General Info

We're currently 21, accept they/them as a collective pronoun, and will respond to Wingbeat. Our system discovery happened summer 2017, but everything went quiet around 2018. Rediscovery happened late 2022.

We're largely syscourse neutral. We did that whole thing the first time round and would rather stay out of it.

On Carnelian’s many uncles (Part 1)

Remember how in a recent-ish post, I mentioned that everyone was Carnelian’s uncle? Well, this is the promised explanation of that crackpot idea.

(Cut for spoilers)

We learn about a few of Carnelian’s uncles in the first few chapters alone:

Crail (paternal half-uncle through Sardian)

Kumatuya (maternal half-uncle through Azurea)

Aurum (paternal uncle by marriage through Sardian’s sister)

And as it turns out, there are a few more in the Masks:

Hanuses (more maternal half-uncles through Azurea)

Tyatxungo (same, even if he’s only mentioned in The Third God and named in the family tree)

Now, you must be thinking, okay, so Carnelian has 6 characters who count as his uncles in several ways, but that’s still not that impressive, and remember Kumatuya is actually his biological father.

To which I say, true, but he is still his uncle, much as Azurea is both his mother and aunt (Masks family ties are weird). And speaking of Azurea technically being Carnelian’s aunt, who does that give us as an additional uncle?

Sardian (half-uncle by marriage)

Sardian being Carnelian’s father in all but blood and his uncle by marriage not strange enough? Wait, there are a few more uncles by marriage to consider:

Molochite (half-uncle by marriage through Ykoriana)

Jaspar (same as above)

Oh, wait, and wasn’t Vennel promised a marriage to a lady of the Masks too? Well, if she was a half-sister of Kumatuya and Azurea, there’s a good chance he joins the ranks of uncles:

Vennel (possible half-uncle by marriage)

More from canon: while Akaisha did become Carnelian’s adoptive mother, she was also the sister of Ebeny, who was Carnelian’s mother for all intents and purposes, making her his aunt from a certain point of view. That would mean her husband gets to be added to the list as well:

Stormrane (uncle by marriage)

That gives us 11 characters who can be considered as Carnelian’s uncles from canon information alone!

Now, I do believe there’s enough in fanon to increase that number by quite a lot, but that will include a bunch of explanations of variable length, so it will be left as a post for another day. Stay tuned!
