Companies using """"""""AI"""""""" chatbots in place of customer service (usually with a veneer of pretending you are actually speaking to a real person, which might not be so immediately obvious to more tech illiterate people) pisses me off so bad because they are just SO fundamentally useless. The only information it can tell you is information more efficiently communicated with a FAQ page, and information that is Wrong because current chatbot technology is, in fact, not even slightly 'intelligent' and pretty damn bad at giving accurate answers to anything but the simplest questions.

Like there's no point to it besides hoping onto the flashy artificial 'intelligence' gimmick and paying for less customer service work hours, and so many companies will not only have this feature but make their actual customer service prohibitively difficult to find (and usually involving a labyrinth of automated phone menu systems that you have to navigate correctly in order to get to a person). Makes me want to kill.

#Attempting to navigate support for Uber drivers (not as a customer but like as someone who is fucking working for the company)#is one of the most hellish experiences I have ever had #Because their easily accessible 'driver help' feature is a chatbot and their phone system probably qualifies as a form of torture #Literally you have to figure out the correct sequence of answers to get to a human by trial and error and it will hang up on you if you hit #any number of automated 'dead ends'#There was one time I didn't get paid for a really expensive delivery because the fucking app kept crashing and it's like they're under #the impression that their shitty fucking app is just Too Functional for that to be a potential problem so you have to outright lie to #the phone system to get to a human about this particular issue #Was pacing on the sidewalk for at least 45 minutes feeling the most homicidal I have ever felt in my life before I finally managed #to get to a human and then the answer was 'we can't help you' which like. Yeah #Yeah you can't can you. Yea

periodically people have to be reminded that you should be against these large generative ai models because its aggregate content theft and not because of like "laziness" or whatever

#like yes the arts are wildly devalued which #goes in hand with this push to replace us en masse with ai to cut labour costs #and its disgusting to see #but if someone says its making art accessible to disabled people. and you talk about a guy who learned to draw with his feet #you need to take a good hard look at yourself #it feels bad to encourage the automation of art when in popular culture so much of our work is devalued but #as an artist!!! i am lazy. i use 3d models i trace photos i use custom brushes #sometimes you just aint drawing all that. the Laziness thing is a bad argument #whats bad is feeling entitled to Take the work of others without permission to train generative models!!! thats the problem!!!#just bc you're taking stuff en masse it doesnt make it better than stealing from one person. thats not the same thng as inspiration shut up #i think technology and tools evolve and its cool that I've found thinvs that support me as an artist #its not fucking about the machine learning its about theft how many times do we have to teach you this lesson

y'all better hope and pray you never have to contact the thriftbooks customer service cause I am having a HELL of a time getting a response

#just trying to get a giftcard for my sister #and I'm getting an error message when I try to checkout #so I contacted customer support through their email form and didn't get a satisfactory response #I contacted their phone number and just got a bunch of automated options that didn't help #I contacted their chat support and was told to contact the cashstar gift card customer support #who told me to contact a different department #who then told me that they only deal with gift cards that have already been purchased #not errors with the website #and then directed me back to the thriftbooks customer service number with the automated options that are STILL NOT HELPFUL #I've submitted another email form cause that's my only option at this point #if they never get back to me I guess I'll just. tell my sister that I'll buy her whatever book she wants???

#sent in my name change documents a couple months ago. they changed my name but only for like. automated emails #and have not changed my name for my CREDIT SCORE which was the POINT #have gone back and forth multiple times with customer support in which they were completely unhelpful #only for one of them to be like ‘oh you actually need to call a different department.’ HELLO?????#why didn’t you say that the first time #why on earth would i want to change my name for only my online profile and not my ACTUAL CREDIT REPORT????#you have all the info and my documents and now i need to do it all AGAIN with a different department??????#i’ll kick your ass.#river talks

Some days I think I probably do need an actually trained service animal for mental health crap + the occasional chronic crap affecting my mobility.

But like…I don’t really want a dog. I want a Highly Trained mainecoon or norwegian forest cat. Just. This very large very fluffy very baseline breed intelligent cat known to take on BEARS (or, home invaders and men attempting SA).

I’d be THAT Crazy Lady walking this giant fluff monster most days, but other days just have my lap full of fluff when my hips-down don’t want to cooperate, or I need the comforting weight and fluffy company to hold the brain static at bay.

And some days…look. It hurts to grasp things. Or I risk dropping things. And cats can and will open cupboards and drawers if the handles let them hook their paws Just So to make up for the lack of opposable thumbs.

(Yeah yeah I know people are more accustomed to training dogs for this, but I’ve had quite a bit of luck training my “just housecats” as adults with various things, and people post the adventures they take with their mainecoons like, all the time…so think of what I could do with socializing and training a cat if I had the chance to do so.

(…also I just get along better with cats than dogs. They’re more tolerant to my need to not have a true routine. Also they poop in a box.)

#tiger’s musings #yesterday was…ugh. think my body was fighting off a minor respiratory illness #bUT because I’m also chronically ill + have to take an immunosuppresent it…was not good #like I kinda freaked my online friends out with what my symptoms were #but…I’m just. so used to this. so used to just holding onto walls because I get so unsteady and trying to sleep through these episodes #it’s…definitely Something. not ‘jUST psYCHoSOmATiC’ like I got gaslit into believing 5+ years ago #but…with what turned out to be AS and Probably a CTD and Currently Assumed IBS (but prolly also CTD imo)#I…hadn’t really had a chance to do more than ‘okay so I also have tremors’#but hey. I have to have my annual pcp visit so I’ll make myself whine about it and the fluttery/tight/visible chest&pulse issues then #(they’re probably related. POTS…kinda can cause high bp/tachicardia and sometimes tremors too.)#(and like. high bp is kinda something so common in my family in young adulthood it’s a ‘when’ vs ‘if’)#so…yeah. sometimes I think I might need some sort of chair and service animal #in addition to custom fitted compression globes #and probably compression shorts and spats and sleeves on my knees and elbows #aaaaand prolly custom arch supports. in addition to Nicer Shoes than an Okay $50 newbalance pair #which…yeah. you can see how all this would get Very Expensive Very Fast #(aaaaaaaand… hope I don’t idk. get dropped from my medicaid? listen they’re sending me automated messages to get my risk assessment done)#(and I’ve got so much going on that I would be Screwed even if I hadn’t aged out of my dad’s insurance)#(it definitely affects me being able to work and keep a job)

Aa someone in Customer Service / Technical Support, I can confirm that doing this is not going to get you anywhere. Most systems don't recognize that command (usually set that way intentionally) and will loop you back to the beginning or disconnect your call. My suggestion:

Say something short and sweet (billing, service out, new service, etc)

Visit the company's website / app and chat with a representative or request a call back

When you do eventually reach a representative, ask them for any tips for getting thru or around their automated system.

And lastly: Please don't take out your frustrations on the representatives. We have no control over the automated system and most of us are doing our best to help you.
