In the Fire Nation, the amount of golden marks are a sign of status. Only the Royal Family can afford to seal every single wound with Kintsugi. Such is the weight of this tradition that, among the ones with Agni's blood, it is the highest mark of dishonor to have a natural scar, for it proves you aren't worthy of the privilege.

After the Agni Kai, Ozai forbid Zuko's scar to be sealed with Kintsugi. The boy wasn't worth his title, his traditions or his pride. Zuko would be broken, but he wouldn't be beautiful. Not anymore.

(And sometimes it's easier to pretend he never was)

Aang is of course thrilled that Zuko keeps showing up (as the Blue Spirit mind you) whom Sokka and Katara still DO NOT know is Zuko

until at some point Zuko shows up preemptively, only has to wait like 15 mins for Aang to go off towards where Zuko knows is a trap laid for him, and literally drags Aang back to the water sibs by the ear and starts yelling at him to STOP WONDERING AROUND ALONE YOU DUMBASS CHILD. HOW DO YOU KEEP GETTING CAUGHT? DO YOU HAVE NO SENSE OF SELF PRESERVATION?? NO SURVIVAL INSTINCTS AT ALL???

(sokka and Katara are like "Zuko!!! >:(" meanwhile Aang is like "Zuko!!! :DDD")

What if Huamei and Lee met at the fancy party? Neither one can afford to give away the other- katara has to keep her eyes on the prize while they look for the king, and that Long Feng guy has been looking for an excuse to cause problems. Zuko has to keep a low profile for similar reasons.

But that doesn't mean she can't give him shit and interrogate him while he's forced to serve tea.
