SUDDEN MIDNIGHT REALIZATION:
The reason everyone thought Aang was a bad kid/troublemaker automatically when he went to the Fire Nation school was because he didn't have a top knot and it appeared like his head was recently shaved and was growing back.
youtube
Everyone in this clip has their hair long and up.
The teacher must have made some snap judgments on his appearance and comportment alone and must have factored that in.
Judging by how big a deal it was when Zuko and Iroh cut theirs off, they must think Aang must be pretty bad and was sent back to the homeland for re-education.

My Atla headcannons/theories
•Alpacas are native to the land of the Southern Air Temple.
•The Water Tribe engagement necklaces are made from a form of nacre (because it’s more fun that way) from like a barnacle-clam or smthg.
And the ribbon isn’t imported silk from the Fire Nation (they’re based on Japan and why does Japan have silk? Bc the humidity. Fite me) or lotus silk from the Earth Kingdom (they totally took the FN’s way of mulberry silk making, excellerated via the colonies, but that’s a lotta land! And I’m fascinated by how many diff ways we can make fabric. Obv they also have the various forms of sheep too).
Tumblr media
But something special and from around those respective areas.
So I present to you the ribbons being made from the northern yak-things and southern leopard-things, etc.
But if you really wanna show how devoted and serious and skilled you are?
Sea Silk!
Which I decree as having distribution around both regions via the oyster-clam or whatever it would be in this world. (In this case, it turns a deep, beautiful blue instead of gold—at least, that’s how the Tribespeople prepare it anyway.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also Moth Silk!
Same with the arctic wooly bear moths as northern wooly bear-moths and southern snow leopard-moths.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hell! For the fuck of it, let’s throw in some more fiber making things like mollusk-coral or cat-(Greenland) shark “hair” or sea feathers/crinoids (yes, I’m keeping that the same bc they’re special bois).
I’m gonna have so much fun with this my fics. Holy shit. I can’t believe I haven’t seen more ppl try to look into this. I, for one, have always wondered.
…. And I’ve always wondered why the Tribespeople don’t have brown eyes. Like it’s cute that the usually waterbending ppl who live with glaciers have blue eyes, but don’t we all know that that HURTS like shit in the reflecting snow and ice? I don’t have blue eyes but man did my genes hate me so I know how it feels. Just saying….

It's me again, thanks for following, didn't notice it first because bots being bots but it's appreciated. I thought the link was attached to the first one bet yeah this is the post.
I know I’m getting an influx of bots too lol!
Hm I think this could make an interesting fic or “what if” scenario! Katara & Sokka learning the truth maybe when they run into Bato & he assumes they already know or decides to share the truth has a lot of angst potential. I don’t know about this as a theory because Katara seems to know exactly what happened to her mother & why & it’s never implied that Sokka didn’t know. But I do like it as a “what if.”
Especially because imagine how much more angst this would add for the water family when they reunite. If Hakoda had kept something so important from the siblings it would add an extra layer of tension 😭

So while rewatching Avatar: The Last Airbender recently, I noticed a trend
A number of spirits we see have an animal form, specifically animals we recognize as "normal" for us. For example:
- Wan Shi Tong is an owl and his knowledge seekers are foxes
- Tui and La are koi fish
- Hei Bai is a panda
-The guardian of the mother of faces is a wolf (The Search)
Heck there's even the talking Baboon spirit and the monkey missing its face that we see in the Spirit World at the end of Season 1.
Basically every time we've seen a "normal" animal, they've been a spirit.
My point? I argue that Bosco is a spirit bear that's chilling and living the good life in the mortal world just because he can.

AU where the first time Zuko fights Aang on the ship when the Avatar's escaping, Aang accidentally energy bends Zuko.
Zuko is no longer a Fire Bender.
Zuko is now an Air Bender.
Zuko is also Freaking The Fuck Out, and so is Aang.
"Change it back, change it back!"
"I don't know how! I don't know what I did!"
"Then learn! Fix this!"
Meanwhile, Iroh is internally screaming because yeah, this is a death sentence for his nephew.
Sokka and Katara are just. Hanging out. Staring at each other and then the crew.
Everyone's confused. The crew just...slowly edging away to get back to steering the ship and laze around and stuff.
Katara knows it's a weird Avatar thing Aang did.
Sokka has now formulated a conspiracy theory that Zuko was only pretending to bend Fire the entire time.

Reasons why do I think Zuko is a walking green flag (according to what I have noticed within the show):
Tumblr media
1. Always feels guilty after doing something that contradicts his principles.
2. Listens to his uncle despite the differences and always turns to him whenever the time calls.
3. Never ever harms the children unlike many of other fire nation soldiers and generals.
4. Lets Uncle Iroh play Pai Sho.
5. Keeps his trauma inside his heart, and even when gets provoked is extremely worried about troubling others with his inner conflicts.
6. Is a fine listener.
7. Lets Appa free and earns Appa’s trust.
8. Doesn’t feel ashamed in working at a tea shop despite being the heir to the fire nation’s throne.
9. Cares for Azula despite her wrongdoings.
10. Is ready to apologize for his faults.
11. Never forgets his duty toward Mai despite his suffering.
12. Is even ready to breakup with Mai to save her.
13. Is an extremely loyal and encouraging friend.
14. Doesn’t hesitate a bit to stand with the right, even if it means challenging his own father or sister.
15. Loves Uncle Iroh so much.
16. Never forgets his mother even after years.
17. Makes sure that the fire nation finds a new way of fuelling their bending other than anger.
18. Preserves the lineage of the dragons and honours them.
19. Hard outside, kind inside.
20. Puts himself at a risk by using fire bending to light up the fountain in Ba Sing Se in the days of wartime asylum just to make Jin happy.
21. Has a very empathetic nature and votes against fire nation waging a war on others in the council of the firelord himself.
22. Is determined to accomplish his goal whether it’s catching the avatar or saving the world.
23. Never tolerates bullying.
24. Is a fine swordsman.
25. Is hot with a hotter voice (thank you Dante Bosco for being the perfect Zuko) and a freaking cute smile.

I think that if Zukka were to actually work, they’d have to get together a year or so after the end of the war. While I love the idea of them finding eachother pretty soon after, or perhaps even before the end of the war, both of them would have way too much baggage to make a healthy relationship work. I think they’d both need a little while to heal before they could navigate the complications that each other brings.
Both of them don’t exactly excel in expressing their needs or emotions, and with the added weight of years of unresolved trauma in the mix… things would not end up well.

Okay, so I had a thought (and I'm about 300% sure I'm not the first one, but I was too lazy to check, I also don't know if canon has adressed this already):
When Wan Shi Tong was dragging the library into the Sprit World, how was Toph able to hold it?
Because Toph learned from the badgermoles.
Let's back up a little. The Ocean and The Moon are explicitly spirits. Fang, Roku's dragon, is able to traverse the Spirit World (and on the Solstice, even the physical world) freely, even though Roku isn't. Appa is spiritually connected to Aang and able to perceive it (with help) and follow the connection to Ba Sing Se.
I think all of the original benders are either spirits, or animals that crossed over from the Spirit World. And all of the bending styles we've seen have distanced themselves from the original sources of bending - even Airbending, because Aang and the historical benders don't fly freely, like Appa. Firebending is fueled by rage, that's explicitly stated, I don't have anything good for Waterbending so the source is firmly trust me bro, and in Earthbending, Toph's moves are based on a different martial arts style (Zhujia/Chugar family kung fu rather than the Hung Gar style used by other earthbenders*) than the other earthbenders we see - there is explicitly something different about learning from the original source. I also think all of the original benders, when crossing over, used their bending to anchor themselves into the physical world. For dragons, fire was life and the sun, for Tui and La, their eternal dance was their life and power, etc.
That's a long paragraph to say that no other earthbender could have held up the library. Toph learned her bending from the badgermoles, not as a fighting style, but as a way of interacting with the environment - the same way they do. I don't think she's necessarily aware of it, but I think that, because badgermoles are spirits that crossed over a long time ago, as Toph learned, she also unconsciously learned a style of bending that is much more spiritual than human-taught bending.
This also weaves nicely into the show's themes of destiny. Aang was destined to find Toph (he saw her in a vision, after all), and Toph was destined to teach Aang. But not only that, Toph was the only person who could have held up the library. She wasn't just holding up a big rock. She anchored it into our world.
And I think that's beautiful.
*BUT NOT WING CHUN THO THAT INFORMATION WAS LITERALLY ONE GOOGLE SEARCH AWAY ALL THIS TIME I THOUGHT IT WAS WING CHUN I SWEAR I HEARD IT SOMEWHERE AND INCORPORATED IT INTO MY BELIEF SYSTEM FOREVER thank you dear person in the tags i don't know if it's polite to @ you considering it was in the tags but thank you srs

this makes no sense as i type this out, but firebending fucks with my imagination.
everyone thinks about bloodbending, drawing air from the lungs and even earthbending with bones, but the body temperature. what's stopping a firebender from simply heating the core temperature so high that you kill someone through a fever? imagine the assassin potential.

Left-handed Katara
The second part of this post - animated this time. It started as a sub-theory, but with time more evidence appeared.
So, basically, the suggestion was that Katara was born left-handed, but was taught to use her right hand, - based on her habit to use left hand for waterbending before she got any proper teaching. I know I can be wrong, but there are some things this idea came from.
I cannot make gifs so I borrowed them from this hashtag from this blog if not stated otherwise.
So, in the very first episode, we see Katara trying to waterbend the fish out of the ocean. She starts with her left hand, then uses both, maybe because she doesn't feel very confident here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the next episode she's bending again, trying to freeze the attackers. She uses both hands, but the strike comes from her left - both times.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In "The Warriors of Kyoshi" all her bending is done with her left hand - practicing, escaping from unagi, getting water from Aang's lungs (the last two are from here).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this episode she also sews Sokka's pants, holding a needle in her left hand.
Now, let's look at Katara trying to perform the water whip from the waterbending scroll. During her very first attempt, she strikes with her left hand (this gif is from here) - compare to Aang performing this correctly with his right hand (gif from here).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the second attempt Katara switches to the right hand, although the water follows the movements of her left one, hitting Momo behind her - I could not find a gif for this moment, so I had to ask the more creative co-author to make it.
Tumblr media
And her first succesfull attempt is also left-handed.
Tumblr media
After "The Waterbending scroll" Katara starts using her right hand for waterbending - she never did it before, only left or both hands together. She still sometimes uses the left one alone, but much less, so I will not focuse on these examples. She was obviously taught as a right-handed waterbender, so it's only logically that since episode 9 she will mostly use her right hand.
So the last one - little Katara throws a snowball. It is not waterbending, but still: she does this the way that is most natural for her, and it is throwing with her left hand (these gifs are from here).
