📘 Shadow Rose 📚 Daughters of Moon and Sun 🖋️ Elsie Quail ➡️ Synopsis 🌞🌞🌞🌙 Firstly, I fell completely in love with this cover. It is just absolutely gorgeous! The premise of the story was also rather compelling and I do love a well-spun fantasy world. The world setting itself is really quite wonderful, especially the contrast between the human world vs. the Afterlife. The details of magic and different creatures to the compellingly dark dungeons where the Lady of Darkness was being kept prisoner kept me riveted. I also love a good quest for which these 3 friends set off to right a wrong. Unfortunately, I wasn't too keen on these characters. Maybe, it was my expectations... I somehow wanted Maeva to be just like Mia from The Nevernight Chronicles. Okay, not exactly but bad ass because, at the start of the book, that's what she kind of sounds like. However, she wasn't, exactly... She and her friends cried quite a lot in the book. I don't know why I mind so much when my tears are pretty much on tap but it bothered me. Her interaction with her bff & love interest was also really awkward which is in one way understandable BUT I kind of found the first time they actually got it together so very truly awkward or just really weird (in terms of setting than sexual content). But then again, it could just be me. This book is obviously not for children and these characters are also not children but yet, they also stamped their feet a number of times! I honestly can't remember the last time I stamped my feet because I'm upset, can you? Overall, lovely setting, really promising story arc but I was just unable to empathise with these characters. 🌺🏒💜 Okay, so I've been on a massive sports romance binge lately, ice hockey specifically. . Was in a huge slump after reading Sarah J Maas's House of Sky and Breath and just couldn't get into anything. I think I must have picked up six different fantasy books and just couldn't. That book broke my brain! 😂 . So during my hockey binge, I naturally came to the Off Campus series (I'd previously read a book called Him she'd co-written) and then to Briar U. . I loved both those series, and The Play was just fun. Hunter has been in the background of the last few books, and it was finally his time to shine in his story. . Hunter has taken a vow of celibacy for the season after some major screw ups the previous year. Then enter Demi Davis. The two strike up a friendship after being paired on a class project. YESSSS THIS DAMN SERIES JUST KILLS ME 😍 Starting my New Year book posts with one of my absolute favorite series! Ayleth is so beautifully flawed and perfect and I just wish I could be her hunt sister 🙈 she is the definition of a strong woman. She overcomes. She lives, she struggles, she makes mistakes but she is still strong, smart and powerful and PERFECT 🙌 I also love seeing more of Terryn's emotions and internal struggles with this book. He is still very much the stubborn, consummate professional but it's really nice to see little embers of that slow burn Romance. 🔥 Paths of Malice finally had a much stronger focus on Dread Odille and her red devil witch lieutenants, their history and stories which I've been waiting for since the first book 🙈 No spoilers but this book is just as exciting, Dark, twisted, devilish and magically thriller-y ❤ Three out of three books of this series being brilliant? Hiya! Is anyone else a massive Disnerd like me?? . Since I moved from Aus, I’ve been very careful about my purchases due to the fact that I do have to bring it all back with me when I move back home. And being a Disney fan isn’t easy with so many Disney stores and stockists around me. I am keeping myself very restricted and I think a lot about whether the item is worth buying and bringing back to Australia with me. I’ve been living in the UK for nearly a year now and I’ve only bought this Disney Animator’s Collection mug, the Beauty and the Beast pandora bangle (the charms were gifted to me), and this box set of Villain Tales by Serena Valentino. Kuang 🎓🎓🎓🎓✒️ "Professor Lovell liked plain scones the least, though, so sultana scones were the staple of their afternoon teas ... [Robin] knew he didn't like sultanas in his scones; when Professor Lovell wasn't looking, he picked out his sultanas, slathered the denuded scone in clotted cream, and popped it in his mouth." Ok so the above quote doesn't really have anything to do with the plot in the book but seriously, all the mention of scones made me crave for some so what does one do but bake some! I'd suggest some fresh scones ready for reading the first part of the book but after that, I really needed wine. A. Lot. of. Wine. Honestly, I was wary of this book after The Poppy War trilogy. I mean that trilogy was violently brutal! And seriously, R.F. Kuang does not hold back her punches. Babel is excruciatingly brutal. I find that with The Poppy War trilogy, there is that veil of fantasy but in Babel, while there is still that fantasy veil, it is ever so sheer. Babel is a very dense reading. The amount of research must have been astounding. There was so much in this book from general history to linguistic ones. As the author has noted, however, certain things were fudged a little bit to fit because, after all, this is a work of fiction. I can't tell you what's been fudged but I'm still so very impressed with the meticulous details presented in this novel. The read will take a lot of focus and time but hoowee, it's absolutely worth IT! "'...And we're asking you now to finally, please, hear what we're trying to tell you. 🖤🧛🖤🗡️🖤 Was so excited to get this beast in the mail yesterday! I pre-ordered this bad boy back in February and it's so damn pretty! It's has the most gorgeous illustrations inside and I think it may be the prettiest book I own. . I other news, lockdown in regional vice has eased, which means that Master Ollie has once more gone back to school. It's been a bit rough and not gunna lie, it's difficult keeping a a 7yo and a 3yo occupied while home schooling and it's been a bit if a free for all the last few weeks. But, back to school for now at least, until holidays! ☺️ . Things have been fairly steady on the writing front, and my rough timeline it's looking good for now.
