WIP Teaser 2: Aftermath

Alone in the hallway, Dean rubbed a hand across his face and tried to collect himself before going back in.

Castiel was in bed when Dean returned, lying perfectly still with his glassy eyes staring across the room, unseeing. Even the movement of his chest, rising and falling with every breath, was nearly imperceptible. The only true sign he was even awake was the creases in his brow and contortion of his face, tight with pain and exhaustion.

“You still with me?” Dean asked. Castiel blinked slowly and Dean took it as a yes. “You thirsty?” Cas blinked again. Dean gently slid his arm under Cas’ torso and lifted him up so that his head rested against Dean’s shoulder. Castiel groaned at the motion and Dean quietly shushed him, not really knowing what he was saying as he lifted the glass to Cas’ lips.

“You’re going to get dehydrated. I need you to drink a little bit more.” Cas complied and drank a few more sips. Dean lowered him down and Castiel made a soft whimpering sound, the kind of keening that came from the back of his throat and was only muffled by exhaustion. Dean ran his hand through Cas’ hair, talked softly, and offered reassurances to soothe him. Castiel mumbled a reply every now and again, sometimes in Enochian, sometimes in English, but rarely making sense. After a while, Castiel fell asleep, at which point Dean went out to see what progress Sam had made.

Around three in the morning, Dean’s sleep was interrupted by a shout, followed by Castiel sitting bolt upright in bed, eyes fixed on something on the other side of the room. He scrambled to get up, grabbing for his angel blade as Dean hurried to stop him.

Dean easily disarmed Castiel, whose grip was barely strong enough to hold the weapon. It clattered to the floor and Dean held Castiel tightly as he squirmed and fought, only loosening his grip as Castiel’s escape efforts stilled.

“They were in my room,” he mumbled insistently, shaking. “They were in my room.”

Dean ran a hand through Cas’ damp hair. He was hot. Too hot. “You’re safe. I’m the only one here.” Castiel mumbled a response into his shoulder, sounding unconvinced. “You’re sick, remember?"

Dean tried to ease Castiel back into bed, offering more reassurances, but Castiel resisted and shook his head despite his trembling limbs. “Come on, before you make yourself sicker.”

“No.”

“Cas…”

“No, Hannah.”

Dean froze.

“I…I don’t want to go,” he said, voice breaking. “Please. I…”

“Cas?”

“I miss you,” he mumbled, and Dean’s stomach dropped. “I miss Heaven, my family, but you’re all gone.”

“Okay,” Dean restarted slowly, thinking on his feet. “If you get in bed, I’ll go get Dean. How does that sound?”

Castiel nodded gently but then his eyes narrowed, and his voice hardened with bitterness. “Like last time? Are you here to break me again because I won’t give them up, I won’t—”

“No, no, no, Cas. Hey, Cas,” Dean tried again.

“I can’t do it again! I trusted you and you hurt me! You let them…” A raw sob tore free from his throat.

“Cas, buddy—”

“I trusted you!”

Castiel slumped down to the floor, hands covering his face as he made himself as small as he could.

“I trusted you, I trusted you, I…”

saw your tags and yes!!! you should totally watch midnight mass! it has a very slow beginning and yes there is a lot, like massive amout of religious stuff and characters sometimes talk in 40 minute long monologues that you're tempted to dast forward BUT ultimately it's a solid gorror story and the aesthetic is like a mix of kripke era spn and newest american horror story. im on ep 5 and i HIGHLY RECOMMEND. 💕
