I know Titanic is sad, but did you know that in Japan cutting your hair means moving on from the past? Tradition that comes from Edo period, as Samurai would chop their chonmage when they stepped away from their title, starting a new life. So Eiji's very 90s-grungy hairstyle was a symbolic resource to show his complicated grief from Ash.

Hii, I'm drunk but I've thought about this for a while, would y'all like a writing contest? It can be about any fictional couple or even with any of your own characters. I will be the judge and if any of you want, you can also be the judge with me and we will talk in private and see how to count the points.
So basically, I will decide a theme and what it should be about, but if you're interested, you should comment down bellow if you have any ideas:
if you want it to only be avavar related
If you want it to be any couple/characters from any show (but I'll write the titles of the animes and cartoons I have seen to make it fair)
If you want it to be only with ocs(own characters)
If you want it mixed
I'll tag random people that may be interested, pls don't be mad and if i had any mistake I'm drunk af
And English is my second language
Now I'll go check on my even drunker friend that is flirting with some random guy, I'll respond in like 12 hours
But I'm serious, it's been on my mind for days

Kyoshi Novels’ Parallels: Kyoshi and Airbending
One of the many reasons The Rise of Kyoshi deserves a re-read is just how faithful F. C. Yee is to the original mythos of Avatar The Last Airbender, and the way he deepens and explores it. In the scene where Kyoshi learns airbending, F. C. Yee creates a slight parallel to Aang mastering the Air chakra in The Guru (2x19), beautifully capturing the moment in which Kyoshi learns to let go of her grief over her lost Air Nomad father figure:
“Rangi made a little snort. “You know I miss him too?” she murmured. “Master Kelsang. He was so kind and funny. Sometimes when I find myself missing him, I feel guilty that I’m not thinking about my father instead. I wish they were both here. I wish everyone we’ve lost could be here with us, one last time.” Kyoshi squeezed her tight. She imagined Rangi’s energy twining together in place with her own, forming a stronger thread from two strands. There was a tickle against her brow. She and Rangi looked up to see a swirling dance of leaves, spinning around in a circle, the two of them caught in its eye. Kelsang used to make her laugh in the garden like this, by swirling the air, letting her touch the currents and feel the wind run between her fingers. Kyoshi let the breeze play against her skin before giving it a gentle push with her hand. The wind spun faster at her request. She could feel Kelsang smiling warmly at her, a final gift of love. “They’ll always be with us,” she said to Rangi. “Always.”
In this scene, we see a perfectly symmetrical parallel to the scene where Aang learns to master the air chakra. In letting go of her grief over Kelsang and embracing her newfound connection with Rangi, Kyoshi accepts Kelsang’s final gift and airbends for the first time, much in the same way that Aang letting go of the Air Nomads and embracing his love for Katara allows him to master the air chakra. In this callback, Yee creates a beautiful moment in The Rise of Kyoshi for Kyoshi to move past the pain that defined her for the third quarter of the book, a moment that both stands alone and works as wonderful commentary on the original scene in The Guru.
Rewatching this scene, I was surprised by how the clouds of air swirl around Aang and lift him up, swirling from images of Air Nomads to Katara. I had never quite noticed how Air here is taken to represent love and community, but with The Rise of Kyoshi, this becomes obvious - the spinning currents of wind becomes a reminder of her love for Kelsang, as well as a new memory she makes with Rangi early in their romance. The two scenes complement and develop one another gorgeously, deepening the connection between Kyoshi and Aang as the same soul in different lifetimes.

I've been inspired by a gifset from @zuzuthefirelord to write this quick lil meta, so I wanted to credit them for the gifset. it should be the post right under this one. anyway, let's get started!
when iroh taught zuko about the elements and their specific qualities he said: "fire is the element of power, earth is the element of substance, air is the element of freedom, water is the element of change."
looking at the prominent villains of avatar, this can be applied to them as well. what do we know about these villains?
fire is the element of power. it can be dangerous, even deadly. ozai was a typical imperialist. he wanted to conquer the earth kingdown and turn it into his empire. he simply sought power. (I think you can see where I'm headed with this.)
earth is described as the element of substance. earthbenders are often characterized as being stubborn. earth is harsh yet stable. this reminds me of kuvira. she's someone who wanted nothing more than to bring peace to the earth kingdom after it was left in chaos. yet the way she chose to find that peace, through tyranny, was wrong. she wanted stability and control.
the air nomads have always been the most tolerant people. they lived in harmony with nature and each other. they believed in freedom for everyone. the way that zaheer turns the philosophy of the air nomads on its head is really interesting. he trusts in their core beliefs, he wishes for freedom. zaheer doesn't believe in institutions. he doesn't believe certain people should have power over others. he wanted freedom but he wanted it through chaos because in his mind, chaos IS freedom. chaos is the natural state.
so we are left with water. waterbenders are known to both, evade and attack. just in a different way. they use the attacks of their opponents against them. water is always moving, it's the element of change. let's look at amon. his father taught him how to bloodbend when he was a little child, which turned amon into a cold and isolated individual. after learning these things, amon realised that benders shouldn't be oppressing non-benders. he believed they shouldn't be able to bend at all. he essentially used what his father taught him (to control living beings through bloodbending) and turned it against him (he literally bloodbent his father). but he took it one step further. amon used his bending ability to suppress other people's bending ability. amon wanted social change, equality for benders and non-benders. and he believed that they could only ever be on an equal playing field if all benders became non-benders. this is a direct parallel to socialism (in some core ways). crush the bourgeoisie, overthrow the ones who oppress you.
these little things all shape these characters. the way how they are all reflected in their element just shows how beautiful the writing for these two shows was. everything is connected, everything has a purpose. i just love avatar so much okay.

Can we talk about this for a sec
Tumblr media
Tonraq and Senna - supportive parents, what more could you ask for ? Wish I had those ... Anyway, still so sweet and lovely.
Kya- yes,of course she knew they were together. The gaydar works perfectly 👌🏽
Bolin,Opal and Jinora- aren't they amazing ? So sweet and supportive. I also love Bolin with the "double date" thing.
Mako- poor boy. A bit shocked but still cares and loves them.
Tenzin- Tenzin...you moron...first you let Lin go for someone else, and second you missed the opportunity to say " I'm very happy for you, BI the way!" BI the way , Tenzin, BI the way.
Lin- my favourite reaction from all. She's like "yeah, sure...*oh shit ,i have to pretend i didn't know. let's focus on the report and they won't notice*" She knew about them before I'm sure.

chief (hakoda x reader)
requested by anon “I love your Hakoda x reader gaining Katara’s trust, could you do more of this ship? Maybe reader is bonding with Sokka, Bato, and the rest of Hakoda’s crew and just showing that she can keep up with the guys? Thank you! Your writing is incredible!!”
summary when you, a northern water tribe peacemaker, is sent to help his fleet, hakoda is worried that the men won’t respect you since you’re a woman. you prove him wrong quickly.
a/n catch that REFERENCE at the end my guys
Tumblr media
gif cred belongs to @avatarparallels
when you and hakoda first met, he was a little scared for you. you had introduced yourself as a northern water tribe peacemaker, there to help the remnants of the southern water tribes with supplies and guides through the nations.
you held yourself with confidence and nothing but sureness as you spoke to his fleet. your words were honest and comforting, and he could tell that his men were listening intently. but you were a woman. the only one they had ever seen in a leadership position amongst water tribes.
hakoda was terrified for you. but he was soon shown that there was no reason for him to be.
hakoda had been leading you around their camp, showing you the behind the scenes of their planning. you two had been walking peacefully when you noticed bato presenting a map to a few men. you approached slowly.
bato paused when he noticed your presence amongst his small crowd. you held up a peaceful hand. “please, don’t mind me. continue.” bato gave you a nod before continuing.
when he had finished his presentation and the men had dispersed, bato approached you and asked, “what did you think of the plan?”
“very well written,” you nodded. “however.. may i?” you gestured toward the chalk he had been using to lightly draw over the map.
“please,” he nodded politely, stepping out of the way. you stepped forward and began to mark.
“you are very clever to leave one boat hanging behind,” you acknowledged, “in situations of retreat, it’s essential. even more so in terms of back up. that’s why i think there should be two boats trailing.” bato leaned closer as you explained, “that way, in case of retreat, one can sail away quickly to try to preserve men and materials, while the other can hang behind to gather survivors from knock-offs and whatnot. also..”
hakoda smiled as other men began to gather, all listening as you perfected the fleet’s next invasion plan. he started feeling a little embarrassed for worrying about you before.
when sokka finally arrived, hakoda’s heart was nearly full. but for another moment, remembering young sokka’s habits, he worried that he may disrespect your presence once you’re introduced.
“hakoda,” you called when you noticed him and sokka walking around camp. “i see you’ve picked up a new warrior.”
“chief y/n, this is my son, sokka,” hakoda introduced. sokka bowed his head.
“it’s great to see you again, chief,” sokka greeted.
“and you, as well, warrior,” you chuckled, tipping your head slightly to the southern boy.
“you two know each other?” hakoda scoffed in delighted surprise.
“why, of course,” you grinned. “your son was one of the foremost runners in the battle against the fire nation in the north. if it weren’t for him and his friends, the north never would have survived.” sokka took in your compliments with beaming, smug pride. “not to mention he inspired the north to send me down to aid your cause. warrior sokka is a young inspiration.” you nudged hakoda with your elbow. “i wouldn’t be here without your son. in more ways than one.”
hakoda swelled with pride in that moment.
two weeks later, hakoda grinned at you as you entered his tent. but your expression was far from delight. “what’s wrong?” he immediately asked, standing and crossing the way to lay a comforting hand on your arm.
“i just received word that i am needed back in the north,” you explained, as professionally and strongly as you could, but hakoda could hear the sigh laced in your words. you presented a scroll to him, which he immediately snatched and inspected.
with his hand still on your arm, hakoda looked up to you. “im sorry to hear that.”
you nodded solemnly. “they sent their ship two weeks ago. it is only a matter of days until they get here.”
“you don’t seem happy to return home,” hakoda sympathized. “here, let’s sit.”
once you two had sat yourselves across from each other, you explained, “i apologize for my solemnity. it is just... this place grew on me. these warriors, these battles.. their outstanding leader.” hakoda offered you a flattered smile. “i am genuinely going to miss my time here.”
hakoda reached across to take your hand. “and we’ll miss you just as much.” you gave him a gentle smile. “know that you’re always welcome in the south, y/n.”
“thank you, hakoda,” you spoke genuinely, squeezing his hand. but before anything else could be done, the tent flap ripped open to reveal bato.
“sorry to interrupt, chiefs,” the warrior spoke, eyeing your hands as they slid away from each other’s, “but we’re about to go over strategy, if you would like to sit in.” you both stood.
“of course, warrior.”
it was two days later when your ship arrived. you gave a farewell speech to warriors you had spent your previous few months with, thanking them for welcoming you and inspiring them to carry on with their excellent work. hakoda helped you load your things onto the ship.
“all set?” hakoda asked after you had walked him back to the land.
“should be,” you nodded. “thank you again, for the wonderful experience, hakoda.”
“my pleasure,” he smiled. “can i tell you one last secret?”
you arched an eyebrow. “do tell.”
“when you first arrived, i was worried my men wouldn’t respect you,” he admitted. “the south had never had a woman chief, and i wasn’t sure how they would react. but im glad they accepted you, and.. im embarrassed for being worried.”
“don’t be,” you smiled, shaking your head at him. “i know it’s a newer concept, but im glad to see it’s becoming easier to accept. your men see me as a chief, but im a woman, too.” you leaned forward and planted a kiss on hakoda’s cheek, catching the chief off guard. you gave him a kind smile. “good bye, hakoda.”
he watched you walk away sadly, feeling like a teenager on the inside.

The Pro-Bending Fire Team ━━  The Sun Dragons  火
Azlon, Ryota, Kwan, and Taiyang
These four were unlikely teammates. They each share firebending similarities, however, their backgrounds reflect different walks of life. Together they have a shared fascination with dragons and grow to see them and the sun as pure sources of bending (thanks to Taiyang’s influence). The team leader is Azlon, he had been on a few other four element pro-bending teams and long desired to be on a fire only team. Ryota has only ever been on pro-bending fire teams. Kwan is a fan of the sport but had never belonged to a team himself. Taiyang, well she had never heard of pro-bending much less been a fan.
Azlon, age eighteen, the oldest member of the Sun Dragons. He was born and raised in Republic City to two firebenders. Azlon is proud of his strong Fire Nation heritage, his name even reflects previous Fire Lords. Azlon has spent countless training sessions, years of his life, preparing for fights in the arena. He has not learned the traditional or Sun Warrior style of firebending. He only uses the modern sporting forms. Azlon is not the strongest bender on the team, however, he is devious and will operate in the morale grey zone to achieve his goals. He has great skills in strategy, assessing opponents, and manipulating the situation to suit his needs. He is highly selective and likes to monopolize his gains. Azlon is a natural leader and seeks to win the Pro-Bending Fire Tournament.
Ryota, age seventeen, the second oldest member of the Sun Dragons. He was born and mostly raised in the Fire Nation (in Fire Fountain City). When he was fourteen he moved to Republic City where he lived a wealthy lifestyle. Both of his parents are diplomats for the Fire Nation to the United Republic. Aside from Taiyang, he is the strongest bender on the team. Ryota desires to learn the purest form of firebending and knows that the modern Pro-Bending influenced style derives from the old ways but he still seeks to learn more. Ryota is generally quiet and reserved. His personality is introverted mixed with a white-grey moral compass.
Kwan, age sixteen, the third oldest member of the Sun Dragons. He has had a troubled life- often plagued with times of hunger and anger. In his childhood he had to resort to thievery to avoid starvation for him and his younger siblings. Kwan’s father was a firebender and his mother a non-bender. They would often leave Republic City to sell their merchandise, having Kwan run their small shop. They would typically only be gone for a week or two at most to reach other traders and return with money and special goods. One day they didn’t come back, leaving their three children to fend for themselves. Eventually the kids couldn’t run the shop anymore and were cast out into the streets. Since then Kwan has had to defend them and try to earn a living in the Pro-Bending Arena. Generally he is overly defensive, always worried, black-grey moral compass, and has developed many acrobatic skills.
