Avari cities whose entire populace all faded thousands of years ago.
The gates are open, yet you know you are watched as you walk in.
Surely that is the sound of a bustling marketplace around the bend? But no, you reach the square and its empty of life. The stalls are open, but none sell food.
You take a wooden knickknack from one stall. As you walk away you feel— thiefthiefshameguiltyguiltyTHIEF
You double back and leave a coin. The pressure fades.
On the counter of the inn is a mug of fresh beer, waiting for you. You leave a coin. No, two coins. This was generous.
You sit at an empty table and do not feel alone. You can almost hear the bawdy singing and smell the roasting pork.
The ale tastes like the farm in the dells where you danced with your husband in the wheat fields and kissed him below the endless stars and the bedroom where you promised your eternal soul to his and the floorboards he cut himself that you buried his empty shell under and the green door you closed behind you for the last time as you set out for something new and the eastward breeze that sometimes carries his voice out of the Uttermost West and the answers you’ll never give him
You were never married. You’re not thirsty anymore.
As you lie down in an empty room, nothing wishes you peaceful dreams.
You wake up. The bed is a mound of dirt. The inn is dust. The marketplace is stones and overgrowth. The gate is closed. The walls about it are gone.
In what might have been the rot of the stall you visited, no copper gleams. You take the toy you purchased from your pocket. The paint is still unchipped.
You leave through what might have been a watchtower, once. Remember, you do not hear it say.

Elves in lothlorien, rivendel, the harbors: the elves of mirkwood are so isolated from the world, they hate outsiders.
Elves of Greenwood the great (thank you very much): *routinely trade with their human neighbors.*
Elves of Greenwood: *used to do business with the dwarves in the next door mountain before the dragon came, and continued business when smaug was killed.*
Elves of Greenwood: *have a yearly celebration with the different avari groups that lasts 10 days.*
Elves of Greenwood: no, we’re not isolated. We just don’t like you.

Elvers:
Masterlist
Eldar:
Vanyar:
About: The Vanyar are the smallest host of Eldar, and were all blessed by Manwe who gave them gifts of poetry and song. All Vanyar have + 2 when using their voice, for singing or convincing others and advantage on Intelligence. They prefer to fight with spears and have white banners in battle. They are residents of Oiolossë and Valimar. They speak Sindarin (common) and Quenya (the Vanyar dialect). If they were born in Valinor they glow in the dark meaning enemies might spot them.
Description: The Vanyar all have golden hair.
Noldor:
About: The Noldor is the second host of the Eldar. Noldor means those who know, showing their thirst for knowledge. They are known for being the most skillful of the Eldar hosts and were loved by Aule, whom they learned from. Their most known skills include developing their language, building castles and towns, gem cutting, and smithing. They are also infamously known as being the proudest of the Elvers. They have advantage in Intelligence and Wisdom. As a Noldor you can be devoted to any of the Valar except Namo. They favor swords and shields above other weapons. They are residents of Tirion, Formenos, Nevrast, Hithlum, Gondolin, Nargothrond, Dorhonion, All East Beleriand, and Lindon (all over Beleriand these are just the most known of). They speak Sindarin (common) and Quenya. If they were born in Valinor they glow in the dark meaning enemies might spot them.
Description: The Noldor are known for their black (dark) and a few times red hair, and grey eyes. They are about 7 feet tall.
Teleri:
About: The Teleri is the third and largest host of the Eldar who moved to Valinor. They are known for their fair voices, which they were once named after. They have advantage in Intelligence and Charisma. They are residents of Alqualondë, Isle of Balar, Ossiriand, Doriath, Tol Eressëa, and Mithlond. They speak Sindarin (common), Quenya, Telerin, and Nandorin. If they were born in Valinor they glow in the dark meaning enemies might spot them.
Description: They are known for their mostly silver, and at times dark, hair, and some were said to have skin so pale it was described as white.
Falmari (Sub-Race of the Teleri): The Falmari were the Teleri who took the Great Journey into Beleriand and reached Valinor, and are known for their ships. They are residents of Alqualondë and Tol Eressëa. They speak Sindarin (common), Quenya, and Telerin.
Sindar (Sub-Race of the Teleri): The Sindar, also known as the grey Elvers are good singers, woodsmen, and shipbuilders. Their hair is usually dark. They are residents in Doriath, the Falas, and Nan Elmoth (all over Beleriand these are just the most known of). They speak Sindarin (common).
Nandor (Sub-Race of the Teleri): The Nandor is the Teleri who turned aside from the Great Journey to the Misty Mountains, they are described as having white skin, and dark or brown hair, and are great lovers of nature and animals in the dark and deep forests, and are a very secretive folk. They are called green Elvers. They are farmers out from their name Nandor which means farmer. They are residents of Lothlórien, as the first people there, Greenwood the Great (although that´s first mentioned in the second age, they where the first residents there so they probably where there in the first age too), Belfalas, Ithilien, might have been the first there, and Ethir Anduin, as the first people there. They speak Sindarin (common), Silvan Elvish, and Nandorin (their own language). If you play as a Nandor you automatically have an Elven Cloak (a cloak that can blend into any form of environment and gives you +3 on stealth).
Silvan (Sub-Race of the Nando): Silvan, also known as wood Elvers, are rivals to Dwarves, and descending of the Nandor who choose to live in the Vales of Anduin. They are residents of Lothlórien, Ithilien, Edhellond, Greenwood the Great, and Belfalas. They speak Sindarin (common) and Silvan Elvish (their own langue). If you play as a Silvan you automatically have an Elven Cloak (a cloak that can blend into any form of environment and gives you +3 on stealth).
Avari (Moriquendi):
About: The Avari, or unwilling according to the Vanyar and Noldor, where the Elvers who refused to take the great journey. Some of them are said to know dark magic (following the letters and drafts it´s either song or rune magic (you can choose only one if playing an Avari)) and others where said to be corrupted by Morgoth or having turned savage in the wild, and their biggest rivals are said to be the Eldar. What is known about them is that they lived in tribes with unique and private cultures and rituals, some big others small, consisting of usually family, although only six tribes are mentioned; Kindi, Cuind, Hwenti, Windan, Kinn-lai, Penni. They are residents of Eriador, Rhûn, Taur-Im-Duinath, and the Vales of Anduin. They speak Sindarin (common) and various Avarin languages (their own languages).
Description: Nothing is said about how they look.
Pros: They have advantage in Dexterity, Constitution,  history, and arcane rolls. They have darkvision and can´t get sick, they are also immune to the spell sickness unless it´s a powerful Ainur who cast it.Cons: A lot of other races can be hostile against them, they are also hostile to each other, and a lot of the time won't want to make alliances. Elvers are also all stubborn, and usually convinced they are the only ones who are right. All Elvers take a quarter more damage in psychic attacks than other races.

Fish of the March of Maedhros
Flora, fauna, geography and environment masterlist
Two prominent rivers run in the March of Maedhros. Southeast of the Hill of Himring in the foothills of the March is the river Celon, a tributary to the river Aros which itself is a tributary to Sirion. Upon the hill of Himring is a spring from which flows little Gelion, the stream that meets Gelion to form one of the seven rivers of Ossiriand.
A variety of freshwater fish can be found in these rivers. I also headcanon there is at least one lake where fish are found and sometimes caught.
Note: due to differences in proximity to the sea, temperature, and unknown factors, such as speed of water, even more than my other animal posts. A lot of these are going to be approximations on real species and their morphology and behavior rather than exact replicas so just keep that in mind. I also headcanon that the March is a strange place.
As I will, as always, I will include some world building notes at the bottom!
Found in the upper reaches of Celon: (a species similar to) giant Siberian trout, freshwater cod, freshwater lamprey (river and brook), white eyed bream, common barbel
Found in little Gelion: rainbow trout, common bream (in slower stretches), common bleak, riffle minnow (slow stretches), common minnow
Both: freshwater eels, Cottus koshewnikowi, asp, freshwater sculpin, alpine bullhead, silver carp
Found in lakes: Arctic char, dwarf sculpin, Abyssocottus elochini, red sculpin, Omul, Coregonus maraena, ide, other minnow species
The lakes, ponds and deeper rivers of the March also contain stranger creatures including iridescent eels, creatures between fish and something else, shadowed giants never seen in their full size and more
World building notes:
-Fish are eaten in the March, both fresh and salted. Indeed dried or salted fish is rare in other elven realms (however both dwarven and human cultures have it more frequently). Roe is also eaten
-Fresh fish are usually served at Himring and in the smaller outposts throughout the March. Scouts often take dried fish in their satchels but rarely catch them as they are highly trained to be inconspicuous and avoid fires to cook
-Fishing in the March is done throughout the year however it can be extremely dangerous during the winter. There are those among Maedhros’s host who particularly enjoy the risk and return yearly to the icy waters.
-Fish are primarily seasoned with salt and with local herbs such as garlic chives, lovage,Rarer dishes might involves dried bay leaves from Nevrast or thyme, primarily from Ossiriand and Dorthonion, pepper from the Ered Luin, and imported wines, also from Ossiriand, Nevrast, and Thargelion
-Trout appear in Avarin lore as guides and are not eaten by them.
-Some of the strange creatures including fish that are native to the March later appear in sigils, heraldry, and art created by the host of Maedhros

I really can't imagine how stupid the Avari must have thought the Noldor (and not without reason).
"So you leave Middle Earth right when it becomes safe(ish) and then you return at the exact moment morgoth sets up shop here again???"

Turindë (OC)
She is the ruling queen of the Avari in the Valinorian Years Verse. She lives in a palace near the coast of the lake Cuiviènen and is one of the oldest elves alive. She is crowned with the fire crown, the symbol of light and indipendece of the Avari, who most of all battle the creatures of the darkness and cherish all fire and warmth. She wears flaming jewels and a dark blue dress that is adorned with stars, that were the only natural light for the longest time.

Obsessed with the idea that the avari have just this whole history and culture that is so vast and the sindar and valinorian elves just have no idea about.
Until Legolas or someone mentions smth like “Emperor Alriv of the Arun Elves” and they go:
“Wait- WHAT-“

About Aule...
I always feel there is something more about him. I...can't explain.
His Maias are the 'rebels' (Saruman and Sauron).
He disobeyed Eru and Dwarves were born, then nearly killed them later if Eru haven't decided to spare them.
He's the Valar of craft, which is very important to Feanorians and even others Finwes's story, its similar to creation.
Valinor's culture must be kinda toxic and I think that goes for craft. Like the Catholic Church? The restrictions in creativity and blasphemy?
Again, I pity Avari so much for begin forced into that Paradise wannabe.
