Parklife (1994) and Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino (2018): What does it mean to be an album of the times?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At face value Blur’s third studio album Parklife, released in 1994, and Arctic Monkeys’ 2018 release Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino, their sixth, are very very very different albums. One the Britpop classic, the other a widely divisive experimentation -- they don’t even seem like they could hang out in the same sentence together. Then what the fuck am I on about?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both albums are individually iconic in the respective band’s discographies -- with Parklife Blur conquered the heights of the Britpop war and firmly cemented its place in British music history while TBH&C marked a pivotal turn in style for the Monkeys, which in my very humble non-musician opinion, will make it historic sometime in the future. If you have spent as much time as I have overthinking the lyrics and pondering over interviews of another British rock band you are hyperfixating on though, you might see something more connecting these two albums. Written about 20 years away from each other, in wildly different times,  the two weirdly enough, have these faint threads tying in their themes and subject matters.
Damon Albarn, the principal author of Parklife, described the album to NME as, “a loosely linked concept album involving all these different stories. It's the travels of the mystical lager-eater, seeing what's going on in the world and commenting on it."  Rings a bell? That’s extremely TBH&C coded! That one has often been called a concept album based on a luxury hotel and casino on the moon with various eccentric characters and their stories, wryly commenting on issues plaguing life in the 2010s.
Parklife was a kind of a study of middle class English life of the mid-90s. With an extremely catchy pop soundscape and cheeky-cockney-laced lyrics about London parks and bank holidays, it became a quintessential symbol of Cool Britannia. They say the album never took off in the States because it was so British. In the years since, however, the band has described it more as sarcastic critique rather than a celebration of Britishness. Going through the lyrics with a fine toothed comb  with that in mind then, you can feel the impatience a bunch of 20s somethings were feeling with the ideal 9-to-5 picket fence lifestyle as well as exhaustion with the hedonistic decadence of youth in the backdrop of an unpopular Conservative-led economy in decline. A similar, if updated for 30 year olds in 2018, sentiment can be sensed in the absurd surrealism of the lyrics of  TBH&C. What do you do when you are fed up with tribulations of life and the ghosts of mistakes you’ve made along the way-- you fuck off and escape into whimsy of science fiction.
The political context of the time when Parklife and Tranquility Base were released does matter. Opens up another perspective to reading the album.  It’s quite a stretch but bear with me.
The 90s in the UK began with Thatcher resigning and the Conservative government which dominated the 80s, becoming increasingly unpopular. There was a recession plaguing the early years of the decade. Britpop happened smack dab in the middle of this, and it was all about reacting to grunge and shoegaze and bringing back what is essentially British back to its music scene. Oasis, Suede, Pulp, Elastica (Justine Frischmann is the queen of Britpop btw) -- and ofcourse, Blur, were reviving guitar pop, singing in working class accents and about working class life and bringing back memories of the Swinging Sixties. Though each drawing from a wide variety of influences, these bands were becoming the face of a wider movement in music, art and youth culture.  The political scene took note.
In the mid-90s, the Labour Party led by Tony Blair quickly aligned itself with Britpop and Cool Britannia. Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn were being courted by politicians , label execs getting party membership invites, headlines went like “What’s the Story? Don’t vote Tory”. Britpop soon acquired nationalist undertones --- never forget Brett Anderson showing off his twinky waist with Union Jack in the background and “Yanks go home!” headline.
By the end of the 90s, when Britpop had begun crumbling, the economy had recovered and Tony Blair was in Downing Street.
TBH&C and the Monkeys in general, perhaps have less political currency. When they burst onto the scene with their Sheffield accents and garage rock riffs in the generally stable pre-2008 economic climate, the Arctic Monkeys did occupy the space in British pop culture left vacant by Blur and Oasis in the wake of post Britpop, at least for a time. Their debut broke the record of being the fastest selling one, which used to be held by Elastica previously. The Monkeys were indie rock darlings in the UK and with 2013’s AM, became darlings in the US (and Tumblr) as well. Tranquility Base though, came out in a whole different world.
2018 was a fucking atrocious time, to put it mildly. The world was in total freefall inching rapidly towards disaster, which ultimately culminated in the pandemic of 2020. Trump had been elected in 2016 and 2018 was arguably one of the peaks of his shitshow. Over in the UK, Theresa May and her Conservative Cabinet were deep in the quagmire of Brexit negotiations. (Gotta note that Turner has said he voted against leaving in the referendum. Albarn is of course, a very vocal critic of Brexit.) Right wing governments were coming into power everywhere it seemed like, the climate crisis took on a new sense of alarm among the larger public - and things only spiralled in the years following. I can’t think of another album which could accurately capture the sheer fatigue of seeing outrageous headline after headline, how desensitised we had all become, how disillusioned with life- in a mason jar like TBH&C has.
That’s what makes an album legendary doesn’t it? You listen to it and immediately remember what living at the time was like. Even if 1994 was 10 years before I was born.
Now that we have gotten that out of the way, let’s look at the two albums a little more closely.
Some lyrics which give me very similar vibes:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
sexual hedonism // start treatment (tbh&c) and girls & boys (parklife)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
mundanity of relationships // four stars out of five (tbh&c) and end of century (parklife)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the performativeness of middle class activism/social work // tranquility base hotel and casino (tbh&c) and parklife (parklife)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
losing friends and losing touch // the ultracheese (tbh&c) and badhead (parklife) - now these aren't really similar, but i feel a connection. in my bones trust me bro. the whole "i'll grin and bear with it" thing about badhead is very reminiscient of the sense of insouciance about life that haunts tbh&c....almost??
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the myth of america // the ultracheese (tbh&c), golden trunks (tbh&) and magic america (parklife) - magic america is making fun of reagan era the american dream while a disillusionment with the glitz and glam of life in la is pretty much consistent throughout tbh&c
Tumblr media Tumblr media
a pathological dependence on technology as escapism // jubilee (parklife) and start treatment (tbh&c) - digital cameras and the internet and tvs were taking baby steps into invading our daily lives back in 1994, and by 2018 we were all fully under the vice grip of tech addiction. this parallel i find particularly funny so.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
astronomical references // far out (parklife) and star treatment (tbh&c) - alex james, the blur bassist wrote and sung far out about his love of space. it's a pretty nice parallel hey.
For the last one, let's talk about Tracy Jacks from parklife. I couldn't really draw a direct parallel with a song from the other album, but that song spiritually fits right in I feel. An average Joe in the throes of a midlife crisis, teethering so so close to the edge and one day just snaps - that's a character one would expect dwells in the lounge of the Tranquility Base Hotel to drown themselves in the decadence and escape from all their shit, when all is said and done.
Now what's the concluding point of all this rambling. I don't know lolz. Y'all just read a thousand words of nothing.
Just kidding. Actually I read somewhere Damon Albarn was inspired by the 1989 novel London Fields, a science-fiction adjacent black comedy set against the backdrop of an impending nuclear crisis, while writing Parklife. That kinda rung a bell. (Yes, I did wonder if Alex has read this)
Tumblr media
I just wanted to see if we can find any interesting connections parrallels or references between Parklife and Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino. I dunno if I've been successful in getting any point across, or it's just pointless waffling on. But one thing that did get confirmed to me once again, these two albums are really the Albums of Their Times. Captures the zeitgeist in such a specific but unique in their own ways, it's really wonderful.
And also studying the legacy and impact of AM with reference to other musical outfits is always fun. I think we can all safely say that AM is well on their way to capturing a seat in the pantheon of great British bands, where somewhere in a corner Blur also sits. Damon Albarn is a fucking legend of course -- from the pretty posh boy of Britpop he has gone to becoming one of the most versatile, experimental and prolific songwriter/composer in the contemporary music scene. He is apparently working on the music for an Goethe's fragmented libretto of Magic Flute Part 2. How many rockstars do you know have composed operas - how fucking dope. I wanna hope that we'll get to see Alex exploring crazy paths in music like this, he definitely has the potential. This whole exercise would probably have made more sense with one of Damon's post-Blur works, his first solo record Everyday Robots or even Blur's last album The Magic Whip, but I started this essay so had to finish it.
Maybe another day eh.

#ted lasso for dummies
01×01 Pilot
00:00:56 'But it's Hockney!'*
*David Hockney is one of the most influential British artists 🎨 of XX century. Known by his contribution to the pop art movement of the 60's.
As cliche as it is, the work of art that Rebecca and Higgins refers to is called 'Football Player'. And in real life it was sold for £22,500.
Tumblr media
00:02:20 'Liam and Noel. Though, perhaps not an Oasis.'*
*It is impossible to imagine Britain and its culture without one of the biggest and most acclaimed bands of the 90's. Oasis is a quintessence of most hated and beloved band. Alcohol, drugs, canceled gigs, bad press, accusations of imitating the work of other musicians, rivalry between brothers and the boundless love of the fans - it's all about Oasis. So, maybe comparison made by Rebecca between George Cartrick's testicles and Liam/Noel Gallagher of Oasis is a pointer to beef (rivalry) history of latter.
00:04:04 'Jack Kerouac. The Dharma Bums'*
*The Dharma Bums is a 1958 novel by Beat Generation author Jack Kerouac. Description of mountain climbing, cycling, hitchhiking, poetry readings, jazz drunk parties is done through the prism of Buddhism. So maybe it makes sense: Ted and his philosophy of life and work?!
Tumblr media
00:06:58 'Okay. That's Tower Bridge. Right. Not the London Bridge, because this one is still up'.
*For me as a foreigner it's a bit confusing?! Is it a reference to Operation London Bridge - the funeral plan for Queen Elizabeth II created in 60's, where the phrase 'London Bridge is down' is like signal of Queen's death to the PM and others, setting the plan into motion? Or is it like some touristy stuff?
Tumblr media
00:08:39 'Y'all got Nathan's hot dogs 🌭 here?'*
* An American company that operates a chain of fast-food restaurant's  specializing in hot dogs. There are some restaurants in GB, but Nates lack of knowledge about them msybe suggests their unpopularity.
Tumblr media
00:13:22 'Trent Crimm, The Independent.'*
* The Independent during 1986-2016 British print newspaper, nowadays - online newspaper. And it is owned by representative of the terrorist country and ex kgb agent 😵
Tumblr media
00:18:57 'Wales. Is that another country?'*
*Yeap, Wales is a country (with it's own capital Cardiff) that is a part of another country - 🇬🇧 . Besides it UK consists of: England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Tumblr media
00:19:03 'It's kinda like America these days.'*
*Perhaps Ted is equating the countries within the UK to states in America OR is taking about sovereign states and dependent territories in the Americas(such as Canada, Brazil, Cuba and other)?!
00:19:25 'And am I getting notes of Axe body spray?'*
*If you are a man and you forget your body spray while traveling from the USA to GB, remember: AXE=LYNX 🤣
Tumblr media
00:20:07 'Last time I saw eyes that cold, they were going head-to-head with Roy Scheider. Jaws? No, All that jazz.'
* Jaws and All That Jazz are among seven Scheider movies that are considered classics. And it's all known fact that he was really great performer, who knew how to hold the audience's attention both in the role of a shark-hunting sheriff and in the role of theater director/choreographer who was alcoholic, a driven workaholic and a womanizer .
Tumblr media
00:22:29 'Never thought it would end being coached by Ronald fucking McDonald'*
*Ronald McDonald is a mascot of the McDonald's fast-food restaurant chain.
I remember my first time at McDonald's and that creepy as fuck statue of clown, thank fucking God he is not around anymore in UA restaurants.
Tumblr media
00:24:48 'Well, I hope you never run into Biz Markie.'*
*We share your sentiment Ted. It is really bad. Biz Markie, was an American rapper and singer. Sometimes was referred to as the "Clown Prince of Hip Hop". Fellas, it is all we need to know.

A History of Oasis Fanfiction
I'm calling this "A History" rather than "The History" because this is from my point of view. I know I could've done more research on this topic and dug way deeper into it than I have but decided not to. So, I'll be sharing a history of Oasis Fanfiction as it pertains to my history with it but hopefully others in the fandom can still relate to it.
I've been a fan of Oasis since 2005. Long story short, I fell in love with the Beatles in 1999/2000 followed by Jet in 2004 followed by Oasis in 2005. There were other bands elsewhere in that mix but Jet and Oasis have always been the most important ones to me after the Beatles. To me, they both sound like a modern day Beatles in their own unique ways.
Despite being a fan for so long, I didn't discover the Oasis Fanfiction Community until 2015 on the day after I saw Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds in concert. Still buzzing after the show, I googled Oasis fanfiction which led me to the Tumblr page of @heresthestorymorningglory. Their story, "The Girl In The Dirty Shirt" blew me away for so many reasons with the biggest one being how they included real life events into it. Up until then, the fanfiction I read in other fandoms was fluffy and maybe included some real life stuff but not in the way this author did.
In addition to Tumblr, the author also had a Wattpad account. I'd never heard of Wattpad before but decided to join it after it prompted me to do so while looking at Oasis fanfiction on there. This led me to so many other great authors (like @Katy15307) who wrote so many great stories and inspired me to write my own.
I never thought I'd write my own story because I didn't think I'd be able to write something as good as the stories I was reading. But in November of 2015, I finally mustered up the courage to write and post "To Light A Bitter Fuse" and haven't looked back since. It's been a fun journey so far and I've met a lot of wonderful people over the years because of it.
That brings me to my next topic: the Oasis Fanfiction Community. If you've read my author's notes on Wattpad (I leave them out of my posts on Archive of Our Own), you know I talk about this a lot. But it's a subject that always strikes me and makes me wonder.
The Oasis Fanfiction Era from about 2015 to 2017 at least on Wattpad seemed like a pretty active time period. I'm sure this included the couple years before it as my two favorite stories by my two favorite authors were first started in 2013 and 2014, respectively (I believe). I met a lot of great people back then who not only provided lovely support on my stories but became my friends as we gushed about our shared love of Oasis amongst other things.
Sadly, it seems like a lot of people have come and gone since then. I could make a whole list of people who I really wish I could reconnect with. It always makes me wonder what happened to them when all of a sudden they just stopped reading, writing, commenting, voting/giving kudos, etc. Did they leave the fandom and move on to another one? Did life get in the way and they just don't have time for writing and reading fanfiction anymore?
When I first discovered "The Girl In The Dirty Shirt" it was so entertaining to follow the author's Tumblr for their almost weekly updates as well as their Q and A videos and general interactions with their fans. But eventually that came to an end also which was sad to see happen.
I know we all have lives outside of writing and reading fanfiction. So, I can understand if someone gives it up because of this. It's just so sad to see people go and not get a chance to say goodbye.
This post from @coolcassie really says a lot: https://coolcassie.tumblr.com/post/188829997432
There are still Oasis fanfiction readers and writers out there though. Some old, some new which gives me hope this fandom is gonna live forever (see what I did there?). And maybe this post will bring people out of the woodwork long enough to at least say, "Hey! How's it going? I've really missed talking to you!"
To anyone reading this, thank you for being a friend. Not only if you've read and enjoyed any of my stories (and thank you so much if you have!) but also for indulging in our shared love of the Gallagher Brothers with me amongst other things!

Tag Game Tuesday
Hey, hey, hey, it's a new tag game! Thanks @creepkinginc and @mishervellous

pronouns: She/her
when is your birthday? April 16
where do you call home? The mountains of Virginia, USA
do you have any pets? Two cats and a snake
current favorite musical artist: I've been listening to a lot of Black Violin lately. The current round of my music league is "a song from an unusual genre." Do you have any recommendations for an unusual genre?
what do you do for work? I build websites for authors. Some of them you've likely heard of.
if you could have lunch with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be? I can't rightfully say Gandhi or Buddha when we all know my honest answer is Noel Fisher.
what are you wearing right now? Jeans, white socks, a green sweatshirt.
you’re going back to school, what’s your major? No no no. I will never return to school.
last fanfic or book you read: Holding Out for a Hero by J_Q
and finally, share a happy memory with me: Back before I married my husband, we took a trip with my mom to Philadelphia. We visited the Mutter Museum, which features medical oddities. The pieces were all delightfully gross, but my mom noticed a door that led to a restricted area. She asked a guard what was behind the door. He said, "Those are the exhibits which are too gruesome to show the general public." So, mom waited. She stood near the door. When a group of medical students filed in to that room, she slipped in with them. She was able to see most of the off-limits exhibits before the instructor noticed that she was there. Then she acted old-lady befuddled and said she honestly thought she was allowed to be on the tour. She spent the rest of the day telling us about all the gory stuff. My goal as I turn more gray is to be like my mom and use my age as a tool to be a public miscreant!
I'll tag ... @francesrose3 @silvanshadow @michellemisfit @depressedstressedlemonzest @look-i-love-u

Fic authors self-rec! ✨ When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you’ve written, then pass on to at least five other writers (if you would like to)!
Thanks for this! It was sort of hard to pick because I have a bunch. But here we are in no particular order:
1. Bird Passing Through:
I wrote this for a Mclennon Big Bang and was really proud to finish it. It was fun to write but hard because of the trippy vibe and all the mystical elements.
2. Throw The Wine:
This was the first fic I wrote in the Beatles fandom. It was going to be a one shot where John and Paul kiss and turned into a very long chaptered fic. Technically the last chapter is missing but it's possible to read it anyway. One day I'm definitely going to finish it but I'll admit I'm a little scared a final chapter could never be good enough.
3. Let Me Be The One:
The second fic I wrote for Gallaghercest. The previous one had been Noel's pov and I wasn't entirely comfortable writing them yet. I started writing Liam's perspective and this whole stream of consciousness mess came hurtling out of me. I joke that Liam possessed me. But really. I wrote it in about 2 weeks and lived and breathed Liam for a while there. I made it into a series of fics all set in the same universe. I still think its my best Gallagher fic.
4. Burning Matches:
Like all my major fics this one sort of started out as a joke because I saw a picture of Noel Gallagher standing beside Mary McCartney and decided to write a story where they have an affair. It's fun to write because it combines my fandoms. It's interesting to me to try to write about the Beatles experience from the point of view of the second generation. But also the difference or similarity between Noel's experience as a celebrity and Paul's and Mary's as a Beatle child. The different social classes. Writing about the McCartneys as an ordinary family was a challenge but a pleasure. The contrast between them and the acknowledgedly dysfunctional Gallaghers in particular.
It was also interesting to be able to write about grief as a motivator getting into Linda's death.
5. Stop The Clocks:
This was my first chaptered Gallagher fic and I only just finished it recently. I came across an article about Liam saying he and Noel had been friendly in 2017 and were going to spend Christmas together. And when asked about it after the holiday he had to admit that he might have been drunk when he thought that and sort of imagined it.
This sort of sprung out of that. It's my Gallagher Bird Passing Through.

Episode 304: Interview with Jeevey
Tumblr media
🎙 LISTEN HERE! Or find us on Apple Podcast, Spotify, and everywhere else you can stream podcasts!
Sara sits down with the amazing, sublime, talented @jeevey, a legend in the Oasis RPF and Gcest world. Jeevey talks about the challenges of finding time to express yourself amid real life responsibilities; telling the truth through amateur writing; the joys of RPF and her start in the U2 fandom; rejecting the shame of writing taboo topics, and why she likes writing about interesting, compelling characters versus ‘unproblematic’ more acceptable figures (BORING!)
Jeevey is also the fandom expert on Noel Gallagher’s pre-Oasis career as a roadie for the Inspiral Carpets, and his friendship (ahem) relationship, with the now legendary Mancunian Clint Boon. Jeevey chronicles a Clint/Noel romance in her beautiful ongoing work, “Transistor”.
We also mention Jeevey’s recent trip to the UK to see both Gallagher brothers in concert; a highlight of which was Jeevey’s front row view of High Flying Birds’ guitarist Gem Archer’s rather, er, overwhelming and impressive physical presents. PRESENCE, I mean!

Yes, I know. This is another celebrity podcast. The two factors that limit the number of celebrity podcasts is that podcasting is a lot harder than it sounds, and sadly some celebrities don't have much to say after their ten minutes in the chair on late-night TV with Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, or Stephen Colbert.
That doesn't mean that all celebrity podcasts are terrible. Sure, the ratio is high, but some have found a niche and use it well. The Smartless Media guys -- Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes -- are an example of celebrity podcasting done well. Then we have Goop, Snooki & Joey, any Kardashian show, and any show where the host is only semi-famous for hawking stuff on Instagram or TikTok.
Last week, iHeartPodcasts announced the return of actors Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson in season four of Sibling Revelry, which started on January 8th.
iHeart says: "The hilarious duo of sibling hosts is ready to take listeners on an even more amusing and engaging journey through the joys and challenges of family ties. Listen to the season four trailer here." In fairness to iHeart, I went and listened to eight episodes over three seasons and thoroughly enjoyed the show.
Here's why. I've always enjoyed both Hudsons as actors. They're versatile -- comedy, drama, movies, TV -- and they don't take themselves too seriously. Kate Hudson has recently become a spokesperson for the MyFitnessPal App -- Big Changes start with Small Steps fitness plan.
And, the Hudson siblings seem to know Kurt Russell, or better known as Snake Plissken in Escape from New York and Escape From L.A. In addition, the Hudson's have a nice gimmick for their show -- siblings interviewing other siblings. Again, I'll let iHeart take over: "Over their first three seasons, Kate and Oliver have captivated listeners with a collection of entertaining and inspirational stories, featuring a diverse group of guests, ranging from the Kardashian-Jenners, the Hiltons, Jenna Bush Hager and Barbara Bush, Stella and Mary McCartney and the Haim sisters to brothers Chad and Rob Lowe, Ron and Clint Howard and Matthew and Mike “Rooster” McConaughey, and other cultural icons including Tony Hawk, Jimmy Kimmel, Amy Schumer, Rob Gronkowski and many others, along with their siblings." My favorite episodes included the McCartneys, the Howard brothers, and the Lowe bros. In the new season of Sibling Revelry, Kate and Oliver Hudson (who also produce the podcast; iHeart wants you to know that) - will be joined by celebrity friends and real-life and fictional family members including the “Brady Bunch” brothers Barry Williams, Chris Knight and Mike Lookinland; Joel and Benji Madden; Jonathan and Jordan Knight from New Kids on the Block; Matthew, Joey and Andrew Lawrence; identical twins Brittany and Briana Deane Salyers and their husbands, identical twins Josh and Jeremy Salyers; among many others. According to iHeart, Sibling Revelry will also include bonus “Revel In It” episodes focusing on one-on-one interviews with thought leaders, authors, motivational speakers, and groundbreakers who inspire Kate and Oliver Hudson, such as Gabby Bernstein, Jenna Jameson and Roberto Canessa, to name a few. “Sibling Revelry with Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson” does have value for listeners because it explores the sibling bond, family dynamics, and universal tales of what it’s like to grow up with brothers and sisters.
Check out Sibling Revelry, not so much for the celebrity factor but for the compelling discussion of sibling dynamics. After all, celebrity feuds among siblings are among the most bitter and the saddest -- Joan Fontaine and Olivia DeHavilland, The Jonas Brothers, Noel and Liam Gallagher, and, of course, Thor and Loki.
It's possible that the Hudson siblings can help with resolving family conflict, which is a life problem we all deal with, whether we want to admit it or deny it.

2023: The Year in Green's Party
This was a historic year for my blog as it turned 10! In Jan. 2013 I began this blog as a way to share my thoughts on pop culture and since then I've gotten to do things I never even imagined would be possible: interviewing filmmakers, actors, musicians, authors and more; reviewing movies, music, concerts, books, and theater; covering conventions and film festivals; and connecting with fans who also have their hands on the pulse of pop culture at the moment and it's history. This was hands down one of my best years yet! Here are just a few of the highlights:

It was a sad year for Gen X: in May MTV News announced they were ceasing operations; and there was also the passing of Andy Rourke of The Smiths, Sinead O'Connor, and Paul Reubens, all staples of the 80s and 90s :(
The Police never ended: It's as if I got to see a Police reunion this year because I got to cover guitarist Andy Summers' concert in July, singer / bassist Sting's concert in September, and while I didn't see drummer Stewart Copeland live, I did get to cover his book The Police Diaries in October!
Tough year for physical media fans like me between Netflix ending it's DVD by mail service and Best Buy announcing they're going to stop selling DVDs. Time to go to my local library more often for DVDs and blu-rays!

No camera phones, no social media, just a band and its fans as one' -NOEL GALLAGHER On 10th and 11th August 1996, Oasis played the concerts that would define them, a band at the height of their powers playing to over 250,000 people. Twenty-five years on, this is the inside story of those nights, told through the breathtaking photographs of Jill Furmanovsky, granted unprecedented access to Oasis throughout that summer. Also includes newly obtained first-hand accounts from the people who were there - including Noel Gallagher and Alan McGee - in text by award-winning author Daniel Rachel.
