Keep on Fighting
(Y/N) narrowly dodges the swipe of a titan’s hand, twisting her body around to slice its nape. The titan falls with a thud, steam rising in the air. She flies high in the air, surveying the ground below. It was utter chaos. The formation was disrupted due to the horde of abnormals coming their way. They were doing their best to take them out but more just keeps coming.
A sudden scream makes her whip her head towards the source. Her eyes widen at the sight of a cadet in the clutches of a titan with its wide mouth open, rows of teeth that were just waiting to bite into the flesh of a human being. Kicking into overdrive she pushes her gear to its limits as she zips straight for him. She has to get to him, she has to save his life. She grits her teeth, her heart pounding as she sees the cadet being lifted to its mouth, his legs kicking.
She manages to reach him in the nick of time, her blades slicing its hand. The cadet falls to the ground. He’s going to have a tumble but he’ll live, better than being eaten alive. However she forgot to take into account of herself, not realizing that the titan’s other hand looms over her. Realizing a second too late she feels the crushing pain of her bones being broken, a loud scream ripping from her through. No matter how much she struggles she couldn’t break free on its grip. The titan has a sinister smile on its face as it opens its mouth. Now she was faced with the jaws of death, and there was nothing she could do.
(Y/n) hears the sickening crunch of her legs being broken when the titan bites down, her scream piercing the air. Blood spurts out, tears streaming down her face as the ungodly pain explodes inside her body. Was this how she was going to die? There were so many things she wanted to do, so many things she wanted to see. An image of Levi flashes in her mind, her lover. She won’t be with him, her heart clenching painfully. Her eyes flutter close, slipping in and out of consciousness.
Her eyes snap wide open. That was Levi’s voice, no mistake. The titan lets out a howl, its grip loosening on her. She feels the rush of air as she plummets to the ground. She couldn’t react, she was just free falling to her doom. The next second (y/n) lets out a cry of pain as someone catches.
Through her hazy vision she makes out Levi, a distressed look on his visage. “Just hand on (y/n)! Don’t you dare black out on me!”
She smiles lazily at him. “Levi…,” she murmurs. She at least got to see him one last time.
“(Y/N), stay awake!” His voice cracks.
She couldn’t hear what else he was saying, everything was garbled in her ears. Her eyelids slid shut and she was enveloped in darkness.
(Y/n) feels something stroking her hand, something warm. Her face scrunches up, her eyes slowly opening. The room was white and bare, nothing extraordinary about it. Turning her head to the side she was met with the sight of Levi hunched over her, his eyes were bloodshot and wide.
“(Y/N)…,” he says in disbelief.
“Levi…?” she was unsure if what she was seeing was true or not. Wasn’t she nearly about to get eaten? No wait, Levi saved her. Just where was she? The questions swirling in her mind causes her head to pound, a groan slipping past her lips.
“You’re awake…,” his shoulders slump in relief.
“Where am I?”
“Oh…so I survived…,” she trails off. “How long was I out?”
“5 days,” he responds. No doubt was he by her side the whole time, watching over her. It makes her heart warm that he was with her, but at the same time she knew he neglected his well being for her.
“Well, I should get back to work.” (y/n) tries to pull the covers off but his hand seizes her wrist. “The fuck you are, you’re still injured!” He barks out.
“But Levi.” She protests.
He shakes his head. “No, you are to stay in this bed. Don’t remove the sheets.”
She furrows her eyebrows. There was more behind his words. “Why?”
“Take my word for it (y/n).” His voice slightly shakes.
“Levi tell me why.” She presses.
His eyes flash with pain, a hand coming up to cover the side of his face. He grits his teeth, his eyes closing. “They couldn’t…they tried…,” he couldn’t form coherent sentences, the events leading up to now burned into his mind, tormenting him.
“What couldn’t they do? Who is ‘they’?” She asks further, not understanding him.
“They couldn’t save your legs.” He whispers, his eyes reopen to show his anguish.
A sharp gasp leaves her lips, her hand pulling back the covers and she wished to god she didn’t. The lower half of her body was gone. She starts to hyperventilate, her blood pressure spiking. Her hand trembles, hand reaching out to touch what wasn’t there.
“I’m so sorry (y/n),” he says hoarsely. He blames himself. If only he had gotten to her sooner none of this would have happened.
She turns to him, arms out like a child wanting to be held. He embraces her immediately, stroking her hair in an attempt to soothe her. Her wails bounce off the walls, hands balled into his uniform. His heart breaks for her. She was alive, but at the cost of her legs.
After the revelation that she lost her legs (y/n) was silent and it worried Levi. She would stare up at the ceiling, not saying a single word to him. He couldn’t even begin to understand what was running through her head. She lost not one but two limbs, the trauma was big. He didn’t know if she was just in shock or not but regardless, he was here for her.
(Y/n) was propped against pillows, stuck in her own little world inside her head. He was holding her hand, giving small squeezes here and then. Suddenly she turns to face him.
“I don’t want to be in the infirmary anymore Levi,” she admits. “I feel trapped, I need to do something.”
“I want to go back out there and fight.” She says determinedly, fire burning in her eyes.
He looks at her in shock. After everything she went through she wanted to go back out there again?
(Y/n) casts her eyes down at the sheets, fingers curling into them. “I can still fight Levi, I don’t want to leave the Corps. I don’t want to just be on a wheelchair and wither away. That isn’t me.”
(Y/n) was a fighter, he knew that very well. She didn’t let anything stop her. If she was sick she would carry on working no matter how many times she sneezed and coughed. Continued on with her day if she had a broken arm like it was nothing. (Y/n) was so strong, stronger than him.
He squeezes her hand, making her look at him. “Alright, we’ll get you out of here.”
She smiles at him. “Thank you.”
It was agreed that (y/n) would get prosthetic legs. Technology has improved over the years and use of prosthetics to replace missing limbs was growing more common. Levi sat in during the surgery, holding her hand and murmuring comforting words to her when the pain was too much. The recovery time was a while so she was stuck at the infirmary for a longer time. (Y/N) was eager to get back to work but she knew that it was going to take time to get used to her new legs. It was weird having prosthetics. She needed to get used to them first before attempting to walk and such. Thankfully she had Levi supporting her.
It wasn’t easy. Countless times she has fallen when taking a step and it makes her frustrated, but she didn’t give up. She’d get up again and walk towards Levi. Sometimes the pain was excruciating and something would go wrong with her legs, needing to head back to the infirmary to get it fixed. She also had to learn how to take care of her new legs, another challenge. But she didn’t faltar, keeping her chin up.
“Come on (y/n), almost there.” Levi encourages her.
She clenches her jaw, placing one foot in front of the other. She wanted to collapse but she held on. She was improving day and day and hopefully today she could finally reach him. She gains confidence, letting go of the railings. She wobbles a little but regains her balance. She eliminates the distance between them, gripping his arms. (Y/n) huffs a little, looking into his ashen hues.
“You did it (y/n).” Levi murmurs, proud that she was able to walk.
She smiles. “I did. Soon I’ll be back out there kicking ass.”
A smile of his own curls on his lips. “You will.”
She embraces him, head under his chin. “Thank you for being with me.”
He drops a kiss to her hair. “Always (y/n).”
