The laboratory was silent save for the sounds of you and Jayce tinkering. Viktor was nowhere to be found, having left a few minutes earlier and said something about getting more coffee. It was late into the night, but you wanted to get your invention completed. And you were going to get it done tonight.

Jayce was working on the Atlas Gauntlets. You were working on your Hexlight. A new invention that was a mobile light source meant to help miners and workers in the Undercity to illuminate their way into the dangerous caverns.

“Will you hand me that wrench over there?” Jayce broke the silence, and you nodded, wordlessly handing the tool to your friend. He was more of a brother to you at this point, you having put your meager life savings into helping get Hextech off the ground. You were also a co-inventor. You had a knack for inventions and worked as a third set of eyes for both Viktor’s and Jayce’s works.

After a few more moments of working, Viktor still hadn’t come back. At this, you frowned. Where was he?

“Hey, do you know where Viktor is?” You asked, and Jayce stopped what he was doing, sitting back in his chair as he mulled over your question.

“No, do you need something from him?” He asked, and you shrugged,

“Just wondering what’s taking him so long, is all.” You replied and turned back to your work. You heard Jayce let out a quiet laugh. It sounded odd, so you looked over. He had a teasing grin on his lips, and you narrowed your eyes. What was he planning?

“When were you going to tell me you were in love with Viktor?” He asked abruptly, and you choked on your saliva. After your coughing fit had subsided, you glared at him.

“Where did that come from?!” You demanded, and he shrugged, holding his hands out in a ‘who knows?’ gesture.

“You aren’t denying it.” Was all he said. You sputtered and tried to deny his statement, but nothing came out—because it would be a lie to refute that claim. As brilliant as Viktor was, you hoped he never picked up on your affections. He would never reciprocate anyway. He wasn’t stupid enough to.

His teasing smile turned smug.

“So you are in love with him!” He exclaimed, and you immediately shushed him. If Viktor was near, you didn’t want him to hear. That would only bring rejection and embarrassment. Or worse, you’d be kicked out of Hextech completely for your stupidity.

“Shut up!” You hissed and very nearly launched yourself across the space between you two in order to quiet the man when he let out a triumphant laugh.

“I knew it! He loves you too, you know.” Your world stopped. Did he truly? No. That couldn’t be possible. He would never. You shook your head, voice trembling when you spoke next.

“That’s cruel.” You said, tears welling up in your eyes. Jayce looked taken aback and scrambled with his following words.

“It’s true! He really does!” He exclaimed in an attempt to get you to calm down.

Your temper abruptly flared. Typically it was something you prided yourself in keeping under control. But all emotions and control went out the window when it came to Viktor.

How could he joke about something like that?

You asked him as much, and he continued to clamber and stumble with his words.

“I swear I’m not lying! You are the one who loves Viktor!” He said, and you exploded.

“Yes, I am! I never denied it! But whoever said he loved me back? He's Viktor. He doesn't go around falling in love with people! And if you think he's anything that small, or that ordinary, then you haven't the first idea of your best friend!” You exclaimed, a single tear streaking your cheek as your temper raged and toiled. You could feel your cheeks burning in embarrassment as Jayce spoke again, digging himself into a deeper and deeper hole.

“Let’s just wait for him to get back. He can explain—”

“There’s no point! He doesn’t love me!” You cut him off, jabbing a finger towards the door.

“Heaven knows where he is right now, but I promise you, he's doing whatever the hell he wants and not giving a damn about me! And I'm just fine with that!” Tears came faster now, dripping from your chin as you angrily wiped them away. You continued, “When you love Viktor, it's like loving the stars themselves! You don't expect a sunset to admire you back! And even if he was in here, let me tell you, Viktor is not stupid enough or sentimental enough, and he is certainly not in love enough to find himself accepting my feelings!”

“Do you mean all of that?” Came a familiar voice, and you whirled to see Viktor standing in the laboratory doorway, eyes as wide as your own. His hand holding the coffee mug was trembling, and you sniffled, shame making even more tears well up and drip down your face. In the corner of your eye, you noticed Jayce excusing himself and shutting the door behind him, effectively leaving you and Viktor alone.

He shuffled closer, his crutch thumping softly on the ground as he made his way to the table and set the mug down. Then, slowly, he turned to you. His eyes looked sad. He probably pitied you at this point. Pitied the poor you who had fallen in love with him, the person so far below him.

Viktor approached you hesitantly before reaching into his pocket and pulling out a handkerchief. You accepted it with a quiet ‘thank you’ and wiped your eyes. Your cheeks felt raw from your angry wiping.

“So…” He began, and you turned your head away, looking at your shoes instead of his beautiful amber eyes. Here it comes—his rejection. Your humiliation.

“Did you mean what you said?” His voice was quiet, little more than a whisper. You nodded your head, your voice just as soft as you spoke.

“Of course I did. Who wouldn’t love you?” He scoffed, and your head jerked up to look at him, confusion overtaking the self-deprecation briefly. He was looking at his right leg, his bad leg, in disdain.

“Isn’t it obvious? Why would you love someone like me? I’m crippled and—”

“I don’t care about that.” Your words rushed out like a tidal wave in an attempt to stop his contempt. How could he hate himself like that? He looked at you, eyes beginning to glimmer with hope.

Hope?

Hope for what?

That didn’t matter now. You had to reassure him, had to make him see. Humiliation was the last thing on your mind now.

“You are brilliant and important and beautiful and oh so kind. I don’t care that you can’t do things other people can. All I care about is you, Viktor. Everything about you.” Voice wobbling, hands clenched, you only hoped he understood what you were feeling.

So you were surprised when he had tears of his own well up in his eyes. His hand began to tremble again, and he hobbled forward a step or two.

“You think I’m important?” He sounded like a scared little boy, and it broke your heart. You offered a watery smile,

“In all my time alive, I’ve never met anyone who wasn’t important.”

Finally, he stood toe to toe with you, looking into your eyes as if searching for any deceit. He searched your gaze as you searched his, eyes flitting to make sure he wouldn’t begin laughing in your face. Wouldn’t start laughing and cast you out.

All you found was honesty.

Honesty and love.

Love?

With a tentative hand, you reached and placed it on his cheek. He reached up with his free hand and put it over yours, cradling it to his jawline. Warm fuzzies began to flutter in your stomach. Was he—?

“I—” He paused as if trying to find the words. After a moment, he steeled himself, squaring his shoulders but never letting your hand fall away. “I care for you… deeply. It’s like looking at the stars when I look at you. If you look at one long enough, all the others will melt away. That is what I feel when I look at you.” He said and leaned his forehead onto yours.

You couldn’t breathe, heart stuttering in your chest as you processed his words. He cared. You could even say he loved you.

You loved him, and he loved you.

That sounded nice. Having someone to love.

hello bff w atla degree! sorry i have to ask u this because youre the only atla mutual i have or well the only one reallyy invested at least. but i was wondering if u have read the kyoshi books and if u recommend them?

hey bestie ❤️ i own the kyoshi books + the yangchen one as well. i haven’t finished the kyoshi books all throughout (there’s only two at the moment, the rise of kyoshi and the shadow of kyoshi) but i do know enough to form an opinion. it’s decently written, with understandable prose, and provides a very rich history leading up to avatar the last airbender and the legend of korra.

it doesn’t shy away from any necessary dark content. as dark as korra got, fc yee’s kyoshi novels are even less shy in its depictions of powerful, aggressive bending and what life got like in the space kyoshi occupied. it’s nothing edgy nor brutal just to be brutal. i find the depiction of inter-ethnic/inter-national relations pre-sozin’s comet to be realistic given the vast world of avatar and possible scenarios for mobility between nations. if you had a problem with the seemingly rigid ethnic borders between the four nations in atla or even tlok, this one breaks a bit. also, if you’re interested in the culture of pre-sozin’s comet avatar (in particular, kyoshi island before it became an island), then you’ll enjoy the first book. air nomads also get a feature and i love how yee deals with their collective culture vs their individual morals and ideals. it’s a diverse image that might remind you of korra book 3 when there were more airbenders than ever rather than all of atla, the latter having only aang as an airbender with his child’s recollections of his people’s character. now there is more room to have spiritual and not-so spiritual air nomads, devout and not-so devout air nomads.

as for personal relations between characters, you can definitely tell we live in a post-korrasami world. i don’t and never will resent the team behind tlok for how very subtle they dealt with relationships like korrasami and i definitely don’t resent fc yee for the much freer rein he has now after bryke picked on those walls for bisexual female characters on american cartoons. on top of the romance, the kyoshi novels also follow the tradition of Team Avatar with plenty of likable friendships— and villains. it’s a very tense, exciting, and enlightening series for anyone who wants to learn more about the world and the avatars before aang. be prepared to challenge the preconceived notions this fandom has on kyoshi and kuruk in particular. 💚🪨

Avatar Studios projects

This is mainly for me to keep track.

There are currently some Avatar Studios affiliated projects that are either out or on the verge or coming out. These are: Avatar Legends TTRPG, Avatar Legends Minecraft DLC, and Avatar Generations mobile game (not yet released). Avatar Legends TTRPG This game has been shipped off to most kickstarter backers. Magpie Games announced there was going to be both a Republic City expansion (coming summer 2023 announced in 2022 NYCC) and a Spirit World expansion coming at a later date. Avatar Legends Minecraft DLC

This game is already out. From what I could tell, you play as the next Avatar after Korra (you select the element you want). You fight a variety of characters from both shows, collect items (I think), and go through stages based on the shows. In the end, you are able to go back to air temple island and fight the last 4 avatars (Kyoshi, Roku, Aang and Korra) when you go to their statues. Avatar Generations

This game isn't out yet, but it sounds like you can only play the ATLA-related levels when the game first comes out. At some point, they will eventually expand to include other avatar eras like Kyoshi, Korra, Roku as well as supposedly "never-before-seen avatars". Animated film/tv There are three animated movies that have been announced. We only officially know that the first movie will be about Aang and comes out Oct. 10, 2025. Not officially announced, but the Paramount CEO did mention in an interview in 2021 that the Avatar creators "[were] well on their way in development on a series of CG films and a new Avatar series." There was nothing about when this series will come out or what it's about yet. I should note that the creators later went on a podcast interview and said that the films were not going to be CG only so some things are subject to change. I'll probably summarize the podcast later because the creators did talk a bit on their future plans for the franchise. Comics Patterns in Time was the first Korra comic that had Avatar Studios listed on the inside. Lastly, it looks like LOK will be getting a trilogy of one-shots from Darkhorse (announced 2022 SDCC), with the first one focusing on Mako (announced NYCC 2022) that's supposed to come out sometime in 2023 after the Azula comic.

Exclusive: White Lotus-focused ATLA RPG Quest for Balance with Breath of the Wild art style coming to PS4/5, Xbox, Switch, and PC November 8th— and we’ve seen gameplay footage

Earlier this week, a new Avatar game seemingly leaked out of nowhere. Listings for a console game called “Avatar The Last Airbender: Quest for Balance” suddenly popped up on Amazon Japan and a few other obscure places. There were zero details, but it was enough for big gaming media to pick it up and report on the mysterious potential leak based on its potential existence alone.

Of course, if you follow Avatar News, you already knew from one of our previous exclusive reports that an ATLA console RPG was coming “much sooner than you think”. Could these be the same thing?

I held off on reporting on this until I could get my sources to confirm, and now I’m back with more than I could have dreamed of...

Avatar News can exclusively confirm that Quest for Balance is indeed real and on its way to you this November 8th, from Paramount and its subsidiary Avatar Studios, and Game Mill.

But that’s not all. We were shown gameplay stills and footage and given a rundown of the game’s story.

Visually, Quest for Balance looks straight out of the iconic Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, with that cel-shaded art style that has garnered so much praise to this day. Even the soft-but-epic fantasy lighting looks the same-- it’s basically the world of Avatar shown through that lens.

The gameplay however is not like BOTW-- right off the bat, I want to make it clear that Quest for Balance isn’t open world.

The framing story of the game is that, set after the end of the animated series, members of the Order of the White Lotus have gotten together for a game of Pai Sho, and start telling old war stories to each other. They tell the events of the end of the Hundred Year War-- the events of the Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series, with Pakku covering Book One: Water, Bumi covering Book Two: Earth, and Iroh covering Book Three: Fire. You as the player play through these stories from the start to the end of ATLA. However, their memories aren’t foolproof, so you end up playing through alternate histories different from what happened in the show. It’s kind of like Avatar’s What If...? Some of these are more serious while some are more humorous.

The only playable character I personally saw in the small bits and pieces I was shown was Aang, but from what I understand there should be a bunch more for all the different stories.

This story system is why the game is prefixed with “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and not “Avatar”. The recently revealed, and aptly-titled, mobile RPG Avatar: Generations will evolve to cover different eras like Kyoshi, Roku, Aang, and Korra, while Quest for Balance is a big one-and-done console release specifically covering ATLA.

🌸Yae Miko Guide🌸

UPDATED FOR 3.0

It’s been awhile since I’ve done one of these but I obviously gotta do one for my main Ms. Miko!! The Guuji of the Grand Narukami Shrine, Chief Editor and owner of the Yae Publishing House, the Divine Kitsune Youkai…. and the reason my credit card is maxed out. Yae Miko is an icon, she’s a legend and she is the moment!

If you’re looking to build our favorite smug fox lady Miko, then hopefully this guide will get you in the right direction!

Role & Gameplay

Yae Miko is a DPS oriented character who specializes in dealing off field damage with her Elemental Skill and on field damage with her Elemental Burst. In many ways, she plays a bit similarly to Albedo and Fischl, although her rotations are a bit different. She can fulfill both main and sub DPS roles and can even work as a support if needed.

Strengths

The front of Miko’s damage comes from her Elemental Skill, which deals consistent passive damage. Yae Miko’s Elemental Skill is especially effective at dealing with mobile and airborne targets such as Specters and Hydro Mimics. In the overworld Yae Miko is great for taking care of targets from a distance without needing to engage in physical combat. No more pesky Hilichurls on towers giving you trouble!

Weaknesses

Yae Miko is an especially frail character, and her playstyle, like many catalyst characters, can be a bit difficult to master. Due to extremely low defense and HP stats combined with no i-frames on her skill cast, its easy for Yae Miko to take damage and it doesn’t take much damage to take her out. I recommend looking into animation canceling on her skill casts or pairing her with a strong shielder like Zhongli or Diona for the smoothest gameplay experience. Positioning and timing is also very important when playing Miko. Knowing when and where to place her towers and when to swap her out is vital to her team rotations and survivability.

Lastly at c0 Yae Miko’s damage isn’t especially high. This is very true without her signature weapon as well. Make no mistake, c0 Yae Miko is still a great unit and can deal consistent damage even as a main DPS. But I wouldn’t expect her turrets to deal more than 10-12k without some major outside buffs. Her burst however is still a total nuke even at c0, so don’t let this deter you from using her!!

Constellations

Yae Miko’s constellations are mostly all associated with buffing her Elemental Skill damage. She is a perfectly viable unit at c0, although her c1 is very useful QoL for Energy Recharge purposes and c2 is quite the upgrade in turret damage/range. Her C6 is absolutely broken but is by no means required to get good performance out of her.

If you’re f2p her c1 is as much as I’d recommend pulling, assuming there are no other characters you’re saving for. For dolphins and light spenders her c2 is a substantial DPS increase and the increased range on her turrets it’s very noticeable. Beyond c2 I’d recommend trying for her weapon, Kagura’s Verity, before going for anymore constellations.

Weapons

Yae Miko has a good range of weapons to choose from, and many can work with her depending on the overall build.

It goes without saying that her signature weapon, Kagura’s Verity, is BiS. KV provides both skill dmg and elemental dmg bonuses at 100% uptime. Of course, wish on the weapon banner with caution.

Skyward Atlas and Widsith are her two best non-limited weapons. Atlas for its high Attack and Widsith for its Crit Dmg stat, both have useful passives as well. The math is still out on these two but the general consensus is they are pretty equal depending on refine level and artifacts. Go with whichever one gives you best Atk to Crit Ratio.

Memory of Dust and Lost Prayers are okay options but don’t synergize well with her kit. LP requires the character to remain on field to keep the passive buff and similarly MoD requires the character to use auto attacks to gain stacks. If used with a shielder, MoD isn’t half bad as long as you remember to weave autos into her rotations. I do not recommend LP though unless you have no other source of Crit Rate and none of the other weapons listed here. Solar Pearl is generally better than Lost Prayers should you need more crit rate.

Oathsworn Eye is an event limited weapon from ver 2.5 and it makes a great f2p option for Yae Miko if you have it. It provides additional Atk% and over 40% Energy Recharge at refinement level 5. This is very useful for Miko as her burst costs 90 energy to fuel and basically allows you to forego ER on her artifacts.

Mappa Mare and Hakushin Ring are solid f2p options as well, Mare for overall damage and Ring for the ER, though it’s passive can be a little hard to trigger sometimes. Use either of these weapons if you have nothing else.

Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers is purely a supportive option. Don’t use it for DPS.

Artifacts

*As always I do not recommend farming for artifacts prior to AR45!!*

UPDATE: The New Artifact Set (4pc) Gilded Dreams is a fantastic option. It’s not necessarily better or worse than the other options listed, it ultimately comes down to sub stats. But it does allow you to focus more on Atk% and Crit stats in the subs over EM. It’s also resin efficient especially if you plan on building Dendro characters. 4pc Thundering also gains viability with Aggravate being added to its passive.

Which set/combo you should go with completely depends on the sub stats. Go with whatever gives you the closest to 2k+ attack, 70/200 Crit ratio, 120-160 ER depending on constellation level, weapon, team comp etc and ~100-300 EM.

I personally recommend farming the Shimenawa/Emblem domain and using Gladiator strong boxes. You can combine these pieces for Yae Miko and several other characters use emblem pieces as well so it’s a safe use of resin.

Main Stats

Sands - Atk% / Elemental Mastery

Goblet - Electro Dmg Bonus

Circlet - Crit Rate or Crit Dmg

Note: Atk% is generally recommended over EM on the sands unless your EM sands in particular just has better stats. If you’re not running a Quicken team then Atk% is absolutely better.

Sub Stat Priority

Crit Rate = Crit Dmg > Atk% > Elemental Mastery > Energy Recharge > Atk

Support Build

Should you need a more supportive Miko you can definitely make it work. It’s not her preferred role but due to Tenacity artifact set and Thrilling Tales catalyst it can certainly work to buff your teammates attack. The stats will be the exact same as DPS build with 4pc Tenacity of the Millelith.

Team Comp

UPDATE: Most of this is still true, but with the introduction of Dendro Aggravate/Quicken comps are definitely the direction Miko is headed.

Dendro Resonance

Electro Resonance is very useful for maintaining burst uptime. Fischl, Raiden Shogun, and Kuki Shinobu are all great options here. Even Lisa can work if you don’t have Fischl!

An anemo character is able to equip 4pc Viridescent Veneerer set, allowing them to shred the resistance of whatever elements they swirl on enemies, in this case Electro. Kazuha, Venti, and Sucrose are very effective at this role. Jean and Sayu are also very good options here because they fulfill the healer role as well, should your team need one. Anemo MC is also effective if you have no one else. I don’t recommend Xiao for this role but I suppose it could work.

Healing/Shields

Yae Miko is a very mobile character when she’s on the field, but while casting her skill she is vulnerable to enemy damage so it’s important to accommodate for that in her gameplay. I recommend having a reliable healer for Miko in case of emergency situations. Shields are also useful for interruption resistance and comfortability. Kokomi, Bennett, Sayu, Zhongli, and Diona are all great options for healing / shielding. Kuki Shinobu is a great healer for Miko, provides Electro resonance, can run Tenacity set for the Atk% buff AND can run multiple supportive weapon options.

Albedo is also a fantastic team mate for Yae and he does technically act as a shielder with crystallize. He also buffs EM which in turn buffs Yae’s turrets.

It’s also worth noting that Yae Miko works well with pretty much any Hydro character.

Catalyze

The new reaction Quicken works effectively as a special aura applied to enemies. When a Quickened enemy takes electro damage it triggers Aggravate, which receives a DMG bonus similar to Vape/Melt. This significantly increases Miko’s damage output so unless you just don’t like any of the current Dendro characters it’s recommended you run this style comp.

Teams - DPS

Quicken

Yae Miko + Dendro + Electro/Dendro + Anemo VV

This is Yae Miko’s best comp for damage. It will only get better as more Dendro characters become available in the future. Tighnari has a great synergy with Miko akin to Childe x Xiangling where they enable each other on/off field, but if you don’t have Tighnari Collei and Traveler are also great! Nahida is of course an amazing option here as well if you’re rolling fit her in 3.2! Swirl Electro with your anemo character to shred resistance and apply dendro for quicken which enables Yae Miko. The last slot can be another Dendro character for the +100 EM or another Electro Character is you want better burst uptime.

Mono Electro

Yae Miko + Raiden Shogun + Kujou Sara/Kuki Shinobu + VV

 Put Simply, use this team for high electro damage and consistent burst uptime. An anemo character is recommended for VV res shred so really just use whichever character you’re most comfortable with. Should you need a healer and don’t have access to Jean or Sayu, Bennett can also work in this comp to replace Sara or you can run Kuki Shinobu once she’s out!

Taser

Yae Miko + Kokomi + Kazuha/Sucrose + Fischl

Probably the most standard type of comp for Yae Miko prior to 3.0. Kokomi is preferred here for superb hydro application and survivability. The anemo character doesn’t really matter as long as they carry 4pc VV, Kazuha (c2) and Sucrose can share EM though. Jean/Sayun can heal while Venti provides amazing ranged CC.

Geo Resonance

Yae Miko + Albedo + Raiden/Fischl + Zhongli

This team comp offers comfortability while maintaining high damage. Zhongli or at least Albedo are strongly recommend here, beyond that any geo character works really. Noelle can shield and heal, though she does require a battery of her own. Ningguang can equip TTD catalyst and at c2 is actually a decent battery. Geo MC is also a good option for their particle regeneration and crit rate buff!

Yae Miko works well with any hydro character tbh. While Kokomi is preferred for her hydro application and healing, others such as Kamisato Ayato and Mona certainly work great with Yae too. Xingqiu can work as well but keep in mind his burst only attacks when your on field character uses normal attacks! Yelan and Kuki Shinobu are unreleased as of this guide, but the two will undoubtably have great synergy with Yae Miko. Yelan is essentially a 5* Xingqiu and Shinobu is an electro healer.

Teams - Support

As a support Yae Miko can replace Fischl in most comps, with the exception of battery role. Run her with ToM artifact set and TTDS catalyst and you can pretty much slap her anywhere. Characters that come to mind with this type of build would be Eula, Tartaglia, Yoimiya, and Kamisato Ayato though there are certainly more! Yae Miko can of course pair well with Dendro characters as well, enabling them to proc Spread.

Gameplay Tips

Yae Miko’s rotation is EEEQEEE where E is her elemental skill and Q is her burst. Generally, you won’t be using Miko’s auto attacks as the scaling on them is very low. Yae can also burst every other rotation with little to no loss in DPS. EEE > Swap > EEEQEEE

The formation and placement of Yae Miko’s turrets is important to optimize their damage output. If you don’t already, get into the habit of placing her turrets in a triangular formation so that they are all connected and this teach their max level. Placing them in a straight line will often result in a Lv 2-3-2 chain.

Be careful keeping Yae on field. Ideally she’d only be on field to place her turrets and cast her burst. Otherwise it’s recommended she is kept off field where she’s safe from being OHKOed. Should you insist on making her an onfield carry I highly suggest running her with a shielder such as Zhongli.

Overview

Yae Miko is mysterious, sarcastic, and cunning. Her smug attitude and astute perception of others makes her a master strategist as well as quite the amusing character! At c0 Yae Miko is not the best DPS in the game, but she’s certainly not the worst. As the game continues to age and add a variety of new characters and play styles I have full confidence she will only get better with time. 🌸
