So this is actually set in my Sesskag MDZS AU Noise of Rain for context.

Kagome couldn't remember the last time she'd seen Sesshomaru. The winter upon the burial mounds had grown harsh and cruel—and many of the half-demons and lesser demons that had fallen under her care now worried constantly between the lack of supplies and protection.

"Never fear, lady Kagome," Miroku chirped cheerily, his arms laden with kindling. "You and this mountain are more than enough to keep us safe. The cold season will pass. It always does."

Kagome wondered if Sesshomaru would return with the sun and the telling of spring—his arm bearing the gift of lotus and food once more.

She closed her eyes. Those were the easiest moments where she could see him.

He'd glance at her with that stoic face and a lift of his brows. "Little time has passed and yet you miss this one so greatly?"

"I guess there's nothing to look forward to." Kagome would always try to play it cool in her head, pull her fife from her obi, twirl it nonchalantly.

A rare reverberating chuckle would come from Sesshomaru's chest followed by a clawed hand slowly running through her hair. "Fear not little miko, I will return to you soon."

"I miss you." She'd say.

"I know." He would press his forehead against hers, blocking her from the view of the world. From the view of anyone to judge. It would only be them.

"Kagome!" Sango called, running from the path that led from the vale. Kohaku followed close in tow, his lifeless eyes narrowed and cautious. "Kikyo is at the foothills. She wishes to parley for the winter."

Miroku frowned. "That sounds suspicious. I would not meet her if I were you."

Kagome sighed and opened her eyes. "Was Kikyo alone?"

"So it seems." Sango hefted Hiraikotsu.

"I'll go meet her, see what she has to say." Kagome began the trek down the mountain. "Kohaku, Sango, be on standby in case this is a trap."

The snow and ice soaked her tabi and her sandals, wetting the hem of her yukata. She pulled her haori further up her shoulders, sinking a little deeper into the meager warmth it offered. At the back of her head, she imagined the warm trailing ends of demonic fur that nestled against the proud curve of an alabaster neck. Warmth bloomed through Kagome's face and she patted her cheeks quickly to get the image out of her mind.

There was a far more sobering effect as she came into the valley to find Kikyo astride a pale white horse.

"Hello my little incarnation," Kikyo said plainly, sliding from her saddle to the ground.

At least she's gracious enough to meet me eye-to-eye, Kagome rolled her eyes and pulled Kangaimuryo from her belt, the fife a comforting weight in her grasp. "So I heard you wanted a truce?"

"The winter is harsh, even my village underneath the rule of a shogun is having a hard time." Kikyo smiled something taut and controlled. "I'm sure your little mutt-filled haven is likely in a poor state."

"Get on with it before I leave." Kagome had half a mind to smash Kikyo's face into the ground.

"Very well," Kikyo said. "This is a voluntary arrest. Should you agree to come with me quietly, my lord will send goods and supplies to keep your Burial Mounds village alive. Warm clothes, thatching, food. All it requires is your cooperation."

Kagome barked out a laugh. "My arrest? Voluntary?"

"Yes. They are agreeable terms are they not? To refuse would be entirely selfish on your part as a leader."

Kagome gripped her fife, the smooth wood creaking under the intensity of her grasp. Demonic aura started to writhe at her feet. A surprised look raised Kikyo's brow and she took a step back.

"Let me make myself perfectly clear," Kagome growled. She felt a ghost of claws along her back and a whisper of baritone praise in her ear. "We don't need anyone's help, certainly not your lesser lord's. You think you're so much better than us, coming here as if you have the only option. Well I'll tell you what, Miss Holier than Thou. Me and my village, we won't just survive—we will thrive. So you can shove that cute little offer you brought and go right back home."

Kikyo's indignance was blatant, she smiled a sweet and coy thing. "You will not get a second offer."

"Shove it before I decide to shove something else, Kikyo." Kagome raised the fife to her lips for good measure.

Staring down her nose, Kikyo remounted her horse and left without a word.

Kagome watched her leave, fury and demonic energy curling around her fingertips. Taking a heaving breath in then out, she turned on her toes. The snow was cold.

"You did well my little miko," Sesshomaru would say.

comical plot twist:

lan qiren has a secret hobby ever since he discovered the joys of Online Cultivation Forums, especially one where he can scout for people with Massive Potential and/or Brilliant Ideas and offer to help them formalize their ideas into actual Papers (or discover Horrible ones and send them better reference materials).

of course, Internet etiquette sanctifies anonymity so lan qiren doesn't press for personal information from the few brilliant minds he meets. he has a good instinct for identifying the younger ones from the tried and true experts, and this yLlingla0zuxX clearly is an esteemed veteran.

his methods may seem scattered, but lan qiren is Most Willing to Invest in the Time to help this esteemed cultivator get the merit and proper consideration his ideas deserve. under the very proper alias: GrandArchivist.

GrandArchivist reaches out to yLlingla0zuxX offering to help him flesh out his innovations so yLlingla0zuxX can get it published and patented as Proper.

yLlingla0zuxX is reluctant at first, but agrees to do it. he shares a gee doc link.

it takes a while, but - between lan qiren's initial bafflement at real-time collaboration and yLlingla0zuxX's erratic and rambling thoughts - they manage to publish it.

AU Idea: Everything is the same except the Mo Family runs an opera troupe and Mo Xuanyu is one of the dan performers. He is a lousy actor with a decent singing voice. He forgets lines and has breakdowns a few minutes before the show starts. The troupe only allowed him to perform because they lack members and are desperate to climb the social ladder.

When people ask why the infamous ex-performer is hanging out with Hanguang-jun, Wei Wuxian gives an excuse that he's trying to learn music cultivation because his "family" was terrible and he wants to learn from a real musician
