I hate how much that autism has become a joke recently. "omg I'm so autistic 🤪" when they literally just do something a bit out of the ordinary. But in reality autism isn't that at all, especially for me. For me it's sensory issues, missing social cues, overstimulation, sensitivity, stimming, echolalia, auditory processing issues, having difficulty making and maintaining friends, etc. stop making real disorders a little joke, you are contributing to the harmful stereotypes and stigma.

What if—

Steve Harrington has an audio processing disorder and that's why he was staring at Eddie's lips in the Upside Down? Like, he certainly doesn't mind staring, because they're attractive lips. But also, it wasn't initially due to infatuation or flirting.

And then, when everything is over, him and Eddie hang out a lot. And Eddie notices that Steve still stares at his lips—like a good 99% of the time. So he just leans in and kisses Steve.

And Steve like blue screens, essentially. Like that's his moment of realization? It's not like he wasn't aware of his feelings for Eddie, but he didn't realize how badly he wanted them to kiss. But now that it's happened, he has even more of a reason to keep staring at Eddie's lips. (Even though it definitely doesn't help that he stops listening and processing whatever Eddie's saying, because he just wants to kiss so bad. So Steve has to kiss Eddie every once in a while to shut him up and then ask for him to start over. And Eddie isn't bothered by this, just rolls his eyes and fakes annoyance.)

(This is brought to you by the fact that I stare at everybody's lips and yeah, sometimes I want a kiss. But also, what the fuck are you saying? I have to know.)

frustrate that sometimes people reduce auditory process problems to just , sometimes words is hard understand . because yes that is often big part for people but not only one .

sometimes get so bad for self that might as well not be english language . also have problems know where sounds from , and sometimes even what is in first place . something could be cat or alarm might not know which . like need think in head what make sense for place for time for situation , not just always know what sound is what .

and someone could talk for minute before realise talk , even when hear brain just do not … realise . can be much more struggle than just little bit hard understand words .

( maybe some this influence by other brain stuff and ear stuff . but still . is frustrate lump all down as just small words problem . )

What the hell is it with some hearing people with auditory processing disorder claiming that it makes them deaf/HoH?

I mean the issues with that idea seem so obvious on its face that no one should be able to make this mistake, or at least should be able to see the error once it has been pointed out.

You can be both but having auditory processing disorder in no way makes you deaf/HoH.

Trust me, I know that audio processing disorder is a disability, but that does not make that claim any less ableist.

I would like to think that none of these people have ever interacted with a deaf/HoH person, but I know better than to think that.
