[Context: this comment in the Volvo post]
Tumblr media
here's the deets on the volvo. i had one of these but it was stock. it was also AWESOME.
Fuck, now I want THREE of these.
I don't see mention of an AWD conversion in the article tho, has he done it after thi- what is it? Oh, why I would want three. Yeah that's a fair question. So, well, I want one like that, obviously, and as for the remaining two, well: For one, I've had this project I nicknamed "Rice 'n' Shine". (Rice as in the automotive term for tacky, low-tier garb stapled onto a car to emulate cooler cars, which people claim to stem from the acronym "Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements" because saying the term originated from this style being applied to Japanese cars sounds kinda racist dunnit.) A way to celebrate and showcase the creativity that can be found in the car world, to create a spectacle that lights up people's day and, hopefully, sparks someone's imagination. Basically, the core idea is going through the car's every component and go "what is the wildest, most absurd, most miles-out-of-left-field shit I have ever seen done with this component... and how can I outdo it?"
For example, the exhaust. Remember that crazy Subaru Vivio Bistro I posted at the end of the transfem cars post? (How's that for a sentence most people will not say, eh) Well, I've seen crazier. Because the bosozoku style keeps on giving, there would be too many pictures of crazy exhausts to show, but worthy for the longest time the title of most outlandish exhaust to ever grace my eyes has been held by this picture.
Tumblr media
Thus, here is a sketch from my ’17/’18 school diary of how I would do the exhaust on this Volvo.
Tumblr media
Of note are the transparent shapes on the lower half, which would be the bodykit. See, of course, the Volvo should have a bodykit, right, and of course it should be quite the outlandish thing. Yet again, bosozoku to the rescue.
Tumblr media
(And I've seen people more ignorant of bosozoku culture call bundle builds like these with "rice", but at this point the word kind of starts to lose its meaning. I mean, defining this years-long effort with the same word as the people who put whistles in their exhaust to pretend they have a turbo (real thing btw)? And also, it very much stretches "race inspired". I mean, fuck kinda racecars do you think the Japanese had?
Tumblr media
Hm. Fair enough.) But the idea there was, instead of having the exhaust stick out of the bodykit, to have it within the bodykit's width, and when it gets to the edge of the exhausts it just... stops, to only keep going when there's no exhaust again, creating all those shapes that stick out the fenders like horizontal scale skyscrapers. However, given the idea is to make it out of acrylic so its entire profile can look like these little side skirt accents...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...it could just be inside the bodykit, as it would still be visible. However, I noticed literally as I was writing that I can't both have the exhaust not stick out from the bodykit and have it go over a rear wheel that sticks out as far as the bodykit does. So how's this for an idea: what if that one wheel just doesn't? What if that one wheel just stays narrow? After all, it's not like the Renault R4 didn't just fucking have one rear wheel further forward than the other.
Tumblr media
Because of course it's the French. And you know what? They're right! Why the fuck not? Nothing can be forbidden when you recognize no God. Trade nudes with your professor. Oh, and also, those little circles in the corner window are outward facing speakers, so you can do the whole "car plays music so loud I hear it very clearly from a distance away" without getting hearing damage. So those were three ideas out of the several dozens I have. I should probably make an MMMM-style list once I'm done with that.
Either way, the second idea is more performance-oriented, but do not take this to mean it's any bit more serious. See, as shown by this picture from the article, Volvo engine bays have tons of foolishly empty space that could be filled with more cylinders.
Tumblr media
I'm far from the first one to wise up to this, so much that you have multiple people who make mounts and bits for those ditching the stock engine in favor of an LS V8. But I don't want the 5.3L LS. I want a 4.0L V8 (like Toyota's 1UZ) to stick two turbos to and bring it to 600hp. Why specify specifications so specific, you may ask. Well, because 4.0L, eight cylinders split into two cylinder banks, two turbos and 600hp is exactly half the specs of the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. So if I just put another identical engine in the trunk to power the rear wheels... Basically, this.
Tumblr media
Oh, actually, here is the best meme of this sort I've ever seen:
Tumblr media
It's not just the quality of the picture, it's that this is Caterham camera car (Caterha car?) is real...
Tumblr media
...and that this is not a meme, that is actually the car that filmed the Chiron video. Well, the 'lower speed' parts. The other one was another Bugatti. OBVIOUSLY.

Key characteristics include: Supple leather upholstery, open pore wood trim and other upscale interior materials The latest technology like augmented reality navigation, digital instrument clusters and built-in entertainment Powerful yet refined engines that deliver smooth, effortless acceleration Compliant suspensions that provide a supple ride without excessive body roll Meticulous attention to detail and build quality throughout the cabin Brand prestige built on decades of engineering excellence Unique exterior styling cues and design flair Extensive list of standard amenities and personalization options Sophisticated safety systems like night vision and autonomous emergency braking The most luxurious models offer rear seat accommodations truly fit for royalty. Now let’s see the luxury vehicles coming in 2023 that push the boundaries further. 10 Most Exciting New Luxury Vehicles Arriving in 2023 1. Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV The electric EQS sedan won't be the only battery-powered Benz on the block for long. An SUV variant arrives in late 2022 offering room for seven, up to 300 miles of range and an optional performance model. The hypercreen dash spanning door-to-door steals the show. Expect seating comfort fit for first-class air travel. 2. BMW 7 Series BMW 7 Series The 7 Series luxury flagship gets its most dramatic overhaul in decades. An electric i7 joins the lineup touting up to 300 miles of range. Design-wise, massive new grilles and futuristic split headlights modernize the look. For traditionalists, Alpina produces an ultra-lux B7 model with over 600 hp from its twin-turbo V8. 3. Porsche 911 Dakar Porsche 911 Dakar Storied off-road rallies like Paris to Dakar inspired this 911 with added ground clearance and suspension lift. It's still road legal but optimized for absorbing big hits and drifts. Porsche limits production to just 2,500 examples globally, meaning early sellouts are certain. Deliveries start in late 2023. 4. Ferrari Purosangue Ferrari Purosangue After years of speculation and spy shots, Ferrari's first SUV breaks cover in late 2022. Don't call it an SUV around Maranello though, where Purosangue translates to "Thoroughbred." Details are scarce but output should rival the 812 Superfast. Maintenance costs likely approach those of the LaFerrari. Phone your Ferrari dealer now if you hope to acquire one. 5. Audi A6 e-tron Audi A6 e-tron The next generation of Audi's tech-laden executive car goes fully electric in 2023. A flat floor allows a spacious, sustainable luxury interior. Look for dual-motor AWD, 300+ miles of range and ultra-fast charging. RS performance models are imminent. Avant wagon variants should also join later. 6. Rolls-Royce Spectre Rolls-Royce Spectre Rolls-Royce makes a bold claim that this $400,000+ ultra-lux EV is the spiritual successor to the legendary Phantom. With 577 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque on tap, it's no slouch. Rolls also promises the most intelligent vehicle system ever, down to the Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament automatically retracting at speed. 7. Lamborghini Aventador Successor Lamborghini Aventador Successor Lamborghini's next flagship supercar has huge shoes to fill following the Aventador. Rumors point to a plug-in hybrid twin-turbo V12 pumping out over 800 hp. Dramatic scissor doors and spaceship styling will distance it from Lambo SUVs roaming shopping mall parking lots.
8. Aston Martin DBX707 Aston Martin DBX707 This year Aston Martin turns their DBX SUV into a super SUV with the brutal DBX707. An uprated twin-turbo 4.0L V8 generates 697 hp and 663 lb-ft of torque, rocketing this luxury family hauler to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds. Expect tighter handling and meaner styling to match. 9. Lotus Eletre Lotus Eletre A 600 hp electric hyper SUV is the last thing you'd expect from Lotus. But the Eletre delivers supercar acceleration under four seconds alongside four doors and a high-tech vegan interior. Upcoming variants promise closer to 1000 hp and sub-3.0 second 0-60 sprints. 10. Alfa Romeo Duetto Alfa Romeo Duetto Alfa's return to the US brings a modern take on the iconic Duetto Spider convertible. Retro-inspired looks, an available manual transmission and RWD handling promise to make this a driver's car. Track tuned Quadrifoglio models will sit range-topping with up to 500 hp on tap. Most Anticipated Luxury Vehicle Redesigns for 2023 Beyond the all-new models, luxury automakers have major updates in store for existing nameplates. Here are some of the most significant luxury vehicle redesigns slated for 2023: Cadillac Escalade - GM's large luxury SUV icon gets even more tech and lavish accommodations. BMW X7 - BMW's largest luxury SUV adds design tweaks inside and out alongside more standard driver assistance tech. A new i7 xDrive60 performance plug-in hybrid model also joins the lineup. Jeep Grand Wagoneer - The extended wheelbase Wagoneer gets more distinction from its Grand Cherokee platform mate in 2023. Plusher interior appointments and a rumored 600+ hp Trackhawk variant take luxury to new heights. Lexus RX - Lexus gives their best-selling SUV a overhaul centered around new hybrid variants aimed at improving fuel efficiency without sacrificing acceleration. Expect expanded driver assistance tech as well. Genesis G90 - Genesis' Mercedes S-Class fighter gets exterior dimensions enlarged for 2023 alongside interior updates like a new 12.3-inch touchscreen. A factory dual exhaust signals available V8 power. Volvo XC90 - Volvo's three-row SUV flagship sees a revised interior and new mild hybrid engine options. Plug-in hybrid models also gain more all-electric range. Nissan Z - Nissan's legendary sports car returns from one year off with a striking retro-inspired design and twin-turbo 400 hp V6. It promises to undercut European rivals on price while offering similar thrills. Acura Integra - The returning Integra nameplate aims to make Acura relevant with younger enthusiasts. For years, I've wanted one of the boxy, rear-wheel-drive Volvos. However, because society has largely stopped making cars that people actually want to buy, moneyed hipster youth are flocking to these same Volvos with the passion of the converted. You'll see 240s, 740s, and even the rare 940 wagon at your local car meets, often slammed on bags and restored to a level of mechanical and aesthetic quality that your humble servant cannot possibly hope to accomplish what with my diversified liability streams.
Still, the deals do occasionally arrive. Every so often you find a 240 sedan that's just too damn haggard for the common man, and even too much work for a dedicated Instagram account to pull out of a swamp, tow to a mechanic, and pay the mechanic to repair. For the money, they reason, I could just buy a nicer condition one from another province. And yet, this one was here now, and it somehow had arrived in my driveway. How exactly that occurred is a private matter, to be kept between me and my deity of the moment.
This, my friends, was a 1982 Volvo 240DL with what appears to be some hee-haw's attempt at jamming a miled-out Ford 302 vee-aight into it. Actually, the 302 has been upgraded, because with the addition of about thirty pounds of rat turds, the static compression ratio has at least a point or two added. Nothing a pressure washer can't solve, or, more realistically, some burnouts, a change of underwear, and the newly-minted "Platinum VIP Pass" to the local pick-your-part junkyard.
In the end, I couldn't hold onto this dreamy little brick for very long. With the valuations as insane as they are currently, one of my neighbours noticed it was sitting on my driveway. For the minimal work I had done to tow it home, I received a pretty substantial amount of cash. My hope is that one day I'll be reunited with that same car, perhaps many years down the line when the hipsters have moved onto something else, like the first-generation Dodge Caliber. There's no chance I'm gonna want one of those, with their ugly interior, inaccessible starter position, inexplicably slow and heavy turbo-charged AWD option, and... cooled glovebox? Sweet Jesus, how much are those things going for right now?

Honda Accord Wagon SiR
Tumblr media
Perusahaan Jepang spesialis tuning mobil Nissan bernama Autech kemudian membuat varian bernama Stagea 260RS Autech.

old forum 2000s build threads used to get so out of control, i really miss the stupid projects people would undertake purely for the sake of wondering whether or not it could be done.
personal favourite:
the guy who converted his ecotec powered ke70 wagon to an S13 rear end and then cracked the shits and put a 1UZ under the bonnet with a factory auto, then chopped and channeled the chassis so the car sat super low, then swapped the auto to manual, then turboed it, then crashed it real bad at a track after the throttle got stuck wide open, then started building a new one, then tried to convert it to AWD using an AWD Aristo driveline and tercel suspension but got annoyed when no one made a manual AWD box for the 1UZ so he hand cut his own adapter plate to mate it with a GTR driveline but couldnt get the transfer case to work properly so he welded it all together so it was full-time AWD and managed to do all of this in the space of like 2 years...
i aim to be this capable one day when it comes to building stuff
