Prompt #14 - The Bet
Tumblr media
Attrition - ‘win a war(or bet or argument etc.) by wearing down the enemy’
——————————
Katsum made a mental note to never make a bet like this again.
She and Aymeric had been joking around last night before bed in the cheesiest and mushiest of ways a couple could, trading compliments back and forth and showering each other in love and affection. Yet when Aymeric had challenged that she was the one who showered him with more affection than he did her, she had made it official.
“We will see who can last the longest tomorrow without a kiss from the other. Whoever wins can tease the other for the rest of the evening. What say you to that?”
Aymeric had grinned at her and moved to lean over her, caging her in with his arms as he stared down into her eyes with a smoldering gaze, “Deal. But you should know, my dear wife…I will be merciless,” His breath tickled her nose and her ears flicked back as she pressed herself lower into the mattress as he moved closer, “That prize is just too sweet to resist.”
Katsum blushed, trying to grin through the nervous excitement she felt to push back, sitting up on her arms to press her forehead against his, “As will I.”
Though that was more a bluff than a promise. He’d grinned wider and at the time, she figured she knew what she was in store for.
She didn’t.
He had indeed been ruthless.
When she woke this morning, he was waiting for her, leaning over her just a breath away.
“Good morning, my love~,” He cooed softly, leaning just slightly closer, inviting her to press her lips against his. She’d almost forgotten, leaning forward with a smile to take it, yet she’d stopped just an inch away and played it off like that was her plan.
“Nice try, dear Aymeric,” She’d hummed as she pushed him away, trying her best to hide the fact that she had almost lost immediately.
“Worry not,” He’d replied as he’d freed himself from the covers, “‘Twas only the beginning.”
And it really had been.
Normally as they both left the house in the morning, he would pull her in for a kiss goodbye. He did the same movement this morning only he stopped to press his nose to hers and whispered, “I pray you have a good day, my sweet, and I hope to see you whenever you catch a free moment.”
She’d blushed at first, yet in retaliation, she’d against pushed back as she’d laid her hand on his chest, gently sliding it down just enough that she knew he would feel it through the layers of his regalia. She watched the slight change in his eyes as they darkened a little and she smiled back, “I’ll come by and spend lunch with you. We will have plenty of time to play our game then.”
He’d hummed in response, “I look forward to it.” He’d turned to leave then, waving her goodbye, and as she’d closed the door behind him, Katsum had to lean against it for a moment to calm herself.
Heavens, why was he always so tempting!?
When she’d come to the Congregation at noon, he’d smiled as she’d walked into his office with the tray of tea and their lunches. He’d taken her hand after she set the tray down, pulling it almost against his lips but stopping just before they touched her skin, looking up at her with the same smoldering eyes he had given her that morning. It sent a shiver down her spine and she cleared her throat and gently pulled her hand away, finding his desk to be very interesting to look at just then.
“Are you alright, my dear Kat?” He’d purred, watching her fight to keep her eyes from his. She’d heard the amusement in his voice clear as day.
“Of course, why do you ask?” She’d smiled as she’d laid out his lunch for him once he’d moved his papers aside, lifting the tea kettle to pour some into his cup.
“Because it appears your tail fur is standing on end.”
She had very nearly dropped the kettle, glancing back to see that her tail was indeed betraying her, the fur puffing out to nearly twice its size. Her embarrassment was very clear and she knew Aymeric had to be holding back a laugh. She tried to hide her tail a bit as she poured his tea and stepped around his chair to pour hers.
“Are you sure you are feeling, alright, dear?” He had asked again with an amused tone to his voice, “Your face does look rather red.”
It had only clicked then how to respond as she’d set down the kettle and moved to press against him from behind, wrapping her arms around his neck where she knew he couldn’t retaliate and whispered next to his ear, “Can you blame me, love? You are always so enticing it’s hard not to get flustered when you’re around.” She blew a little on the back of his ear and watched his grip on his fork tighten. He too had blushed this time yet he’d still glanced over his shoulder at her and grinned back despite the flush on his cheeks and the tips of his ears.
After that, lunch had passed by quickly, and she’d left him with another exchange of temptations, but neither of them had broken just yet. Now it was close to evening and with the help of the faithful servant of House Borel, she’d set a nice candlelit dinner for the two of them, hoping to find a way to break his resolve before the end of it. Though that had been a few hours ago that she’d had that thought.
She had been waiting quite a while now, glancing up at the clock. Usually, he was home by now and while dinner hadn’t grown cold, it would be before long. An anxious feeling set in; what could he be up to? Her mind raced at the thoughts that came to mind, going from innocent heartfelt gifts to something a bit more..tempting. He wouldn’t get the idea to change his clothes into something like that to walk home in the cold though…would he? The thought was rather scandalous she realized and blushed. It was her husband she was thinking about, so it was alright to let her mind wander though it certainly did not save her from the ever-darkening flush on her cheeks to let it do so.
Suddenly, her ears perked at the sound of the front door opening and of footsteps of someone coming in out of the cold, “I’m home. I’m sorry I ran behind.”
Something about Aymeric’s voice sounded off so she stood quickly and headed towards the hall, hoping he wasn’t fooling her into a false sense of comfort. As she turned out of the dining room door and caught his gaze down the hall, she knew he wasn’t.
His eyes were tired, his posture showing his exhaustion. Whatever had happened after lunch had taken its toll on him she guessed. She sighed and smiled sadly at him, moving to meet him there. He smiled tiredly at her as she moved up to him, reaching out to cup her face and move in…
…And stop as he remembered. His eyes widened as hers did, the thought clicking for both at the same time.
“Ah, right…the challenge,” He sighed, nearly letting go before he shook his head, “I will take the loss. It has been a very long day and I really wish to kiss you.”
He drew her in yet before he could initialize the kiss, she pressed forward and kissed him first. She could tell he was surprised but didn’t let it stop him from kissing her, gently holding her cheek as he sighed in relief. She pulled away for a breath and whispered against his lips, “How about we call it a draw instead?”
He blinked, but smiled and nodded, “As long as I get to kiss you again.”
“Of course, you may,” She pecked his lips again, moving closer and pressing against him, “And the rest of the evening is ours to spend together.”
“Yes…at last,” He kissed her again, pulling her into a deeper kiss than before so that she wrapped her arms around his neck.

Prompt #1 - Paperwork
Tumblr media
Cross - ‘angry and annoyed’
——————————
In the few years that they had been married, Aymeric had begun to learn the subtle nuances his wife gave off when her mood would shift from its usual demeanor. The signs were extremely small, as Katsum had spent years depending on only herself and had fashioned her stoic mask to hide them, but as time went on though, they had learned just how much they could depend on each other, and so she used that mask less and less. And so he began to see them more and more. For instance, the slight twitch of her tail when she was annoyed with something, the slight droop of her ears when she was feeling embarrassed, or even the very quiet days when she spoke so softly it was hard to hear and stuck close to his side wherever he went, eventually tugging on his sleeve to ask for a hug and assurance.
Today, he was noticing very strained and frustrated movements. Her ears were slicked back the slightest bit and the very tip of her tail twitched as she was reading over the documents in her hands. He could see her fingers tighten on the page and how she swung the page over to read the back spoke to him that her patience was wearing very very thin. He could just see the tight expression on her face too, the thin line of her lips pressed together to keep her mouth from pulling into a growl. Whatever report they had sent to her was not at all a good one, so much so that it was all the Miqo’te woman could do to keep herself from charging out the door in a rampage at that very moment.
He watched her carefully from where he stood by the bookshelf, his chosen book in hand as he called out to her then, “Love?”
As if broken from a trance, Katsum’s ears perked up and she looked up at him, her posture straightening in the chair as her blue eyes met his, “Y-Yeah?”
He’d caught her off guard certainly, seeing her mind snapping back to reality and out of the fiery storm of rage that had been building in her thoughts by the way her expression softened as she looked at him. The observation made him smile softly at her as he moved closer, “Is something wrong?”
“Wrong? Oh,” She fidgeted slightly, suddenly realizing how much of her frustration had begun to show, “It’s…it’s nothing. Just some annoyances…”
“Just ‘annoyances’?”
“…Yeah…well nothing I can’t…handle I suppose.” She sighed and her ears fell back again, her fingers gripping the pages a bit as she glanced back at the words and then back at him.
Aymeric glanced down at Katsum’s tail where it was pressed against her lap in the chair, the fur still bristling even as she tried to smooth it down and set down his book on the desk, “Are you certain it is nothing I cannot help you with? As Head Speaker for the House of Lords, I am well versed in the art of report readings and letter writings,” he chuckled softly trying to make her laugh or smile at the joke, but she remained quiet, “And I’d be more than happy to offer my assistance if you’d like?”
Katsum sat still for a moment before she sighed heavily and leaned back in the chair, dropping the documents she held to rub her hands over her face, “I think…I just…I don’t know, Aymeric. I think I should handle them on my own.” She dropped her hands into her lap and looked down at them, appearing more like a somber kitten than the barely contained lioness she had been not minutes ago.
He pondered her answer for a moment, looking her over silently before nodding with a sorrowful sigh, “Very well, my love. I understandable.”
“Thanks, love. I’ll try not to take to—!?” Aymeric had moved to her chair and pulled it back from the desk before taking the papers from her and setting them down and lifting her into his arms. She scrambled to throw her arms around his neck as he moved past the desk to the window seat/bed in the corner of the study where he sat them both down with Katsum nestled in front of him in his lap. He pulled her back against his chest, wrapping his arms around hers, and snuggled his nose into her hair and against her furry ear with a contented smile. He felt her wiggle in protest, yet he held fast to her.
“Aymeric, I—”
“You are frustrated, Katsum. Far beyond ‘annoyances’.”
She stopped fighting him and slumped, “How did you…how can you tell…?”
He kissed the top of her head to soothe her worries, “I can tell only because I have come to know you so well, my love. And I have been in the very same place you are many times before which is why I ask please let me help. If not with the documents themselves, then with a few moments of rest here in my arms to regain inner peace and composure before continuing. Better to have a clear head when answering letters such as these than to be cross and rush in with so much raw feeling.”
She huffed and settled back into him, snuggling her head under his chin, “It’s just the…incompetence of these people sometimes…I know the work to build a village in Dravania was going to be taxing and dangerous. That’s why I planned so much ahead, yet still, they act like I haven’t thought a single thing through. It is so frustrating…but as the queen, I feel like I must handle the issue on my own even if it is just some workers' complaints and grievances…”
Aymeric gently caressed her arm, “You do so much for your kingdom’s lost people and no one can doubt that, but you do not have to do it alone, Kat. I unfortunately have worked with so many reports and paperwork in the past that I know exactly what you are feeling right now, so I propose this. Let us go and get some tea to relax with, and when you feel ready, we’ll come back and get your response written and sent off quickly so that we can enjoy the rest of the evening together in peace. What do you say to that?”
The blonde miqo’te was quiet for a moment before she nodded slowly with a deep sigh, “Ok…but can we sit here a little longer first…? This feels nice…”
Aymeric smiled and pulled his dear warrior of light ever closer, “Of course, my dear. We may stay here for as long as you’d like.”

Prompt #21 - This Too Shall Pass…Right?
Solution - ‘a means of solving a problem or dealing with a difficult situation’
——————————
He found her in the study, sitting with the chair pulled up close to the desk and her head in her hands. She massaged her scalp gently around her ears, a motion Aymeric recognized as something he did for her when she came to him for comfort when she was stressed. He sighed softly and moved towards her quietly, making sure to make a little noise to let her know he was there.
“Katsum?” He called out softly, “My heart, are you alright?”
Her hair tossed from side to side as she shook her head in a ‘no’. He reached her side and laid a hand on her shoulder, kneeling to her height as he looked for her eyes hidden beneath her golden, red-highlighted treses.
“How can I help?” He asked softly, rubbing her shoulder and then sliding his hand across to her upper back.
“I just…I don’t understand,” She shook her head again and Aymeric caught how her eyes were pinched shut, the corners of them damp as she was attempting not to cry, “Why doesn’t it work!? We’ve tried nearly EVERYTHING to fix it, yet each time, it works for a little while, just enough to get your hopes up, and then crashes again!” She slammed her hands into the desk, startled herself as she pulled her hands back and a hiccup let her lips.
Aymeric frowned as he leaned over to embrace her, gently wrapping his arms around her until she leaned against him and let the tears flow. With a sigh, he rested his chin on her head, his voice filled with concern, “I don’t know how to help you, love. I don’t know if I can. Not with this thing you are fighting with.”
Katsum shook her head, trying to speak amidst her tears, “I can barely understand it myself…so please don’t feel like you aren’t helping enough,” She pushed herself closer to him, curling into his chest and pulling his arms tightly around her, “This…this helps. This helps so much…”
“I wish I could do more…I know you are exhausted…it’s worrying…”
“I know…I’m sorry, Aymeric…”
The raven-haired elezen pressed a kiss to the top of her head and hugged her ever closer, “I know you are, dear. I know you are trying your best.”
The miqo’te in his arms nodded slowly, sniffling, “Do you think I’ll ever get it to work…?”
“This too shall pass, remember?”
She nodded, and breathed in a deep sigh as she snuggled under his chin, “This too shall pass…”

Prompt #20 - Then Stay
Tumblr media
Anon - ‘soon’
——————————
“Don’t go…” Katsum whined sleepily, holding desperately to her husband’s arm as he moved to get out of bed.
Aymeric chuckled softly and let her pull him back down to her, curling around his arm as he leaned over her and kissed her head.
“I must, my love. It is an emergency gathering of the houses and as the Lord Speaker, I must be there.”
“But it’s the middle of the night…”
He pulled her against him so that she snuggled into his chest again and she sighed softly, “Hm, I would love nothing more than to just stay right here.”
“Then stay.” She mumbled into his neck, pressing a chaste kiss just under his jaw.
“You, my dear beloved Kat, are going to get me in trouble,” He laughed, reaching down to tilt her chin up and kiss her lips. Katsum sighed into the kiss and moved forward to deepen it, but her dashing elezen pulled away, gently prying himself from her grip to get dressed. The miqo’te pouted as she curled into the silken covers, watching him as he put on his many layers of regalia, enjoying the show of his back muscles flexing as he moved. The many metal pieces chimed as he fastened them into place and he caught her gaze when he turned back to her.
“Why are you so pretty?” Katsum yawned, pulling the covers up to her chin and watching him.
“Ah, but that is my question to you, love,” He stepped around the bed to her side and leaned down to kiss her again, lingering when she reached up to cup his face and kiss him back. He pulled away again and pressed his forehead to hers with a sigh, “I will return anon, I promise. However drastic the discussion must be, it is nothing to the call of your warmth and loving arms.”
She hummed, “Are you sure you have to go…?”
“Yes, Kat, I am sure. I will be back before long though, I promise.”
“…Ok. Just be safe please,” She pouted again, wrapping her arms around his neck to hug him.
“I shall. I love you.”
“Mm love you too.”
“Sleep, my love. I’ll be snuggled up with you when next you wake.”
“Promise?”
“Ha ha…yes, I promise.”
“Ok.”
Aymeric laid a kiss on her hair one last time before he pulled himself free of her arms and pulled the covers back over her and stood up, moving to the door quietly and exiting their bedroom. Katsum listened as his footsteps echoed through the hallway and then down the stairs, slowly fading away the further he got. She groaned when the sound all but faded entirely, snuggling into the thick blankets to fight against the cooling of the plush sheets. She reached out and pulled Aymeric’s pillow into her chest, cuddling it close so that the smell of it would lull her back to sleep. Hopefully, she’d wake in an hour or so and he would be back where he belonged, in her arms and fast asleep with the most peaceful look on his face. Until then, she’d wait patiently for him to be hers again, and try to get some rest while doing so.

Prompt#19 - Gracious Heroes of Ishgard
Tumblr media
Turn a Blind Eye - ‘to pretend not to notice’
——————————
“Oh! My Lord Aymeric! Lady Katsum! How glad I am to have caught you!”
The lord and lady of House Borel stopped and turned to the young man who was jogging up to them. Katsum’s ears flattened slightly with a twitch in her tail. She and Aymeric had just been in the middle of a wonderful conversation that had made her heart flutter…only for it to be interrupted. Aymeric caught her eye as he laid a hand on hers that held his arm, an apologetic and warm smile that asked for just a moment of patience. She sighed as she put on her best soft smile and looked with him to the hyur who now stood in front of them with his hands on his knees breathing heavily.
“What can we help you with, ser?” Aymeric asked with his signature smile.
The man smiled up at them and nodded as he took in a deep breath, “Ah, yes sir. I do apologize, I know you both have just started a break…but I have a most important matter that I really must ask for you to look at ser.”
“Please,” Katsum waved her hand with a narrowed gaze, “Ser Aymeric will be back in his office in an hour or two. Please let him have his time to relax and he will see to your matter as soon as he returns.” She was getting so tired of people using his habit of not turning away from those who needed help to their advantage, calling their matter ‘most important’ when it truly wasn’t at all. They’d taken too much for his time already most days, so today as she was home, she would make sure he got his rightful time to rest for a little while.
The man, however, was very persistent, “Oh, I’m sorry, my lady, I had meant to say that I needed both of your attention. The matter at hand includes those of the dravanians too, and as the esteemed Queen of Dragons, please may I have you both look over it.”
Katsum was speechless but ready to shoot him down. Flattery meant nothing to her.
“Plus, Miss Tataru had assured me that you would know everything I would need to help with my venture too.”
Her tail dropped at that. Oh no…
“Still,” Aymeric pleaded, “Just a little bit of time for us to relax after the morning of paperwork she has been helping me with, and we will reconvene on your case as soon as possible.”
The man again shook his head, “This could mean the future of Ishgard and Dravania alike! Please, is that not enough for the two most important figures - nay two heroes of Ishgard to not look into immediately?”
Oh, he went there, and Katsum was pretty sure she knew what was happening.
“Very well,” She nearly toppled over as she heard Aymeric’s tired voice say, stepping forward to walk with her and the man back to the congregation, “Please make it brief though. I really need to rest a while before this evening's gathering of the houses.”
The man grinned happily and nodded with satisfaction, sighing heavily as if in relief, “Oh thank you, ser. So very kind you are. And thank you too, madam, thank you ever so much-”
“Listen well,” Katsum scowled at him as she halted Aymeric beside her and snapped the fingers on her free hand. From above the market where they stood, a scaly beast came flying down, landing with his tail encircling his master and her husband. Draco’s gilded golden collar sparkled as he hissed softly and stared at the man with a reptilian grin on the drake’s face, “If this matter is not at all as important as you say, it will be Draco that escorts you out of the city for you to return another day. So pray that Rowena has made it worth the trouble, hm?”
The man paled, stuttering as he nodded, “Oh uh haha…I-I do believe she has, m-ma’am.”
“I’ll be the judge of that. Now walk on. We shall be there in a moment.” Katsum hissed.
He nodded quickly and sprinted away from them towards the congregation. Katsum sighed and looked up at her tall, raven-haired Lord Commander and leaned against his arm, “You are far too kind sometimes love.”
“I know…They clearly know I want what’s best for Ishgard and use that against me. I would get no rest at all were it not for you, my dear.” He smiled with a chuckle as they started walking again, Draco walking loyally beside her with a proud look in his eyes.
She nodded, hugging his arm, “Next time, let’s try to say no and keep saying no. As you told me once, the world can fight on for a little while to let the warrior rest, so Ishgard can fight on to let its Commander rest too.”
“Of course, my heart.”
“And just remember you got us into this mess,” Katsum’s tail dropped at the mere thought, “It’s Rowena who sent this and there’s no telling what she’s proposing.”
Aymeric nodded, “Agreed. I will make it up to you later…and I hope this will not take hours…”
“I hope so as well…but also betting that it will…”

Prompt #16 - Praise and Sweet Caresses
Tumblr media
((Some Mature Content Ahead))
Deiform - ‘godlike or divine in nature’
——————————
“Beautiful.”
Katsum sighed as his lips burned a trail down her neck, knotting her fingers in his silken raven hair while she felt his hands caress her hips and his arms encircle her middle. He pulled her closer to him until their chests were flush against one another, only the thin layer of her nightgown separating her bare skin from his. How thankful she was that she’d convinced him to sleep without a shirt. She sighed again when he dragged his fingers down her spine, the straps of her nightgown slipping down her arms at the motion, but she couldn’t care less.
Aymeric released his kiss on her neck to breathe a long, hot breath on her shoulder before pressing his nose into the nape of her neck. Her feline ears fell back against her skull and her tail curled around his knee.
“Stunning.”
She wasn’t quite sure how she’d gotten here, but she wasn’t at all complaining. She’d come out of the washroom in her nightclothes and saw the tall figure of her elezen husband sitting in the armchair by the dim fireplace. When she’d gone to check on him, he’d snagged her by the waist and pulled her into his lap, and began showering her with praise and such sweet caresses. Whatever restful sleep she’d been thinking of was a fleeting thought on the wind now.
Aymeric dragged his nose up her neck and gently nipped the skin just below her hair and Katsum’s hips rolled slightly in reply. His grip on her tightened as he groaned, yet she caught the faintest hint of a growl just below it.
“I have been waiting for you…” He said finally, his fingers finally finding the hem of her silken nightgown and toying with it, “Waiting for my goddess to come home to me…”
He pulled back to allow his lips to find hers in a searing - almost burning - kiss that left her panting for air and more of him. She whined slowly at his fingers that toyed with her gown and the ones that held her thigh, squeezing it gently as he dipped in his head again and kissed where her shoulder met her neck.
“M’sorry…” She managed to coax out through her mumblings, “It was such a long day fighting with that…doesn’t matter…” She shook the memory of the day away, though another thought popped into her head as she looked away from him, “A-and I’m-”
“Nothing short of divine, my Kat,” He interrupted, releasing her thigh to catch her chin and turn her eyes back on him, staring her down with a darkened, serious gaze, “There will be none of that tonight or any night. Chase those lies out of your head, my love, for they are just that. Lies.” He kissed her deeply and cradled her tightly as he stood up. Katsum’s legs reacted quickly to his prompting and latched around his waist as he slowly walked them over to the grand canopy bed they shared. She let every self-image thought fly from her mind as he laid her gently on the covers, crawling over her and pressing himself against her again and kissing her like something he couldn’t get enough of.
His hands found her arms and he unwound them from his neck and hair to lace their fingers together and press their hands into the mattress on either side of her head. He settled comfortably - perfectly - in between her legs while her heels pressed on the backs of his thighs, holding him close as her tail brushed against his hip.
He paused and smiled down at her warmly, leaning down to press a chaste kiss to her forehead and whisper against her hairline, “My dear angel, I know you have had a very long day. So if you would allow me, I would like to take care of you now and help ease the pains of the day. May I?”
Katsum felt her cheeks flush as she squirmed a little under him shyly. He knew exactly what to say to make her melt, to make her embarrassed and want to hide her face. He knew exactly what he was doing as he held her still, grinning as he leaned in and kissed her slowly and sweetly, drawing her bottom lip into his mouth and tugging at it gently.
She had given in long ago they both knew, but ever the gentleman, he waited for her approval.
Katsum loved that.
“Please,” She murmured, earning her a gentle kiss on the cheeks as she looked up with half-lidded eyes, ready to fall completely into bliss, “I love you…”
“And I so dearly love you too.”

Prompt# 12 - Has He Asked Yet?
Tumblr media
<<Late Heavensward Spoilers Ahead>>
Miss the Boat - ‘be too slow to take advantage of an opportunity’
——————————
“So? Has he asked yet?”
Katsum eyed Y’shtola who was grinning across the table at her, swirling the wine glass in her hand. She’d been asking that a lot lately; especially since the battle on the Steps of Faith with Nidhogg’s shade and the end of the Dragonsong War. She knew who she was asking about; Aymeric. Ever since they had come to Ishgard, Y’shtola and Thancred immediately caught one to the chemistry going on between the Warrior of Light and the Lord Commander and had been keeping a rather close eye on it, asking from time to time if they’d asked each other to go out on a date or a walk or something. Each time, she answered that she hadn’t and he hadn’t asked her, and she could tell the two were slowly getting frustrated at that answer.
“If you are asking what I’m pretty sure you are,” Katsum huffed quietly so that the whole of the Forgotten Knight didn’t hear and handed Midgardsormr who sat on her shoulder half of her butter tea cookie before she lifted her teacup to take a sip, “No. And before you ask-”
“Have you asked him?”
“No…” Katsum rolled her eyes softly, “Why are you so hung up on this? You and Thancred both.”
“Because it’s the first time either of us has seen you smile or fawn over someone, ANYONE. So of course we are maybe playing a bit of matchmaker and making sure he doesn’t slip away from you.” She hummed with a bright smile before she turned her head to the side and looked at her seriously, “Though you do realize that if you don’t act at some point, you may lose him?”
Katsum paused and glanced over at her over the rim of her tea cup.
Y’shtola continued, “He is a very handsome man, Katsum, and a nobleman with a small fortune as well. Let alone that he now holds the highest seat of power in Ishgard. It won’t be long before someone makes a move if you don’t.”
Katsum narrowed her eyes and set down her cup, glaring at Y’shtola slightly, “You aren’t thinking to yourself are you?”
“If I said yes, would that prompt you to make yours?” She shook her head with a laugh as Katsum looked like she was about to hiss at her, “Relax, child. I have no romantic motivations towards him, no. But I will ask him for you if you don’t say something soon.”
Her jaw dropped, “You wouldn’t.”
“Oh but I will,” The white-furred miqo’te finished her glass and stood to her feet, “We haven’t seen you happy before, Katsum. Not truly like we have seen you lately. I don’t want you to lose this so please ask before you regret not asking. And as I said, if you don’t, I will ask him for a date for you. Don’t make me have to embarrass you like that, hm?”
Y’shtola then turned and made her way to the bar to get another drink and Katsum just watched her go. Truly, it was nice of them to be looking out for her and want her to be happy. They had nothing to gain from it - save for maybe some entertainment she guessed - and yet still both Y’shtola and Thancred were moved to try and help her and Aymeric get together. It was heart-warming a little…but it also made Katsum very anxious and feel like she was always being watched with the two of them acting a bit like excited parents wondering when she was going to ask the boy out.
“I suppose you aren’t going to tell them that you both have been ‘going out’ for a month or so now, correct?” Midgardsormr quietly asked from on her shoulder, chuckling, “And you aren't going to tell her about your date tonight either?”
Katsum’s cheek flushed a little as she looked back to her tea cup with a soft smile, “Nope. They’ll figure it out I’m sure, but for now, it’s kind of nice keeping it quiet.”
At this the little dragon chuckled again and munched on his piece of the cookie, “Indeed.”

Prompt #6 - Was it Worth it?
Tumblr media
<<Warning: Major Endwalker 6.0 Spoilers ahead>>
Onerous - ‘burdensome, oppressive, troublesome’
——————————
Has it all…been worth it?
Though Katsum hated to admit it, this question had made her think. Especially with the fact that it had been Zenos of all people who had asked it. In the last tendrils of her fury in finally ending him, and in her heart bursting with hopeful adrenaline, she’d immediately responded yes, every moment of it. She still did answer yes…or so she thought she did.
There truly wasn't a worse place for her to think about such heavy things than a quiet room. The parlor was one such quiet space now, only the gentle crackling of the flaming fireplace and the patter of the heavy snowflakes hitting the windows outside. It was enough to keep the silence away, but not enough that her mind didn’t dive further into itself and go on a bit of a journey through memories.
From the day she was crowned queen to the day she defeated the Endsinger and taught her a song of hope, in the grand view of the entire journey itself, it had brought the world back from the brink of destruction over and over. No one could argue that, but what had it done for her specially? A journey is only as good as the good lessons and values it helps teach the traveler. Katsum knew this to be true.
And every question that sliver of doubt tried to whisper, she made sure she had an answer to.
You lost your family, your home. A castaway in a foreign land with nothing but a necklace…
How much she had grown from those days, that frightened and broken queen hiding behind a stoic mask. Back then she watched every person like they knew who she was and were just waiting for her to turn her back. She trained harder than any Gladiator did back then, fought like each battle was for survival. She'd been so tired, so anxious. Only when someone saw her behind the mask and saw the true heart of Katsum Almor did the mask begin to melt away. They had comforted her, accepted her, and reassured her of every insecurity and fear until there was no mask to hide behind anymore. She was just Katsum. The warm-hearted young queen whose smile was filled with hope and kindness and whose blade flashed with the fury of a dragon when protecting those she loved and cared about or anyone who could not protect themselves.
People constantly asking for your help, but were they just using you?
No, not all. Of course, there had been some, but their true colors had been shown eventually. People and Eorzea and other adventurers alike. Yet she had found the Scions - or maybe they found her. Perhaps the first group to appear to be ‘taking advantage of her strength’ yes, but as time passed, they all grew together and became a kind of family in their own right. Had it not been for them, her journey would not have gone quite so far, maybe not even past the gates of Ul’dah. Not only the Scions but countless others she had met along the way, friends and allies from every corner of Etheirys that had shown they would drop everything to help if called upon. Whatever thought of being used there may have been at first, to have anyone repay the favor shows that they meant to repay her for all she’d done for them.
You spent so much of your time helping this land. What did you gain out of it?
A new home, a sense of duty, a new life to guide her from the shadows of her created self-guilt, and a chance to find her parents and her people who she had thought dead. If her journey never led her out from Ul’dah, what troubles would she have found herself in? What alleyways would she be seeking shelter in? What else would she be running from? She could not help but think that perhaps she would have died back then had her path not been paved the way it was, and she had the Savior to thank for that, for every step both peaceful and burdensome.
So many people fell by your hand, and so many lives were cut short. What of them? Were their lives worth ending?
This was the thought that made her heart drop, her tail falls limp and her ears fall against her head. If she could go back, she’d do whatever she could to save who she could. Some of those lives did not have to die. Some might have listened to reason had it been spoken or simply been put to sleep as they passed by. Yet still many others would have found such thinking shameful. Katsum understood loyalty to a fault well, and so she should not believe that some of those men and women on the battlefield would have stopped despite their homeland telling them to keep moving. Still more had believed their path the far more righteous one and would have never even entertained the idea of turning away from what they believed, from what the world had forged them to see in the chaos they had come from. She knew she couldn’t have saved everyone, no matter how much she wanted to, but she would always try.
The ones that had lost their lives in the battles with her had hurt even more so, or the lives she was too late to save. For some of them, she did not fully comprehend the loss at the time as her heart and soul had been so clouded with her fears and struggles that she could think of little else than just forging ahead, keep pushing forward. Now that she had come so far, she remembered them in prayer daily, thanking them for their sacrifices, and asking the Savior to make sure their place in heaven was always bright and beautiful. Their journeys had been cut short, and for better or worse, they had to go on and keep fighting the good fight. In the end, they had won those battles, but the losses still weighed heavy on her mind.
Will your journey…ever be over?
Why…why would she want it to be?
As a child, she’d dreamed of exploring the world beyond the shores of her home, of seeing the world her father spoke so fondly of in his adventures. She wanted to learn histories, and forgotten stories, and discover every hidden corner and cave this world had to offer. She’d dreamed of meeting a real dragon, like all the ones she’d read about in the kingdom’s stories, to fly on its back and see the world from above the very clouds. She was living those dreams today, soaring farther than she ever imagined. Why would she want this to end?
“Love? Are you still there?”
Katsum’s ears perked at the sweet alluring sound of her husband’s voice, and her heart leaped from its shadowy state, “Yes, I’m still here. Sorry, I was…lost in thought.”
Her ears caught the sound of his footsteps and turned back to the parlor door to watch as Aymeric entered carrying a happy baby blue wrapped in a light blue blanket. The elezen had the warmest, happiest smile on his face as he came around the couch quickly and sat beside her, sitting close enough for their bodies to be pressed close together and looked down at the baby while lifting him to show Katsum, “Now who’s that, Adrian? Who’s that beautiful woman sitting there?”
Adrian looked at Katsum and smiled and laughed, making her heart swell as she leaned her chin on Aymeric’s shoulder and cuddled close.
“I know, you are happy to see her, but who is she?” Aymeric asked again. Katsum blinked, no he hadn’t already…
“Aaa…aa…ma…ma…Mama…”
Katsum’s hand flew to her mouth as she felt a tear spring up in her eye. She smiled brightly as she reached out and gently tickled the little boy, “That’s right, Adrian! You did it!”
“He surprised me just now upstairs as I was changing him with it and I could hardly wait to get back to you here and hope he’d say it again.’ Aymeric was grinning so warmly that Katsum couldn’t stop herself from moving up to kiss him.
“Thank you, Aymeric. Thank you so much…I love you so much,” Katsum cried softly, a tear of pure happiness sliding down her cheek before her husband caught it.
“I do believe that is my line, my sweet Katsum,” He chuckled, gently setting the giggling baby in her arms before pulling them both into his lap and wrapping his arms snuggly around Katsum’s waist and pressing a kiss to her temple, “And I love you so very much as well. By the Fury, I love you both so much.”
Katsum kissed Adrian’s forehead and snuggled back into her husband, content to stay here forever if she could.
Yes, it had ALL been worth it. Every struggle, every heartbreak, every failure, and scar. If it all lead here, to this moment, then it was worth it all.

Prompt #9 - Curl Up After a Long Day
Tumblr media
<Very Slight Shadowbringers Spoilers>
Yawn - ‘deep inhale due to tiredness or boredom’
———————————
It had been a long day for the Warrior of Light, a long yawn escaping her as she trudged into the study, her tail dragging and her ears drooped. She usually knew better than to let Tataru talk her into helping so much, but after all the things she’d done to keep the Scions healthy while they were stuck on the First, Katsum felt like she should do all she could to repay her. That meant a long…long day of running the accountant’s errands. When the day finally came to an end, Katsum was overjoyed, glad to finally be headed home, ready to find her dear husband and cuddle up with him and fall into a deep sleep.
“Oh, good evening, Kat,” Aymeric’s sultry voice soothed her soul and she smiled as her eyes caught sight of him lounging on the couch in a dark blue button-up shirt and pair of black slacks with gold trim. He smiled warmly at her, though his gaze caught sight of her drooping ears and tail soon after and concern filled his expression, “By the Fury, you look exhausted, love.”
She nodded as she moved over to him and mumbled, “Long day…so glad to be home with you.” She came to stand in front of him before she leaned down and slid under his arms. He moved with her to let her climb into his lap, curling up against his chest and snuggling under his chin. After pulling her tail up into his lap and completely settling, she sighed before another long yawn broke its way out. Aymeric chuckled as he gently shifted to get comfortable, moving to lean back against the armrest and settled her between his legs so that she could lay against him while wrapping his arms around her with his book open to read again. She felt his fingers gently caress his back and she snuggled closer, a faint rumbling beginning to echo from her chest.
“I love it when you purr like that,” Aymeric mused into her ear, brushing his lips against the shell of it and the fur.
Katsum squirmed a bit, “No teasing.”
“I said nothing. What do you mean?”
“You know what I mean. I heard the tone.”
He chuckled again and kissed her head, “Couldn’t resist. Forgive me, dear.”
She mumbled softly, “Playful time later…Sleepy now…”
“Of course, my love. May I read to you as you drift off?”
She nodded.
As he started to read aloud, it did not take long for the miqo’te to fall fast asleep, her rumbling purr taking control as she officially drifted off. The day had been a busy and trying one, but she got to come home to this every time. So all was well as long as she got to relax with her sweet love like this afterward.

Prompt #5 - Technology vs the WoL
Tumblr media
Cutting Corners - ‘to do something in the easiest or least expensive way’
——————————
“So it’s like I said. It was working fine until I got back from the First.” Katsum watched the white-haired miqo’te man, a man by the name of Chip Welkin, a dear adventurer friend of hers, fiddle with the tomestone with a concentrated expression, “Like…the screen won’t turn on, it won’t charge, it’s just like it’s…dead.”
Chip tapped on the screen, pushed some of the buttons, and when the tomestone did not light up as she mentioned, he set it on the table in front of him and turned to get some of his tools, “I do see what you mean. It’s really weird that it just died like this though.” He started to gently pry off the back of the device.
Katsum shook her head and crossed her arms in front of her with a huff, her tail swishing slightly and her ears falling back, “Yeah, well…technology has never been something that works very well with me. Give me a traditional device or task any day and I’ll do just fine, but anything more…advanced I guess than that, I need an Ironworks technician’s help…”
Chip grinned smugly, “At your service, ma’am.” He laughed when she rolled her eyes, looking back at the tomestone, “Still it's not like Cid to hand you a defective device. Not with all the stories he tells about you and Alphinaud from back in the day.”
“I don’t expect the special treatment though I guess it does help when we have a world-altering issue on the horizon…but with something like this, I don’t mind. I just want it to work.”
“I mean of course. Where linkpearls only have so far of a range, the tomestone covers greater distances.”
“Is that your selling line?”
“Maybe. One of them at least.”
“That doesn’t surprise me at all.”
The two miqo’te chuckle as finally the back came off of the tomestone. To Katsum, it looked like nothing more than wires and circuits with a chunk of a flat aetheric crystal hooked in at the bottom. To Chip though, by the look on his face, he saw something very different.
“What in the…” He shook his head and started to work on removing the piece of crystal, “Ok, I see what the problem is. Are you sure Cid did this ‘update’ on the crystal?”
Katsum shook her head, “No, I went to Cid’s workshop to GET the upgrade he said he’d made for it for me, but when I got there, I couldn’t get past ‘Mr. Sunglasses at Night’.”
Chip facepalmed, “Nero?”
“Yep. Took it from me and shoved that in there before I could say a word saying how it was going to work much better now and then ushered me out of the workshop before I had a chance to process it. I was going to go back in and talk to Cid, but I couldn’t find either of them after that.”
“Ok…next question, are you sure it was Cid that told you about the update?”
Katsum was quiet, thinking. Her eyes then widened slightly and then narrowed as her tail puffed up a little, “That little…No, I got a message on the tomestone from “Cid” so if you are saying what I think you are, it was Nero wasn’t it?”
“I’m afraid so. Whatever this is must have fried in all the aether waves when you crossed over to the First and back again. Gah, it looks like he made the most simple and easy-to-die aether crystal ever.”
Katsum hissed and nearly punched the table he was working on as she seethed, “Mmm…Ok, I’ll deal with that later. Is it something you think you can fix?”
“Oh yeah, simple fix. Just need to switch out this…whatever he put in here and put in the correct kind of crystal and it should…come right back up.” As if on cue, he gently snapped in the replacement crystal and it began to glow as the red and blue wires lit up. He popped the backing on again and flipped it over as Katsum moved to look over his shoulder at the now bright white loading screen. It took a few moments before the pixelated symbol of a meteor appeared and then faded out. Then suddenly the screen flickered out to the image of a tall stone ceiling and a small window appeared that showed Chip and Katsum’s faces looking down at the screen. Before they could speak, the ceiling shifted and a very familiar dark-haired elezen man’s face appeared, his blue eyes looking down at them confused before he smiled.
“Oh, hello, love. And Ser Chip, hello. ‘Tis good to see you again.” Aymeric replied happily, his voice echoing through the microphone of the tomestone.
“Oh hey, Lord Commander. We just got Katsum’s tomestone working again so it must have called you by accident. Sorry for the interruption,” Chip said smiling, definitely noticing how Katsum blushed slightly but smiled and waved at her fiancé.
“Oh not at all. Any ‘interruption’ from this mountain of requests and inquiries is hardly an interruption and more a welcomed escape. Plus, I am always happy to hear from my dear lady.” He smiled warmly at her and her blush darkened, her ears falling back against her head shyly, “I am glad to hear your tomestone is fixed now though. I know you were upset about it.”
She nodded, “Yeah me too…but anyway, I’ll call you later on once I finish here ok?”
He sighed but nodded knowingly, “If you must, then I shall return to my working, yes. Oh, but one more thing. Would you stop by here this evening and walk home with me? There is a new tea shop they’ve opened in the Firmament that Lucia has spoken greatly about and I thought we could stop by and give it a try tonight perhaps?”
Katsum smiled and nodded, “That sounds lovely, I’d love to.”
He smiled brightly, “Perfect. I will see you later then. Until then, be safe my love.”
She giggled softly, “Always try to be. Love you, see you later.”
“Love you too.”
She reached over as Aymeric did and ended the call, the screen fading into the normal main screen. She was rather excited now to try this new tea shop, a perfect evening date for the both of them.
“That was so cute,” Somehow she had forgotten that Chip was standing beside her and she saw the smug yet awed face as he looked at her happily, “You guys are so super cute together, you know that?”
She blushed, “Yes, I know! Stop grinning at me like that!” To which he laughed heartily.
“You’re welcome for fixing it.”
“Yes, thank you.”
“So you can call your boyfriend now whenever you need from so far away-”
“I’m warning you! Cut it out!”

Prompt #4 - A Waste of Good Tea
Tumblr media
(An extra credit day!)
Unpalatable - ‘not pleasant or enjoyable to eat or drink’
——————————
“My Lord? My Lady? May I enter?”
Katsum’s ears perked as she and Aymeric looked up from the papers and maps they were discussing to the door of the Seat of the Lord Commander.
“You may enter, yes.” Aymeric called out as he sat up straight. Katsum moved to stand up straight as well, laying a hand on her husband’s shoulder lovingly as she did. The door was pushed open slowly as a young elezen boy pushed against it carrying a tray with a teapot, two cups and a few refreshments. The boy had curly red hair and freckles that dotted all over his cheeks and nose. He was dressed in a squire’s tunic, pants and boots, and he wore a pleasant smile that made his eyes sparkle. The miqo’te smiled brightly when she saw him, recognizing him immediately from the many times she had visited the Firmament during its renovation. His name was Rousel. He was orphaned during the Dragonsong war but had recently been adopted by a young family living there after the loss of their home in the Brume. He had talked to her once about wanting to be a knight one day just as his parents before him had been, and so to see him here made her heart warm.
“Good afternoon, Lord Commander, and good afternoon Lady Katsum,” He said politely with his bright smile, “I’ve brought you your afternoon tea.”
“Ah thank you kindly,” Aymeric replied, reaching for the two cups after the boy set down the tray on the desk.
Katsum smiled at the boy as she reached for one of the Sohm Al tarts on the tray, “I hope you’ve been well, Rousel. I’m glad to see you are putting in the good work to become a trained knight like you told me.”
He nodded, standing proudly in front of the desk with his hands clasped behind his back, “Indeed I am, ma’am. It’s a lot of hard work to be sure, but I’m not afraid of that at all. Not if it helps me be just like my mum and dad were.”
She nodded, “They’d be so proud of you.”
The boy looked down at the floor for a moment with a sad smile and nodded, “Thank you, Miss Katsum.” He shook himself  as he cleared his throat to compose himself and stood straight again to speak, “Is there anything else I can do for you, my Lord?”
Aymeric hummed lightly as he swallowed the sip of tea he had just taken and shook his head, “Nothing at the moment, but I’ll be sure to call if there is.”
Rousel smiled and nodded, “Of course, sir. I shall take my leave then.”
“Yes, thank you, Rousel.”
The red-haired boy bowed before turning and leaving the office. Katsum moved to reach for the cup of tea Aymeric had poured for her but he moved his hand to stop her.
“You don’t want to do that,” He said painfully, suddenly looking very nauseous.
“What do you mean?” She asked, very confused.
“Having taken a sip myself, I have come to the conclusion that the lad cannot brew tea very well…” He replied, pouring his and her cup back into the teapot.
“You took a second sip though…Did you really do that to make him feel he did well?”
“Of course I did…though I’m quite sure I’m going to pay for that now…” He closed his eyes as he put a hand over his mouth, trying not to vomit, Katsum guessed. Curiously, she reached over and picked up the teapot and lifted the lid, holding it up to smell the steam coming off of it.
One could not at all describe the sorts of scents that assaulted her nose, but it was indeed horrid. She gagged slightly herself and stepped over to the window, opened it - making sure no one was standing down in the small alleyway below - and poured the horrid liquid out completely, “Have dreadful to waste tea…”
“I told you so.” He chuckled, glancing at the tarts, “How are the..?”
“Safe. Probably the regular baker’s wares, so they are as delicious as always.”
“Thank the Heavens,” He took a tart for himself and gave another to her as she stepped back to his side, she smiling her thanks, “He will make a fine knight, but I shall have to figure out a way to keep him from brewing any more tea without hurting his feelings.” He mused before taking a bite.
Katsum nodded with a giggle, “Don’t need to waste anymore birch syrup just to be poured out the window.”
“Oh…don’t remind me…” She laughed as they enjoyed their tarts and returned to their earlier discussion.

Prompt #16 - Too Much Teasing
Tumblr media
<Shadowbringers Spoilers up to Patch 5.58>
<Slight Mature References>
Crane - ‘to stretch out one’s neck’
—————————————————————
“Come on, Aymeric! Don’t be a tease!” Katsum’s tail lashed as she pouted up at the tall, raven-haired husband of hers as he grinned down at her. The Lord Commander had come to visit the Rising Stones this evening to collect his lovely wife and take her home. They had been talking about their days when Katsum had moved in close, batting her eyes as she’d stood up on her tiptoes and craned her neck waiting for him to lean down to her and kiss her. Aymeric, however, had decided to tease her.
He chuckled as he stood tall, “But twould be so easy to just lean down to kiss you. I’d like for you to kiss me this time.” In other words, he wanted to make her work for it because he was finding her pouting cute.
Never had she felt so humiliated and embarrassed, but she was finding it was only making her want to kiss him more and claim her prize. The strange effects her beloved husband and the love had on her she was sure.
With a huff, Katsum glanced about them, looking for that chair she’d been sitting in not long ago, and took hold of his long shirt sleeve to pull him with her as she stalked towards it. She held fast to him to make sure he did not move away as she stepped up onto the seat of the chair and turned towards him as now she was the one looking down at him. She took a breath to rid herself of her pouting face before laying on the charm and closing him in close to her with the strength she felled beats and monsters with; she would make sure he wouldn’t get away from her. Aymeric was still grinning from ear to ear, moving into her easily as he wrapped his arms around her waist, just barely moving his handsome face and supple lips closer to hers. Yet still, he did not move in to claim them.
“You are so adorable when you pout like this, and your determination to get what you want is just as alluring, my lovely Kat,” He mused, rubbing her side gently until her ears twitched down in annoyance, which only made him laugh.
Katsum narrowed her eyes but she smiled sweetly and snaked her arms around his neck, her tail curling around to hook onto his thigh, and she purred, “You are quite determined to make me take it from you, hm?”
“Oh, yes I am,” He purred back.
With a soft growl, Katsum leaned down and closed the gap between them, claiming his lips for her own as she locked him into place with her arms, pressing herself against him. He hummed through their kiss as she returned its fervor, and Katsum began to relax slightly at the love that poured through it, tilting her head to deepen in the kiss.
And then she felt Aymeric’s arms move from her waist to her hips.
Suddenly, Aymeric stepped backward, pulling her with him and off of the chair. Her body panicked and her legs moved to latch onto his waist as he caught her and prompted them too. She gasped into the kiss, realizing his plan now, and tried to pull away from him to speak before he dove deeper into his mouth with his tongue. The miqo’te growled slightly as she could practically feel Aymeric’s amusement radiating off of him as she fought with him. To be baited into taking charge and then having it swept out from under her…she couldn’t say it didn’t excite her, but it certainly annoyed her as well. After a few minutes, they both pulled away to come up for air, breathing deeply as they pressed their foreheads together.
Nearly breathless, Katsum hissed playfully, though it came out more like a breathy moan, “Aymeric, that was—”
“AHEM.”
Startled by the sound of someone clearing their throat, the two lovers looked over at the door of the Dawn’s Respite to see three people standing there that they had not even noticed step in; Alphinaud, G’raha, and Estinien. Aymeric let her go as slowly helped her land on her feet as she smoothed out her dress quickly and he fixed his tunic and coat. Alphinaud was as red as fire, his hands covering his face, yet his bright red ears fully displayed his blush. G’raha had much the same kind of blush, though his face was clear to see as a small frown and somber expression covered it, his ears dropped with it. Estinien was the only one pretty much unfazed, a roll to his eyes with a slight smirk on his face as he looked at them.
“By the Fury, Aymeric, couldn’t wait to get her home to have a taste?” Everyone froze at this remark, yet Estinien just shrugged and grinned at his old friend, “To think your resolve was so easily broken after all those years you kept your distance from the women of Ishgard. Though it is your wife, I suppose, and the Warrior of Light as well. ‘Tis little wonder you found her patience for her wane.”
“ALRIGHT, I’LL BE GOING NOW. I’M SORRY FOR BARGING IN!!” The young elezen could stand it no longer and turned and ran out the door at this, throwing his apology over his shoulder.
G’raha Tia’s tail twitched nervously then too as his face darkened and he muttered while wringing his hands, “Yes, um…a-apologies. E-Excuse me…”
The red-furred miqo’te pushed past Estinien then and out the door as well, and the dragoon watched him go, “And look, you’ve broken the boy's heart. How cruel, Katsum. He’ll be sulking for weeks.
Katsum’s tail started to lash as she glared at the Azure Dragoon. She reached out and held onto Aymeric’s arm—which he quickly moved to hold her as he thought she was losing her balance, the sweet thing—as she reached down to her foot.
Estinien sighed and grinned as he turned back, “Honestly, you both should be more careful giving into your yearnings so haphazardly. You’ve no idea what havoc your affections for one another maybe bring to others—”
And that was the moment Katsum’s thrown boot slapped him right in the face and quickly shut him up.

Prompt #9 - Cookie Monster
Tumblr media
Friable - ‘easily crumbled’
————————————————————
Finally. It had taken her hours to get the recipe just right and to mix all of the flavors correctly, but now Katsum finally had a fresh batch of sweet cinnamon apple cookies. It had been so long since she’d tasted one of them, let alone made them. Not since the days of her youth when she and her mother snuck into the kitchen to make them between meals to not be in the way of the cooks. The miqo’te smiled at the memories of their laughter as she went about setting them out on a nice platter and starting on brewing a fresh pot of tea.
She and Aymeric had been talking about their younger days the night before, of the things they remember, good memories and bad ones. When they spoke of some of their favorite treats as children, she spoke of these ‘Dragon Snaps’ as she had always called them as a child mainly because they shaped the dough into dragons before baking them. Aymeric had been very intrigued by her description and asked if they could make some to try, and so she’d taken it upon herself to surprise him with a treat when it came home from the Congregation.
Her ears perked as she suddenly heard the front door open and a velvety voice call out, “I’m home, my Katsum! By the Fury, what is that wonderful scent?”
“Just a moment, stay right there!” She turned with the hot kettle to set it on its stand on the table and spied the little dragon form of Midgardsormr reaching out for one of the cookies, “Hey! No touching!”
The grandfather of dragons turned to look at her with a pout, “Mine intention was to eat it, not just to touch it.”
“I'm aware of that, but those aren’t for you. I’ll let you have one after I bring Aymeric in. I baked them for him first,”
The dragon groaned, “Must I wait?”
Katsum stared down at him, “You may be thousands of years old, but yes, you can stand to wait but a few minutes. I won’t be long as they get rather crumbly when they get cold so just wait, please.”
Midgardsormr growled and plopped down on the table with a scowl, staring at the cookies as Katsum rolled her eyes and stepped out into the foyer. Briefly wiping her hands on her Ishgardian style gown, she smiled warmly as she turned the corner to meet with the sight of her tall raven-haired noble husband pulling on his housecoat as he smiled down at her. She closed the gap between them and stood on her tiptoes as he leaned down to her to kiss his lips sweetly, “Welcome home, Aymeric~”
He hummed and kissed her again, “Tis good to be home. Now, what is that lovely sweet smell? What have you been up to?”
She grinned, “Do you remember what we spoke of last night?”
He thought for a moment until realization hit him, “Of the tarts right? From your childhood? What was it you called them?”
“Dragon Snaps.”
“Yes! Dragon Snaps! You made some?”
“I did! Took me a while to remember the recipe but after some trial and error, I’ve got it written down and a fresh batch waiting for you in the kitchen with a fresh pot of tea,” She stepped back a little, taking his hand to encourage him to follow her, “Care to join me?”
“Absolutely! Of course!” He followed her into the kitchen, laughing as she tugged him along.
“It’s been so long since I had one myself, I’m so excited to—” Katsum froze in her steps as her mouth fell open at the sight of the little Dravanian sitting in the now-empty platter with a rather round belly, little crumbs covering his scales as he stuffed the last piece in his claws into his mouth, “Midgardsormr!!”
The little dragon looked over rather bored, though she could see the slightest hint of shame in his gaze, but it was very small, “I was…unable to stop myself…after the first…”
Katsum closed her eyes and covered her face with her hands, rubbing her forehead to try and keep herself from exploding, “It took me…hours to make those…”
She felt Aymeric’s hand on her shoulder and she looked up to try and apologize without tearing up at her ruined surprise, but the smile in his eyes and on his lips stopped her, “It’s quite alright, why don’t we make another batch together?”
She blinked in surprise before she sighed, “I used all the ingredients in my attempts though.”
“Do you have a list?”
“I do.”
“Alright, the markets are still open for a few more hours, so let's get a list together and I shall go and fetch them for us to make some more.”
Katsum thought for a moment before nodding, “Alright. It would be fun to spend some time with you in the kitchen too, but,” She glared at Midgardsormr, “You will be getting the ingredients. Fresh ones.”
“What makes thou believe I shall do as such, child?” He challenged as she rolled back onto his feet and struggled to get into the air again with his cookie-filled belly.
The woman’s tail swung around her dress skirt angrily as her ears flattened and Katsum stepped close to him and challenged him in return, “Because if you don’t, I won't make you any cookies at all again. Ever.”
That stunned the dragon into silence as they both glared at one another for a minute or two. The Lord Commander looked between the two of them silently until Midgardsormr sighed and nodded.
“Very well. I shall do as you ask.”
Katsum nodded and walked over to the counter and picked up her recipe she wrote down and took a scrap and wrote down the herbs, spices, and the specific types of apples she needed.
“I’ll work on getting the bowls ready to work with,” Aymeric said as he rolled up his sleeves with a smile and went about cleaning up the bowls she’d used before, “And it will be great fun baking these with you I think. And make them taste even more wonderful with the memory to go along with it.”
Katsum blushed at his words as she was caught off guard by them, shaking her head with a shy smile, “I probably should have waited to do it this way in the first place but I need to figure out the recipe. But thank you, Aymeric. I’m excited to bake them with you as well.”
He chuckled and nodded as she turned to Midgardsormr to hand him the list, “These can all be found in Dravania or the Mists as it's an old recipe from the colonies. They shouldn’t be hard to find.”
He took the piece of paper in his claws as he hovered in the air and looked it over, “Nay, not at all. I know where to find them all.” He bashfully huffed then, “And I am sorry I ate all of the cookies. They were…divine though.”
Katsum took a deep breath and shook her head, “It’s fine. We’ll call it even once you return with the herbs and apples.”
He shrugged as she turned to step back to the counter when he heard her whisper, “You are welcome also for getting you a baking date.”
The miqo’te hissed over her shoulder, “Don’t push it.”
The great Midgardsormr only chuckled deeply as his body was enveloped in a bright light and he disappeared, setting out on his gathering journey.

Prompt #25 - Hide Not Your Happiness
Tumblr media
<Post Stormblood Patch 4.0 MSQ>
Silver Lining - ‘a sign of hope in an unfortunate or gloomy situation; a bright prospect’
————————————————————
The ring on her finger felt so heavy suddenly, and she twisted it back and forth as she paced the small area in the gardens of House Fortemps. Her feline ears could still pick up the sounds of the music coming from the open windows of the ballroom and the voices of the guests happily chatting and laughing within. She made sure she could not be seen from those bright windows for her absence would surely raise suspicion. It was her celebration after all, a party celebrating the Warrior of Light’s return to Ishgard after the victory in Ala Mhigo, and yet here she was, fretting and worrying to herself in the garden. Of course she had ample reason to worry. Tonight was the night they would tell them all.
It was the night she and Aymeric decided it was time to tell the world of their relationship as well as their engagement to be married.
They had kept it secret all this time to not raise unnecessary suspicion from anyone that she had ‘swayed the lord commander’s decisions with her wiles’ or any such thing as they had come together in the midst of the Dragonsong War, and once it was over, Ishgard needed to focus on its own healing, not the gossip about the First Seat of the House of Lords’s love life. No, she already had to put those still holding on to the past in their places when they spoke ill of him. She would not be another reason for them to do so.
And so they hid their relationship, hiding dinners and late night dates behind the gauze of diplomatic discussions and waiting until the dead of night to meet one another. It had been hard to hide their feelings at times, and so they settled on others knowing about their deep feelings for one another, yet never the truth that they were together. Not until now.
It had been the first thing he had said when Aymeric had knelt down in front of her, the setting sunlight sparkling in his eyes and crowning his head as she had looked into the warmth of his loving smile and said as he’d held her hand, “I want the world to know of us. I want our love to be on full display for all to see. For too long I have hidden it, and I want to show everyone just how proud of our love I am. How proud I am that you call me yours, and I call you mine.”
She would never forget those words, how she prayed to the Savoir that she never ever would forget the beauty of his speech and the love in his eyes that day. Yet even while this happiness bubbled in her heart, her hands trembled as her nerves still ruled over her body. Her ears fell flat on her head as she stared down at the silver ring and how it glistened in the moonlight, spinning it slightly as the dark sapphire stone that was set in it sparkled with the gold filigree that accented it. She sighed deeply and turned on her heel to pace the other direction again, the fallen snow on the ground sweeping into the air with the movement of the long skirt of her Ishgardian gown. Aymeric was probably looking for her, worrying where she might have gone. Her absence was sure to be noticed too by others, and she knew she would need to return to the party soon.
“Katsum? Is that you?”
But not just yet.
The blonde knightess’s tail fluffed slightly in surprise as she looked up and stopped in her tracks, quickly hiding her ringed hand under the other as she did her best to smile at the aged Count of the house, “Lord Edmont.”
Edmont was standing on the last step of the small set of stairs that descended into the little garden they stood in, looking at her curiously as he held his cane close to him. His thick furred coat had a few of the fallen snowflakes on it, meaning he had been standing there for at least a few minutes, and Katsum’s heart trembled as she wondered how long he had been watching her pace. Yet he merely smiled at her, regarding her with a gentle nod of his head, “Needed a moment away from the noise, yes? It can be rather overwhelming at times.”
Katsum quickly nodded in response, happy for the excuse he provided her, “Yes. I have quite a lot on my mind so I…needed a moment away to think.”
Edmont nodded, “You are a busy woman, a very sought after one as well. Though Ser Aymeric spoke of having news to share tonight which has me rather curious.”
He didn’t…did he
“Oh?”
“Yes, he mentioned it was some wonderful news, though it leaves me to wonder what better news can we get over the liberation of Ala Mhigo.” He chuckled, stepping down off the last step and standing before her now.
She did her best to smile and laugh with him, “That is true yes. I suppose we can only wonder. He did not mention anything to me as of late.” She hated lying, but the painful throb of fear in her chest gave her few options.
He seemed to think about that for a moment before he spoke again, “Actually, I am glad that you are here. I had come to do some thinking myself, but I would like the company of another for a moment or two if you wouldn’t mind?”
The knightess blinked as her insides shiver in worry, but she controlled herself and gave him a warm smile and a nod, “I’d be glad to.”
He nodded and led her to the stone bench that was settled in the middle of the garden, facing a small statuette of Halone surrounded by a snow-covered bush of red flowers. Katsum settled herself beside him on the bench after sweeping off the fallen snow, glancing over at him out of the corner of her eye.
Edmont stood his cane in front of him and settled both hands upon it as he gazed up at the moon, “A beautiful and peaceful night, yes? It reminds me of the first night and yours came to Ishgard. An uncommonly calm night that was, but I'm sure you know that by now.”
Katsum nodded, “I remember that night well.”
“It was that same night that I chanced to hear someone singing in the silence, and when I had opened the window, I found it was coming from one of the rooms upstairs, and the window to your room was open too,” Katsum froze in shock, yet Edmont seemed not to notice and smiled as he continued, “And while I listened, I noticed another figure walking along the late night streets and he too heard the singing and stopped to listen, enamored by its loving tune as I was. I was not sure at first who the man was, but when the moonlight caught his scaled regalia and the royal blue of his coat, it was hard not to see Ser Aymeric.”
Katsum was horrified. She had thought no one had seen or heard her that night, and now she knew that not only had Count Edmont heard her, but Aymeric had as well?
She locked gazes with the smiling count, and he laughed at the shock he saw there, “It’s alright, dear. I’m sorry to have spied on you, yet I noticed something else that night that neither of you did for quite a while I think.”
She blushed lightly with embarrassment as she looked down at her clasped hands, still hiding her ring finger and the glittering ring that encircled it, “And what would that be?”
“That you both of you had fallen for one another before you even knew what love was.”
Her ears stood straight up as her jaw fell, “My lord, that’s—!”
“May I see it?”
“..See what?”
“The ring, dear girl, the one you are hiding from me.”
Katsum’s sapphire eyes flew back to him before she looked down at where he held out his hand to her, gesturing for her own. With shaking fingers, she let go of her own hand and placed it gently in his, watching his gloved fingers clasp hers gently as he turned her hand and watched the ring gleam and shimmer in the night air.
Edmont smiled warmly, and breathed a deep and happy sigh, “How beautiful. And how happy I am for you both.”
“But…how did you…?”
“I was a boy once myself, Katsum. A boy who walked a similar path to Lord Aymeric’s. I know those longing looks and stolen glances. They were my own many not so long ago when I was young,” He let her hand go as she returned it to her lap and he leaned back on the bench, “I cannot say that all noticed, but I did. I could not help but notice.”
“I see…” She mumbled softly.
“So then I ask as I am rather worried. Why does it weigh on you so now? Are you not happy about being engaged to him?”
“Of course I am!” Her voice was a bit louder than she expected and spooked her slightly as she softly apologized and lowered her words so only he might hear her, just in case, “I am so joyous it is hard to contain at times. I’m marrying the man I love more than anyone after all, but…I worry. I worry what Ishgard might have to say of such things.” Edmont did not answer right away, looking to be in thought of this as she continued, finally just letting go of it all and laying it all bare, “Aymeric has been the subject of gossip all his life…and I fear that some would question him more if the woman who helped save Ishgard were to become his wife. Would they think I swayed his decisions with my…body…or something, or would they say I was stringing him along for a high seat of power in the nation? Would they call him a heretic for marrying a woman not of the same faith, and a miqo’te as well? I just…”
“Katsum,” Her voice died as he laid a hand on hers, “Stop.” She quieted, her sadness and worry showing itself in her face and eyes as she looked up at him. He sighed heavily before responding, “My people are a stubborn sort. Or should I say ours, yes? Your mother is of Ishgardian descent, or at least from the colonies. Not that it truly matters. You are right, some will question things, yet the same people will question if the people of the Brume should be allowed to speak about the issues of their own nation. The answer is undeniable yes, yet they will still question it. The point I mean to make by that is why let the words of these people stop you from being happy, hmm?”
Her ears fell as the truth she had been trying to tell herself finally rang through to her heart, happy to hear him continue as his voice chase away the seeds of doubt and worry, “You have done so much for this nation, putting your own life in the line to fight when so many of the noble folk have never stepped foot on the battlefield. Who could, in their right mind, question your marriage as being anything other than love truly? The only proof they could ever find is the amount of caring love you both hold for one another, always running to the other’s aid whenever it is needed. Yes, people will gossip in their jealousy, but Katsum, I say let them. You deserve this,” He laughed with the next words he spoke, “And by the Fury, I will see to it that one of my sons is happily married before I leave this world, I swear it.”
Katsum couldn’t stop the giggle that left her and it warmed her heart to see him smile so brightly in response. She looked down at the ring again, smiling at the blue gem as she breathed out the last of her anxieties, “You are too kind, my lord, truly…but thank you. Your words have helped me see the happiness again.”
“Good. Then show it here,” He pointed to her face as he tapped his cane on the stone path beneath their feet, “Show the world happy you are that your finger is lined with silver and gold, and the promise of forever.”
The blonde warrior nodded, “I shall.”
“Katsum? Lord Edmont? Are you out here?” The familiar ring of Aymeric’s deep voice called out over the hedges to them and the count moved to stand, holding out a hand to her to help her stand as well.
“Ah yes, it is quite time to return to the festivities, and high time you returned to your husband-to-be’s side, yes daughter?”
Katsum shook her head slightly with a laugh as she took his hand and rose to her feet, “Yes, I do believe so. We have joyous news to share after all, yes?”
He nodded, walking beside her up the path to the manor, making their way to where the Lord Commander stood waiting for them, “I thank you for your time and for listening to an old count’s ramblings as well, my lady.”
“Lord Edmont?”
“Yes, Lady Katsum?”
“Thank you. Thank you for easing my worries.”
“It was my pleasure, child.”
((Thank you, Stephen Critchlow, for the life you breathed into this character. The count shall always hold a special place in my and Katum’s heart, so thank you for the character your words and voice gave him.))

Prompt #22 - His Scent
Tumblr media
<Mature Themes Ahead, Spicy, but not too spicy>
Fluster - ‘nervous excitement’ ———————————————————— Katsum pressed her nose into the cap of the bottle in her hand, breathing in the smell of the faint smell of the cologne that still lingered there, her ears falling back with her sigh as her tail curled around her legs and over the sheets that coiled around her like a nest, “Oh, Aymeric, please come home soon.”
She still was not used to how these…“heats” made her feel, burning her from the inside out and flustering her as everywhere she moved in this house she could not escape Aymeric’s scent and it was driving her insane with need for him. She had always loved the way he smelled, her feline-like senses always picking up the subtle traces of his tea with birch syrup as well as parchment paper and thick furs, and those senses were only heightened by her weak moments of wanting as they were now. His sweet cologne was no exception as it was one she had picked out for him that first Starlight they shared. The thick, alluring musk of forest trees and mountain air that would on a normal day draw her in to relax made her wild and want nothing more than to bathe in its scent while being wrapped in the warmth of his body. Yet for the moment, that was not an option. Not until he came home.
So instead, here she lay in their bed, undressed down to a wine-red, laced bra with a sheer, baby-doll style cover top and a pair of panties of the same color pressing the cologne close to her face as she nuzzled it. So hot and bothered had she been that she couldn’t stand to wear anything else, hoping the cold of the Ishgardian mountain tops would cool her down, but to no avail. Aymeric’s scent had her captive, and none save the man himself could save her.
Katsum could only hope that she would hear him come in soon as she feared she might lose herself if it was too much longer. She could already feel the warmth of her flushed cheeks growing hotter until she finally discarded the cologne bottle on his nightstand and pulled his pillow into her arms to cuddle against, trying to soothe the ache for any kind of physical contact she could find. It had seemed to help calm her enough to relax and she settled slightly with a gentle purr and curled her tail around as she just nearly found a way to drift off into sleep.
“Katsum? Are you here?” That is until the deep voice of her beloved husband rang in her ears and suddenly she was wide awake.
“Aymeric~,” She gasped, looking towards the door, “I’m here, my love. I'm here!” She would. have tried harder to hide the tremble in her voice, but it was clear that no amount of changing her tone could ever hide the overwhelmed emotions she felt right now.
The dark wood door finally opened as her raven-haired shining knight stepped into the room, a concerned expression on his tired face until he truly took in the sight of her and he gulped. Yet ever the gentlemen until he was given her permission, he merely hastily closed the bedroom door behind him and slowly moved towards the bed, “Are you alright, Kat? You look…very flushed.”
Katsum’s ears perked and she moaned at the sweet sound of his voice, releasing his pillow as she stretched languidly on the covers and drawing his eyes to roam across her skin, “I am now…now that you are here. Oh, how I’ve waited for you to come home~.”
Aymeric cleared his throat as he swallowed thickly and moved to the edge of the bed, trying to keep his eyes from wandering too much and reached out to rest the back of his hand on her forehead, “I have missed you very much as well, my sweet, but are you sure you are not ill?” Yet his question was answered on its own when he indeed felt her forehead burn, but also watched Katsum’s reaction as she purred loudly and pressed against his hand, reaching up to seize his wrist to hold him there. Katsum looked up at him with half-lidded eyes and she watched his eyes both light up with realization and then darken, “Ahh I see. Is it that time again?”
Katsum nodded, moving to sit up on her knees and grab ahold of his coat collar as she pulled him down into a searing kiss. She felt Aymeric sigh into the kiss as he let himself go and leaned on one arm that he placed on the bed beside her while the other wrapped itself under the sheer cover to lay against her heated skin and hold her close, tracing her spine with his fingertips so that she arched into him. She purred into his mouth, her tail encircling his wrist on the bed. Her fingers traveled from the furs of his coat to cup his face and turned her head slightly to deepen their kiss, drawing a soft moan from Aymeric’s mouth. She slowly began to lower them down towards the bed shifting slightly so that she would fall back perfectly in place under him. She’d been waiting all day for him and she was getting tired of waiting, yet before she could succeed in laying them both down though, Aymeric pulled away. He chuckled at her as she tried to chase his lips.
“My, so very eager,” He said, grinning as his playfulness began to show, “I haven’t had a moment to undress yet. You must give me time to.”
Katsum growled softly when he unwound his arm from her back and she dropped to the bed, her tail thumping against the bed with frustration as she lifted herself on her elbows, “I’ll undress you, Aymeric, so please just—”
He answered her by quickly leaning down over her and pressing his lips against her neck, rendering her speechless as any further retort died on her lips. She sighed thankfully as his scent filled her nose again and the feeling of his kisses on her neck soothed her want for physical contact, at least the first strands of it. She tangled her fingers in his hair as she pressed her nose into his neck, pressing small kisses of her own on his skin just under his ear. She felt his voice rumble in his throat as he hummed in response. He broke his kiss to press his nose into her hair and take in her smell before he pulled away slightly to smile down at her.
“But a few moments is all I ask for, my love. It is clear you have been waiting for me all day and so I would not make you fight with buttons and clasps tonight. And I do not wish to have another shirt ripped, hmm?” She looked away at that with an embarrassed expression which only made him smile more as he began pulling off his coat, “I will take care of you, this I promised the day we married and I promise again today. I will not make you wait long.”
“You had better not,” She growled playfully, batting her eyes as she sighed longingly watching his muscles move under his shirt, waiting anxiously for them to be laid bare for her, “I cannot say for how much longer I can restrain myself.”
Aymeric paused to lean in and press his nose against hers, “Neither can I. Not when you are dressed so ravishingly.”
“Aymeric! Please!” She pouted.
“Haha! As you wish, my queen~.”

Prompt #29 - Ser Charming
Tumblr media
Debonair - ‘confident, stylish, and charming’
————————————————————
“Ah, my dear friend, how good to see you!” Aymeric de Borel smiled from his place behind his desk, standing politely as he continued, “Please, do make yourself at home. Would you like a bit of tea?”
He reached over for the spare teacup and saucer, setting it across from him as he lifted the tea kettle and poured into the empty cup, the sweet scent of the birch syrup filling the room as the steam swirled off of it. He set the kettle back down and gave a most handsome smile.
“There we are,” He sat back down yat leaned on his arms in a most fascinated manner, “Now I’m sure there is business to attend to as there always seems to be, but I would first love to hear of your recent adventures if you would be willing to regale me of them. It has been just these same walls for me these past days in your absence and I have thought of you much and wondered how your journey has gone.”
He turned his head slightly and smiled with a smoldering look as he rested his head on his hands, “So please, my dear friend, won’t you stay awhile and tell me about all that you have seen?”
Katsum stood frozen in front of his desk, the fur of her ears and tail standing on end and a ruby blush burning on her cheeks and around her wide, sapphire eyes. Her fingers were tangled shyly in the skirt of her ishgardian dress which she fiddled with as she huffed and answered with embarrassment, “Aymeric! We’re already courting! Must you lay on the charm so much still?”
“Do you mean to say that you would like me to stop?”
“….Nooo…”
