It’s been three years since Max, Michael, and Isobel released Jones from his prison. Two years since Jones took over Max’s body and went on a spree of destruction, leaving Liz and her friends to vanish into hiding. Eighteen months since Jones ascended to become Dictator of this world too.

Max is gone, his consciousness crushed by Jones. Michael too--Jones sparing no mercy for his only son because of the threat he posed. Those who survived are fugitives in a world reshaped by destructive fire, staying ahead of their enemies only through Maria’s visions. But Maria’s health is failing and Liz doesn’t have what she needs to help her dearest friend.
