先日までの暑さが嘘のように、朝晩が急に冷え込んできた。つまりイネ科の花粉が猛威をふるう季節の到来ということだ。秋の訪れを待ち侘びていた人も多いとは思うけれど、僕としては新たな地獄の始まりであり、定量噴霧式気管支拡張剤メプチンエアーを手放せない日々がしばらく続くことになる。幼少期から悩まされている喘息発作、子どもの頃はこの苦しさが続くくらいなら死んだほうがマシやと心のどこかでずっと思っていた。小児喘息に虚弱体質、運動場や体育館で貧血を起こしてぶっ倒れたことは一度や二度ではない。何を食べても太れない体質で、特に鳩尾の凹み具合は周りの友人と比べて自分は異常だと感じていたから、DeerhunterのフロントマンBradford CoxがAtlas Sound名義でリリースした『Logos』のアートワークを見たときには、いろんな意味でゾッとした。

臨海学修、林間学習、修学旅行などの学校行事はどれも喘鳴に悩まされた苦々しい記憶とともにある。臨海学修のときは勇ましく遊泳するクラスメイトの姿を、タイミング悪く生理になった女子と一緒にボートの上から眺めていて、あのときの情けないような惨めな気持ちは未だに忘れられない。家族旅行の際も必ず夜になると喘息発作を起こしてホテル近くの病院で吸入や点滴の処置を受けていた。いつも横に付き添ってくれていた母親には迷惑をかけっぱなしだった。そんな訳で今月に入ってからは非常に体調が悪く、おまけに歯痛、腰痛にも悩まされて、夜中に何度も目が覚めてしまう。目覚めたときはいつも息苦しくて、慌ててメプチンエアーに手を伸ばす。吸入してしばらくすると呼吸は落ち着いてくる。そのままソファに虚脱して朝を迎える。朝ごはんを要求してくる猫のミューモと文鳥のピッピにご飯を与えて今度は子どもたちを叩き起こし、みんな揃って慌ただしく朝食を済ませて妻のゆきこと子どもたちを送り出し、仕上げに洗濯と食器洗いを済ませてタラウマラへと向かう。自分が家を出るときに「行ってきます」と言える相手が部屋にいることを心から幸せだと思う。ミューモ、ピッピ、ほんまにありがとう。タラウマラのシャッターを開けると朝からたくさんの修理依頼を受ける。整備を終えた自転車が次々に巣立っていく。Googleの口コミで「ここはダメ。自転車の質が悪い」なんていう書き込みがあるにもかかわらず、数ある自転車屋のなかで僕の魂のカタチを具現化したような特異チャリンコ屋を選んでもらえることを素直に嬉しく思う。

昨年末まで一緒に働いていたマリヲくんが退職した際に、自分のなかで掲げた目標がある。まずは借金を完済すること、次に前年対比で売上を向上させること、そしてタラウマラレーベルからの制作/製作を途絶えさせないこと。この三本柱については現時点ですべて達成できた。おまけに今夏に関しては遂にサラリーマン時代の月収も超えることができた。これはひとえにタラウマラを利用してくれる日々のお客さんと、支えてくれる友人や家族、そして自分の意地の賜物だ。ひとりになったとき、何人もの人から「大丈夫なん？」「もう作品づくりできないんちゃう？」と言われ続けたけど、そこは誰に何を言われようとも自分を信じた。人はみな簡単に「嫉妬」という言葉を口にするけど、僕が抱えているのはいつだって「嫉妬」ではなく純粋に「負けたくない」とう気持ちだけ。それも身近な存在に対してではなく、もっと巨大な資本とかムードとか慣例みたいなものに対して。そして何よりも自分自身に対して。でもやっぱり言うは易し行うは難しで、達成する為には精神も肉体も相当に擦り減らしてきた。大好きな少年漫画の『呪術廻戦』に倣って言うと、誰にだって呪力切れは起こり得るということ。そんな訳でここ数日は通院と服薬と寝不足でへとへとなんだけど、お客さんとの何気ない会話から元気をもらうことは、どんなときにでも不意にやってくる。自転車のタイヤについているバルブと虫ゴムを駐輪場でパクられたギャルのAさん、虫ゴム交換後の水調べでチューブにも穴を開けられていることがわかった。しかもパンク修理で補えないレベルのデカい穴。Aさんはマジかぁと叫んで、次のような事柄を捲し立てた。先月、福井県のとある宿に宿泊してからこんなことばっかり起こるんですよ、その宿は幽霊屋敷みたいなボロボロの宿で私が泊まった部屋の天井は人間の手形みたいな痕がいくつもあって、とにかくそこに宿泊してから不吉なことが立て続けにあって、お母さんはここで買った自転車で車に轢かれて全治6ヶ月の重症やし、こないだはカレー屋でカレー食べてたら異物混入してて、気づかずに奥歯で思いっきり噛んでしもうて歯が砕けたんですよ、もう最悪です、お祓い行った方が良いですかね？矢継ぎ早に繰り出される災難の深刻さとは裏腹に、Aさんの表情はなぜか明るかった。まぁ、お母さんは命に別状はないし、自転車も奇跡的に無事だったし、カレー屋の保険対応でインプラントにできるし、ちょっとラッキーかもって思ってるんです、とのことなのだが、どう考えても彼女の置かれた状況はラッキーではない。幸と不幸の帳尻が合わない。そもそも歯を失わなければインプラントなんて必要ないのだ。実際に彼女のスマホで宿の写真も見せてもらったが、確かにいまにも崩れ落ちそうな薄汚い天井のあちらこちらに人間の手形のような染みが点在していた。よくこんな部屋で朝まで眠れたね、と聞くと、私ぜんぜん霊感ないんですけど、このときはさすがに気持ち悪くて、霊を拒絶するには死と真逆の行為をしたら良いって誰かに聞いたことがあったので、めちゃくちゃAV観てめちゃくちゃSEXしました、だから結局ぜんぜん寝れなかったんですよ、と快活に笑う。僕も笑うしかなかった。チューブ交換しないといけないのはめちゃ痛いですけど、この話をお兄さんにできたので良しとします、またお母さんも元気になったら連れてきますね、そう言って颯爽とペダルを回転させるAさんの後ろ姿を見て、ギャルってマジで最強やな、と改めて感心したのでありました。

I'm barely to the massacre and I can already tell I'm going to be screaming at every this-makes-no-sense decision made by the writers (your temple is under violent attack, and you evacuate the kids... to a barely enclosed corner in a prominent temple room? Instead of to the hundreds of sky bison that were highlighted as flying in earlier? Why?) (And Aang left to clear his head and think instead of to run from his duties? That's such a less compelling plot arc?) (And the show had him briefly monologue about being a goofy kid who loves pies and his friends instead of using the extended temple scene to show any of that? Didn't want to pay more child actors, did you, Netflix?)

Yeah I'm just. Going to be screaming at the screen instead of enjoying this. Different decisions aren't necessarily bad, but when those decisions seem to be in the direction of "show a man burning alive before we even get to the on-screen massacre" this is just... not the show for me.

Love the commonness of the ao3 tag “obligatory gaang finds out about zuko’s scar” and its variants. You can basically hear the writer sitting down and saying, “I KNOW I KNOW BUT LISTEN, I simply had to. This path is well trod because it’s a dope fucking path to tread. Sunsets happen daily and we’re still wild about them. The sunset in this case is the baring of emotional trauma from one teen to a handful of others. Rated T because Toph says fuck”

look look I have a feeling at least 60% of this whole Dallas and Ian shipping Zukka thing is for promo. But. Truly unhinged for them to bet on Zukka because like, Kataang and Zutara are still in a war that might go as long as the 100 year war, Sokka x Suki shippers are there, Maiko, Yuekka, Kataang. Like all of them have had a lot more mainstream attention lbr. Zukka is like tumblr going unhinged in 2020 and that's it.

Who bet on this horse? Did Dallas and Ian read Zukka fanfics? Did all of the cast get notes like "okay during interviews, Zukka is our main ship, got it? Ian act like you are marrying this man, Dallas I need you to lock eyes with him for 20 seconds" If this is for promo this is a dumb move because the Zutara shippers are far more desperate for canonization and Kataang shippers are ready to slay anyone who dares tarnish the canon meanwhile every Zukka shipper I know is like "guys I think Zuko is lalalala actually though there's this generalization that Sokka is lalalalala but hear me out-"
