Here, dear @bryverros just make me think too much about this lmao
So... Is Zuko Disney Princess coded? Let's see.
He's canonically part of a royal family, so the title is there, no marriage needed.
He has superpowers (firebending) and a particular ability his really good at (swordfighting), you know like Elsa with ice and Mérida with archery.
Another thing he has in common with Mérida is the fact he doesn't agree with his father about stuff and he doesn't know how to shut up about it (:
He got the evil parent AND the evil sister (at least Cinderella was adopted)
He talks to animals (yk the frog thing), animals trust him too (Appa), and he got a magical pet (Ruk).
He had an incredible glow up.
Let's say that Iroh is his fairy godmother, gives him good advice, helps him prepare for his dates and always reminds him that he is a prince even at his lowest.
He is fighting for his honor (I mean, if you told the guy he would get back his honor going to the matchmaker, he would've been first in line, doing way better than Mulan with the tea thing)
He would cry looking at his reflection while this verse sounds in the background "If I wear a mask, I can fool the world, but I cannot fool my heart".
Being Lee for a month show him that he was meant to fulfil his role as a part of the royal family (customer service/domestic work does that to people)
He got a love interest that fell for him with zero knowledge about who he was: his title or his past or real identity, so if you want to eat up the classic Disney princess romance. There you go.
He goes through the tantrums, emotional rollercoasters and "the world hates me" moments like a pro.
The change of heart moment happens to him as it happens to most disney princess, and it defines his destiny. So point checked.
He went into a life changing adventure with the first cute and friendly guy that stood in front of him (I'm not even explaining more about this).
He gets the throne at the end of the show (in this point we only got Elsa, and I'm sure Zuko also considered moving to the forest after being Fire Lord for a year, but his sister wasn't as reliable as Anna).
His canon love interest is a childhood love that ended up saving his life and that's so princess coded that there's no need to give an example, it just makes sense.
I think there are things I'm not addressing, but for now this is enough to conclude that... yeah, he is sooo princess coded.

People calling Katara toxic, or a toxic sister really doesn't sit right with me.
"Oh but she said to sokka 'you didn't love her the way I did' she was out of line and it was a toxic thing to say about their mother"
Homegirl was 14 years old when she said this, in an emotionally charged scene where she was obviously still grieving her mother. Yes, what she said wasn't right, but have you never said something you regret, or didn't mean? This girl felt responsible for her mother's death, where she was protecting her, the last waterbender, so she's bound to have emotional turmoil when it comes to that. Maybe she meant it in terms of loss, sokka didn't have to deal with this guilt that worms its way through Katara, he wasn't responsible.
So, yeah, telling your brother he didn't love your mom the same way you did is a horrible thing to say, but in the context of the scene, the show and taking into account this is a 14 year old girl who's had to grow up with the guilt that she was the reason her mother died, maybe, just maybe, you can see why.
I don't know what peoples obsessions with labelling people as toxic is, but it has to stop. you're not toxic for saying something bad. You're not toxic for grieving. You're not toxic for feeling pain and you're certainly not toxic for being 14 years old.
and FYI, she does not talk about her mother too much. y'all need to get over yourselves

Friends, Goths,Problem children, and Losers ,
Has Nobody considered the modern 2000’s Avatar would be fire nation?
Here me out : Air, Water , Earth , Fire Long ago all four elements lived together in harmony
That balance was lost when corporations started working together to manipulate the rulers of all four nations and the councilors of Republic city to keep throwing nature out of balance for their own gain,
And Only the Avatar Master of all four elements can restore balance
Fire Nation Avatar ventures into the spirit world to create the Ultimate team Avatar of the companions and friends of previous team Avatars….
Her first stop is two older men… One knows the Avatar better than anyone else and the other knows how to restore Balance to even the most dire of situations.*She bows politely.* “Lord Zuko I am afraid I must ask you for your help…. Once again. For the two previous Avatars the connection to previous Avatars was severed… Two generations ago you had to hunt one Avatar to restore your honor… I as one of your descendants need to hunt them all to restore the Avatar state connection and restore my honor by restoring balance to the world…. And in so doing preventing the planet from dying completely…. Can I count on your support to hunt the Avatars one last time?”
Modern Avatar invents Wifi bending from lightening bending creating a new form of hacking
She then turns to General Iroh (The first.) “Help me restore balance please and When Ive found the people who complete this Ultimate team Avatar we will meet at the gates of the spirit world… and we will begin looking for how to restore the avatar state and restore balance…
Her Twin brother is the current Firelord… when he started listening to his advisors he Exiled his sister a move that literally divided the fire nation in twoas half followed her and the other half remained loyal to the firelord. The half that went with her became the Electric Nation and both Nations were divided by the Firewall.
And the first wifi bender becomes the first Memelord of the electricity nation….

I know the most emotional tale in Avatar Last Airbender tends to be Iroh's tale, especially because it's in honor and memory of his original VA, Mako! Iroh's my favorite character hands down. Toph too!
So, a scene I think about A LOT and get emotional to in ATLA is Katara & Toph's tale in Ba Sing Se. Specifically, after when Katara and Toph go to the spa and get their well-deserved break! They treat themselves to an awesome makeover and feel pretty. What's heartbreaking is that within 20 seconds (I counted) of them walking out of the spa and mentioning how they feel girly and good about themselves, they encounter a group of bullies who say, "Nice makeup", to which Toph thanks them, and they follow with, "... for a clown!" 20. SECONDS. They only had 20 seconds outside where they felt pretty, to be put down soon after. This results in Toph and Katara getting revenge and having a nice bonding moment afterwards.
It just bothers me and actually makes me cry every time I watch it. I know that's weird to admit, but bullying someone, especially a badass blind/disabled person, and making them not feel pretty when they were feeling pretty about themselves... just hurts really badly. I also know it's fiction, but it seems incredibly telling of a society we are when open-handed comments like that are thrown about carelessly, without ANY consideration of how the receiving end would feel, and how it would ultimately and potentially affect their entire day. Toph knows who she is deep down, the strongest bender around, and I think we all know who we are deep down to an extent, so it just sucks when people assume things about you and put their energy into putting you down unnecessarily. Be kind, have empathy! It's not hard! Women as a whole deserve to feel pretty about themselves and feel safe. We need to stop putting each other down.
I tear up the moment Toph has a tear fall from her face, because it's a sharpened painful tear from a lifetime of emotional burden. You can tell it really hurt. I'm gonna be there like Katara is for Toph, for all my friends and loved ones, always.
If anyone ever put you down for your appearance, how you dress, how you present yourself in any way, or for your disability/race/orientation, know for a fact that you're beautiful. Don't let any carelessly thrown about remark define you.

ive been rewatching atla recently (again) and goddd this series is just banger after banger after banger… so here are some of my thoughts:
“The Storm” and “The Blue Spirit” being back-to-back is insaaaneeeeeeee omg.. absolute peak
Any attempt at recreating Zuko’s scar in a live action so far is just way too fucking chill like?? Im sorry did anyone see the extent of the scarring?? His ear? His hair? Like be serious..
Why was the boulder kinda 💅🏻 and why did i not remember that
The worldbuilding is insane and I’m obsessed with the map (I usually dont gaf about maps in media soooorrryyy im a character > world girly, but here… ooh yes!!)
Appa and Momo are SUCH ghibli creatures i love them
I love a good mid-season finale… can we go back to shows having 20-24 episodes per season pleeeaaaaaseeee
Sokka is the canon “fandom bicycle”, while Zuko is the fanon one
Katara is so underrated I love her!!! My social justice warrior angry queen - I am just like you bestie and you were ahead of your time <3
They said “yapping” in “The Desert” lol
Can’t wait for Ba Sing Se
AANG IS SO NON-BINARY TO ME

Okay 5 things about ATLA now that I’ve finished it.
1. Bc of some brief comments I saw online, I was under the impression that Iroh was going to die at some point?? Like literally thought he was gonna be killed off in season 2 or something. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad he didn’t, but I’m mad I was waiting around in anticipation for that moment asjdbsk.
2. I’m pissed that Katara didn’t use bloodbending to take down Azula. Ever since she learned bloodbending, I assumed that’s what was going to get Azula in the end. Tbh, I would’ve much rather had Azula been in her right mind and got taken down by bloodbending rather than her fall off the rocker and get taken down with waterbending. I mean, Azula was such a force to be reckoned with, I genuinely think it would’ve been cooler if bloodbending was a complete last resort to stop her, especially since she was so controlling via fear, and bloodbending would’ve taken control from her 100% and instilled fear in her the way she instilled fear in everyone else.
3. Aang/Katara endgame was unnecessary and also just strange since it mentioned how Katara was motherly to the whole group. Plus Aang’s age and all and yeaaah. No thanks.
4. Zuko and Iroh absolutely were some of the best characters of the show with one of the best relationships. Their reunion was fantastic. Also, that short story we got of Iroh celebrating his dead son’s bday and singing/crying was so good.
5. Zuko’s ponytail look from season 1 is superior in every way, but showing different stages of Zuko’s character progression through the hair changes was a nice touch. And they did the hair thing with other characters as well so 👌🏻.

Today's random thought is about how Zuko didn't have any friends on his own growing up, like all his friends were his sister's friends and I'm not counting family members because it doesn't make it better when you're like, eight.
Just picture it, little Zuko talking to the turtleducks, because there was no one else to talk to. It just makes sense he ended up talking to a frog.

How tf did Netflix ATLA make the show sexist by, “removing the sexism.”
😭😭😭
What is with the Suki/Sokka romance? Why is Suki immediately down for him? Immediately when she started liking him after he got humbled?
Where’s Katara’s feminist rant opening Aang? Like we miss the symbolism of Katara’s fight against sexism and for equality opening the possibility for balance in the world as a whole. Why does Katara kinda suck?
Why did Azula have her hair down for her intro? She’s never shown with her hair down except in the scene where Zuko wakes her up asking why she said he killed the avatar and in the final where she’s losing her cool. A big part of Azula is her being calm, cool, and collected. Never having a hair out of place.
Why is Azula seeming to imply she’s jealous of Zuko and resents her father for keeping her in the Fire Nation? Azula is the golden child and she’s desperately fighting to be anything but Zuko. She can’t be, “like Zuko.”
Where’s the Pippinpaddleopsicopolis scheme?
Why does Appa look like his, “Lost Days,” self all the time? Appa looks fuckin HAGGARD. Appa looks like he’s been on a hell of a meth bender.
Why does Zuko sound like he’s about to cry half of the time? Zuko was a grouchy hothead, not a spoiled brat?
Why is Aang’s staff a dowel rod with a brown cube? Why does he use it to fly like once?
Why did they do Gyatso dirty? He took out like 100 firebenders, he certainly didn’t get doodooed on by 5 unnamed firebenders.
Why are they in Omashu before the Northern Water Tribe?
Why does Zuko still have two eyebrows? That scar side one should be gone.
Why is Teo straight up homicidal? Mood, but gahhdamn.
The effects are pretty good, the fighting is cool, the casting was amazing, the acting could have been better, Cabbage Man slayed as per usu, some of the changes they made really did make sense and work but there were quite a few that just didn’t.
The final product is giving, “Really Good Student Project.”
Jett is FOIN FINE tho so there’s that.
I’m on episode 4 so there’s still more time; perhaps it’ll get better.

I have a theory about the song Iroh sings when begging on the streets, and its making me appreciate this show even more. And we know how much depth the show has already. Sooo:
“It’s a long long way to Ba Sing Se…”
Guys. Its a refugee song. What if it was sung by people fleeing to the city of Ba Sing Se for refuge. Imagine them singing to lift spirits because yes, it would be a great distance to travel. Men, women, children of all nations, all hungry and tired and hope waning.
And I imagine there are more verses than what we hear Iroh singing too, not just about pretty girls.
And Iroh likely heard it during his attempted siege.

just thinking about how aang, a 12 yr old child, essentially without his own conscious knowledge or consent, and only when it was obvious there was no hope of anything else working & everyone he loved would die if he the avatar didn't do something, took the form of a gigantic water spirit and destroyed an entire navy fleet - killing every soldier on those ships, killing their commander - while disassociated from everything he was doing
and then, in the very next episode, after we see that he is, obviously, having ptsd nightmares of the experience, the next grown-up he meets non-consensually makes him do it again by making him believe, once again, that his loved ones would die if he the avatar didn't intervene.

Ozai not only treated Zuko badly to hurt Zuko, but also to hurt Ursa. Maybe that's the reason why Ursa was always so fond of Zuko. She wanted to protect him
