i've never engaged with mcu or marvel comics in depth but the excerpts hit so hard,,,, the sudden vulnerability that natasha feels now without a purpose. as a weapon she knew how to hold herself, but now in freedom she has to test her own boundaries to see where she ended and where the world starts.
is your wip a no powers au specifically bc you wanted to focus on clint and natasha without bringing in the avengers? i am curious abt how you see clint and natasha's alliance with the avengers, whether it stunts their arcs in your mind (to be continued to be used by larger forces as weapons or if it's a calling they enjoy and have resigned themselves to), and what the endgame for them is in your mind (would they leave the avengers? stay? try to become civilians? be free agents separate from any sides?)
it's not because of the avengers, although later on it played a part, it's because i wanted to take out the more out-there elements of comics (magic, etc) to focus on the purely human aspects, there's no magic or long life or unrealistic physics, just the reality of a life led by damaged people who made mistake and try to right them. but also becuase i wanted to focus on nat and i couldn't do that properly if it was a fic about a group rather than one individual (clint was attached later, early on in the project because i realized how important they are for each other's arcs but still, the first idea was nat only)
i dont think the avangers stunt their arc, i think it's a necessary part that they grow past with time. mind u it's been years since i've read marvel and i never focused on the group stories, more on nat and clint's individual stories and while i know the avengers are important to both of them (in a way, it's how they prove to the world that they can do good, nat explicitly defects and leaves the room and kgb for them, clint starts to call himself a hero when he joins their rank, it's a fundamental part of their growth as characters, important to them both and they value it, given how much work and effort they give to the group in various storylines), i think as individual they've been working for and within organizations a lot, if not solely, so i think it's interesting to pull them out of that type of environment and see how they act when left on their own, with no guidelines or authority to follow or push back against, left to their own judgment. i imagine their lives, but especially this au, as a series of steps, each one needed to get to the next, and i wouldn't be able to reach the conclusion i want to if they did not go through a period of working with another organization
for me, the end goal would be for them to realize themselves in an independent way. i focus a lot on this story about how they're used, always, no matter the group they swear alliance to, and the main struggle is finding a way to exist outside of influences while true to themselves (truth is another big topic, learning to be honest with themselves first and foremost but also each other, it's always a staple of spy stories). by the time the epilogue arrives, they're leading civilian lives but they haven't forgotten their first career path and regularly go out to work on op, never hired merc, not anymore, but to do what they judge, on their own, to be right, partly because of a moral impulsion but mostly because they miss the adrenaline too much, and that too is something i have them wrestle with, that despite all the pain and sorrow they got from this life, they still love it, and they have to accept that they both do and don't miss it

Well I've been planning to do this for a while now and thanks to my wonderful mutual @merth-or-nothin who encouraged me, I'm going to be posting my analysis on the parallels between Avangers Infinity War and Season 4, the parallels between the characters, and my predictions for Season 5 based on Avengers Endgame.
Remembering that these films were in the inspiration board for season 4, so there may be many parallels. I don't know if anyone has done this before, but I'm going to post what I think might have been inspiration and how it might interfere with Season 5. My first post will be about the parallels between the characters. I hope you all like it, it's been a while since I do analysis here and I'm gonna talk about my favorite show and my favorite saga, so... I'm excited? 🥺

Is it good/bad/expected?
eh we'll know more after this weekend. $21 mil (which is what they're projected to get) isn't really a lot in comparison to some other big, popular movies. Avangers Endgame made more than $300 mil opening weekend. Zootopia made more than $70 mil, The Lego Movie made $69 mil, Inception made $62 mil

Avatar vs Avengers: Endgame
I know I’m very late in the game when it comes to talking about how Endgame surpassed James Cameron’s Avatar. In fact, I’m a year late. But since this new excitement about Avatar 2, I’ve been brought back to the movie. Since 2017 when I first saw Avatar, I’ve watched it occasionally every few months (or sometimes several times in a month… and one time I watched it twice in one day.) and it has grown to be one of my all time favorite movies.
Surprisingly, I saw Endgame in theaters with a group of friends. Personally, I’m not into too many superhero action movies like Marvel or DC, but there was huge hype over this film after Infinity War, which I actually enjoyed. But, I wasn’t a huge fan of Endgame. I've only seen it two times after watching it in the theaters, and a month ago I tried watching it again after getting Disney Plus, but I couldn’t make it past the beginning.
I know you can’t really compare these two movies since they’re totally different genres of film, so instead of talking about why Avatar is better than Endgame, I’m going to write about the top three reasons Avatar’s a great movie.
1) The setting
The reason why Avatar became one of the highest grossing films in my opinion, is the world of Pandora. The environment is so unique and unreal, it’s incredible. The setting in Avatar makes the movie stand out from other popular films.
When creating the world around the Avatar film, Dr. Jodie S. Holt, the botany consultant for the movie, had the idea that since the forest was so dense, the plants could create their own light. “The idea that there is fairly low light could conceivably allow plants to evolve bioluminescence.”
As many times as you’ve seen the movie, you can always watch it again and still be amazed by the forests of Pandora.

2) Original movie
Unlike some of the highest grossing films like Jurassic World, Star Wars, and of course Avengers: Endgame, Avatar is an original movie. It’s not a sequel or prequel to any existing film. For being only one movie, making the highest grossing film for almost a decade is incredible.
Not only is it original in that sense, but it’s also original when it comes to the actual story. Although it has very similar plot to some older movies, it has details that have never been in film before, such as the incorporation of the tsaheylu (the bond), The Tree of Souls, the Woodsprites and just the overall culture. These details bring the movie way farther than any film has gone before. Instead of having a flat story about an alien race, James Cameron and his team were able to build this never before seen culture that really makes Avatar a great movie.
3) It’s contribution to technology in modern day cinema
Originally, James Cameron wrote Avatar back in 1994 but the technology to make the movie work was not yet ready. So after waiting nearly a decade, in 2005, he started testing. While filming and working with Weta Digital, they created a camera that’s attached to a small boom that captures the face of each actor. This would allow animators to have a closer view to accurately replicate expressions, than the actual motion capture cameras. This same technique would be later used in movies like The Hobbit for Gollum, and Steven Spielberg’s, Tintin. Their work on Avatar proved that motion capture and CGI could be heavily used in movies and still look realistic.
I praise movies that opened up a new path for modern film. Some of the motion pictures we love today could not be possible if it weren’t for some directors to step out of their comfort zone. That’s why I think movies like Jurassic Park and Lord of the Rings are such great films. Steven Spielberg was one of the first directors to use CGI in a movie instead of stop motion animation and The Lord of the Rings was one of the first to use motion capture, which would also be used in Avatar.

(Behind the scenes of Avatar and Avatar 2)
Altogether, Avatar is an amazing movie. The setting and environment are extraordinary, the details in the story make the whole movie unique and unlike any film that has been produced since. And although I have some bias, I think Avatar is better than Avengers: Endgame. I know you can’t really compare the two, but some point in the future, I may do a longer and more detailed post about why it’s better, but in the meantime I’ll be waiting on Avatar 2!
