Я агент, ты чертовски осел (I’m an agent, you fucking ass). Конечно я могу (of course I can)!”
smack
“Не говори со мной так, сука (don’t speak to me that way, bitch)!”
“О, иди трахни себя (oh go fuck yourself). Я могу говорить с тобой в любом случае я хочу (I can talk to you in anyway I want).” Y/N snapped back at him.
“Я должен был взять Шарон вместо (I should’ve taken Sharon instead). Неудивительно, что Стив Роджерс обманывает (no wonder Steve Rogers is cheating).”
“Ебать тебя (fuck you)!”
crack
Y/N let out a deafening scream the hammer came in contact of her right wrist then her toes on her left foot when Vadim drops it. Y/N was sobbing noisily when she heard the ping of a video starting.
“Hello, Avengers. My name is Vadim Ivanov. Don’t bother looking it up because every file of mine has been erased. Your beloved Y/N is sitting here, avaiting for your guys’ arrival and I am giving you 12 hours to find us and give us vhat ve vant. As each hour goes by, she vill get hurt. Currently, she is suffering from a concussion, a broken kneecap, a broken vrist, and possible broken toes. I accidentally dropped the hammer. Oops?” he let out a loud laugh. “You have 12 hours to find us. If you don’t come by the time those 12 hours are up, she vill be dead. Your time starts now.”

⌠ ERIC OSBORNE, 21, NON-BINARY, HE/THEY ⌡ welcome back to gallagher academy, FRANCES ‘FRANK’ LAVOIE! according to their records, they’re a FIRST year, specializing in MACGYVER SURVIVAL SKILLS AND NAVIGATION & COVERT OPS; and they DID go to a spy prep high school. when i see them walking around in the halls, i usually see a flash of oversized clothing stitched with thick yarn and littered with cat hair, the snap of stretched balloons before they’re blown and a post-nap dazed gaze. when it’s the (virgo)’s birthday on 09/01/1999, they always request CORN DOGS from the school’s chefs. looks like they’re well on their way to graduation. ⌿ tasha, 22, she/her, est ⍀
well well well .. id meant to bring another kid ages ago .. n then jus didn’t because the personality part was/is givin me grief FGJH so pls 🐻  w me n replies as i figure out his voice . also .. haven’t even written out my intro yet . . bt ik it’s gna be long apologies , pls feel free to just read the tldr
tw: death, accidental murder, grief.
TLDR: grew up fairly well off to spy parents who didn’t want him to be part of that world but apart from that didn’t care what he did with his life otherwise. he often questioned whether they really cared for him at all (tht quote thts like .. if u love me u love me in a way i cant understand). luna’s his best friend, and he’s obsessed with his aunt and uncle’s circus that stops into town every year. life is pretty great until luna ‘dies’ at 16. he joins the circus and becomes a clown, he loves performing with all his heart. at 18, his aunt and uncle arm him with a credit card and tell him to go travel, he assumes it’s because they just want him to explore the world. visits europe for six months and asia for six months, enjoys it but misses the circus terribly, busks a lot. they actually send him away to distance him from the shady happenings that are starting to boil within the company. he comes back in time for the halloween switch-a-roo, where everyone rotates their act (so he does the magic show as a clown). he’s part of a set-up that results in him accidentally killing a person and sawing them in half. his aunt and uncle call his parents, who reluctantly send him to prep school for a little less than a year to heighten his chances of getting into a spy school for protection, which he does. dedicated to working hard and getting a high paying job to pay for reparations for the circus and do a massive overhaul of the way it runs, because it’s like his second home.
grew up in waterford ct, to one retired spy parent ( his mom ) and his dad who works with the government and is aware of espionage. his mom straight up didn’t have a good time, no one really talks about it, he has no idea what happened, doesn’t know if his dad knows either but it’s clear that they don’t want him going into the spy world.
he feels like he’s always been treated like an adult for as long as he remembers, not in the sense that they burdened him with responsibility, but that they didn’t seem to care what he did one way or another. the best way i can describe it is that his parents had the same energy as a character in a yorgos lanthimos film, very dry and lifeless, like they’re on autopilot. he’d try and cuddle his mom and she’d just pat him on the head. he couldn’t really rebel against them and as long as he went to school and got good grades they appeared un-phased about what he got up to, a very mind your own business dynamic shared between family.
he didn’t get up to a whole lot, he was a bit of an outsider. didn’t make friends very easily because he didn’t know how to let himself go around people, even though he’d sometimes be excited but wouldn’t know how to show it. definitely had that reserved temperament ingrained into him from his parents.
he did have one friend who knew him inside and out, luna <3 who was also his neighbour. their demeanours were a perfect match but also he’d find himself getting so excited and wanting to tell her about his day or listen to hers, or read with her or play hopscotch or send her secret notes with his flashlight at her window.
there was one other thing that got him terribly excited and it’s when his aunt and uncle’s traveling circus would stop in. he’d go every single day for the week and a half it was there. his parents would arrange one dinner with them and consider their familial duty done, other than that they remain out of contact with them. his aunt and uncle tell him that he’s always welcome to join, and he holds them to it. his parents say do whatever you want, just graduate high school first.
his whole world kinda crumbles when luna ‘dies’ at sixteen. he feels immense guilt over it thinking he should’ve done something about that skeevy bf of hers...this also coincides with one of his mom’s friends dying (harlowe’s mom) which makes his mom act even weirder so he fast tracks his plans to join the circus and joins at sixteen, doesn’t graduate high school. i envision the convo btw him and his dad went like:
“dad, i’m joining the circus.”
“graduate high school first.”
“no.”
“okay son, i can’t control you.”
the company welcomed him with open arms and he tried out everything, acrobatics, sharpshooting, but wasn’t particularly talented at anything. except, clownery. because messing up is commended, noting how all the kids would laugh at him trying basic magic tricks. so his aunt and uncle got him into a clown costume lickety-split. performing brought him a lot of joy through the grief like he’s an entirely different person when performing, insert that one cursed joker picture: put on a happy face.
because the owners were his aunt and uncle he was treated exceptionally well and he was very oblivious to the malpractice that went on behind the scenes. the circus had a whole sector dedicated to pickpocketing (other kids who he just saw as friends were often runaways from broken homes who didn’t have anywhere else to go and earned their wages by stealing from customers), and serious kerfuffle with pay, probably some extortion going on, just general yuckery. he vaguely knew it was happening but was kind of like it is what it is kinda standpoint. heavily inspired by the circus barney and clint barton grew up in reffed in the 2015 run of all-new hawkeye.
a couple years later his aunt and uncle give him a credit card and tell him to go travel for a bit. he does because why not but misses the circus terribly. he spends six months in europe and six months in asia, busks as a clown a lot and but his on-the-road/home sickness never really fades.
he returns super excited, ready to clown around but it’s evident tensions are just really high between the workers but they’re still all super sweet to him because he’s very sweet even if he’s oblivious. halloween comes around which is his favourite time of year because they do this thing called the switch-a-roo, where everyone switches what act they’re doing, bicycle acts do contortionist acts, lion tamers do rope walkers, magicians do animal taming and clowns do magic acts. it’s just one big laugh because obviously most of them are cross-trained, but it’s meant to be more of a comedy thing and their mess-ups are to an extent choreographed but also capitalizes on the scariness because they hype up the fact that they have no idea what they’re doing.
he’s doing his magic act, messing up all the magic tricks showing all his cards, and his last act is the sawing someone in half, so the assistant comes out in the box, really selling it like omg a clown !!! being like stop !!! you don’t know what you’re doing !!! and frances is like playing along with the act, as he was told that the gag would be when they split the boxes they’ll have some practical effects to make it look like he’d accidentally actually cut the assistant in half. fumbling with a very real chainsaw, he does the choppity-chop which takes a bit more muscle than he thought it would and the assistant screams a lot then pretends to pass out. anyways it wasn’t an act he accidentally cut someone in half, and they die.
EXTRA CLOWN LORE THAT’S NOT IMPORTANT FEEL FREE TO SKIP!
i envisioned that worker negotiations had been going on for a while and had kinda reached a stalemate where nothing was happening, and there were rumblings about frances being off travelling and spending a shit ton of money where it could’ve been put towards the workers and the circus and his aunt and uncle would hear threats thrown towards frances which is why they wanted him to stay away/go travelling for a while. the girl who was killed did so knowingly, and died a martyr (and also left frances a note explaining things and how she was sorry that he was the one that had to kill her). the whole thing was executed with a lot of thought: how it would affect frances and how it would be seen as a personal attack against his aunt and uncle - and that while the act seemingly went off without a hitch and the public didn’t suspect a thing, the workers have leverage to make it public (which ideally they don’t want b/c a lot of the workers are pretty disenfranchised or have criminal records and truthfully don’t want the end all being the circus closing b/c they do love their job just not the conditions). his aunt an uncle are in a bit of a jam because they need an investor but can’t get that because of shady hiring practices in the first place, and their greed definitely exacerbated the problem.
after that happens his aunt and uncle immediately call his parents, who despite never wanting him to go into the spy industry believe that it would be the safest option for him, and enrol him in prep school (which he attends for less than a year) so that he has more of a chance getting into gallagher the following year, which, with the right strings pulled happens.
now he’s dedicated to giving it his all so he can get a really high paying job and do a complete overhaul of the company and make a lot of reparations that should’ve been made years and years ago.
personality
- very patient, a slow talker and more of a listener.  - idealistic, in the sense that he’s always been surrounded by people either in poverty of vulnerable, and despite being a caring guy, adopted that kind of mind your own business mentality his parents had. even his desire to get rich in order to save the circus is a very unrealistic plan or at the very least would take a very long time to achieve.  - tired, i know it’s not a personality trait but i’m making it one, he’s a little bit dazed, not gloomy per se but like he’s woken up from a nap and needs to warm up a bit before being a functioning part of society. but that’s like all his interactions. has the gait of like a drunken kung fu master, very limber.
headcanons
has slight imposter syndrome about clowning, knows he’s great and always got a standing ovation but can’t help but wonder how much nepotism played a role in her being the main clown in the company.
planning on hiding out in her room during halloween, but is very bittersweet about it, because he thinks that halloween is one of the only times that people are happy because they get to be anyone they want and has found that most people don’t want to be themselves.
has an overweight, old cat which he’s had since he joined the circus and has been everywhere with him. it’s name is cat. he also has an album on his phone of all the strays he’s ever met, which is a lot being on the road. he named all of them but they never got to come with him.
sleeps a lot, probably has some sort of chronic sleep disorder, but enjoys the sweet release from life so he doesn’t question it. has no shame and will sleep anywhere and does.
loves making balloon animals, was his favourite thing to do at the circus. keeps a jewelry dish full of unpumped balloons on his bedside table. also a big reader, and hoarder of anything that can fit in a small travel notebook (leaves, ticket stubs, pictures, anything).
wanted connections: i’ll update my actual google docs in the coming days but people he met while traveling for a year, anyone with pets wanting to have a pet playdate (cat’s not too active but he could use some company), someone who catches him crying (he cries a lot haven’t peeped his full chart but i can sense the water energy from miles away), people who wake him up when he falls asleep in class, in the common rooms, outside, flirty flirts, someone who’s been to the circus, someone who clowns him about being a clown and he gets super angry, really anything, i’m terrible at coming up with connections i get such a thrill from mundane relations i’m boring <3

I feel the need as a true believer in Socialism, as a Marxist Leninist knowing full well the conditions of Neoliberal Capitalism and Imperialism in which we live, to warn people about the rampant Wage Theft Employers are getting away with.
About two months ago I took a job as a Shift Manager at Marco's Pizza in Louisiana. The Franchise Owner gave the interview and hired me at $9.50 an hour with the understanding that my pay would go to $10 once I was trained.
Within a week I knew this job would be a problem. On my fifth day I worked a shift with the Owner who immediately began barking and yelling at me within minutes of clocking in. With utter disdain in her voice she told me she was very "disappointed by my performance" and that after a week I should have "most of the job down".
No joke, she expected that my years of Management experience meant I should have the entire job at a completely different business down pat by my fifth day.
Long story short, I noticed that my pay didn't seem right. My first two paychecks had been higher than subsequent ones.
Well, I just found out that without any disciplinary actions on my record, without any official or even verbal warning, my pay had been cut behind my back. In fact, I still don't even know exactly how much I'm making, but it's closer to the Federal Minimum Wage.
Mind you my last job was as an Assistant Manager at Family Dollar where I earned $11 an hour and never had a single complaint with regards to my work performance.
Well I've been taken advantage of and mistreated by employers one too many times and this is the last straw. According to Louisiana Labor Law (a Right-To-Work State with almost no Worker Rights at all and no Minimum Wage), my employer can lower my wages or hours without reason at anytime. HOWEVER, I MUST BE NOTIFIED BEFORE SUCH PAY CUTS TAKE PLACE.
Therefore I looked at local laws, contacted a Law Firm specializing in local Employment based cases and while I await a response I've decided a plan to get payback and fight back.
I've downloaded a call recording app and tested it. I've set it up to immediately begin recording all incoming or outgoing calls within one second of being answered. I set it to maximize the recording quality and got the Owner's cell number.
Having dealt with this entitled, Pettty Bourgeois woman on a multitude of occasions now, I know her temper and need to always prove her power to do what ever she likes is likely to also be her biggest weakness.
I'm planning out a call structured in such a way as to bring these qualities of hers out and get her to admit on the recording that she violated the work contract by not notifying me of my pay cut.
I plan on filing an official suit against her immediately afterwards and knowing her, she'll likely fire me in a blatant case of retaliatory dismissal, which would raise the matter from a minor local matter, to one that puts the business itself at risk.
I then plan on contacting her Business Partners and alerting them of not only my own case, but various instances I've been witness to of retaliation on employees as well as blatantly illegal violations of minimum wage laws of store Drivers I've witnessed countless times. It's literally a business strategy of hers, not on occasional thing.
I hope that by making it clear just how unstable and reckless this woman is, that her Business Partners will recognize the liability she's become and sue for control over the company as the financiers.
Finally, I very much intend on making my case as Public as possible and involving the Corporation, not because I believe they can be held legally responsible, I'm well aware they can't, but so that the company will pull their licensing agreements with the Franchise, putting them out of Business and thoroughly ruining her life and career once and for all.
Then she can finally know what it's like to work for garbage wages for en employer that treats you like shit.
I'm not interested in getting money out of this. I could give a fuck less. I'm interested in taking out the career of the worst Employer I've ever had in my life, and one who regularly violates the Law and then makes her employees as miserable as possible on top of it.
She is truly the Boss from Hell. If I had the time, I would recount story after story after story of how this woman leverages her position of power over Workers to purposely and obviously make them as miserable as humanly possible. I've never in my life encountered a more horrible human being. And I look forward to thoroughly destroying every aspect of her life.
I would also recount more detail in the various plans I've carefully been making to do just that. But thats the basic gist of my plan. No one should have to live with an employer like this. Especially the most powerless workers in our society.
As if these jobs weren't horrible enough as it is. Someone like this comes along and enjoys making people feel as awful as possible. Her insults, condescension and now wage theft make her the worst human being imaginable.
I will truly truly enjoy ruining her life. Guess she's never employed a Marxist-Leninist before.
Anyone reading this, if you ever find yourself working in Hellish conditions like this, DON'T WAIT TWO MONTHS OR LONGER LIKE I DID! GET OUT OF THAT TOXIC STRESS INDUCING SITUATION AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE, CONTACT ANYONE YOU CAN TO MAKE SURE THAT EMPLOYER CAN'T JUST KEEP TREATING WORKERS THIS WAY. NO ONE DESERVES THAT.
I also understand quite well how trapped a person can feel in a nightmarish job like this. Some resources do exist however and you must do all you can to take advantage of any Social Services you can find in your area to help you escape a bad boss as quickly as you would an abusive partner! Abuse is abuse no matter whom it comes from and you NEVER deserve to be abused by someone in a position of power! No one does!
It's so important people learn not to put up with abuse, sexual or any other kind of harassment, wage-theft or any other form of abuse. In the age of Neoliberalism, Employers think they can get away with anything. And sadly they often do! But most of the time they aren't getting away with it because of the weak Labor Laws, though that's absolutely a HUGE problem, but instead they get away with it because people STAY QUIET ABOUT WORKPLACE ABUSE!
Don't stay quiet if you have any other option! Please? Please, it's going to take all Workers to defend all Workers from these widespread abuses of power. We can only stop it by working together and no longer staying quiet!
I also advise all Workers to LEARN YOUR RIGHTS!
Yes many States in the US have incredibly lax Labor Protections, or none. Or they have laws specifically designed to protect EMPLOYERS instead of Workers. That's why it's so important to learn Federal Labor Laws, State Laws, and even your local city ordinances which may protect you further depending on where you live. And I definitely do not recommend doing anything like I'm doing without first making sure you're not breaking any laws yourself. In some States, recording a person in a phone call without their permission is against the Law and can get you into a hell of a lot of trouble! Don't get yourself in trouble with the Law for any shitty Employer! Make sure you fight back against workplace abuse LEGALLY!!!!
This has been a Socialist/Communist/Labor PSA.
Workers Of The World, UNITE!!!
