Normally I don't touch FB but literally accidentally opened the app and thought I'd take a scroll.
Saw this which I only have 1 issue with.
Dwayne the Rock should clearly be cast as Toph

So I forgot to post more of my cursed atla fancast edits whoops
So uh I cast corpse husband and mitski as Zuko and Mai respectively bc they’re both angsty musicians and corpse’s avatar’s mask thing and his raspy voice remind me of Zuko.
As for Admiral Zhao and Princess Yue… well… it was too easy.
“I woke up one morning when I was invading the northern water tribe and Iroh was standing over my bed and she said, "I just heard that Princess Yue and the moon spirit have been killed in the spirit oasis." Like I had something to do with it! I was like, "General, I have been here all night! You can feel the TV, it's warm."

Going to say this now even though I barely post here::::: Adaptations are never meant to be a 1:1 recreation of the original source material. The goal is never to recreate the exact same experience in a different format, the whole point of remaking something in a different format is to make something new.
I don’t understand why people are out here acting like the new Netflix ATLA walked onscreen, shot the original with a 44 and declared itself the new ATLA. I’m not saying you can’t criticise anything about it or any other adaptation, I just think a lot of people need to remember that an adaptation that gives you the same experience and explores the exact same themes and doesn’t elaborate on or look at things in different angles would be utterly pointless.

idc what people are whining abt, i actually really enjoyed the netflix avatar series. the costume and set design was really beautiful, the effects were great, the performances were great. i think people are weirded out about the pacing and i understand that, but at the same time, they're working on netflix's budget and i think they did a great job utilizing the important material in book 1 to tell as well rounded of a story as they possibly could. and like sure, i get that it was jarring to see them start at the VERY beginning instead of starting w katara and sokka finding aang like the original show does for ex, but like. idk! i think they shouldn't feel obligated to hit every plot point beat for beat and i don't think we lost anything by establishing aang's background early on. actually, every single scene with master gyatso made me fucking bawl lol. aang's loss is soooo much more palpable in this show than the original one imo bc it lingers on that pain a lot more. there were a few story choices that kinda made me scratch my head a bit, like the fact that teo wasn't introduced as part of the new Northern Air Temple population and what effects that had on aang, but i'm really not mad about it. anyways i give it two big thumbs up and i hope it gets renewed for another season

honestly if natla has an ember island episode that completely shits on their own version of the show I will excuse every possible irredeemable quality about it

The making Sokka less sexist thing doesn't bother me because "it's such a big part of his character arc!" so much as it's a sign of how the showrunners will handle character flaws and difficult subjects going forward.
That combined with Sokka's actor being incredibly light-skinned, if not white (which I'm not qualified to get into), tells me the showrunners care more about paying lipservice to progressivism than they do about improving on the source material or being culturally accurate

finally got around to watching the live action ATLA and personally really enjoying it, nothing can top the og ofc, but love seeing it in a new format and the way I can so clearly recognise shots and almost entire scenes from the animated series makes it especially cool to me
