Auran Dulce Reference Sheet: November 2020

Name: Auran Delancey Dulce Age: Unknown (Suspected to be fairly young for a doll) Height: 5 feet, 8 inches Build: Nutcracker Friends: Loraine Celeste, Manny Quinn, Amil Pastiche, Marie Sycamore, Elizabeth and Wilhelmina Stahlbum (deceased) Employers/Caretakers: Siegfried and Odette Tools: Travel pack (holds herbs, map, compass, and scale), Icicle Staff (combat) Physical Traits: Very nimble, Flexible articulation, Quick on his feet Magic: Aurora Dust (manipulation of wintry weather, such as snow, ice, winds, and aurora borealis, can only be used with fluid body movement, ie: dancing)

Story Summary: Auran is a nutcracker that was built to serve in the royal guard, but this lifestyle left him dissatisfied and frustrated. Taking a note from “The Prince and the Pauper,” he switched places with a beautiful ballerina named Loraine in secret. Both of their true identities were revealed about three months later, but given how well they did their jobs, the switch was made permanent, and both were outfitted with proper new pieces.

Auran would go on to become on of the finest dancers in the Swansong Ballet, and arguably, in all of Equinox. But that was far from the end of his adventures. Going on a valiant quest to the Dragon’s Roost in the Great North, he earned his magic, while saving King Jumbalah and the Great Northern Tribe.

In modern times, he’s discovered a gateway into a realm not unlike the Earth you and I know well, joining forces with a brilliant inventor named Marie. It is upon bringing Marie to Equinox’s Winter Solstice Celebration that the Mouse King (who was vanquished long ago by King Hans and Queen Clara) has been resurrected from the dead. The Mouse King then curses every nutcracker in the kingdom to be human, so that he may not be defeated by a nutcracker ever again. Unfortunately, Auran gets hit by a faulty vein of the curse, resulting in him being a nutcracker when the sun is up, but a human by nightfall, with a lot of pain going back and forth. It’s up to him and Marie to find the leader of the fairies to help them take down the mouse army, before they can infect all of Equinox with an even greater curse: turning the subjects into mindless were-rats.

Other Fun Facts:

He grows a small garden for the forest animals to take part in, as until being cursed, he can’t eat.

When he is able to eat, he’s found he loves carrots. His taste buds appreciate anything that’s sweet or comes naturally from the Earth.

He’s commonly associated with imagery of bunnies, specifically the snow hare (which I fully blame @darknesslioness for). I loved it enough that there is a canonical part of his story in the Great North where he’s turned into a snow hare.

Auran and Loraine have the same sexuality: asexual and biromantic.

It’s unclear at what point in time his face got cracked, but after getting the base of it repaired, he’s chosen to let his scar be shown.

His back sigil takes inspiration from a compass rose and a snowflake, while still continuing his diamond motif.

The golden diamond on his chest is the gem that holds his magic. It changes colors ever so slightly depending on how he’s feeling.

His hair looks damn fabulous blowing in the wind.

Much like other dolls, Auran’s hair is actually a wig. He doesn’t switch it often unless a performance calls for it, but his two preferred wigs are both fluffy and white, one longer and one shorter.

His joints are magnetic! This technically means you could put magnets on his bum, and they would stick.

However, when dolls lose limbs, they lose some of their memories, as memories are stored in their body parts rather than just in the mind. Unfortunately, Auran is missing some of his memories, given his parts had to be repaired and restructured after an accident early in his lifetime.
