autistic castiel
I'm mostly confused. I'm not sure how orange correlates with black in a way that's new.

"As if Cas had been planning to stop by eventually. As if them meeting again was some kind of scheduled appointment. As if their story didn't get its very clear-cut ending seven years ago." Dean made his brother's wedding his top priority, and he has everything under control. No surprise, no headache, his to do list is set like clockwork. Until two days prior. When Cas shows up at Sioux Falls. Pushed towards the rearview and forced to look back on their past choices, will they manage to untangle their truth.. and find what they're truly longing for?
cw: Referenced (past) alcoholism ; Anxiety Attacks ; Daddy issues ; Canon level of physical violence - rated T
.
This fic is completed! I will drop a chapter every three days or so through February, for a total of 5 chapters and ~54k.

Claire gives Cas a haircut. It's fraught. This is a love that lasts forever. Here's the opening:
The room's tense. Most rooms with Claire in them end up being tense, Cas has found, although it may be the combination of he and Claire together that makes things this way. The only time he's heard her laugh - really laugh, not just an emphasised exhale - she had been three rooms away at Jody's house, before she knew Cas had come over. She makes him call ahead, now, so he hasn't heared it since.
There are memories, of course: the giggly little girl on the merry go round; the 11 year old pulling faces through the rearview mirror together until she couldn't keep it together from smiling too hard; the baby who opened her eyes from a nap and started laughing with delight just to see his face. But, those memories don't belong to Castiel. They're Jimmy's. To take courage or comfort from them would be a clear and cruel violation.
Claire in the present works on her denim jacket silently, repairing a tear from the wolf-man they'd hunted earlier with a thick, black thread. Her jacket is heavily patched, some repairs just thread and others covered over with logos and images. Cas had thought he recognised AC/DC in the mix, but when he'd pointed it out that morning Claire had just scoffed and rolled her eyes, so maybe he's wrong.
The way she sews is harsh, tugging the needle through the same way she pulled her knife out of the wolf-man's body. Cas has seen her do it gently before - stitching up a wound on Alex with precision and care even as they bickered viciously about who's fault it was that they'd got caught in the first place, and when applying a patch that Donna had got her that said "MAMA'S LITTLE BEAR <3" on it. Right now, though, she's mad. She has every right to be.

autistic castiel my beloved
he gently rocks back and forth when he’s feeling particularly content. this happens most often when he’s hanging out with dean or jack but on occasion will also happen with sam and eileen
he gets so excited when he sees dean he does a little hand movement. he wants to flap his hands excitedly but was told it’s a little weird (by a stranger, not his family) so instead he just opens and closes his fists by his side
he regularly repeats certain sounds he hears with scary accuracy. he hears a bird singing? he is repeating the sound with so much clarity it sounds almost exactly like the bird. multiple times he has accidentally attracted groups of birds by doing this, much to deans amusement
he has a really hard time understanding social cues. he’s gotten better the longer he’s been on earth but no matter how much he practices he still finds he can’t quite get it right. he has the easiest time reading jack and dean but even then he often gets confused about the complexities of their reactions.
it takes quite a bit to get cas overwhelmed but when he is he completely shuts down. he doesn’t move or talk or acknowledge anything happening around him. once he comes out of this state he has found it takes a lot of energy to speak and he often speaks with a stutter after a meltdown. he and dean have started using asl to help, and as an added bonus it helps them speak to eileen
jack and cas will often stim off each other. if jack is vocally stimming castiel will often repeat his stim. they will also pick up the other’s stims over time. for example jack would often make a low humming sound when content, and now castiel has started doing the same when content.

Iv been watching spn s12 and castiels experience is so painful and so relatable as an autistic person. He never feels like he belongs and when he tries to investigate in ep9 when Sam and dean are locked up he says
"I tried to work the case. I tried. But... I don't know what I did wrong. I... I asked questions, but maybe they were the wrong people or the wrong questions, and I just never found it. Never found the monster."
This was honestly one of the most painful things to hear as an autistic person. He always blames him self, why he does stuff "wrong" and why he fails on a seemingly easy task for others like Sam and dean.
The autistic subtext distant end here, even his investigation method is an masking based on how Sam and dean do it, with there aliases and the FBI badges. And he fails and he blames himself.
And even him sitting in a dark room obviously destressed, that's so me. When I'm stressed out light is a no-go, and him, with his face in his hands... It makes me want to cry.
Honestly, being autistic feels like this sm. Wai is them? Did I say something wrong? Or... Am I just... Not good enough.
Obviously this is not true, autistic, allistic y'all are amazing regardless. And castiels is great too.
But these struggles that castiels shows is just... so painfully personal.
I know autistic castie isn't everyone's cup of tea... But I can't stop thinking about how painful it must of been to feel like that. Like your failing in every single way.

A Destiel/Friends rip-off where Dean writes up a list of reasons why he shouldn’t be with Cas like Ross does with Rachel, but in the end Dean is like, fuck it, I love that little weirdo and I want to be with him!
The aforementioned list:
• He’s a dude
• Awkward
• Doesn’t get jokes
• Prone to fucking shit up
• Total flight risk
• Non-human
• Weird/embarrassing sometimes
Pros:
• he’s Cass
But when Dean tosses the list into the trash, he misses, and Cas comes across it, reads it and is, of course, devastated by it.
Rachel Cas: Imagine the worst things you think about yourself. Now imagine that the one person you trusted the most in the world not only thinks them too, but uses them as reasons to not be with you.
AND YOU DIDNT EVEN SPELL MY NAME RIGHT!?

I'm a firm believer in Cas having a lot of sensory issues with food. When he's human he struggles to find things he can actually eat. He tries so hard to eat Dean's food but he just can't deal with it and Dean starts making him seperate meals.

You see, I don't get that "explanation" people use whenever we talk about Castiel being autistic or autistic coded. People will say "oh, he's like that because he's an angel", like we haven't seen multiple other angels in the show and almost none of them act the same as Cas.
As far as I can see Cas is the only who had issues reading between the lines, understanding jokes, taking anything literally. And we can see him learning to see those patterns as the show goes on, but in essence, it seems he's the only angel that had to learn. All the rest just seemed to just get things with no issue.
The only other angel I can think rn that acted a little like that was Hannah.
So, no, I don't think Castiel is the way he is just because he's an angel. To me, he was always different the others.
