‘Oh please you think I DRAGGED them down? In all my years as a so-called villain, I was never in jail. I’ve never worn a polyester jumpsuit. I’ve never been without heels. I’ve been dragged down like no one else.’
Well, she’s right.
From AvX consequences # 3 by Kieron Gillen and Scot Eaton.
The Extinction Era concludes y’all.

what do you think are the most important issues/arcs for understanding scott as a character?
idk! i think scott is a pretty consistent character, in that i think you can go a lot of places for understanding.
some things that are coming to mind for me right now are the cyclops issue of marvel snapshots, by jay edidin and tom reilly, and uncanny x-men #144 (the d'spayre issue!!!!). i also think louise simonson writes a pretty interesting cyclops in x-factor, though some people really hate him there, bc he is largely being a dick. i also think bitter sacrifice (and kind of just x-factor #65-68) are issues i use to think about scott a lot? x-factor annual #2 is a great issue for scott hypocrisy moments if you want those.
ALSO: kieron gillen's siege (issues 1-4) features an au scott who nevertheless i think embodies a lot of what i think of as scott thematics? so there's that. also just avx consequences. it's good.
sorry i know i didn't really answer your question. but i feel like these books are ones that i return to a lot when thinking about scott, and that inform a good amount of my read on him.

Any chance you have a revolutionary Scott reading order?
I have been pondering this all day and the short answer is: good fucking luck lmao. Trying to decide the best place to start here has been a real nightmare and there are a LOT of crossover events throughout this timeline. Hypothetically you could just start with avx but I feel like if you're really willing to put the time and energy in it's worth it to go back further. And also all of this is definitely stuff that probably wasn't THAT well executed, it just feels better under the blur of nostalgia.
So im summary: if you want more background you can start at the beginning of this list. If you'd rather jump ahead and maybe go back later (valid) start at avx.
Utopia
After thinking about it I guess this is the best place to start? Linked is the tpb which as far as I can tell gives all the background to all the mutants moving to an island near San Francisco that they call utopia post house of M. Tldr: mutant population has been severely cut down, they are still hated and feared, and Scott decided this is the best way to keep them safe. These mutants really like their islands.
Second Coming
We jumped ahead quite a bit here but I feel like second coming is a good branch into what comes next. Again this links to a tpb bc it is yet another crossover. This is all about Hope (first mutant born after house of M) and cable coming back from the future and the xmen trying to protect her. Important bc Hope is v important for avx. If you want more hope background between this and schism check out "Generation Hope"
Prelude to Schism & Schism
Once again jumping around. Cyclops and Wolverine have an epic divorce over ideological differences. This ends with Scott on the island and Logan starting the school again. I would say this is probably the real turning point to where Scott begins to be viewed as a "villain"? He's certainly more radical by the end of this.
Wolverine & the X-Men & Uncanny X-Men
After the divorce the main x-books were split between these 2. I believe you can go to like issue 9/10 of each before avx really starts. Idk you'll probably know when you get there.
Avengers vs X-Men
Woo baby here we go! The avx "complete" reading order is a mess that goes across like 25 different books. You can just read the main book let's be honest here.
Avengers vs X-Men: Consequences
Exactly what is sounds like. We are now firmly into radical revolutionary Scott.
Tumblr media
Uncanny X-Men (again)
Scott makes a new team under his new philosophy. I believe this continues running alongside the rest of Wolverine & the X-Men.
After this we start to get very muddy. This is when the o5 came back to the future and we've got Uncanny X-Men (above), Wolverine & the X-Men (also above) and All New X-Men all running at the same time and constantly overlapping. And after that is where I definitely lost the plot lmao.
Death of X
I'm sure there's a lot that happened between this and the last thing but this is really the only thing standing out to me rn. Lead-up to IvX, and how Scott's death ties into it. Marvel really thought we were all stupid enough to read this and then somehow be convinced the xmen were in the wrong??? Anyway
I'm sure there is a LOT in a addition to all this or maybe this doesn't work together as a reading order as well as I'd imagined. Like I said this era was a mess of cross overs and 30 different books all happening at once. I hope at the very least this is a good starting place and that other people feel free to add on or give me corrections to this!!

Ohhh- Valentine Fandom Ask Meme (2,3,16,24)
2. Is there a ship you didn’t like at first but ultimately started shipping?
I wouldn't say I didn't like these, but I just didn't see them at first, but then I did, and now here I am, shipping them: Hannibal/Will Graham (TV series ONLY), Steve Rogers/Scott Summers, Sherlock/John, Emma Frost/Steve Rogers. Okay no wait. At first, I could NOT conceive of Emma/Steve or Scott/Steve at first because of AvX from 2012-2013. That comic event and the following AvX Consequences made me never want to see two of my characters paired up with Steve Rogers EVER. Now? I'd rather ship both of them with Steve than with each other.
3. What is the rarest rare pair (that you ship)?
LOL I think that would have to be Scott Summers/Thor and Kate Pryde/Carol Danvers at this point since I'm the only one who's written and posted anything with them.
16. Is there a ship that made you realise something about yourself?
Emma Frost/Scott Summers made me realize who exactly I was in my marriage and who my ex was (he was neither of those two characters - he was the invasive scumbag hypocrite redheaded woman), and it helped me to get past him and heal and strengthen myself.
24. What is one scene you want to see happen for all your ships?
I answered this one over here!
Thank you for the asks!
